OC/Shepard as a companion
So ages ago the lovely @alyssalenko tagged me to do this, thank you, and sorry it took so super long! Originally this is a meme for your Shepard, but since I wanted to add a new OC to my Jules Shepard's story, I did it for her. Hope you don't mind!
Tagging @liaorban @starsandskies @playstationmademe and @galacticnug but no pressure of course, and feel free to do this for your Shep and not for an OC!
Picrew is here!
Tumblr media
THE BASICS:
Full name: Tori Robin Royle
Class: Engineer
Pre-service history: Enlisted to basic Alliance training when she was 18 in 2175. After she had finished school, she traveled around for a while, performing at different places, planning to start her career as a singer. All in her family are active Alliance soldiers though so Tori felt the pressure to enlist as well.
Psychological profile: Unlike the rest of her family, Tori wasn’t meant to be a soldier. During her basic training, where she also met Commander Shepard and became their protegé, it became clear quickly that she wouldn’t be able to fight at the front line. The Alliance encourages her to improve her tech skills though, and with hard work (and help from Shepard) Tori becomes an Engineer. While she’s not a powerful fighter, Tori can quickly oversee the battlefield in combat and debuff enemies with her tech skills, actually becoming one of the most valued Engineers in her unit. Still, Tori never really felt at home in the military and didn’t stop dreaming of a career as a musician. While Shepard oversees other young soldiers as well, they developed a special connection with Tori, reassuring her to go her own way, even if that meant leaving the Alliance. To her own surprise, Tori gets assigned to a unit that hunts down batarian pirates in 2179. During an attack she gets heavily wounded though and loses her right arm. After she spent months on her recovery, she finally decides to leave the Alliance. Not much is known about her life after that - but she did become rather well known on the Citadel, finally working as the musician she always wanted to be. The Alliance loosely keeps track of her as she’s still in contact with Commander Shepard.
Rest is under the cut :)
MASS EFFECT 1:
When/how are they recruited: She won’t be recruited in ME1. She’s 26 at this time (2183), and left the Alliance in 2180 after she couldn’t get over her accident in 2179. Tori used to play the guitar in a band, but in 2182 she started her solo-career. She’s not really a celebrity but has made a name for herself as a singer, mostly performing at bars. Shepard can meet her at the Flux where she performs on Wednesday nights with her “Oldies” show - heavily influenced by 1950s Earth music.
Where are they on the Normandy: At the Citadel. She can be found at the Flux when she performs or at the Presidium
Are they romanceable: No
Personal quest: If Shepard visits her at the Flux they can talk about their common past. Tori will ask Shepard to check on her parents who she hasn’t heard from in a few months - which is not uncommon, as they aren’t close, but she started to worry. Shepard can then check the last known coordinates for the spaceship Tori’s parents worked on and find out that there was a major technical problem. The crew was trapped on the Carrier with no means to land and no way of contacting anyone. If Shepard does the mission and saves the ship, including Tori’s parents, it will contribute to Tori and her parents getting closer plus you get to see Tori perform. If Shepard doesn’t visit Tori or doesn’t do her quest, a Turian ship will save the Carrier and Shepard will hear about it in an elevator on the Citadel.
Who are their friends: Shepard is her friend, and she would get on especially well with Liara, Joker and Kaidan.
MASS EFFECT 2:
What does their dossier say: Tori Robin Royle, or Robin Royle aka RR when she performs, is a seemingly harmless, popular singer on the Citadel. But, behind the mask of a performer, she’s a retired but very capable Engineer. She has ties to Commander Shepard, could be easily influenced to help the mission, and, as a friend, might improve Shepard’s mood and thoughts about working with Cerberus, if she is recruited.
When/how are they recruited: She can be recruited in Act 2 after Shepard went to Horizon. If Shepard was in a romantic relationship with Ashley or Kaidan, Tori will send a message to Shepard, telling them she heard what happened and is there to talk whenever they want. The Illusive Man will encourage Shepard to visit Tori on the Citadel and ask her to join as she could be a valuable asset - hinting heavily that he has the means to end Tori’s career if Shepard doesn’t ask her.
Where are they on the Normandy: Either in the Mess Hall on Deck 3 or in the Starboard Observation.
Are they romanceable: No. If Shepard doesn’t romance Thane she’ll be in a relationship with him though.
How do they react to the PC returning: She will be incredibly surprised, but happy - after all, they had been friends and Tori had grieved for them. She’d be unsure about their connection to Cerberus though, and worried that Cerberus rebuilding them might have changed them. Tori would ask Shepard some personal questions, but would stop quickly as she’d feel like she’s invading their privacy. Only later on, on the Normandy, they would talk again about how Shepard feels about working with Cerberus, their cybernetics, and their personal history.
Personal quest: Tori approaches Shepard after she gets a call from her parents. If Shepard did Tori’s assignment in ME1, she will tell them that she got a bit closer with her parents, even though they don’t see each other often. If Shepard didn’t do her quest she’ll say that her parents wouldn’t contact her if it’s not important. Tori’s brother Andrew, a rather high-ranking Alliance officer, has gone missing and the Alliance wasn’t able to investigate or didn’t share any information. Shepard and Tori will meet with the Shadow Broker, aka Liara, to get information on Tori’s brother. They will discover that the Alliance did investigate but couldn’t find out what happened to Andrew either, and that his last coordinates are somewhere on a planet in the Horse Head Nebula. After following the coordinates and finding some clues they discover that Andrew had formed a small unit to hunt down a gang of Turian pirates. The pirates got the better of them though and Andrew and his unit died - their bodies can be found inside a factory, seemingly killed in action. Tori will be devastated, even though she wasn’t close with her brother. Shepard can assure her they will hunt down the pirates (which would lead to another side quest) and that they’ll do her best so the Alliance honours his death - this will cheer Tori up a little, but it’s not necessary to gain her loyalty.
Do they fight with any other companions: She has companions she’s not very close with due to them being rather different - like Miranda, Jack or Zaeed. However she rather keeps her distance than to engage in any fights.
What files does the Shadow Broker have on them: Her personal history, information on her family and video material of some of her performances. A list of songs she wants to cover, an extensive shopping list and the history of her watched videos. If Shepard hasn’t romanced Thane, then he and Tori get close - there will also be some files of songs she wrote for him (and changed frequently) and some emails they exchanged.
Can they die in the suicide mission, and how: She can die if she’s left behind as a defender as her combat skills aren’t the best.
MASS EFFECT 3:
When/how are they recruited: After the suicide mission she takes some time off. First, she visits her family and grieves for her brother. Then she goes back to the Citadel, planning to continue working as a singer. If she’s with Thane she spends less time performing and puts all her energy into helping him find a cure. She can then be convinced to come back to the Normandy after Thane dies (or for those like me who refuse to accept that Thane dies: They both come back after the Coup). If she’s not with Thane she will still join the Normandy Crew after the Coup.
Where are they on the Normandy: Mostly in the Starboard Observatory or the Mess Hall, just like in ME2.
Are they romanceable: No. If Shepard didn’t romance Thane she’s with him.
Citadel meetup (during the game, where do you meet them on the Citadel and what do you talk about): She can be found on the Silversun Strip, happy to get the chance to perform again. Other times she’s seen with the refugees, talking to them or playing the guitar for some children. If she’s with Thane, both can also be found at the Presidium. She and Shepard would talk about their past, how things have changed, and their hobbies. If she’s with Thane Shepard can also talk about his sickness (and recovery) and how they spend their time together.
How does the PC relax with them in the Citadel DLC (ie, buying gifts with EDI, watching the game with James and Vega, etc.): Tori would invite Shepard to watch one of her performances. She’d also suggest some firearms training as she feels like she needs it. Alternatively they would go to a bar or a restaurant to talk, or go shopping for supplies (and maybe more fish).
What do they say to the PC before the final battle: “I can’t believe this is it.. I’m scared Shepard, but I’ll do my best to assist you. And please, know that whatever happens - you’ve been a true friend to me, always helpful, always supporting. I’m thankful I met you all those years ago. Now let’s go. We’ll get out of this. We’ll see each other again, I know it.“

