Suddenly thinking of the Guardians in a human mad max setting.
Peter grew up in a group of Rock Riders. Gamora and Nebula are the daughters/executioners of Thanos, the ruler of The Black Order with his children. Rocket used to be a slave/universal blood donor, Groot came from the Green Place, and Drax's family got killed while trying to escape.
Mantis is stuck in a cult where people see Ego as a God.
Peter wants to split from Yondu but can't out of self-preservation. He resents Yondu for taking him away from his mother but also knows that he survived this long thanks to him.
Gamora yearns to be out of Thanos' rule, tired of being used as his weapon to cut down the Wretches and anyone that opposes him. She finally finds the chance to escape when Thanos orders Ronan on a mission. Gamora escapes in a vehicle, but Nebula hitches a ride, ready to deliver punishment for her betrayal. Then things happen, and let's just say they have a truce.
Rocket fixes cars and makes weapons from parts from people he steals from. He travels with Groot and is always paranoid. The tattoo on his back marks him as a universal donor, and he'll raise hell before he lets anyone take his blood again.
Groot comes from the Green Place and carries around a bag of seeds. He travels with Rocket after saving him from death and tending to his injuries. He only says I, Am, and Groot in the specific order.
Drax's family was murderer by Ronan during a raid. Now Drax travels in search of his family's killer and hopefully reunites with his wife and daughter once he completes his revenge.
When not playing the role Ego sets her to play, Mantis reads forgotten books in the library. Eagerly escaping the world through stories and history. There's also an unfinished map hidden in a drawer, but she doesn't touch that. She has a strange knack in knowing how someone is feeling. Probably from handling her father's worshipers.
When word is out that Ego is looking for his child, various people come in hopes they'll be let into his kingdom. One by one, they do, but they never come back out.
Peter’s the key to finding a place with water and flourishing life. Upon finding it, Ego would be able to expand his power.
Meredith had half a map on her back, and Peter has the other half on his. Peter doesn't know the significance of the marking on his back, tho, only thinking it as one of the gifts his mother left behind.
Yondu knows what it's like to be a slave. He likes to forget, but he never does. But that's in the past, and he has his group of Riders to look after. But Ego requests to bring kids in from the west. Orphans specifically. In exchange for food and water. Who was Yondu to refuse? Especially when a father is desperately looking for his kid. His own parents sold him for resources.
So Yondu does the job, and he never sees the kids he delivers. One day, Ego lets him up as a reward. There was only Mantis and Ego. No kids. Ego doesn't give him a straight answer when he asks about them. Instead, Ego offers him another exchange for another child.
Yondu leaves, and he finds a kid curled next to a dying woman. He takes one look and knows the kid is Ego's son. While his green eyes are from his mother, the boy looks like the splitting image of his father.
The boy snarls as Yondu approaches his mother, and the woman uses her dying breath to utter a single plea.
"Take my hand, Peter."
The boy doesn't take her hand, and her hand falls. The boy screams as Yondu yanks him away. The boy thrashes and curses up a storm, impassive for the little tyke.
Then he feels a stab of pain and looks to see the boy stabbed his shoulder with a tiny knife.
He thinks about his parents, about Ego, about the children he never saw agai. About the woman and her plea.
Yondu grins and announces that instead of eating the boy as he planned, he's make a Road Rider out of Peter. Just he wait.

Peter Quill giving Rocket his Zune at the end is symbolic of him letting go of his past so he can actually heal.  Music to him was his tie to his mom, and later Yondu as well, it wasn’t just a thing he was possessive of because he likes music, it’s because he refuses to let go.  His drastic love of nostalgic things to him shows he covets the past.
When Rocket is so close to death, and being confronted with the risk of more loss it gives Peter a much needed reality check that those in his life still living need him more than those who are dead.  This paired with parting ways with Gamora as friends inspired him to go finally reach out to his grandfather.

I don't like the Found Family trope.
There, did I get your attention? It's true, but the question is, why is Guardians of the Galaxy still one of my favorite stories in any medium ever?
Something really clicked for me with the ending of Vol. 3 (spoilers ahead, natch). The team broke up and that kind of development is usually heartbreaking, because we love the team, they love each other, now that they've found each other why should they ever part ways?
The answer is that they're a family, and that's what families do. Growing up means leaving the parents who raised you and finding a path of your own, maybe to someday continue the cycle with kids of your own, but never losing what you got from your first family. Those people, who you can't choose, will always be a part of you.
Each of the Guardians, aside from Drax, had their childhoods interrupted by traumatic events. They didn't get to finish growing up naturally, and that loss hounded them all their lives. When they found each other they began to heal, but here's what I didn't realize until the end of the trilogy: the family that they found with each other wasn't the kind that you make when you grow up. It's the kind that you grow out of.
From the beginning, Peter has shown signs of "Peter Pan Syndrome," acting like a little boy even though he's highly skilled, courageous, and compassionate. His maturity gradually began to show through, but one quirk that kept coming up was his refusal to return to Earth. No good reason for it except that he couldn't bear the reminder of his mother and he was ashamed to face his grandfather. He can handle it now because his life with the Guardians gave him the stability he needed to become a true adult.
Gamora's new incarnation doesn't need the Guardians because she found the Ravagers instead. We don't know much about them but I expect that what they did for Yondu, they'll do for her too. In the meantime, Nebula's had a few good years of being loved and now she can follow the footsteps of the Gamora who was lost, aside from falling for Peter, because that's unlikely to ever work again.
Groot's been the most fortunate, not having his youth cut short or taking any serious trauma since he sprouted. Eventually he may want to strike out on his own, but until then it's good that he can stick with Rocket.
Mantis seemed more aware than anyone of their internal struggles, including her own. Which is appropriate, her being an empath and all. She really made the boldest possible move, going it alone, and I'm proud of her. Hoping she'll make an appearance in The Marvels or something else before reuniting with Peter and/or the Guardians.
Drax is a special case and the one who I thought was most likely to die, since it seemed like his arc was all wrapped up: he had his childhood before we met him and it was his adulthood that was ripped away from him. Revenge was his entire deal and Ronan and Thanos are dead now, so what's left for Drax? Well, it turns out revenge doesn't have to be his entire deal and now I'm embarrassed I ever thought otherwise.
Rocket...oh, Rocket. We always knew that he was something other than what nature had intended, and that was on top of the nonstop physical and emotional abuse, but now it turns out he already lost the only three people who put anything good into his sad little life. Since there was nothing to salvage from his upbringing, he was the one who needed the Guardians the most, so he's the only founding member to stay. But no mistake, it matters that he's staying as the leader. He's not alone, but he's not under anyone's control, either. He knows who is now and he knows his worth.
The "don't call me a raccoon" running joke always bothered me a little but I never dreamed it would have a payoff like it did in Vol. 3. Rocket claiming his full name is much more than a nod to his comic origins. It's his understanding of where he began and the injustice that was done to him, his acceptance that he wasn't at fault for the deaths of his first companions and that he does deserve to be loved by the Guardians.
