The woman that stared back at you in the cracked mirror was someone you barely recognised in that moment. It was surreal that a purple dress hung loosely on your body, your hair pinned to how you wanted it, and the make-up that decorated your face was hiding the heavy bags and stressed acne that the past few months brought. Everyone thought it was deranged to have a wedding in the current times, when the wizarding world was falling apart, but everyone also knew they needed a distraction. People needed one night to themselves before everything went wild. ‘The calm before the storm,’ Arthur Weasley forced a smile during the conversation at dinner a week ago.
“The calm before the storm,” you whispered to yourself, trying to zip your dress up from behind with unnecessary struggle. You have been sharing a room with Hermione and Ginny for the past week, helping Molly prepare for the wedding and calming Fleur down in moments of madness. Walking over to the ajar door, you called out Hermione’s name and when there was a steady silence that followed, you tried Ginny’s. But no one answered your calls for help until a head popped out from the room just above you, looking over the ballister.
“Everything okay, love?” Out of everyone that was scattered around the house, of course it had to be Fred Weasley. It wasn’t that you disliked him or held any cynical feelings towards the older boy, it was the complete opposite in fact. When you met his younger brother, Ron, on the train during your first year at Hogwarts, you never expected to fall madly in love with his family member. It was hard not to fall for Fred when he introduced you, and at first you pushed it off as a crush but here you were, nearly seven years later, with a blush painting your cheeks and the nauseous butterflies swirling in your stomach.
“I’m okay, have you seen Hermione anywhere?” you called up to him, trying to calm your heart before it jumped out of your chest - that would be a gory sight that you weren’t ready for.
“I heard mum call them out help with the decorations,” Fred replied.
“Great, Ginny as well?”
“Yes, y/n,” An amused smirk tugged on his lips, watching your eyes dart between the stairs and his face. He found it entertaining that you couldn’t keep eye contact with him, after seven years of knowing each other he would have thought that you’d have warmed up to him by now. “Do you need my help?” Before you could make any noises of protest, Fred was already bouncing down the steps to your door.
You knew there was no use in objecting to his offer, you had to get your dress zipped up before going downstairs and if he was the only person available to help, you’d have to suck your feelings up and get on with it. You brushed your hair over your shoulder, exposing your bare back, and turned so that Fred would understand what you needed help with. Because your back was to him, you missed the way he gulped at the sight of you, a red tint painting his cheeks. You gasped as his fingers trailed over your back, and he muttered an apology about his cold flesh but it wasn’t that that made you lose complete control, it was the fireworks igniting in your stomach at him touching you. The dress slowly started to tighten around your body, hugging your curves nicely as he zipped it up agonisingly slow.
“Thank you, Fred,” you mumbled when he finished, taking one big step to create as much distance between your bodies as humanly possible.
A small smile rested on his lips, his eyes flickering over your figure, “You look beautiful, y/n.”
“Thank you,” you repeated, and you used this opportunity to take in his own appearance. He had his flaming red hair brushed back neatly, and the way the hair contrasted against his black suit made him look even more dashing than he usually did. “You look very handsome, Fred.”
Fred bowed playfully, making you roll your eyes and giggle, before accepting his outstretched arm and letting him walk you down the stairs to join the other. You caught the eye of Ginny who gave you a wide eyed look, sneaking a wink in your direction when Fred bid you a quick goodbye before dancing out to where George and his other brothers were getting ready to lift the marquee.
“What was that?” Ginny swayed to your side, she bumped your shoulder with her own.
“Nothing, he just helped me with my dress when you were no where to be found,” you snapped playfully, walking out to the garden and taking in a deep breath of the fresh air.
Ginny filled her mouth with a pig in blanket, wiping away the crumbs to hide the evidence. “Oh, I heard you, I just knew Fred would be there as well.”
“Ginny!” you gasped, the sudden outburst made George and Fred glance in your direction, but you didn’t notice, too focused on their little sister being a minx. “Will you ever stop playing cupid? It didn’t work last year, it won’t work this year.”
“You two are both just stupid, you’re in love with each other and won’t do anything about it.”
“She’s not wrong you know?” Harry chimed up, stepping out of the door behind you and you shot him a glare.
“What’s this? Gang up on y/n day?”
“That’s everyday,” Harry smiled, complimenting you before turning his attention to Ginny. You rolled your eyes at the pair, who were they to talk about being too oblivious to notice when someone was in love with you?
After a beautiful ceremony that announced Bill and Fleur newlyweds, the golden chairs that decorated the tent slowly started to disappear and the walls that kept all the guests inside opened up, highlighting the beautiful orange sky that was settling over the countryside. You excused yourself to go back inside the Burron, embarrassed of the tears that were streaming down your cheeks. Weddings always made you cry, it was a weakness that you never wanted people to know. The thought of two people expressing their love and promising to spend the rest of their lives together made you emotional.
When you returned, the party was in full swing. You scanned the crowd, seeing Ron and Hermione dancing together, well Hermione was the one dancing. You couldn’t make out what Ron was doing, it was a mix of a jig and a waltz, his arms swaying in the strangest of directions. You spotted the disguised Harry talking to Luna Lovegood, sending a small wave her way when she caught your eye. You tried to look busy, hoping she wouldn’t make her way over to you. When you spotted Fred, your heart leaped with an ache at the sight of him dancing with a distant cousin of Fleur’s. You tried not to focus on how beautiful she was, her long blonde hair swaying as Fred laughed and spun her around. You quickly grabbed a glass of Elderflower wine off the tray as the waiter passed you, downing it in one gulp.
“Slow down there, princess,” George smiled at you as he walked with you to an empty table, but before you could take a seat, he grabbed your hand and dragged you over to the dancefloor.
“George, you know I don’t dance,” you whined, pouting up at the taller boy.
“You can stand on my feet, I’ll do the moves,” You hated how you were so comfortable with George yet you could barely string a full sentence when Fred was around. You tried your best to follow George’s lead before you gave up and stood on his toes, his feet a lot bigger than yours.
You let him spin you around, laughing at his comments about the women’s hairpieces and how he wondered if he was at a wedding or a zoo. It was a lighthearted conversation, something that you needed to distract you from his twin dancing with an angel on the other side of the room. Everytime George spun, your eyes automatically found Fred’s figure, the curiosity getting the best of you. George stopped spinning you, his back to Fred as you found yourself looking over his shoulder at him.
“He’ll come to his senses soon,” your eyes flickered to George’s, feigning confusion but yu knew exactly what he was talking about. “He feels the same as you do, he’s just in denial.”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” A bellowed laugh erupted from George’s lungs, his red hair bouncing as he shook his head in amusement. “Shut up, G,” you hissed, as curious eyes landed on the pair of you.
“You think I don’t know how you feel about my brother? It’s painfully obvious, love,” you groaned at his words, the dancing soon stopped.
“Then what’s wrong with me? Wh-Why doesn’t he like me?”
“Have you ever told him?” George questioned, the frown on your face giving him his answer, “And he does like you, it’s disgustingly cute. Trust me, the sooner you two get together the better. I can’t keep losing sleep because he can’t make up his mind on which way to tell you.”
“Really?” you piped up, any doubt you’ve been experiencing over the last twenty minutes completely vanished. George reassured you, about to make another comment when a bolt of blue flickering light ceased any further excitement. It took you a moment to notice the patronus in the centre of the dancefloor.
“The Ministry has fallen. Scrimgeour is dead. They are coming.”
In a heartbeat, chaos erupted around you. Guests were yelling for their partners, others disapparating as far away from the Burrow as possible, and your wide eyes glancing up at George as the Death Eaters stormed the marquee. You pushed through the crowd, your fingers intertwining with George’s as your eyes scanned the crowd trying to find the missing twin. Spells were being casted from every angle, members of the Order protecting guests but they were too strong. A hand grabbing your free arm made you jump in surprise, but relief washed over you when Fred’s eyes connected with yours. Immediately, you felt safe.
Hours had passed, each member of the Order getting interrogated by the Death Eaters that swarmed the reception. You had excused yourself from the worried eyes of the Weasley family, and the tears spilled from your eyes the moment you shut the door to the bedroom. You knew you were being watched so you tried to stay away from the window, sliding down the uneven wall and bringing your knees to your chest. Your heart was beating rapidly due to the fear washing over you.
The door to the bedroom creaked open, Fred popping his head in as he sent you a sad smile. “Are you hurt?” he asked, sitting down across from you. His long legs folded in front of you, the blood drizzling from a cut just above his eyebrow.
“M-my wrist is sore, it could have been worst…” you whispered, you were thankful that everyone was safe and no one was harmed as much as you would have expected from the Death Eaters. "How is everyone downstairs?"
Fred sighed, his head hanging, "Everyone is a bit shook up but at least we're alive."
An unexpected sob passed by your lips, your hands visibly shaking at his words. The thought of losing anyone in this house sent shivers down your spine, but you only just realised now that it is a possibility. Someone could have died tonight, someone could die tomorrow night. The war was happening and there was nothing you could do about it. "W-we're only kids," you sobbed, unconsciously falling into Fred's side as his arms immediately wrapped around you. He nuzzled his head into your hair, muttering words of reassurance as he let you cry on the floor. His fingers rubbed circles around your bare arms, the dress that was once so beautifully ironed creased and torn at the ends.
