friend, you do realise that no mater how vocal you are about disliking kylie it still isn’t gonna change the fact that timmy and kylie are seeing each other right???? like there NOTHING any of us can do about it because it’s his decision, pr or not, he CHOSED her. so pls stop body shamming/slut shamming or calling her all kinds of vile names it sounds a little misogynist!
Alright, here we go.
Me being vocal about my dislike of her is for two reasons. Firstly, I don’t want her fans interacting with my blog, I don’t want people who support her or think their relationship is “omg so cute!” interacting with my blog, etc etc. Second, I’m venting to people who share my feelings. I know I can’t do anything about it, yeah. I am fully cognizant of the fact that he will never see my blog in a million years (actually, I suspect you either don’t follow me or don’t know me very well, because if you did either, you would know that the last fucking thing I want is any level of interaction with that man, I don’t even follow him on Instagram for god’s sake, interacting with him is something I have had actual nightmares about). That is desirable for me. If I found out he had a Tumblr, I’d block him faster than you can say “not today, Satan.” That doesn’t mean I’m not allowed to voice my opinions on my own blog, though, does it? If you’d rather not see my opinions, well… you can just block me, y’know.
Yeah, he chose to be with her. His decisions are stupid. I support his right to make his own decisions, yeah, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going to say that they’re stupid when I think they’re stupid. Supporting someone’s right to make stupid decisions doesn’t mean I am obligated to support those decisions, nor does it mean I’m not allowed to say as much.
Have I slut shamed her? If I have, I’m sorry; I don’t think she’s someone who sleeps around, based on what I know of her. It seems like she prefers serious relationships. Not that there’d be any issue with her sleeping around, mind you. As long as all parties know what’s going on and no one is being unsafe or harming anyone, I have no issue with that. And for the record, I don’t blame her for wanting to date and presumably bang Tim. Obviously she does. She’s got eyes, after all, doesn’t she? I don’t blame her for that, and I don’t take issue with her choosing to do that since he gave her the opportunity to do so. What’s she gonna do, say no? Obviously not. No, I don’t blame her for that. That’s not shitty, that’s a perfectly normal reaction to Timothée being down to date and/or fuck her. I blame her for all the shitty things she’s done, continues to do, and is complicit in.
As for the body shaming, I can see how you might feel I had done that. That was never my intention, though. My issues with her appearance do indeed exist, because of the harmful beauty standards she puts on young girls—young girls who looked like her before she had all that surgery, young girls who are still growing, like her daughter, for example—and the idea that in order to be beautiful, one has to look a specific way, be a certain level of tan when their skin isn’t naturally that dark (which is a whole other issue, believe you me), have the right facial features, the right size boobs and butt, the right size waist, a flat stomach, the list goes on and on and on. I also take issue with the fact that she lies about those things.
I support women and their rights to make decisions about their bodies. But—and this is very important, anon—what we must keep in mind is that she is not a normal woman. She is one of the most famous people in the world. She may not have chosen to get famous as a child, but she did choose to continue that fame once she reached adulthood. And to be as famous as she us and also be as blatantly shitty as she’s being… yeah, sorry, I’m gonna call her out on it on my blog, and if anybody takes issue with that, idk what to tell ya. Sounds like a you problem.

Long Beach California. Summer ,2012.
she didn’t know then but it’d be the worst summer of her life. The summer she’d find out that boys aren’t mean to girls because they like them, boys are just mean to girls. this was the summer Paris found herself thinking she’d fell in love with the boy of her dreams. Only to find out the whole town was dreaming about him or at least that’s what it felt like. She was torn, her first “love” had been a sham. From then on she deemed love as simply a social construct.

University of San Diego California, Winter 2017
Now a college student, Paris had navigated into adulthood and was handling her own…with her parents help, of course. She lived comfortably, just miles away from the university in her parent’s vacation home. It was only after walking in on her father and her Women’s Studies professor having what looked and sounded like the most passionate sex of their lives that Paris had given up all hope that loyalty and true romance exist. Not only had this been the worst betrayal she’d faced in her life, but overwhelming the most embarrassing experience she’d ever faced in her college career. Not only had her professor mysteriously disappear, but news of her parents divorce spread like wildfire leaving her mother in shambles and herself and older siblings left to pick up the pieces.

Paris and Company
has since recovered tremendously from their family’s “tragedy of 2017”, as her mother refers to it. After taking time off school, with the support of her mother, Paris was able to get through her remaining years, while maintaining top of the class she was able to graduate from the University of San Diego with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. The only thing young Paris would have to say about present day Paris is that she’s a hard working, big spending, wild child, you can practically find her day drinking on the way to class. Now that she’s finished with undergrad she’s on to bigger and better adventures and experiences.

OPEN CASTING CALL FOR STARGAZE: “THE PILOT” EPISODE & TRAILER VISIT: https://stargazetheseries.com/casting-call/ FOR DETAILS OR READ BELOW: A Borken Creative Production Sept 27, 2021 STARGAZE is a queer campy sci-fi adventure short-form adventure series intended for OTT. Executive Producers: Jill Golick, Carrie Cutforth Director: Regan Latimer Writer: Carrie Cutforth Union: ACTRA TORONTO (NEW MEDIA) Shoot: The pilot will begin shooting for 5 to 6 days between October 25-Nov 17th, 2021 Location: Toronto STORYLINE: A disparate group of rookie oddballs join an elite squad commissioned to save the Queerverse (from itself) only to discover the STARGAZE program is a sham make-work initiative to keep the crew from rocking the boat by sending them out on a fool’s quest (led by two elder queer chaperones who despise each other). Think: A 2SLGBTQIA+ The Facts Of Life meets The Breakfast Club in space! *BIPOC STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY **MUST BE 18+ TO SUBMIT EVEN IF CHARACTER IS LISTED AS YOUNGER THE STARTGAZE RECRUITS: SAF RON (she/her): Character is 20, cisgender woman, lesbian, open to all ethnicities; some physical comedy required. LEAD. Mad as hell and not going to take it anymore, Saf joins STARGAZE with high expectations. If the adults won’t save the day, she will… and finally get the credit she deserves! But can this lone wolf learn to connect with others, stop being a control freak, relax her unreasonably high expectations of others (and herself), and step into the leadership role for which she is destined? First, she’ll have to stop seeing anyone getting in her way as a mustache-twirling villain, learn to see her crewmates’ value, accept help, and open herself up vulnerably. Gets apoplectic when mad; Has a knack for creating very convoluted protest chants that no one can follow. WHIT SPRINKLES (he/him): Character is 19, cisgender man, gay, open to all ethnicities. Must be able to walk elegantly in high heels. LEAD. A social media influencer famous for his snarky and bitter ’reads,’ charismatic Whit has developed a parasocial relationship with his stans. Living life performing in the spotlight from a very young age, Whit has no idea who he really is, what his real interests are, or his beliefs outside of what his analytics tell him: “My fans are gonna love this!” Only joining STARGAZE under pressure from his stans, his inability to forge true intimate connections is exacerbated by his relationship with his mother/manager Mumsy Sprinkles, a talentless hack/narcissistic stage mother living her dreams through her kid. If Whit was a meme he would be: ‘Bitch, I dun give a fuck!’ But he does, indeed, give a fuck. ESSA T. HATCH (they/them): Character is 18, non-binary or agender, asexual, demiromantic, neurodivergent, open to all ethnicities. LEAD. Adorkable Essa is an introvert who doesn’t really ‘get’ people. The explorer among the crew with an engineering mind and a love of mapping places and spaces, they know every nook and cranny of the ship and are usually the first to forge ahead (i.e. wander off) on every expedition. Essa mostly wants to be left alone to their own devices because they actually prefer their own company (neurotypicals can be so exhausting!). This normally wouldn’t be such a problem except Essa was pressured to join STARGAZE to make friends and widen their social net out of parental concern (‘We won’t be around forever, Essa!’). Loves to knit, make Venn diagrams of relationships; speaks in emojis when emotionally drained. LEW D’SHUS (he/him): Character is 21, transgender man or transmasculine, pansexual, open to all ethnicities. LEAD. When babelicious Lew looks at you with his rapt attention and dreamy eyes, you feel like the only person in the ‘verse until his short attention span snaps away and he forgets you’re there. “Good vibes, only!” Lew will gladly give you your Tarot card reading, but not before taking the negative cards out first. With his strict ‘the universe is love, we are love,’ mantra, Lew never wants anyone to feel bad even when they are deadass wrong! His philosophy of
appeasement can cause conflict amongst the crew and his inability to take sides in crucial moments will often put them in danger. No, we cannot just hug everything out, Lew! CHRYSTRAH SNU (she/her): Character is 17 (must be 18+ to apply), cis-gender woman, identifies as ‘queer’ but just figuring it all out. LEAD. Chrystrah is a fresh-off-the-belt queer who has arrived with big expectations: ‘I’m here, I’m queer! Direct me to my spot on the rainbow carpet!’ The trauma of her homophobic upbringing has left Chrystrah without any real sense of self; her identity loosely held together like a fragile cracked egg. Any criticism, no matter how gentle, feels like an attack, causing Chrystrah to act abrasive, territorial, and defensive. She is always overcompensating in big bombastic ways because she feels so inadequate for not knowing the right words, behaviours, and codes. She is jealous of Saf (some might say obsessed) who does seem to get it all right. Fiercely loyal, Chrystrah is the first to run headlong into danger to save someone. She has a steep learning curve ahead. THE ELDER QUEER CHAPERONES: BAE TORGA (she/her): Character is late 30’s-early 40’s, cisgender woman, bisexual, bipolar, open to all ethnicities. PRINCIPAL. A war hero (or war criminal depending on who you ask), Bae sees STARGAZE as an opportunity to redeem herself in the eyes of former mentor and friend Oracle Cain. She is someone who struggles with self-loathing and self-doubt even though she’s spent her adulthood righting her past wrongs and reining in her bipolar disorder, which contributed to her past rash and reckless mistakes. Possessing a tough, gruff demeanor, Bae is outwardly sardonic but really a bleeding heart who holds back out of fear that any demonstration of affection and empathy will be seen as a commitment. ORACLE CAIN (she/her): Character is middle-aged or older, transgender woman, ambulatory wheelchair user or wheelchair user, open to all ethnicities. *Note, as this is sci-fi, younger than middle age may apply. PRINCIPAL. A founding figure of the Queerverse, Oracle has done her service, done her duty, and now she’s done. She wants a peaceful existence to guard her limited energy and manage her physical pain. Instead, she’s pulled out of retirement to command a ship full of bickering youths. She also has to contend with spoiled brat and former colleague Bae reminding her of the past that Oracle is trying hard to forget. But duty is duty and it’s not like complaining ever got her anywhere. Talking to Oracle can feel like playing a chess game where the aloof commander is always five steps ahead: you never quite know where you stand with her. ADDITIONAL CHARACTERS ELP WHIPP (they/them or xe/xem): Character is middle-aged or older, gender-fluid, open to all ethnicities. Leader of the coalition of non-profit planets (each with its own conflicting Gay Agenda) that rule the Queerverse, Elp Whipp is a career bureaucrat/bean-counter who often gets caught in the trappings of their own political web — meaning much of nothing ever gets accomplished and progress is never made. Elp will appear throughout the series in that ‘Dean of the school’ role, occasionally showing up to demand overdue reports, warn the crew that their funding is at risk, and generally throw a wrench in the works. CARDIGAN JACK (she/her): Character is 30s, cis-woman, lesbian, open to all ethnicities. Cardigan Jack is a ‘pussy-hat’ wearing neo-liberalist feminist with a pirate vibe. She is the ‘Live, Laugh, Love’ of TERFs, and Saf Ron’s nemesis. TO SUBMIT: Borken Creative is committed to diverse and inclusive casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers without regard to disability, race, age, colour, sexual orientation or gender identity, or any other basis prohibited by law, unless otherwise specifically indicated, subject to legitimate casting directives. DEADLINE: Oct 8, 2021 EMAIL: [email protected]. SUBJECT LINE: Character(s) Role, Performer’s First and Last Name, pronouns. BODY OF EMAIL: Please provide contact info including phone number.
Please confirm you are 18 or over in the body of email if applying for a Stargaze recruit character. Submit headshot and resume as attachments to [email protected]. Resume should be in a scannable text file format (such as .doc, .pdf, .txt). First round selects will be invited to submit either a video clip audition or zoom audition invite. Only successful candidates will be contacted.

