this scan from volume 2 (game chapter 1-2) it seems that the JoeSara relationship parallel to SouShin is canon. Maybe it's a darker friendship. Shin parallel to Sara, Joe to Midori, well I can say Midori is a dark Joe.

Joe tells Shin from his point of view of his friendship with Sara what he thinks of her.

In the first volume Sara told Shin something about her friendship with Joe, but not in detail, because she doesn't know his past and is a closed person.

Joe describes Sara as a lonely person while he is a friendly person, he can never be alone.

There are two opposites that attract.

What interests me in these scans are Joe's words.

"Sara wasn't big on making friends"

"I, on the other hand, couldn't stand being alone

I filled every moment I could with people and conversation"

"But it was like Sara could see right through me when she looked me. Right away, she was able to notice the loneliness deep inside me. That's why I knew I wanted to talk to her more."

"When I finally got this smile out of her it felt like the first time anyone had ever understood me like that and I understood her too."

hmm they met in high school, Joe starts talking to her, since that day they have become best friends and Joe keeps a picture of Sara's smile. I have to say it's pretty obvious how this parallel to Midori.

we don't know all of Joe's past nor of Midori so I guess in 3-2 we will know everything from Midori's point of view including his past and everything about Joe.

Anyway I'm a little suspicious from his ID card.

This is something I haven’t seen discussed much despite having a lot of potential— what’s your opinion on the surviving dummy (Kurumada, Mai, Hayasaka) at the end of the banquet?

It’s easy to miss it, I’d assume in no small part to to the fact it’s not an active choice but based entirely on which coffins you randomly select.

I’m just surprised I haven’t seen a single theory mention this at all. What do you think?

(Danganronpa and Squid Game spoilers) 

I think one of the most special things about YTTD is how no one’s death is in vain.

In other death game media such as Danganronpa and even Squid Games, the deaths of the others aren’t really lingered upon. 

In Danganronpa you might get a reference here and there, but the still living characters will usually stay pretty consistent to how they were before the deaths occurred. And in most cases, once a character is killed off and the chapter ends, they’re no longer relevant to the story. 

More Undercut

Squid Games, while far better written, still doesn’t linger on the impact the deaths have until the very end when we see what the surviving character is up to post death game. 

While this interesting to see, Squid Games never really lingers on the deaths that much. And even when three major characters die during the Marble Game, what they left behind and their impact isn’t the main focus. Instead, the plot stays on how the living cast interacts with each other, and how their ideologies clash when their lives and financial stability are on the line. (Side note: If you haven’t watched Squid Games and have a Netflix account please do because it’s so good.) 

But in YTTD, every single time a character dies it heavily impacts the story. 

When the dolls die, they come back in 3B with the fear of death engraved in them. And that can bring Ranmaru to kill Alice/Reko. When Megumi dies, it helps the already present darkness in Keiji grow. When Kugie dies, it impacts Kanna’s entire behavior during the death game. Same for Nao when Mishima dies. 

When Kai dies, the group is left needing to find the answers he left behind and determine if he’s a good or bad man. When Alice dies, Reko has to face that she wasn’t the best sister because of her selfish behavior, and grows to be a protective member of the group. When Reko dies, Alice is forced to figure out who he is when he doesn’t live for his sister.

When Joe dies, Sara is left distraught and has hallucination's of him until they break or free her. When Nao dies, it shows how terrible the floormasters truly are and helps plant that fear of death in Sara even more. When Kanna dies, Shin is forever changed and vows revenge on the people he once wanted to trust deep down. 

When Shin dies, Kanna stops wanting to die because she understands that she is truly loved by both her siblings and the group. We haven’t seen the impact of Q-Taro’s death yet, but given his bond with Keiji and Gin it no doubt will have ramifications. 

The deaths in YTTD are never in vain. They have long lasting implications that drive the plot forward and help the characters grow as people. The cast we met in 1-1 aren’t the same people in 3B, and that’s because of how they’ve grown with each sacrifice.

It was weird realizing the fact that you're just a bunch of wires and codes.

That you're not made of flesh, blood, and bone.

That instead of a brain, you have hardware

That your own thoughts are just 1s and 0s

And that you had just pulled your arm off.

Ranmaru felt like every single bit of hope he ever had, every lingering doubt, any shred of possibility- had been ripped out of him.

"Huh..?" His mouth felt dryer than sandpaper

"M-my hand..." there wasn't any pain

"My hand....!!!!!" But the panic that seized him all but made up for that

A scream spilled out of mouth- an instinctive type of fear, except this wasn't instincts, it was programing.

"C-cotton candy...! Calm down, meow!" The young boy's words were drowned out by the immense panic, and the painful realization-

"I-I...I'm really..."

