Sirius Black x gn! Reader - Burn
A/n: This is a song fic from the song burn from Hamilton, this also isn't by best work because I wrote it so long ago but I thought it would be a good way to kick of heartbreak week because it the least angsty out of all them!
Heartbreak week masterlist?
Summary: You were warned but you ignored them in favor of love, now look where that got you
Warnings: Cheating, heartbreak, implied abusive black family (just barely,) I think that's it? You have been warned!
The three P's:
[Pronouns used: you/your] [Pov: 2nd person] [Parings: (romantic) Sirius x reader, (platonic) unnamed sister OC x reader]
I saved every letter you wrote to me
From the moment I read them
I knew you were mine
You said you were mine
I thought you were mine
"Y/n you have another letter!" Your sister yells at you as you run down the stairs to tear it from her hands.
"Hey!"
You ignore her, ripping open the letter your eyes racing over the paragraphs, and memorizing each and every word. You drink in the pages, and pages of words and your heart had learned to love the smell of ink and parchment.
You love Sirius, perhaps you were too young to know but you love him. It was harsh sometimes your relationship, mostly due to his parents but you two dealt with it fine. You were in love, what more could you need?
Do you know what Angelica said
When we saw your first letter arrive?
"You should run Y/n." Your sister whispered to you as you cradled the letter in your hands like it was the most precious jewel there was to behold.
"You should run far away before he breaks you."
She said, be careful with that one, love
He will do what it takes to survive
"He wouldn't!" You snapped, aghast at what your sister had even the guts to say. How could she think that!
"Sirius is caring and loving! He would never-"
Your sister just shakes her head and takes your hands into hers. The look in her eyes was sad, terribly sad.
"Just be careful is all I'm saying."
You consider her words for second before nodding, with this you could agree with her. You would guard your heart with your life, but you would also wear it on your sleeve. You were a fool in love.
You and your words flooded my senses
Your sentences left me defenseless
Your hands intertwine with Sirius's as you look at him like he's a star. When you looked at him like that he was, he was a bright star and you were just a lonely moon that was in his orbit. Not even significant enough to matter.
"I'm going to have to spend Christmas away again."
He sighs pulling away from you rubbing his hands over his face.
"Do you have to?" His voice breaks a little as he peaks at you with his twinkling grey eyes.
You built me palaces out of paragraphs
You built cathedrals
For a split second you almost say no, you nearly slip into the habit but you can't. You had to spend Christmas with your family, even if it meant being away from your boyfriend for a couple of weeks.
He sighs yet again, he seems to be doing that quite a bit lately before he pulls you into a long loving kiss.
It ends too soon as he pulls away from you, you miss the heat that he brings and the certain happiness that could only come from him.
"I'll be okay love." He says but there's a particular way he says it, almost like he's relived that you're not staying, yet you brush it off. It was just nothing... Right?
I'm re-reading the letters you wrote to me
I'm searching and scanning for answers in every line
For some kind of sign
And when you were mine
You scrambled through the Hogwarts corridors, you could see your lover again! After all the time spent away, you could see him again! You seemed to be glowing as you ran around Hogwarts looking for him, only for the sight you see to be the worst thing your eyes have ever laid upon.
He was kissing someone else. In front of everyone.
The world seemed to burn
Burn
They just kept on kissing as some foolish students would cheer them on and he would grin cockily pulling away from the person before they would pull him right back in.
You published the letters she wrote you
You told the whole world
How you brought this girl into our bed
In clearing your name
You have ruined our lives
You couldn't take it anymore you ran out of the hallway crying your eyes out. Why would he do it? Why!
So you ran to your sister.
And as soon as she saw your eyes filled with tears as some already flooded down your face she dreaded the words you were about to say. Ultimately though, she knew just as you opened your mouth what you were about to voice.
"You were right."
Do you know what Angelica said
When she read what you'd done?
"He's a fool." She said as she cradled you in her arms.
"He's a fool for losing you." She whispered into your ear.
She said, you've married an Icarus
He has flown too close to the sun
"I had to do it Y/n!" Sirius hollers at you as you try and find a way to escape the room you were in.
He had cornered you in an empty classroom, as he's been trying to talk to you for weeks now. You've been avoiding him like the plague, with good reason.
You and your words obsessed with your legacy
Your sentences border on senseless
"My family was getting on my ass for dating you! So I had to make them happy and I thought-"
Slap!
The crisp, clear clap of your hand meeting his face echoes throughout the room as you gaze upon him with angry eyes. You weren't sad anymore you were furious and burning with rage, the flames consuming you and everything else around it.
And you are paranoid in every paragraph
How they perceive you
You, you, you!
"If you wanted to please your family so bad you aren't the Sirius I know and love." You snare at him.
You take a step forward backing him into the wall behind him.
"If you ever think anyone or even your family is going to see how I was a fool to be in love with you like before, you would be wrong!"
I'm erasing myself from the narrative
Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted
When you broke her heart
You have torn it all apart
Taking the letters out of your pocket you look at them once more, reading them all and sometimes even smiling slightly at the versus. You loved him, you still do. Some part of you would always love him.
So it had to burn.
I'm watching it burn
Watching it burn
You don't even need a wand, you don't even move your hands the letters just burst into flames in front of you.
Sirius gasped as he lunged for the letters (they must have been dear to him too) but you just kept on feeding the fire with them, as you tossed one after another in the flames.
The world has no right to my heart
The world has no place in our bed
"Y/n, please! I needed to find a place to stay at-" He throws a hand through his hair but you don't stop the distress that is going through him. In simple terms you don't care anymore it's not your problem.