That's the foundation that lets everyone part ways without having to ask each other if this means their relationships are over. As far as I've seen, no other found family in fiction has reached this point - the team is generally the endgame, and if someone leaves, things will never be the same again.
In a real family, a good one, when someone leaves we celebrate. Congratulations on your first apartment. Good luck at college. Blessings on your union. Just remember, you can always come home again. Our arms are open for you.

Yondu Udonta x Chubby/Plus Size Reader
Imagine: You and Yondu used to date when Peter was first taken in onto the ship, but things didn’t work out after you left the Ravagers, but when Peter finds you again on a mission, he makes it his goal to get the two of you back together.

You stopped unpacking your latest shipment of inventory when the chimes rang on the front door to let you know you had a new customer, “Just one second!” You called out as you hurried out of your stock room and behind the counter where you saw a very familiar face. You gasped in shock, but smiled nonetheless, “Peter? Is that really you?” The boy- no man now, nodded his head and opened his arms, an invitation for a hug which you gladly accepted. You held him tightly, “Look at you! You’ve grown so much since the last time I saw you, you’re actually taller than me now.” Peter grinned, “It’s awesome right? Oh right, let me introduce you to my..crew, this is Gamora, the purple hothead is Drax, the tree is Groot, the trash panda is Rocket and that’s Mantis.” You smiled and waved at them all, “Hello, nice to meet you, I’m (Y/N), I’m surprised Peter managed to make some friends with that big head of his.” Peter rolled his eyes, “So how’s business here? You still keeping in touch with Yondu?” You glanced at the people watching you and Peter, watching as they all awkwardly turned away as you replied to Peter, “No, we uh, we haven’t talked ever since I left.” Peter furrowed his brow in confusion, “What? But you guys were together for like...forever, why not?” You sighed, “Sometimes things just don’t work out and if it’s alright with you, I’d rather not have this conversation right now.” Your eyes darted towards his friends as an explanation. Peter sighed, “Fine, then will you meet me on my ship tonight so we can catch up? I’ve missed you mo- (Y/N).” You smiled, it was softer this time though, it had been a while since you heard Peter call you mom. You gently swiped a little bit of dirt from his shoulder, “You can still call me that if you want honey.”
After a little catch up before Peter had to leave, he gave you the directions to his ship and told you to meet him there at 6pm. He had called out “See ya later mom!” as he had left which put a smile on your face for the rest of the day. You were looking forward to catching up with Peter, he seemed different to the little boy you used to take care of but still almost the same in a way too. At five o’clock, you closed your shop and headed home to get ready to meet Peter. You took a shower and got dressed in black leather trousers, a long sleeved dark blue shirt and black boots, complete with a leather jacket. You put on a bit of light makeup, still wanting to look nice since you didn’t really go out much anymore. It took you a little while to find Peter’s ship but you got there in the end, finding said man standing looking at his watch, knowing you were rarely late. His ship was much bigger than you were expecting and you were proud of him for that, he must be very successful in whatever he does. You were sat down on a padded bench of some kind listening as Peter rambled on about one of his adventures to you when you heard heavy footsteps, “Boy! What have I told you about touching my controls!” You froze in your seat and Peter shrugged, “Oh no.. I must have forgotten to tell you that Yondu is with us. Oh well.” You glared at him and got up, planning on leaving but your body didn’t move as you saw someone walking down the stairs and familiar blue skin when he turned around and came face to face with you. An awkward silence filled the air as the two of you looked at each other. For the both of you, it was as if the rest of the world didn’t exist anymore, you could see only each other. Your heart was pounding in anticipation and you felt your mouth go dry and your palms turn sweaty.
Yondu was speechless for once in his life. He had never expected that he would be able to see you when he woke up this morning. Of course, a day never went by when he didn’t think about you but to actually have you in front of him was a whole different story. The others grew uncomfortable with the silence until Rocket made it worse, “Well this isn’t awkward at all,” Peter jumped onto his feet, slinging his arm around you, “Look who’s here, and she’s single.” You turned to glare at Peter, before walking away, “I should go, I need to..” you didn’t finish your sentence as you rushed down the stairs and out of the exit, about to hurry home. You had barely taken two steps outside when a hand yanked you back around to pull you against a hard chest. You gasped in shock as you looked up at Yondu, “Seven goddamn years you’ve been gone and now you show up, don’t even say nothin to me, seven years without a word.” Your eyes prickled with tears but they were a mix of sadness and anger. You pushed yourself away from him, “You don’t think I wanted to?! It was horrible being away from you and Peter, I loved you both so much you have no idea how much it hurt to leave.” Yondu wasn’t backing down, not that you expected him to, he had every right to be angry after you left without saying goodbye, just a note with an apology written on it. He grabbed your wrist, getting in your face, “Why did yer leave in the first place, you could at least have the decency of telling me that.” You sniffed back your tears, you weren’t going to show your vulnerability so easily, “Because the crew told me that Ravagers aren’t allowed to be in relationships and that you could’ve lost your title if word got out. It would’ve been too hard to stick around and seeing you every day if we broke up so I left, I’m sorry. I did it for you!”
Yondu loosened his grip on you and you took a step back, wrapping your arms around yourself in a pathetic attempt comfort yourself to stop the tears rushing to your eyes, “Those days on the ship with you and Peter were the best I ever had. It broke me to leave, but I didn’t want to risk your position, I know how much being a Ravager means to you and I wasn’t worth jeopardising that.” You looked down at your feet and after a few moments of silence from Yondu, you moved to leave, only to once again be pulled right back into that same hard chest. This time, Yondu wrapped his arms around you, holding you close and you couldn’t stop the sobs coming out your mouth, your hands balling up into his jacket.
Yondu hesitantly raised a hand to gently stroke your hair, waiting for you to calm down before he spoke. “I obviously wasn’t a very good boyfriend if yer thought I would’a chose being a lonely Ravager over having yer by my side.” You sniffled and felt your heart break all over again, finding out you put yourself through all that misery for nothing, though you still would have felt unmeasurable guilt had you been the cause of Yondu being stripped of his title. You wiped your eyes carefully, trying not to smudge your mascara even more than you were sure it had already. “I’m sorry Yondu. Will you ever forgive me?” Yondu scoffed, his blue hand coming up to cup your cheek, “Only if yer forgive me for not coming to find yer and haul yer back to where you belong, baby.”
You bit your lip to stop yourself from crying once again, but your sadness disappeared from Yondu’s next question, “Have you really been single all this time? A fine woman like yerself?” You couldn’t help your smile as you traced your fingers over his collar, “I’ve had a few offers..” Yondu instantly tensed and you saw anger in his eyes as you riled up his jealous streak, “Offers huh? Did you take em?” You rolled your eyes at him, “Of course not, no matter how long it had been, a certain blue whistler kept the key to my heart.” Yondu frowned, “Good, yer my woman, always have been and always will be.”