Combat Baby
A/N  If I’m going to post a Jamie POV chapter, it’s only fair that I post a Claire POV chapter as well, right?  This is a pre-quel to the Metric Universe, set shortly before The Beginning.  All other parts of the Metric Universe are available on my AO3 page.
The song by Metric that inspired the title and a few lines is here.
The emotional whiplash made her ears buzz with static.  This morning, she had been Claire Beauchamp, A&E nurse and girlfriend of Frank Randall.  Tonight, she was Claire Beauchamp, unemployed homewrecker.
More than the violent fracture that sundered her relationship into two (or was it three?) crippled pieces, more than the indignity of having her personal drama exposed to the hospital administrators, even more than finding herself suddenly homeless with a cheque for four weeks’ severance lying wrinkled in the pocket of her purse, the cut that stung the most was her utter lack of judgment.  How could she have been so blindly misled?
She’d met Frank at work.  He was a gifted surgeon at University College Hospital, urbane and grounded in a way that promised to anchor her in an adulthood that still fit like a borrowed shoe.  His pursuit felt like a badge of merit and an easy detour around the chaotic dating scene her fellow twenty-somethings frequented.  Within three weeks they were sleeping together, and only two months later she was moving the three boxes and two suitcases that represented the entirety of her worldly possessions into his Fitzrovia flat.  It had been easy.  It had been comfortable.  It had been an utter sham.
Sleeping off a series of night shifts in the skim milk light flooding their king-sized bed, she’d woken to the sound of a key in the door.  Frank was away, attending one of the medical symposiums at which he was frequently asked to present.  She barely had time to sit up in the luxurious linens before a small, dark-haired woman flew into the room.
“Where is he?” the intruder yelled.
“I beg your pardon?” Claire replied, pulling the duvet towards her neck defensively.  “I don’t... get out of my flat!  At once!”
“Your flat?”  The woman cackled like this was the best joke she’d ever heard, all while opening the doors to the closet, peering into the ensuite bathroom.  “Your flat?!  This flat than doesn’t belong to you any more than that bastard does.  You’ve got a nerve, you fucking whore!”
“I... there’s been some mistake.  You need to leave.  I don’t know who you think I am, but I can assure you this is my home.  I live here with my boyfriend...”
“Frank Randall,” the woman interrupted with a cruel twist of her lips. “You selfish, stupid girl, you have no idea what you’ve done, do you?”
Claire could feel her body start to shake, an earthquake of realization spreading from her limbs to her brain.  She’d never met this woman before, but she had one thing right: she was a very selfish, stupid girl.
The story that emerged had the sordid intricacy of a soap opera.  The woman, Amelia Randall, had been married to Frank for nearly ten years.  They’d met at Oxford.  When his job took him to London, she’d stayed behind in Oxfordshire, where Frank visited as often as his brilliant career allowed.   Amelia had known he was unfaithful, of course, and had chosen to remain married to him, dishonourable man that he was.  But when word reached her that he was actually living with one of his young mistresses, an invisible line had been crossed.
“I don’t care for my own sake.  He can fuck whoever he wants.  But I have children to think of, and I’ll be damned if you get your claws on their inheritance...”
Children.  Frank had children.  Small people who looked forward to his visits, briefcase stuffed with toys or special treats.  Little rosebud lips that called him Daddy.
“I’m sorry,” she croaked into the duvet, now twisted tightly in her fists as she rocked senseless back and forth.  “I didn’t know.  I’m so sorry.”
***
She had no recollection of how she came to be at the hospital.  There was a swirling black fog that threatened to pull her down into a hellscape that lived in the corners of her memory.  It sucked the air from her throat and replaced it with burning acid, the taste of bile painting the back of her tongue.
She had one coherent thought - she wasn’t going quietly.  If the perfect world she had assembled turned out to be nothing more than smoke and mirrors, then she was laying waste to it with her own hands.
Frank’s car, a vintage burgundy Aston Martin, was parked in his reserved space in the doctor’s lot.  Popping open the boot, she grabbed the tyre iron, and then she began to swing.  She didn’t stop until two security guards dragged her away, her feet scuffing and kicking the floor and every vulgar word in her extensive vocabulary echoing off the concrete ceiling of the car-park.
***
It took the head nurse less than thirty minutes to obtain and print her letter of severance.  In that same time Claire slowly drifted back into herself.  She was appalled at her actions, but the damage was done.  There was a small kernel of satisfaction in imagining Frank’s face when he caught sight of his beloved car.
Leaving the hospital, she wandered aimlessly amidst the bright bustle of London in springtime.  She found herself at the London Zoo.  Sitting on a bench watching the lions pace relentlessly in their fabricated environment, she finally broke down.  She sobbed bitterly until her brow felt like iron and her guts like sand.
Eventually, she opened her phone and scrolled through her contacts.  She had a small circle of acquaintance in London, but they all knew Frank.  Her family was all dead.  Childhood friends were scattered about the globe.  She hesitated over one name: Geillis Duncan.  They had been good friends in nursing school, but hadn’t kept in touch over the past two years.  Geillis had never met Frank.  She was a feisty and outspoken Scot with a personality as large as her carefully disguised generous heart.  Claire closed her eyes and dialed.
***
“Ye ken ye can stay as long as ye need, Claire.  The spare room is yers.”
She’d returned to Frank’s flat only long enough to stuff her clothes and a few precious objects into her suitcases, then taken the Tube to Spittalfields, a gritty neighbourhood as far from Fitzrovia as the moon.  Geillis had welcomed her with open arms and a full bottle of whisky, which they were steadily emptying as Claire spilled her story all over the well-worn pine floors.
“Thanks, Geil, but it’s just for a few days.  Just until I figure out what to do with myself.”  She was already slurring her words, the combination of lack of sleep, no food and strong liquor hitting her square between her golden eyes.
“Nae rush.  I cannae believe ye took an iron tae that bawbag’s car, ye wee fierce thing.  I wouldna want tae fight you.”
They lapsed into silence.  Claire’s mind was a rushing torrent, with images and thoughts slipping from view before she could grasp onto them.  She kept hearing Amelia Randall’s voice, laced with pity.  You selfish, stupid girl.  She’d been so certain she knew who she was, but now everything was tainted with doubt.  It would take time and distance to find herself again; to excavate down to her bones, where everything was true.  She would throw her youthful self on the pyre of redemption, and stand by while it burned.  It was what she deserved.
“I know what I’m going to do,” she announced out loud, half-forgetting Geillis sat nearby.
“Wha’s that, hen?” her friend asked.
“I’m going to volunteer.  As a combat nurse.  In Afghanistan.”

I don’t think you needed me after all.
This afternoon, much like most afternoons as of late, I woke up with a million and one thoughts zipping around my skull like a subpar, anxiety-inducing pinball machine. Granted, most them aren't really worth the notion of being anything more than a fleeting idea. In fact, a lot of them derive from the most peculiar pinpoints of my life up until now - events or moments I probably should have forgotten (because I doubt anyone else present still thinks about it), though they always find their time to drip into my thought stream.
Today, the star of The Ponder Show (coming to you live from my cranium), was a young Chinese girl from my high school. I never knew her name, or perhaps I did for a while but I forgot. She wasn't in my year group. I believe she may have been two years below me. We never spoke. She was not my friend. Yet, frequently I would see her skulking around hallways - backpack strapped tight enough to wrinkle the ugly blazer which was the centrepiece of our tasteless school uniform. Usually engrossed in a graphic novel of some sort; it was in these moments where I believe I saw her for who she truly was, and she seemed very content with her own company. But, of course, this occurrence took place in a British secondary school circa 2015, so the serenity never lasted long. A tidal wave of pubescent rage and toxic masculinity brought boisterous bullies barrelling down the hallways to torment their ‘ch*nk girlfriend’ - offering her false promises of friendship and connection just so they could experience an empty sense of power over another person for a couple of seconds before class, before being under the ‘watchful eye’ of a teacher. The worst part? She believed it all. Or she seemed to. When they teased her with their ‘date proposals’, her skin would glow with glee. When they told her she was the prettiest girl they had ever seen, she would bask in their forgery. And as somebody that frequented as a victim in the same types of ridicule, I would watch on in mute horror; calves burning with the urge to storm over and say something, anything, to make them stop. Because I knew that even if she believed them then, there would come a point soon where she would see a glitch in their cruel matrix - a cackle hidden behind a phone camera, a slur buried within the sham, a clear warning in a sea of subtlety. A catalyst for an adulthood full of self-shaming paranoia and inability to trust a compliment. It had taken me far too long for me to realise it for myself - because whilst I wanted to believe that these people would peak in high school, I still felt a harrowing inclination to credit them for the complexities of their under-the-radar intimidation towards me, their ability to make me feel so insignificant even when their words would appear as friendly to a passing listener.  It took me even longer to realise, as a fresh adult, that not everybody reacts to the tyranny of high school oppressors in the same way. As I continually flipped this recollection in every possible angle, something became very apparent to me. This girl, more than likely, knew all along what they were attempting to do to her. She never needed any protection from this thicket of idiots, let alone mine. Time and time again, she chose to hear her own version of their backhanded compliments, in the comfort of her own brain. Her brain: a place where she could truly feel beautiful, a tower in which she could look far out, to pity the hoard of fools who never realised their words could be taken at face value. This girl had a formidable power over them - one that meant their mechanical, tedious hidden meanings would forever remain hidden in her eyes. I hope with all of my being that this power of hers only intensified over the years. The glint in her eye always suggested that it would.

