I love your Los Brujos in all flavors, they're so much family that annoys and loves each other!
What are your favorite things about the three brothers?
Hahaha thank you! 🥺 i would say over all, my favorite things about them is how silly they are!!
Tumblr media
A lot of their personalities/traits are based on my experiences with people I know, so writing their dialogue feels like conversations with loved ones. 💖
Specifically though, I love Adrián’s mischievousness, I love Manuel’s sensitivity, and I like Víctor’s charisma.

This is a headcanon I had for a while-
The Infinite Realms were originally not an afterlife. Some would still argue that they're not one, never mind that it's now home to at least some thousand ghosts.
Before, there used to be only spirits, concepts, and maybe some gods. It became populated with ghosts when humanity's numbers climbed and their deads' energy plus feelings were enough to coalesce in the Infinite Realms into shapes which recreate their personalities.
Vivi is vibrating in her shoes when she realizes that.
👀
((I love this??))
I've seen a lot in fanon that the Infinite Realms connect to other universes - that it is the place everything else connects to - and I really like that idea. I thought about it like multicolored yarn - the universe was one color, the Infinite Realms were another, and in between, where the colors mixed, was the Afterlife/Afterlives of the universe in question.
If it's possible for spirits to travel back to the mortal coil from an afterlife (giving us ghosts and spirits and all sorts of things in the living world), then it makes sense that they'd be able to travel the opposite way, and end up in the Infinite Realms, right?
Most of them probably get there by accident. There's probably no road map to the afterlife, so in trying to go back home/visit their family/friends/haunt their murderers/etc., a lot of souls could end up in the Infinite Realms (or they just. Fall through the proverbial cracks on their way TO the afterlife. That's a possibility, too). The Realms, being infused with the energy and presence of godlike beings, Concepts and Forces of the Universe, slowly adapted itself around these new souls as more and more of them found their way there, and likewise forced those souls to adapt to it, which might explain why ghosts from the Realms tend to have such a distinct look.
There are still many places in the Realms where no human soul has ever been - like the Far Frozen, with its Yeti population - but with how many people die every day (and especially if we consider other universes such as DC or Marvel into the equation and just how often they face Universe-ending threats), more and more outside souls keep finding themselves in the Realms.