Silence stretched around the room, the sound of your sobs echoing off the four walls. Fred thought carefully about the words he spoke next, he was fearful that he had left it too late. But the possibility of not making it out alive settled within him tonight, the fear of taking his feelings for you to the grave overcame the fear of being rejected by you. "Y/n, I have to tell you something."
You leaned your body back from him, panic written across your features but the light smile on his face seized any worries. "What is it?" You whispered, moving to lean on your knees beside him. Your heart was pounding against your chest, you were praying and hoping that this was going in the direction you’ve dreamt about for years.
Fred heaved a heavy sigh, his head falling back to hit against the beige wallpaper with a bang but he didn't care. His eyes stared into yours, watching how your tongue danced across your bottom lip and how your eyes were flickering from his to his mouth. There were no words to explain how he truly felt about you. Instead of speaking, Fred jumped forward and connected his lips to yours within seconds. Your eyes were wide, his were too but when neither of you pulled away, your eyes fluttered closed and you relaxed into his body.
His arms lay limp at his side before you shuffled closer to him and he brought his hands to cup your face. You shifted to rest both of your knees on either side of his body, the kiss deepening and it was everything you dreamed of. You lost count of the amount of times that you’ve dreamt about this moment, the countless nights you’d stare at the ceiling hoping and wishing that this would happen. When the fight for air became too much, you pulled away from Fred. A twinkle appeared in his eyes, his lips twitching to a smile as he breathed out in disbelief.
“Why did it take you so long to do that?” you asked, your hand caressing over his face as you brushed away a couple of strands of his hair.
A pink blush settled over Fred’s cheeks, and he sighed placing his hands on your waist. “If anything happens to me, I just wanted you to know how I feel about you.”
The reality of what was happening slowly draped over your shoulders, your heart heavy knowing that blood will be lost during the upcoming war. The thought of losing Fred when you’ve only just got him made you want to never let go of him, the idea of running away and leaving flashed through your thoughts but you knew you couldn’t. Neither of you would abandon the people you loved. “We’ll get out of this alive, all of us.”
The look Fred gave you made your heart shatter into tiny unmendable pieces. You were living in a dream, and you knew it, but you wanted to hold onto hope until you took your last breaths whether they come in two months from now or twenty years. “Some of us have already died, there will be more to come.” It hurt Fred to speak the truth, the thought of losing you was something he wasn’t equipped to deal with just yet.
“Can we just have tonight then?” you whispered, looking longingly into his eyes as you brought your lips to his again. He nodded into the kiss, his hands trailing up and down your body as he brought you closer to him. He’d die happy if it was in this moment.

Pairing: Zuko x Ama (OC)
Word Count: 3300+
.☽☼☾.
Ama waited in the gardens for what seemed like hours. When I'm reality, it's only been sometime over thirty minutes. She tried to pass the time by reading, but after a while she gave up. She furrowed her eyebrows and looked around the garden. There was the pond, the pavilion, the trees. But no Zuko.
He was usually there in the morning to talk and be with each other until he had to get to his Fire Lord duties. He was never late. In fact, the only times that he wasn't in the gardens in the morning was when Ama wasn't there either.
With a huff, Ama closed her book and walked back inside where the closest guard would be. "Good morning, Officer Chasu. How is are you?" She greeted the officer with a chirpy tone and a warm smile.
"I am doing well, Lady Ama. Thank you for asking." The tall soldier responded. He didn't break his stance for a moment, but he gave the waterbender a smile. She was always friendly and kind to the people working at the palace, and everyone appreciated it.
"Have you by any chance seen the Fire Lord?" It felt weird to address Zuko that way, but Ama knew that when address people in power and other people formally she had to use proper etiquette.
"I- you haven't heard?" He asked in confusion.
Ama's head tilted and her eyebrows furrowed. "Heard what?"
"Fire Lord Zuko left his morning to Yu Dao." He told her.
"He left?!" She couldn't help the frustrated tone that left her mouth. "Without telling me? Goodness, I swear..." She held her tough. The waterbender couldn't really speak freely in the middle of the palace after all. Turning back to the guard, Ama gave him a grateful smile. "Thank you, Officer Chasu. Have a great rest of your day."
         "Likewise, Lady Ama." He replied.
Ama walked away, into the long, silent hallway. How can he leave like that? No warning. No note. Nothing. A long breath escaped through her mouth and she fiddled with her nails. It was like a needle in the heart.
She knew he was stressed. He refused to talk about work with her no matter how much she insisted to help. But that didn't mean he could leave without a word. An idea popped into Ama's head. A way to help out.
Her pace quickened, hurrying back to her room to write a letter.
.☽☼☾.
A whole week passed when Zuko returned back to the Royal Palace. His feet hit the floor with heavy steps. He was tired and overwhelmed.
Ama found him in the throne room. "So the Fire Lord has returned." She spoke up by the door.
Zuko turned around, seeing the Water Tribe girl approach him with a frown. "Ama." He started, walking towards her as well. "The mob outside Yu Dao is gone. For now, at least, the Fire Nation citizens are safe."
The girl furrowed her eyebrows, she didn't even know what he was talking about. And as much as she wanted to ask about what was happening in Yu Dao, there was a different thought on her mind.
"You left without saying anything to me!" She growled. "I had to figure out where you were by one of the guards!" Zuko looked at the ground and stayed silent. "Zuko, I've told you. If you're having problems you're suppose to talk to me. I'm you girlfriend for crying out loud."
"You're right." He sighed and Ama stepped closer to him. "It won't happen again."
Ama put her hand on his cheek her eyes observing his face. More specifically, the dark bags under his eyes. "You're still having trouble sleeping." She noted out loud.
         "Yeah." He admitted.
Ama took his hand leading him out the throne room. "You're bodyguards are fine, but I mean, you're Fire Lord now. You need the best of the best." She moved the red curtain to the side, revealing five Kyoshi warriors. Two of which were her good friends Suki and Ty Lee. "So I asked some friend to come help."
.☽☼☾.
Ama enjoyed reading. She didn't get to do it often during the war, but after, she found herself engrossed in a good fantasy or mystery. But reading the laws and the history of the Fire Nation left her bored. She found herself zoning out and then having to re-read certain passages.
The sound of footsteps caught her attention. Looking over, Ama saw Suki walking through the library. "Oh, thank goodness." Ama grinned. "I need a distraction." Closing the scroll, Ama leaned her head in the palm of her hand.
"Ama there's something you should know." Suki's serious and hesitant tone make Ama sit upright and her grin disappeared. "Zuko has been visiting Ozai."
"What? Why?" Ama wondered. That didn't make sense. At least, she didn't want it to make sense. She wondered if what she feared was actually happening. If Zuko was starting to turn into his father.
"I don't know. He didn't tell anyone about it." Suki answered. "I was hoping that you could talk to him about it. Just to make sure that-"
"I know." Ama interrupted Suki. She quiet for a minute before she stood up from her seat. "I'm going to talk to him." The Kyoshi Warrior watched as Ama walked out of the library.
The waterbender found Zuko in the throne room, yet again. This time he stood on the stage for the throne. The fire in front of the throne was lit with a thick flame. She learn him mutter "this isn't me." before he got rid of the fire.
Walking forward, Ama revealed herself on the lower floor. "I know you've been meeting with Ozai secretly." She said up front.
"Ama! Who did you hear that from?" He looked surprised to see her.
"Not from you, that's who." She snapped with a light scoff.
Zuko sighed, shutting his eyes tightly. "I know I've been distant, Ama. I'm sorry. I- I love you."
The way he begged, the way he stumbled in his words, he sounded distressed. "Zuko. I just need you to talk to me." Ama told him. Her voice was soft, caring, soothing. Zuko felt safe when hearing her speak.
"I'm been getting advice from him father." He started. Surprisingly, Ama didn't react badly. She looked at the ground in thought, but allowed for him to continue. "I just, I need to protect my people. The people of Yu Dao, they have lives, families. I can't break that up. I went to him for guidance."
"He want's me to be fierce. Show no mercy. But, I know I need to wait." He said firmly. "Listen to Earth King Kuei first. But I worry that thing might go into a different direction."
"You know I'm just worried about you." Ama told him. "I just want to know what's going on. You never let me in." Zuko was quiet. He opened his mouth to say something, but a new voice came into the room.
"Fire Lord Zuko." A general spoke respectfully and bowed on one knee.
"General Mak!" Zuko was expecting for the general to visit and anxious to hear what he had to say.
"A message has arrived from the spies you sent to the Earth Kingdom." He reported.
"You sent spies?" Ama sounded surprised, but at this point, she didn't know if she should be.
"Your suspicions are confirmed." The general continued. "The Earth King's army now marches towards Yu Dao."
"Father, you were right." Zuko mumbled to himself. Ama gasped. Another war? Over a city? King Kuei wasn't willing to talk. He believed that Zuko was completely turning back on his promise That he wasn't honoring the end of the war.
Zuko immediately started barking orders, setting up a meeting for that day. The intent was to prepare to meet the Earth Kingdom's troops. To protect his people.
"Zuko..." Ama started as the general started to walk away.
"I understand that you may not want violence, Ama, but I have to do this. For my people." Zuko interrupted her.
Ama shook her head. "You're not going alone." She spoke firmly. Zuko was surprised at her position. After all, the Harmony Restoration Movement was an idea that she agreed with strongly before. But now, it seemed she had a change of heart.
