This just in: The dorks are too broke to afford two darned apples, lol. It's okay, Sooga, they'll pay you back, or at least Impa will.
I hope he's not suggesting they steal some pocket change from Zelda or the King.
What do you think they spend their money on? Noble Pursuits? Frog items and accessories? Hair spray?
---
So hey, I streamed this in the Discord server, from sketch phase to cleaning to coloring, if you're ever interested in watching, do drop by sometime, I'll keep doing this in the future, it's been fun!

Phew! It took me two whole days to do this. But I am incredibly proud of the outcome. However, further Linktober entries are unlikely to be as complex.
So, context: last year, the user @bahbahhh posted an entry where she theorized that the events of AoC are nothing more than a dream of Zelda, or her false memories, which she invented so as not to feel guilty for the dead. I found this theory very interesting, especially as it perfectly explained the happy ending of Age of Calamity, despite the fact that from Breath of the Wild, we learned about the completely different fate of the heroes. But at some point, the princess realized she was only lying to herself...
youtube
The moments shown outside the fragments I plan to describe in my future fanfic "Hyrule Warriors: The Backstories." That’s why Impa doesn’t have one eye here and has a slightly different design.

Oh how DARE (/lh dw) you give me feelings ab the Yiga clan, I already love them enough, I would absolutely love to hear if you have more thoughts ab them and ever want to say!!
*kicks door open with an armful of Yiga Clan thoughts* I GOT YOU.
The Yiga Clan are descendants of Sheikah rune-crafters, who knew how to inscribe runes associated with a certain type of reality manipulation onto different surfaces. The guidance stones you see? Those are their works left remaining. When water collects at the tip of the guidance stone, it collects the effects of the runes before transferring them to the Sheikah Slate. However, the Yiga Clan have learned how to inscribe runes on their paper slips, which activates when the finger runs over the symbol of the inverted Eye. These cards help them with their traveler's guise and teleportation. Additionally, their windcleavers are inscribed with runes associated with wind manipulation, but the effects are dampened due to the rune's deterioration when used in battle repeatedly.
A Yiga's guise cannot work near a statue of Hylia. She unmasks all illusions. This is why not many of them can get into Kakariko Village; they're outed almost instantaneously. When Dorian left the Gerudo Highlands and met his wife, he knew his life was going to change, for better or for worse. He definitely thought worse when he was getting married though, since he was scared his illusion would drop before Hylia. However, the goddess, sensing his change of heart, actually made the illusion permanent. This makes him the first of his kind to be divinely redeemed. When he helps the Yiga again after his wife is killed, the roots of his air are darkened to black as a rebuke from the goddess, but they do not seep any further as she accounts for the fact he only sabotages the tribe for the life of his two children, as well as Impa and Paya. He covers the dark parts of his hair with his amigasa hat.
This next headcanon veers towards OC territory but it's to explain the lore behind Urbosa's hatred for the Yiga. To put it shortly, there was a Yiga woman who had once, while guised, seduced Urbosa's mother. She was deployed in Gerudo Town to acquire the Thunder Helm, with the idea that there were runes inscribed on the helm for electric resistance that could be used to leverage their efforts against the Hylian kingdom. Urbosa, a child at the time, had caught her in the act after a few months of courtship. She was very perceptive for her age, and immediately asked what the Yiga thought she was doing. The Yiga, despite her conflicting emotions, immediately resolved to kill her to avoid having any witnesses. But what she didn't realize was that Urbosa's mother had already seen everything. Swooping in, she shielded Urbosa, deflected the attack, and promptly electrocuted the Yiga. Whether the Yiga lives after the electrocution or not is up to you. I think it's another tragic love story either way! This experience leaves both Gerudo women feeling very, very conflicted and betrayed. For that reason, she calls the Yiga traitors.
Pikango is a Yiga informant. His paper slips are hidden behind the sheet on his canvas, and he uses them to teleport between stables periodically to gather intel about the Sheikah. He frequents the Dueling Peaks Stable out of all of them. What's interesting is that he's the first Yiga member to have been born in Kakariko and return despite the discoloration of his hair. This is why everyone is wary about telling Pikango about the location of the fairy fountain when he returned: most Sheikah who leave Kakariko for good turn out to be Yiga, and certainly none had ever come back before. Purah and Robbie are exceptions for obvious reasons. Pikango's hair is however, mostly white. Why? As I've mentioned before, it takes a while for a Sheikah's hair to turn black since it's based on their faith. I like to think that Pikango is carefully neutral about his opinions regarding Hylia. He helps the Yiga not necessarily as a "fuck you for not letting me have doubts about you" to Hylia, but because they helped him out when he was forced to leave his home. They have definitely tried to recruit him as a footsoldier but he probably admitted that he was not of the fighting type. So they got a different use out of him: spywork. With that deal, Pikango gets to live most of his life just travelling, while keeping an ear open for anything regarding Hyrule Castle, the nearby shrines, or the traveler clad in Hyrulean Blue.