You couldn’t help the warmth that rushed through you from his possessive statement as you but your lip, “Oh yeah? Prove it.” Yondu grinned wide, his crooked teeth exposed as he did. “Gladly babe.” He placed his left hand on the back of your neck as he leaned down and kissed you with a familiar passion it felt as though no time had passed at all. His right hand placed itself on your wide hip, using his grip to pull your body flush against his. You’d missed the feeling of his body against yours. Your mouth opened into a moan and Yondu wasted no time in letting his tongue inside your mouth, deepening the kiss. Your hands came up to rest on his shoulders, feeling his broad muscles once more. Yondu released a soft groan as he tightened his grip on you, “Hey get a room you two!” You pulled back to see Peter hanging out of the ship’s window and once he caught your eye he motioned you to come back on board. Yondu ignored his adoptive son’s exclamation and made a move to start kissing down your neck. You stifled a giggle from how ticklish his stubble was against your sensitive skin as you lightly pushed on his chest to get him to pull away.
“Come on, I wanna spend time with our son and his new friends.” Yondu scoffed and huffed in annoyance but you could tell it wasn’t real anger, he was just annoyed to be cockblocked. Yondu leaned down to speak in your ear, “Fine but yer spending the night with me, yer got seven whole years to make up for darlin.” You blushed as you started walking in front and let out a small squeak as Yondu’s hand sharply connected to your plump rear as you walked up the stairs. It was amazing how quickly you fit in within the group and you loved seeing Peter so happy with Gamora, happy to know that he had found someone. You only wished that Peter had stumbled across you much much earlier.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 initial thoughts
[ NOT spoiler-free ]
For me, this is one of the few franchises that got better and better as it went along. This third movie was just absolutely phenomenal. As someone had said, it is a great send-off to the movie and the Guardians we've known.
They did a great job exploring Rocket's origin. It really explains why he's never wanted to talk about his past. It was violent and heartbreaking. Nebula's line of "They did worse things to him than Thanos did to me" (or something along that line) summarized it best. You also understand why Rocket can be so violent: it wasn't much because he learned it from the people who engineered him, but because the last time he tried to get away safely, quietly, his friends - essentially his family - all got killed. And the person who caused it was so cold about it. So while he could be extreme, he does it so that no one can hurt him or any of his friends ever again.
Which leads to this other point: Rocket is a grump and a cynic, but deep down he actually really loved the other Guardians.
Adam Warlock! I didn't know what to expect from him, but after seeing the movie, I want to see more of him.
Also: it's great that the movie managed to give Adam his own origin story, his own motivation for why he eventually ended up being a guardian.
Drax was hilarious in this movie, as he always is, but Mantis kinda came for the crown a bit! The fact that she made him fall in love with a sock for fun and made one of the guards they had to get through fall in love with him were some of the funniest moments in the movie.
On a more serious Drax note: "Drax. You weren't meant to be a destroyer. You were meant to be a dad." One of the best lines in the movie. I never would have thought that this is how Drax would "grow up" as a character, but it all made sense. It does.
Kraglin had a fantastic growth too. He'd been trying to train with the arrow Yondu gave him over and over and over, trying to concentrate and plan and think. And he kept failing over and over and over. But when Knowhere was in danger, he finally remembered what Yondu told him: "Fly it with your heart." When he realized that he needed to get out of his head, man did he do some damage. It was amazing.
The bad dog/good dog argument 😂
Gamora. I like how they approached that. They didn't make her fall in love with Peter, even after all the fighting that they did as a team. They were barely even good friends in the end. Also, it's nice that she has a different family to belong to now (the Ravagers) but who still loved her just the same. It's good that they didn't try to change her. They made her realistic.
Lol "You guys are just making up what he's saying" when Groot would talk
Nebula. Oh, man, where do I begin. I've started really liking her as a character since GotG 2, and even more so during Endgame, but wow. She's really grown. She looks after the people of Knowhere, the Guardians look to her for big decisions and even resolution for internal problems of the team. The team respects her, even more than Peter most times. She still has rage inside, and she has trouble expressing other feelings without it, but I think she's made tremendous progress. And it's so obvious that she cares deeply about the team and even the lives of others, even if she doesn't outright say it.
Okay. There's a lot to unearth with the not-so-subtle hints at Peter/Nebula. First off, it's obvious in this movie and even in the Christmas special that Nebula's been looking after Peter. But the fact that she would take him home whenever he was totally wasted and put him to bed, making sure he was comfortable? And when Gamora was going to hurt Peter out of frustration and Nebula jumped in to stop her, practically telling her to back off? And that when Gamora suggested that the woman Peter's describing, the one that he's fallen in love with because she's grown from being ruthless to being caring, is Nebula, and Peter started looking at her differently? Bruh. I don't know what they're playing at here, but alright. I'm onboard.
Speaking of Peter, I like that he decided to come back home to Earth to reach out to his grandfather. I'd like to think he got a little help from the Avengers to get to that doorstep (info, means of transpo, things like that). It was great to see him in a normal life setting in the post-credit, too, where he's just eating cereal, talking smack about someone behind their back lol
Okay, that's it for now. Will come back when I remember the other things I liked (spoiler alert: there's a TON)

one of the funniest things about thor love and thunder is starlord going "KRAGLIN. were you on the ship this whole time?" "yeah you told me to watch the ship" implying that they just lose track of him that easily and that's why we never saw him in infinity war or endgame. my dude was probably off on some planet marrying the first pretty alien lady he saw while the rest of the guardians were fighting for their lives. would yondu's arrow have killed thanos? maybe! but they forgot kraglin on planet #3415 and he's too busy getting laid now so i guess we'll never know

I rrrrrrreeeeaaalllllyyyy need marvel to mess around with the whole humans are deathworlders thing cause so far the aliens we got in the MCU are:
Skrulls
Chitauri
Titans (Thanos)
Kree
Asgardians & the other Nine Realms (Frost Giants, etc.)
and then some other things that have less representation but still there:
Gamora
Groot
Drax
Yondu
Howard the Duck???
but anyways, as far as the Chitauri, Skrulls, and Kree (and also Thanos’ children), humans are far less technologically advanced; the Chitauri are controlled from a mothership, which as bad strategy as it is, it’s still a lot more advanced than the tech on Earth. Humans are also looked down upon by everyone from Thanos to Loki to the Kree. Skrulls are shapeshifters, need I say more. The Asgardians are literally gods with magic powers that live for thousands of years and have enhanced strength. Ebony Maw can do neat magic with his hands, and he also has those funky needles that he was poking at Strange with in Infinity War. But I want to see another alien species in the MCU where the characters realize that they are afraid of humans; but not because of tales of the Avengers or Captain Marvel or because the humans are protected by the Gods of Asgard. They’re afraid of humans because it’s built in, because the humans are apex predators. Or maybe the aliens slowly realize that they should fear the humans, once they see the pack bonding and the incredible stamina, and the weird sixth sense of feeling when someone’s watching you. Idk I just think that would be really neat

Just a thought! You dont need to do it if youre busy, have a great week!