Sunburn [Prince Zuko] 10
Tumblr media
Warnings: None   Rating: PG-13   Pairings: Zuko/OC   Summary:  “You have everything you’ve ever wanted.” “No.” He said softly. “Not everything…”  His golden eyes looked at her with a melting intensity she had never witnessed before. “I guess not.” She responded with glassy eyes as tears welled up threatening to break the dam of her eyes.
My fanfiction: M A S T E R L I S T
"This is what I've been missing." Iroh sighed happily as he received a relaxing massage. He could feel the tension on his shoulder's easing as the masseuse worked wonders on his knotted aching muscles.
"Who knew being lost at sea for three weeks with no food or water, and sea vultures waiting to pluck out your liver could make one so tense?" he said as he sighed in satisfaction.
The resort was beyond relaxing. The temperature was hot, soothing, yet not suffocating. Plum blossoms still bloomed here leaving a trail of lost flowers and petals to be carried away dancing with the wind.
"I can't believe I did that twice," Tsai said more to herself as she sat on a low table in the room writing with a large ink brush on a parchment she would send to her brother the corner of her eye twitching in annoyance. Honestly if she could survive being stuck on a small boat with Prince Zuko and Uncle Iroh without any of them killing each other she could survive anything.
xxx
Being at sea had been a nightmare, but it had been better than when she endured it by herself. Iroh would tell them stories about the war and about the good old times that he had shared with her grandfather. He would tell jokes and Tsai and him would pass time singing old sailor tunes.
Sometimes to pass time they would play Tic Tac Toe with some of the nuts and bolts that were lying around the floor of the small ship. Zuko would always rage whenever he lost against her.
"You're cheating!" "I don't want to play this stupid game anymore!" He would seethe in anger. Simply making Tsai laugh, he was such a sore loser.
At night the three would look at the stars and think of names for the constellations and stories behind them.
"That one looks like a platypus bear!" Tsai pointed "It's eating honey, do you see it? It's so cute!" "It looks like two dragons mauling each other to death," Zuko said darkly. She turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow in concern and he turned away grumpily, his arms crossed over his chest. Iroh had simply chuckled.
xxx
Iroh turned his head slightly and looked at his unhappy nephew sitting on the floor with his back to the doorway. Tsai had also noticed that Zuko had been in a particularly difficult mood today. She decided it was best to avoid it and try best not to trigger him. It was then that Iroh hopped off the table (he was wearing pants thank the spirits) and approached his brooding nephew sitting cross-legged besides him.
"I see," Iroh suddenly said in understanding. Iroh was funny like that. He could even understand and translate different types of silence. Feeling the air grow heavy Tsai decided to excuse herself and go check the hawkery for any messages of her brother. She tried to meet Zuko's eyes but he kept his head lowered and a conical hat to hide his expression as he brooded.
"It's the anniversary, isn't it?" She heard Iroh said just after she stepped out. She stopped just around the corner. Pressing her back against the other side of the wall.
She thought. What if- she did something nice for him today? She shook her head and went ahead to look for a message from her brother. She was ready to go home. She had had enough adventuring for now. She was ready to return to her governing duties and leg for forgiveness from her parents. she missed her bed, her room, her brother and simply having tea in the garden on the afternoons. Excitement brewed as she thought about being back home. Homesickness really was no joke, specially after being lost at sea- twice.
There were no news from Mecha yet. She blew out a lost strand of hair that had fallen out of place and with her hands on her hips decided on the best idea to keep busy by checking out the Resort's beach. When suddenly the Firehawk came. She recognized the Vice Royal insignia from Yu Dao immediately.
She greeted the bird, gave it a treat and took the message.
Her eyes rapidly took in her brother's words. His message. She scrolled each sentence faster and faster. Her lips parting. Mouth going dry. Heart beating fast. Her back began knotting with anxiety.
She flipped the note and found no other trace of the message. She clutched the letter close to her chest and painfully swallowed the sobs that had began to escape from her trembling lips. Waterfalls of tears slipped down her eyes as her knees gave. The tears just wouldn't stop pouring.
She didn't know how long she sat by the Resort's hawkery. What was she supposed to do now? To say? She couldn't go back home- what was she to do?
It was a little before the sunset when she gathered the strength to rise. She walked towards the beach that was in front of the resort house they three of them were sharing where Tsai had her own bedroom and Zuko and his uncle shared another one. She sat on the sand hunched over hugging her knees, head buried into them. She closed her eyes and let the sound of the sea shore waves lull her.
"Rough day," She heard a familiar voice say next to her. It was more a statement than a question.
Her head hurt, remaining in that position she turned her head to see the prince taking seat next to her in the darkness of the beach. The air was much colder now. It was dark with the exception of the full moon above reflecting just enough moonlight. It was peaceful. Her eyes were swollen from crying so much and her makeup had been smudged around her eyes. She remained silent and turned forward her eyes getting lost in the dark sea before them. Feeling self conscious she lowered her arms and straightened out her back just like she had been taught to her entire life. She took a deep breath of fresh air. Zuko was unsure of what to say. His Uncle had been worried when she had been absent for so long, and then he had been very worried when she missed dinner. Tsai never missed dinner.
"Was it something I said?" Zuko's first instinct was to blame himself. Maybe he had looked at her the wrong way? Made a snide comment? Afterall it wasn't his day either. However, Iroh knew these things. "I think it's beyond us," he commented. His wise eyes fixed on the girl sitting alone at the beach.
He took in a deep breath. Unsure of what to say what to do. What would a normal person do?
"You know... Three years ago today, I was banished," he began in a solemn tone. "I lost it all. I want it back. I want the Avatar, I want my honor, my throne. I want my father not to think I'm worthless," He fisted palmfuls of sand between angrily sand slipping through his fingers.
Normally Tsai would've been more empathetic. Instead her eyes remained fixed on the nothingness before. Hearing a crumbled up noise it was then that he realized she had been clutching something tightly to her chest. She removed the parchment paper and simply handed it to him, her cold eyes not facing him. He uncrumpled it and read:
'Tsai,
You have to make me a promise. No matter what happens. You will not look for me. You will not come home.
You will not respond to this letter.
You will not return home.
You will not seek me out.
I'm afraid I do not write to you with good news. Word of your betrayal to our nation has reached Yu Dao and you have been identified. Mother is beyond reason and absolutely inconsolable. You have broken the heart of our nation. Fire Lord Ozai suspects that our family is planning a coup de'etat against the crown and an uprising against the nation in Yu Dao. Officials have been sniffing around and poking holes in our lives. There are spies everywhere and nobody is safe.
And so they came for dad since they couldn't find you... Because of this I have decided to answer to these false claims and own up to them.
For our nation.
For our family.
For you.
I love you Tsai.
I don't want to put any more pressure on you, but make it count. Make a difference. If any one can change this world. It's you.
Be well, I know that we meet again under better circumstances my dear sister.
Your brother, Mecha'
Now he understood. He shared a moment of silence with her.
She had lost everything. She had lost her home, her nation, her brother. She had nowhere to go and was an outlaw in the eyes of her country and an enemy in the eyes of the others. She had brought shame and dishonor to her family.
She lowered her head once again in an attempt to hide the stray tear that had slipped from the window of her eyes. His emotions were thrown into a whirlpool. This wouldn't have happened if she hadn't come with them, this would not have happened if she hadn't freed the Avatar. She had done that for him. No matter how he saw it he now felt burdened by her demons.
Fate had tied and tangled them up together now and they had been and were currently struggling to stay afloat in the same boat. Zuko felt like he would only be her demise.
She let out a shaky breath, surprised at the skin to skin contact when he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close. She wanted to stop crying, she had to stop crying but she just couldn't. She wondered if this is what he felt like all the time. If this was the burden that he had to carry upon his shoulders. She felt even worse for having just brushed past his demons the first time he brought them up to her.
"Tsai," he suddenly spoke. "I promise you," she turned to look at him. His eyes were blazing in the moonlight. "I'm not going to let anyone or anything hurt you. We're going to get it all back," he said determined. "Our nation, our honor, our families." His eyes were hard. "The only way is to capture the Avatar."
Already vulnerable. Her breath caught when she looked at him, his eyes, there was something about them that was different. The grip he had on her shoulder tightened and she could feel a knot forming in her throat her stomach made an involuntary flip. She looked at him, at his scarred face and then at his lips. Her eyes lingered there for a moment and she found herself unable to speak.
"Come on," He said stroking her upper arm. "Let's go," he helped her to her feet.
Xxx
The next day had been more normal. The three of them had spent the morning at the beach. They wore robes that had been provided by the resort . Zuko sat under the shade of an umbrella grumpily watching with his arms crossed.
Being here was a waste of time. He couldn't afford to be here any more while his Uncle and Tsai played in the ocean. The two were knee deep in the water looking around for sea shells and conches. Iroh had never had a daughter but he assumed this is what it would've been like.
"Look Iroh!" She said picking up a large conch that she had to hold with both of hers hands. It was large and pink with swirls of violet. They had a conversation which was inaudible to Zuko. Last night had been different... he thought to himself as he shifted uncomfortably in the sand. He had always had few friends but he had certainly never divulged such raw emotions to another human being, much less a girl for that matter.
He heard a horn being blown and saw the girl from the colonies and his uncle laughing as she blew into a conch letting the song of the sea play. The two of them shared a laugh.
Some moments later they returned to the living room of the resort house. Iroh smiled happily as he walked in he carefully dumped the contents of the small satchel he was carrying onto the table, the various shells and gifts from the sea tumbling out. Tsai did the same smiling broadly.
"Look at these magnificent shells!" Iroh exclaimed as he held up one of the shells to show Zuko then picked up a conch shell that Tsai had picked out, "I'll enjoy these keepsakes for years to come."
"Do you think we could make them into bracelets?" She suggested. Already thinking that the three could wear a set of cheesy matching seashell accessories. Iroh was about to respond when Zuko interrupted.
Sometimes he thought his uncle loved her more than he loved him and the thought drove him mad.
"We don't need any more useless things!" Zuko snapped angrily as he threw his hands in the air in exasperation at his uncle and the teen. "You two forget, we have to carry everything ourselves now!"
The room grew silent as a strange voice intruded.
"Hello, brother. Uncle."
Zuko whirled around and his eyes narrowed as he glared at his sister, Azula, who was ominously sitting in a dark corner of the room with her feet propped up on the other table in the room.
"What are you doing here?" The scarred teen snarled angrily.
'Brother?! So this was the Fire Nation's princess.' Tsai had only heard rumors about Azula back in Yu Dao. The Upper Circle nobles from the colonies had never seen her. However, the rumors were that she was a fire prodigy; she was rumored to be both beautiful and deathly. She could instantly see the resemblance as both siblings shared the same features, golden eyes, pale faces and thick black hair. Except in contrast to Azula there was something about Zuko that made him seemed more untamed, perhaps. more human was a better way to put it. Azula moved gracefully almost as if every movement had been calculated to perfection and rehearsed. Even her hair was parted perfectly in the middle of her symmetrical face. Not a single hair was out of place.
"In my country, we exchange a pleasant hello before asking questions." Azula snipped in a mock-pleasant tone as she held up a shell then stood up and walked over to the three of them "Have you become uncivilized so soon, Zuzu?"
Tsai couldn't help but giggle at the nickname 'Zuzu, really?'
"Don't call me that!" Zuko hissed furiously, embarrassed at the nickname. His fists clenched at his sides as he glared at her his eyes shifted around he room, he did not want Tsai knowing that was the stupid nickname his sister had given him.
"And you must be Tsai of Yu Dao," Azula raised an eyebrow in intrigued. Her eyes wondered every inch of Tsai's body from her smallest toe to the tip of her auburn hair as they raked in her body. "Oh, We've heard all about you," she said smugly looking down on the other teen. "I've gotta say Zuko, she really is a step down from Mai. Including the tacky red-head," she scoffed. "You could do better," she said maliciously with a wicked grin.
"Hey!" Tsai protested with an angry expression giving a step forward but Iroh held her back grabbing onto her sleeve holding her in place.
"To what do we owe this honor?" Iroh cut in quickly, even though his tone was clearly upset.
"Hmm...must be a family trait. Both of you so quick to the point." Azula mused then smirked cruelly as she shattered a shell in her hand with her tight hand grip, her smirk growing at the angry look Iroh sent her. Tsai was also glaring daggers at her. Her hair wasn't tacky! And more importantly. Who in the hell was Mai? Also just who did she think she was to talk to her like that?
"I've come with a message from home. Father's changed his mind." She played with her hair. "Family is suddenly very important to him. He's heard rumors of plans to overthrow him; treacherous plots," Her eyes landed on the red-head in front of her for a second. The vile smirk on her face stretched even wider at the mention of the treason of the Vice Royal family of Yu Dao.
"Family are the only ones you can trust now" Azula said sweetly then paused briefly as she looked at Zuko, "Father regrets your banishment. He wants you home."
Silence was her only response and her eyes narrowed as she glared at her older brother. Zuko turned away from his sister. Instead he turned to face the open window where the light breeze blew. He looked at the pink plum blossom trees that swayed with the wind. Tsai reached for his arm. There was something she didn't like about this.
"Did you hear me?" She demanded angrily as she ran her fingers through her bangs, "You should be happy. Excited. Grateful. I just gave you great news."
"I'm sure your brother simply needs a moment." Iroh explained as he watched Azula warily his eyes bleeding with suspicion.
"Don't interrupt, Uncle!" the princess snarled at the older man then looked at Zuko condescendingly, "I still haven't heard my thank you. I'm not a messenger. I didn't have to come all this way."
Tsai wasn't sure what to say - what to do. It wasn't her place to speak. This was clearly a family affair that she was meddling in, but she loathed the way that Azula spoke to Iroh.
"Father regrets?" Zuko asked in surprise as he looked at his sister in shock, "He...wants me back?"
"I can see you need time to take this in." Azula commented drily as she started towards the door of the home. "And in regards of you,"she turned and flashed Tsai an intense glare. She couldn't tell if it was one of distaste or interest. It was hard to tell with her maniacal persona.
"You best pray my father takes pity on you. Then again, he's not much of a forgiving man."
Her jaw tightened at her words. Blood running cold.
"I'll come to call on you tomorrow. Good evening."
Zuko stared at the floor blankly as he pondered everything his sister had just said while Iroh watched him worriedly his eyes clouded with concern.
xxx
"We're going home!" Zuko stated excitedly as he packed his belongings up, "After three long years, it's unbelievable!"
Tsai had never seen Zuko in such a good mood. He almost moved like a spring buck almost as if a massive load had been lifted off from his shoulders.
Iroh stared out the window of the small house and stroked his beard thoughtfully, "It is unbelievable. I have never known my brother to regret anything or to be the forgiving kind." He said pensively.
"More like you're going home. And what am I supposed to do?" The girl said upset as she rose from her seat on the ground. "You really think the Fire Lord is going to pardon me for my treachery? Let me family go just like that?"
"Did you listen to Azula? Father's realized how important family is to him!" Zuko retorted in irritation, "He won't hurt you if I ask him to." Zuko said as he packed the little belongings that he had with him. There was something in her gut that twisted uneasily and told her otherwise. She looked at him with uncertainty. "He cares about me!" Zuko said almost with glee.
"I care about you!" Iroh snapped back as he turned to face his obstinate uncle with his arms spread out slightly, "And if Ozai wants you back, well, I think it may not be for the reasons you imagine."
Zuko turned his back on Iroh, his shoulders tense, "You don't know how my father feels about me. You don't know anything!"
"Zuko," Iroh said softly in an attempt to placate the scarred prince, "I only meant that in our family, things are not always what they seem."
"I think you are exactly what you seem!" Zuko snarled as he whirled around to glare at his uncle, "A lazy, mistrustful, shallow old man who's always been jealous of his brother!"
"Hey!" Tsai's voice roared and echoed the small house. She had never raised her voice at somebody like that. It was one thing not to meddle in family affairs, but he had crossed the line. The sad expression on Iroh's face broke her heart. Zuko turned to see the scowl on his face. "Need I remind you have no business here. Colonial pest..." He uttered under his breath.
Her eyes went wide with hurt. And here she thought he had changed. She was so angry at herself. Angry for believing his façade. For thinking he would actually change. For actually allowing herself to develop feelings for him. Zuko stormed out of the small house and into the night. Iroh's heart hurting slightly he sighed and lowered his head.
"Forgive my nephew, he often speaks before he thinks."
Tsai lowered her eyes.
"I don't know how much more I can forgive."
Iroh remained silent.
"Iroh, I don't think I can go with you tomorrow." She spoke after a moment of silence. "Frankly, I don't trust Azula, and I don't believe the Fire Lord to be the forgiving kind. Tomorrow morning I'm taking off on my own."
Iroh simply nodded his head. "I understand. And where will you go?"
She was quiet for a moment. Unsure of what to respond. Where to go. She had lost her home, she had lost everything. She shrugged her arms. "Wherever the wind takes me," she breathed out suddenly feeling the spirit of a bohemian live seem more appealing than a life in prison. "Maybe I'll even be the one to find the Avatar. Who knows?"
"Oh Tsai," Iroh face palmed. "Not you too.." He said with a small frown on his face.
She was quiet for a moment as she pondered her next question.
"Iroh," she began. "Do you-Do you think we are evil? The Fire Nation I mean. When I was in the Water Tribe with the Avatar and his friends. I was called the enemy. People in the streets spat at me and shunned me for sins that are not mine. I tried to explain that everything we did was for the greater good. To share the beauty and power of our nation with the rest of the world just like we have all been taught- but they didn't see it that way. They said... horrible things to me." she said avoiding his golden eyes feeling as if he was analyzing her eyer move and expression.
"Life is neither good or evil, but only a place for good and evil," Iroh spoke wisely as he hid his hands inside of his sleeves appearing even more sage like. "The battle line between good and evil runs thought the heart of every man and woman. The key, like everything is to find the balance. Good and evil. The elements. humans. All should find its place and balance in nature," he explained.
She cocked her head to the side confused by his riddling words and scratched her chin as she thought hard about his words.
"Are you saying that good and evil are subjective?" She questioned.
Iroh let out a sigh and shook his head as this philosophical conversation was not going as he had intended too. He presumed the girl was still too young to comprehend such abstract topics.
"Why don't you put some tea?" he asked with a small smile.
Xxx
The next morning. Zuko walked down almost skipping down the stone staircase towards the docks where he could see Azula's Royal warship waiting, his belongings slung over his shoulder. The wind was crisp and fresh, skies were clear. Zuko found himself walking a little taller today. After three long years in exile he was finally going home. He would no longer be the banished prince. His father was ready to receive him with warm open arms.
"Wait! Don't leave without me!"
He paused and turned, setting his pack down and smiled. "Uncle! You've changed your mind."
"Family sticks together, right?" Iroh stated with a small smile as he placed a hand on his nephew's shoulder.
Zuko smiled slightly as he remembered his father resting his hand on his shoulder when he was younger. He looked over Iroh's shoulder to see if by any chance Tsai would've tailed behind him but there was no sign of her. She had refused to leave the room this morning after their fight last night. A part of him couldn't believe it would be the last time he would see her... He had royally screwed up this time. The scarred prince shook his head slightly and turned back to look at the ship again.
"We're finally going home!" He said excitedly as he attempted to shake the dark cloud from raining on his parade.
However the slow seemed to grow larger and larger with each step he gave until it clouded his mind and made him cave.
"Where is Tsai?" He asked before descending. "Tsai," Iroh sighed. "Has made a decision not to continue her journey with us." "What?" Zuko once again dropped his sack in surprise. "So you're just going to let her stay here? Alone?" He raised his voice instantly becoming aggravated. "She made her own decision and after your behavior last night and frankly I am not surprised," Iroh shook his head looking at his nephew with disappointment. "You have to think before you act Zuko. I know you did not mean what you said but a woman's heart is a sensitive and very complex affair."
Zuko looked at the top of the stairs and made an impulsive run for it. However was stopped by his uncle.
"Let her go." He said wisely. "If she doesn't come back it was never meant to be." He looked at his uncle with hard eyes and back to the top of the stairs where nobody stood. Before turning away and resuming their descent. He wondered if their paths would ever meet again. Where would she even go? It's not like she could return home.
Iroh frowned slightly as he looked at Azula's ship with suspicion following his nephew.
Iroh watched the soldiers standing on either side of the dock cautiously as he and Zuko made their way towards the ramp of the ship where Azula was standing quietly at the top of the ramp with two more soldiers on either side of her.
"Brother! Uncle! Welcome!" Azula greeted warmly as Zuko and Iroh stopped a little bit in front of the ship's captain at the bottom of the ramp and the three bowed to each other, "I'm so glad you decided to come." Two rows of at least a dozen Fire Nation soldiers stood behind them.
"Wait!" somebody shouted from behind. The sea of soldiers parted open to reveal the girl from the colonies standing at the very end of the stone bridge. She stood catching her breath slightly and leaned over resting her palms on her bent knees as she regained her composire. She wore her usual ochre colored long sleeved blouse and her brown skirt and above the knee boots. Her long auburn hair was worn half up and she carried a sack with her few belongings over her shoulder. "Wait!" She caught her breath as she approached Iroh and Zuko at the very front leaning forward resting the palms of her hands on her knees once again.
Zuko would never admit it but a part of him was happy to know she would be rejoining them in their journey.
Iroh's eyes opened slightly and he looked at the soldiers suspiciously then he straightened, the two lines of soldiers fell in line behind Zuko, Tsai and Iroh, closing the aisle the three of them had walked through a moment ago.
"Have you decided to come and beg for mercy before my father you half-breed mutt?" Azula taunted maliciously a vile twinkled in her eyes.
Tsai's flinched at the insult. The fact that her mother was from the Earth Nation and that her father was from the Fire Nation had always been a touchy taboo subject amongst the Upper Circles of Fire Nation officials.
"Hey!" She was surprised to see Zuko come to her defense. He glared at Azula angry and the girl simply shrugged flipping a strand of hair back into place.
"I just came to say goodbye," She turned to look at Iroh and then at Zuko with sadness clouding her warm eyes. "Aw, how touching," Azula said mockingly rolling her eyes. She really didn't have time for these sappy moments.
"Are we ready to depart, Your Highness?" The captain asked as he turned and walked forward slightly to stand at the very end of the ramp.
Iroh hugged her tightly as they bid their goodbyes.
"Tsai," Zuko turned to face her. "Home...," he whispered. "Come home with us! I promise you I won't allow anything to happen to you. I'll convince my father to pardon you. To pardon your family. I'm sure he'll understand once we explain," he spoke in a hopeful tone. Her eyes lingered on the stoney ground. She shook her head side to side. "No... I'm sorry," she whispered. "Goodbye." She said looking at him Zuko with hard eyes.
There was something about this entire situation that made her feel ill.
"Set our course for home, captain." Azula instructed sweetly as the auburn haired girl stepped back.
"You heard the princess!" The captain barked, raising his hand as he walked up the ramp, "Raise the anchors! We're taking the prisoners home!"
The captain's eyes went wide when he realized his mistake and he looked at Azula, whose expression when from surprised to furious in less than a hot second.
"Your Highness, I..." The captain started nervously just as Iroh narrowed his eyes and he suddenly attacked the guards, pushing them off the edge of the walkway and sending fire blasts at them.
Zuko snarled as he stomped furiously up the ramp, throwing the captain off as he stalked past him.
"You lied to me!" He shouted as he glared at his sister angrily, still standing several feet away from her on the ramp.
"Like I've never done that before." Azula retorted smugly as she turned her back on Zuko, waving her hand slightly and the two guards standing on either side of her suddenly shot fire blasts at the banished prince.
Zuko crossed his arms then spread them outward quickly, deflecting the attacks. He shouted angrily as he charged onto the ship to chase after his younger sister.
Zuko snarled as he leapt onto the deck of his sister's ship and sent two fire blasts at the guards, knocking them off the ship. He spun around to face Azula, who was standing patiently several feet away with her back turned and her hands clasped behind her. Azula glanced over her shoulder and smirked at her brother condescendingly. Zuko's fists clenched and fire daggers appeared as he prepared to attack his sister.
"Zuko!" Iroh shouted from the dock where he was still attacking the guards, "Let's go!" Tsai did the best to handle herself and had just kicked a guard into the ocean water.
The former general tossed one of the guards over the edge then stepped to the side to the side to avoid another guard's attack.
Zuko ignored his uncle and charged at Azula with his fire daggers, attempting to strike her with them but the princess easily dodged all of his blows with a smirk firmly on her young face. Zuko bared his teeth as he continued to attack his sister as she continued to dodge backwards. Zuko brought his right hand down in an attempt to land another blow. However Azula blocked his attack with her forearm then grabbed his wrist with one hand and slipped her wrist against the crook of his elbow. She swung him around easily and shoved him away from her, smirking as he panted.
"You know father blames Uncle for the loss of the North Pole." Azula taunted him maliciously, her smirk widening, "And he considers you a miserable failure for not finding the Avatar! Why would he want you back home, except to lock you up where you can no longer embarrass him?"
Zuko snarled and conjured two fire daggers again then leapt into the air and sent a powerful fire blast at Azula using his foot. The princess smirked and jumped away, landing safely several feet away in a crouch. The banished prince charged at her as she rose to her feet, dodging the blows her furious brother attempted land on her as she backed up further.
Azula lashed out at Zuko suddenly, leaving three scratch marks on his temple which caused Zuko to fall back. The scarred prince roared and charged at Azula again, swinging his fire daggers viciously at her, but she continued to dodge and block his attacks easily as she backed up the steps leading to the command tower of the ship.
The two fighting siblings reached the top of the stairs and Azula grabbed hold of Zuko's arm and the two stare at each other silently for a few seconds then Zuko's eyes went wide alarmed and Azula smirked. She then launched blue flames at Zuko, knocking him off his feet and back down the stairs to land on the deck.
Zuko pushed himself up slightly and turned his head to look at his sister, his vision blurred from the blow as well as the light of the flames. His vision focused on Azula just as she began moving her arms in a circular motion, lightning beginning to crackle at her fingertips.
Azula sneered as she prepared to fire the lightning bolt at her brother but her attack was suddenly halted when Iroh grabbed hold of her right hand and twisted around, redirecting the lightning towards a far-off cliff side. The former general quickly twisted Azula's arm, causing her to bend backwards. Tsai then stepped in and using all of her leg strength kicked Azula her off the ship roughly, causing her to land in the water with a loud splash.
Iroh rushed towards Zuko and grabbed his nephew by the arm and the trio raced away from the ship as far and as fast as they could, heading back up the stone stairs and towards into the lost woods.
Normally Tsai would've rubbed in Zuko's face that she was right and that he owed both her and Uncle Iroh an apology but it was not the time. They had to get out of here fast.

