I’m gonna be so fucking real with y’all rn.
So I’ve more or less been casually keeping up with Hazbin Hotel since the pilot days. I did some fanart at some point and did a cosplay once, but I currently do not consider myself part of the fandom (certainly not the hatedom bc y’all are kinda ridiculous). But anyway I’ve seen a lot of the criticisms for the show and have seen the episodes (I’ve also seen all the Helluva Boss episodes and this all applies to that show as well). And while I have a handful of criticisms of my own, none of them involve the amount of cursing in it???
Because like…
I do NOT understand why everyone gets so pissy about the cursing. Like maybe it’s because I’m a homestuck fan and that comic curses more than both Hazbin and Helluva probably ever will combined and I see nothing wrong with it? Like cursing isn’t the punchline like some of y’all seem to think it is. That’s just how some people talk and for the LIFE of me I do not see why people are clutching their pearls about it. Like is there some social standard about swearing that I missed? I know some people prefer to not curse and that’s fine and up to personal preference. But like… Growing up on the internet in the 2010’s alone got me so desensitized to profanity that I literally could not care less when someone drops the fuck word.
I curse like a sailor, most of my friends curse like sailors, and even my super religious mom curses like a sailor sometimes. So every time I hear someone complain about it I’m just like… okay??? Get over it??? I understand that there’s a time and a place for the use of certain kinds of language, but you’d think that an adult show targeted for adults about a place where everyone’s an asshole is an appropriate instance for swearing to be allowed.
Sorry if that comes off as harsh or insensitive for some reason. It just really baffles me and I am so genuinely confused about it all. This isn’t even an "oH tHeY’Re iN heLL" thing either. I just don’t understand and low key feel like I’m either going crazy or just really missing something here.

i hope ruby gets a well-that’s-alright-then-style notdeath. on the one hand it will make haters mad because oh no not another companion with an impermanent end (and i like to see haters mad) on the other it would require creativity to depict this in a new way + i love all the implications i love the dark fairytale quality of these companion exits i love my un-undead schrodinger’s women

with the way the legend of ruby sunday is titled… legends aren’t usually told about living people. legends are stories of the bygone past, of an age long since over, fictionalised and overgrown with folklore like barnacles sticking to an abandoned shell. there is such a thing as a living legend, but they’re exceedingly rare. the unmistakeable raven’s call in the 73 yards teaser, the trailer’s cut to fifteen crying alone after promising to cherry he’d protect her daughter… the foreshadowing is clear as day…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yet. there’s one massive HOWEVER. ruby appears in s15: millie’s been spotted on set filming it. which leads me to believe — the doctor isn’t one to take the time travel route and revisit companions that in his future are genuinely dead. that would hurt too much, it would cause unnecessary trauma and could break the timeline. that must mean ruby stays alive in some way. ish. she’s alive and a legend and a mystery. girl-ballad girl-song girl-paradox

here she is, fading out.
p.s.: thesis statement on moffatgirls from the tags i left on somebody else’s post about charley pollard.. well it belongs here since it’s basically the semiotic hurricane swirling around ruby at the moment :)

#on a personal level what interests me about these characters is precisely what gets them labeled as being subject to#misogynistic writing by pop-feminist video-essayists. as an autistic girl* (*ish) however; i find female characters that#aren’t quite ‘normal people’; women who represent an idea or concept or are a puzzle to be solved or a manic pixie dream girl to be#more and in a way far more interesting than a girl-next-door-type universally relatable protagonist#they make for more nuanced stories with more symbolism and more layers of interpretation usually. why should there be realism in a#fantastical narrative? similarly i like characters that are haunting the narrative or dead before it began (big locked tomb fan if you#didn’t know) and like. not to be tvtropes but the lost lenore archetype. dead woman who spurs the hero on to recklessness or revenge.#i identify with that dead girl. the laura palmers of the world. set the story in motion without#necessarily having agency. maybe it’s something to do with my#constant background radiation of passive suicidality. in a fun whimsical way :) i would never kill myself but i don’t want to be a real#person. i want to be objectified but not necessarily in a k*nky s*xual way (that too) in a princess in a tower way#the ultimate femme fantasy innit? there’s something about it. hashtag problematic hashtag conforming to gender roles#10000 tags be upon ye#ruby sunday#millie gibson#doctor who#dw#steven moffat#clara oswald#fifteen#fifteenth doctor#twelveclara#amy pond#charley pollard#river song#donna noble#ncuti gatwa#doctor who meta#jamie.txt#haunting