On the verge of completing a cure that would see to the end of many common ailments, Alchemist Izuku Midoriya grows desperate at the realization that he is missing a key ingredient to his brew.
However the blanket of night looms overhead, promising trouble to any who would dare venture out into the deadened woods at these hours. Many travelers have lost their lives braving the dangers of the forest, but it's a risk that Izuku must take, as the concoction would be unusable by the crack of dawn.
Yet the forest was never supposed to hold Werewolves.
Sorely unprepared for a run-in with the Alpha of a desperate pack, Izuku is captured, and held hostage within their ranks. In the midst of a clan afflicted with illness and death, Midoriya must survive the temperament of clan leader Bakugo Katuski, while attempting to find a cure for their affliction.
Easier said than done.

Little red riding hood

Juggernaut by warschach  ( E | 19,357+ | 4/? )
What had four legs, a tail, fur all over, and went 'woof woof' in the dead of night?
Katsuki's soulmate, Izuku Midoriya, the werewolf.
Which is funny-if you're fucked up in the head and you're going to get real fast why Katsuki was a special Frosted Flakes brand of 'fucked'- because Katsuki's profession clocked out monsters' time card early.
It should be fine.
Narrator: It was, in fact, not fine.
(or Katsuki meets his soulmate at the worst time and under the worst circumstances, tries to deny his feelings while battling monsters, attending class-yea,no-, and trying to piece together the giant gaps in his past. so adulthood except everything does want to kill him.)
[ Graphic Depictions of Violence | Underage ]
Friction by warschach  ( M | 20,057 | 3/5 )
Izuku's getting married today.

Supernatural beings, termed occults, haunt the land in search for human victims for their consumption. The surviving human race, having splintered into numerous settlements across the land, struggle in a never-ending war to keep the occults at bay and to ultimately eradicate the fiends.

Izuku had gotten himself into many messes over the years. He’d once got stuck in the back of a restaurant after hours because he’d been too shy to ask someone to let him out of the staff bathroom he’d locked himself into. Or that time he got stuck on a roof of a house saving a random cat for some little girl’s sake. Or when his mom left him home alone for the first time and he invited four neighborhood stray dogs into the house and they’d made a mess out of everything. Come to think of it, most of his messes involved animals. Comically he thinks, this is no different.

3) He would most assuredly be hunted and killed if a predator Were found him out.

The great dragon Katsuki had spent the past few centuries cultivating his reputation as the fearless ‘Beast of the Western Lands’. Everywhere he goes, he leaves a trail of fire and ash in his wake. But soon his life of treasure hoarding and raiding villages doesn’t seem as fulfilling as it used to be. Was it time for him to settle down, make himself a permanent home and start living a more peaceful and humble life?
Naturally, Katsuki decided that the ‘next step’ in his life was to build himself a grand temple next to Musutafu, the biggest village in the Western Lands. The humans would learn to worship him eventually.
The tree spirit Izuku- an actual deity and self-proclaimed protector of Musutafu- takes issue with this.

Izuku is in his twenties now and he no longer runs to meet with the childhood friend who pushed him away so long ago. His mother and their village are on edge because he's way past his presenting years and he still hasn't had his first heat. He's defective. An omega who can't present can't find a mate or have kids, not like he's ever been inclined to find someone or have children. After leaving the confines of his small minded human village and wandering out into the woods once again, in search of a better life, that all changes when he runs into the one person he hoped to meet but never thought he'd see again.

Time always was a blurry conception made by humans. It implied a race against time. It implied choices and pressure. However for those whose Time had no impact on, it felt like languorous torture. Where you try to find an objective of your own, either be it dying or playing, but grow quickly bored from it.
Katsuki (to become Bakugo) was in search for recognition, power and chaos.
Deku (to become Izuku Midoriya) was in search for redemption, acceptance and comprehension.
And together, they fell.

Note
I saw your ask talking about the torture apologia in thriller through assassins and I was wondering cause I have a character who from a very, very young age was taught to be that assassin and was punished with pain/lack of food/isolation for the smallest demeanours, I'm not sure if it counts as torture exactly due to the political aspect of torture as a whole, but would she more likely think this was normal and gradually learn it wasn't or would she need to be exposed to the idea that it wasn't?
(Assassin anon) if she does learn it herself as opposed to being exposed to it, what age is this likely to happen? I also just want to clarify, I don't want her staying with the group doing it cause I know torture doesn't gain loyalty at all, I just want to make sure the way she grows into the knowledge that what's happening to her isn't normal is done correctly and as realistically as I can
Legallyspeaking this would be abuse not torture. But make no mistake whatyou’re describing is child abuse and it is incredibly harmful.
Itwould have a drastic effect on the character, effects which wouldmake the character much less effective as an assassin.
I-know this isn’t exactly what you asked, and I will answer yourquestion. But I get so many story ideas pitched here that assume thiskind of set up is harmless. I don’t think you’re making thatassumption but I feel I wouldn’t be doing my job properly if Ididn’t talk about the damage this kind of abuse would cause.
Asidefrom anything else I think it’s important to be clear on the kindof damage these scenarios would cause. Because as an author it’sreally easy to acknowledge something is harmful but misjudge whatkinds of injuries or long term problems it can cause.
Childabuse, especially the kinds you’ve chosen for this story, causes alot of long term physical and psychological problems. And they’reproblems that would have a knock on effect on the character’sabilities as an assassin.
Starvationat a young age can stunt growth. It can result in weaker bones. Itleads to a lot more illness in childhood. A pattern of regularstarvation at a young age can lead to significant weight gain laterin life (which I’m including because depending on the setting itcould effect an assassin’s ability to blend in).
Italso reduces a child’s ability to learn. It reduces concentrationand motivation, produces depressive symptoms and agitation.
Dependingon how severe the starvation is and how regular the periods ofstarvation are it could lead to a permanent drop in intelligence-brain damage. It can also lead to mental health problems like anxietyand depression.
Starvationis incredibly dangerous for anyone, but it’s particularly dangerousfor children.
Solitaryconfinement, or isolation, is also particularly damaging forchildren.
There’sless research on solitary confinement in children. Most of theresearch is in adults. But everything we do know strongly suggeststhat the effects on children, especiallyyounger children, are much more severe.
It’snot clear exactly what causes the physical symptoms of solitaryconfinement. Some of them could be down to poor cell conditions. Eyeproblems could be down to poor cell conditions. Lack of energy andinsomnia seem to be possible regardless. All of these could causelong term problems for an assassin.
Fora child in particular the chances of long term problems socialisingare particularly high. Solitary causes significant problemssocialising in adults and in children, who are still learning how tosocialise, it can produce life long isolation because they neverlearn to socialise.
Thatin turn has knock on effects making depression, self harm and lowself esteem incredibly likely in the long term.
That’sin addition to the other mental health problems that solitaryconfinement causes. And repeated bouts of solitary confinement wouldexacerbate those previous symptoms. So you’ve got a situation wherethe character’s mental health problems would just keep piling up.Because each of the punishments would cause serious mental healthproblems and solitary would make each of those worse.
AndI think that brings us back to the question, thank you for bearingwith me through that. :)
HonestlyI think this depends on the way you’ve set up the story. Dependingon how much contact the character has with people outside theassassin-organisation she could work out that this isn’t ‘normal’or she might need to be outright told.
Itcould also vary depending on how other children being trained aretreated.
Childrenare very good at spotting unfair treatment even if they’re notalways very good at expressing why it’s unfair. But that doesinvolve being able to see that other people are treated differently.
Ifthe character isable to see what normal life looks like from a young age then shewould probably realise early on that she’s being treated badly.Anecdotally I’ve read a few accounts from people who were abused aschildren recalling that it was when they started going to school, socialising with other children their own age without their parentsaround, that they realised their experience wasn’t ‘normal’.
Fromeverything you’ve said I doubt this character is going to amainstream school. Is there an equivalent, regular opportunity forher to social with people outside the assassin-group at a young age?
Dependingon how you’re picturing the training regime and raising of thesechildren she might be able to reach the same realisation based onother children within the group. If the children are raisedcommunally as a group and are all treated equally badly then I don’tthink that would be possible. But if it’s more akin to them eachbeing put with a particular teacher/parent figure and each child’straining regime is controlled by one or two adults with significantvariations- Then I think you could easily have the character realisethat most of the others aren’t starved, those children aren’tlocked up alone, a few children aren’t even beaten.
Ineither of these scenarios I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable tohave the character realising things are different for her at 4-5years old.
Ifshe’s kept isolated from the outside world and the other childrenare treated just as badly then I think it could take significantlylonger for her the realise her experience isn’t normal.
Theeasiest way to bring about that realisation would probably be as partof any training to ‘blend in’ with larger society. When hertraining gets to a point where she needsto know how to sham ‘correct’ social behaviour or at leastobserve her targets then she’s going to encounter relationshipsthat aren’t abusive.
Itwould probably take a pattern of repeated observation for her torealise that her experience is the aberration. But the exact age thisis likely to take place at would depend on how you’re picturing hertraining regime and the kind of age these assassins are allowed outinto the wider world.
Now,I’m not entirely sure if this has addressed your question, becausethere seems to be an element of spontaneous realisation with nooutside input versus overt exposure. I’m not sure those aremutually exclusive.
Idon’t think she could function as an assassin completely isolatedfrom outside society. Which means that the question isn’t whethershe’s exposed to other ways of living but when.
Idon’t think that someone truly and completely isolated from otherways of living would realise that abuse wasn’t normal. I thinkthey’d know it was wrong and unfair and harmful but those aren’tthe same thing. And that doesn’t seem to be what’s going on here.
SoI think you’ve got some room to decide what age the character comesto this realisation based on what age she’s exposed to- wellnon-abusive relationships. And I think the realisation can be aspontaneous thing that grows in response to that exposure.
Havinga character bluntly tell her that her relationships were all abusive-based on anecdotes and personal experience I’d say this is aterrible way to try and reach someone in that situation. It mostcommonly seems to produce a knee-jerk defence of the relationships.
Itcouldlead to her eventually accepting that these relationships areabusive, years later. But in the short term, most people are morelikely to knuckle down, to get defensive, to deny. Even if sherecognises that the relationship is bad. It’s a sort of ‘it’sbad but it’s not that’.
Tohave a blunt declaration like this reach her I think you’d need todo a lot of groundwork to establish the character is already most ofthe way to reaching that realisation herself.
Dependingon the broader situation and exposure to outside cultures/familyunits you really could pick almost any age. I think the youngest agesyou could reasonably use is 4-5 years old. While she could stillreach the realisation as an adult I think the further into adulthoodshe is, the more entrenched in the assassin-group she is the lesslikely she is to leave.
Becauseleaving these kinds of situations means rejecting her entire socialcircle. It means isolation. It means the rejection of routine andeverything she’s come to rely on. Which is difficult at any age butas an adult in her 30s, 40s etc I think she’s more likely tobelieve she’d be incapable of establishing relationships outside ofher group. That’s not true, but the longer she remains isolatedfrom relationships outside the group the more likely it is thatshe’ll believe she’s incapable of starting over.
Especiallybecause these sorts of isolated groups tend to try and teach membersthat they won’t be accepted elsewhere, it’s part of how they keeppeople in the group.
Youmight also find it useful to look up interviews with people who leftcults. I have a few saved that might help as a starting point. Thisone was an American ‘homeschool’ community.Thisone is a South Korean cult and the interviewee lost contact with herfamily because of the cult.
Beyondthat, you might want to have a look at Scripttraumasurvivors posts onchild abuse.
ReclaimingDreams and the war child site generally could be relevant. There’salso a practical guide to reintegrating child soldiers into societythat could be useful to you here.
Ihope that helps. :)