"A doll...huh..."

Once he said that, it felt like that claws tearing apart his (fake) heart had sunk down into his stomach, creating deep pits inside him.

"I-I mean" it felt like everyone was starring at him- not just felt- everyone is starring at him.

"Sure... I did know that...but still...some part of me just..."

"Thought 'maybe' " how dreadful his own programming was, giving himself false hope and ripping it away at the same time.

How desperately he wanted to rip apart his own wiring. every single peice of metal inside of him, ranmaru wanted it out.

Tear apart everything inside him, just so he dosent have to be anything anymore- just so he could be dead, like the real thing.

"Hmph...how worthless" a gruff voice rang out clear in the silence

"...eh...?"

"Dolls...shouldn't cry over such triffels" he was right, dolls shouldn't even feel at all. But Alice continued,

"To have hope even when you think to yourself that you've given up...that's human"

Every circuit and wire inside ranmaru begged to disagree

"Having contradictory emotions...it pains us. Couldn't you say you're awfully human right now?"

Even if ranmaru was man-made, a part of him still had that heart.

That emotion that the kidnappers couldn't control yet intended for, the emotion that break the borders between ai and human.

A desire to live another day, and constantly hoping for that day to come.

Ranmaru still couldn't wrap his head around such a thing, that maybe he was human in a sense.

"So don't let such foolish things sadden you...for you are alive...! Ranmaru kageyama!"

"...!!" Yeah, maybe he was alive in a sense, just maybe though.

"Stand up already. We haven't the time" ranmaru didn't even realize his knees gave out from the shock.

"Can you stand ranmaru" Anzu tried holding out a hand to him.

"I'm okay"

His whole body still trembled, but he gathered some strength to bring himself back to his feet.

"Some man you are, blubbering on the floor" kurumada scoffed, his eyes barely masking his own anxiety.

"Huh? I wasn't cryin'..." yup, definitely not. ranmaru-never cried a day in his life- kageyama.

"Haha that's a bit of a bold claim..." hayasaka rubbed the back of his neck.

Human...was that truly something he was, or even close too? He was a doll, a toy, a tool for the kidnappers. But still, having these emotions right now...felt awfully human.

Alice's words stayed in his mind for a while, and he made a mental note to thank him later. Well, if that later ever comes.

I made this crazy theory and I have no idea why 💀

CRACK-THEORY; Jiafei and Megumi Sasahara are siblings.

this will have SPOILERS for YTTD chapter 3b omfg. . . . . . . . Ngl I bet they would be related in some way, like both are Asian(Based on the idols/celebrity used to create Jiafei[Meng Jia and Wang Feifei]) Jiafei would most likely be Chinese while Megumi is Japanese, both have similar hairstyle/same hairstyle(both have dark brown hair and have no bangs/fringe, only difference is that Megumi's hairstyle has some strand of hair tucked on her ear and Jiafei's hair covers both her ears while Megumi's only covers one.), they also have a similar skin tone(I'm not counting Megumi's sprites, it's the CG of her where her skin isn't paper white.). The only difference in their appearance is just the eye color since Megumi's eyes are reddish brown while Jiafei's are dark brown.. . Also judging by some certain lore about the Jiafei kidnapping thing, Megumi and Jiafei had at least done something questionable as Jiafei is somewhat a mass kidnapper as she kidnaps those who does not buy her products and Megumi had at least done some backroom deal and also covered up the death of Mr. Policeman.

they also seem to be in high position in their jobs as Jiafei is some CEO of making "sexy products" and Megumi is in the position of a captain at her job as a police inspector. . They also most likely might be close to their age as Megumi is most likely in her late-twenties/early-thirties(Megumi and Keiji met when he was in his twenties and Megumi is most likely older than him before, since Keiji is in his late twenties by now, Megumi is most likely in her late twenties or early thirties.) while Jiafei is in her early thirties(In the Floptok wiki it lists Jiafei's birthday as "March 11, 1991" so Jiafei is 32 by now.). They also seem to have some basic info that isn't known about them such as height, though Megumi might be somewhere like 174cm to 178cm based on that one pixel CG with the dolls as she seems to be quite tall compared to the other female characters in YTTD whose heights are usually kind of short and the one closest to 170cm is Reko. Jiafei's height seems to be unknown but since some people usually view her to be the sister of Xjiemomo, who is usually viewed to be really tall(Floptok Wiki lists her as "8'11ft/271cm tall"), so there might be a chance Jiafei is either taller than average height or tall(above 175cm), there might be a chance they're at similar height.

this was made for some AU because I looked at my old Jiafei drawings and they look similar to Megumi and I tried tweaking the eye color to match Megumi's and it looks so similar and I started to make a HC that they're siblings💀💀💀