"My family had threaten to kick me out! I just needed to find a place to stay! But I didn't have anytime so I kissed them thinking if the information reached them in time they'd let me off the hook!"
They don't get to know what I said
I'm burning the memories
Burning the letters that might have redeemed you
Looking over at him with a blank face you just shrug your shoulders uncaring.
"We both know you could have asked James."
You forfeit all rights to my heart
A trace of fear flashes in his eyes and you know the truth.
"What did you think I'd really fall for that trick?" Your voice is monotone but it hides an underlying threat. Or maybe in was a very real threat, that was very real now.
You forfeit the place in our bed
"Y/n please don't do this! Don't burn those letters!"
"So? So!" Finally your voice has fury in it and suddenly Sirius is flown back across the room and more papers, and desks, light on fire. But it doesn't spread unless you want it to.
"So you can be the good guy? Ah!" You laugh as you throw more letters into the fire.
You'll sleep in your office instead
Sirius looks at you affronted, and some part of you wanted to ruin his life in exchange for breaking your heart. Though, that part was the angry, hot ice and it was slowly dripping away. Now the furious rage was gone and all that was left was the cold flames.
"Y/n! This will ruin my life!"
With only the memories of when you were mine
"Y/n! N/n..." He attempts to comfort you through his manipulative words as he goes to softly reach for your hand.
"You wouldn't want to ruin someones life would you?" He says in his sweet, charming voice that he used to use on you.
You wrench your hand from his grasp and open the door and look back at him once before walking away.
"You did that yourself."
I hope that you burn

The crowd cheered as the Quarterback, James Potter caught the football, throwing it over to Sirius Black; the Wide Receiver. He jumped into the air with a massive smile on his face, catching the ball in his arms; before making a bee-line to the end zone. The crowd was on its feet in an instant and roared even louder. You jumped as best as you could in your giant mascot suit, cheering as your team scored. You were the mascot called Wolfy the Wolverine Wizard. Basically, for each game, you suited up in the smelly costume for a couple of hours; dancing and hyping up the crowd. Which, you were surprisingly good at. In school, outside of the mascot suit, you were shy; and honestly, a bookworm. But, being hidden inside that suit gave you the courage and power to be more 'out there' as your parents would say it.
You didn't care for football too much, but the offer to be the mascot... You couldn't say no. The principal, Mr. Dumbledore, said they would pay you... Twenty-four dollars an hour. More than you honestly made in a week at your part-time job at your aunt's flower shop. On top of the good pay, you found out that they give out amazing scholarships to those who were high school mascots... Lucky you. And honestly, you did get used to the sweaty smell that aerated the suit, and the darkness that constantly engulfed you. The only light you got was from the cartoonish mouth of the Wolverine you dressed as. Which, you thought, was quite cute in its purple wizard robe. It even had little stars on it.
As the game continued, your team would only need a few more points to win, and you were excited to get the suit off and go home. You really wanted to go home and do your homework before you kicked back and watched your favorite tv show. But, you quickly had to snap out of your daydream, swiftly getting back into character; skipping sideways across the sidelines, trying to hype up the crowd. Waving your large fuzzy paws, you were able to get the crowds on the many bleachers to start the wave. A proud accomplishment.
Stomping your heavy feet and clapping your hands, you and the crowd chanted "Go, Go, Wolverines," as the play continued. You watched for the briefest of moments, watching as James got tossed the ball. James Potter was the most popular kid in all of Rowena High School. You remembered in Freshman year he used to be a ladies' man before he met his current girlfriend, Lily Evans. Ever since then, he never flirted or gave another girl at the school a second glance. You thought he was kind of whipped for the redhead.
And then there was Remus Lupin. He was Coach Hooch's assistant, he came up with most of the plays, being a little genius. In school, he was always carrying a book with him or a clipboard. He wasn't as popular as James, but he was still friends with him. Remus was actually an acquaintance of yours. Having three classes with him, you thought he was sweet and smart; also having been paired up for most of your projects. He gave the best book recommendations.
There was also Peter Pettiegrew, the third member of their little group. He was less popular than Remus, and he was always a bit awkward. You did feel bad for him though. He did get bullied a lot, some people around the school called him 'Wormtail.' You tried to talk with him, befriend him, but he’d always try and avoid you, making up excuses for where he needed to be. You gave up after a while, you didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.
And, lastly, the fourth and last member of The Marauders, as they called themselves, was Sirius Black. Now, he was the second most popular guy at your school. Sirius was charming, witty, funny, and not-to-mention a ladies' man. (You even knew his cousin, she was kind of a loner and a frantic shopper at Hot Topic; you didn’t really hang with her and her bad crowd). For your three and a half years of high school at Rowena High... You had seen Sirius with a lot of girls. It was like he always had a girl on his arm, or pinning them to their locker, or sneaking off, and skipping classes. His girl problems were almost as bad as the constant pranking problems he'd have with James. He was annoying to you, to say the least. But, as annoying as he was, you couldn’t ignore how handsome he was. Though, out of the four boys, you'd rather be stuck on an island with Remus. At least with him, he'd probably know how to get off the thing.
Before you knew it, the crowd was going wild. Your team won! You watched as the team lifted Sirius into the air on their shoulders, cheering and chanting his name. Letting him down, he was smiling so widely it looked painful, holding a trophy in his hand. He was laughing as the rest of the students rushed towards him. They were all hugging, congratulating him. As the cheering died down, you stayed back as most of the crowd and team left to go inside. You let out a sigh, heading your way to the empty bleachers to sit down. It was nice to finally take a break after so long, but it was so worth it. Letting out another sigh, you reached up to lift the mascot's head off of you, finally breathing in some good ol' fresh air. You blinked your eyes at the abusive light as your eyes adjusted before you set your mascot's head on the ground.