I feel Phoenix Wright is among the characters who are like,
"If I didn't have constant anxiety, it'd be over for you."
He already seems impossible from the outside in canon when he's often a nervous wreck. Imagine if that anxiety wasn't there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Take a look at these three sprites for a second. (It takes a little while, but I promise you'll see the relevance.) They're the confident/smiling forward facing for each person. And... there's some interesting similarities, yes? AJ-era Phoenix's sprite is pretty close to being a perfect mix of Godot and Mia's. His hands in his pockets, midway between Mia's crossed arms and Godot's hands on hips. They're all angling their bodies slightly to the side in the same direction. Mia's head is tilted the opposite way and forward a little; Godot's in line with his shoulders and back; Phoenix is in line with his shoulders but closer to Mia's angle. Heck, even color wise - it's definitely more of a stretch but Phoenix has on a dark jacket and necklace like Mia, but his hat is closer in color to Godot's shirt, and it is also noticeable/bright headwear like the mask.
The reason I bring up these sprites is because... well, in AJ we see Phoenix from the outside for the first time and he really does seem very inscrutable. Knowing him, he's definitely still feeling a lot of anxiety over things, but he doesn't show it and thus we the players don't see it, since he's no longer our POV. I think there are a couple factors at play there as well, because Phoenix certainly seems to have gotten better at hiding his flopsweat moments in that game. You could say there's a certain element of detachment, because despite all his machinations, in the end he isn't a lawyer for any part of that game and so ultimately, the responsibility is no longer his. Maybe that's a factor.
But AJ-era Phoenix (or 'Beanix') keeps coming to mind for me. I realized a few months ago that in that game, his relationship to Kristoph (and the plot itself as well as Apollo) strongly mimics Mia's with Dahlia. However, looking at these sprites got me thinking that he also mimics Godot.
AJ-era Phoenix also returns after a long absence from the legal world, which was forced upon him due to the actions of a poisoner who successfully tricked him (Godot actually got poisoned, Phoenix just disbarred). And when he next shows up in court, he is visibly very different (mask and hair vs. beanie/hoodie). He's also a lot more jaded, and takes an interest in a young new attorney closely linked to the poisoner responsible for his absence. He's secretive, often for what seems like no purpose at all, but has a plan that's only revealed in the final case - which itself was a combination of somewhat longterm planning/buildup, and adapting to unexpected situations right at the last minute. He takes risks and works outside the courtroom/sometimes the law to achieve his goal (the bloody ace isn't exactly the same as stabbing Misty Fey, but, y'know), and in general appears quite different from his past self. However, in the end his goals are very sympathetic, and much more than just simple 'revenge', however morally dubious some of his choices have been.
Obviously, Beanix is not one-to-one with Godot. But I can see a rough sketch of similarities there, and certainly in general attitude/vibe they're more similar than Phoenix and Mia seem to be at that point. Even some of the things Godot says seem like they could be a Beanix quote (this came to mind). I think there's at least enough to go on to say that AJ-era Phoenix is once again a mix of Mia and Godot.
I find this interesting because Phoenix looked up to Mia right from the beginning, and modeled so much of his behavior, strategies, and philosophies after her. And yet, she just as obviously learned a lot from Diego, back when she was the inexperienced new lawyer. The most notable being, of course, the quote passed down to Mia and then Phoenix: "A lawyer only cries when it's all over." (Another Godot quote that seems to apply to Beanix is this one.) And the thing is, Phoenix looks up to Mia so much, and she generally seems pretty knowledgeable and unflappable, but once we get inside her head/play a few cases as her we see she has a lot of nervousness hidden behind her facade, much like Phoenix. Of course, those cases were when she was a rookie attorney, but I think the point stands. Godot also reveals a heck of a lot of issues and self-recrimination later on, but for the most part he's really good at seeming very confident. It's another similarity between all of them.
And yet, Godot's problems are more personal. When it comes to the courtroom, he's actually pretty legitimately confident for the most part. At least, I think so. He loses every case we see him try, but it's not for a lack of ability so much as a lack of care. His strategies are good, if unorthodox for a prosecutor (because he's acting more like a defence attorney). He knows what he's doing in court, and although he definitely gets surprised/owned at times, for the most part he's pretty unflappable and fairly quick to recover. Basically, this meta by @theggning is great and I'm trying to restate it briefly, but go read the whole thing. I also think there's a great argument to be made for Mia being quite similar in court. Less cryptic shenanigans, but the same type of underlying confidence in her abilities/craft to back up her determination to protect her clients. Unfortunately, we've never seen her in a case outside of her rookie ones/being a ghost during brief points in Phoenix's trials, so I can't point to specifics as much.
ALL OF THIS TO SAY... as soon as I read your ask, I thought of Godot. I thought of Mia, too. I think that "a more confident Phoenix" would be a lot more similar to the both of them, than to anyone else. You could even say it's a natural extension of his arc, and that it's at least somewhat represented in AJ. In a funny way, you can also read that very same game's events as the reason why he doesn't seem as confident as you might expect him to be once he returns to law in Dual Destinies (his failure with the ace/getting disbarred leading to being somewhat unfamiliar in the courtroom after so long, the pressure of living up to his reputation, the heavy responsibility of protecting his clients again, etc. - you know, vs. the writers just wanting to go back to lawyer!Phoenix and not always thinking too much about his characterization during AJ and how that would develop when they did so). But certainly during AJ, especially from Apollo's outside perspective, I think we get a lot closer to the image of a supremely confident Phoenix Wright.
At least as far as I picture it! I don't think it would make too much difference in terms of him being unstoppable - since like you said, he pretty much already is. But there would be even fewer cracks for his opponents to poke at, and his mistakes wouldn't cut him down as much as they do in trilogy-era. He would inspire the same type of reactions as Godot did when he first appeared... a lot of people feeling intimidated and noticing just how well he seems to know his way around the courtroom, or people getting caught up in his pace and listening to him even sometimes outside their best interests. And, like Mia in the first game with Redd White, he'd scare villains enough to cause issues, probably. But at least he might (also like established lawyer Mia) actually be able to get his clients to pay him well, enough to buy fancy glass lamps if he wanted.