Sing me a song, o muse, of your bitter hatred against catcher in the rye bc SAME
Oooooh boy, I smell one of my long winded rants coming on. Strap in folks its about to be a wild ride.
So, Ima preface this by saying that I have NOT read it since I was forced to read it in 11th grade. For like, several fucking reasons. (the primary one being that I don’t want to, the 2nd one being I don’t know which bookshelf my dad stashed my copy on. He stashed all my required readings on various bookshelves after I was done with them. Because we were all given copies for free by the teachers that we were allowed to keep. I’ll chalk this up to private school benefits I guess? I’ve been out of the public school circuit since the end of 5th grade) So basically my memory of like, most of the events that take place in the book are foggy at best and unremembered at worst.
@ my mutuals and followers who like this book, that’s fine you do you, but I personally am not and probably will never be a fan of Catcher in the Rye. My feelings of why I dislike it are my opinions and I’m not gonna force them on you.
Problem 1: Main character is an unsympathetic asshole
My biggest gripe about the book is honestly a gripe I have about SEVERAL books. Unlikable characters, and I don’t necessarily mean written poorly (though I don’t remember being awed by how the book was written, I’ll be honest.) I mean unsympathetic asshole little bastards that make you want to just chuck the book across the room. Other books that share this problem are The Great Gatsby (that book is hot fucking garbage in terms of likeable characters and I WILL die on that fucking hill do not even @ me), Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie (Main character is an asshole little snobby bitch and despite being a murder mystery written in first person she literally figures things out at such a pace its not fun for the reader because she STILL ends up caught in shit situations she KNEW WAS GOING TO GO DOWN BECAUSE SHES SUCH A SPECIAL LITTLE SHIT- okay that’s a rant for a different post) and The King Must Die. (If you ever want to read a book with shit diction, pick it up.)
Now, as a writer/roleplayer of almost a decade, I’ve made plenty of characters that fall into the unsympathetic asshole role. My problem isn’t with the archetype, it’s often used and often done well (fandoms later trying to apologize for them aside) My PROBLEM comes when that’s either the archetype for the only character given any spotlight, or ALL the characters have that problem. (see, Great Gatsby.) Holden Caulfield(or however the fuck you spell it) is an unsympathetic asshole, and also the character who’s perspective is the only one we get to see, and the only character we really know much about. (Mainly cause he just doesn’t deign to care to give a legitimate effort in giving a damn about anyone else aside from how innocent children/his sister are. More on how creepy that shit is later.) Making a book like this means that I’m far less likely to enjoy it because I want to be able to root for someone. I can root for an asshole, so long as they’re likeable in some regard. Holden is a grade A fuckboy in the making and as such I am not a fan.
TL/DR: It’s possible to have likeable unsympathetic asshole characters, it is almost impossible to do that if that’s all you have exposure too in your cast.
Problem 2: I was really not in the best place to receive such a fucking depresso espresso lesson about life.
Switching gears momentarily from problems with the writing/book itself to problems with the timing of this book showing up in my life. High school was the time when all my trauma I’d successfully… repressed? Avoided dealing with? whatever, basically all my mental health shit suddenly decided to spring itself on me and yell “SURPRISE, YOU’RE MENTALLY FUCKED AND WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!” in 10th grade and it wasn’t until halfway through 11th grade that I even started getting a handle on shit. I almost failed high school and it was *bad*, especially for someone who was just trying to get to college so I could get to vet school and be qualified for a job that requires an ass load of education. So in walks this fucking book and it’s message of “adulthood is a sham, nothing matters and you really should just fuck around and do whatever because it’s all bullshit anyway. Childhood was where it’s at.”
Like???? Alright, that’s not what I need to hear when I’m barely passing high school. Go to fucking therapy and get some help, we all have trauma and therapy is the best path to work through it. I dunno like, yeah okay some people need to hear that message at whatever time in their life they read the book, but that message really wasn’t great to my Anxiety/Depression/ADHD struggling ass trying to just stay steady enough to get into college.
Honestly, even to this day I HATE HATE HATE books with depressing messages like that. I already deal with the struggle of being afraid of failure, getting where I want to be, all that shit. I don’t want that in my literature. Give me a person who struggles but still succeeds and finds some sort of happiness and self-worth in the end. Give me someone overcoming their traumas in such a way that they can at least have a good quality of life afterwards, even if the trauma will never leave, so long as they’re happy. I’m tired of YA novels that try and sell our generation and gen z the message that life sucks. Give me more hope, more heroes, more people making a difference because hell life is short so best make the most of it making a difference.
To quote GotG, why do I care so much about stories that revolve around saving the world, even if that world is just as small as a found family?
Tumblr media
And my existence might as well be a happy one and have HOPE GOD DAMMIT.
TL/DR: If a book leaves me feeling like shit after reading it because it ends on a super shitty note, I’m generally not going to enjoy that book. And the fact that most YA novels these days that are given to highschoolers fall into this category is hot garbage when this is around the time they’re trying to find some sort of direction in life.
*Note: I realize that there are times and places for books that give more somber messages. Hell, I’ve even enjoyed some books with messages of such a tone. But media these days, and honestly for most of my life starting in mid to late teenage years (and maybe earlier) has started taking a turn towards the more depressing/somber stuff, and its overwhelming and just bad. And even back then when first reading it this was something I picked up on and didn’t enjoy. It just was not the right time in my life to hear a message so devoid of giving a shit.
Problem 3: Holden is honestly, super fucking creepy.
Okay, we back on the train of the actual book’s writing. Holden the dipshit is honestly, really fucking creepy. Towards women specifically. I have no direct quotes from the book specifically, but I DISTINCTLY remember the way he talked about women (or even young children/girls) being creepy as shit. Like, he waxes lyrical about his kid sister and her classmates and how innocent they are and how he wants to be the “Catcher in the Rye” to keep them innocent and to keep them from realizing how bad the world is. Great, lovely sentiment Holden. Except that the way you’re going about it comes across as being a pedophile.  You’re at the very least sexist as fuck, because you’re objectifying the fuck out of people anyway.
That scene with the sex worker in the hotel room is also one I remember making me feel super uncomfortable. Not because the sex worker is there, but because uh, just, god, that whole scene gave me the creeps. Probably because I felt bad for the woman, coming into the room expecting to be paid for work and there’s just this kid who breaks the fuck down, tells her some depressing shit, and maybe pays her? (does he pay her? I can’t fucking remember, I’d like to think he does, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t, because he’s an ass.) Actually, bigger question IS HE EVEN OF AGE TO HAVE SEX WITH HER LEGALLY? HOW OLD IS THIS KID? HES STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL RIGHT?
…. so I looked it up, he’s 17. SEVENTEEN. HE IS A M I N O R. I’m like 99% sure that the woman he hires is like, twice his age at least. That’s straight up illegal.
god this just gets worse.
TL/DR: Holden is a 17 year old creep who comes off as a pedophile in the way he talks about kids, and also definitely hired a sex worker while he was underage. Idk if that was legal at the time this book was written, but if it was (and I doubt it), that has aged very poorly.
Problem 4: It’s got a lot of male fans who fall into that all too dangerous category of having Fight Club or Rick and Morty being their favorite bit of visual media.
Okay, again, not a problem of the book. But when the majority fanbase (or at least, the most vocal part) are a bunch of abusive men who don’t realize that the message they took away from a work of fiction is incredibly problematic? Or worse, know and don’t care because they think their take is superior? Uhhh, how do I say, big yikes.
Like, this could be your favorite book, whatever, that’s you, I don’t care, but if your reasoning for it is because Holden is, in your opinion, an unflawed idealized version of yourself/your ideals?
thats a nope from me bro.
———-
That’s all I can do off the top of my head without going in and reading the book again. Which I probably won’t do for a long time, because I don’t need to hear that struggling to make a place for yourself is dumb and proves you’re just “part of the machine, the man has made you his bitch.” while I’m still trying to y’know, get to where I want to go.
But there you go, four solid reasons why I really really do not like Catcher in the Rye.