Azula stood on the porch of the main building of the village resort her uncle and brother had been staying at, her eyes narrowed as she looked at the gathered crowd with two Royal Procession guards standing behind her.
"Anyone who harbors these traitors will face the wrath of the Fire Lord!" The Fire Nation Princess snarled angrily as she held up the wanted poster with Zuko, Iroh and Tsai's portraits painted on it. She laid one hand on the balcony, sneering when the residents cowered away in fear, "There will be no place left to hide!"
Zuko, Tsai and Iroh panted as they raced along the river away from the village resort, away from Azula and the Fire Nation. The three finally came to a stop and Zuko and his uncle fell to ground beside the river, catching their harsh breaths. Tsai leaned against the tree catching her own.
"I think we're safe here." Iroh said after his breathing slowed and helooked around carefully, then he looked at his silent nephew.
"I told you so-" Tsai breathed. "I told you so! So did Uncle Iroh!" She called out. However, her declarations fell to silent ears. She turned to see Zuko starring at the flowing water before him then pulled out a small dagger and held it up, the blade reflecting the sunlight. Iroh closed his eyes sadly for a moment then watched as his nephew held the knife under his ponytail.
She looked at them sadly. Their hair... It was was connected them to the Royal family. To their nation. It was a part of them just as much as they were both a part of the Royal Fire Nation family.
Zuko shut his eyes tightly and sliced his ponytail off then he held the dagger out to Iroh without looking at him as he stared at his ponytail in his hand. Iroh took the dagger and cut off his topknot, holding it in his hand. The banished prince stared at the ponytail for a moment then let it fall from his and into the river, watching as it along with his uncle's topknot float down the river.
The two kneeled quietly beside the river as they processed the magnitude of what had just transpired. And just like that they had just renounced to their royal titles. She looked at them with uncertainty and Iroh turned to look at her.
"Your hair," he said looking at her odd colored hair. "It's going to be a problem," he said raising in her direction. She ran a hand through her long hair which almost reached down to her mid back. She held it in her hands tightly. She couldn't. She possible couldn't...

"My brother and my uncle have disgraced the Fire Lord, and have brought shame on all of us!" Azula declared. "And that little red haired minx," she thought of the angry expression on the colonial girl's face. "That red haired little minx..." Azula repeated more to herself this time...
A sly smiled spread across her pink tinted lips in fascination. She would be hers.