I've mentioned in on Discord. But I keep thinking that the photo of Cassie's family is up in the ceiling, where she's also banished the distorted paper archetypes of her friends. The friends she painted worse retroactively so she can excuse why she's alone.
Cassie has put them out of sight as not to be hurt again. And with the parallels that the photo shares the space with the Psychic 7, that likely means that whatever happened, her parents didn't just 'ditch' her as part of Cassie says. Of course, they were still imperfect. They likely were in dire straits and couldn't support her as much as they wished to. They were trying their best. They loved her. That's at least my headcanon.
Cassie's parents are such a mystery to me in just the fact we DO get to see them, I like this read that Cassie's stowing away some unresolved issues and complicated feelings about them and not confronting them any time soon especially since I Have To Imagine they're dead. or if not dead at least old as heck & across the sea, so probably not very easy to contact.
I agree it seems like Cassie's family was less malicious and more just struggling to support their daughter, especially since it seems like Cassie's mom is pregnant in that photo? Like, not confirmed, but she's got a bump and putting her hand there I feel like that's signaling the obvious read of a second kid on the way... I've wanted to try imagining what Cassie's hypothetical sibling might be like, but I honestly struggle a lot trying to imagine what Cassie's childhood was like in general, I think because it does just kind of start at the counterfieting shop in my mind. Curious what other ppl would think her early childhood might be like

One of the things that I love about how you wrote Vakama in mask Masker? He defies his creators who always sought to do undo their mistakes completely, one way or another. As if they never happened. Instead of healing the damage they inflicted and learning from their mistakes.
Vakama says, no more. No more trying to act as if it never happened. It reminded me of his conversation with Onewa back when they were Toa Metru. When they went to that giant conveyer belt where tools and masks would be destroyed.
"It keeps us from learning from our mistakes. We just melt them down and make them go away."
I'm glad that theme rang true for you! That particular idea developed slowly over the course of writing the story, thinking about why exactly the GBs would want something like a Mask of Time, and what they might use it for. There's a contrast then between how the GBs want to do things, and what their creation(s) choose to do instead. Thanks for the feedback--it means a lot! :]

Second part of the ask. Or rather, how would their stories shift in that genre? (Since cyberpunk is a genre, not a setting. I apologize for the confusion.)
Hello!!
I realized I partly already answered this in the first part of the ask, but in the genre itself specifically, I think their motivations for how they move in the world would be very different as well. In the original world of Compromised, they live under a monarchy, of which Raina is a major player being the heir to the throne while Iskander lives under her reign, but also has his own job and life separately outside of that. For Raina, she would move about in accordance with what her father or her advisors would do whereas for Iskander, he would move and do things depending on what would help his family and later in the story, Raina as well.
Whereas in Shifting Gears, because the world is so dependent on people intermingling their lives and worth into what they provide to Pixicity, I think there would be restriction for what Raina can do but in the sense of not jeopardizing her job, rather than her royal status in this setting.
For Iskander, I think his motivations would largely remain the same in the sense of caring for his family and doing what's best for them, to whatever it takes, even if it means going against Pixie Technologies.
I think if I were to do a similar plot of Iskander being hired to protect Raina, I could see Raina hiring Iskander to protect her when she notices how he's not scared to go against Pixie Technologies and offering him help to get the city's resources in exchange!
TY FOR THE ASKS AGAIN!! THIS IS SO SWEET