And she did change her mind. Hearing about the families that would be broken up. The entire cities society could collapse. She could stand by and let that happen. She'd stand by Zuko. She didn't always understand his methods, like the part where he kept secrets. But she trusted him enough.
.☽☼☾.
Ama rode on a Komodo rhino beside, but a few feet behind, Zuko. He wore his traditional Fire Lord robes and armor, helmet and all, to meet the battle. Ama wore black clothing with blue accents on the hems. She didn't want to represent the Fire Nation Army, despite that being exactly what was happening.
"We don't look like ourselves." Ama muttered to herself. It felt so wrong to be going into battle again, especially with a Nation that wasn't hers. But she believed in what Zuko was saying. If the people in Yu Dao can't keep their families, can't keep their homes, their lives. What did that mean for her and Zuko?
Besides, it was King Kuei who sent the troop. He refused to hear the Fire Lord out. To understand why he was turning his back on the Harmony Restoration Movement.
So caught up in her conflicted mind, Ama didn't realize that they were at Yu Dao's gate until her rhino stopped. Taking in the scene, she was overwhelmed. The Earth King's army stood proudly on their ostrich-horses or in their tanks and King Kuei in an air balloon. In the middle was General How, along with Aang, Katara, some teenage girls in orange and protestors of Yu Dao from both sides of the argument. Then there was the Fire Nation army on the other side.
One of the Fire Nation tanks rolled up further than the others and stopped in the middle, by Aang and Katara. And the people who came out weren't Fire Nation soldiers, they were Toph and Sokka.
"Fire Lord?! What's going on?!" A general asked at the commotion.
"I'm not sure...!" Zuko answered, having to shout so that the general would hear him.
Katara and Ama caught each others eyes. The sisters shared a terrified and sympathetic look for each other. Ama saw that Katara wasn't angry at her, or betrayed. She looked understanding.
Something Toph must have said, made Katara turn away and argue with the little earthbender. Until Toph jumped down from her tank and the ground cracked towards the Fire Nation tanks. The bolts flew out form the wheels, making the tanks fall apart.
"Quickly, Earth Kingdom Troops, while the Fire Nation of in disarray! By Royal Decree, enter Yu Dao and arrest the colonials!" General How of the Earth Kingdom ordered.
"Fire Lord, our tanks-!" General Mak started, but there was no time.
"Soldiers of the Fire nation, defend our people in the city of Yu Dao! Your Fire Lord commands you!" Zuko commanded loudly. Ama took a deep breath in and out, keeping her place by Zuko.
"No!" Aang shouted, flying above the Fire Nation soldiers and landed in front of Zuko. But he flew up again, this time in the Avatar state. His eyes glowed it's blue-white and the air around him spun. "The Harmony Restoration Movement was such a simple plan! Why couldn't you just follow it through?"
Ama couldn't express how much gratitude she felt for Katara when she slid on ice over Ama's head and grabbing Aang out of the air. "Snap out of it Aang!" Ama let out a sight of relief that Aang didn't go through with his drastic promise.
But she couldn't just stand by anymore. Throwing her leg over the rhino, Ama spilled off the animal and onto the ground. But she bent water into ice to catch her and moved it forward with her on top. It created a slide-like structure with her at the front.
She landed on top of the city's wall where Katara and Aang were just talking. But the Avatar took his glider, leaving the situation to contemplate the issue. Katara turned, seeing her sister step off her ice-slide. "Ama." She sighed and embraced her sister. "This is all-"
"A mess." Ama finished. "I know."
"Let me see if I got this." Sokka's voice appeared. He, Suki and Toph took a rock elevator, so to speak, in order to meet the sisters on top of the wall. "The protestors and the Earth Kingdom army want the colonials to go, the Fire Nation Army wants the colonials to stay, and the Yu Dao Resistance just want their city to be left alone?"
"Yes!" Katara basically shouted in frustration.
"So where's Aang flying off to then?" He asked.
"He needs a place to be calm, to figure things out." Katara answered.
"What is there to figure out?!" Toph interjected, her tone was annoyed and angry. "If he wants harmony-" Ama rolled her eyes. Of course Toph would side with the Earth Kingdom army. She was an all or nothing kind of girl, and to her the Harmony Restoration Movement was only option.
"Look, I trust him!" Katara snapped to defend her boyfriend. "And after all we've been through, you ought to, too! So for now, we need to keep all those people down there from killing each other. Kind of like what Aang's fan club is trying to do."
"Aang has a fan club?" Ama asked in confusion, looking down at the battle and seeing girls in yellow Air Nomad clothing and red bandanas covering their foreheads and were half-bald.
"Yes, Ama. That's old news. Living in the Fire Nation has really got you out of the loop." Sokka shook his head in fake disappointment.
"Tell me about it." The oldest sibling grumbled.
"We need to split up!" Katara got them back on track. "Toph and Suki, you disarm as many Fire Nation troops as you can. Ama and I'll work on the Earth Kingdom soldiers."
"And I'll take care of the protestors!" Sokka early claimed the task for himself. "But how am I supposed to get down there?"
Toph bent the earth, creating a steep slide down the wall. "Here you go, Sokka." She crossed her arms smugly.
"Aw, not another one!" Sokka groaned and Ama could assume that Sokka has had unpleasant experiences with Toph's earth slides.
Ama and Katara gave each other a determined nod and both created slides of ice to get to the ground. They both stuck to using water whips in order to knock out and push back the Earth Kingdom soldiers.
Ama practiced regularly in order to maintain her chi. Her body flowed like water and her fighting looked so natural. Her water followed the flow of her hand, smacking the soldiers to the floor with it.
Katara looked up, seeing King Kuei's hot air balloon flying above their heads. "I'm going to try talking to the Earth King." Katara told her sister urgently. Without waiting for a response, the youngest sibling took off on a slide of ice.
With a grumble about how Katara was leaving her to deal with all the soldiers, Ama kept up her pace, focusing on keeping the Earth Kingdom soldiers back. Until minutes later, she, along with everyone else, was interrupted by a boom and a bright, blue light in the mountains.
Everyone in the battle looked at the light in awe. Aang in his Avatar state, with all the elements surrounding him in the form of a sphere. He flew between General How and Fire Lord Zuko, staring down at Zuko emotionlessly.
"Aang, I know how this looks!" Zuko pleaded with him, believed that Aang had the intent to fulfill his promise. "But I swear to you, in my heart...!" He stopped, sighing as he removed his helmet. "None of that matters, does it? I'm doing exactly what my father would have none."
The earth underneath Aang, between the two armies cracked and broke, creating a deep cavern. Zuko was too close to it, the earth under him fell, and so did he. "Zuko!" Ama shouted, running to the cavern.
Aang flew down, grabbing the Fire Lord by the wrist and flying him back up. As Aang sat him onto the ground gently, the Avatar state left him. Ama slid on the ground beside the shocked and confused Zuko. Her arms wrapped around him and she tightly hugged him.
"You gave me a heart attack. What the fuck, Zuko." She worried and pulled away. Zuko was too much in a state of shock to respond. He sat there, staring at absolutely nothing.
Ama looked over to her friends. King Kuei stood alone as Aang and Katara stood together in front of him. Along with Yee-Li, the daughter of the firebending mayor and an earthbender, her boyfriend, Sneers, and the rest of the Yu Dao resisters.
"Earth King Kuei, look at who you're fighting!" Aang demand for the king to look at the people around him. "Fire Nation, yes. But also Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe, and now, Air Nomad. This is who stands against your army."
"And against the Fire Nation army, too!" Sneers added.
"It took me a while but I finally understand, but I finally understand." Aang continued. "You're fighting a whole new kind of world."
King Kuei's eyebrows arched up, realizing that he may have been wrong. That he overreacted. The chants and shouts of the protestors interrupted his thoughts. "Don't listen to that ash-maker propaganda, Earth King Kuei! Harmony now!"
The Earth King held up his hand to silence them. "Quiet! Quiet! I need to see that I.. what I..." He turned to the resistance, seeing them stand strong together. From both the Fire Nation and the Earth Kingdom. "I just need to see."
While he looked around, Zuko was standing up slowly with Ama's assistance. "Zuko...?" Aang looked over at the Fire Lord.
Zuko was taking deep breaths in and out, trying to steady himself. "So I was right, then?" He was almost shocked that he made the correct decision. "All along... my decision... was right?"
His body was too overwhelmed and he passed out. Ama had her arm on his shoulder before, but as he fell, she moved her body in front of him so that he'd lean on her instead on being collapsed on the dirt floor.
"Zuko!" Aang exclaimed and ran over to the Fire Lord.
Ama looked from Aang to Zuko, her soft hand running through his hair. "He's okay, Aang." She assured him. "Our favorite Fire Lord has just exhausted himself."
"Let's take him to Iroh's." He suggested, which was likely the best option. "He can get some rest there." Ama nodded in agreement. They got Zuko onto Appa, took him to Ba Sing Se, and where Iroh eagerly allowed for Zuko to rest.
Standing outside and looking over the vast city, Ama felt the wind on her face. Only a year after the war ended, another one almost started. The world was changing. The nations couldn't just go back to being separate again. Yu Dao showed that.
Now, it was only a matter of time until something else came along. Until something else was hurled at them and their lives took another turn.