hii! omg yes I love it. and don’t worry me you and everyone else feels the same way😭 ive been defending him in comment sections for years so im glad he’s finally getting recognition he deserves. big up quill. I also did this first, as it was a fun sorta break in between other writing. thank you for requesting, hope you like it💌 have a great weekend also. xo

- he doesn’t always have the best attention span, but when it comes to you he could watch you paint/ draw for hours. it’s something that keeps him entertained
- he likes to ask questions/ communicate while you work “that’s cool, what does that do?” or “how did you do that?” feel like he’d be mesmerised watching the canvas come to life
- you both listen to his music while you do anything artsy, the combination is the best of both worlds
- but if he’s not watching you/ hanging around at the same time, you like to listen to his music so it feels like he’s still there. he’s silently caught you a few times and it makes him feel special that his music means so much to you
- he definitely brags to the other guardians about how talented you are (like tony and thor talking about their girls in age of ultron)
- I feel like he can be a great helper- if you’re at the easel, he stands next to you holding the things you need so you don’t have to keep bending/ reaching etc. or if you need a brush cleaned, he’d do it for you
- if you wanted to do pottery, he’d get rocket to make you a pottery wheel, whatever you needed, rocket will make
- if you live with him in his apartment on knowhere, he’s moved his things about so that you could paint by the window/ designated a space/ area for you to work at (he remembers watching bob ross a couple times when he was a kid, so he used the tips he learned and put them into practice for you)
- if and when he sees any kind of art materials on other planets, he definitely brings them back for you. over a while you’ve acquired quite a diverse set of tools that’s broadened the quality of your art
- I feel like he’d kind of pimp you out- would put your name out there to get more people to commission work from you
- you’re now the go-to that people come to when they want new things for their houses. a majority of people on knowhere have probably bought work from you
- you’ve made pieces for every guardian, something specific and detailed that has meaning to each individual (kind of like the holiday special) you’d be very creative and intricate in tailoring the work to the person
- mantis absolutely adores what you made. nebula was apprehensive at first but you caught her smiling when she thought you weren’t paying attention. drax goes into great detail when he describes what he loves about it, always using crazy big adjectives. rocket said he doesn’t care for art, but the way it’s displayed in his apartment tells you otherwise. and groot was super happy to have something made by you
- quill has treasured everything you’ve ever made him, he can be very sentimental so all the work you made is something he deeply appreciates. something minuscule you made at the beginning of the relationship, is kept in one of his memory boxes (like a flower made of tissue)
- maybe you’ve made things to honour his parents, using stories he’s told you into creating something beautiful (two separate pieces- one of meredith and one of yondu) they are something he has hung up and displayed in his apartment. I feel like it’s helped him deal with his grief- and over time he’s been able to look at the artwork without feeling sad. now he can smile when he sees their faces
- its definitely made him fall harder for you

requesting hcs of nebula pining over female reader please and thank you! set after gotg 3 and reader is one of the teachers who teaches the kids they saved from the high evolutionary
Nebula Pining Over Fem! Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing:Nebula x Reader
Tw:Angst with a happy ending
—————————————
Ever since the events of the battle against the High Evolutionary, Nebula got way sadder than usual
Sure they saved a bunch of people and lots of civilizations, but right when she was getting used to her lil disfunctional family they decided that they needed some time apart of the group
She helped everywhere she could in Knowhere, from building stuff, to fixing equipment, till a day where Kraglin asked her if she could help with teaching the children the basics of self defense
It was definitely not what she was used to, but coming from a "family" of abuse she understood the importance of it
An that's when she met you!
As she was waiting for her class with the children start, she saw you on one of the windows of the building teaching the children how to comunicate with everyone
From that moment she felt weird, overwhelmed, it was a feeling that she never felt before, and the fact that she didn't knew what it was only made her upset
She was going to pretend that it was nothing, until a day when her session with the kids ended that you went to talk to her
You waited just so you could thank her for what she was doing with the children, because as they were learning your language they were able to tell the horrible things they suffered on the ship
It was a simple thank you, but that didn't help Nebula with her feelings, quite the opposite actually
But after the group kinda dissipated she had no one to talk to
Her sister was not the same she lived with before the battle with Thanos, Quil was back on Terra and the most important person who could maybe help her, Mantis, was somewhere in the space, and it was obvious that Rocket, Groot and Drax where out of question
Every day you would stay to watch the kids you quickly bonded to see their improvement (definitely not for the goddess of a woman who was teaching them that you were slowly caughting feelings for)
Geeting closer to her, telling how cool her abilities were, saying how one day you wanted to be as strong as her
And every day that passed she got more intrigued by her own feelings towards you
Until one day Kraglin was telling her about some movie tapes that Yondu had found for Peter but didn't had the opportunity to give them, so he asked if she could keep them safe on her room till he came back
She wasn't exactly the type to like music or this so called movies, but she was just so bored one day that, when she was sure no one would ever know, she put a movie on the device that Rocket had made for Peter if they ever found one of those
She did not knew or cared about the name of the movie in question, but one of the main themes that kept poping over and over again made her understand everything
It was love!
Oh fuck it was love
Those were her first thoughts when she realized it, immediately turning off the thing and throwing the tape as far as she could
She could not feel love for you, in her head love wasn’t meant for her, she wasn’t worthy of love
But then again, why would you love her? A killer, a destroyer, machine
And after that day, she was not the same again
She asked to change the day of the sessions just so she would not see you, avoided you everywhere in Knowhere, and asked everybody to tell people to just leave her alone
She kept pushing the feeling back, and one day she cried for the second time in her entire life for a person
But she underestimated you
One day you simply showed up at her door, and even when she pretended she was not there you just screamed that you were going to wait
Seeing you really weren’t gonna budge she opened the door for you and saw your state
You looked sad, tired and even a bit sick
She went to ask what did you wanted but was met with a "did i do something wrong?"
Of course she was not understanding, but you just asked why she started avoiding you out of nowhere, almost starting to cry
Then all of the conflicted feelings she was feeling immediately turned into guilt
How could she do something like this to you? To leave you in that state just cause she could not understand what was happening
Then she finally could not wait any longer and told you everything, how she felt about you, how she was scared of those feelings, and how she thought she did not deserve any of what you wanted to give her
You immediately told her that it didn't matter the stuff she had done, the past was in the past and she deserved someone to help her see that things could be great, that she deserved to feel love and be loved
She said she was not used to it, but asked if she could give you a hug
It was kinda akward, but you could see that this was definelly just the beginning of something special between the both of you

Home || Peter Quill
Tumblr media
Summary: Peter goes home
Warnings: Uhh none, I think?
