imagine: you get your memories back after years of amnesia to find out your whole species is dead and earth doesn’t exist anymore. that the only thing left of your culture is your weird ex and his busted honda civic that barely even works that he stole from the government when he was 13. And he’s been taking members of an alien species for trips in his honda civic and they’re all like “woah it’s so cool” and you get upset because it’s NOT COOL it’s a honda civic, the turn signals don’t even work “wow it can go up hills” yeah OF COURSE IT CAN GO UP HILLS EVERY CAR COULD DO THAT. but they’ve never seen a car before so everything it does is the coolest thing ever. And your ex’s only tool is a fucking screwdriver which is somehow also cool to this dumbass alien species even though it’s a fucking screwdriver so you just look like an idiot screaming about how none of this is even cool it’s actually really shitty but your whole planet is gone so you can’t even prove it but also you’ve had a constant drumming sounding in your head since you were 10 slowly driving you insane. Githyanki doodling on post-it notes that I cleaned up a lil bit Lae'zel from memory on the first (im only happy with the profile tbh), and Anma and Mitas on the second (It was SO easy to fit them in BG3 lore it's insane... preston garvey is such an og bro, and yes for all the reasons you're thinking of but also because like, he literally led a whole group of people from Quincy to Jamaica Plain!! AND THEN ACROSS THE CHARLES RIVER TO LEXINGTON AND THEEN EVEN FURTHER UP NORTH TO CONCORD.

he was watching out for this group of people who had just been run out of their homes. he stayed with these refugees throughout every disastrous place they thought they'd be safe, every death, and just all that grieving; all while struggling with his own sense of purpose ("Everything I believed in had turned out to be a lie.") and feelings of being a failure, that led him to thinking he'd be better off dead :( plus, these people from Quincy were strangers to him at first. he didn't have to do all that, yet he took it upon himself to do so. because he's just built that way. he's too good for the damn wasteland. </3

and like even after all of that, he doesn't hang the Minuteman hat up. he keeps on going, pushing the boulder up the hill in hope of making the Commonwealth a better and safer place.

I feel like there’s something with Clara being as unhinged as she is *without* a traumatic backstory, like she’s doing all of this just on sheer power of will/belief in her own bullshit??? And I love her for it

literally!!!! like she's definitely incredibly traumatised don't get me wrong but unlike all the other companions who took their pain and made it so that nobody else would ever feel like that, clara oswald decided to use it to make herself worse. everything she does is half for the bit and half bc she thinks it makes her look hot (unfortunately it does)

like i know 100% that if she'd never travelled with the doctor that woman would've still eventually ended up dying in her 30s, probably after killing someone