This might be the shortest chapter in the entire book, so that’s fun. lmao.

Forgive Or Forget V

Forgive or Forget V [Endings always lead to new beginings│Simon D&Christian Yu]
◇ Forgive or Forget I  ◇ Forgive or Forget II  ◇ Forgive or Forget III   ◇ Forgive or Forget IV
With Christian’s help you were able to grab everything from the house in just a few hours. You hadn’t even realized how many things you had until you were trying to pack. If it was solely up to you, you wanted to leave every single thing that Kiseok touched but Christian convinced you otherwise.
His car was loaded up with boxes of your things that you were going to place in storage until you could get a place of your own. After one final walk-through of the house you found yourself going through one of Kiseok’s drawers. One that had always piqued your interest, but you always stopped yourself from going through just so you didn’t ruin the surprise. You knew it was where he hid your gifts.
“I got the last of it in the car.” Christian stood by the doorway, watching you hold a small jewelry box.
You remained silent tracing the charms before scoffing. “It really was so obvious wasn’t it…?”
“What’s going on?” he walked closer to you, getting a better look at the box. In your hand, he saw a bunch of necklaces, all of the charms identical to the one around your neck.
“He really gave these necklaces to everyone… All this time I thought I was special...he played me…”
Christian rubbed your back softly. There were no words. Nothing he could say could comfort you, after years of betrayal it wasn’t his place to try and comfort you. He just needed to be there for you. “C’mere…” he pulled you into a warm hug.
You’d done well to slowly move on. You were completely moved out of Kiseok’s, blocked his number, and there was just one thing left to do. A Little something for yourself. The last bit of closure that you needed.
You made your way into the cafe closest to AOMG. One that you knew Kiseok’s secretary frequented for their coffee runs.
“Unnie...What are you doing here…?” Eunha stood at attention, dropping her pen before scrambling to give you a cordial smile. As if she hadn’t been lying to you for who knows how long.
“You were like a sister to me. We celebrated your birthday together, Christmas, I had you in my house...All this time I thought you were my friend...But you just wanted-”
“I-It’s not like that I-” tears began to rim her eyes. “I never wanted-” She didn’t know how you knew but there was just something about how you looked at her that broke her.
“I just can’t believe it was you… Kiseok is-was my boyfriend. We’ve been together for years. We’re supposed to get married but you-”
“I never wanted to hurt you…”
“You have an affair with my boyfriend but you didn’t want to hurt me?!” you hadn’t meant to be so loud, it wasn’t your intention to embarrass her further, but you couldn’t help it. It pissed you off that she dare be sorry when it was something of this magnitude. The other people in the cafe were in a hushed silence, all eyes on her as you glared at her. And as much as you were angry you didn’t think she deserved to be on the spot like that.
“I’m sorry.”
“I really just want to know...Why...I would never do something like that. I can’t even fathom why someone would cheat, but even worse why someone would allow themselves to be some side chick. Don’t you have any respect for yourself?”
“No...I guess I don’t…” she fell to the ground, all of her emotions rushing at her. “I...I don’t know why I did it...I just...I’m sorry! You think I feel good about this! You think I can stand looking at him or you knowing what I’ve done! You think I don’t have a heart!”
“But that’s not enough to stop you. You knew he had a girlfriend but-”
“He came onto me! He told me he loved me...He-” She stopped. “I knew it was wrong to have feelings for him...But he was my boss...he was nice to me. He…”
“But you let him…”
“I wanted him too...there I said it...I fell for him too. At first it was ok...I thought maybe you two would just break up...then we could be together...but he doesn’t want that. He only wants you.” She choked back a sob. “He only ever really wanted you...Do you know what it’s like being in bed with a man that’s planning your wedding to him…”
“If you knew that, then why play along. Why torture yourself…?”
“Because...I didn’t want to let him go either...I wanted him to love me...but...I’m not the only one… Because if I stop he’s already replaced me…”
“...How many…” you gripped your fist.
“I don’t know...too many…”
“But you let him use you like that”
“Let him…? You make it sound like I wanted him to hurt me… You’re in no place to lecture me about being used.” She looked up at you. “I know what I did...and I’m not proud of it. I was- I am stupid for letting him sweet talk me, for letting him have that much control over me...But what about you. You can’t play innocent...You had to of known… You didn’t have this gut feeling that something wasn’t right…”
She was right. In the back of your mind, you probably did know. But anytime you doubted him he was especially doating on you, clingy, kind, warm and loving. The him you loved in the beginning. But that’s how he kept you strung along. “You’re right…”
“What…?”
“Ya know...I did think there was another woman. I never thought it was you...But I did know...somehow...because I played out the moment I’d confront that other woman. How I’d curse her out for being a homewrecker. Pull her hair, smack her face...I just...I hated her...You… I somehow blame you for everything wrong in my relationship.”
“I wouldn’t blame you-” she flinched, shutting her eyes seeing your hand move but you only kneeled down in front of her, offering her your hand.
“Get up…” You gentle held her hand pulling her off the ground. “I knew I’d hate you...But I didn’t think I’d pity you so much….Even you deserve better than him… You shouldn’t let him make you feel like he owns you.”
“What are you going to do now…?”
“The same thing you should do… Leave him. Do better for yourself.” You looked at her necklace, a sad smile graced your face seeing the identical charm piece to your bracelet. “We deserve better than him.” As you made your way out she called your name.
“Unnie..I...I’m sorry...I’m really sorry...And I know you must hate me but…”
“I don’t hate you… I don’t really forgive you” you smiled. “But I don’t hate you.” and that was all you could say before you left.
Another day another cocktail party that you were awkwardly invited to. It was for a launch for something, and you had so much on your mind you honestly didn’t even bother to read the invitation. There were tons of familiar faces, You were just thankful that AOMG was nowhere to be found. You and Kiseok didn’t exactly go public about the break up it was more so you just left him.
Sitting at the bar you downed another glass of champagne; wishing it was something stronger. As much as you tried to fight it, your mind had this way to wandering back to Kiseok. It’d been over a week since you moved out. You stopped taking his calls, and put him on the no entry list for your office. And all your efforts had worked. You’d properly cut him out of your life.
Some relationships were worth salvaging. This just wasn’t one of them.
But you knew if you let him talk to you he’d have some excuse for cheating. And like the many times before he’d manipulate you into staying with him. And you needed to close that chapter in your life.
And other than that there was this weird relationship you and Christian were in. And the last thing you wanted was for him to be some sort of rebound. You didn’t want him to feel like you were rushing into things with him because you weren’t used to be alone.
You couldn’t do that to him. You knew his feelings for you and he deserved a fair chance.
The whole situation was driving you crazy. You tossed the glass of champagne back before grabbing another.
“Easy there...Night just started, it can’t be that rough” a low voice chuckled from behind you. Christian came up beside you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders.
You smiled softly at the familiarity of it all.
Just a few weeks prior and that was how you met Christian. At the time he was just that handsome stranger from the event. Now he was your only real friend, a lifeline. Other than Swings you really didn’t have anyone in your life that wasn’t directly related to Kiseok.
“Hey stop that” Christian frowned, pressing his index finger against the furrow of your brow. “You're thinking too hard”
“Thinking isn’t a bad thing.”
“It is when you’re frowning. That means you’re dwelling.” he grabbed your hand and tugged you toward him. “C’mere.”
“Where are we going?”
“You need a distraction. Dance with me.”
“Christian please no-” you laughed, stumbling over your heels as he pulled you in the middle of the dance floor.
“Trust me” he pulled you close by the small of your back.
“I do but this is embarrassing. People are staring.”
“You’re gorgeous why wouldn’t they stare?” he swayed you to the music, smiling as you shyly looked anywhere but at him. He smiled seeing you get more comfortable, eventually just giving in and dancing with him. He leaned down, pressing his forehead against yours. “There’s something I wanted to tell you…”
“Christian…” you looked up at him, and suddenly had this wave of anxiety. The very thought that he was going to tell you something that you weren’t prepared to hear from him made you panic.
“Hey calm down” he laughed seeing the anxiety etched on your face. “It’s nothing too major, it’s just...I’m going to be leaving for Peru soon.”
“You’re going to Peru?!”
“I had it planned for a couple of months. But yeah, I just wanted to get away, enjoy the visuals and architecture of another country. I’ve never been and I’m pretty excited. “I’m going for a month.”
“Wow a whole month...That sounds great” your smile faltered. You were genuinely happy that he was going it was just a month was such a long time for him to be gone.
“Actually…”
You pulled away hearing someone call your name “Kiseok…” you turned around and sighed. You’d know that voice anywhere. And it used to bring you comfort and warmth, all it did now was pain you.
“You moved on fast Jagiya…” he nodded to Christian an unsettling smirk on his lips.
“You moved on in the middle of our relationship.” you scoffed, crossing your arms over your chest.
“I never moved on. You’re my one and only.”
“Alot less convincing when you literally have a draw of identical charms that you give to me and all your mistresses.”
“But you’re my girl. You always have been.”
“What are you doing here…” you sighed.
“You never gave me a chance. You just up and left me.”
“You cheated on me. In case I didn’t make it painfully clear, that’s a clear break-up reason for me.”
He stepped closer, reaching for your hand but Christian pulled you behind him. “Look Man, the lady doesn’t want to talk about it. It’s over.”