Why the pro-life atheist movement is a sham. via /r/atheism
Submitted September 08, 2019 at 01:09AM by Justice_is_a_scam (Via reddit https://ift.tt/2LE2fH0) Why the pro-life atheist movement is a sham.
I approached a pro-life ATHEIST group https://www.secularprolife.org/ at my uni.
See, their banners were simple "You still have options if you were raped" something of that sort. Me being naive, I believed it was a women's rights group and accepted the pamphlet.
Complete with pictures of fetuses. They insisted none of their views had anything to do with religion or spirituality and that it was just coming from a basis that all human life is precious.
I ended the conversation on the basis of bodily autonomy but if someone from that group happens to be browsing, or if you get confronted by Secular Pro Life this is for you-
A pragmatic view on the abortion ban:
Let's skip through the philosophical arguments of where personhood starts, let's assume the position of "It's not the babies fault the mother got pregnant, regardless of how it happened."
Say we live in Ben Shapiro fantasy land, where we completely ban abortion in the United States and the autonomy of the fetus takes precedent over the autonomy of the mother.
Say we ban an ancient procedure 1 in 4 women have gone through. . Jones RK and Jerman J, Population group abortion rates and lifetime incidence of abortion: United States, 2008–2014, *American Journal of Public Health*, 2017, doi:10.2105/AJPH.2017.304042.)
Lets skip right to the results of this. What would be the reality of this result?
How do you enforce this law?
So, lets take the average woman in her 20s.
Statistically, she's likely more depressed than any other American women of previous generations. https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/major-depression-rise-among-everyone-new-data-shows-n873146
Statistically, she's likely more suicidal than any other American women of previous generations. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/products/databriefs/db309.htm
Statistically, she, and whoever got her pregnant, are likely to not want children than any other generation, across the globe, in the documented history of mankind. (https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/essay/millennial-life-how-young-adulthood-today-compares-with-prior-generations/)
Statistically, she's most likely to get an abortion. .https://www.guttmacher.org/fact-sheet/induced-abortion-united-states
Let's say this Woman is pregnant and gets an illegal and dangerous back-alley abortion now that all legal abortion is gone.
Surprise! You catch her in mid act. Police are called.
What do you do?
Do you strap her down for 8 months?
Put her in a chemically induced coma and induce delivery?
Do you milk her, too?
Then the $35,000 hospital bill comes in.
And then you charge her with attempted murder and put her in prison. Put the child in the foster care system, right?
So, the 900,000 babies born every year, a statistical majority of them are going to a foster care system that is not at all prepared for the extreme influx of children.
So you put this young woman, who is already at risk for depression and suicide, in an extreme hormonal storm she didn't want, (once again, elevating her risk of depression) restrained her (which would also elevate her risk of depression and likely her risk of mortality), and forced her to go through one of the most notoriously painful events in the world.
You just, again, elevated her risk of Postpartum Depression, Postpartum PTSD, and Postpartum psychosis. All very real things that most people protesting abortion, don't know exist. You likely tore her perineum and made her get stitches, you caused permanent changes to the human body. Her menstrual cup doesn't even fit her any more. She'll be bleeding for weeks, months, afterwards. She'll be exhausted and nauseous for days, especially if she were restrained for 3/4ths of a year. You increased her risk of vaginal and uterine prolapse.
You did all of this without her consent, without her getting any say in the matter.
All in a country with a RISING maternal mortality rate. https://www.thelancet.com/action/showFullTableHTML?isHtml=true&tableId=tbl1&pii=S0140-6736%2816%2931470-2
You made her put her body on the line for someone she doesn't know, doesn't want, her body took a hit for 9 months and suffered permanent physical and neurological changes.
How do you account for miscarriage? How do you know whether she deliberately killed her baby or if she went through a miscarriage? If she smoked during her pregnancy and had a miscarriage- will you charge her with manslaughter?
So we ban every abortion that doesn't pose an immediate and emergency medical threat to the mother-
Using data from 2014- that's
~1,852 girls under 12 years of age you would be restraining for 9 months and forcing them to go through child birth. (That's .20% of all abortions performed, btw.) Every year.
You ever notice how you can't find childbirth pictures online? Go ahead, try it. Full on, vaginal delivery, piss and feces, placenta and other birth matter. Find a photograph of the vaginal opening stretching and tearing (a very very common thing It's extremely difficult. You would think that for medical purposes, you'd have more than just drawings. Literally, all you ever hear about birthing is how great the process is, despite medical statistics telling us the exact opposite.)
Birth and pregnancy are so romanticized it has been killing women for centuries.
You would be placing 900,000 more babies into the world and removing 900,000 girls & women from the education system and work force.
Even if you believe a fetus is a person, banning abortion right now is the worst possible course of action, unless your objective is to restrain women for 9 months and force them to give birth.
Here's how you reduce abortion rates:
Petition to start initiatives and fund allocation to make foster care a healthier and sustainable environment
Petition to fund CPS so their investigations are thorough.
Petition to fund affordable birth control
Petition to fund gynecology care completely. Make that a requirement for insurance companies, like birth is.
Petition to close the terribly massive medical research gap on females. https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/apr/30/fda-clinical-trials-gender-gap-epa-nih-institute-of-medicine-cardiovascular-disease
Petition to fund public education centers for children
Petition to fund public education centers for young women
Petition to fund SEX EDUCATION, teaching consent, birth control, and STD prevention. Make boys understand that getting a girl pregnant could seriously maim or kill her.
Normalize homosexuality. If people feel they are safe to pursue their homosexual preferences, less pregnancies and more adoptions will ensue.
Petition to allow homosexual couples to ADOPT and FOSTER with every agency.
Petition for a massive grant to be allocated for a systemic review of the adoption agencies, foster care, and CPS.
Strongly advocate adoption over IV and other insanely expensive and painful and unhealthy fertility treatments.
Petition to make sterilization more accessible and make sure boys know a vasectomy is healthier than the hormonal BC women usually take.
And lastly, petition to close the wage gap for women. If the wage gap is there because women have children and get pregnant- (as reddit likes to point out to discredit the protest)-that wage gap is a massive deterrent to continue a pregnancy. (Also, plenty of research accounts for time off and the wage gap still exists, especially in white collar professions) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gender\pay_gap)
These are the protest signs they should be making. These are the facebook posts they should be sharing. This is what will save the lives of children and women alike.
If you're an atheist or spiritual person who philosophically believes personhood starts at conception, please think of the consequences of abortion restriction before supporting arguments and bills.
If you truly care about fetus life, you'd be focused on creating a world their mothers believe is worth living in.
Any other action is an extension of religious and non scientific influence on our society, culture, and politics.
TLDR There is no way to pragmatically enforce an abortion ban. Just thinking about it for a second destroys any prolife argument.

This is not a drill.
Imagine waiting with baited breath, watching the digits of time click by on a glowing screen. The house is dark and quiet around you, only the sound of your dad’s snoring can be heard alongside the creaking of an old house settling for the night. You have to hold in your squeals of anticipation and delight, shoving your face into the lavender pillow sham. Consistently tabbing from one browser window to another, you’re managing all of your social media sites in excitement. An MSN Messenger alert flashes at the bottom of your screen, and you flick it open quickly to an onslaught of messages from fellow fans in capital letter screeching through your screen about how you have mere seconds left before the video drops. You respond with an adrenaline filled “IKR!? XD!”
When you pull your internet browser back open and reload the page, it crashes from over activity, but when you reload for a second or third time, you’re greeted with the perfect little window of a new music video. Three young men are dressed in various suits, hair straightened and pulled forward into their eyes. One delighted shriek slips past your lips, and you leap from your bed, unable to watch the video from a seated position.
Now imagine that same you, ten years down the road, waking up to an iMessage from your lifelong best friend. It’s a screenshot of an Instagram, which she’s captioned “This is not a drill.” Instantly, the adrenaline comes rushing back. You’re 16 again, in your old bedroom, posters strewn across every square inch of visible dry wall. That’s the exact feeling I had this morning, February 28th, 2019, when the Jonas Brothers announced they were back.
The Jonas Brothers, a pop band of, you guessed it, brothers, made their debut and became famous in the early to mid-2000s. They had a handful of hit albums, two original movies, and a short series on the Disney Channel, as well as a handful of sold out World Tours. In 2013, after the release of their single, Pom Poms, the boys announced a break and decided to go their separate ways over “creative differences”. Nick, the youngest in the band, went on to produce a couple of successful solo pop albums. Joe formed the band, DNCE, also finding success in the pop music scene. Kevin, the eldest, started a real estate development business. They’d all gotten engaged or married, things were going great for the brothers.
Things were going well for me too, I’d moved on. I’m married, I have a dog. I’ve lived my life and grown into adulthood similarly to the rest of the JB fandom. Sure, I fell into a torrid love affair with One Direction (and then they abandoned me too), but I never gave up hope that one day those Jonas boys from New Jersey would reunite. I just never imagined it’d be so soon.
The Jonas Brothers announced their reunion this morning with a wealth of Instagram photos, boomerangs, and video clips regarding their latest single, Sucker. Among these was an announcement that they’ll be musical guest starring on The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS, this coming Monday-Friday. (Harry Styles and Shawn Mendes were among other heartthrobs who received this preferential treatment on Corden’s show for their own album releases.) Later this afternoon, they teased with the link to a live stream video on their YouTube channel which streamed the image of a castle until the release time of 12AM EST.
On the West Coast, as 9PM rolled around, after a day of singing some old JoBro hits like Hello Beautiful and Much Better, I loaded the livestream, watching the thousands roll in to watch the video with me. I texted the link to my best friend and sucked in a breath of anticipation. I called to my husband from the bedroom, he told me he’d watch it later. Suddenly, at the seconds rolled, 70 thousand people on the chat, I felt like a high schooler again.
That familiar giggle bubbled in my throat, the excited shriek of a girl beyond words. My fingers tapped against the glass of my phone, rattling out excited messages to my closest loved ones, anticipating their reactions. It’s the suspense that really gets you. It’s the feeling at bedtime on Christmas Eve, where you can’t close your eyes, but you know the moment you wake up, Santa will have brought you everything your little heart desired. The seconds ticked away, I brought the video up to full screen, and there they were.
The song itself, their new single, Sucker, is a downright JAM. The song opens with an easy to follow funk beat, all bass guitar and clackers, and Nick’s sweet-sweet falsetto croon. My adolescence was made of this stuff. Joe comes in with the bridge with bouncy consonants:
“I’ve been dancing on top of cars
And stumbling out of bars
I’ll follow you through the dark”
The two brothers harmonize beautifully until the drop before the hook. This song, about being head-over-heels and madly in love (“a sucker for you”) is impossible to not bob along to. The beat is reminiscent of Pharrell’s Happy, a chipper little clap-clap-snap. The chord progression is distinctly pop, but in a great way. The combination of Nick and Joe’s vocals bring me back to other JoBro’s hits like Pom Poms or Burnin’ Up, but in a way that’s fresh and relevant and entertaining. There’s even a whistle interlude before the last bridge, and who can really resist a good whistle?
As a lifelong Jonas Brother fangirl, I’m pleased to hear their music has grown with them and their fandom. They’ve clearly taken ideas from their individual solo work and applied it to the group dynamic, and it works. The song is fresh without feeling outlandish or unfamiliar, and I can see it driving me insane from overplay in a few days. I can only imagine how radio listeners will feel.
Upon first listen, I bobbed along excitedly, but I almost couldn’t focus on the new single whilst watching the incredibly indulgent and stunningly fever dream of a music video. Opening on a castle overflowing with multicolored balloons (aka my dream home), the video takes you through an Moulin Rogue meets Marie Antoinette journey of epic proportions. The boys, all clad in impeccable velvet and sequin attire, are performing in a dimly lit room with checker print floors. Their audience is their three stunning wives, also wearing incredibly outlandish outfits, sunbathing beside a gaggle of rabbits. I can’t make this up, but I wish I had.
The video takes you through various Alice in Wonderland-esque scenarios of the large Jonas family indulging in fencing matches, a lavish feast, and garden baths. All the while, they’re sipping cocktails, sucking on sweets (get it? I’m a sucker for you.), and doing the tango in incredible over-the-top wardrobes.
Although Nick, Joe, and Kevin were my initial draw to the video (and the band, let’s get real), their S.O.s definitely stole the show. Priyanka pulled gaze in every shot, and Danielle looked to-die-for while walking those corgis. Honestly though, Sophie Turner, in all of her glory, made this the best music video the Jonas Brothers have ever shot. Consistently pulling diva faces or lip syncing to the best lyrics, Sophie killed it. Every little cock of her eyebrow or lick of her lips had me cackling. At the end of the video, there is a rather racy predicament in which the women are sensually teasing their men, and Joe is found tied up precariously while Sophie watches on from a throne. It’s incredible.
At the end of the video, I was a bubbling bundle of excitement and pride. The Jonas Brothers have really brought it this time around, and they don’t intend to disappoint. I intend to be right here, the glow of my laptop illuminating my face, trying to stay quiet while my husband snores in the background. Occasionally, I’ll let out a fangirlish shriek, ready for what other surprises the Jonas Brothers have up their sleeves.