If I may ask, how do Thinkerprints actually work? And what is so special about Truman's that the scanners didn't recognize you know who?
The simple answer I could think of starts off with the thought that ThinkerPrints scans work like a barcode scanner whenever it scans a person, detecting the brain/brainwaves (or other ThinkerPrints), which is then used to identify the person and their identity as recorded in the system.
Instances of ThinkerPrint usage
Motherlobe Receptionist - taking a picture of Raz and giving him new intern access to the building
Hollis - giving Raz access to the Mailroom
'Truman' -  giving Raz ‘full access’ to the Motherlobe (exception to ‘Senior-staff only’ mailroom, which is funny considering you know who)
[technically not thinkerprint but the amulet seem to have a similar function in it] Otto - Checking for the brain in Nick’s body
The ThinkerPrints seem to respond after a slight prompt on it by the person, likely detecting brainwaves so that even non-psychic can use it to do all sort of stuff with whatever specific task they had in mind.
Thinking back on these descriptions by our local old nerds...
Psychonauts 1: Description of Psitanium
“Psitanium is a very rare, psychoreactive mineral that crashed here on a meteorite hundreds of years ago. It responds to psychic waves. Focuses them, amplifies them.
It can make psychics more psychic, but it can also make unstable people more unstable. Not everyone can handle that much activity in that part of their brain. It can drive them completely out of their gourd.” - Ford Cruller
Psitanium affects both psychic and non-psychic, even normal person got something going on in that part of their brain. So the ThinkerPrints probably isn’t limited to psychic waves to activate, likely modified for brainwaves to allow non-psychics to use it. I mean, there has to be a way to detect them since this kind of tech is put on doorways.
So really it is a fancy brain ID that gives off some signal to do all kind of stuff.
It is possible that it also a record of the brain-print of the person who is suppose to own it. If so then that may be how Gristol disguised himself from scans, if they bothered to check the brain like that (though doubt it, but anyway). I had a similar musing on another post that is somewhat related how it might’ve disguised Gristol.
Psychonauts 2: How the machines make contact with [a person’s] mind [?]
“The secret is Psitanium. It’s a psychoreactive quartz-like mineral that respnds to and amplifies, psychic energy. It vibrates with the psychic waves, driving the machines." - Otto Mentallis
Meanwhile, whatever is used to check up on Truman’s body had to be some different tool that most likely be something along the lines of detecting levels of psilirium waves/energy instead. Of course this is only speculation, since we never really got to see how they did the Medical check-up.
We have not seen the effects of having both psitanium and psilirium nearby at the same time. They probably give off different readings or something and do something funky with psi-tech results.
Anyway, I think it would be a different tool of detection specifically for psilirium, or something for psilirium poisoning. It could be like the opposite of what reads for psitanium or brainwaves, kinda like the difference of infrared to ultraviolet from the visual spectrum and how we see those except this time its for psychic energy. Probably something of the opposite to the Security Cameras we see detecting psychics. Or like a pn1 dowsing rod but for psilirium.
We don’t really know how non-psychics are affected by psilirium. We see it causing delirium and constrict the psychic abilities for psychics. We don’t really know how exactly it affects plants and animals, but the most I can point out is the RoR Jellyfish having Brains. (The Fishes are Dr. Loboto’s experiments so we don’t really know the extent his work vs bring affected by psilirium.)
Psilirium probably dampens brainwaves, or maybe just psychic energies. Maybe it absorbs it or slows it down like molasses. The after effects of it could be like waiting for something pressed down to stretch back to its original size. So recovering from it would probably be leaving the lingering psilirium to wave off and let the person rest and gather their strength back.
Really if they did a brain scan or if the entire time of pn2 didn’t happen within a single day, then this part of the plan could’ve easily fallen apart. Like one would wonder how ‘Truman’ is still down and probably would’ve notice how off he is behaving if he acted more than a minute and says the stuff he says to people who would know Truman better. He could’ve gotten more tests or even a brain dive -- and poof goes that facade.
---------
Apologies if this post is a bit confusing. Due to the amount of time between the beginning of thinking of a response to this to actually writing this entire post, it got a bit muddled.
BUT point is, ThinkerPrints is like a fingerprint that is specifically to scan identity VS a medical examination, which is to check ailments and status. It isn’t really the same thing being looked at.
Test results don’t always give off every piece of information, sometimes it just gives off the specific thing that is being asked. It’s like asking a person to count all the squares on collection of things, then asking another person to look for reds on a collection of things, they’d focus on that specific thing instead of anything else. If you suddenly asked the person anything else other than what you asked them to focus on, then they’d probably didn’t notice it since they were looking for something specific and ignored/gave less attention to everything else.

What does Ingo struggle with when he leaves the Rhombus? He probably has long-term psilirium poisoning that might affect him even after he gets snapped out of the hallucinations.
HMM, i wouldn't be surprised if there were remnants of the poisoning still plaguing his part of their shared mind. maybe that's where some of the enemies come in, like doubts, and the judge

I don't have a RP blog, so I hope this is okay for the ask meme? "Shit my brother has said / done"
❛ ____ It’s dark and I hear laughing. ❜
"I can only fix one of those problems." Gawain shifted with a quiet clank to brace himself up on one knee. His little companions had scattered somewhere between the blackout and the gunfire, and while he knew they would be alright (as he doubted normal bullets could kill a ghost), he wished he had at least one of them still with him.
Most humans couldn't take more than one armored punch to the jaw, but Chopper's blade form was by far a much more intimidating deterrent.
"Unfortunately, remedying the darkness issue may draw the attention of the one laughing, so we may want to remain within it's shelter, for now." He shifted to face the civilian crouching with him behind the overturned desk, just barely able to make out their features in the dim light cast by the mystical flame (now little more than embers, without his companions around) on his helmet. "Are you injured anywhere?"