Sometimes violence proves necessary to ensure peace. After the bloody coup against King Asgore, the Underground changed for the better. Monsters no longer killed for fear of being killed if they didn’t have a high enough LV. The toll of despair no longer drove monsters to fall down. The reign of the new skeleton lamia king ushered in an era of a previously unheard of concept- hope.
At first, powerful boss monsters went into hiding, fearing that they may become the next targets of a ruthless and bloodthirsty monarch. Contrary to the previous regime, Edge felt no need to dust monsters who already acknowledged his superiority, and this philosophy spread through the Underground. Boss monsters staked out territory, and weaker monsters swore fealty to them in exchange for protection. Displays of power settled disputes now rather than outright murder.
Clever monsters with low battle stats offered their services to the Royal Scientist, Alphys, and soon the creepy lizard monster had her lackeys repairing the infrastructure of the entire kingdom. The pittance of EXP that weak monsters provided paled in comparison to the value of labor, so Edge sat upon his throne, unchallenged, watching his domain prosper and his children grow strong before his watchful eyelights.
Edge kept himself busy by breeding his rarely-clothed queen, the skeleton monster named Red, as often as possible while his children were distracted by other pursuits, taking the submissive skeleton whenever and wherever he pleased, including on the floor of the throne room during a particularly uninteresting audience. Red had produced no additional offspring, but Edge didn’t mind in the slightest. He’d grown quite fond of his mate and enjoyed watching him squirm and scream in pleasure when Edge fucked him. The mantle of King truly suited the lamia well.
Though his kingdom flourished under his competent rule, one thing still weighed heavily upon Edge’s mind: his unpaid debt to Grillby. Without the fire elemental’s grudging actions, Edge would have dusted, and the throne left unclaimed, sparking further war and bloodshed in the Underground. The enormous skeleton lamia knew that Red had manipulated Grillby’s feelings for him to coerce the fire elemental into helping him, but regardless of the reason for the assistance, it had been given. Edge waited impatiently for Grillby to collect his favor, but the fire elemental took his sweet time, leaving his new king in frustrating suspense as each hour, day, and week ticked by with no communication.
Grillby took advantage of the changing hierarchy in the Underground to further establish his dominance of Snowdin, where he lived and conducted his business. No monster in the region could match his power, and few monsters in the entire Underground even had the privilege of seeing that power for themselves and surviving. The fact that a fire elemental chose to live in a land of perpetual winter stood as a testament either to Grillby’s tremendous fortitude or his complete insanity; nobody dared to speculate which.
The purple-flamed monster ignored the uncollected debt that the new king owed him. He swept the street in front of his shop, indifferent to the flakes of snow sizzling in his flames. He knew that a powerful boss monster like Edge would hate to have such an open-ended obligation hanging over him, but Grillby opted to let him stew in it. The skeleton lamia only possessed one thing that Grillby wanted, and the fire elemental doubted that Edge would be willing to give up his mate, life debt or no life debt.
Would Red even want to be with him? Grillby recalled his suffering during the time that Red had been missing. He remembered the yawning maw of despair in his mind at the thought that the stocky skeleton could be dust, settled somewhere that Grillby would never find him. He had mentally kicked himself so many times for not confessing to Red how he really felt, for not admitting to emotions that monsters couldn’t afford to acknowledge in a kill or be killed world. Back then, he suspected that Red also harbored the type of love for him that had nothing to do with violence and everything to do with desire for companionship. Now, doubt gripped him, preventing him from even visiting the Capitol since Edge took the throne.
The unanswered question gnawed at Grillby incessantly, stealing away the potential comfort of a peaceful Underground. Time passed, and idle wondering turned into obsessive brooding. Grillby examined the possibilities from every angle, played out every scenario in his head. He had to find out. He needed that closure. Grillby decided that he would make use of his royal favor after all, and once that decision was made, there was no longer any reason to wait.
Grillby visited the palace for an audience with the King.
Edge never deigned to sit properly upon the gilded throne in his Throne Room. He preferred to coil around it as if it were prey that he intended to strangle the life out of and crouch over the spires of the back like a hulking gargoyle. His mate, Red, usually perched on one of the velvet padded arms of the great chair or lounged nonchalantly at the base, leaning against the giant lamia’s thick tail.
The royal children- twelve young lamias and a skeleton babybones- wrestled playfully on the smooth marble floor of the Throne Room under the diligent eyelights of their doting parents. When a fire elemental arrived to conduct business, escorted by the Captain of the Royal Guard herself, the little ones made themselves scarce, scattering into the hidden depths of the palace just as their father taught them. This was Edge’s insurance policy in case a second revolt aimed to unseat him from sovereignty.  No matter what happened, his children would survive.
The slim gold chain connecting Red’s spiked collar to his master and lover jingled as Red jolted upright in surprise. Other denizens of Snowdin, some of them old pals of Red’s from what seemed like a lifetime ago, came by regularly for Royal Guard reports or simply to pay homage to their new king, Grillby had avoided them since the day Red’s children were born, and the rejection stung. Grillby barely glanced at Red who lowered himself back into his position at the foot of the throne, scowling at his former friend and ex lover.
“SSSPEAK!” hissed Edge, eyelights narrowed and body tense. The purple-flamed bartender wanted to discuss business, but Edge wasn’t eager to hear his request. His code of honor forbade him from simply killing Grillby to make his own life easier which meant that he would hear the fire elemental’s demands, however ludicrous they might be, and they proved to be quite ludicrous indeed.
“I’ve come to collect,” replied Grillby, as cool as a monster composed entirely of fire could be. His almost indistinguishable eyes, hidden behind the sunglasses that he wore despite the lack of any sun in the Underground, fell on Red, namely on Red’s collar.
“AND?” Edge’s impatience seeped into the solitary syllable, conveying the nature of the very dangerous ground upon which Grillby tread.
“I want Red.” Grillby pointed unnecessarily to the short skeleton. He stepped out of the way a millisecond before Edge’s heavy tail struck the floor where he’d been standing, shattering the marble and sending splinters of it flying in every direction.
“HOW DARE YOU!” roared Edge, rearing back to strike Grillby. The fire elemental summoned flames into his hands, squaring off with the enraged lamia. Red leapt between them to prevent a fight that could only end in the death of one or both combatants. “CONSSSIDER YOUR CONTINUED EXISSSTENCE REPAYMENT OF MY DEBT,” spat the seething lamia.
“It’s not your debt I’m collecting on, Your Majesty,” sneered Grillby, injecting as much contempt into the title as Edge had injected his venom into the former king. “It’s his.” Once again the fire elemental’s finger jabbed in Red’s direction. “He left Snowdin behind along with a mountain of unpaid bills to my establishment.”
Ever since he met the skeleton lamia, Red had trusted Edge to make the important decisions. Aside from their initial confrontation, Edge always kept Red’s best interests in the forefront of his actions. This situation, however, required Red to speak for himself. His long list of IOUs had once been a running joke at Grillby’s bar, a joke that both Red and Grillby participated in, but somehow that camaraderie had turned to bitterness, with jealousy the driving force behind it.
“ya really think treating me like some commodity ta be traded is gonna fix things between us? i thought ya knew me better than that, Grillbs.” Red’s words were sincere, but they hit Grillby like a slap in what passed for his face. At least the fire monster had the decency to shuffle uncomfortably at the admonishment.
“NOW GET OUT,” added Edge, who harbored no soft spot for Grillby, no patience for diplomacy or logic, and no intention of relinquishing his mate.
“Afraid of a little competition?” Grillby suggested, voice full of malicious antagonism. The air in the Throne Room vibrated with Edge’s mounting rage, and Red feared that he wouldn’t be able to keep the two monsters from fighting for much longer. “How about a compromise?”
If Grillby were any other type of monster, the intensity of the skeleton lamia’s glowing crimson glare would’ve scorched him to ashes. Grilly’s devil-may-care demeanor faltered slightly, and he hurried to deliver his offer before Edge wrote Red off as collateral damage and charged him. He didn’t doubt his skills in combat, but injury to Red was an unacceptable risk. Red may have trusted Edge with his single HP; Grillby did not.
Grilly addressed Red directly for the first time. “Let me have just one night with you, Red. Let me prove myself to you, and if you still prefer him-” He jerked a thumb at Edge. “-then I won’t bother either of you again.”
Edge snarled, showing his venom-dripping fangs. “WHAT MAKESSS YOU THINK-”
“i accept,” Red interrupted, making Edge blink comically in surprise. He had never considered that Red might want to sleep with Grillby, and a seed of doubt embedded itself in his SOUL. Red wore his collar for now, but what if he planned to leave, to choose another monster as his mate? Edge could kill Grillby. He could force Red to stay with him, force Red to submit to him, but he couldn’t force Red to want him.
Grillby smirked, but Edge silenced him with a growling hiss before turning to his mate. “I’M NOT LEAVING YOU ALONE WITH HIM,” Edge stated firmly, and Red nodded.
“ya wanna watch? kinky…” Red chuckled, not blind to the gravity of the situation, but choosing to make light of it anyway. Some coping mechanisms never changed. At least Red’s concession placated Grillby, whose victorious smirk could only be read by those who knew him well enough to recognize his expressions.
“Shall we go back to my place and-”
“YOU’LL TAKE HIM HERE AND NOW OR NOT AT ALL,” Edge cut in. He would not permit Grillby to leave the palace with Red unsupervised and outside of his immediate control. Red nodded in agreement. If it would set his mate’s mind at ease, he could perform just fine in the Throne Room with the massive lamia watching. Red hardly considered comfort or privacy a necessity for sex.
Grillby snorted but didn’t argue. Let the skeleton lamia watch; maybe the asshole would learn something about pleasuring Red properly instead of treating him like a disposable fucktoy. The lesson would start with removing the ridiculous collar that marked Red as claimed property. Grillby reached for the slim leather band circling Red’s neck, mindful of the spikes meant to discourage removal. Red brushed his hand away.
“i’ll take off the leash, but the collar stays,” he said flatly, not allowing any room for negotiation. Red unclipped the leash and let the delicate gold chain drop to the floor. He wore no clothing to remove, so he stood before Grillby, naked and willing, a dream come true for the fire elemental… almost. The collar still irked him, but Grillby took what he could get. If he played his proverbial cards right and Red chose him, he’d be setting that leather and gold atrocity aflame soon enough.
Grillby’s purple flames crackled in a mixture of anticipation and poorly concealed ire at the ludicrous rules. Slowly, he unbuttoned his shirt and let it fall onto the polished marble next to Red’s leash, partially covering the symbol of Edge’s ownership with a rippling pool of expensive silk. Next he removed his belt, taking his time with his pants, unfastening them at long last to reveal a thick cock covered in vibrant, undulating flames. Red flushed unexpectedly as the purple light from Grillby’s glowing shaft played across his ivory bones.
Toeing off his shoes to complete undressing, Grillby cast aside his pants and did a quick twirl, more for Edge’s benefit than Red’s. The stocky skeleton had seen the fire elemental naked before, the one and only time they’d had sex. That very same night, Red had slipped away under the cover of darkness, not sure which he feared more- learning that the impassioned sex was simply a casual hook-up for stress relief or allowing true emotions and genuine affection to bloom in the violence and deprivation of the Underground with no sunlight to nourish it.
The fire elemental reclined his well-proportioned body on the dias, not quite daring to take up temporary residence on the throne with the giant lamia coiled around it. Grillby doubted that Edge would uphold his end of the agreement if he fucked Red right on top of him.
“Come,” Grillby invited Red, patting the gleaming marble next to him.
“pfft, i got more stamina than that!” joked Red, but he seated himself next to Grillby, close enough to invite contact without instigating it. The flames of Grillby’s body warmed the frigid stones pleasantly causing the reflective surface to glimmer. If not for Red’s flippant attitude and the threat of two blazing eyelights hanging overhead, the setting might have been romantic.
Grillby didn’t waste any more time with words. His hand snaked out, a single finger trailing down Red’s sternum, featherlight and fever hot. Red magic, the same color as the maraschino cherries that Grillby used for cocktails in his bar, swirled in his pelvis, waiting for Red to manifest it into flesh with a hesitancy that had become unfamiliar to Red since he became Edge’s mate. When the lamia approached him with lustful intentions, Red’s magic snapped into the form of a pussy instinctively, responding to Edge’s undeniable dominance. With Grillby, Red had to focus on what he wanted.
Red’s magic coalesced in his pelvic inlet, developing into luscious pussy lips that swept back and up into the curves of a full, round ass. Grillby admired the new additions to Red’s pelvis. Without his impeccable control, he would’ve tackled Red to the floor and fucked him senseless immediately, but Grillby needed to prove to Red that he was the better lover, the better monster, the better mate. A fast and messy romp on the unyielding floor wasn’t going to suffice.
The hand on Red’s sternum meandered off track to caress the underside of his ribs, drawing him closer. Grillby leaned in for a kiss, and Red tipped his head back to accept it. Grillby let his fiery mouth skim Red’s jawline instead of going straight for a kiss, and he was rewarded with a soft little gasp of surprise. With a mate like Edge, Red had surely forgotten what foreplay felt like, and Grillby intended to remind him, one brush of the lips or slip of the tongue or stroke of the hand at a time. He lived for the moment when Edge had to watch Red come fully undone at his hands.
The fire elemental’s mouth found the leather of Red’s collar next, and he belligerently left a small scorch mark on it as he nuzzled it upwards to tease at Red’s neck with his tongue. Red’s lids eclipsed his sockets. The prolonged wait for the kiss made his magic buzz and tingle, and Grillby’s gentle attention lulled him into a blissful haze of desire. Grillby’s hands weren’t idle either; they toured each foramen and process along his spine like eager sightseers, unwilling to bypass a single dip or divet in Red’s bones without thorough exploration and leaving a trail of heat and arousal in their wake.
Red sank into Grillby’s embrace, loving the way the warmth saturated his bones. Finally, the ghost of the fire elemental’s breath haunted Red’s upturned mouth. The skeleton parted his jaws, and Grillby accepted the invitation, delivering a long lingering kiss in which he sought to communicate the depth of his feelings for Red first through the rough movement of his mouth against Red’s, then with the intricate swirling of his tongue against Red’s, and finally with his hands sliding down to the skeleton’s hips to position his body so that he laid back on the dais.
Breaking the kiss with reluctance, Grillby straddled Red’s body, staring down at him with a surprisingly honest expression that Red couldn’t quite place. Humming so softly that the skeleton struggled to separate the vibrations of the sound from the fire elemental’s breathing, Grillby placed kisses, one after another, across Red’s clavicles, then down his sternum, a parody of a religious gesture that meant nothing to the denizens of the Underground but symbolized a sort of worship between the two monsters on the dias nonetheless.
Grillby dipped his head lower, stroking the supple ecto-flesh forming Red’s pubis with his hands while he tenderly nuzzled the skeleton’s inner thighs. The heat pouring from Red’s pussy matched the heat of Grillby’s flames as the fire elemental slowly spread his glistening folds to expose his swollen clit and fluttering entrance. When the fiery tongue found its way past his plump pussy lips and into his tight hole, Red tilted back his head and let out a satisfied sigh.
The bartender from Snowdin never failed to ignite Red’s magic with his touch, and his very bones burned with a desperate need. At the risk of viewing the experience through the scope of a barrage of fire-related puns, Red held an undeniable torch for the fire monster, yet somehow the sexual encounter with Grillby failed to fan the dying ember into a flame, leaving Red missing something despite the pleasure of Grillby’s tongue curling inside of him.
Sensing the fading intensity of his lover’s reactions, Grillby switched from tongue-fucking the skeleton to fingering him slowly. His mouth migrated to Red’s clit, settling over it and beginning to gently suck on it. Red’s back arched and his hips tilted upwards against Grillby’s hand. Grillby’s fingers were long and nimble, and they found all of the sensitive places inside of Red’s pussy that his tongue had toyed with, only this time with the added sensation of the clit stimulation.
Pleasure overwhelmed Red, and his phalanges scrabbled for purchase on the smooth marble beneath him. Pressure built low in his abdomen; he ached for release as he hovered at the precipice of orgasm. Grillby changed his strategy again, letting Red tremble with the tension of being so close. The fire elemental used one thumb to continue to play with Red’s clit while his tongue joined his fingers inside of the skeleton’s deliciously wet pussy. No meal he served in his establishment compared to the taste of drawing an orgasm out of Red with his fingers and tongue.
Flavor exploded in Grillby’s mouth when Red came, and he lapped it up eagerly. The skeleton’s pussy clenched around his fingers and tongue, and the thought of that same tightness squeezing his cock once again tempted Grillby to rush things. He resisted once again as well. If this was truly his last chance to be with Red, he planned to savor every second starting with licking Red clean of his arousal. Once his saliva slickened Red’s folds instead of the skeleton’s own fluids, Grillby stuck his fingers into his mouth, sucking the same tangy stains from his flaming digits, not letting a drop go to waste.
Red’s eyelights pleaded for more, and Grillby would not deny the object of his affection for a moment longer. Breathing harshly, the fire elemental lined himself up with the skeleton’s trembling pussy, rubbing himself up and down the glistening slit to get lubricated. Red moaned, low and loud, coaxing fat drops of pre-cum from Grillby’s cock with only that single sound. No more waiting. With a groan, Grillby sank into the welcoming embrace of Red’s pussy.
Grillby moved slowly, deliberately, letting every inch of his cock stretch Red’s hole as it filled him. Red cried out at the maddeningly languid pace set by the fire elemental. The drag of Grillby’s thick shaft, the way it caught on his entrance as it slid inside of him, so gradual, so controlled, drove him insane with lust.
Red wanted to be utterly destroyed. Red wanted it hard and rough, not soft and careful. Red wanted his face shoved into the floor while his pussy was railed until his throat became raw from his empassioned screams. Instead, Grillby made tender love to him, the steady, unhurried rhythm of his hips at odds with the fervor that consumed his SOUL.
Moans mingled between sharpened teeth and fiery lips only to be swallowed into silence when Grillby and Red’s mouths met. During the confusion of tongues and hot breath, the fire elemental’s hands found his lover’s, and their fingers, purple fire and pale bone, intertwined. Grillby’s powerful thrusts gained speed, rocking Red’s smaller body beneath him.
The fire elemental’s hips stuttered to a halt, slamming into the willing body of his lover with fierce finality as orgasm swept over both of them. Red’s body stiffened, and stars exploded behind his sockets. He gave in to the soothing waves of euphoria, closing his sockets and letting his greedy cunt tighten around Grillby’s cock again and again, milking the searing cum from his flaming lover.
As Grillby’s hot magic pumped into his pussy and the first blinding rush of orgasm faded, Red came to a stark realization. He didn’t love Grillby, and he never had. His relationship with Grillby had never extended past friendship and one desperate hookup to chase away some of the loneliness of his life in Snowdin. Sleeping with Grillby now and subjecting him to a glimmer of hope that would never truly materialize was unfair. He owed Grillby honesty at least, especially considering that he had little else to offer. There is no consolation prize for unrequited love.
How do you tell someone who is willing to give up everything for you that you don’t harbor the same feelings? How could Red explain that Grillby’s saccharine affection was just another rut to fall into, just more motions to go through while the oppressive nature of their lives continued to crush them while they waited for a merciful blow to speed the act of falling down? Grillby’s love followed the same desolate path that Red sought to escape, a path that eventually led to dark, endless emptiness no matter how hard he fought. Falling from a greater height causes a more painful landing.
Red decided to be straightforward. Explanations wouldn’t soften the blow.
“I can give you everything you ever dreamed of,” Grillby murmured against the side of Red’s skull, oblivious to his thoughts.
Grillby had no idea what Red dreamed of. If Red chose Grillby, they would live two miserable lives, together but somehow also separate, and always aware of the gap that existed with no possible way to bridge it.
“I choose Edge.”
The words sounded strange coming from Red while another monster’s cum dribbled from his still-throbbing pussy, but they also rang true. Edge’s savage vitality breathed life into Red like nothing else in the entire Underground. The huge lamia’s protective and possessive nature left Red feeling both valuable and secure, like he belonged in this world, like he mattered to it... and when they fucked? Edge’s hunger for Red was palpable, visceral, inexorable, and insatiable.
The lamia in question’s entire thick body encircled Red, separating him from Grillby and obscuring him from the fire elemental’s vision. Edge flipped Grillby’s clothes to him with the tip of his tail, a clear and callous dismissal.
“YOU HEARD HIM,” hissed Edge impatiently as Grillby quickly and wordlessly dressed himself. “NOW GET OUT OF MY PALACE BEFORE I EXTINGUISSSH YOU WITH MY PISSSSS.” Grillby obeyed without protest, numb to the threat, Red’s words tumbling around in his head and refusing to make sense.
As soon as the door closed behind the forlorn fire monster, Edge retrieved the slim gold chain from the floor and clipped it onto Red’s collar. The lamia then used the newly refastened leash to pull his mate close.
“YOU ARE MINE, AND I WILL NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO TAKE YOU FROM ME,” Edge rumbled, and his words reverberated through Red’s bones and down to his very SOUL.
This was as close to a declaration of love as the lamia would get, but Red had become well-versed in interpreting Edge’s often gruff statements. Red had not missed the brief flash of fear in Edge’s eyelights, despite how quickly Edge’s usual arrogance replaced it. Sometimes even the King needed some reassurance of his place in the world.
Tiny skeleton faces peered around the archway leading into the Throne Room. The presence of the children prevented Edge from reclaiming his mate then and there, but they also served as a reminder of the one final thing that Edge and Red provided for each other- a future to look forward to.
“i love you too,” replied Red, and Edge made no comment about his mate’s translation of his words except for holding him a little tighter.
---------- (The song used here is Almost Lover by a Fine Frenzy) ----------
And when you left, you kissed my lips You told me you would never never forget These images
Grillby stumbled out of the Palace and into the streets of the Capitol, sunglasses-shielded eyes unseeing. Other monsters moved aside to let him pass, assuming him to be drunk or possibly injured. Nobody asked, though Grillby couldn’t have formed the wrenching pain in his SOUL into sensical words anyway. He barely grasped what happened, his mind refusing to accept the reality of losing Red, not to death and dust, but by his choice, to another monster.
Well, I’d never want to see you unhappy I thought you’d want the same for me
The fire elemental hunched his shoulders as the scenery changed from the Capitol to Hotland to Waterfall, unnoticed. He struggled to process the possibilities of the future. Red’s choice to be with Edge wasn’t something he could fight. If he killed Edge, Red would never forgive him. No amount of begging or coercing would change Red’s mind, and honestly, Grillby wanted the skeleton to find happiness, even if it meant letting him go. Unfortunately, letting him go left Grillby with nothing.
Goodbye, my almost lover Goodbye, my hopeless dream
Grillby ignored the blasting snow flurries that announced his arrival in Snowdin. The fluffy snowflakes that rode upon the back of the frigid, blasting winds sizzled in his purple flames, but more than steam rose in their wake. Little grey flakes like ash drifted upwards to mingle with the pristine white snowflakes the same way that the dancing light of Grillby’s flames had mingled with the pale ivory of Red’s bones in the Throne Room.
Goodbye, my luckless romance My back is turned on you Should’ve known you’d bring me heartache Almost lovers always do
Grillby’s feet knew the way back to his bar and restaurant, but the fire elemental himself was lost, unable to move forward mentally and therefore also physically. He stood in the blizzard swirling at the entrance to the town of Snowdin and blinked as if waking from a dream. He had no choice but to accept that Red was gone, forever out of the reach of his aching heart, and nothing else really mattered to him beyond that.
I cannot wake up in the morning Without you on my mind That’s what it came down to. Nothing else mattered to him without Red. But now you’re gone and I’m haunted And I bet you are just fine Did I make it that easy To walk right in and out of my life?
Grillby continued to stand, flaming yet frozen as the wind gathered up his dust and scattered it across Snowdin, indistinguishable from the ever-present ground cover of snow…
Should’ve known you’d bring me heartache Almost lovers always do
… until nothing remained but memories.