AN) this is a rewrite of something I did after Endgame! if you enjoy, please let me know! Also yes, there’s a reference to his bisexuality because fuck it, we need bi rep and so many people forget Peter Jason Quill is bisexual.
Peter looked down at the stack of letters he had been writing for (Y/N). He felt nervous, guilty even for returning after all these years. He hadn’t purposely left, he was abducted. He isn’t even sure if she remembers him. Was it possible?
To (Y/N) August 1989
The oldest letter in the stack, written the year after he was taken. It explained what his life was like now. Telling her about his first year in space. Asking her what it was like in 4th grade. Apologizing for being gone. Promising to see her as soon as he could. An ‘I love you always’ sloppily written at the bottom as he rushed to finish it.
To (Y/N) October 1990
10 year old Peter wished her a happy halloween, asking her what’s popular on Earth. The ramblings of a child excited about being gifted his very own spaceship. He made it a point to tell her it was named after Alyssa Milano. He told her all about Yondu and the ravagers.
He wrote to her at least once a year. His handwriting slowly improved as he aged. He smiled down at the aged stacks of paper, thinking back fondly to his childhood. Peter shuffled through the letters, quickly glancing at the dates on each of them.
To (Y/N) May 2006
To (Y/N) July 2012
To (Y/N) August 2014
To (Y/N) November 2014
He paused on that one. November 2014. He wrote about his relationship with Gamora. He wrote about how he met his biological father, who just happened to be a planet. He wrote about the death of said father, and the death of the father that actually raised him. Yondu.
To (Y/N) April 2023
The most recent one. He’d written it after they’d all returned. He wrote about the death of Gamora. He wrote about battling Thanos on Titan. He wrote about being back on Earth, about the massive battle in New York. He wrote about Tony Stark’s private funeral. He wrote about wanting to see her.
Peter organized the letters back in the original order. He’d asked Pepper for help, giving her what information he had on his childhood friend in hopes of tracking her down. Pepper had come through with plenty of information. (Y/N) actually lived in New York. She worked from home in IT. She was single. She had survived the blip. He was just down the street from her apartment, nerves taking over as he looked in the direction of her home. He took a deep breath, and continued down the street. Peter chewed on his lip as he knocked on her door. A faint ‘Just a minute!’ could be heard from the otherside, and at that moment, it took everything in him not to run away.
The door opened. “Hi, can I help you?” She spoke, his blood running cold and his throat felt tight.
“You’re totally not going to believe this, but it’s me, (Y/N).” Peter rushed, causing her to raise her eyebrow. “I’m back. I-I’m Peter. Peter Quill from Missouri.”
“This isn’t funny. I don’t know how you know about my connection to him-” She started, but Peter was quick to cut her off.
“When you were in kindergarten, you got in trouble for having a pocket of worms. I got in trouble with you because I ate one of them in class. Nastiest taste in the world, but it amused you.” He chuckled, running his fingers over the envelopes. “If that didn’t convince you, I remember the huge crush you had on Mark Hamill after we watched Star Wars. I bullied you for ages about it.”
“Peter..” She whispered, hand coming to cover her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes as she stared at him. “It’s been 35 years, where the fuck have you been?”
Peter stuck the worn pile of envelopes out in front of him. “Funny enough, these probably explain it better than I could. I wrote to you frequently. I’m gonna be completely honest, I wasn't even sure if I was ever coming back. I was convinced I was wasting time, but y’know all the funky shit that happened kinda forced me back.”
(Y/N) took them and flicked through the pile. “I never stopped looking for you. When they said you disappeared, I went looking everywhere we’d gone. I thought you’d just run away, but rumors began that maybe you’d died and I just.. I knew you weren’t dead.” Her eyes met his face and she smiled. “I’ve missed you, dumbass.”
Peter stepped forward, wrapping his arms tightly around her as they stood there in an embrace. “I’m sorry for leaving, and again, you won’t believe this but I’ve got a pretty insane reputation in space.”
The woman pulled away and raised her eyebrow at him. “What? Peter.. You mean outer space right? Like up there?” She asked him, pointing up at the sky. He nodded, a childish grin plastered on his face.
“Ask me about my reputation.”
“I’m afraid to know.” She sighed.
“C’mon.” He cooed, swaying them slightly. “You know you’re curious.”
“What’s your reputation, Peter?”
He looked down at her with his signature smirk. “On Terra, I’m just little old Peter Quill. A boring, apparently presumed dead, nobody. In space, I’m the legendary outlaw turned hero of the galaxy known as Star-Lord, lover to all.” He winked, making (Y/N) roll her eyes.
“Lover to all, huh? How many alien STDs do you have?” She laughed as he groaned. “Do aliens have STDs?”
“I don’t have any that I know of, and I’m assuming they do. I don’t just go around asking aliens if they do or not!” He replied, as his childhood friend doubled over with laughter. “I missed hearing you laugh.”
“I missed you, Peter. It’s nice to have you back, even if it’s temporary.” She huffed, looking up at him. “I don’t know how long you’re staying, if you are, but would you like to have dinner with me? I want a chance to properly catch up with you.”
“Are you asking me on a date?”
“Never in a million years, space boy.” She spoke, stepping aside and motioning him in. “C’mon, I make a mean ass pot of chili and I’m assuming you haven’t had any in ages.”
Peter happily stepped inside, shrugging off his coat and tossing in on the closest chair. He looked around her apartment, the walls covered with photos from her life and movie posters he didn’t recognize. A photo of him and her on Halloween hung beside a framed drawing he’d made for her back before he was abducted.
“Hey, (YN), what the hell is Revenge of the Sith? And why do you have a big ass poster of it?”

Temporary Home : Chapter 28
Guardians of the Galaxy fanfic | Reader x Guardians (With Yondu and Kraglin!)
Summary: You know Peter is going to get revenge, but how??
Previous Chapter here | Next Chapter Here Or click here to: Start From Beginning
Author’s Note: For my records this chapter ends on day 85 of the Guardians living with reader. Enjoy!
Word Count: 4,946
The room was still dark when you woke. Nervous energy, along with the aid of an alarm, helped you wake early so you might get ahead of Peter, catch what prank he'd have inevitably set up for you during the night.
You checked everything- your boots for grease, above doors for water buckets (noting the advice Yondu had given you weeks ago about how those had been Peter's go-to pranks on his ship.) You also checked your toiletries for dye, just in case he'd revisit one of your best pranks to try and finally pull it over on you.
However, you found nothing. This surprised you, but you suspected maybe he wasn't so motivated that he'd sacrifice sleep to get you back. His revenge must be yet to come.
But it didn't.
At least, you hadn't noticed anything by breakfast, nor after. You kept a watchful eye, but there was still nothing by the afternoon. At most he would grin mischievously at you, or repeat the 'I'm watching you' signal from the day before.
Clearly he was waiting for something, or planning his attack carefully.