What's your favorite Vivi headcanon?
((This was a tough one. I think I finally narrowed it down to the headcanon that Vivi's grandmother had Mystery as her 'dog' when she was a girl.
The whole idea of Mystery hiding out with the Yukino family line after the passing of the Mushi is something I really like, in general. We don't really have any information on why or how Mystery ended up back with a descendant of Mushi when he probably could have just left, so the fact that so many people have him stick around out of some sense of duty or family (or, in some cases, magical, life-lesson-teaching punishment) is pretty neat, and I vibe with it!))

I'd just remembered the hilarious potential of Phoenix I'm Indestructible Wright shenanigans when in the Leverage crossover. XDDD Just imagine the chaos of the Team witnessing Phoenix casually surviving impossible things.
Now I'm just picturing the crossover starting with them meeting one another when Parker is driving getaway and runs into Phoenix at speed, flinging him across the street and into a telephone pole, and knocking him out.
They stop the getaway to try and help him, of course, so when he wakes up it's to Eliot fighting off goons while other team members are trying to give him first aid/load him into Lucille to get to a hospital.
He has a slightly sprained ankle, and a bit of a headache, but otherwise he's fine.

I just realized that Cassie having to wash her hair later wouldn't be needed anymore because of the honey. As much as it sucks, Maligula's water hurricane would've drenched her and her hair completely and washed the honey away. But then she needed to untangle it from leaves and twigs. Ford whipped out his barber items.
Everyone got a free hair wash but at what cost
Fr those I can imagine that could maybe get most of the honey gunk out but it feels less like a solution and more like that’s more an excuse Cassie or Bob would use to go “no look see my hair IS clean now put the scissors away” even tho those 2 both really genuinely not to dunk on them need soap and hot water

I love your headcanons about an assigned hierarchy of the AI in the Mata System! My favorite bits were about the Kaita.
Mentioning fusions, if the academics post reformation would analyze fusions, how would they do so about Matoran Nui and Turaga Nui? And the theoretical Toa Nui?
Hm...they would probably put manifestations like the Matoran and Turaga Kaita/Nui in a similar category as "disembodied intelligences"; however, this brings up an interesting concept in relation to the postulated hierarchy of Mata < Uta < Kuta < Auta:
Since Matoran were designed by the GBs as non-self-actualizing automatons (Auta-class), I guess I'd expect that a Matoran Kaita or Matoran Nui would also be at the same level, originally. In other words, prior to the "awakening", Matoran units would form into a Kaita or Nui in order to accomplish some greater task, but that composite being would still be an automaton.
This is different from how it works with self-actualizing beings like Toa, however. When the Toa Mata form a Kaita (so the headcanon goes), the result "goes up" on the hierarchy, Kuta > Uta. In other words, a composition of "awakened" beings is greater than the sum of its parts in some qualitative way. I'd assume a Turaga Kaita or Turaga Nui would be similar, since they are also "awakened".
Now, once the "awakening" takes its course in Matoran populations, blurring or abolishing the lines between Auta-class and Kuta-class, what would happen when Matoran form a Nui? Would this result in a similar "greater than the sum of parts" outcome? If the elevation is Auta > Kuta, then administratively, such a being would now have the same "authority" within the Mata System as a Kuta-class intelligence (like a Toa). I believe Matoran Nui at least are described as having strength comparable to a Toa, so this would fit...
Interestingly, if "greater than the sum of parts" is the general outcome of the fusion of "awakened" beings, this might explain why a Toa Nui is described as being potentially at the same level as Mata Nui (and why one was never or could never be formed). If a Toa Kaita raises the administrative level Kuta > Uta, then a Toa Nui might show an even more exponential increase in power/authority, going from Kuta to Uta, all the way up to Mata-class.