Diary of a cinephile - Entry 3 (Heavy, heavy Creepy and Cult edition)
I decided to try and do my diaries in a more themed way so it’s not all random shit always. Those are fun but this way, if you see a theme that interests you, these entries would be much easier if you want recommendation. I only comment on those I have seen the past few months though, so it’s never a ‘top ten’ list or anything, just those that were memorable and stuck with me.
Tumblr media
And for most of these, I didn’t find any gifs. So if you see them, you can brag how you found those niche yet pearl movies, because I went through them for you and found the best (not really but you get the point. It’s nice to be a film-douche sometimes.)
Sound Of My Voice
Non-fiction, cult, drama, indie
Peter Aitken: Somewhere in the valley, there is a woman living in a basement. She's actually amassing followers. These people believe that she will actually lead them to salvation, or whatever. And yes, she's dangerous - but we have to see this thing through. All the way.
Trailer (not really necessary to watch, don’t if you read what I say below.)
Tumblr media
A sickly woman claims she’s from the future and is searching for the right survivors to save once some huge event comes. A skeptic journalist infiltrates the highly secretive meetings to report and expose her sham. But is it a sham?
I feel like there is a huge change coming to indie film. It used to be where they were overly pretentious in order to gather awards, but they figured out with their small budget, to actually be enjoyable, you have to be straight to the point, (though I love me some ambiguity if done well.) I thank Netflix for that. It’s a nice and welcome change.
Though this movie is very open to interpretation, it is very in your face as well. I had been waiting to see a story of a cult being told so bluntly, I feel like most of them skim over the horribleness. It is disgusting, it does mess with your mind, nobody is immune once they get in your head. And they always know just HOW.
The ending left me a bit like ‘uuuh, whaa...? I thought they’d tell us.’ because I didn’t know if I liked it. But reviewing all the subtle hints left in the movie, I think I know the answer and it’s even more horrifying than I imagined.
Hint: it has to do with pedophilia.
+ Bonus Point: Not afraid to show... things that do happen. But also not shoving it in your face for shock value.
++ Bonus Point: Never dragging on. It told what it wanted to tell and it was never boring.
--------------
The Endless
science fiction, psychological thriller, fantasy, cult
For some reason always angry walking guy: You just follow this... *scribbles nonsense* map, and these loop-marker... hoodoo... fuckamajiggs, and you bring me back a real nice gun.
Trailer (People say it gives too much away but I really don’t. You’d have to be a genius figuring out what is going on with just this. Though if you want incredible visuals being a surprise, don’t watch. Maybe 20 seconds or so so you get an idea of how gorgeous it is.)
Tumblr media
Two boys escaped a ‘Cult’ when they were young and are now living day by day. The younger brother remembers it complely different than the older though, and in order to help him with his therapy, the oldest agrees to go back for....
One. Last. Time.
I have no idea why this movie is already so underrated. My god, did I have weird fun with this one. Every five minutes I had to re-arrange my previous conception of the whole situation, and every five minutes it gets weirder, and weirder, and weirder.
Just like the main characters, you have absolutely no idea what to think or believe, but you KNOW something is off. This is a very creative spin, an almost symbolic one of what defines a cult. It’s part science-fiction, part reality, part thriller, part fantasy, and from every genre they took the best parts and smushed it together into something incredible.
You DO have to re-arrange your brain a few times, maybe that’s why it’s not that loved. It’s not a movie you watch if you want answers NOW.
+ Bonus Point: It’s friggin gorgeous. The cinematography is so spot on, and the subtle effects they used gave me the absolute creeps because they remind me of exactly how it feels like to be living in a nightmare.
++ Bonus Point: Accurate tough brotherly love representation. It’s never all sunshine and rainbows.
--------------
The Gift
non-fiction, psychological thriller, indie
Gordo: It's all in the eyes, you see. You see what happens when you poison other people's mind with ideas?
People can be evil to no end. The worst torture is mental, because it’s a wound that never really heals.
trailer : Don’t watch it, maybe a few seconds. It’s way more effective if you just let the creepiness wash over you.
Tumblr media
A socially awkward guy wants to be friends, because you’ve been a dick to them in the past. To make ammends? Or is he delusional, has ulterior motives, or are you the one that is evil, what is going on? Do you feel pity and if you do does that make it worse?
I think this is another Netflix movie, I’m not sure. But for the budget, once again, they fucking blew my mind. It portrays exacly how mean people can be, how you never really grow out of highschool, how ‘adulthood’ is a lie. Nobody suddenly becomes a saint, and you never, ever stop hurting people or be the hurt one.
Some fix it one way, others... Well.
They give you ‘a gift’.
And it’s worse than a death sentence.
---------------
Phone Booth
The Caller: You're in this position because you're not telling the truth.
Stu: No, I'm in this fucking position because YOU HAVE A GUN!
Trailer: These old trailers make no sense so yeah, watch. Don’t think for a second it’s representative of it though.
Tumblr media
This is something completely different, but I wanted to include it because it’s the most riviting movie ever (’Speed’ also made me pee my pants a little but this one is still better). INSIDE A FRIGGIN PHONE BOOTH.
It’s the perfect example for directors that don’t know how to make a blast, to show them you don’t need exploding cars, airplanes, whatever, if you are so desperate to make a bang, you know mental breakdowns feel exactly the same way when in confined spaces.
It was horrible, HORRIBLE to experience the same claustophobia but portrayed SO REAL for an ahum... ‘action movie’.
+ Bonus Point: I had no idea time had even passed. I guess that’s what they call ‘clinging to people’s lips’. I watched and suddenly it was so much time later.
Making these things takes time. I think my next subject will be ‘feel good’ movies, because I’ve watched them in between to keep my sanity.

Zheng He
Zheng He (1371–1433), formerly romanized as Cheng Ho, was a Hui-Chinese court eunuch, mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded expeditionary voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. As a favorite of the Yongle Emperor, whose usurpation he assisted, he rose to the top of the imperial hierarchy and served as commander of the southern capital Nanjing. These voyages were long neglected in official Chinese histories but have become well known in China and abroad since the publication of Liang Qihao's "Biography of Our Homeland's Great Navigator, Zheng He"[3] in 1904.[4] A trilingual stele left by the navigator was discovered on Sri Lanka shortly thereafter.
Zheng He was the second son of a family from Kunyang,[a] Yunnan.[5] He was originally born with the name Ma He.[1][6] His family were Hui people. He had four sisters[1][6][7][8] and one older brother.[1][7]Zheng He's religious beliefs are uncertain. We know that he was born into a Muslim family[6][9][10] and that on his travels he built mosques while also spreading the worship of Mazu/Tianfei. He apparently never found time for a pilgrimage to Mecca but did send sailors there on his last voyage. He played an important part in developing relations between China and Islamic countries.[11][12] His religious beliefs may have become eclectic in his adulthood.[9][10] Zheng He also visited Muslim shrines of Islamic holy men in the Fujian province. In 1985 a Muslim-style tomb was built in Nanjing on the site of an earlier horseshoe-shape grave; it contains his clothes and headgear as his body was buried at sea.[13]
He was the great-great-great-grandson of Sayyid Ajjal Shams al-Din Omar, a Persian who served in the administration of the Mongol Empire and was the Governor of Yunnan during the early Yuan Dynasty.[14][15] His great-grandfather was named Bayan and may have been stationed at a Mongol garrisons in Yunnan.[6] His grandfather carried the title hajji.[1][16] His father had the surname Ma and the title hajji.[1][6][16] The title suggest that they had made the pilgrimage to Mecca.[1][6][16]
In the autumn of 1381, a Ming army invaded and conquered Yunnan, which was then ruled by the Mongol prince Basalawarmi, Prince of Liang.[17] In 1381, Ma Hajji (Zheng He's father) died as a casualty of the hostilities between the Ming armies and Mongol forces.[7] Dreyer (2007) states that Zheng He's father died at age 39 while resisting the Ming conquest.[17] Levathes (1996) states Zheng He's father died at age 37, but it's unclear whether it was due to helping the Mongol army or due to just being caught in the onslaught of battle.[7] Wenming, the oldest son, would bury their father outside of Kunming.[7] In his capacity, Admiral Zheng He had an epitaph engraved in honor of his father, which was composed by the Minister of Rites Li Zhigang on the Duanwu Festival of the 3rd year in the Yongle reign (1 June 1405).[18]
After the fall of Kunming in Yunnan, Zheng He, then only eleven years old,[contradiction] was captured by the Ming-allied Muslim troops of Lan Yu and Fu Youde and castrated along with 380 other captives.[19][verification needed] Zheng He was captured by the Ming armies at Yunnan in 1381.[7] General Fu Youde saw Zheng He on a road and approached him to inquire about the location of the Mongol pretender.[20] Zheng He responded defiantly that he had jumped into a lake.[20] Afterwards, the general took him prisoner.[20] The young Zheng He was soon castrated before being placed in servitude of the Prince of Yan.[17] However, Levathes (1996) has stated that he was castrated in 1385.[20]