a lot of people have already pointed out how totk has a lot of themes of imperialism and generally leans conservative ideologically, but what i think is interesting is how totk subtly redefines what a “researcher” is.
zelda wants to be a researcher in botw, and what this means in the context of botw is largely someone who works with sheikah technology. she wants to figure out ancient sheikah tech, she has an interest in botany and otherwise nature and biology (the whole silent princess and the frog thing), robbie and purah, the two characters who are the closest to us seeing what a researcher in the context of botw is are basically inventors. in totk, however, the main researchers who are presented to us are all historians.
this is an interesting pivot, because in botw zelda is not really interested in history. if anything, the one who’s deeply concerned with history is rhoam, wanting to preserve historical tradition and his uncritical reliance on said tradition and historical precedent is what leads them to their doom. in botw, zelda is narratively opposed to history, if anything, all the ancient tech backfires on them and traditions fail to awaken zelda’s power. zelda’s urge to be a researcher is in wanting to understand the world around her, not just blindly follow ancient plans but rather have agency within them.
totk, however, is obsessed with ancient plans. the only real moment where zelda gets to geek out in totk is her getting all giddy about finding out more about the divine origins of hyrule. all the researchers in the game are concerned with finding out more about the zonai. since all the mentions of ancient sheikah technology are scrubbed from the game purah and robbie read more as strange outliers, the sheikah slate is no longer, now it’s the purah pad, a product of purah rather than something larger. the whole game is literally about following an ancient plan, a plan most characters don’t fully understand as they sign up for it. totk’s main story is built on confusion, on the characters not knowing what’s fully going on but having faith in ancient sages telling them what to do. in botw, following ancient plans you don’t fully understand was the thing that doomed you. in totk, following ancient plans you don’t fully understand is the gimmick.
that juxtaposition between the two games has an ideological through line: botw posits that progress is necessary. mindlessly relying on tradition doesn’t work. prophecies are omens, not instructions. history must be learnt from, not repeated. the ancient sheikah aren’t a group to be emulated, but rather to be learnt from, considering their machinery backfired and the royal family betrayed them. totk, however, is obsessed with the mythical history of hyrule, a time where everything was idyllic until one bad man showed up, a time we must emulate in order to win. i already talked about how the past in totk is zelda’s life pre calamity but better here, but that also plays into the idolisation of that era and its royalty. in botw, even the myth of the first calamity preserves the fact that the yiga clan has origins in the royal’s family persecution of the sheikah, even the time when they successfully held back the calamity is tinged with mistakes that still affect the world ten thousand years later. in totk, ganondorf’s origins are nebulous. nobody provoked him, nobody did anything wrong, he’s just evil because he is.
a lot of right wing ideologies are hinged on preservation, but more than that: the belief in the nebulous mythical past in which everything was better. “make america great again”, the fascist’s idolisation of ancient rome which is represented largely inaccurately, look at any conservative rhetoric and you’ll see people complaining about how things nowadays are ruined or are being ruined, how in the past things were this way and they’re not anymore, which is bad. the belief in the fact that in some past period we were great and are not anymore, and the strive to emulate that past is a trait highly typical of right wing ideologies. and in totk the past as a great era is an idea presented completely uncritically, the narrative is entirely controlled by the game and doesn’t dwell on any of the inconsistencies in this idea.
now, obviously, not every story in which a great ancient era exists is fascist, right wing or conservative. but to me what’s interesting specifically in totk is this shift between the two games: botw is critical of the past. it’s critical of arrogantly repeating history, it’s critical of having blind faith in great relics of the past. totk isn’t. totk idolizes the past, totk tells legends and tells you to believe them without any doubts. botw believes researchers are those who seek to understand the world, innovate it and solve problems without relying on ancient ways. totk believes researchers are those who discover ancient instructions, ancient ways and relay them to great men in the present to be followed. the four mainline regional quests in botw are about discovering four ancient relics that are terrorising the land and fixing the mistakes of the past. the four mainline regional quests in totk are about discovering four ancient legends are true, and receiving instructions from an ancient sage on what to do.