"I didn't realize you were a girl," You heard a voice speak up, surprising you and making you whip around. Sirius Black stood a few feet away, still in his football gear, but his helmet under his arm. "Or pretty." He finished, giving you a grin as you turned away, fighting the blush that would gradually make its way to your face.
"Thank, I guess." You muttered, "And, yes... I'm a girl. Not all mascots are guys." You rolled your eyes as Sirius shook his head, chuckling lightly.
"No... I didn't mean it in a bad way... Uh, I just didn't know you were a girl is all." He responded, scratching the back of his neck nervously as you shrugged the best you could.
"I'm not offended," You assured him, standing straight again, "It's cool.
"Cool, cool, cool…” Sirius stared at you briefly before snapping out of his gaze, “Uh, I actually wanted to know how you did that cartwheel. You know, with the mascot's head and all." Sirius asked, as you grabbed the mascot's head and stood up.
"Magic. Now, if you'll excuse me... I need to get home. Uh... Good game." You gave him a small smile before heading off to the school.
Sirius watched as you left, feeling slightly disappointed. He really liked you. And couldn’t believe he never bumped into you in the halls or anything. How did he miss a girl like you? Maybe we could ask you out sometime. Letting out a sigh, Sirius walked over to Remus, who was helping clean up.
"Hey, Moony, who's the girl in the mascot costume?" He asked his friend, wanting to know your name; hoping Remus knew who you were considering he was the Coach Assistant.
Remus looked up from what he was doing, "Oh, Y/N? Yeah, her name is Y/N. Why? Are you going to try and ask her out too?" Remus asked, pausing what he was doing to cross his arms, "'Cause it's not going to work."
Sirius raised an eyebrow, "Really? Why? She seems like a nice girl."
Remus sighed, shaking his head, "Yeah, she is a nice girl... But that's not the problem here. You are a ladies' man, a casanova, if you will. Y/N is a smart girl... She won't fall for you." He sighed once more, “And honestly, we all know you get tired of her and dump her. Like all the other girls you’ve dated.”
Sirius rolled his eyes, ignoring Remus’s last comment, and adjusting his helmet in his gloved hands, "Girls love me, everyone loves me!" He exclaimed as Remus gave him a deadpan look.
"I don't love you and that Snape kid doesn't love you. I bet more than eighty percent of people at this school hate you. Especially Mrs. McGonagall since you pranked her and cheated on her test in Sophomore year. Which, by the way, if you want to even have the slightest chance with this girl... Cut the pranks and the bullying. She's friends with Snape."
Sirius sputtered out a laugh, "Snivellus? She's friends with that loser?"
Remus sighed, "You're hopeless."
Sirius huffed before he headed back into the school and the locker rooms. With a pep in his step, Sirius began to plan how to ask you out. He was confident that you would say yes. Of course, you would, he was Sirius Black.
~~~
"He talked to you?" Severus asked, shocked before his wide eyes narrowed and he gave the ground a judgemental look. "I hate that guy." He muttered, before turning to you beside him on the bench. "You can't talk to him. He's no good. You know what they do to me." Severus practically pleaded, as you nodded and gave him a small sigh.
"Yeah, yeah, I know. But I couldn't not answer his compliment."
Severus was one of your best friends. You had met him on the first couple of days of Freshman year. Severus was a small, shy guy, eyes always on the ground and head down. He was smart though, which you quickly found out in class. You had noticed that Severus usually worked alone and didn't really talk to anyone, so you decided to talk to him. It was a rough start, but as the weeks went by, Severus grew to trust you. Soon enough, you were hanging out whenever you could; at lunch, studying, free hours... You trusted Severus with your life.
And you trusted his word and honored his opinion. You knew what James and Sirius usually did to Severus. Pranking and overall bullying. It was terrible in Freshman year, getting intense at times before it slowly fizzled out in Senior year. Yes, sometimes they called him names and stuff like that. But at least they weren’t giving him wedgies anymore. You grew to dislike James and Sirius. Mostly James, for he was the leader of the bullying. And Sirius, the leader of the pranks.
Severus looked up at you, bewildered once more, "He complimented you? That... That idiot."
"What?" You asked, glancing up from your sketchbook, "Why can't he compliment me? It was harmless." You shrugged and Severus huffed, kicking his beat-up black converse in the dirt.
"What did he say?" Severus asked softly, begrudgingly.
"He said that I was pretty." You answered simply, Severus immediately groaned after you finished, tilting his head back before he hunched over; raking his hands through his hair. You narrowed your own eyes, "What? Am I not deserving of a kind compliment?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No... You do deserve a good compliment. It's just the person who gave you the compliment is the problem." Severus sighed deeply, frustratedly, as he sat up and looked at you. "You have to avoid him, Y/N/N. He's a playboy. You know it."
You nodded, finishing your sketch of the flowers a few feet from you. "Yeah, I know. I know he's trouble." You shut your sketchbook, sliding your pencil in the coils of it. "But... Who knows..." You stood up, grabbing your backpack as the bell rang. "He might’ve changed his ways…"
Severus's eyes widened comically wide as he stumbled to stand and make his way up to you, matching your walking pace as he struggled to adjust the backpack straps on his shoulders. "You won't." Severus gasped, and you hummed, grinning lightly.
"No... Sev... I won't. And I won't speak to him or seek him out..." Severus sighed in relief, "Unless I have to." You finished as you headed off to class, waving goodbye to your friend.
~~~
Sliding your books into your locker, you slammed it closed with a sigh as you locked it, turning to head down the corridor; you jumped back. Standing before you was Sirius Black, a grin on his face, and his hands firmly stuffed into the pockets of his black jeans. You stared up at him, shifting in your spot as his grin widened. "Hi," You breathed out.