Leopardfoot AU Post #2 Electric Boogaloo
Since my post yesterday got a lot of likes, here is part 2 of it with more info.
Tiny is taken in by Thunderclan after Leopardfoot and Tigerpaw find him. Leopardfoot becomes his foster mum until he is an apprentice, which is when Sunstar takes up his training. Despite initial dislike for the newly named Whitepaw, due to what his father did, Tigerstripe eventually warms up and becomes a great friend of Whitefoot in the future
Leopardfoot is visited by Doestar the night after she is given Tigerpaw. Ofc, Doestar gives her the message she gave Pinestar and as you can imagine, Leopardfoot ain’t having it, telling Doestar and even Starclan to go screw themselves and she trains young Tigerpaw in a way that his prophecy still doesn’t happen
During one of their training sessions, Leopardfoot accidentally claws Tigerpaw, causing him to have that cut in his ear. Leopardfoot is horrorfied at what she did and begins to question if she is the right mentor for Tigerpaw. Before she heads to Sunstar, Bluefur spots her and stops her, telling her that she is Tigerpaw’s mentor and one mistake does not mean he’ll be scared. Tigerpaw understands that it was an accident and so Leopardfoot decides to continue mentoring him.
Thistleclaw continues to try to get close to Tigerpaw, but Leopardfoot keeps on hissing at him whenever he tries it, so he takes Tigerpaw to be trained in the Dark Forest. But when Thistleclaw reveals what they’re doing, Tigerpaw is ”Fuck this shit, I’m out!” and leaves, causing Thistleclaw to howl with rage and irritation at the stubborness of this one cat.
Tigerpaw tells Leopardfoot about what Thistleclaw and Leopard decides to tell Thistleclaw about her vision and the prophecy Goosefeather had told her. Tigerpaw is initially horrified at this news. After all, Thistleclaw was basically his foster dad. He hardens however and decides to oppose any idea Thistleclaw has no matter what.
At Tigerpaw’s First gathering, he meets an ambitious dark brown tabby tom from Shadowclan named Brokenpaw. While initially interested in what that cat has to say, he eventually leaves him when Brokenpaw is talking about his plan to seize power by any means necessary, due to his mother teaching him to avoid power and not actively seek it out.
Sometime after the Gathering, Leopardfoot is able to find Jake on a lone hunting patrol. Jake asks who she is, complimenting her on her radiant beauty. Leopard raises a brow at him in confusion and tells him her name before asking what his name is. Jake is stunned to hear the name Leopard and says “Pine will be ecstatic to hear this news!” Leopardfoot thinks it’s an odd name for a kittypet before realizing who Pine really is. She demands Jake take her to where he is, anger and fire in her eyes, and Jake agrees to take her. They reach Pine’s home and Jake says bye to her. Leopardfoot initially thinks about letting Pine have it but decides it wouldn’t be fair unless she brought Tigerpaw along as well, so Pine could see how much he hurt both of them.
The next day, the two had to the Fence and confront Pine and they let him have it! Leopardfoot tells him about the pain of raising a single kit without her mate after two other kits of her died from the same litter, how the clan stares at her in pity and curiosity, wondering if she’ll do the same thing Pinestar did, how Leopardfoot had to raise Tigerkit through her depressive state all alone with practically no support other than her son and then, quietly, she growls in his ear “and how dare you leave us because of a stupid prophecy from Starclan!” Then she growls about how he got what he wanted and hopes it was worth it.
Pine is about to respond, tear streaming down his face and the most apologetic and heartbroken look on his face ever but Tigerpaw interrupts him, talking about how hard it is for him to grow up in a clan that sees him as nothing more than a future kittypet, talking about how badly his life has been. Each statement sending the dagger into Pine’s heart much deeper until finally he breaks down and begs for forgiveness, saying he knows he did wrong and would do anything to change it, but Leopardfoot decides to let him wallow in his sorrow, too pissed at him to accept any apology from her coward of a former mate. Tigerpaw agrees and they both leave Pine, forcing him to look at what he did and cry about it on his lonesome.
A moon later, Leopardfoot, Tigerpaw, Thistleclaw, and Bluefur, are patrolling the Border near Twolegplace, when they’re suddenly attacked by a Shadowclan patrol. A few cats has Leopardfoot pinned and is about to seriously hurt her when a reddish-brown blur knocks into one of them, causing the cat to flee. The blur turns out to be Pine who fights the Shadowclan cats off as Tigerpaw battles his way to them.
Eventually, the Shadowclan cats are stopped and run and the TC patrol is about to celebrate until they look at Pine, who is bleeding profusely with scratches criss-crossing his pelt. He simply says to Leopardfoot “I know what I did can never be forgiven...but I hope you’ll remember me, love.” before passing on. Leopardfoot and Tigerpaw looks at his dead body and don’t know what to say, allowing Bluefur to say “Maybe he wasn’t such a coward after all...” The patrol nods in agreement with her and bury him his grave before leaving.
Leopardfoot and Tigerpaw constantly play with one another in private to keep up that familial bond. Whitepaw(Storm) is able to see one of these sessions and is stunned to see the two being so happy with one another, with the two chasing one another and playing tag and whenever Leopard captures her son, she gives him a tickle torture, causing Tigerpaw to squeal with laughter.
After this play session ends, White talks to Tiger about it, who is embarrassed and begs White to not tell anyone. He says he’ll think about it, on the condition that he is able to join one of them. Tigerpaw reluctantly agrees and brings Whitepaw along to his next play session. It’s a really great time between the biological and foster family.
When Tigerpaw gets his warrior name, it is the proudest day of his and Leopardfoot’s life. Doestar hisses in Leopardfoot’s ear “What have you done?!” but she ignores the Starclan cat, instead being proud of her boy.
When Tawnyspots retires, The clan is split into three camps for the next deputy, The more aggressive cats favor Thistleclaw, the much softer cats favor Bluefur, and the cats who are a mix of both but don’t want either favor Leopardfoot.
Initially, it looks like Bluefur may be Sunstar’s choice but she rejects the idea of being deputy after realizing that there will be plenty of cats skeptical of her and won’t support her if she does,so she instead endorses Leopardfoot, who does indeed become Deputy, to the chagrin of Thistleclaw.
From there forward, Apprentices from every clan call her the “Hottest Clan Deputy” as a running joke, though Thunderclan apprentices get smacked upside the head if they dare say it out loud near her. When she hears other clan apprentices say it, she rolls her eyes and ignores them, knowing it’s a simple apprentice game that they’ll soon grow out of.
When Leopardfoot becomes Pregnant, Tigerstripe almost attacks Thistle out of rage for using his mother but Blue, Whitestorm, Whitefoot, Sunstar, Honeyclaw, and Leopardfoot talk him out of it. Still, he makes Thistleclaw have a living hell for a while, as Tiger is overprotective of his mother.
When Leopard’s second litter is born, Tiger is proud to be their older brother and takes up the role with pleasure.
While Leopardfoot is in the nursery caring for her second litter, she and Sunstar grow quite close, as they do small hunting patrols and avoid border patrols. As the kits become weaned, the two get even closer as they play in a field near Thunderclan camp where Sunstar talks about everything in his life and Leopardfoot says that she thought she would never find happiness again. The two admit their feelings for one another then and there but a few weeks later, Sunstar loses his final life due to green cough.
With her second litter now apprentices, Leopardfoot heads to the Moonstone and receives her nine lives, becoming Leopardstar.
She initially thinks about making White Eye her deputy but the she-cat refuses the position, thus Bluefur is chosen.
Just because she’s leader doesn’t mean she’ll not partake in gossip though and she gossips a lot with Honeyclaw, who has a lot of dirt on her son, especially on his motion of the ocean ;)
Leopardstar constantly teases her son about this which embarrasses him to no end. He confronts Honeyclaw as to why she told his mother all that and how he’ll never forgive her. Honeyclaw says that he will, which causes Tigerstripe to question as to how come. Honeycaw simply brushes her tail around his neck, bat her eyes, and say “Because you love me.” which causes Tiger to get flustered, making Honey laugh heartily.
Rusty still arrives in Thunderclan but with a new prophecy. “Fire will sweep our clan”. She gives Firepaw to Thistleclaw after a short and successful with the cocky Runningfang(wind), the former apprentice of Redfang(tail), who was the apprentice of Thistle.
Thistle brutally trains Firepaw and turns him into a fierce warrior with little to no morals in achieving his goals. Firepaw is named Firefang.
Thistle winds up dead and it is revealed that Redfang, Runningfang, and Firefang all killed him so no one could get in their way.
Firefang and his followers, along with a very hostile Brackenclaw(fur) who was trained under Firefang, and Sandstorm, leave Thunderclan after Fire attempts a coup, a few moons after Bluefur’s death in a battle against Riverclan. Tigerstripe was appointed as the deputy after her. Firestar’s deputy is Redfang, who refuses to take up the star name if Firestar dies.
Upon becoming deputy, Leopardstar decides to tell Tigerstripe of the destiny he was supposed to have and how it has changed. Tigerstripe is initially shocked at the news that Starclan dare try and have him killed because of an uncertain future. Leopardstar then says “However, you proved them wrong, Tigey. You always prove everyone wrong.” Tiger smiles widely at her and replies with “Because of you.” and the to hug it out, as mother and son.
An alternative bloodclan arrives in the forest and nearly takes over after killing Firestar of Shadowclan, who aligned with Windclan to form Waterclan, while the two Leopardstar’s merged their clans to form Waterclan, a jab at Fireclan’s name. Firestar dies nine times and all of his followers, except Sandstorm, are killed in the battle. Applefur becomes the next leader of Shadowclan and makes Tangleburr her deputy.
Thunderclan’s Leopardstar survives the battle as well as Riverclan’s while Deadfoot and Tallstar are also killed in the battle, replaced by Onewhisker and Mudstar respectfully.
Thunderclan’s Leopardstar survives to a moon or two after the clans have settled down at the lake, thanking everyone for her wonderful life and wishing Tigerstripe the best of luck in his leadership.
Tigerstripe and Honeyclaw’s third litter has a single black tabby she-kit, who is named Leopardkit in honor of Thunderclan’s most important leader.
Tigerstripe heads to the moonstone and gets his nine lives from Leopardstar, Pine, Bluefur, Whitefoot (who died in the battle against the alt bloodclan), Mistkit, Nightkit, Doestar (who congratulates Tiger on going against his former destiny and creating a new one),Lionheart (who was killed by Firefang in a desperate bid to get closer to power), and Goosefeather.
The Newly christened Tigerstar returns to Thunderclan, appointing Whitestorm as his deputy and declaring that Thunderclan will continue the progress made by Leopardstar as they go to the future under him.
This is all I got now. What do ya’ll think? (Likes, Reblogs, and Comments appreciated)

audrey x 🔥 & georgie x 🐀!!!
!!! THANK YOU!!! 💕💕💕 i missed talking about g & rat man in particular :(
also this is the ask meme..
GEORGIE/🐀
IMHO (in my hoe opinion).. Georgie is really not someone to have a low self-esteem cause she was the hottest bitch in the distillery district but in a weird way she feels like she has to live up Jess somehow. She never knew her personally of course and in the end the end she only really sees her as he public image instead of the person she really was.. 🐀 obviously still loves her very much which makes Georgie feel super jealous and also stupid bc she feels so inferior compared to her. plus she’s got a lot of respect for her at the same time so!!!
hjfjh STUPID but during the game’s events they actually become friends… She’d probably be a really annoying npc who sends him on a really bad mission for a lousy reward but somehow he sticks around her clinic for some time and she keeps talking.. he’s a quiet guy but actually enjoys hearing what she has to say and they end up bonding over the “got blamed for a coup” experience (G was too young to really remember her life before but she still feels the impact it had on her family ). 🐀 stops by her clinic from time to time whenever he’s near because she gives him a discount on elixir and because he likes her i guess. In a platonic way of course
They both pretend nothing’s going on between them and keep it hush hush (yknow ~~secret meetings in some secluded corner in that palace or something.. 19th century forbidden romance aesthetique) even though no one cares!!!!! I guess technically Georgie is above his status and has a title and all that but none of the other nobles really care about her & they all know anyway so
Their first kiss was WEIRD and awkward as hell.. He probably came to her to get a tiny scratch or something treated.. as an excuse to see her and SOMEHOW that happened i guess & she felt really embarrassed after that for some reason so she was like “😳 please leave now”..
🐀: “ok :(”
She falls a lot faster than him but never acts on it out of pride and also respect for Jess.. she never really felt that way for anyone & is really embarrassed about it (not about having feelings in general she’s not a closed off person.. just being in love and all that). 🐀 on the other hand just viewed her as a friend for a long time and I GUESS he really liked her but with J********’s death being so recent it’s just too early to pursue anything so… slow burn 50k words. Nothing really happens until like… a year or two post-game.. they just hang around at the boyle party and talk shit about the other guests as FRIENDS
AUDREY/🔥
jfdj that ~first meeting~ is so funny to me, she thot f*llows ch*lk was messing with her when he told her who she’s gonna meet.. she’s just like “haha.. funny that you’re asking me for help 🙂 kind of ironic 🙂🙂🙂”.. J: “???? do i know u????”.. so yeah needless to say she avoids his ass at the beginning bc she sort of hates him (which is mutual). and also because he creeps her out.. until uhhhh *deep ass conversation about whatever but it’s CRINGE so I cant say more*
domesticity is NOT something she’s used to anymore when [REDACTED] so she just leaves home from time to time to idk.. explore the surroundings, get some useless job done, etc… Not that she has commitment issues she just likes to see different places sometimes…. ****** just has to accept that i guess 😤😤😤 HOWEVER she also likes having a place she can always return to.. feels nice
she feels.. kind of stupid for developing any sort of feelings for him that aren’t negative, much less anything romantic, she’s hated that guy all her life & it’s so weird how it is now, but there’s a connection whether she likes it or not. She’s not someone who gets easily flustered & is definitely not shy.. she’s usually the one who initiates things but it’s so embarrassing for her at first 🤡 Audrey when they’re like. just talking: EVERYONE look away.. mind your own business!! >:(
I GUESS…. he developed feewings muuuuch earlier than her, mainly bc the “I got receipts of ur war crimes” sort of barrier (????? for lack of a better description) that she has doesn’t exist & she’s much more likable as a person…. she’s stubborn & kind of annoying bc she glares at him like this 😒 but wants to do right and is a good person not for the sake of using it as a bad excuse for revenge or anything but because.. that’s just who she is in contrast to his fake ~change of heart uwu~. which is not really welcome, he’s too old to have a silly crush on a woman who sings out loud to any nancy sinatra song that happens to be on the radio. Not that he ever acts on it anyway
I can’t think of a fifth one sorry

so here’s that thing from my drafts i was talking about earlier.  i didn’t read it over or anything so it probably doesn’t make any sense, but SHRUG EMOJI.  @nekosd43 @epersonae @siobhanrobotnik
i’ve been thinking kind of obsessively about a taagnitz royalty au idea i had the other day.  celeste and i were talking about starting a new rp and throwing ideas around and i randomly said, “taako is a prince and magnus is a stable boy!” just as a generic idea, but then.  THEN.  i started to think about it.  and i added kravitz, which made it at least 50% better.
there’s an elven nation called the felicity wilds ruled by a set of twins from the animus clan (edward & lydia).  in this nation, twins are considered royalty because they tend to only show up in families because, i don’t know, elven genetics or something.  there are also other races living there, primarily humans and half elves.
there were probably seven royal houses at some point, but elves live a long time and have a lot of time to murder each other, so we’re gonna say only one house/clan remains in power.  the other families have died out or scattered.  sometimes people claim to be from one of the clans, but it’s usually just bullshit.
taako and lup were definitely from one of those clans, probably disgraced or something a long time ago, or maybe it’s sort of a “hide your royal babies who are gonna get murdered in this coup d’etat” situation.  either way, they were raised in a human orphanage at the very edge of the country for a long time without the knowledge that twins are royalty, etc.  at some point, someone figures out who they are, and they find out they’re part of the phoenix clan.  the current leaders aren’t the most popular monarchs and so it’s easy for them to get political support, and they’re not planning on taking over anyway.  at least not right now.
anyway, they get some like...off brand royal titles like duke and duchess or something.  no actual political power, but good for popularity.  they both think it’s dumb as shit, but they enjoy having things for basically the first time in their lives.  they get to go to wizard college and stuff.
meanwhile, the next country over is a more human based country, although a lot of dwarves live there too.  this country is actually called shadowfell (based on the raven queen’s actual location according to d&d lore), but due to the fact that most of the industry in the country is excavating and polishing precious gems, residents affectionately call it the crystal kingdom.
shadowfell is also known for its necromancy.  specifically, their good necromancy.  no zombies or skeleton friends here.  their necromancers are generally very respectful of the dead and have an abiding consciousness of the soul and body’s connection to one another.  dark necromancy, like raising undead, or becoming a vampire or a lich?  very frowned upon.  punishable by doing time in the eternal stockade, or even by death.
residing over the nation is the raven queen, the ‘raven’ part being a ceremonial title for whomever wears the crown.  her real name is unknown, but those close to her call her ruby.  her partner is ????, and she has a grown son, kravitz, who is looking to get married.
there are maybe some border disputes or a trade agreement that could be beneficial to both countries, something like that, and also the shadowfell royal family isn’t opposed to having some magic mixed in with it.  i guess they’d also have to be cool with like a half elf in there too.  idk it’s possible necromancers have longer lifespans than regular humans/dwarves/whatever because of their close connection with death itself, so half elven lifespan is pretty average to them.  the POINT was that edward and lydia known an opportunity when they see one and decide to foist their problem twins off onto the crystal kingdom.
i think it’s lup that they send with the intention of marrying her off to kravitz.  i don’t want to say there aren’t magical or just scientific means for trans women to have babies in this world, but i do rather like the idea that it’s kind of a ‘fuck you’ to kravitz & co. when they know that heirs are important.  if you want to get into skeevy bullshit, maybe edward was courting taako and taako was like “no thx bye” and he figures he might have a better shot with taako if lup is gone away.
taako absolutely travels with lup, as does lup’s handmaiden, lucretia, who is also secret girlfriend.  and they arrive at the palace and, oh no he’s hot.  taako gets a crush on kravitz literally immediately, and kravitz, bless his little gay heart, can’t even see lup.
but lup is the one who is supposed to be courting kravitz, and taako is here for emotional support or whatever.  kravitz wants to do what’s best for his country, even if it means marrying a woman, so he spends a lot of time with lup, who isn’t really particularly interested.  he’s nice?  he’s definitely not really into her, and she’s definitely not really into arranged marriage or whatever.  she’s probably not into this entire trip, but that’s not really kravitz’ fault.
so taako is bored as fuck, but he likes horses and this country has a lot of open places and nature to explore.  so he ends up going down to the stables and borrowing a horse almost every day.  and he gets to know the guy in charge of the stables, who is of course magnus.  they sort of bond over stupid jokes about horse dicks and their shared love of nature and horses.  romance happens, because that’s what this dumb story is about.
meanwhile, lup has met one of the more dubious members of the shadowfell court, a necromancer named barry whose family had gotten into some Bad Necromancy Shit when he was small and had gotten removed from their place in the shadowfell nobility.  barry is working on making up for what his ancestors did and was begrudgingly allowed to return, if only because he’s a brilliant scientist who has made great advancements in the field.
lup and barry hit it off instantly.  and since we’re doing ot3s here, in this house, lucretia is cool with lup being poly, and lup has lucretia’s blessing to pursue this bluejean-clad nerd.
thing is, kravitz and taako also have this mutual flirtation thing going on whenever they happen to meet, and it’s very clear to pretty much everyone that they’re into each other.  taako, however, is dating magnus at this point, so he kind of tries to keep his distance.
but since lup and kravitz aren’t into each other, someone at some point makes the suggestion that taako marry kravitz instead, which would solve all the border disputes or whatever was the issue, and that would also keep taako from having to go back home to be courted with by edward, which he Does Not Want, so it’s Hard.  they don’t get to stay here if no one is marrying kravitz, after all.
but taako has a boyfriend!!!  but staying here would solve a lot of his problems and he doesn’t want to go home!!! but it’s hard!!!
and then lup is like, hey dude you know i have a boyfriend AND a girlfriend right, maybe you could, like, you know, do that too.  and taako is like wow what a great idea let me go talk to all my boyfriends and make sure they’re all right with this.  except probably with more worrying about everything for drama or something, man, i dunno.
anyway, then he marries kravitz and continues dating magnus, and lup marries barry and/or lucretia, and everyone is happy.  and they adopt angus and he can be the next king after kravitz.  man, i dunno.
also, i tihnk merle is one of kravitz’ advisors for some reason, even though he is down an arm and it’s pretty much kravitz’ fault (don’t ask me how yet i don’t know).  davenport’s from felicity wilds and traveled with taako and lup.  i don’t know his job title exactly.  maybe he’s kind of a “””handler.”””  they call him dad because they know he hates it.