He scoffed. “The home wrecker has something to say?”
“Home wrecker? We’re just friends.”
“You think he’s better than me?” he looked past Christian, meeting your eyes.
“Kiseok it’s over...we’re over. I’m done.”
“So just like that? We didn’t even have a discussion. All that talk about our future...marriage? Just gone like that? So what does it matter if we see other people as long we come home to one another? Imagine how happy our families would be. My parents love you. Why would you want to hurt them like that? You know my mother thinks of you like a daughter…”
“Don’t you dare. You know I love your parents...They’ve always been good to me...But I deserve better than this. You can’t say you want to be with me and tell me you want us to mutually cheat. I’m not ok with that. And you will never manipulate me again...I’m done.”
Kiseok took a deep breath and gave you a sad smile. “You know you were the only woman I’ve ever loved. Right?” Watching you remain silent he reached in his pocket. “If we really are over...I needed you to have this…”
“I don’t want it…”
He cleared his throat “For the woman of my dreams.”
“Kiseok don’t-”
He dropped to his knees and pulled out a ring and between the gasping and the chorus of shutters from cameras you were overwhelmed. You hated when attention was on you like this. You could hear the murmurs of the people around you, all anticipating your answer to Kiseok’s proposal.
You froze.
There was no way to save face.
In their eyes you and Kiseok were a long time couple, this was an anticipated moment.
Between the camera flashes and that smug look on his face you just couldn’t think. “Let’s go” Christian laced his fingers with yours and pulled you out of the party.
It was so surreal how easily you just detached from the moment. You were completely on autopilot. You looked to Christian as he drove away, his knuckles were turning white from how hard he was gripping the steering wheel.
“I can see the headlines now… Simon Dominic’s longtime girlfriend rejects his proposal and runs off with former idol.” you weren’t even angry anymore. You laughed; in Kiseok’s final moments he really did show his true colors.
“Come to Peru with me.”
“What?”
“I think you deserve a vacation.”
“Christian...I don’t want you to pity me…”
“You think I pity you?” He pulled over on the side of the road, putting the car in park. “After all this time we were together you think I pity you?” he sighed raking his hands through his hair. “I pity the situation. I don’t think you deserve any of this….But I’ve never once pitied you.”
“Christian…don’t you think going on a vacation together is a bit much.”
“I like you. And I want us to spend time together. Get to know one another… And if you’re not interested then we can just go as friends. Or co-workers. I just...I need to know you’re ok.”
You’d never made a spontaneous decision of your life. Everything was always so calculated. Always weighing the pros and cons and never living in the moment. And it was never a life you’d wanted. You loved order. It was even the reason you picked a career so clear-cut. There were no gray areas in numbers. Everything was in black and white. But with Christian it wasn’t. And normally you’d find that unsettling but with him….It was oddly comfortable.
Maybe living in that gray area for a while won’t be so bad.
As you unbuckle your seatbelt to lean closer to him he froze. Watching you with steady eyes, cautious of his moves. Your gaze met his before you cupped his cheeks. You could hear the sharp intake of his breath. You could almost feel that he was too scared to move. “Are you afraid of me…?”
“I’m afraid I’ll scare you away…”
“You won’t…” you whispered against his lips before kissing him. You could feel him tense as if he was shocked that you actually did it but soon he relaxed, returning your affection, and gripping your waist as he deepened it. Every move of his was subtle, calculated, and intentional and nothing felt more welcoming.
Your nose brushed against his as you both pulled away. His long fingers, lingering on your cheeks as he pressed his forehead to yours. “Wow…” he whispered, licking his lips.
“I’ll go….” you smiled.
“What? Really?” He couldn’t hide his bright smile. “You’ll go with me?”
“I like you too Christian...So let’s just see where this goes.” The last thing you were looking for was a relationship. And you’d been with Kiseok for such a life time it feels like you’d forgotten who you were before him. A time of self-discovery felt needed, and if you were to find Christian on the way, you weren’t going to fight that either.  There were definitely feelings, and rather it was out of love, lust, or curiosity that was all to be said. And it was something you were more than willing to learn, especially with Christian by your side.

Christian Yu x Reader: Let Me Explain - Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Chapter 1: These Seoul Streets. | Chapter 2: Uninvited Guests | Chapter 3: Confrontation | Chapter 4: Who Wouldv’e Thought?| Chapter 5: Red Roses
Chapter 6: It’s Party Time
Word count: 5287 (I’m sorry lol)
Series type: Angst.
Warnings: Bad language and mentions of alcohol and consumption of it.
Additional Characters: DPR LIVE (Dabin) and mentions of other artists/fictional characters.
A/N: Thank you everyone for supporting the series the way you have, sadly all good things come to an end, this is part one to the finale. Please keep in mind English is not my first language therefore there might me some spelling/grammar mistakes
You can’t even explain how everything happened so fast. It’s been three days since that night, and it has also been three days since you’ve seen Christian face to face. You keep in contact through texts and calls and see him through late night face time sessions, but both of your schedules were too packed to actually meet up. Especially now that operation fake relationship is up and running.
After Christian attended that meeting at YG he had been so busy, being pushed around like the media puppet they made him to be. Christian explained that they wanted to get the important stuff out of the way first so that the public would keep paying attention to them, which was key for all of this to work. He told you it was temporary. That he’d be really busy for a week or two before things would slowly start to die down. It was exactly what you were afraid of. Every time he’d text you to ask you if you were okay with something you didn’t have a choice but to say yes. You had to. He was being considerate of your feelings throughout the whole thing, but you didn’t even put up a fight. Not even when he expected you to because you felt like you were secretly being watched by Hyung Suk. It made him question why you didn’t care anymore, but he didn’t have much time to think about you because he was kept busy. Christian was only trying to please and help everyone around him at the same time, neglecting his own work and relationships in the end. In some weird way you were relieved he was too busy to be with you. It made it easier to keep your secret. But you missed him. More than you expected to.
You could have predicted this. You could have said no when you had the chance. But now you’re glued stuck to a spot you couldn’t get out of because you were being blackmailed. You partially blamed yourself for this mess, thinking back to that night in the dance studio when you so childishly thought of this deal as a test for Christian’s loyalty to you. Would you have done differently if you could have? Absolutely. Can you now? Absolutely not. Not with all of these consequences. You weren’t only responsible for your own life if this video got out because of you, but also the lives of Christian, Dabin, Cream and the rest of the people affiliated with DPR. There was too much damage to be done with the truth. Damage that couldn’t be mended.
You nearly broke your brain overthinking the past couple of days and nights. You contemplated on whether to tell Christian or not, but you know you can’t. Not until you figure out a solution.
You had been coping with your emotions by shutting them out. Living on automatic pilot. It’s like you slowly tricked your mind not to care anymore, even though you do. More than anything.
You manage to smile at the Starbucks employee who handed you your two Americano’s. Saying a quick thank you. You hastily run to your car through the rain and put the coffees on the passengers’ seat. You drive to Dabin’s apartment. You hadn’t seen him since that night either. He texted you last night If you could come over at around 3 in the afternoon to listen to some of his new music. He loved to hear your opinions on his stuff because he knew you get to listen to new releases before most people, since you choreograph songs for many idols and solo artists. It unexpectedly made you an expert on new trends in kpop/khiphop.
You arrive at around 1:15 in the afternoon, you knew you were early. A little too early. But you were bored and way too happy to find some distraction with a good friend.
You ring his doorbell first, waiting for a good 30 seconds before you decide to bust out his spare key. He does it to you all the time, so you figure you could too. Maybe he isn’t home? Hence the 3 o clock time stamp you figured.
You clumsily enter, trying not to drop the coffee.
“Dabin?” you yell out kicking off your sneakers before you walk into his living room. No response.
You frown putting the coffees on his kitchen counter when you hear a door open. You turn around to see a half naked Dabin standing before his bedroom door, softly closing it behind him. You raise your eyebrows at him.
“Where’s your shirt? It’s 1 in the afternoon” you ask looking him up and down.
“Why…. are you here?” he asks wide eyed in a hushed tone.
“Uhm, you asked me to come?” you say crossing your arms.
“Yeah at three y/n. At three” he repeats, still talking in a hushed tone.
“Why does it matter, you’re always up at 10.” You say rolling your eyes. “And why are you whispering. Is Lori sleeping? Is Christian making you dog-sit again because he’s too busy?” you ask taking a sip of your coffee.
Dabin doesn’t say anything, he just stands there guarding the door to his bedroom when suddenly it clicked.
“Oh my god…Are you? Did you? Is someone here?” you stammer.
He closed his eyes nodding. He’s embarrassed, how cute.
Your eyes lit up, giving him a devilish smile “Can I meet her” you say enthusiastically.
“What!? Are you crazy!?” he says in that hushed tone again, frantically looking around for his shirt.
When you look around with him you see a trace of both male and female clothes paraded on the floor.
You snort trying to hold in your laughter when you see Dabin trying to collect both his clothes, and the clothes of the still unknown female.
“Is she still asleep?” you ask walking towards the couch to sit down.
He nods still trying to find something.
You adjust yourself on the couch, feeling something poke you, your hand searched for the culprit, pulling it out from under you. A bra.
“Were you looking for this?” you ask swinging it around in the air.
Dabin looks at you with his embarrassed/angry look and nearly jumps you trying to get the bra from your hand.