"Hey." He replied, moving his hand onto the lockers, leaning against him as he looked down at you. "How are you?" He questioned, causing you to give him an amused smile.
"I'm good, and also late to class. So... If you'll excuse me." You stepped around him, heading to class as Sirius jogged to catch up with you.
"Well, I won't keep you long, Y/N. Just want to ask you something." He spoke and you paused, looking up at him with a raised eyebrow.
"How do you-" You hummed, realization dawning over your features as you smiled, "Oh... Remus told you who I am?" And Sirius nodded.
"Yeah, anyway. Wanna go out sometime?" He asked, causing you to blink in surprise.
"Me?" You repeated, confused; surprised. Looking at Sirius, you cursed him and his good looks. Why did he have to be so handsome? No, Y/N, don't fall for his tricks.
"Yes, you. On a date with me." Sirius nodded again with a smirk, wiggling his eyebrows.
You scoffed, shaking your head. "I don't think so. If you don't know... Mr. Sirius..." You glared up at him, "You bully my best friend."
You started off back down the hall. Sirius's mouth opened and closed in surprise before he rushed back over to you.
"Listen, I'm sorry about what I've done to Sniv-" You turned to give him a hard glare, quickly shutting him up. "S... Snape." He finished, making you raise an eyebrow skeptically.
"I'm not the one you should be apologizing to, Sirius." You scolded, causing him to gulp nervously, his brown eyes wide. You stared up at him, inspecting his face, features, and overall expression, before sighing, shaking your head, and heading to class once more.
"Y/N, wait!" Sirius called, running to catch up to you. He reached out and held onto your arm, turning you around slightly. "Look, what can I do?"
You stared at him, confused more than ever. You knew Sirius always got a girl on his arm, it was almost too easy for him to grab a date. Every girl in that school worshiped him. Why was he so desperate to go on a date with you? You didn't like it. Either it was some sick prank or... Maybe he just liked the chase. With a frown on your face, you shook your head. "There is nothing you can do." You mumbled before continuing on your walk. Sirius watched you leave until you disappeared around the corner, sighing.
~~~
"I don't know what to do. She wants nothing to do with me." Sirius basically whined, pushing his food around on his tray. Meatloaf. Sirius hated meatloaf.
Remus sighed heavily, rolling his eyes as he put his fork down. "You must stop being such a drama queen, Sirius. You cannot force her to like you."
“Crimes against humanity.” Peter muttered, eating his lunch.
Sirius huffed, resting his hand under his chin, and slouching in his seat. "I'm not a drama queen. I just don't get it. I thought she'd say yes."
Remus paused his eating to stare at Sirius, narrowing his eyes as he analyzed him. Remus noticed the sad, longing look in Sirius's eyes, the way his shoulders slumped as he gazed off into space. ‘Space’ as in staring across the lunchroom at you. Remus narrowed his eyes further, his lips pressing together tightly. "Sirius," He called softly, snapping the other boy out of whatever trance he had been in. "Are you... Do you like her?" His question gained Peter's and James's attention as well.
Sirius huffed indignantly, glaring at his best friend. "Of course I do... I did ask her out."
Remus rolled his eyes, "No, I mean, do you like her?"
Sirius looked at Remus, confused, "Why would I ask her out if I didn't like her?" He asked, causing Remus to sigh again.
"That isn't what I meant, Sirius."
Peter cleared his throat, "He means to say, do you fancy her?"
Sirius's eyes widened, before he cast his eyes down to his tray, clearing his throat. Suddenly the large room felt hot and Sirius's face began to flush, the tip of his ears red. James watched in awe before he slammed his hand on the lunch table with a laugh. "Ha! Sirius is in love!" He exclaimed, Sirius quickly covered James's mouth with his hand, shushing him violently.
"Shut it, Potter." He growled at his friend, pulling his hand away slowly. He looked at his friends, who all seemed rather impressed with how flustered Sirius had become. "I'm not... In love with her." He muttered, picking up a piece of bread and shoving it in his mouth.
"Really? Are you sure?" James continued to taunt him, smiling innocently.
"Shut. Up." Sirius snapped, his cheeks flushed as he glared at them.
"Sorry, but you are pretty red, Padfoot." Peter pointed out. Sirius rolled his eyes at that, taking another bite of his meal; ignoring Peter's words entirely.
~~~
Opening your locker, you paused, finding a rose sitting inside, tucked behind a piece of paper. Your eyes widened as you grabbed the note, unfolding it slowly, squinting as your eyes scanned over it.
'Roses are red, violets are blue, I'd really like to go on a date with you.'
You huffed, twisting the perfect red rose in your fingers as you closed your locker. Knowing exactly who gave you the wonderful rose, you sighed, rolling your eyes. You just hoped that Sirius would give up sooner rather than later.
The next day though was similar. You had found some chocolate M&Ms in your locker. And then the next, you found a small bear plush in your locker. You thought it was cute, a red bear with shiny black eyes. You named him Griffon. But, you weren't falling for it. Even though, for the next few weeks, Sirius left gifts in your locker everyday. From flowers, to snacks, to plushies.
Opening your locker three weeks later, you sighed, finding a small rectangular velvet box. For a moment, you freaked out but realized it was too big for an engagement ring. You huffed, chuckling to yourself. If Sirius had proposed, then he really was committed to convincing you.
"Y/N, uh, hey." You heard, turning to see Sirius beside you. He looked as he usually did, hand stuffed in his pockets, and the first two buttons of his black button-up undone. He looked almost nervous, which was odd for the usually confident boy.
"What are you doing here?" You asked, raising your eyebrow curiously.