Alexei Blue
( lee hyun jae, 26, cis male ) Word around the quadrant is that ( ALEXEI ‘ALEX’ BLUE ) is originally from (PHIUS), but have been on the terminus for (FIVE MONTHS). If you’re in a pinch, he’s a talented (FISCAL MANAGER). Is that why he’s the/a (TREASURER)? Anyway, everyone says he’s (+INTELLIGENT) and (+METICULOUS), but don’t get on his bad side because he’s (-RECALCITRANT) and (-UNFORGIVING).  Oh shoot, don’t look now! He has his (TASER) out!(ooc: snooze, 18, pst, she/her, none)
WORLD BUILDING:
—-> Name: Haver City, Pytheria
—-> Located On: Phius, Bovian Cluster
—-> Brief Description:
Phius is a small, isolated planet, established when a small group of explorers was stranded in space. They fell in love with the place and decided to stay.
The planet is self-sufficient for the most part and is relatively closed off to outsiders.
Within Phius there are multiple kingdoms scattered around the area. Most of them live harmoniously together and have trade relations. The kingdoms of Pytheria, Yara, Leth face problems from pirates of the Gromes waters, and these three kingdoms frequently clash due to depletion of natural resources.
The Company is something people talk about but never worry over. Phius is too small to be beneficial in any way to it.
The planet suffers a terrible meteorite strike that leads to a mass exodus of people on the planet. Over three-fourths of the planet’s population perishes in the incident, and half of the survivors don’t make it through the second year post-collision due to changing climate and a dearth of resources. The planet’s orbit is altered and life slowly becomes impossible. The people of Phius leave in droves as a result and never look back.
In any sort of encyclopedia, Phius often is only given a one-word description: Uninhabitable
—-> Name: Selmar Palace City
—-> Located On: Rhee
—-> Brief Description:
Rhee is a planet located near Erebus with highly-urbanized cities. Businesses of all kinds thrive here, and the living conditions on average are considered one of the best in the galaxy, though large gaps between the rich and the poor remain.
Within Rhee there are multiple small states bound together by the Rhee International Trade and Sovereignty Act. Thanks to RITSA, warfare and other large-scale conflicts on Rhee is limited, and except for rebellions from the oppressed, Rhee remains a peaceful planet.
Rhee has close ties with Erebus.
Selmar Palace City is famous for being the Hedonist’s Heaven. Gambling, drugs, sex, underground fighting rings, food — you name it. If you can think of anything that brings you pleasure, Selmar has it, no matter how simple or deranged it is.
ROLE DEVELOPMENT:
—-> Important History:
Although the decay of Phius is unknown, it is part of a larger event called the Raining Deaths, which is a term used to describe the numerous massive meteorite collisions in the Bovian Cluster due to the explosion of the largest star in the Cluster, Jestan. The explosion occurs because a different planet was trying to harvest energy from it and experienced a technological failure.
Brief history of Alexei: (tw extreme violence)
Alexei is the third prince of the Pytherian royal family. When he was seventeen, a coup occurred unexpectedly. His mother and elder sister died in the conflict. The heir, his eldest brother, was publicly executed — first he had his throat slit in a gruesome manner, then he was decapitated. Alexei witnessed this public execution.
A close advisor to the family advised him to leave the planet, as he’s next in line and his enemies will be looking for him. Alexei left to a neighboring planet and for six months he tried to find allies to help him take back his kingdom and avenge his family. However, his plan never came to fruition, as Phius became a victim of the Raining Deaths event.
Alexei returned to help his people as much as he could, though he had to work in secret for a few years. At one point there was nothing else he could do, so when the last willing Pytherians departed (some wanted to stay even if it meant death), he also left the planet.
Alexei travelled with the family advisor for a while until they parted ways. Then, Alexei found his way to Selmar Palace City and stayed there for five years trying to forget what had happened to him and his family. During this time he adopted the last name ‘Blue’ and no longer considered himself a prince.
He finally got his shit together after five years and applied to be a bounty hunter in the Company.
—-> Headcanons:
Alexei carries with him an incredible amount of guilt, which manifests in many aspects of his personality. For example, for the longest time he thought that he didn’t deserve happiness, so he pushed people away and was generally a dick to everyone. He’s better now than he used to be, but antagonizing others has become a bit of a habit by now. A character arc I’d be interested in playing is how Alexei grows to be less thorny as he spends more time with the crew.
Alexei dislikes violence, not because of some moral reasons but because most of the time it reminds him of the coup. He especially hates anything to do with knives and cuts. It’s interesting that he decides to be a bounty hunter despite this inherent incompatibility, but he’s made peace with it as much as he could. He chose to be a bounty hunter to travel around more and potentially reconnect with some Pytherian refugees — plus, the job pays well and provides plenty of distractions whenever he feels down.
—-> Key Relationships:
Reluctantly, I Shake Your Hand: This person isn’t fazed at all by any of his jibes and insults. They seem to be the only one who could stand him and has a no-nonsense attitude that makes him just a little ashamed of his behavior.
You Know Me At My Worst: This person is familiar with Alexei back when Alexei was still on Selmar, and they both ran into each other quite frequently. Now that they’re also on the Terminus, he’s trying to avoid them because they remind him of a past he’s not proud of. The relationship can be romantic or platonic.
—-> Wanted Connections:
Younger Sibling: Alexei assumed that his younger sibling has died in the coup along with his family, but Alexei never saw their body. They don’t have the closest relationship with Alexei.
I’d love to explore how Alexei would act if he finds out a member of his family survives the coup. That would certainly bring up a lot of bad memories and buried emotions.

of galadriel and celeborn
“special thanks to vardasvapors for helping me put off deciding whether to read lotr or the hobbit first”
The very first sentence begins, “There is no part of the history of Middle-earth more full of problems than the story of Galadriel and Celeborn.” There is also no elf more full of problems than Galadriel, so this is fitting. We’re off to a tremendous start! The problems Chris is having, though, are mostly historical inconsistencies.
...And these are the kind of inconsistencies that require a map. Lemme dig one up. All right I’m patching together 3 different maps in my head, this legendarium is Impossible. Originally Tolkien was thinking Celeborn was one of the Teleri who never went west in the first place (although, given that Cuivienen was a long way east of Lorien, he still went a LITTLE west), and had always lived in Lorien--east across both the Blue Mountains and the Misty Mountains from Beleriand. Then Galadriel hiked over two mountain ranges, just for funsies, and met a bunch more elfs there. However, in one of the appendices it says he lived in Lindon, which I think is just on the Beleriand side of the Blue Mountains.
In any case, the reason that she remained in Middle Earth after the big old war with Melkor was that “at the end of the First Age a ban was set upon her return, and she had replied proudly that she had no wish to do so." wow she truly is the greatest of the elves. The ban is because she was “one of the chief actors in the rebellion.” Like, was she? Did she convince a ton of people to come with her, all for the purpose of ruining Feanor’s life? I love her an unimaginable amount. Oh to be fair though “she longed to see the wide unguarded lands and to rule there a realm at her own will.” She has always been kind of into dominating other people?
She really would make a fantastic nemesis for Morgoth; each of them trying to conquer more of the disputed lands and rule over everyone. Risk: Belerian Edition! I was considering her against some other elves who would make fun servants of Melkor, but she would never serve anyone, literally ever. If she got captured by Morgoth and he tried to break her mind she would just blow up his entire castle, killing everyone within half a mile. Is that something she can do? I know Luthien can do that, but Luthien is half-god so I dunno.
Back to the actual text: Chris is talking about Galadriel’s lover, Teleporno (Celeborn in Sindarin). This is the most unfortunate name had by any elf. Teleporno! They invented phone sex so Galadriel could run around far away from him and not get sexually frustrated! Another version of the story says that he lived in Alqualonde and was her first or second cousin. They built a ship together and after the destruction of Alqualonde they set sail by themselves, wanting to escape from the horror of their ruined city, but were Banned anyway. Banned! Banned! You’re all banned! None of you are free from sin! But this version of the story is pretty non-canon since it contradicts a bunch of actual published materials. Tolkien just wanted to make a point about how extremely separate from Feanor she is. Possibly he was being threatened by Galadriel to make this point.
Yet ANOTHER version is that they were still second cousins but they met in Doriath and lived there basically the entire first age, which doesn’t sound very Galadriel to me. Anyway in this version Galadriel and Celeborn hang out in northwestern Middle Earth for a while in the second age and then move to Eregion just west of the Misty Mountains for the purpose of thwarting Sauron. It says she might have chosen that place because she was pals with the dwarves of Khazad-dum (although Celeborn apparently blamed them for what the Nogrod dwarves had done to Doriath, because he was a racist fool). This is cute, I love to imagine that she has travelled all over the world and made friends with many different kinds of people. It’s interesting trying to imagine Galadriel being a guest anywhere except with her kin--she doesn’t like not having power like that. Must one assume that the people she visited were subservient enough to satisfy her pride? Ugh where’s my fanfiction of Galadriel travelling the world and having a personal crisis whenever she has to be humble. She needs to learn to play it like Teru and be The Most Gracious, Not That It’s A Competition. Her perfect etiquette gives her power. I dunno.
She looked upon the Dwarves also with the eye of a commander, seeing in them the finest warriors to pit against the Orcs.
Oh.
Moreover Galadriel was a Noldo, and she had a natural sympathy with their minds and their passionate love of crafts of hand, a sympathy much greater than that found among many of the Eldar: the Dwarves were "the Children of Aulë," and Galadriel, like others of the Noldor, had been a pupil of Aulë and Yavanna in Valinor.
Mm... okay.
Now we hear about Celebrimbor, who lived in Eregion with our heroes. He LOVED crafting so so so much and he was dating a dwarf (Narvi), really ahead of the times. They basically carved a heart with their initials in it on the west gate of Moria:
I, Narvi, made them. Celebrimbor of Eregion drew these signs.
Cute... It says both kingdoms grew greater together than they would have apart, this is so so good. I’m a little concerned though, why they ever left...
Ah! It’s because Sauron taught a bunch of Eregion elves The Deep Craft Lore and convinced them to stage a coup against Galadriel’s family. She took her kids Amroth and Celebrian through Moria (to the other side of the mountains I think?) but Celeborn was too racist and stayed in Eregion. Because he wasn’t a threat and no-one cared about him. So Sauron hung out convincing the masonic smiths guild of Eregion to make him rings of power, and when Celebrimbor found out that it was actually for BAD REASONS he was SHOCKED and went to Galadriel for advice.
She told him to hide the three elven rings, and he gave her one, the water ring. It made her gay for the sea though, so she was a little sad. This was a Curse I guess. Oh shit this next part is good! Sauron makes war on Eregion, and although Gil-Galad sends Elrond to aid them they don’t quite get there in time; Celebrimbor makes a Famous Last Stand on the steps of the smiths guild that’s about to be ransacked for its magical treasure. He was probably expecting to die, but instead he is taken captive and tortured to find out where the seven rings and the three rings are. Then, disappointingly, Sauron puts him to death. This isn’t like in my fanfictions. WOW he does, uh, use Celebrimbor’s mutilated body as his standard while fighting Elrond’s forces though. Hell of a thing.
Elrond’s people withdrew to Imladris; the Lorinand elves and their dwarvish allies withdrew through Moria, which meant Sauron had a grudge against the Moria dwarves Forever. He’s so petty. Anyway then he marches to the coast to fuck with Gil-Galad’s fortress at Lindon. Blah blah war murders and the Numenoreans come to kick Sauron’s ass. The siege of Imladris is broken, Sauron retreats to Mordor with his tail between his legs. Galadriel, infected by Nenya with the seagays, moves to the coast until circumstances far later force her to return.