Why They Killed Patrice Lumumba
Tumblr media

Patrice Lumumba was a radical leader of the Congolese independence movement who resisted Belgian colonialism and corporate interests. That’s why he was assassinated in a US-backed coup 59 years ago today.
Born in 1925, Patrice Émery Lumumba was a radical anticolonial leader who became the first prime minister of the newly independent Congo at the age of thirty-five. Seven months into his term, on January 17, 1961, he was assassinated.
Lumumba had become an opponent of Belgian racism after being jailed in 1957 on trumped-up charges by the colonial authorities. Following a twelve-month prison term, he found a job as a beer salesman, during which time he developed his oratory skills and increasingly embraced the view that Congo’s vast mineral wealth should benefit the Congolese people rather than foreign corporate interests.
Lumumba’s political horizons extended far beyond the Congo. He was soon caught up in the wider wave of African nationalism sweeping the continent. In December 1958, Ghanaian president Kwame Nkrumah invited Lumumba to attend the anti-colonial All African People’s Conference, which attracted civic associations, unions, and other popular organizations.
Two years later, following mass demands for a democratic election, the Congolese National Movement headed by Lumumba decisively won the Congo’s first parliamentary contest. The left-nationalist leader took office in June 1960.
But Lumumba’s progressive-populist proposals and his opposition to the Katanga secessionist movement (which was led by the white-ruled colonial states of southern Africa and proclaimed its independence from the Congo on July 11, 1960) angered an array of foreign and local interests: the Belgian colonial state, companies extracting the Congo’s mineral resources, and, of course, the leaders of white-ruled southern African states. As tensions grew, the United Nations rejected Lumumba’s request for support. He decided to call for Soviet military assistance to quell the burgeoning Congo Crisis brought about by the Belgian-supported secessionists. That proved to be the last straw.
Lumumba was seized, tortured, and executed in a coup supported by the Belgian authorities, the United States, and the United Nations. With Lumumba’s assassination died a part of the dream of a united, democratic, ethnically pluralist, and pan-Africanist Congo.
The murder of Lumumba and his replacement by the US-backed dictator Mobutu Sese Seko laid the foundation for the decades of internal strife, dictatorship, and economic decline that have marked postcolonial Congo. The destabilization of Congolese society under Mobutu’s brutal rule — lasting from 1965 to 1997 — culminated in a series of devastating conflicts, known as the first and second Congo wars (or “Africa’s world wars”). These conflicts not only fractured Congolese society but also engulfed nearly all of the country’s neighbors, ultimately involving nine African nations and around twenty-five armed groups. By the formal end of the conflict, around 2003, nearly 5.4 million people had died from the fighting and its aftermath, making the war the world’s second deadliest conflict since World War II.
Particularly in light of the Congo’s turbulent trajectory following his assassination, Lumumba remains a source of despair, debate, and inspiration among radical movements and thinkers across Africa and beyond. Jacobin contributor Sa’eed Husaini recently spoke with Georges Nzongola-Ntalaja, a leading Congolese intellectual and the author of a biography of Lumumba, about the life, death, and politics of the radical nationalist leader.
SH | Arguably the best-known event of Lumumba’s life remains its tragic end. Though there has been at least some symbolic acknowledgment of Belgium’s role in Lumumba’s murder, no such reckoning has occurred in the United States. From your perspective, what would a full restitution for Lumumba’s murder look like?
GNN | There cannot be a full restitution for Lumumba’s murder. No amount of money or other form of compensation would do justice to the harm suffered by the Congo in losing a thirty-five-year-old visionary leader who could have helped build a great country. No amount of money would do justice to his children after having grown up without a loving and supporting father to guide them through childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. And the same goes for his wife and other relatives, whose loss could not be mitigated by material acquisitions.
What is needed from all the accomplices in Lumumba’s murder is, first of all, an acknowledgment of the crime they committed against him, his family, the Congo, and Africa; an apology for the harm done in this regard; and an effort to honor the Congo’s first democratically elected leader by promoting his legacy through schools, public education, and cultural events in all the countries whose leaders took part in his disappearance, beginning with the Congo itself.
SH | Despite growing up in his ethno-cultural homeland, Lumumba came to be known for his ardently multiethnic and even pan-African worldview. Were there aspects of his early upbringing in Sankuru that predisposed Lumumba to place a high value on Congolese unity and ethnic diversity?
GNN | While the Sankuru region of the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo) is mostly known as the home of the Tetela people, to which Lumumba himself belongs, it is inhabited by people of other ethnic groups who ended up there either because of the activities of the Swahili-Arab slave traders or those of Belgian colonialists. These groups include the Kusu of Maniema, the Luba, the Songye, and other groups from the Kasai region, as well as the Mongo of Équateur.
In addition to growing up in a multiethnic environment, Lumumba’s formative years as a middle-class civil servant took place between 1944 and 1956 in Kisangani (then Stanleyville), one of the major cities in the Congo and an area of ethnic diversity.
SH | You write that as a postal official in the Belgian colonial service, Lumumba was initially enamored by the possibility of “matriculating” or dropping his status as a “native” Congolese in favor of the status of an évolué, or honorary European. At what point did Lumumba abandon this hope of attaining elite status in colonial society in favor of a radical opposition to the Belgian colonial project?
GNN | Lumumba acquired both the civic merit card and the matriculation status in Kisangani, but these achievements of upper mobility in the colonial situation were a sham because racism continued to raise its ugly head through the color/wage bar.
Although entrusted with a job usually reserved for Europeans as manager of the money orders service, Lumumba’s salary was determined by his race, not his functions. He earned the equivalent of $100 USD in 1956, somewhere between one-tenth and one-fifteenth of the salary of a European civil servant doing a similar job. His European colleagues also received free housing, a car, and a fully paid, six-month vacation back home to Belgium every three years.
These and other realities of the colonial situation eventually made him abandon his naive hope of seeing whites and the évolués working hand in hand to lift up the “ignorant masses” in a Belgian-Congolese community and pushed him in the direction of African and Congolese nationalism.
SH | How did Congolese nationalists view violence as a means of attaining political independence, and where did Lumumba stand on this question?
GNN | In general, Congolese nationalist leaders were strong believers in nonviolence, and Lumumba was no exception. This is why they were all shocked by the mass uprising for independence on January 4, 1959 [which erupted in Leopoldville, present-day Kinshasa, after members of an anticolonial party were denied the right to assemble. Celebrated today as the Day of Martyrs, it was the first major outbreak of violence in the independence movement and marked a turning point for the anti-colonial struggle].
Later on, these leaders understood that mass violence was a bargaining chip in their confrontations with the colonial masters, as the latter found it difficult to maintain law and order in the vast Congo once the masses had rejected colonial authority and were unwilling to obey colonial administrative directives.
SH | What role did international mining companies play in encouraging the province of Katanga to secede from the Congo, and how did this contribute to the origin of the Congo Crisis?
GNN | With their mineral empire running from Katanga to the Cape, international mining companies did not like the idea of having a radical nationalist government in the Congo — one likely to reduce their profit margins with higher taxes and royalties in order to improve the livelihood of ordinary Congolese. This is why these companies, which had rejected efforts by white settlers to get a piece of the pie as their counterparts in South Africa, Rhodesia (Zimbabwe), and South West Africa (Namibia) had done, switched gears by forming an alliance with racist white settlers and right-wing lobbies in the United States and the United Kingdom.
This alliance not only endorsed the long-held dream of white settlers to gain political power in Katanga, but also provided the funds needed to sustain the secessionist drive in Katanga, with help from Belgium, Britain, and France.
SH | One could say that the origins of the Congo Crisis lie in a chance alliance between Belgian settlers and corporations, uniting with business and state interests from the white-ruled states of southern Africa. You describe this alliance as a “counter-revolution against national liberation,” given that it was formed to oppose the radical nationalism sweeping the continent. Could you say more about this alliance?
GNN | The Congo Crisis cannot be understood without reference to the Belgian-engineered Katanga secession in collaboration with international mining companies, which recruited white mercenaries to join Belgian troops in backstopping the secession. The UN refusal to use force to expel Belgian troops and the mercenaries led to the dispute between Prime Minister Lumumba and UN secretary-general Dag Hammarskjöld, who shared the same worldview as major Western powers and was very hostile toward Lumumba, as shown by the cable traffic in UN archives.
SH | So why did this combination of previously competing international and local actors ultimately come to agree that Lumumba’s assassination was necessary?
He was the single most important obstacle to their scheme of establishing neocolonialism in the Congo, as they started on July 11, 1960 in Katanga.
SH | Lumumba delivered many memorable speeches and also wrote many moving letters. In 1960, he wrote to his wife from prison: “The day will come when history will speak. But it will not be the history which will be taught in Brussels, Paris, Washington or the United Nations. It will be the history which will be taught in the countries which have won freedom from colonialism and its puppets. Africa will write its own history and in both north and south it will be a history of glory and dignity.” Was Lumumba also able to articulate a specific vision for how he intended to transform the state and Congolese society during the brief period in which he served as prime minister?
GNN | We do get a glimpse of his vision for postcolonial Congo in several of his major speeches and letters. While preoccupied with the unity, independence, and sovereignty of the Congo, due of course to the counterrevolutionary situation facing the country from July 10 to 11, 1960 (the Belgian military invasion and the Katanga secession, respectively), his main concern was how to transform the inherited structures of the state and the economy in order to improve the quality of life of ordinary Congolese.
SH | Like Amílcar Cabral, Thomas Sankara, and Steve Biko, Lumumba’s martyrdom transformed him into a powerful symbolic force that continues to inspire radical movements across Africa. In your preface, you briefly describe the inspiration and sudden disappointment you felt at the time as a high school student (who was expelled for anti-colonial activities) witnessing Lumumba’s meteoric rise and tragic assassination. As Africans and in the wider world, have we truly reckoned with the historical trauma that came from witnessing the assassination of some of the continent’s most promising leaders?
GNN | Since all the assassinated leaders you mention were victims of world powers and/or their allies in Africa, like fascist Portugal and apartheid South Africa, I don’t see why the world powers responsible for eliminating those African leaders they detest should be concerned with the impact of those assassinations on Africa.
It is up to us, Africans, to make sure that we follow the teachings of Amílcar Cabral on knowing our own weaknesses and finding ways to overcome them, and those of Kwame Nkrumah on collective continental security through an African military high command. We need our own equivalent to NATO to ensure the security of our people and that of our endangered progressive leaders.

