some angsty gin art i did!!!
song lyrics are from This Night Has Opened My Eyes by The Smiths bc that specific lyric fits his lost memory scene a little.... TOO much./j
the blue glove past gin is wearing is a weighted glove, relating to a few headcanons i have about his backstory, meant to restrict him from stimming. i might make a more formal post about that soon, and also some writing relating to it 👀

Potential (and underutilized) dynamics between the Dummies and the participants in 3-1 (part 1, I may do more of these in the future)
(SPOILERS UP TO 3-1B)
The Dummies are pretty much the most underutilized part of YTTD, at least in my opinion. During the actual game, we only ever got to see their dynamics with each other, Sara or with their partners (in some cases they never really even interacted with their partner like with Anzu) Which is really sad because there are a lot of great dynamics I could see forming between certain Dummies and participants.
Kurumada and Q-Taro: We get to see a bit of their dynamic in the game, what with their banter about Q-Taro being an old-timer and stuff like that. Kurumada's scene in the Emotion Route where he tells Kanna and Q-Taro about the difference between "winning" and "not losing" is also really interesting to me, considering Q-Taro brings it up later and Kurumada's backstory. If they were paired up, I do think Kurumada would try to kill Q-Taro given his whole philosophy about first-rates and second-rates and it'd be really interesting to see how Q-Taro would handle it/forgive him like he did with Mai in the actual game.
Shin and (Fake) Hinako: These two definitely share a lot of parallels with each other, what with them having the lowest percentage rates and them both being impersonating little identity-stealers. Beyond that, I think Shin and Hinako would be a very interesting pair thematically because whereas Shin is a very emotionally-driven character, Fake Hinako is a much more logically/self-preservationally-driven one. But the interesting part is how they both come to the same conclusion: distrust. Seeing as how Hinako was paired up with Sara's biggest ally in the real game, I wonder how she would react to being paired up with Sara's worst enemy. Hell I could see Shin and Hinako teaming up and working against Sara in 3-2, if Hinako were to survive the Banquet.
Ranmaru and Kanna: This one I mostly just find a bit funny but there is some good potential to it: If Ranmaru was paired up with anyone other then Sara he would definitely try to kill him, his will to live is really strong and without a huge crush in the way, I'd say he has enough motivation to go through with it. And when he tries to kill Kanna, Kanna would of course forgive him being the little bean she is and I'd think she'd see a lot of Shin in him and try to resonate with him through a little speech, sort of how she did with Kurumada in canon.
Anzu and Keiji: Pairing up Keiji, someone who is extremely depressed, very reclusive and self-deprecative, with Anzu, someone who is always very light-hearted and tries her best to empathize/connect, would definitely be a sight for the eyes. Would it balance out? Would Anzu absorb some of Keiji's pessimistic attitude? Would Keiji lighten up for a change? When Keiji gets trapped in the coffin, I think Anzu would be just as motivated as Sara to save him if they were partners. She just can't bring herself to kill him, at all.
Mai and Gin/Kanna: I'm grouping this one together because although I think there would be differences based on whether or not it would be Gin or Kanna paired up with Mai, I'm mainly just going to focus on the quality both of them have that would impact Mai: being a kid. I think Mai would still put on her innocent bubbly persona on, maybe even acting quite motherly to Kanna/Gin, but would she actually go through with trying to kill/harm them? Maybe she would try to find some painless way to kill them or should we put her faith in the group as a whole. If they were to survive her murder attempt, Kanna would most likely just act like Q-Taro in canon whereas Gin might be way more scared of her and such.
Kanna and (Fake) Hinako: These two are often paired together as friends or as a ship and there's a lot of fan content where these two interact. But what I see basically never discussed is the thematic potential their pairing has, it's basically a mirror to the Shin and Hinako parallels I talked about earlier but inverted. Shin and Hinako have different motivations but reach the same conclusion whereas Kanna and Hinako are both quite logical characters (Kanna begs for you to choose the logical option in 2-2) and have the same viewpoints but come to differing conclusions: trust and distrust. Hinako would try to kill Kanna in my opinion because the way I see it, the only reason she didn't try to kill Keiji was because of strength and later on, sympathy. Would Kanna survive/overpower her? Who knows, but Kanna would definitely try to empathize/connect with Hinako, especially since they're around the same age.