"I wanted to talk to you." He replied with a shrug.
You shook your head, smiling awkwardly as you grabbed the most recent present from your locker before closing it. "It's too early for this. I'm going to class." You spoke as Sirius noticed the box in your hand.
"Do you like your gift?" He asked, giving you a small smile, eyes glancing at you, to the box, and back; eyeing you expectantly.
You looked at the box, "Uh, I haven't opened it yet." You looked back up at him. “And I have no idea how you keep breaking into my locker.” You muttered after.
"Oh, uh, it's a necklace. I thought you'd like it." He spoke up, “You know… Saw it and thought of you.” He muttered and you shook your head, shoving the box in his hands.
"Another reason why I don't need it." You shook your head, "Gifts won't magically make me say yes to a date with you, Sirius." You turned to go down the hall.
"What will?" He suddenly asked, gaining the attention of a few peers already in the hall as he called to you. "What can I do?"
You turned, shuffling in your spot as you adjusted your backpack strap on your shoulder. You pursed your lips, staring at the young man before you as you thought. You watched as Sirius stared back at you with his sad brown puppy eyes. Again, he seemed nervous, and anxious as he waited impatiently for your answer. You felt as if you were being pulled in two opposite directions. Your heart going one way and your brain going the other. Your eyes shifted down towards the floor. You couldn't help it. He had a really beautiful face. His dark hair was curly and grazed his shoulders. It suited him very much. Staring at his black hightop converse, you sighed. Scoffing you shook your head, upset with yourself.
"Apologize to Severus, stop calling him names, stop pranking him and other innocent people, stop bullying people in general, stop James from doing the same..." You ranted in one breath, breathing heavily as you ran a hand through your hand, frustratedly. Looking up, you look back up at Sirius, "And maybe... Maybe I'll go on that date with you." You finished quietly, looking away from him when you saw him smile. A blush formed on your cheeks before you turned around, and walked away from him.
Sirius watched as you left down the hall, watching you until you turned the corner and disappeared, leaving him standing alone in the hallway as the second bell rang. He smiled as he looked down at the velvet box in his hand before putting it in his pocket for a rainy day. Adjusting his collar, Sirius sighed, he'd have to man up and apologize to Severus. That was his only option after all.
~~~
Walking with Lily outside before school, you heard a lot of chatter, more than usual. Confused, both you and Lily gave each other a glance before you turned the corner and found Sirius standing before Severus. A circle of other students were around them as if a fight was going to break out. Looking around the circle, you noticed James, Remus, and Peter. You bit your lip, anxiety chilling you to the bone as you and Lily ran over, pushing past your peers to get inside. Lily went straight to James, slapping him on the arm as she began to scold him, while you went to stand next to Remus.
"What is he doing, Remus?" You asked, "Is he going-"
"Nothing bad, I don't think, Y/N." Remus interrupted you before glancing at you and giving you a shrug, "Sirius has been acting weird all morning." You turned back to watch Sirius and Severus. Concerned and beyond worried for your friend's safety. What was Sirius doing? Was running through your head.
"Yo!" A kid yelled from the circling crowd, "You gonna fight or what?!"
Not long after the kid's question, most of the crowd began to chant. "Fight! Fight! Fight!"
As they continued to chant, Sirius shook his head, "Shut up would you!" He turned around at the circle around him. "What is wrong with you all?"
It was deathly silent, everyone watching as Sirius stood in front of Severus and crossed his arms. Severus looked furious, glaring at Sirius, while a few kids backed away a step, before leaving entirely.
"What do you want, Black?" Severus sneered, "Haven't you tortured me enough?"
"I want to talk." He said simply. There was silence for a few moments, nobody speaking as Severus narrowed his eyes at Sirius.
"What do you mean you want to talk, Black?"
You stared at Sirius hard as he dug his heel into the grassy ground, hands deeply stuffed in his jean pockets. Taking a deep breath, he lifted his gaze towards Severus, eyes meeting the other boy's before he spoke again, his voice calm, but firm; full of conviction.
"I want to... Apologize."
There was dead silence once more. Severus glared back at him, his jaw clenching tightly. "Please, sure you do. This is just a joke, a prank." Severus spoke, sarcasm dripping from his tone.
"No, this isn't a joke." Sirius said firmly, staring at the other boy before turning back to stare at the group of students who were still gathered together in the middle of the field, "I am sorry."
Severus scoffed, shaking his head slightly, crossing his arms, "Well, I guess there's nothing left to be done about that then." With that, Severus turned, walking off as he muttered under his breath. The rest of the crowd began to disperse, dispersing into groups of friends that went inside the school. A sigh left you as you glanced over at Sirius, biting your lip.
"That was intense." Remus sighed, as Peter shrugged and left as well.
"Dude," James began, confused, "Why did you apologize to that los- Ow! I mean... That... Dude?" He asked, rubbing his arm where Lily punched him.
Sirius turned to his friends and you, "It was the right thing to do." He began as James scoffed. "Listen, we're adults. Pranking someone, bullying... It's very immature. We're better than that." Sirius stated, looking directly at James before continuing. "We're not children anymore, James. We can't act like children anymore."
James let out a breathy laugh, before glancing at you and back at Sirius, "Oh, I get it! You're whipped!" He laughed even louder this time, "Wow, mate, I thought my best friend could never love anyone that much."
"James!" Lily snapped, annoyed.
"Come on, leave them alone," Remus added.
You continued to stare at Sirius, mouth slightly agape as you tried to process what just happened. You were shocked and confused before realization dawned on you once more... Sirius was... Well, serious. He actually gave Severus an alright apology, and you understood why Severus didn't accept it. But... Maybe you were right. Maybe Sirius did change.