Regardless, you knew you needed to get out of the house for your own sanity. Should you stay to keep an eye on him? Probably. Would your absence give him the freedom to do whatever he wanted? Most likely, assuming Gamora didn't reign him in to keep him out of trouble- which she likely wouldn't. Still, you knew you needed a breather before your composure betrayed you. Before your anxiety started to crack your calm faćade and it be known how nervous you were over whatever hellfire would be coming your way.
If nothing else, you wouldn't give him the satisfaction of seeing you sweat.
So, you decided today would be the day you finally check the tunnel, starting with the door behind your favorite tree. This would kill two birds with one stone. You could get in a 'nature walk', and once you reached the cellar, maybe you could take a minute to 'listen in' and see if you could possibly hear any plotting of Peter's plan while he thought you were away...
Checking your boots once again before putting them on, you started to get ready to go out, doing your best to be relatively quiet so no one would notice you getting ready and ask to join you, as certain members of the Guardians had been wont to do lately.
Luckily, everyone else seemed to be busy doing their own thing, either watching TV, playing cards, or lounging upstairs, so no one was around to notice you putting on your jacket in the hall, or making your way to the back door in the kitchen.
Just as you were about to leave, however, you stopped. It occurred to you that leaving without a trace was bound to concern some nosy someones, so you quickly grabbed a notepad from a drawer and jotted down a quick, "Went for walk. Be back later." before setting the pad down on the table. Surely one of them would be able to read it, you knew you'd seen at least a couple of them reading the books from the sitting room from time to time. And if anything happened, you knew they had a SHIELD phone, of which you were sure must have your number programmed into it.
Hopefully they would call you first, and not immediately Fury.
On that note, you put an earbud in one ear and left.
The walk through the woods was blissfully uneventful. You'd missed this; the leaves had changed color and had started to fall, leaving the starts of a beautiful orange and red carpet on the forest floor; the call of a rook occasionally breaching the music from your earbud; the smell of crisp autumn air...
Though, as much as you loved this alone, you couldn't help but think maybe you should offer to bring the others out here, like Yondu had suggested way back -on the same night he had insisted on following you out here. However, even before that night, the others seemed wary of venturing into the woods once they found out there were hunters in here, and that apprehension almost certainly would now be worse seeing as they had witnessed the aftermath of one having accidentally shot you...
Yeah, probably not a good idea.
In what felt like no time at all you reached the spot of your favorite tree. You looked up at it's mossy branches and considered taking a moment to just relax beneath it. Couldn't hurt, could it?
That thought was quickly brushed aside for the reality that you had already been pushing this off for weeks for one reason or another. Well, years actually, if you wanted to get technical about it...
Better to just get to it.
You let out a breath and make your way to the backside of the tree, where the old door was hidden under some brush. The plan was to open the door, and (assuming it didn't fall to pieces right there) climb down into the tunnel (assuming the ladder was still in good condition) and, if neither of those warranted immediate repair, make your way through the tunnel and inspect it all the way to the house, making a list of any repairs needed.
Bending over, you sweep the leaves and other brush away from the door to inspect the wear- only to receive quite a shock once said debris was cleared away.
* * *
Back at the house Peter was in his room, busy trying to think of the perfect revenge prank- but he couldn't for the life of him think of anything good. Also, it was hard trying to think of a 'master plan' that you'd 'never see coming' while you were in the same house, likely watching his every move in anticipation.
When he thought about it, what really was left that the two of you hadn't already done to each other? Fake spiders, dye in the soap, innocent food pranks, 'misplaced' items, etc. He was running out of ideas, and any he could think of just didn't seem good enough to compare with the remote prank. It was too good. And sure, he technically hadn't 'proved' it was you- and yes, he had never been able to find whatever you were using to do it- but he still knew it was you. Had to be.
Regardless, back to planning.
He wasn't going to try dye again- that really didn't work out for him last time. And bucket of water in the doorway just seemed like child's play. Sure, he could put jelly or something in your boots, but would that really be satisfying?
Should he consider teaming up with Rocket? He usually had good ideas? Then again, last Peter knew Rocket and you didn't get along so well- which might go well in convincing him to team up- but also he didn't want to risk whatever Rocket would plan winding up injuring you. Yes, he wanted revenge, but not like that.
Peter sighed. Maybe a snack would help- who can think of master plans on an empty stomach anyway? He stood up from lying on his bed and made his way downstairs into the kitchen. He'd just grabbed a bag of nuts from the pantry when he happened to notice a note on the table.
After a quick read his eyes brightened. So you weren't home... Meaning that plotting- or setting up- a prank would be much easier. It actually opened up a lot more possibilities! What possibilities? He wasn't sure yet, but possibilities nonetheless.
'Oho- leaving was a mistake on your part,' he thought. He could almost see your face now, coming home to find whatever prank he set up for you.
Now all he had to do was think of one...
* * *
You looked down in disbelief, unsure if you were really seeing what you were seeing.
How was this possible? Who could have done this? Why had they done this?
You rubbed your eyes, just to be sure, but nope. The sight before you hadn't changed.
Someone, you didn't know who, had completely replaced the tunnel door. The old, weathered wood with the flaking paint that you remembered was now replaced by new wood, freshly painted in a color that matched well with the soil it lay in.
After the shock had mostly worn, you cautiously reach down to pull the door open. It was heavier than you remembered, and you quickly saw the reason for this was that the underside was now re-enforced with an aluminium frame.
This was certainly alarming. Who the hell could have done this?? No one knew this was here?? Other than you, the only other people who knew of this tunnel's existence were long dead. Not even Fury knew this was here, and he knew everything!
A glance down the hole showed that the door was not the only thing messed with. The stairs, while seemingly not in need of repair, looked a bit too clean for something that had supposedly been left alone for years underground. Could some crazy person have come along and just... commandeered your tunnel? Oh- that wouldn't be good at all, considering where it led to.
You quickly threw the door completely open and shined your phone flashlight down the hole, though it didn't really help you see much further than the floor directly below you. So, cautiously, you climbed down.
Once in the tunnel you debated if you should have closed the door behind you, but ultimately decided against it. If there was someone living down here, you might need a quick escape, considering you didn't bother to bring a weapon with you. Closing the door would only slow you down. If everything went well you'd close it on your way back out.
You shone your light down the tunnel, and for the most part it looked more or less how you remembered. Dirt and stone walls with many wood supports lining the entire length. Further in you started to notice that at least one of said supports looked new. This gave you a bad feeling, because the only way that could happen is if someone had been down here. You certainly hadn't been, not for years now.
You continued on, but realized once you came to the door at the other end leading into your cellar that you had found nothing out of place other than two replaced supports. No other signs of life, past or present.
This was truly bizarre. You debated opening up the door/false wall into your cellar closet for a few moments before carefully pulling it open to view the closet door itself, and then carefully opening that as well, doing your best to be as quiet as possible.