I’m thinking of this little castaway generation of kids who graduated Hogwarts into the First War and grew into adulthood in the shadow of a mostly-dead Voldemort. As usual, I’m going to subject you all to this in the middle of the night. I’m using Remus as a touchstone here but I think a lot of this in general (barring any individualized perspectives) is applicable to that whole generation.
I keep getting struck by how young they all were. Remus is twenty-one when everything goes down on Halloween. Twenty-one might feel old while you’re in it but it’s really not. He’s a kid, they all were. They plopped out of Hogwarts at age 17-18 into a reign of terror. Their families and friends were dying off like flies. The way Sirius tells it in the books is genuinely terrifying. People disappearing, tensions are skyrocketing, families torn apart by hate and death.
The thing is that life still goes on. Look at the gallows humor from wartime London in WWII for a great example. People don’t stop being people just because the world’s gone to shit. IT changes their entire worldview and fucks with so much about them, but they’re still people. They’re still gonna go to shows and listen to music and fight about dumb shit like which Beatle is better (to his dying day, Remus insists it’s Paul - literally, he got in an argument with Tonks the morning of the battle because she insisted it was John). And young people especially, who’ve never lived through the Grindelwald shit or other tragedies like the jaded older folks - they still have hope. Good will triumph over evil.
And you know what? In Harry Potter, it does. Voldemort is defeated, the world is saved. My favorite chapter in all of Potterverse is that first one with Vernon going into town and everyone is ecstatic. It’s VE dayx10. This war was fought entirely on the homefront.
The defeat of Voldemort doesn’t erase the colossal loss of life. This little castaway generation had their innocence destroyed and their worlds turned upside down. Name me a single person who hadn’t lost at least one loved one. Remus’ situation is unique only in that the people he loved and lost were the nucleus of the fight. When the dust settles he’s just one of thousands of these people struggling to pick up the pieces and live in a world without war.
And aside from the grief I think that’s the trickiest part - look at soldiers coming home from battle and the struggles they face in readjusting to civilian life. This war was the norm. It was fought in the streets of London and tainted everything. How do you come out from under that cloud you’ve had hanging over your head for years? How do you navigate a brave new world that’s not choked by tension? The anxiety of waiting for the other shoe to drop doesn’t just go away because the Prophet said Voldemort was defeated. It’s still there, in reports of the Lestranges torturing the Longbottoms and in the months of trials - some real, some sham - prosecuting alleged war criminals. It’s in looking over your shoulder because you swore you saw someone, or panicking because your sister’s late in coming home and christ, not her, not again.  It’s in the fields of headstones, some empty, of whole families and people - kids - who never saw thirty, or twenty-five, or twenty-two.
This little generation of survivors, man. I do not envy those first few years of rebuilding.

Gay-liens, Unite.
Another year gone by so quickly, and pride season is once again upon us. It seems as though with every year that goes by, however, the meaning and purpose of Pride continues to become more and more blurred, almost feeling like a distancing planet carrying our predecessors further into outer space. Now the question is, are we the aliens, or are they?
Even as a doe-eyed twenty-something queer kid skipping down Santa Monica Boulevard toward the festival in my size 30 jeans and v-neck t-shirt, hand in hand with my designated hag and a water-bottle filled with Svedka and Emergen-C, I always knew in the back of my head that this environment that I was trying to exist in was a complete sham, void of any spiritual growth or maturity, and driven solely by a need for attention, whether purely sexual or otherwise.  Looking back, there were certainly some fun times had, but when I think of some of the things that I put myself and my body through in order to assimilate to the standards put forth by the gay male community at-large, I feel devastated.
Rather than spend countless hours attempting to untangle the old box of Christmas lights that is the gay community’s jaggedly collective road to its current state of affairs, let’s just cut to the chase…
 We MUST evolve.
The gay community must confront its problems head-on, and we must collectively begin to evolve and grow, not just for ourselves, but for current and future queer kids as well. As a school counselor in the K-12 public school system, I am beginning to see gradual change every single year, and young queer kids are beginning to live their lives openly at a much younger age than I ever felt able to. Will this solve all of the community’s problems? No. However, it certainly opens the door to many amazing opportunities for growth and evolution.
Many of the problems that continue to plague the LGBTQI community have been triggered by what I can only describe as “Peter Pan Syndrome”, meaning, queer folks in the millennial and boomer categories, for the most part, lived closeted lives throughout their entire childhoods, and expended a tremendous amount of energy hiding their true identities, rather than experiencing a normal childhood and young adulthood full of cliques, crushes, first kisses, same-sex prom dates, getting to second-base, and even first heartbreak. Most of us did not get to experience any of that.
Truly think about that for a second and reflect…
Even as a write this, I am overwhelmed with a flood of emotion thinking about how I was completely robbed of all of these milestones that every child should get to experience. I never got to date a boy in high school. My first kiss was during my freshman year of college, which occurred simultaneously during my first sexual experience, and lacked any kind of purity, innocence, romance or emotional meaning. I took girls to prom, one of which was somewhat against my own will, and was one of the saddest and loneliest nights of my teenage life.  Even though I had some friends, I felt completely alone and empty inside because there was literally not one person on the entire planet that I had ever shared my true identity with.
I was an alien in human form, like the kids from Smallville.
Due to my complete lack of a real childhood and failure to reach any of the aforementioned milestones in this piece, I found myself regressing back to child-like behavior during most of my twenties. Binge-drinking with friends, partying in West-Hollywood every weekend, living at home with my parents, figuring out how to date (but always failing because I couldn’t keep my disco stick in my pants, and neither could they), starving myself to be thin, shaving my entire, very hairy body to look like the other boys, tweezing my eyebrows, flat ironing my hair - I cringe even thinking about what I used to do to myself. Does it sound familiar? It should. This is basically what every 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grader does as they navigate self-exploration and identity during their formative years.
That’s right folks, you heard it here first; the gay community has re-created high school, on loop, to make up for lost childhoods. If that is not one of the most nightmaric thoughts that you have had in awhile, may I suggest seeking out help?
 Kidding.
All jokes aside, this terrible tragedy has snowballed into continued tragedy within the gay community, whether any of us are willing to recognize it or not. I can’t tell you how many times I have been sitting on the patio of Hunters in Palm Springs with a Jack and Diet on a Saturday night, trying to have a meaningful conversation with guys my age who were either hopped up on prescriptions drugs, meth, cocaine, or booze, and were clearly addicted to self-tanners, steroids, a variety of penis enlargement methods, or a combination of all of these things, and have either told me that I take life way too seriously, or that maybe I was the one with the problem.
 Adorable, right?
I am not so naive to think that I am going to solve all of the LGBTQI Community’s problems myself with a blog post. However, I hope that by reading this, we can all at least attempt to be a little bit more mindful of what we face everyday, so that we can begin to deal and heal.

Issues of Teenagers
What comes into your mind when you here the word ‘fake’?
Fake a thing that is not genuine; a forgery or sham.
My advocacy is all about fake people, fake love. Why? Because my friends(?) are showing fake love to me, they made me feel so loved in front of my face, but at my back? they talk like I’m one of the worst. In our generation, we don’t know who really is our friend. Who’s real with us. And who can we trust.
Tumblr media
YES! they’ll destroy you, they will made you feel so worst, they’ll talk behind your back, but if they’ll notice that you’re affected and feel so down, they’ll ask you “why”? “what happened to you”? and say “i’m just really concerned about you.”
I get really disappointed. Especially to those ‘friends’ that I trusted the most. They are slowly making me feel like I was the baddest person alive. And I hate it. They are making me have trust issues. Slowly I’m being traumatized, and thinking that I can trust no one. I’m always asking them if they have a problem with me, they’ll say none, but then someone will tell me that they are saying something behind my back.
There are different kinds of Fake Friends namely the:
The SEDUCER - don’t let yourself be flattered by their ‘flowering’ words.
The MANIPULATOR -  all that matters to them is how to jump the hurdles in their way to get what they want.
The COMPLIMENTER -  if you feel like their praise is over the top and disingenuous, they probably are.
The SOCIAL CLIMBER -  they insist on meeting all of your friends, which isn’t weird until you find out they’ve left you behind in their rush to the top.
The LEACH - they insist on meeting all of your friends, which isn’t weird until you find out they’ve left you behind in their rush to the top.
Tumblr media
It’s worst than being attacked in front, because they are stabbing you in the back, and what made it worst is you don’t know who they are.
This is one of the problem of the teenagers nowadays, he thought that he’s in the right circle of friends, he thought that his friends can make a positive change in his life, that his friends will make him a better person, but it is the other way around. Fake friends will destroy you, will make you feel like you’re a terrible person, then they’ll ask you why you are bleeding.
To those who just can’t be real with anyone, you still have time to change!
Above was one of the issues of teenagers nowadays, If you wanna know the different issues of teenagers and how we could help them and understand them, then please continue reading. God bless!
SO WHAT ARE THE ISSUES OF TEENAGERS?
First, what is teenager? A teenager, or teen, is a young person whose age falls within the range from 13–19. They are called teenagers because their age number ends with “teen”.Usage by ordinary people varies, and also varies in different societies. Most societies traditionally had a formal ceremony to mark the change from childhood to adulthood. During puberty, rapid mental and physical development occurs. Adolescence is the name for this transition period from childhood to adulthood.
Tumblr media
Teenagers face real problems on a daily basis during the most awkward growth of stage of their lives. During these times, teens are exposed to some overwhelming external and internal struggles. Teens go through, and are expected to cope with hormonal changes, puberty, social and parental forces, work and school pressures.
Tumblr media
The issues that teenagers face today vary but the issues can be dealt with easily if parents can understand the symptoms of their problems. Parents needs to approach their children in a nice, careful and friendly manner. Because many teens feel misunderstood.
Tumblr media
Common Problems Teenagers Face Today
Self esteem and Body Image. Puberty changes tempt teenagers to compare themselves with people around them.
Bullying.  Bullying is a systematic abuse of power. For some young people, it takes the form of repeated teasing and name-calling. For other young people, bullying can end up in social exclusion or verbal or physical assault. Bullying can also occur online – this is cyberbullying.
Depression.  Teen depression is a serious mental health problem that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest in activities. It affects how your teenager thinks, feels and behaves, and it can cause emotional, functional and physical problems. Although depression can occur at any time in life.
Drugs and Alcohol. Many teens try alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. Some teens try these substances only a few times and stop. Others can’t control their urges or cravings for them. This is substance abuse.Teens may try a number of substances, including cigarettes, alcohol, household chemicals (inhalants), prescription and over-the-counter medicines, and illegal drugs. Teens use alcohol more than any other substance. Marijuana is the illegal drug that teens use most often.
My final thoughts on how we could help each other:
In teenagers life, one problem invites another, then to more problem. teenagers may face with uncertainly, confusion and wrong direction involving their lives. Those who have experienced and witnesses broken homes, unsafe sex, alcohol and drug abuse, and bullying issues, show themselves differently in the community they live in. Proper parenting is needed, especially in the very formative years of the children, so that they can grow up with the manners and teachings that are being taught by their parents.