That's it for now, but I might do more in the future!

I actually kind of like that only one of the dummies can survive in 3-1b
The reason everyone agreed to do the banquet was to save more people, since the dummies would all die otherwise, and I really enjoy that feeling in the end where on one hand it seems pointless because it ended up saving just one extra person, but on the other hand it was entirely worth it because oh my god it saved another person (I know the survivor runs out of battery but like. there’s a charger. just plug them in like a smartphone they’ll be alright)
And considering how characters like Mishima and Kai had us learning more about them after they died than while they were alive, there’s still hope that the dead dummies will get some characterization too

SPOILERS BELOW FOR YTTD 2-1 AS WELL AS KAI’S MINISODE
Been replaying YTTD on the Steam release and I of course had to choose Reko lives route because I’m very gay (I was still very sad to kill Feko and Alice though). However, while Ranger is taunting Reko about her now dead brother, we get this little line. Previously, it just seemed like Ranger’s usual shenanigans. But given the context of Kai’s mini episode...
Does Ranger know that he is a doll of Sei? Given his lack of reaction to Kai in the recap between 2-1 and 2-2, it seems that he’s unaware of the memories of the human he’s based on (unlike other dolls we meet like Feko, whose AIs have as recent of memories as possible). So maybe he thinks he’s a completely original creation of Gashu’s? Or maybe knows he’s based off of someone but has no clue who that might specifically be?
But if he does know of Sei’s relationship to Kai, it makes that bit about a sibling bond hit like a truck. Just like Reko now, Kai’s brother (even if not biological) was killed right in front of him. Sei was the Alice of the past. And yet here’s Ranger, a doll of Sei, mocking sibling bonds.
I don’t have the analysis skills to continue with this but I’d love someone better at this than me to look into Ranger on a macro level given what we know from Kai’s minisode. We don’t have 3-2 yet so maybe we’ll learn more about Ranger and/or Sei there, but even if we don’t there’s probably a lot we all missed the first time around given we didn’t know about Sei at all.
THE BELOW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR YTTD 3-1B AS WELL AS ANZU’S MINISODE
And speaking of the minisodes and completely unrelated to this post: Ryuu is definitely related to fake Hinako right? The hair is the same shade of pink. And since fake Hinako was associated with ASUNARO, would that make Ryuu (and potentially the circus he was a part of) associated with ASUNARO as well?

So, I've been thinking about YTTD recently...
(Spoilers in Images used; up to Chapter 3-1B)
Going through this game while it's being made has honestly been a very unique experience for me. I don't typically interact with media till it's finished or near completion. But playing YTTD early has made me go back and see a lot of cool things that I don't think I would've acknowledged before. And in this sense, I think one of the most unique (and in turn, cool) aspects of it is how the art has improved over the years this game's been in the works.
Usually, Visual Novels have a really consistent art style. Look at Danganronpa, Ace Attorney, games like that, and it's very uniform, very polished in its art. And while Your Turn to Die's art was *never* bad, there's been a lot of progression in Nankidai's art and how he works with it. While some parts (such as character sprites) have hit a pretty consistent point, there's more visible improvement in other areas.
Of course, there's the obvious; the general improvements, like knowledge of space and stronger shading. Those are fairly apparent as the game is played. (I mean just look at the backgrounds in Chapter 1 vs. the backgrounds in Chapter 3)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the one I don't see talked about enough; the direction is pushed! There's a lot more exaggeration in the CGs! Better conveyed emotions, a lot more unique artistic expression! (Again, Chapter 1 vs. Chapter 3 below). The player can really see Nankidai start to break free from the fundamentals and find his style throughout the game, and that's just... really cool to me!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The player isn't just seeing the story and characters progress as the game goes along, but they also see how this artist evolves throughout making the game! It just has a lot of soul to it, and it's really inspiring to me as an artist. Again, you wouldn't see this in a more mainstream, big-budget game, and I think this works to Your Turn to Die's benefit! It makes me eager to see not just how this project of his wraps up, but also how the art evolves, and what he ends up making in the future.