You gave the cellar a quick but thorough look-through, already knowing the door to the upstairs was locked from the other side. If anyone was down here they wouldn't have been able to make it into the house without someone knowing.
Finding no one, and nothing disturbed, you quietly made your way back into the tunnel, making sure to completely close the false wall and door leading into it.
You tried and failed to make sense of it as you journeyed back to the other end of the tunnel. No one else knew about this tunnel. You hadn't told anyone, not Fury, not Maria, you didn't even have any living family that knew about it.
Thoughts swirled in your head the entire walk back. Yondu had been the only one you ever brought out to the tree- could he? No. There's no way. Even if he somehow figured it out on his own, there was no way. Surely you'd notice his absence if he went out there, and where would he had gotten the materials from? He didn't seem to have much interest in your workshop at all.
Wait- your workshop... Could... Rocket-? No. That was even more absurd. Would he have been easier to miss tailing you on a walk to find the tunnel? Sure, but you still knew that even if he had, which you were sure he hadn't, you didn't have any aluminium in your shed, and you had doubts he could have pulled the wood out there unnoticed, or without help. He was a raccoon after all. And none of them could just leave to get more materials on their own. So it couldn't have been any of them.
Crawling up out of the tunnel you thought about how Fury found your home despite it supposedly having been kept off the books. He was Fury, and he knew everything. Is it possible that this also included the secret tunnel on your property? They had said he had vetted your property for weeks beforehand.
But he'd never said anything-? Though you supposed that wouldn't be unlike him. And if he did know, why only recently repair it? When you had been out here weeks ago to look at it, it had still been the same old weathered door. This had to have been done after that.
Is it possible he didn't know about it at first? Could he somehow had found out about it later? Or knew from the beginning but only decided to inspect it recently?
You closed the door and re-covered it with brush.
Ok, even if that was true. Why? And How?
Well, for all you knew he had hidden cameras around your property to keep watch while he wasn't there. If that was true- no. No it couldn't be that, could it? Because how would he know to set them up exactly in this area? Surely not even Fury could manage that.
You racked your brain for answers the entire way home, and the concern must have shown on your face as you came through the back door.
"You alright?" Gamora asked from the table, Mantis sitting beside her.
You blinked a moment before answering, undoing your jacket. "Uh, yeah. Just thinking." Clearly, you weren't going to let any of them in on your discovery.
"About Peter's prank?" Mantis asked. "Are you worried?"
You turn to her and raise an eyebrow, before shaking it off. You had been so busy thinking about the tunnel you had actually managed to completely forget about this prank feud with Peter. So shaken up, in fact, that you hadn't even bothered trying to listen in to see what Peter might be plotting while you were in the cellar, as you had entertained doing before you first left the house. Forcing a slight chuckle you ask, "Oh, has he finally figured out what he wants to do?"
Mantis shrugged. "I have no idea. He keeps saying it's a secret."
"Ah," you smile, shaking your head to appear completely unbothered as you left the kitchen to hang up your jacket and remove your boots. In reality, you were honestly a little worried, but you sure as hell weren't going to let any of them know that.
* * *
Over the next couple days no pranks happened, and you got increasingly paranoid.
You did your best not to show it, but it was increasingly difficult considering you had to constantly watch your back for Peter, and you still had the tunnel situation on your mind.
On the fourth day Fury made one of his visits, and you had to admit it was awkward. It didn't help that Maria didn't come with him this time, having been called away on another duty, as that only made this visit longer, which didn't help with your current stress.
For one, you were nervous the entire time that Peter was going to pull his prank while Fury was there- which wouldn't have been good at all. At one point in the visit you even pulled Peter aside and asked him what he was planning, and that he better not do it while Fury was here. He simply grinned in response and said he'd of course be on his best behavior. Little shit.
You didn't trust it, and therefore did your best to keep an eye on him the entire time.
Then there was also the matter of how you suspected Fury had something to do with the tunnel, but you couldn't just ask him because if he hadn't known about it, he would then. The whole visit was you mostly giving Peter side-eye and staring warily at Fury wondering if he knew, how much he knew if he did, and -if he did- did he now suspect that you knew that he knew by your behavior?
If he noticed you looked stressed he didn't mention it. Was that a sign that he knew? Or just a sign that he just did not care whatever antics might be going on because it was clear much of your stress was aimed towards Peter?
Luckily the visit ended soon enough without Peter pulling a prank to embarrass you in front of your boss, which was a relief. However, that didn't stop the paranoia. In fact, when nothing continued to happen well after the visit, combined with the fact that nothing had happened the past few days, it only made the paranoia worse because you knew the shoe was about to drop eventually.
That night you pulled him aside again, once again demanding to know what he had planned, only for Peter to smile and tell you "Oh, you'll know when you see it," and then walk away with a sinister laugh.
You were fucked.
* * *
Once again you woke early, just as you had the past few mornings in an effort to stave off whatever Peter might have planned. Like the other mornings you checked everything in your morning routine to make sure it hadn't been pranked before using it, and like the other mornings nothing had been messed with as far as you could tell.
You made your way down stairs for a quick drink, considering if you might go back to sleep for a bit, when you stepped in something wet in the kitchen.
You groaned and inspected the damage- apparently just a bit of juice. First your tired mind went to thinking Peter finally pranked you, but after only a moment you realized it wasn't a prank. There was an overturned cup on the counter and you realized the actual culprit was likely just Groot having gotten up for a drink during the night again, and being messy with his cup when he was finished, judging by the fact that there had only been a tiny puddle on the floor that you'd stepped in.
At any rate, this still meant you needed a fresh pair of socks, so after tossing your soiled ones into the washer, you set off back to your room to grab some.
However, you couldn't help but notice that all the socks in your dresser were gone when you got there. Instead of being frustrated, you were actually relieved. Peter must have finally pulled his prank.
You could feel the stress leave your body as you exhaled. This was completely mild compared to what you had built it up to be in your head, but you weren't going to argue. That said, you did still need another set of socks. So, not bothering to close the dresser drawer, you leave the room with the intent to search for your missing socks.
However, no sooner had you stepped into the hall did you hear Peter's voice cry out, "YOU!"
He had exited his room a little before you and caught you just as you were leaving your own, but you only looked at him in confusion. Why was he yelling at you like you had just done something to him? Wasn't he was the one who had just pranked you?
You barely had time to react, but knew your three choices were to stay put, move left into a corner, or move right to head downstairs. Naturally, you attempted the third option, but he was on you too fast, quickly grabbing your shoulder to pull you back with a "No you don't!"
Just as quickly he pulled you into a headlock and started going on about "How dare you!" and something about taking his socks.
You started to protest but only managed out a "Hey!" when he then topped the headlock off with a noogie as you attempted to pry his arm from around your neck.
Before you could get another word in he stopped with the noogie and switched to scratching his fingers at your stomach, resulting in you letting out a stream of surprised laughter as he continued on about the unfairness of pranking him yet again when 'he still hadn't gotten you back for the last prank yet!'