RWBY - On Oscar, Ozpin, the White Fang, and Salem’s Inner Circle
Here we go, guys gals and nonbinary pals. The time has come for the final act of RWBY Volume 4. Are you combat ready?
Cause I’m sure as hell not.
Now with the volume coming to an end, we have good ol’ Farmboi heading god-knows-where after a long, haunting, and crucial ultimatum from Ozpin.
[Error: Footage not found.]
Ehh, well, not quite. He just kinda gets up and leaves, lol.
Look, I get it. Oscar’s storyline needed to start at some point. He couldn’t stay in the farm forever while the rest of the plot kept progressing for everyone else at whatever rate that may be.
My problem is that there really isn’t any emotional gravitas in Oscar’s decision to leave the farm.
Consider: Oscar is an ordinary kid in Anima. The farm and his aunt are probably the only life and family he’s ever known. As far as one could assume, he’d never dream he’d ever take part in some Magical Global Conspiracy™ against the Forces of Evil™. Next thing you know, Ozpin swoops in and completely shatters the status quo (I swear to God, Ozpin’s kink is ruining teenagers’ lives, lmao). He makes Oscar question his sanity, his memories, and his own individuality. The only thing we’re ever shown of Ozpin trying to justify this is very weak consolations and vague promises of greatness. There really isn’t much in the way of dynamic between Oscar and Ozpin. Granted, Ozpin has most likely explained things to Oscar off-screen.
But that in itself is also quite problematic.
I understand that there are certain plot points and information that we, the viewers, aren’t supposed to know yet. In a story, there are certain pieces of information whose revelations are much more meaningful when delivered towards a specific character or group of characters.
Take for instance, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. In the novel, Harry encounters a book filled with intimidatingly advanced and much more effective spells and potion-crafting. The only thing he knows about it is that it was written by the titular “Half-Blood Prince”. Harry takes advantage of the contents of the book, and while at first he thinks his use of it is harmless, he eventually learns that the use of a method without having a proper knowledge and understanding behind it proves fatal. The consequences of the book’s misuse haunt him and the reader for the rest of the novel as he wrestles over the mystery of the true identity of the Half-Blood Prince. At the climax of the novel, he is confronted by the Half-Blood Prince, who reveals himself to Harry and the reader in a shocking and thematically appropriate plot twist that satisfies the reader, precisely because no one else within the story possessed the knowledge of the Half-Blood Prince’s identity and more importantly, because Harry, the person who has been obsessing painfully over this information, gets to react to it alongside the reader.
There is absolutely none of that with Oscar and Ozpin.
A lot of us were convinced that Qrow’s poisoning would lead to Team RNJR+Q running into Oscar near the end of the volume. RNJR+Q would provide solid proof of Ozpin’s story, forcing Oscar into action and help him and Team RNJR (and by extension the viewers) understand his role in the fight against Salem. It would have treated us to Oscar wrestling over leaving his life and family behind and RNJR learning more about the circumstances behind Pyrrha’s death, the Fall of Beacon, and Salem’s Faction from Ozpin himself, who must answer for manipulating Pyrrha and keeping Ruby in the dark about her abilities.
There was a lot about Oscar the viewer could have bonded with. He’s ordinary. Unsuspecting. He has a normal family in an aunt with whom he quips. We aren’t introduced to her at all and therefore we don’t feel her neither as an organic character with a clear purpose in the World of Remnant nor as any sort of part of Oscar’s life. She should be a big part, a reason for Oscar to not want to leave, and therefore make it so important and impactful when he chooses to do so.
Oscar left so abruptly. There wasn’t any proper build-up to his decision, nothing that could make the viewer feel emotionally invested in his departure. No “Oh, finally!” or “I can’t believe he’s actually leaving...” or “Now he can take part in the action!”
Moving on, we have Oscar (and Ozpin’s) meeting with Hazel. As he was instructed in the beginning of the Volume, he’s off to meet Sienna Khan, the current leader of the White Fang.
What strikes me so much about Hazel is that he’s someone who’s incredibly composed. He’s enormous and probably crazy strong, but if that’s all he was, no way Salem would have sent him to meet with the leader of the White Fang.
Salem: “And Hazel, I'm sending you to the leader of the White Fang. Adam Taurus has arranged the meeting. The boy continues to prove loyal. Ensure Sienna Khan feels the same.”
It could have been Watts, a man who seems to be incredibly proud of his intelligence and prowess. But instead, Watts was assigned to meet with Salem’s informant at Mistral (quite possibly the Headmaster of Haven or Sanctum, but a point later on in this analysis might refute this). Salem sent Hazel. This most heavily suggests that he is capable of conducting business and reconnaissance rather tactfully. Nevertheless, given that we know that Sienna Khan is meant to be overthrown by splinter members of the White Fang, I’m not sure how Hazel’s presence might factor into all this. Hazel was sent to talk to Sienna Khan, not eliminate them.
This presents quite a few ways this meeting could go down.
Hazel will meet with Adam, who will propose assassinating Khan and taking over the White Fang to secure the loyalty and military manpower of the organization worldwide to Salem’s cause. (How this will affect Blake and Yang warrants a different discussion.) The coup takes place.
Hazel will meet with Sienna Khan as planned, who will comply with Hazel’s demands and further consolidate the relationship between the White Fang and Salem’s Faction. Adam might or might not proceed with the coup.
Hazel will meet with Sienna Khan as planned. Khan will refuse to cooperate with Hazel, prompting a fight. Khan is defeated and might be killed, prompting Adam to formally take over the White Fang for Salem’s cause.
Hazel will meet with Sienna Khan as planned. Khan either submits or stands up to Hazel. Hazel promises to return with an ultimatum. During this time, Adam executes the coup and either continues to serve Salem, or decides to use his newfound political and military power against Salem and the rest of humanity.
Hazel will meet with Sienna Khan. Khan complies. Adam is not involved with the coup. When the coup happens, the White Fang is thrown into disarray, weakening the integrity of Salem’s operation.
Knowing Corsac and Fennec’s familiarity with Ilia and the brothers’ loyalty to Adam, the last scenario is highly unlikely, but not entirely worth ignoring.
Back to Hazel though, there’s a lot of wisdom and perhaps even goodwill within Hazel. He sees Oscar struggling with the ticket dispenser and not only offers help with a rather tender initiative, but also counsels him on confidence and determination before returning to his task.
We’re also treated to something quite interesting: Ozpin’s reaction to Hazel.
When Oscar asks who Hazel is, Ozpin only answers with the cryptic “Someone from my past.”
Here’s the thing. I’ve spent the last couple of days rewatching the volumes. And something I noticed in 4x01 during the meeting of Salem’s Inner Circle, was how not only did Salem refer to Ozpin as “dear Ozpin”, but also how there were two empty seats at the table. Now, I don’t think those belong to Emerald and Mercury. They take their place by Cinder’s side or away from Salem’s Table whenever summoned. They’re not equals, they’re lackeys. Tools to be used at Salem and Cinder’s whim. If they truly were welcome at Salem’s Inner Circle, they’d take the liberty to pull up a chair and scheme alongside the Big Bads™. Now, couple that with Ozpin’s line to Ruby in 1x10.
“Ruby, I’ve made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet.”
Would those mistakes include serving a cause that may have begun noble and became twisted over time?
How much are you willing to bet that one of those seats once belonged to Ozpin?
Okay, yeah, that begs the question “To whom does that other seat belong?” For all we know? If we’re going for “Haven’s-Headmaster-Is-In-Cahoots-With Salem”, then that chair probably belongs to him. However, there’s two points that contradict this.
Haven’s Headmaster would have just taken Ozpin’s seat and was likely inducted after Ozpin left.
If the Headmaster is just an informant, there is no real reason for him to be part of Salem’s Inner Circle.
Well, Ozpin or no Ozpin, Hazel gave a peek to a different moral dimension to Salem’s Inner Circle. I’m convinced that Salem and co. aren’t doing evil things for evil’s sake. They act for reasons they truly believe to be righteous and necessary, otherwise, why would Watts, Hazel, and Cinder ally themselves with an epitome of darkness and destruction such as Salem? There’s always personal reasons, but there’s always a similar goal in mind that has bound them all together. Even Tyrian.
That’s the kind of villain complexity that RWBY both needs and deserves, and I’m glad we’re getting to see that bit by bit in Hazel’s personal layers and Cinder’s disability and recovery.
EDIT:
I thought of another outcome to Hazel’s meeting with Adam. Here’s another way it could go down:
Somehow, some or all members Team RWBY (either reunited or separated) get a hold of information about the meeting or happen to track someone who is attending it. They crash the negotiations, prompting a fight. This is where Blake and Yang have their rematch against Adam (which might or might not be their final encounter against him). The fight ends, Sienna is either rescued by Blake and enlists the help of the White Fang or is somehow left indisposed (death, injury, kidnapping), forcing Blake to step forward as the new interim leader of the White Fang.

Alrighty, not sure when the next season is going to start, but I do know that this bunch of pony is ending with the two-parter “School Raze”.  I… may have been one of those kids who wouldn’t have been sad to see their school razed.
* Cozy Glow is being helpful.  Supposedly. I wouldn’t really be sure all of the dropped letters were for the school.  Or that there wasn’t more.
* That kid’s got more of a rainbow mane than Rainbow Dash.
* Girl’s gunning for Spike’s job.
* I feel ya Yona. Except for the falling through a cloud bit.  Can’t say I’ve come that close to death from heights.
* And this is why you should keep your feet/hooves on the ground!
* Spontaneous magic failure is a good enough reason for a crying fit.  Gonna be a pain to touch up her makeup afterward though without it.
* It seems like jumping the gun to blame Tirek.  I mean, Chrysalis had that throne made of magic-nullifying stone.  Oh sure, her last plan did not impress, but she is still out there.  Or for the same kind of source it could easily be Maud.  Or a new threat.  But it’s probably Tirek, as he’s the one mentioned.
* OK, Spike almost chocking on a letter is kinda horrifying.  Also, if you’re having magic problems, don’t send messages by magic. Lucky that got through at all. Though maybe Celestia sent a pegasus as well just in case.
* See, Starswirl knows to just use a mundane messenger.
* I dunno, it doesn’t really match Tirek’s MO.  I mean, he’d mug one pony at a time, or grab groups, but it was still very targeted. If he could pull this kind of a generalized drain I think he would have.  Unless he just figured it out or something.
* When was Twilight ever in Tartarus?  She was the only princess not to get sent there.  …Oh right, walking Cerberus back to his post.  Never mind, forgot the offscreen occurrence for a second there.
* Eh, Twilight’s justified in a little freak out away from the troops her friends.
* Yeah, Cozy totally just made a power grab here.  I do have to wonder what she did to Starlight after she stayed behind rather than adventuring.
* Smolder was raised in a culture of struggle and dominance.  She’s knows Cozy’s story stinks like the restrooms after a class trip to Taco Bellflower.
* Bug repellent spells would probably be the one of the best things about magic.  Anyway, has Rarity considered using her tail as a flyswatter?
* And the show says that 2 seconds later.  It’s nice when they remember they’re equines.
* “I think we have all the magic we need right here.”  Cue Rainbow’s cloud holding ability failing in 3… 2… 1…
* Nice door to the pits of Hell.  Er, Tartarus.
* How many doors has Pinkie gotten in that way?  Also, not having a key seems like a lack of foresight when you know the normal way of opening the lock is failing.
* It can magically open any door… and just so happens to perfectly match the indentation of this one.
* Alternatively, imagine the “key of unfettered access” looking like a keyblade, because of course that’s what comes to mind when mentioning a magical key that can open any lock these days.
* On one hand, yes, it’s sad that all of these creatures have lost abilities inherit to them.  In the wild that could cause a huge problem for survival.  However, I would remind Spike that they are in Tartarus for a reason.  I mean, assuming that they don’t want to lock up every creature from a species that would strongly imply that these are the dangerous, feral pony-killers.
* Chancellor Neighsay has a point about a foal being left in charge.  Except she wasn’t, but Cozy’s not about to admit that.
* Yeah, I don’t think you can just walk into a facility and declare yourself to be in charge now. Even Cozy has made the pretense of being put into her position temporarily under extreme circumstances by the people entitled to make that decision.
* Yeah, uh, pretty sure Cerberus doesn’t need magic to do his job.
* OK, I did not need to see Tirek do that thing with his tongue.
* Magic goes missing and so Neighsay thinks Twilight is wasting her time trying to fix the problem rather than stomping on other races while she is at her weakest.  Wow. This guy is officially pants-on-head duuuuuuuuumb.
* Further proof this guy has drunk far too much Trump-aid is he actually buys Sandbar’s sudden yet inevitable betrayal of his friends.
* I’m not sure the CMC can actually help here.  They ain’t got power either.  Of course they’re only supposed to cause a distraction, but still.
* So Cozy Glow learned how to drain magic from Tirek, because she bothered to write and ask and he was bored.  You know… I’ll buy it.  Guy’s still probably plotting an escape, and at least he could be assured of revenge by proxy.
* “Empress of Friendship”? Girl… no.  Just, no.  That name is stupid.  So, so stupid.
EPISODE 25 OVER!  EPISODE 26 NOW!
 * Did Twilight just suggest draining the monsters of their remaining magic to power her own for an escape? Don’t turn into a Blood Mage Twilight!  Stay good!  Stay good!
* If all of Equestria’s magic is being sucked up to where Starlight is being held, I wonder what that’ll do to her after this is all fixed.  I mean, I know you shouldn’t consume an energy field larger than yourself, but if there was ever a time to have a bite…
* Yeah, not to disagree with Sandbar, but… I gotta disagree with Sandbar.  There’s no way that idiot wouldn’t think this was just some trick by the monsters.
* “The reign of Princess Twilight is over?”  Yeah, look forward to a long stay in Tartarus after this for an attempted coup.
* Yeah, that was a pathetically short stint as headstallion.  Dude was barely a road bump to Cozy, and all she had to do was point out what a complete failure and traitor he was.  If only it was that easy in real life…
* Shoulda kept charging, Yona.  Impressive that she can pick a lock with a horn that size though.  Wonder where she learned it?  Probably Pinkie’s class.
* Tirek was kinda short-sighted here.  He had no plan beyond getting rid of magic.  Which screws him too, as he’s left frail and powerless.  Unless he has a way of drawing upon the Ether he hasn’t mentioned.
* Fluttershy is about to attempt an Epic Druid feat.  Pinkie meanwhile attempts an Epic Troll feat.
* So, yank out a single artifact and cause the Cataclysm.  Got it, thanks for the safety tip Ocellus.  Guessing this means they have to pull them all out at the same time.
* You know, if there was ever an opportunity to have Twilight undergo a second ascension, that was it.  Also, kinda weird that draining the magic from those creatures made them normal, separate animals.
* Nothing like the stupidity of an angry mob.  Seriously, so many idiots in this finale.
* The Tree just said “no”,
* Well, points to Cozy for trying to salvage the situation with the wrath of an angry alicorn before her.
* Make that 3 angry alicorns, an angry mob of students, the Elemental Harmony squad, the Elemental Harmony Jr. Division, and a whole lot of angry guards.  Oh, and a braindead bigot who happens to have a powerful artifact.
* And so a little girl was shut behind bars in the deepest pit of Tartarus forever.  But chances are that she’s a complete uncurable sociopath anyway?
And that’s the end of the season.  For the finale itself, eh, it was alright, but Neighsay if still aggravating and Cozy only got as far as she did because most ponies apparently love to eat lead paint chips as a snack.  But the actual threat was certainly menacing enough.  I am a little disappointed Neighsay didn’t have to pay for all the crap he’s pulled.  Seriously, dude should have at least lost his job several times over during this season.
And as for the season itself, there were some interesting world building and character episodes in there. But honestly the whole Friendship School idea still hasn’t sold itself to me.  And considering they had an entire season to do that in with the opening and finale focusing on the place and its students, that’s not good. Bringing students together from a wide area and different species?  Sure, sounds interesting.  Having the teachers help out their students with friendship problems and demonstrate how it and teamwork can help you out in an academic setting and outside it as well? Great!  But having an entire school dedicated to friendship is still just the most eye-rolling thing.  They really shouldn’t have tried to push it that far.  It just doesn’t work.  But overall while this hasn’t been my favorite season I still enjoy the show overall and am looking forward to more… whenever they get around to that.

If you take driver's ed, watch a state farm video, and have a G.P.A above 3.0, comes to.... $88 A MONTH!!!! That's with driver's ed, and a G.P.A above 3.0! Now my parents are really upset, 'cuz that's thousands of extra dollars a year--not on gas, not on the vehicle itself...Just insurance! They're not sure I can get my license now b/c of it. This really frustrates me. I will be 17 in a couple months, and I really, really, really want to get my driver's license. I have a car, I'll buy the gas, but the insurance is astounding! So my question is, is $88 A MONTH typical for other companies/ or in other states (We're in AZ).""