totk is not simply neutral, it is ideologically conservative in stark contrast to botw, because of the things it chooses to leave uncriticised, notably the things botw was very poignant about examining critically. the way totk redefines what is a researcher is indicative of this, indicative of the way it chooses to idolize or present as an unexamined good that which was nuanced in botw. totk isn’t just conservative in the sense that it presents uncritically a “good king” and “evil conquerer”, it goes deeper, it’s notable because botw was starkly opposed to the thematic axioms totk presents.
i just think it’s very interesting that they made a sequel to botw, and completely redefined or otherwise ignored botw’s thematic core.

LU Star Wars AU: Part 4
This time we got Twilight and Wild!
PART 1 | PART 2 | PART 3
Tumblr media
Wild
Wild doesn't look very old, but he was actually a Jedi Knight in service to the Republic Army back during the Clone Wars. He worked closely with the other Champions at the time; the five of them were on a mission to protect King Rhoam and the royal family of a Mid-rim planet when Order 66 was enacted and the Republic Army turned on them. The other champions were killed, and Wild was nearly fatally injured.
In a last-ditch attempt to save his life, Rhoam and Impa used an industrial carbon-freezer to put him in a state of suspended animation and keep him hidden from any Imperial scanners. He was found and unfrozen many years later by Purah and Robbie, and the hibernation sickness on top of his injuries gave him some degree of amnesia.
0/10 experience, he would not recommend it.
Nowadays, he works closely with Purah and Robbie. Flora, who wasn't even born yet at the time of the incident, met him properly for the first time after he woke up again. They didn't get along at first, but after finding out she was Rhoam's daughter he's determined to stick by her side.
His old lightsaber is broken beyond repair, so he picked up a habit of collecting various weapons. He's also wanted by a group of bounty hunters known as the Yiga.
Tumblr media
Twilight
Twilight is from a backwater planet in the Ordonian system, working as a rancher in a farming village. He met Midna when Zant came to the planet and forcibly tried to take over.
Long story short, the kids of his village went missing, and he ran across some of Zant's forces in a bad way. He actually came in contact with a dark Twili artifact that granted the user the ability to change shape and got stuck. Midna, being a shapeshifting Twili, bailed Twilight out of trouble and taught taught him how to change back, but to do that he had to learn the basics of the Force. (It took a while. He's not very good at it, but he can do the basics.)
In exchange for her help, Twilight helped her with her own goals along the way; eventually, he learns that the reason Zant showed up is because he followed Midna's trail there. With the help of some local Resistance members, they eventually even managed to get rid of Zant.
Somewhere along the way, Twilight and Midna followed a rumor of an old weapon hidden deep in the woods on the planet. Eager for any advantage they could get, Midna insisted they find it; they followed the trail until it eventually led them to an old intact lightsaber that had been deliberately hidden away there.
Midna left very suddenly after everything with Zant was over. Twilight decided to look out for her through his new friends in the Resistance, and eventually came in contact with other members of the Chain that way.

while im on a roll i think we should talk about them exploring the depths together too
- whenever they go on walks together both of them actively keep their distance from chasms
- cue zelda falling flashback
- zelda learns of all the interesting things down there from josha
- “there are statues?? ancient statues?? that we know little of in regards to their origins??”
- josha rambles and zelda intently listens. she’s writing things down on her purah pad
- link had a notebook feature added by robbie, he knew she’d want it for the sky islands at least
- sometimes he scrolls through them when shes at the school and somehow isnt surprised to see 200+ entries
- zelda eventually asks him about the idea of going into the depths. link is vehemently against it initially
- she’s visibly disappointed and he feels bad. he eventually agrees Only if they prepare for it enough
- link takes her to cotera and gets all of her clothes Fully upgraded. then buys her another set of armour and upgrades those too
- he teaches zelda how to swing a sword. she already knows how to fire a bow, so he gives her his strongest (it’s a royal guard’s bow. he’d give her a lynel bow but she isnt as stupidly strong as him)
- buliara decides to make her an ornate shield that’s both strong and pretty to symbolise her finally stepping into the fighting world. some decals are similar to urbosa’s shield. zelda tries not to cry
- link’s built them a diving platform into the chasm so they don’t touch the gloom that’s bleeding out into the world
- he has an absurd amount of sunny and gloom resistant meals. hes not taking any chances at losing her again
- zelda is an explorer and a scholar at heart, keeping the depths from her would be like keeping her from her books. he ignores the anxiety in his stomach and stands beside her on the platform
- “stay by me.” “i promise.”