You finally managed to speak again, but the most you could manage was a giggly, "Peter! No!" as your senses were overcome with the ticklish feeling.
Despite this, you couldn't help but think that this was definitely a confusing turn of events. You for sure hadn't done anything to him, regardless of what he was on about, and therefore you definitely didn't deserve this punishment. Fortunately this time you didn't have the handicap of two grown men sitting on top of you, so you were able to get out of his grasp easily enough. In no time the tables were turned and soon Peter was pinned beneath you on the floor with his arms behind his back.
You were just about to give him a taste of his own medicine when it actually hit you what he had said, now that you were no longer being tickled senseless. He'd accused you of taking his socks, but you hadn't taken his socks. He had taken yours- hadn't he?
"Hey- quit squirming! Listen- I didn't take your socks! You took mine." you scold as he did his best to try and turn the tables back in his favor.
"No I didn't!" Peter argued, clearly indignant at being accused.
You raised an eyebrow. "This wasn't your prank?"
"No-?" Peter answered, now fighting you less, and with more confusion creeping into his voice. "Wasn't it yours?"
"No." you respond flatly. "Wait- why should I believe you? I thought you were all about plotting a revenge prank on me? Why shouldn't I believe this is part of it?"
Peter stopped struggling now, and seemed a little reluctant to answer. "I uh... well, I was going to, but I couldn't think of one good enough... I was going to just keep stringing you along until I thought of something, and then I just kinda... forgot about it..." He sheepishly chuckled.
"You fecker- you were 'no-prank' pranking me?!" You started pinching his side, making him jolt with startled laughter.
"Wait-wait!" he pleaded, trying to reason through his laughter, "If neither of us pranked, then who took our socks?!"
You halt your torture. He was right- unless this was part of his prank and he was just messing with you, and/or trying to save himself.
Just then, as if on cue, Kraglin came out of his room looking annoyed. "Which one of ya two took my socks?"
You decided then to release Peter, and you both attempted to clear your names as you stood from the floor.
"I didn't touch them," you say, "I woke up and all mine were gone, look at him." You pointed at Peter.
Peter scoffed. "I didn't do it! I told you I didn't do it! Mine are gone too!"
Kraglin rolled his eyes. "I don't care which one of ya did it, but y'all better return my socks now."
Yondu appeared in the doorway behind him and just stood there, staring the two of you down with a glare that clearly said that he wasn't in the mood to mess around. It was easy to assume his socks were missing too, but he didn't feel the need to repeat what Kraglin already said when a decent glare could do the job.
You held up your hands in a placating gesture. "I can't return what I didn't take."
Peter frowned. "Well I can't either!"
Drax now entered the chat. "Mine are also missing. I would like you to return them, Peter."
Mantis now spoke up from behind you, "I can't find mine either, Peter- Why would you take all our socks?"
A strangled noise came from Peter's throat. "Wha- Why do you all assume it was me!" He then started wildly gesturing in your direction as if to say, "She's right here! Why does no one accuse her!??"
Gamora sighed from their doorway. "Because this type of thing is right up your alley.... and I want mine back too."
"Where's Groot?" Rocket asked, moving past Drax to get out of their room. His fur was messed up on one side of his face as if the commotion outside had only just woken him up. He didn't seem interested in the missing socks at all- probably because he didn't wear any.
"I am Groot!" Groot's tiny voice answered from the staircase, causing all the attention to turn to him.
"A fort? Where'd you do that?" Rocket answered, rubbing his eyes as he tried to fully wake up.
"I am Groot." he bounced excitedly. "I am Groot!"
"Can't it wait til after breakfast?"
"I am Groot!" The tree child now seemed to be pleading, like, well, a child. He turned his attention from Rocket to include the rest of you. "I am Groot!"
You couldn't understand him, but you gathered enough context clues from Rocket's responses to get half an idea of what he wanted.
"Sure, buddy. Let's go see." Peter answered, clearly happy for any distraction that took the heat off of him.
To your surprise, everyone else moved to follow- so you did too. Whether it was genuine curiosity or peer pressure that made you do so, you weren't quite sure at this point.
Little Groot lead you all into the sitting room to show you his "fort."
At first you were confused. You expected to see your sofa cushions pulled off and made into makeshift supports for blankets, but you walked in to instead see the sitting room was as clean as it was left the day before.
Then Groot motioned for you all to look behind the sofa, and it cleared up multiple questions from that morning. Firstly, where his 'fort' was. Secondly, you all got to see where all your socks had gone.
Admittedly, his 'fort' was actually kinda impressive, and you found that you weren't even annoyed by the revelation that he had taken everyone's socks to build it. It looked like he had somehow managed to make it two stories, and it even had a wall going about it- all made from twisted together socks and what looked to possibly be some wooden spoons from the kitchen.
"Hey, he's the one who took all our socks!" Drax declared redundantly.
Peter rolled his eyes at him while Groot said, "I am Groot!" indignantly at Drax.
Gamora knelt on the floor to speak to Groot. "Yes, and it's a lovely fort- but you shouldn't take other people's things without asking, ok?"
Groot nodded, almost solemnly. "I am Groot..."
"Yeah buddy, time to give the hummies back their socks. You had your fun." Rocket told him firmly, but followed it up with, "I'll teach you how to build a better one later that doesn't smell like feet."
You wrinkled your nose at that. Hopefully Groot had only taken the clean ones, but just in case you'd probably be throwing yours into the wash once you got them back...
While you waited for Groot to untangle all the socks you and Peter retreated into the hall, both only half-willing to apologize for accusing the other.
"So, um... Guess we could call it a draw? I guess I technically got you back with the 'no-prank' prank. I mean- you did look pretty stressed the last few days." He grinned wide, seeming satisfied with himself.
You weren't about to argue, it was better than worrying about what he had planned, and if he'd execute it in front of your boss. Without admitting to it, however, you reply, "Yeah. Let's call it a draw."
He poked you in the stomach, making you twitch. "Admit it first. Admit I had you stressed and then we'll call the truce." He crossed his arms and grinned at you smugly.
You glared at him, and weighed your options. You could refuse on grounds of pride, and risk him taking it as a declaration of war. Or, you could give in, and save yourself all the trouble that usually came with one of your prank wars.
The answer was made up for you, when you noticed Yondu standing in the doorway behind Peter, clearly having listened in, now staring daggers into both of your souls at any prospect that another prank war might be started when it could be easily avoided at just the cost of your pride.
Concerned that he would find a way to make your life hell, and realizing that he was honestly probably scarier than anything Peter could throw at you, you rolled your eyes and gave Peter an answer.
"Fine. I 'admit it.'" You held out your hand, telling him this time you would shake on it.
Peter grinned and accepted your handshake. Before he left, however, he paused just long enough to whisper some infuriating parting words into your ear, "Told you, I'm the prank master!"