What do you think about life insurance? Do you have it? Details below.?
My dad got life insurance 10 yeras ago, and now the price of the premium has increased 8 times more than what we were paying. Since his 10 years of life insurance at the affordable rate has expired, I'm thinking of asking him to renew it, but we were paying at such an affordable price. But he doesn't want life insurance and doesn't seem to care about protecting the family in case of his death. But I'm wondering, is life insurance that is something really worth it? My dad is a healthy individual. And even if we pay, would the premium have gotten up? My add is over 50, and I'm wondering if our premium will double even though if they check his health again. What do you think?""

A cop, however, did write me a ticket. I'm wondering what effect (if any) this will have on my insurance rate seeing as it is my first ticket, and how or if I could avoid this by getting the points off my license. Thank you very much.""

Will getting a speeding ticket raise my insurance? I was helping my friend move her car today and got pulled over for going 10 mph + the speed limit (in a different state). I showed the cop her insurance and my license. He said he is going to mail me the ticket. Now, I am wondering after I pay this ticket, will my insurance increase even though this was not my vehicle, vehicle insurance, and it was in a different state (California). What cars have cheap insurance for a teen?
Not looking for some online thing with only a couple new cars. In YOUR experience what cars have the cheapest insurance? Right now I'm looking for any beater as looks really don't matter too much as I'm only gonna pay like $500 or a little more depending on the car and only going to drive it for 3-4 months or so (unless its a classic) because with the job I am getting next month Ill be able to afford a much nicer car and insurance in no time. I got a quote for an 03 civic si coupe at 400 bucks a month (while on my dads insurance) I am 17 and thats too much for me right now heck i could buy an old beater civic for that much. So I'm thinking going back as 90's and up (I'm all for classic cars but I dont think the insurance will be any less because they think all old cars have massive and fast motors and are death traps. I like this 87 monte carlo ss that isnt too old but again the insurance sees ss and adds another $100 -_- ) theres also a 76 camaro with a 305 that I really like and its already yellow! (bumble bee anyone?) though i dont know how the insurance would be for that. It's just a regular one as there was no z28 option in 76. Now I'm thinking what about the early 90s civics such as the hatch? though I would guess insurance would still be high because they are easy to steal see my frustration no matter what cheap car i think of insurance finds a reason to skyrocket rates What cars can you recommend me that I can get for a grand? cheap insurance and cheap gas would be good too but if the fbodys arent too bad on insurance then i dont care about the gas.

Does my teenager need to be added to my insurance policy BEFORE he receives his driver's license?
Three of my friends didn't add their kids until they actually had their licenses, and the driving school said that technically they are covered by the parent's insurance while driving with just a permit. When I called AAA, they said I needed to add him. If I don't have to add him to the policy until he's actually a licensed driver and save the enormous $$$ it'll cost, I'd prefer to wait.""

How to convince parents to let me have auto insurance?
I've had my license for a little over three months now. However, I have no insurance, and therefore cannot drive (in California). Their reasoning is that I am an unsafe driver which I disagree with because I quite easily passed my driving test at the DMV and always think before I do anything when I drive. However, they seem firm on their decision... It's a bit frustrating having my license for so long but still being unable to drive. I'm tired of having to always ask friends for a ride or my parents; I just want a taste of independence. Of course, I'm not trying to be too arrogant or stubborn, I've respected my parent's decision, it's just bugging me a bit now haha. I offered to do a six-month plan instead of a year plan since I'm heading off to college in Septemberish. I'm about to turn 18 in a couple weeks also. Does anyone have any advice?""

Car insurance help..?
I just asked this question but i'll add more details--------------------- About me - I pass my test 06/03/12 And bought a car and insurance - 10/03/12 ( the car was a vauxhall corsa) I still have the vauxhall and it's insured untull the 10th of March. I'm buying a suzuki swift today and want to insure it but It's cheaper if i have 1 year No claims bonus (NCB). To get my NCB i have to wait until the 10th and i dont mind that what's bothering me is I want to sell my Corsa before or after the 10th or whatever to a garage so not private sale and still have my NCB. Is there something a garage can do where i take it to them on the day my insurance ends and they keep it until it ends? I haven't insured the suzuki AT ALL yet and i'm relying on my NCB as it takes a huge chunk out of the money. thanks.

How do health insurance deductibles work?
I'm looking at individual health insurance plans. All of them say they have a deductable of $500 - $5000. I'm reading the plan overview and it's explaining what the plan covers. It says prescriptions are covered after deductible, office visits are covered after deductible, and so on. Does this mean if a plan has a $5000 deductible that the health insurance company will not cover anything until after I've paid $5000 out of pocket on healthcare? Does that mean that if I had to go to the emergency room i'd have to pay for it myself until I've paid up to $5000? I'm really confused. False County Court Claim Against Me on My Car Insurance?
Someone has put a claim in against me for damages, for an accident I know nothing about. It is from early 2010 and has been going on since then. I have been contesting it on the grounds I have not been involved in an incident, however the third party solicitors have issued County Court proceedings against me. My insurance company are saying they are putting in a defence and have provided a barrister. I am really annoyed with this as I know I haven't been in an accident. I could understand if maybe they were claiming I clipped them and I had done it without realising but they are claiming for an accident which I have no knowledge of! I have attended the Magistrate's Court hearing and although I pleaded not guilty I have been found guilty on the grounds that for the time and date of the accident I have no alibi, witness or other evidence to support my whereabouts. The other party has an independent witness who works for the same company and alleges she could recognise my car but not me as a driver. Mag court fined me and gave me 6 points on my licence. I am not working (and not in receipt of any benefits) and this CC claim amounts to 5k! How would I pay a sum like this??? Or would my insurance company pay out if I was found to be at fault ??? Why the youths should act now instead of waiting for dictators to die naturally

Why the youths should act now instead of waiting for dictators to die naturally
Niger. Uganda. Mali. Malawi. Zambia. The world’s youngest populations — some of them with a median age of 15 years old —dictated upon by over 70’s
Africa’s oldest dictators
Given this picture, perhaps Africa’s young people are becoming the very change they wish to see.
In all of these countries, the voting age is 18. Assuming elections are completely devoid of fraud and everyone who can vote turns out at the booths, there is still no democracy — no possible rule by the majority. After all, the majority cannot vote.
Meanwhile, a survey of national leaders paints a contrasting picture. Uganda’s dictator Yoweri Museveni is 72 years old and has been in power for 31 years. (Fighting hard to change his age and constitution) About three-quarters of Uganda’s population has never lived under another head of state.
Mali’s Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta is also 72 years old. Peter Mutharika of Malawi is at least 76 years of age.
In Zimbabwe, the median age is 20 years old, which is 10 years younger than the world’s median age. Its dictator, Robert Mugabe, turned 93 years old on February 21. He is now three or four generations older than the majority of his country.
Why does such a vast canyon of political power exist between Africa’s elderly oligarchy and the youthful majority?
Youths are defined as those between ages 15 and 35. In other words, your youth begins when you are older than almost half of your country’s population; it ends when you already have multiple children old enough to attend school.
This overly inclusive rhetoric of “youth” has been used by political elites to justify the unemployment and exploitation of massive populations across Africa — many of whom are taking on serious life responsibilities like getting married, starting a career and raising children. Yet, according to their governments, they are still youth. Their time has not yet come [Leaders of tomorrow]
Acceptance of their subjugated position — based solely on the factor of age — has isolated young adults from seizing political control of their countries. They settle for competition in “youth parliaments,” which are devoid of any real power. Regimes arrange youth dialogues, lacking any genuine will to follow through on the results of these dialogues, to further decorate the façade of democracy.
Not all have settled for this co-optation, of course. In 2014, for instance, an uprising in Burkina Faso ousted President Blaise Compaoré, who was born in 1951 and had enjoyed a 27-year presidency.
The young people of Burkina Faso are not alone. Throughout Africa, so-called youth are struggling to take back their destinies from the gerontocracies that stole them.
Get them out before more damage is done
One such young activist, Promise Mkwananzi of Zimbabwe’s #Tajamuka/Sesjikile (meaning “agitated”) movement, is determined to see Mugabe off before he dies. Mkwananzi filed a case against Mugabe, claiming that he is too frail and unfit to rule.
Although the case was dismissed on the basis that Mugabe had not been served at the proper location, Mkwananzi’s spirits are high. “We showed that the president can be challenged and scared him out of his wits,” he said. “The judges had to hide behind technicalities and shied away from the merits of the case. He may have succeeded in destroying my generation’s hope, but he cannot be permitted to destroy my children’s hope too.”
Before the recent overthrow of Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, who had clung to power for 22 years, an activist told me, “We cannot wait until Jammeh dies because more will be killed, tortured or disappeared. We need to rise up and finish them before they finish us.”
The desperation for immediate change is an obvious concern for anyone trying to survive in a place where dead bodies are common sightings, and not every African has the opportunity to wait. Some dictators are fairly young. Democratic Republic of the Congo President Joseph Kabila is only 45 years old and has been refusing to hold elections due to what he calls a lack of money (in the world’s most mineral-rich country). Meanwhile, Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza — who is in the middle of an illegal third term — is 53 years old and still plays soccer.
The point is simple: Dictators are a problem now, and the problems they pose aren’t going anywhere without some sort of change. As Zimbabwean activist Raymond Chibatamoto said, “Whether Mugabe dies in power or not, his leadership years are genocidal. We must avoid a repeat.”
Deaths of presidents entrench African regimes
Such “repeats” — where rule of an authoritarian is inherited by his offspring or inner circle — seem to be the main product of an African dictator’s death. In my home of Uganda, I continually hear people say, “Let’s just wait until the old man dies.” History tells us such surrender holds no promise.
When Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Meles Zenawi died in 2012, a successor — Hailemariam Desalegn — was appointed. In a single month, Desalegn’s interim position became permanent. Political space in Ethiopia has remained dreadfully thin under the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front’s lengthened administration.
Few counterexamples exist. There is no evidence that the passing of a head of state leads to democratic transition in Africa. In most instances, as in the case of Desalegn’s tenure, political space closes all the more.
Upon reviewing 79 dictators who passed away while in office, researchers Andrea Kendall-Taylor and Erica Frantz found that regimes endured in 92 percent of the cases. They also discovered that coups and revolts upon an autocrat’s death occurred only 6 percent of the time.
As they noted, “Death in office, it turns out, is a remarkably unremarkable event.”
Like father, like son
Family dynasties are making their mark on the continent.
Burials of important African men are often characterized by luxury and pomp. Self-important patriarchs want to ensure their survivors continue their legacy. My wife, a Lango of northern Uganda, often reminds me I shouldn’t take this intergenerational patriarchy lightly. “The success of your children will be attributed to you,” she says. “All blame for their mistakes is attributed to me, their mother.”
This is why Africans are so rarely shocked whenever state leadership is passed on to family members.
In 2013, Uganda’s defected spy chief David Sejusa called for investigations into President Museveni’s alleged plans to kill those who opposed the Muhoozi Project, an alleged scheme to pass on the dictator’s seat to his son Kainerugaba Muhoozi.
A similar plot is unraveling now in Angola. On February 3, dictator Jose Eduardo dos Santos reaffirmed his commitment not to run for another term. During his 38 years in power, he has reneged on such promises numerous times, but on this occasion the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola party has presented defense minister João Lourenço as its new candidate. Behind the curtain is dos Santos’ daughter Isabel, Africa’s richest female billionaire thanks to blood diamonds and the family’s grip on the oil sector. The presiding dictator seems to be moving his chess pieces ahead of a political transition to maintain the family’s grip on Angola’s wealth of natural resources.
Mugabe, two decades older than most of the next oldest African dictators, is an extreme case. As party loyalists commence the infighting, his wife Grace Mugabe, age 51, has elbowed her way into the mix.
“If God decides to take him, then we would rather field him as a corpse,” she said at a rally in eastern Zimbabwe earlier this month, taking her prior commitment to push him around in a wheelchair to the next level. Absurd as it sounds, such rhetoric hints at her own serious bid to remain close to the seat of power.
What about the wayward son?
Today many dictators send their children to study in Europe or North America, where education and exposure to new ideas could conceivably foster a kinder brand of leadership upon succession. Yet, even where there appears to be hope for such an outcome, regime structures have been so viciously consolidated that the next generation oftentimes has difficulty changing the way the game is played.
Africa, of course, has no monopoly on this lesson. When North Korean dictator Kim Jong-il died in 2011, some expected the youthful Kim Jong-un — a fan of American basketball and western pop culture — to be a bit less draconian. Nothing significant, however, has changed since the 2011 transition. If anything, he has been more outwardly aggressive than his father.
Meanwhile, in Syria, President Bashar al-Assad, who succeeded his father Hafez in 2000, showed an early promise toward reform. A brief surge in freedom of expression and the release of 600 political prisoners gave Syrians optimism for a new age. However, the old guard, having enjoyed access to the political levers during Hafez’s government, squelched the young leader’s influence. Bashar’s brutality intensified thereafter.
While gerontocracy and nepotism are global phenomena, they are particularly common in Africa. If dictators die today, tomorrow may be no better.
The task in deposing the despots rests in the hands of the hundreds of millions of African youth. Only the rising generations will be able to respond to the challenges ahead for a continent ravaged by centuries of oppression.
African gerontocracy is not the only narrative
To say Africa was inevitably destined for gerontocratic pseudo-democracy with the rise of nation-states would be too simplistic of a narrative. Too many anecdotes run contrary to rule by elderly patriarchs, who often defend their prolonged control of national governments by accusing dissidents of violating patriarchal African culture.
“Ancient Kemet had a system called ‘Maat’ where the masculine and feminine principles were in perfect balance,” said Oyaka Makmot, one of the founders of Uganda’s Popular Resistance Against Life Presidency, which unsuccessfully tried to stop Museveni from abolishing presidential term limits. “The society thrived and built a great civilization that is in many ways unrivaled in it’s creativity and innovation. However, as Kemet went into decline, the masculine began to dominate the feminine.”
Oyaka further noted that most African societies established systems whereby elders were selected on the basis of their integrity and good social standing, but as the masculine began to dominate the feminine, dictatorship became the norm.
“Whereas gerontocracy once tried and tested people of character to be leaders,” Makmot explained, “it is now a system used by corrupt leaders to entrench themselves in power.”
If one former African head-of-state has shown that young people can lead their country forward, it is Thomas Sankara — also known as “Africa’s Che Guevara.” Assuming power in 1983, he urgently vaccinated millions of Burkinabé who had lacked access to proper health care. Corrupt leaders of the previous administration agonized through public, televised trials. Female genital mutilation and forced marriages were banned. Land was redistributed from feudal landlords to peasants, and Burkino Faso — formerly a donor dependent country — attained food sufficiency within four years.
Even in pre-colonial governance structures, according to Makmot, one finds examples of young leaders who diligently served their tribes.
“The Omukama [King] of Bunyoro [modern midwestern Uganda] known as Kabalega was only 17 years old when he became king,” Makmot said. “Some missionaries documented successful caesarian sections performed in the late 19th century [during Kabalega’s tenure].”
Kabalega allied with the nearby Lango tribe and staved off the British for five years, eventually conceding in 1899. (Under the British scorched-earth approach, surgical equipment used by the celebrated surgeons of Bunyoro was looted.) To this day, Kabalega is championed for his leadership, even as other older leaders from neighboring tribes sold themselves out to colonialists.
“Many visionary leaders led their nations between the ages of 17 and 40,” Makmot said. “What I would like the young people of Africa to do is resolve to retire every single leader above the age of 50.”
While such a goal may seem out of reach, it’s not hard to see some momentum in its direction. For starters, Makmot and his comrades are continuing to participate in nonviolent resistance against Museveni. Then there’s the Anglophone Cameroonians, who are rising up against Paul Biya amidst an Internet blackout, and the Sudanese — at home and in the diaspora — who are putting pressure on Omar al-Bashir. Gambians are already enjoying the recent exile of Yahya Jammeh.
Given this picture, perhaps Africa’s young people are becoming the very change they wish to see.