Running along the sidelines in your mascot suit, you hyped up the team during the before-prom game. The team was about to run in to start the game, going up against Durmstrang Institute, who had beaten your school three years in a row. But you were hopeful, for some reason.
Soon the team ran out, your school cheering as they ran in. Your eyes followed Sirius, number three, as he waved to the crowd. His eyes landed on you in your suit, giving you a personal wave before getting in position.
"Twenty-two, forty-three, seventy-five...-"
"Wait!" Sirius cried out, stopping the game before it even started. You and the crowd of students watched, perplexed as Sirius jogged over to Remus, grabbing a mic from him. Tapping the top of the mic, the sound echoed through the large speakers on the light poles of the field. You furrowed your eyebrows under the suit as you watched Sirius as he cleared his throat, "I'd like to take a moment to say something before the game," His head tilted downwards slightly, his fingers fidgeting with the edge of the microphone as he took another deep breath. "I met this girl... And she is the most amazing person I've ever met." He paused, taking a deep breath and releasing it slowly.
"She made me realize a lot of things about me and the way I run my life." He said quietly, a smile playing on his lips, causing his dimples to show. "She helped me become a better person." Your heart began to beat rapidly in your chest, a small smile appeared on your lips. Your mind began to wonder where this story was going. "And..." He breathed out, "I'd like to ask her a question." He swallowed, his face contorted by nervousness, before looking down. "Y/N… Will you go to Prom with me?" Silence filled the air as you stared at him, shock and disbelief painted across your features, ones no one could see.
Swallowing, you walked over onto the field and to Sirius. Reaching up, you pulled off the mascot's mask, revealing your beautiful face as you smiled at Sirius. "Yes," You told him, nodding your head enthusiastically.
His face instantly broke out into a smile, one that lit up his entire face as his eyes shined. Pulling you into a hug, he squeezed you as tight as he could over your mascot suit, causing the audience to cheer.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Sirius muttered in your ear, not even minding your sweaty skin and hair. "I'll buy you ice cream. And a puppy. Do you want a puppy?" You couldn't help but chuckle as you placed your hands… Paws on his chest.
"Play the game." You ordered gently before grabbing your mascot's head. "Find me after the game, I'll give you my number."
"Deal." He winked, before putting on his helmet, knocking on the side of it before running back to his spot.
You headed back to the sidelines, going back to hyping the crowd as the game began. As you did your job, you watched the game, or watched Sirius, as much as you could. Your heart was racing still from his confession and question, and you felt giddy from happiness. You couldn't wait for Prom next Friday.
"What about this one, Sev?" You asked Severus who was beside you, arms crossed as you pointed to another dress.
"I can't believe you said yes to that jerk." Severus pouted, eyes cast to the ground of the small dress shop.
You sighed, letting go of the skirt of the green dress. "You saw what he did. He apologized. I know you don't trust him, but can you please pretend to be happy for me?" You begged, stepping closer to Severus, placing your hand on his shoulder as you looked up at him.
He stared at you, looking reluctant before letting out a soft sigh and nodding his head. "Alright, alright." He grumbled, holding up his hands as you smiled and hugged him. "I am happy for you, but I hate him." He mumbled against your cheek.
You chuckled as you pulled away, placing a quick kiss on his cheek. "Thank you, Sevy." You turned back to the dresses, walking slowly down the aisle, as Severus followed. "Did you ask anyone to prom? Or has anyone asked you?" You asked as you heard Severus sigh.
"Nope." He mumbled, "Don't want to go anyway. I have too much homework to do and I'm not interested in girls." You smiled softly as he rolled his eyes.
You shook your head, "No, you're only interested in Lily." You teased, causing Severus' face to turn bright red as he stuttered for words, trying to defend himself. "You've been crushing on her since I met you." You finished with a chuckle. You stopped, hand brushing against the fabric of another dress as you frowned slightly, "I wish your friendship with her didn't fall apart. But, what you said to her, and what she said to you... It's understandable. I just wish she could see how sweet you really are."
"Yeah. Me too." Severus sighed, his arms folded over his chest, "But it hurts when someone breaks your heart."
You nodded your head in agreement before your eyes landed on a dress. Rushing over, you took Severus by surprise as you grabbed his hand and dragged him along with you.
"Look at this one." You spoke, standing in front of the dress. "What do you think?"
"Uh... It's cute. Nice color, I think." Severus stated as you nodded, staring at the dress in awe.
"I'm gonna get this one." You stated, looking at Severus with determination before grabbing the dress and rushing towards the counter, "Excuse me, miss!" You called out as Severus watched you.
Even though he hated Sirius, Severus wanted you to be happy. And if you were happy, he was happy too.
In front of your mirror, you smoothed out the glittery tulle skirt, loving the way the navy blue dress looked on you. It was an evening gown, your mother called it, with a short v-neck, and short sleeves. The skirt flowed, swayed, and when you spun, it looked like a fairy tale come to life. You looked amazing like you knew you would. Slipping on your matching ankle-boot heels, you double and triple-checked your hair, before grabbing your small purse; making sure you had your phone and keys. Stepping out of your room, you headed down the stairs, your mother waiting for you at the bottom.
You gave her a small smile before looking nervously at the phone in her hands. "Just one, mom." You begged, "One picture.
She nodded, "Of course, dear. One picture of my little princess."
You groaned softly, "Mom."
"Stand up straight, okay maybe a little pose? Oh, you look beautiful." She ignored you, ordering you around for the picture. You simply stood, hands clasped together, wanting to get it over with. Clicking the button on her screen, she sighed, staring at her phone. "Thank you, now we can wait until your date arrives for the next one."