“Y/n I swear to god” he says pretending to slap your cheek. You just chuckle at him. Enjoying the fact that you got to tease him.
It has been too long since playful you took a step outside. You knew that coming here would result in a fun time, but you didn’t imagine it to be this type of fun.
“Who’s the lucky lady?” you ask taking another sip, crossing your legs making yourself more comfortable.
He sighs. “Remember Kang In Ah?”
“Kang In Ah, you had a crush on since middle school Kang In Ah?” you ask surprised.
“Yeah, I’ve been…seeing her” he says avoiding eye contact.
“Is that why you always leave early or bail on Christian and I lately?” you ask cocking your head to the side.
He just nods at you, combing his fingers through his hair.
You smile, genuinely happy for him. If anyone deserved to be in a loving relationship it was Dabin. You were especially happy because it was In Ah he was seeing, you always hit it off very well with her.
“Why didn’t you tell us? We could have hung out together.” You ask a little offended.
“I didn’t want to introduce her officially until things got serious, besides when do you or Christian have time anymore.”
Your smile drops hearing his name, and it didn’t go unnoticed. So much for your fun distraction.
You try to steer the conversation back into the casual direction. ‘Well…looking at the clothes on the floor I’d say things got pretty serious.” You say with a faint smile on your face, trying to conceal your true feelings once again.
“When is the last time you’ve seen him” Dabin asked sitting down next to you, you should have known those things don’t work on him. He knows you like the back of his hand.
You don’t respond biting your lip, looking to the floor.
He sighs. “You miss him, don’t you?” he asks fixing a piece of hair that was in front of your face.
You just nod, looking at Dabin. He gave you a warm smile, softy rubbing your back.
“Things will go back to normal in no time, you waited 2 years to actually be with him because both of you were too afraid to admit your feelings. Two more weeks won’t kill you right?” he says trying to make you feel better.
Oh Dabin. You know he means well.
“I guess.” You reply not knowing what else to say.
“At least you’ll see him tonight.” He says leaning back. “Maybe not in the way you want to but at least you’ll see him.”
Right. You almost forgot.  The first public appearance of the YuYu couple was tonight. Their couple name made you want to throw up, without exaggeration. Since everyone of DPR was going to be at the AOMG party tonight, so did you. It didn’t only mean you had to see Christian pretend to be in love with someone else, but it also meant that the chances of running into Hyung Suk quadrupled. You closed your eyes. You weren’t mentally ready for this.
“Hey” Dabin says squeezing your thigh. You look up to meet his eyes. “You don’t have to go If you don’t want to.”
Suddenly your mind flashes back to the letter Hyung Suk sent you.
If you, in any way or form talk Christian out of our little deal or form any type of threat, I will release the video online with a time stamp. Showing his disloyalty to Yura. Turning him into the bad guy. What a story that would be righ?
“No I have to go…It’d look to weird If I didn’t go. Especially since there will be a lot of people there who personally know Ian and me. Everyone thought something was going on between us, so if I’m not there I feel like I’ll make that more obvious” you say playing with your fingers.
Dabin pursed his lips together. “That’s damn smart of you to think off, but also very inconsiderate of your own feelings.”
“It’s not about me right now.” You say resting your face against your palm.
“Right, It’s about Yu-ra” Dabin says articulating Yura’s name extra strong, making you look up at him. He was mocking her.
“I still think her sudden change of heart is a little strange don’t you?” Dabin says looking at you, trying to read your facial expression.
“Well, I don’t know. I guess her whole story kind off makes sense?” you say not knowing where this is coming from.
“To me it kind off doesn’t.” he says.
“What do you mean?” you ask out of curiosity.
What is Dabin’s point of view to this exactly?
“I mean, even though things in her life are very unfortunate, she always manages to get what she wants.” He says shrugging.
You think about it for a second. She did admit she liked Christian.
Yura was being really nice to you. Maybe a little too nice? Would she have been nice to you if there was another way to solve her problems?
You shake the thoughts out of your head. You had enough to deal with as is.
“I don’t know Dabin. I really don’t. All I know is that Christian really wanted to help her out. He was the first one to notice that she was a descent human being.”
Dabin bites the inside of his cheek. “Whatever. I just hope it’ll be over soon so we can all get back to our regular grind. Christian has been so caught up in this whole fairy tale that he forgot to edit my latest video.”
You frown. “That’s so unlike him”
“Yeah, it’s also so unlike you to let this happen, but the day I figure out what’s going on in the both of your heads is the day world peace is declared I guess.”
You roll your eyes at Dabin. Getting up.
“Let’s do the whole music thing next time. I don’t think I could have picked worse timing.”
He jumps up smiling widely. “Finally! Something we agree on.” He says grabbing you by your shoulders, walking behind you to lead you to his front door.
He was desperately trying to get you out off here before Kang In Ah woke up.
“So, I’ll pick you up at 11.15 tonight”
“Eh okay” you agree as you were being rushed out of his apartment, quickly putting your shoes on.
He opened the door for you giving you a quick kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks for the coffee y/n, see you tonight!” he says giving you one of his boyish smiles again as you step out of his house.
“…See ya, and next time I want to meet her!” you yell a little louder hoping it’d wake her up as he was already closing the door.
Dabin stuck his face through the little opening, giving you an angry look before closing the door on you.
You chuckle. Shaking your head at him.
Tumblr media
You check yourself out in the mirror one last time. Dabin was already downstairs, waiting for you in the car. You take a deep breath. “You’ve got this” you encourage yourself looking at your attire.
You were wearing a black off the shoulder tight fitted midi dress that complimented your figure. You had minimum jewelry on so the attention would be drawn to your glammed up make-up. You put on your heels and grab your jacket just in case the weather would turn on you.
You rush down the stairs knowing Dabin was waiting for you. As you open the door to the passengers seat you were greeted by a whistle.
“Daaaaaamn girl, where you going?” Dabin says smiling, looking at you.
He knew how anxious you were about tonight, so he couldn’t help but lighten the mood. You chuckle smacking his arm. “Shut up.”
“Don’t forget I’m right beside you okay? He says starting the car. You nod at his words, feeling somewhat ensured with Dabin’s presence. You really don’t know what you would have done without him.
You talk about this and that, mostly about Dabin’s new music or gossip in the industry. After about 35 minutes you arrive at the club.
You got out of the car, smoothing down your dress leaving your jacket in the car.
“Are you sure you won’t need that tonight?” Dabin asks referring to your jacket putting out his arm for you to loop yours through. You start walking to the club shaking your head. “I’ll be fine.”
Your heart was beating super fast when you entered. Both of you avoided the red carpet, not feeling up to it. Dabin let go of your arm to hold your hand, squeezing it for reassurance. “Smile” he says through his teeth.
You do as he says as the man of the evening approaches.
“Ayee DPR gang wassup!” Jay Park says coming in for a kiss on your cheek and one of those ‘bro hugs’ with Dabin.
“Where’s the man of the hour?” he asks looking at you.
“I guess he’ll be here soon” you answer acting innocent to your best ability.
“He’s all up in online news lately though, did you guys know?” Jay asks leaning on a pillar looking into your eyes.
Dabin chuckled. “Of course we did. He’s family” he answers putting his hand over your shoulder.
Jay’s attention diverted to Dabin, giving him a nod. “Is he bringing her?” he asked.
Jay isn’t stupid. He was asking all of the important questions because he knew something was iffy about the situation. Jay had always seen you as Christian’s girl.
“Yes” you reply. “He told me he would.” You try to keep your facial expressions neutral. If you seemed just the slightest bit nervous or put off, you know the questions wouldn’t stop.
“Well I’ll anticipate their grand entrance. So many reporters are lined up outside because they found out they were both on the list. It’s crazy.” Jay says sniffing. “The rest of your crew is on the left side of the VIP area. I’ll let the staff bring some bottles to your table” he smiles winking at you.
Dabin was the first one to thank Jay with another one of their bro hugs. You do the same, giving him a quick hug, walking towards your table. The club wasn’t that packed yet, but a lot of eyes turned to the both of you when you walked to the VIP area.
“If this is what tonight is going to be like than I don’t know if I can handle it” you say to Dabin sitting down.
“People are nosey as fuck.” Dabin says annoyed. “We just have to act like we don’t know much. Let Christian deal with it. He wanted to do this so badly.” You bite your lip, somewhat agreeing with him.
You’ve never had this many people say Hi to you, trying to make small talk. Of course it was always about Christian and Yura. Your head hurt from all the fake smiles and fake story’s, so you decided to order something a little stronger than your usual virgin cocktail. The alcohol loosened you up a bit, so you started talking to people how you normally would, trying to forget the problem at hand.
It was now half past twelve. The YuYu couple still hadn’t arrived and it was making you more and more anxious as time went by.
Dabin was chatting it up with some Show Me The Money 6 contestants while you were seated beside a few female artists from AOMG and Club Eskimo who were gossiping away with each other. You didn’t really pay attention to what they were saying, too consumed with your own thoughts to actually hear what was going on. Suddenly all of their heads turned to the entrance of the club. People were talking louder and pictures were being taken. You just knew that had to be them.
You close your eyes for a second. Mentally preparing yourself for what you were about to see.
