June 23 2011. The chick slept near the food and water that I've put on the floor of this "temporarily henhouse" room. The pidge behaved calmly, though the chick was still a bit afraid, remembering yesterday's pecking.

4th July 2023: Lakeside and home

Photos taken in this set: 1, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Views on my walk at Lakeside at lunch time. 2. Great Crested Grebes and chicks, I got great views of both families again. I have been extremely lucky with both the dancing adults and chicks with the grebes this year to have a knack of passing the lakes when there birds are in fairly close view this year compared to past years which has led to a big pool of photos this year which I am pleased with. 3. Flowers at Lakeside, possible alfalfa. 4. A couple of Magpies out the back. 5. An adorable fluffy young Greenfinch that I was delighted to see at Lakeside, I don't think I've ever seen a young one of this bird I am fond of before so I was excited to see this. 6. Nearby to the Greenfinch, one of a couple of young Goldfinches I enjoyed in a bushy area which was great to see I'm not used to seeing these away from the garden/balcony really so it was great to see this spotty beauty.

Chiffchaff, Great Tit, young Robin I believe too, Dunnock and possible Wren were other additions on a great list of different birds I saw at Lakeside this lunch time, with Stock Dove seen for a third lunch time walk running and Moorhen, Blackbird and Meadow Brown and Gatekeeper butterflies enjoyed too. I was also really pleased to see at least one maybe two or even three Sparrowhawks soaring over the lakes (I was watching one in one direction and lost it then all of a sudden saw another chasing another when I turned round that I couldn't quite tell what it was). It was a pleasure to watch this exciting and slender raptor soar over. The first bird of prey I ever saw as a child and I am fond of them and always enjoy seeing them. House Sparrow, Starling including young and Woodpigeon steadfast in it's spot on a roof out the back as the rain heavy at times lashed down were other key birds seen at home today. Other key flowers at Lakeside were purple loosestrife one I love seeing, great willowherb, pineappleweed, St. John's-wort, bindweed including mixing with bird's-foot trefoil on the grass north of Lakeside, carrot on a bush there too, thistle enjoyed again especially creeping thistle, agrimony, wild parsnip, self-heal and pyramidal orchid.

The Immature Cardinals are Adorable and Fun to Watch features a young male cardinal fledgling. He was brought to a feeding station by his father and showed watchers some entertaining personality.

Anticipation Last Saturday Poppa cardinal brought one of the fledglings from his first clutch with him to the feeding station. I hadn’t seen this little guy before, but I suspect he had been coming for a little while because he was past the point of asking Poppa to feed him. He watched me very closely while I put out the day’s offerings, and was pretty quickly out of the tree and into the feed.…