(also explains why it's taken longer and longer to gets parts done but tbh I'm fine with waiting if we keep getting these top-notch improvements)

YTTD THEORY ABOUT THE THIRD MAIN GAME IN THE LOGIC/SHIN ROUTE
(Spoilers obviously if you haven’t played all the way through the game)
So I saw some else have an idea similar to this, but here’s what I think the card roles are going to be then I’ll explain why
Shin - keymaster
Keiji- sage
Sara - sacrifice
Gin - commoner
Ok so shin is 100% going to be the keymaster, that’s easy. I figured he was going to be ever since we saw his key necklace in chapter 2-2. He also quite literally holds the key to their escape/survival. He can either lock Sara and co out, like in chapter 1 and kind of chapter 2, or he can open up like in chapter 2-2. And he needs to choose what he wants to seal the fate of the others.
Sara is also easily the sacrifice. She can either sacrifice the others and earn her life, like we see her almost do in chapter 3-1b w ranmaru. Especially now that joe is not there, this could be the case, the angel of death like keiji says. Or she could be their goddess of victory, and sacrifice herself in order to save the others.
Keiji is probably the wisest out of them. He can see things others can’t with his “detective vision”. He knows way more then he seems to let on, and he’s very good at staying quiet and keeping secrets when needed.
Gin is going to be the commoner then. He’s fairly normal and average at first and just like the commoner card he’s almost always at danger. But he always tries to help when he can and has proven to be useful.
Like I said someone else pointed out the symbolism w this, but I think it’s more then that. If I’m right and these are the cards that they get, then that probably means that Sara and keiji are biting the dust. (Maybe gin too but I hope not 😰.) Sara will be executed just like joe, and this probably means, just by looking at shin’s death in 2-2 and Kai’s “death” (I really don’t believe he’s dead) in chapter 1, then keiji is probably going to do something against what the floormasters want. Like shin’s collar coming off and Kai’s “suicide” (still don’t believe he’s dead). Idk what he’s going to do or how it’s going to be done, but yeah.
This would also line up almost perfectly with the memorandum from 2-2. Assuming gin dies as well, and sole survivor shin, then it fits perfectly.
Anyways that’s my Ted talk of the day

Hopes for YTTD: Chapter 3-2
(SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE GAME UP TO CHAPTER 3-1B)
Not sure if anyone else has made this sort of blogpost yet, but this is essentially going to be a master compilation of all the specific things I hope we get to see in Chapter 3-2: - Sara facing her simulation self, perhaps in a battle or just in a small confrontational discussion: This (alongside possibly her memories of Joe being restored in the Logic Route) would serve as an amazing end and send-off to the character of Sara Chidouin. Having her face down her greatest insecurities, all the things that she thought were true about herself until she met Joe, and beat them? And not only that, coming to term with Joe's death and moving forward in life? It would be such a great way to show how far Sara has grown, all the way back since that fateful night stroll...
 - An epilogue scene: It doesn't matter how far into the future it is, could be one week after the events of the game or 10 years (though I'm hoping for the latter, imagine how bittersweet and emotionally gut-wrenching it would be to see Kanna and Gin all grown up...my heart will melt), just a scene showing us how the survivors are adjusting back to regular life. After all the pain and hardships they went through, seeing so many people die including some of their loved ones and having their lives put on the chopping block so many times, just seeing them live life normally and try to move on from all that has happened would be....bittersweet...so so bittersweet. I can imagine that the survivors would heavily value life and try to make the very most of their experience as humans after such a traumatic experience, but I can also imagine the survivors trying to live a peaceful and relaxing life after this as well. I'd also think it'd be heartbreaking but also uplifting to see the survivors honoring the memories of everyone that died. Contacting their friends and family and letting them know what happened to them, holding a huge memorial for all of them, making sure that their final wishes were realized (like Nao wanting to paint that picture of Mishima). All in all, I'd think it make for a pretty banger ending.