You look at them as they entered. Yura was smiling from ear to ear. Happily showing off her arm candy. She was dressed to impress, that was for sure. Christian’s facial expression was neutral. He looked good, maybe a little too good. He led her through the entrance. greeting Jay. You watched them as they said their hello’s. Your heart was beating like crazy, your eyes searching for Hyung Suk but he wasn’t there. You guess the universe seemed to be on your side just a little bit tonight.
Jay pointed to your table, probably telling him that the rest of us were seated over here and that’s when you made eye contact with Christian. He looked at you, and kept staring. Your heart dropped and you immediately look away, getting up.
“Excuse me girls, I have to pee” you smile at them as they let you through.
You struggle walking through the crowd as everyone’s attention was fixated on Ian and Yura. The alcohol in your blood didn’t make it any easier for you either.
You almost trip at least twice before you make it to the ladies’ room.
You open the door, happy to see it empty. You stare at yourself in the mirror suppressing the urge to cry and run away.
All of this has become too much. You close your eyes, only seeing the way Christian looked at you once you locked eyes. It’s like he forgot you were going to be there. He hadn’t even texted or called today either.
He’s slowly slipping away from you, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Without your knowledge a tear escapes from your eye. As you feel it go down your cheek you look up. Immediately wiping it away, trying not to ruin your make-up.
“It’s fine. You’re okay” you encourage yourself taking a deep shaky breath. “Let’s just find some distraction”
Tumblr media
Dabin had been looking for you for the past half hour. He knew he couldn’t ask people if they had seen you. It’d be too obvious because you went messing the second Christian and Yura walked in.
After his second round through the club, Dabin decided to tell Ian.
“Bro.” Dabin says coming up closer to him. He paused when he saw that Yura was listening as well.
“Have you seen y/n? I locked eyes with her when I came in but when I looked back she disappeared.” Christian says worried.
“I was just about to tell you that I can’t find her either.” Dabin says frowning. “She won’t answer her phone when I call.”
Yura stayed quiet until Christian was about get up to leave and look for you. She grabbed his arm, pulling him back down on the seat again. He gave her a confused look and so did Dabin “Don’t you think it would look a little weird if you would leave me alone to look for someone else?” she says giving him a sheepish smile.
Dabin squinted his eyes at her. Of course she’d say that.
“This is y/n we’re talking about.” Dabin says. “You know, his actual girlfriend.” He gave her a blank look.
Yura’s eyes widened. “Don’t speak so loud!” she says shocked. Dabin saw the annoyance in her eyes, but Christian was a blind man when it comes to things like that.
Christian frowned at the both of them, not knowing what to do or say. “Let me call her.” He says.
Yura rolled her eyes while Dabin sat down beside him, putting his arm over Christian’s shoulder while leaning in so he could hear the phone.
                                            - your pov –
Your phone lit up “Christian?” you read out loud.
You lean your cheek on your palm contemplating on whether or not to answer the phone, but your alcohol controlled brain already pressed the ‘accept call’ icon.
“Y/n?” you hear his voice. It was muffled by the sound of the loud ass music on the background. But you could recognize his voice through anything.
“Y/n where are you?” he asked impatiently as you didn’t reply.
“At the club” you slur your words. Your elbow slipped off of the bar, losing the support you were giving your heavy head. You lose balance for a second but regain your composure, giggling at your own clumsiness.
“Are you drunk?” you hear his voice again.
“What? She never drinks” you hear Dabin this time.
“Dabinnie!” you say excited to hear his voice.
You hear rumbling on the other end of the line and raise your eyebrows.
“Y/n” you hear Dabin this time. “Where are you?”
“in the club” you answer again, a little annoyed this time. Why can’t they just leave you alone? For the first time in the past couple of days you feel fine.
“I get that you’re in the club, but where.” He says like an angry father.
You look around, inspecting your surroundings. “It’s like…open air? Jesus It’s cold up here.” You answer slurring your words again.
“She’s on the rooftop bar” you hear Dabin say to Christian.
“y/n don’t move; do you understand.” Dabin says in a stern tone.
You nod as if he’d be able to see it. “Aye-aye captain.” You giggle.
You hang up the phone, resting your head on your palm again.
                                                   - meanwhile –
Christian wanted to come with him but he told him no. Yura was constantly breathing down his neck and he didn’t know what your drunken state would do if you saw either of them. Dabin promised to call Christian once you were safe and out of the public’s eye.
Dabin rushed back to his car to grab your jacket before he went to get you. He opened the door to his passengers’ seat, lifting your jacket from the chair when suddenly a red card fell out of one of your pockets. He frowned, not thinking much of it as he quickly put it into his pocket, running back to the club to come and get you.
He ran up the stairs, seeing you chatting with the bartender. Dabin sighed walking up to you, putting your jacket over your shoulders. “Let’s go” he says removing your shot glass from your hand, returning the new bottle of Soju to the bartender. “She’s had enough” he says putting a 50,000 won bill on the table to pay for whatever you had consumed. The bartender nodded taking the money, giving him back the change.
“Dabin” you ask staring into his eyes. “Did they leave?” you ask trying to get up.
Dabin quickly got a hold of your upper arm, making sure you were stable enough to stand. Which you weren’t.
“No y/n they didn’t leave. You did.” he says trying to make you understand. He had never seen you like this before. It saddened him.
“Shit! Do you think people noticed?” you ask worried.
He just shook his head “No, y/n.” he answers. He only gave you short answers. He’ll talk to like an adult you when you’re sober.
“Come on.” He says linking arms with you to support you. You carefully walk down the stairs avoiding crowded places or people you may know. The both of you finally arrive at the hallway where back exit of the club was located.  You see Christian standing there. Waiting for you.
You squint your eyes, trying to make sure if it was really him.
“Babe are you okay? Why did you drink so much?” he asks putting you down on a random stool in the hallway, kneeling down in front of you.
“Who babe? Me babe?” you ask pointing at yourself with a fake confused expression on your face.
“Don’t be like this.” He says looking into your eyes.
“Where’s Yura?” you ask him, fixing a piece of his hair for him.
“Y/n come on.” Christian says a little tired of your childishness.
Dabin crosses his arms, waiting for things to kick off between the two of you.
“What? Don’t you think I have the right to feel this way?” you say stumbling over your own words a few times.
“No. You don’t. I have asked you a hundred times if you were okay with this, and you kept saying yes. You didn’t even care! And now you do?” he says angrily.
“I don’t have a fucking choice Ian!” you yell at him this time.
“Yes you did! What are you talking about!?” Christian says getting up.
“Guys calm down. If people hear us we’re in trouble.” Dabin says putting his hand on Christian’s shoulder. “Don’t take anything she says too serious right now okay. I’ll take her to my place and let her sleep it off.”
“I want to go to my own house” You say giving Dabin a look.
“You don’t get to want anything right now.” Dabin angrily says looking at you.
It was like they were both ganging up on you. Where Dabin was usually on your side with things like this, this time he was on Ian’s. You can’t really blame him though. Even you knew you were being unfair. You cross your arms and legs. Annoyed at the both of them.
Christian sighs after having calmed down a bit by Dabin’s words. He looks at you a little saddened.
“Just…sleep it off okay, we’ll talk tomorrow about all of this.” Christian says kneeling down in front of you again, putting his hand on your thigh, trying to comfort you.
You look at him. “I can’t talk to you about this” you say looking away again as if he was supposed to understand.
“What do you mean?” Christian asks a little hurt.
“I just can’t. I’m not allowed.” You say out loud, and immediately regret it. You curse at yourself and the alcohol for making you slip up.
Christian and Dabin both looked at each other, unable to understand what you were saying.
“I think it’s time to go.” Dabin says, helping you stand up.
“I have to stay here.” Christian says. “I’ll be at your place first thing in the morning.”
Dabin nods at Christian. “Thanks man” Christian says giving Dabin a hug.
You look at them, but when Christian looked at you, you look away.
He walked towards you, making you look at him with his thumb and index finger on your chin. “Try to sleep alright?” he says trying to get you to look into his eyes, but you wouldn’t.
He sighs, pulling you closer to him to kiss your forehead.
You look at him as he did, and look away again, not saying anything.
Dabin took you by the arm. “Let’s go.” he says pulling you away from Christian who was also reluctant to go back to Yura. He just stood there, watching you until you were out of sight. He sighed to himself. He walked back to his table to see Yura on her phone.
“I was just about to call you, how is y/n? What happened?” she asked worried.
Christian sat down beside her putting his arm over Yura’s shoulder. “Let’s not talk about it okay?”
Yura smiled at Christian, nodding at him.
The ride to Dabin’s home was silent. You fell asleep after 15 minutes of staring out the window, giving in to your heavy eyelids.
You made a fool out of yourself tonight, you knew you’d deeply regret your behavior tomorrow when you woke up. There’s a reason why you don’t drink.
Dabin carried your sleeping state into the house. He put you down on his bed, taking off your shoes and your earrings, putting the covers over you. He sighed looking at you. “You know better than this y/n” he says shaking his head.
He walked back to his living room, ready to get comfortable on the couch to go to sleep. He took his phone and money out of his pockets to put it on his coffee table when he suddenly feels that odd red piece of paper in his hands again.
He remembered how it fell from your jacket and put it back on the coffee table.
Tumblr media
You woke up with a pounding head and a dry mouth. You groan at the throbbing pain in your head and turn over to lay on your stomach.
You open your eyes, looking at your surroundings. Why are you in Dabin’s bed? You look around again. You don’t see him.