Your eyes widened as you rapidly shook your head, "No, mom, one pic. Aka, only me. I don't want you-"
"What?" Your mother asked, raising an eyebrow, "You don't want me to embarrass you?" You bit your lip as you hesitantly nodded. "Well," Your mother began, just as the doorbell rang, "That was what I was planning to do." She teased, before leaving the room.
"Mom!" You whispered-yelled as she walked over to the door. If your hair wasn't all done, you would've ran your hands through it as you heard your mother introducing herself to Sirius. Calming your racing heart and building up nerves, you turned the corner, spotting Sirius in the entranceway of your home, talking with your mother. You watched as Sirius glanced over at you, back to your mom, before quickly looking back over at you. freezing, Sirius turned to fully look at you, mouth slightly agape as he stared at you. He looked absolutely breathtaking as always, dapper in his black suit, and little bow tie.
Suddenly, you were being pulled out of your trance by your mother, "Y/n, darling," She whispered, "Go say hello, yeah? Don't be rude."
You cleared your throat, "Uh, hi." You greeted him, as he continued to stare at you in awe.
"You look perfect." He muttered loud enough for you to hear, making your cheeks flush in surprise.
"Oh! Thanks, you look really good too. Very nice. Very good." You inwardly cringed. You wanted the ground to swallow you up.
Your mother sighed, before she nudged you towards Sirius, "You two have fun, alright? Bring her home before ten." She instructed before heading further into the house.
The awkward silence between you two only lasted a moment or two before a small smile formed on Sirius's face, "Shall we go?"
"Yeah," You replied softly, following him outside. The sun was beginning to set as you closed the door behind you. Both of you walk down the driveway to his car. You didn't want to embarrass yourself further, so you were glad the ride to the school was a short one, because soon enough, you were there.
Entering the great hall of your school, you stood looking around the room, stunned. The entire room was decorated in its winter theme, 'Winter Wonderland.' There were fake snowflakes and icicles hanging from the ceiling, some lights were hung from the wall while others were lit up with fairy lights. There were tables filled with sweets, hot chocolates, and a chocolate fountain. There was even a band, playing instrumental versions of popular songs. You were amazed.
"Wow." You breathed out, turning your head to look at Sirius, finding him already looking at you.
"Wow indeed," He grinned softly, offering you his arm, "You ready, love?"
You blushed at the sound of the nickname he gave you, shyly nodding before he led you down the stairs. On the last step, you spotted Lily, who in turn, spotted you. Letting go of Sirius, you rushed over to her, Lily doing the same, the both of you meeting in the middle.
"Look at you!" Lily gushed, holding your hands in hers as she looked at your dress.
You smiled bashfully, "Thanks. You look stunning yourself." You complimented which made her blush, giving you a toothy smile. Lily's dress was a soft royal purple, littered with gold embellishments of leaves and flowers. It was off-the-shoulder, and the skirt shape was similar to yours but reminded you more of a princess gown than anything. Out of every girl there, she was the queen.
"That's what James has been telling me all night. That boy has been practically drooling." She giggled.
You laughed quietly, shaking your head at her comment. "Isn't he always?"
Looking around the room once more, you spotted Bellatrix, surprisingly. You were beyond surprised actually, seeing her wearing 'The Black Swan' dress that you saw in the window of an expensive boutique. The skirt was black tulle, with speckles of glitter, flowing out similar to yours and Lily's. The top was a matte black fabric, overlapped with the black tulle in jagged edges. If anything, that dress was made for Bellatrix.
Taking in more of the prom, you also spotted Gilderoy. With two girls on his arm. Typical. He was almost as bad as Sirius when it came to the ladies. But, it was understandable, Gilderoy's family was pretty famous, both being writers and best sellers. Moving your eyes around more, you even spotted Lucius and Narcissa. Looking poised and elegant as always. Lucius was in an all-black suit, while Narcissa was in a beautiful silver gown, with sheer sleeves and a glittery top bodice. It really looked good on her.
As the band began to play a slower song, you felt someone tap your shoulder. Turning you found Sirius, offering his hand out to you. "Would you like to dance?" He asked, and you nodded, nervously taking his hand, hoping your hands weren't sweaty. Gripping onto his hand, you felt him tug you closer, leading you out to the dance floor. Taking your time, you took a deep breath as Sirius guided you to the beat of the music. Slowly moving your feet along the rhythm, you smiled shyly up at Sirius, falling deep into his chocolate brown pools. His hand resting respectively on your waist, his hand holding yours in the air beside you, as your arm was placed on his shoulder.
He was so close to you, you could see the freckles dotting his cheeks and nose. He smelled like peppermint and fresh cologne, making your stomach churn pleasantly. You never thought you'd go to prom with anyone in your school, let alone Sirius Black. Yet here you were. Dancing in his arms, feeling his warmth against you, his hand gently wrapped around your waist. You swore that this moment would stay forever in your mind.
"Have I told you how gorgeous you are tonight?" Sirius murmured against your ear, making shivers run up and down your spine.
Slightly pulling away from him, you looked him in the eye, "No, but thank you."
"I should be thanking you," He chuckled softly, "It doesn't take a genius to know that you look absolutely beautiful. Even in that mascot costume." He bit his lip briefly, "But, seriously-" You sputtered a small giggle, earning a grin from Sirius as he continued, "Anyway... Thank you for agreeing to go with me. I didn't think you'd say yes... But who's ever had their first date at Prom?" He shrugged a shoulder as you looked up at him with a small smile.
"Probably a lot of people." You reasoned and Sirius hummed, "I never thought my first date with you was going to be at prom, though. If we are counting this as our first date, that is." You tilted your head slightly as Sirius raised an eyebrow.