- "Shin" abandons the scarf: This one is pretty self-explanatory, Shin abandons the red scarf which is/was the symbol of Midori's control/influence over him, what drove him to become "Sou Hiyori" alongside the Four Papers and what drove him to do all the malicious and manipulative things he did. It goes without saying that if Shin ever gets a redemption arc as the final conclusion of his character, which I definitely see happening, he will have to break free of Midori's influence over him and this includes ditching the scarf. But he can't just put the blue scarf back on, he can't just return to the innocent and frail man that Shin Tsukimi was before the Death Game, he watched his sister die in front of him and had to bear all the pain and angst that came with it, his existence in the Death Game was filled with anger and malice, Yes. But it was also filled with fleeting moments of concern and connection, something Shin will have to do in order to fully get over Kanna's death: It may take years, but he will live and survive because that's what Kanna wanted for him. He will abandon the red scarf but I don't see him putting the blue scarf back on: Either he will move on from both and not adorn a scarf at all or he will adorn a purple scarf, a combination of both.
- On the note of Midori....he gets briefly revived before dying again, similar to how Rio Ranger (or Rio Laizer, I suppose) was: This sort of ties back into the previous hope, having Midori come back and having him interact with Shin would be incredibly satisfying and seeing them get to talk about everything that went on between him and maybe even Shin killing Midori this time, it would be amazing. It could also clear up a few minor plot details such as his participant status. Was he a candidate or a non-candidate? And also...
- Fake Hinako's backstory or info pertaining to her: This one I don't mind not happening because we'll probably get it in her minisode but just to talk about it... Kai had a lot of his character and backstory revealed to us post-mortem because the surviving characters were driven to doubt him and uncover his motives. The very same may happen to the Fake Hinako, perhaps it's revealed that Fake Hinako had a much bigger hand in interfering with the events of the Murderer Sub-Game, perhaps there's a function on the Dummies that she changed because she harbored rebellious thoughts, there's a lot of ways we can go with this due to how much of a mystery the Fake Hinako really is. Another hope I have that I'm going to bundle in with this one is for a Real Hinako face reveal and possibly even a wish reveal, if Fake Hinako is heavily linked to Real Hinako then this may be a possibility? I don't think it's very likely (unfortunately) but it'd be nice to have some more info on these girls who we barely know nothing about.
- Speaking of black-haired girls who died in the First Trial and weren't revived in the Dummies, one thing that may happen in the Emotions Route is that we get to see Kugie's victim video, not for any plot-related reasons but....yup, you guessed it....CHARACTER reasons!! Particularly, Kanna's: Unlike with what I talked about Shin and Sara, I see this sort of moment being more of a send-off or a testament to Kanna's character since chapter 1-1. She's grown so much, from the sad little crying child to a determined girl who's lost everything and wants to move forward with hope. Having her watch Kugie's victim video, and not even flinch and cry would be so...empowering for her? Not sure if that's the right word, but whatever. Oh, and there's one more black-haired girl who died in the First Trial too...
- Megumi Sasahara will become plot relevant in the final chapter: I'm not saying that she'll be given a fleshed character and a sad backstory, just that she will hold some sort of plot relevance in this chapter. Perhaps it will be revealed that she was unknowingly helping ASU-NARO by accepting bribes from them, perhaps there is information about the Hades Incident that she knows about and that we will find out through talking to her A.I. That latter seems pretty likely to me, especially since we still have the mystery of "Shinobu Gokujo" to figure out.
- Hayasaka, Kurumada and Mai's wishes (or perhaps for Mai, her special info which wasn't revealed): Hayasaka especially here considering how he cursed out Sara's name in his victim video, there is definitely information that he knows that we may draw out with the lantern and it could be related to his ASU-NARO vow wish. For Kurumada, there is a possibility that he was the one who wished Sara into the Death Game. Perhaps his wish was something like "I want to fight someone stronger then me" and Sara did have the highest percentage after all. For Mai, perhaps her secret info relates to some function of the dolls that we don't yet know about, I can't see how her wish would be relevant though.
Before I end this, I'd like to say that I'm not going to go into 3-2 with all these insanely high expectations, these are just hopes after all. In reality, I will be okay with any outcome we get, as long as the ending is satisfying and makes sense (simulation theory is one of the ones I don't want to happen) but it'd be nice if a few of these were to happen in 3-2!!