You remove the covers off of yourself, seeing how you were still dressed in your dress from last night. Something clicked seeing your attire and suddenly all of your lost memories came rushing back.
You panic a little, not knowing if you did anything else that would get you in trouble.
You curse at yourself rubbing your forehead.
You walk out of Dabin’s room, into his light filled living room.
You squint your eyes at the attack of sunlight and walk to his kitchen for a glass of water.
“y/n?” you hear Dabin’s voice. You turn around slowly, feeling like you were about to get scolded like a child.
“What the fuck is this!?” he angrily says, throwing a red card down on his kitchen counter.
You stare at it. Unable to take your eyes off of it. You only needed a fraction of a second to understand what it was.
You close your eyes. Fuck.

Victor/Yuuri and the Media
Alternately titled “Sachiro can find Victor character development pretty much anywhere he looks”.
Tumblr media
As an attempt to get over the writer’s block that has been plaguing me for a month and a half, I decided to try and tackle something new. Something that’s a more outside-of-the-box idea in terms of analysis (at least I think) so let’s take a look at an aspect of the series that I haven’t seen talked about too much in terms of character development: the media!
I started thinking a while back about how we can actually see a clear change when it comes to Victor and his interactions with Yuuri in regards to the media, especially when we compare the earlier episodes to the later ones, and it got me thinking. Why does Victor act so protective of Yuuri in front of the media in earlier episodes and what changed by the later ones to the point that he’s so noticeably not there (and at what point did this shift take place)?
Victor himself actually enjoys the media attention and we have that shown to us repeatedly over the course of the show. Yuuri, on the other hand, tolerates the media but while he doesn’t enjoy the attention he isn’t actually a terrible speaker in front of the cameras.
Before we get into the meat of the discussion, let’s take a quick look at how each of them interact with the media when left on their own (at the start of the show anyway).
Victor
Tumblr media
The very first time we see Victor, he’s in front of the cameras. His heart may not have been into it but he was still able to pull out a big smile. Even more in our faces later, we see him winking at the crowd at Worlds and sending everyone into a tizzy. He’s very much an extrovert and gets his energy from others around him.
Even after he moves to Japan, and especially once Yuuri and Victor get back into the competitive circuit, we see him thriving off any media attention he can get; whether it’s interviews, at the kiss & cry, or from the attention given to him by his fans.
Yuuri
Tumblr media
On the other hand, Yuuri is very docile in front of the cameras. He’ll respond with phrases that you can tell he prepared ahead of time. You can see that he doesn’t really enjoy the attention but he’s been at this long enough to know how to deal with and tolerate it. In contrast to Victor, you don’t see Yuuri waving at the cameras and actively seeking out attention from his fans.
We can see examples of Yuuri on the far side of this spectrum in episode 1 where he actively tries to avoid interacting with his fans. We can also make the assumption that he avoided all media and social media in the space between the GPF and the Stammi Vicino video due to no one having an inkling as to what his career plans were (even though him skipping out on Worlds as the only Men’s Singles skater for Japan would have already been suspect – I wonder what excuse he gave because it definitely would have hit the press either way).
Edit: he didn’t qualify for Worlds at all due to his poor performance at Japanese Nationals, my bad!
As you can probably guess, putting both of them in the same frame would certainly cause some interesting interactions, and that’s exactly what happens! So let’s take a look from the start and see how they managed to somehow get to a point where Victor is leaving Yuuri to deal with the media alone/actually been tame in front of the cameras as seen in the last episodes!
(More under the read more due to length/images so please enjoy the rest of the analysis!)
Victor and Yuuri interactions
Tumblr media
The way that Yuuri handles the media is something that we can see Victor clearly doesn’t understand. He saw Yuuri being nervous and decided that the best way to help would be jumping in to support him, many times literally. We see the first case of this in episode 3 at the Onsen on Ice.
It begins with us seeing both of them interacting with the cameras separately. Yuuri stutters a bit and is nervous, falling back on a practiced speech about his hometown (or more notably, not about himself). Victor, on the other hand, goes all out with a costume and is overjoyed to talk on camera -- even going so far as to forget about why he was out there in the first place.
But once you get them both on the same camera, we get to see them interact with each other in front of the media for the first time. In this case, it’s after Yuuri wins the Onsen on Ice and is standing up on the podium with Victor. This moment also begins a pattern for the two of them. Yuuri gets slightly nervous and Victor jumps in to “save” him.
Tumblr media
This first moment might have set the precedent but it’s actually really tame compared to the following examples. In episode 3 Victor provides a silent support. He doesn’t actually say anything and lets Yuuri handle himself.
In contrast, the next time we see them dealing with the media together is in episode 5. Victor doesn’t even let Yuuri answer the question about his own skating plans, deciding just to answer for him. And you can tell this wasn’t pre-planned because Yuuri immediately shuts him down for what he chooses to say.
Tumblr media
We see Victor do this multiple times in just this episode. Although he lets Yuuri deal with his fans on his own (Minami for example), he gets into the habit of trying to “protect” Yuuri from the rest of the media and will physically jump in front of Yuuri when he’s getting interviewed or answer questions for him. He even goes so far as to give Yuuri a back hug and gives him his advice directly in his ear before his short program knowing that all the cameras are trained on them. Even the times he doesn’t jump in he’s still close at hand such as during Yuuri’s post-SP interview.
And then up comes the press conference in which he physically can’t do any of that. I’m positive that Victor was itching in his seat back in Hasetsu to jump in and give his “aid”, as unwanted as it would have been, and that he ultimately came away with the conclusion that “see what happens when you try and talk in front of the cameras without me?” (for various reasons).
Skipping forward a month, we see them next at the Cup of China. The first time we see the two together here, we actually get something interesting in regards to how they individually handle the media even though they’re both in the same shot. Yuuri gets thrown by a question he didn’t expect (“how strong is my power of love?”) and Victor is hyper and distractible, asking Yuuri about going for food in the middle of the interview.
Tumblr media
The only real thing to note here is just how Yuuri reacts to questions he doesn’t expect—that is, he doesn’t. So in a way you could even see Victor excited off-topic question as another attempted “save” although I doubt it was intentional this time.
Victor, however, returns to enjoying the camera attention at the kiss & cry as well as continuing to either jump in front of Yuuri (ep 7 post-skate interview) or comment from the background (ep 6 post-event interview). And of course we can’t leave out his tackle kiss on international TV.
Tumblr media
But then something changes at the Rostelecom Cup, and I’m not talking about Victor leaving to go back to Japan before the free skate.
Tumblr media
We see him in an interview at the beginning of the event attempting to actually move the attention away from himself and towards Yuuri. While the words make sense for how far he is in his character development, we then get to see how he follows that up. Victor is then seen basking in the attention of his fans at the stadium before Yuuri yanks him “down to his level” and tells him the performance has already begun.
Tumblr media
This is the moment that marks a definite shift in how Victor interacts with the media in regards to when he is on camera with Yuuri whether that be during interviews or at the kiss & cry. The next time we see the two of them, Victor is kissing Yuuri’s skate in a gesture that seems to say “I am stepping down off my pedestal and passing the reigns of media attention off to Yuuri, just as I said I would, so please focus on him. He’s the real star here”.
Tumblr media
Going into the final 2 episodes, their interactions with the media have noticeably changed. Victor no longer jumps in front of the camera. He no longer waves and makes heart shapes at the kiss & cry. He becomes a silent supporter for Yuuri or is just straight up absent such as during the post-skate interviews.
I actually feel that this speaks a lot to his character development in multiple regards.
Tumblr media
Victor’s focus has changed. Whether he realizes it or not, he stopped thinking about any kind of attention being targeted towards himself and instead has started redirecting that attention to Yuuri. It’s no longer about him on either a conscious or subconscious level. And I think this moment illustrates this point perfectly:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before we end this analysis, however, we need to take a look at the post-skate interviews for the GPF. Victor is absent in both and we as viewers know that it’s because he has other things going on (concerning, respectively, his grief and then his return to skating). I would like take a second to revisit these moments, however, to look at these disappearances from a slightly different angle.
I mentioned back at the start that Victor jumping in front of the cameras or answering questions for Yuuri was done in a misplaced desire to “protect” Yuuri from them or as a way to support him. At the end of the day that desire came down to one simple fact: he didn’t trust Yuuri to handle himself in front of the media without his support. Whether that be because of the knowledge that Yuuri gets nervous confronting situations where he doesn’t have complete control or because Victor himself is more comfortable taking the reigns in regards to media interaction as a whole, it still boiled down to the same thing.
But comparing where we started in episode 1 to the GPF, as well as the drastic shift in episode 8, I feel like we can truly get a sense of the scope of the journey Victor went through in those 9 months since he flew to Hasetsu. The ultimate reason, not the “why” he left Yuuri to deal with the media alone but the fact that that happened in the first place, is because he trusts Yuuri. He trusts Yuuri to be able to handle himself. He now has the confidence that Yuuri will be okay even if he’s not standing at the ready to jump in front of him if a question gets thrown that Yuuri isn’t completely prepared to answer.
And I feel that more than anything, it ties back into a line we hear Victor say to Yuuri within his first month in Hasetsu because while it may have been Victor’s goal to make Yuuri feel confident about himself, he definitely picked some of it up along the way.