- zelda’s gotten more used to freefalling now but she still laughs wildly every time. the rush of wind through her hair makes her feel free and alive
- the place is well lit since link went through and Thoroughly activated all the lightroots before he even let her step foot near the chasm
- he holds her hand the entire time and keeps on high alert
- link gives her a thumbs up when she kills her first gaggle of little froxes. she’s grinning and brimming with adrenaline
- she takes pictures of everything, and i mean Everything. the trees, the flora, formations, the skeletons, the lightroots, even the yiga hideouts
- zelda’s frozen in awe when she witnesses farosh gracing the depths with her presence for the first time. she feels a strong need to follow. a friend, a sister.
- link advises against it. he reminds her that neither have anything resistant to electricity and as well meaning as farosh is, she’s difficult to get close to
- zelda loses her MIND at the abandoned mines. link holds her hand to make sure she climbs down safely
- she’s utterly obsessed with zonaite. link breaks a piece for her and she keeps it safe in her pocket. she treats it like a momento of the first time they went into the depths together
- link is on high alert. she accidentally walks too close to a monster mining site and link immediately springs into action. she headshots the bokoblins but link steals the limelight by making quick work of the remaining moblins and one silver bokoblin
- after all this time he still acts like her knight. she doesn’t think he’ll ever stop
- “we need to be more careful of our surroundings.” because goddess forbid he scolds her properly
- they sit and eat some of the food they packed underneath a lightroot. zelda’s obsessed with the surrounding fauna. link’s focused on the way her face glows when she’s excited
- zelda takes her first bit of damage and link takes down the enemy with such fury she’s taken aback
- it’s only a minor wound but it makes his stomach turn and all the worries of losing her again and watching her almost die come flooding back
- she knows that look. she understands. it will be a long time before he fully trusts her to be in potentially dangerous situations
- “link, we can go home if this is becoming too much.” “i.. yes. please.”
- they find another chasm entrance and link is able to conjure up a hot air balloon from nothing. she wonders if she’ll ever stop being surprised by the autobuild feature
- she squeezes his hand as they go up together. he squeezes back
- the sunset is beautiful. they stay in the air for a while, watching the sky bleed from orange to red
- “thank you.. for today.”
- link nods, “we can go down again sometime soon.”
- zelda grins

Lately, I’ve been thinking…
…about Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju after “Age of Calamity”.
The four of them helped save Hyrule. Sidon got the chance to reunite with his beloved sister, while the other three got to meet the heroes they had known only from legends.
But then they returned home, to a Hyrule that hadn’t been saved; where the four Champions, along with countless innocent people, died brutal deaths.
Yunobo, Teba, and Riju had known this before; having grown up hearing stories about the Calamity, and seeing ruins scattered everywhere. But now all those stories and statistics have actual people attached to them. Now they can remember the thriving towns and bustling outposts all those ruins used to be.
Sidon, meanwhile, already remembered the Calamity; and had spent nearly his entire life mourning those who were lost. Reuniting with Mipha helped heal some of his grief, but parting from her again reopened old wounds.
Then there’s the Yiga Clan. Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju got to see Master Kohga as a brave, caring, beloved leader; and the other Yiga as actual people, instead of faceless goons. But now the Yiga are their enemies again, all attempts at peace and healing soundly rejected.
The worst part is, the four can’t talk to anybody about what they went through. The only people who would believe them, and who would understand, are the last people they want to confide in. Link, Zelda, Impa, Purah, and Robbie already feel intense grief and guilt over the events one hundred years prior; and no one wants to make it worse.
Ultimately, the time-traveling Champions only have each other to talk to. But the fact that each lives in a different corner of Hyrule, combined with their respective responsibilities, means that they aren’t able to see each other very often. And on the rare occasions when all four are together, they inevitably have more pressing matters to discuss than their adventure in the past.