"Are you saying that I can take you out on another first date?" He asked and you chuckled lightly, eyes drifting off to look around the room.
"Well, technically that would be a second date, but yes." You stated, biting your lip.
"We'll work on it." Sirius winked, pulling you closer to him so that your chest was brushing against each other. "So, tell me about yourself, YN/." He asked, the both of you swaying side to side.
"Me?" You asked, quirking your eyebrows, "What would you like to know?"
Sirius shrugged, "Have you always wanted to be a football furry?"
You gasped, slapping Sirius lightly on his shoulder as he laughed, making you pout slightly. "That's not very nice, Sirius." You scolded, laughing out your words as you rolled your eyes. "What do you really want to know?"
Sirius's laughter slowly died down, as he gazed down at you, "Everything?" He sighed.
You hummed, glancing around the room again, noticing James and Lily dancing nearby. "Well, I love to read, and I love drawing..." You let out a breathy laugh, shaking your head, "Sorry, I can’t think of anything else at the moment." You looked back up at him.
"No worries, we have time. I mean, I'd like to have the time to get to know you, you know?"
You stared at him for a moment before speaking, "Why were you so persistent on going on a date with me, Sirius?"
"Because..." He trailed off, looking slightly embarrassed.
"Because..?" You encouraged him, urging him to continue.
His cheeks flushed, as he avoided your gaze. It wasn't like him, to feel so nervous. But with you, he never knew if he was going to say something stupid. And right now, he knew he was in trouble. Taking a deep breath, he finally looked up at you. He was still staring at you, but his dark eyes were filled with uncertainty and possible fear. You couldn't help but notice this sudden change in him. He wasn't his charming and charismatic usual self. You began to worry, were you right? Did Sirius only try and talk to you for some prank, a dare, for some sick personal gain? Maybe he did this out of spite. Maybe he just needed to find something to make fun of. Maybe you were wrong, maybe you had misunderstood everything that happened between you two. Maybe it was only a joke.
But, he had apologized to Severus. In front of a lot of people at the school. That took guts. And you knew how much Sirius cared about his ego. Maybe he did change. Maybe he realized the terrible things he did were exactly that... Terrible. You could only hope. You really liked Sirius. A lot. As much as you hated to admit it, he really meant a lot to you. So maybe you shouldn't be jumping to conclusions just yet.
"Um," Sirius cleared his throat, breaking you out of your thoughts, the slow song coming to an end. As another song began, Sirius's eyes darted around the room as you looked at him confused. "Uh, let's go get some air." He spoke, before leading you out and into the hall. You watched as he let out a breath, running a hand through his hair before he turned back to you. Taking both your hands in his, he let out another small breath, gaining his courage once more. "I was persistent because I like you."
Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "Wha- What do you mean?"
Sirius licked his bottom lip, "Ever since I saw you, on the field, taking off that mascot head... It was like my world went into slow motion. Everything about you just drew me in. And when you were talking to me, I couldn't believe this breathtaking girl was talking to me. I couldn't believe I had never seen you around the school, or during these four years. I guess I was just blind. A blind fool in love with you." He muttered lowly, his cheeks tinting pink as he glanced down at you. You didn't answer, instead opting to stare at him in surprise. It was almost unreal that he was confessing to you like this. You never thought Sirius would ever like you, especially when he had all the girls at school begging to date him. But, as Sirius continued on, your heart melted. There was something about how earnest and sweet he was being.
"Sirius..." You spoke up softly, your eyes tearing up slightly, "You make it sound like such an honor to be in love with me." You smiled weakly up at him. "But why?"
He frowned slightly, "I don't know. I just felt drawn to you. Like there was some kind of pull towards you that I couldn't ignore. I've tried but it's no use." He raised a hand to cup your cheek, "You've enchanted me. Completely."
Nodding softly, you gave him a soft smile, "Consider your feelings returned. You've completely enchanted me as well."
"Y/N..." Sirius whispered quietly, his lips curving upwards. "May I?"
Taking one step closer to him, you leaned forward, pressing your lips against his warm ones. As your lips moved together, Sirius immediately responded, deepening the kiss, his hands cupping your cheeks. His lips pressed into yours desperately, as you tangled your fingers in his black curls; they were as soft as they looked. Pulling away slightly from each other, you rested your forehead against his as you caught your breath. "You have no idea how long I waited for this," Sirius breathed, placing a chaste kiss on your forehead.
Shaking your head slightly, you giggled softly, as Sirius pulled that velvet box out of his pants pocket. The one from your locker from weeks before.
"The necklace?' You questioned, as Sirius nodded.
"Yes, I uh, thought you should have it." He smiled shyly as you opened the box and you gasped softly.
The necklace was a silver paw print, on a simple silver chain. You placed a hand on your cheek before you picked up the necklace from the box.
"It's beautiful..." You sighed, looking up at Sirius, "This reminded you of me?" You asked and he nodded, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Yeah, since you are the mascot, and you know, that's where I first met you... When you were in that costume... I don't know... I saw it and thought of you." He explained, causing your heart to swell.
"Thank you, Sirius." You shyly spoke, before offering him the necklace, "Mind helping me put it on?" You asked and Sirius gently took the necklace from you as you turned around. Carefully unclasping it, you moved your hair as he brought the necklace around your neck, clipping it closed. The cool metal warmed your bare skin as you turned back around, looking down at the necklace and back up at him.
"How does it look?" You heard him ask quietly.
"Beautiful. Almost as beautiful as you." Sirius said simply, smiling at you.
And just like that, you had fallen in love. All you wanted to do was keep this feeling with you forever. And the way Sirius was looking at you, you knew he felt the same way too.