Botw/Totk headcanon: Sheikah NPCs beyond Kakariko
after impa being the Last of Her Kind for nearly 20 years, we were kind of spoiled with the era of wilds sheikah. still, kakariko is known for it's older population and botw makes a point to let us know paya isn't used to seeing people her age. this post is about asking 'where are they?' and filling in the gaps. being a peaceful farming village it makes sense the younger gens would want to leave as soon as they can for some adventure.
sheikah typically have hair on the grey-to-white scale (granté proves this isn't a requirement), and unlike the past games they have a greater diversity in eye colour. below is a list of hylian npcs that look too young to have greying hair that i hc are either from kakariko, or have some sheikah ancestry.
Tumblr media
from left to right: lecia, letty, mina, her brother mils by proxy, teli, juney, and baumar. i'll go into more detail about each under the cut, comparing them from the 2 games alongside some more headcanons. some of them i haven't found in totk yet, so i'll edit when i do.
pic on the left side is them in botw, totk on the right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mina is a treasure hunter looking for loot with her brother by the exchange ruins outside the great plateau. the siblings also show up in the dlc. they're trying to steal a sheikah heirloom back from the yiga hideout, though they don't know it's purpose - they just wanna sell it. in totk she walks on the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she says that even treasure hunters deserve some fun once in a while, so we can assume she's takin' it easy. Mils, meanwhile...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...joined the zonai survey team, and moans about what tough work it is. he walks through pagos woods to the zonai ruins. he joined in the hopes it would lead him to treasure, but he hasn't had his lucky break yet. most hylians travel from stable to inn and can be assumed not to have a proper home due to the lasting effects of the calamity. this is my bias but i like to think he's talking about kakariko when he mentions home. let him grow some pumpkins and wrangle cuccos. he wishes to live a quiet life.
i find it sweet him and mina are both in faron. maybe they decided to split up and cover more ground? with mina off sunbathing and sipping mimosas in lurelin, mils got the short end of the stick again.
Tumblr media
Baumar:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
'i hope you die': lazy, cliché, unrealistic. 'i hope your favourite botw npc gets mushroomed and bowlcutted': it's scary, it's possible, it's happening to me right now. such was the fate of our poor resident shield-surfer bro from botw. known for many hit quotes such as 'let's go bamboo! yahoo!', 'shield surfing is like, totally radical, dude', and my favourite:
Tumblr media
in botw he rides his horse on the path between serenne and snowfield stable. in totk he's part of the fashion tour-group that run around hateno village. maybe he went to hebra to show his 'wicked' surfing moves to selmie and she said 'kid, if i let you out on the slopes you'll die. sorry'. his world was completely shattered beneath him like a broken shield, so he turned to cravats and puffy short shorts to cope.
his name is similar to the hills of baumer above deya village ruins. maybe he's a descendent of the few survivors. i wonder what his ancestors are thinking now, watching what he does with the gift of life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Teli walks between fort hateno and hateno village. He sells ancient guardian parts and even mentions he trades them with Robbie. he has a high opinion of himself and tells you he's known across hyrule for his 'roguish good looks.' in totk he's one of the men in the 'Gourmets gone missing' Penn quest that gave himself food-poisoning by riverside stable. after which he scares away some cuccos and makes you wrangle them for a sidequest. just L after L for this dashing rogue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Juney, now famous for her rupee grinding sand seal minigame, i instantly recognised as the epic divorce woman from rito village. her attitude is just as surly as ever but they gave her a soft side. i like that every minigame location could not be further from hateno. you'll find that school someday queen.
she was a newly wed mad at her husband, jogo, for choosing a cold place for their honeymoon. he begs you to give him flint to cook some baked apples for her to save their already failing marriage.
Tumblr media
in totk they're not together, jogo inhabits a cabin in tabantha village ruins with another woman. he didn't give her enough baked apples.
Tumblr media
Letty walks along the path between lakeside stable and lurelin. she gives you cooking tips and that's pretty much it. i'm pretty sure i've met her as a yiga disguise more often than i've seen the real her. if anyone has found her in totk, please let me know.
Tumblr media
Lecia is a new character in totk. she's with the research team and plays a part in the foothill stable Penn quest. she kind of looks like a grown up Koko. maybe a distant relative? but maybe she's not sheikah. maybe the sight of all those pasty naked man nips traumatised her so bad she got marie-antoinette syndrome from the shock. i haven't seen her since.
thank you if you read to the end. to clarify i'm working on some fic stuff and that entails finding npcs across the overworld to give some more lore. it's a sheikah focused fic so i needed some characters other than the kakariko residents. it's also just fun fleshing out random npcs to make the world feel more lived in. again, i'm missing some details like what mina does before you save lurelin, so i'll edit this post in the future.