“We have to…” Remus attempted breathily, leaning his head back against the sofa as Sirius kissed hungrily up his neck. “I know,” Sirius replied huskily, even as he pressed closer against Remus. “Just… let me… and then we’ll stop.” Sirius sucked harshly at the soft skin behind Remus’s ear then licked it softly to calm the sting. His arms tightened and his hips rocked closer at Remus’s groan, as if trying to trap it safe between them. That was a mistake, though, because the feel of Remus’s hard cock under his sent a demanding lick of fire up his body that now refused to lose this battle. “Moony, I can’t…” “Fuck – fuck,” Remus gasped, fingers digging into Sirius as he rolled up against him. “What if we just – we just keep our clothes on, yeah? It doesn’t have to be a thing.” “Pads,” Remus laughed disbelievingly. “You know what I mean,” Sirius said, a little bit of a growl in his voice punctuated with teeth scraping down Remus’s throat. “That it’s not sex as long as we’re not under the covers?” “I just,” groaned Sirius, moving more urgently against him in the search for friction. “It’s a boundary.” “It’s an illusion,” Remus replied, tugging Sirius’s mouth back towards his and licking roughly inside. “Those two things aren’t – mutually exclusive,” Sirius panted. “You think you can seduce me with your careful loopholes again, Pads?” Remus growled, scraping his nails up under his shirt and drawing a wanton hiss from Sirius. “Doesn’t mean anything when you’re friends, it’s just a bit of fun. As long as we keep our clothes on. As long as we’re not under the covers. Fuck, it’s not even gay then.” “I never said that!” Sirius protested indignantly, somewhat ruined by the whine he let out as Remus’s nails dug red lines over his shoulders. “Come on, that’s dumb as shit. At least be fucking – fair – fuck Moony.” Remus chuckled deeply. “You remember how you used to corner me in the classroom? How you couldn’t even wait until we were alone in the dorm?” he asked, sliding his hands down Sirius’s stomach. Sirius keened into him. “You were just so desperate to have my hand on your dick.” Remus palmed his erection and Sirius wailed. “Much like now, hmm?” “Moony, please.” “You still want me? Just as much as you did then?” Remus husked, but his voice cracked just enough to bare the vulnerability underneath. “Yes,” Sirius gasped, grasping at his cheeks to kiss him furiously. If Remus had any doubts left, they must have been blown apart by the howl Sirius let out when those long fingers finally slid over his cock.

Learned about the Egyptian lore about how men (as well as women) were granted period leaves bc since the women would need rest the men would have to do the work women usually do (around the house or in general even)... It was called smth like "on leave - woman bleeding"
And the reason I got reminded of this is bc I've been insanely sick since the last two weeks and just when I started feeling the teeniest bit better (yesterday) I got my period (not much to bleed since I ate barely nothing but I've been feeling faint the moment I sit/stand up) and my mother was fasting the whole day so now she has an insane headache and my father - well aware of both our conditions - has the audacity to tell me to do stuff (help him in the kitchen I'll be honest he's not telling me to grind a mill no but to make dough and then rotis which if anyone knows is fucking tiring esp for me since I fucking hate doing it). I'm so angry that I just went with it. And my mother had to legit tell me to stop for that man to realise I've been deadly sick.
Men do not deserve the position of authority. They simply don't.

the thing that's weird about aftg is that, it is, without a doubt, the biggest mess I have ever read and I could not justify one thing about it, but when I see someone genuinely criticizing it, like genuinely trying to speak about it objectively and rationally I'm automatically like "this is really embarrassing for you please stop. If you don't get it you don't get it but I'm gonna need you to take your lit crit somewhere else thank you very much"

Contrapoints put out a video on Twilight and it is glorious so far. Already talking about how dumb the criticisms of the age gap and abuse in the story are trying to normalize those things are.
I’m definitely going to have to check that out! I love her videos

thinking about how Out of the Woods by Taylor Swift is so firstprince coded like omg
“the rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color”
Tumblr media
“your necklace hanging from my neck”
Tumblr media
“the night we couldn’t quite forget, when we decided, we decided, to move the furniture so we could dance”
Tumblr media
and obviously “are we out of the woods yet, are we out of the woods yet, are we out if the woods yet, are we out of the woods. are we in the clear yet, are we in the clear yet, are we in the clear yet, in the clear yet, good.”

A thing just happened.
This is fandom stuff. No need to worry.
So if anyone who followed my old blog (agedbeaster, 2012-2016) is still around, you know that I am a huge fan of The Mighty Boosh, Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt's beautiful and crazy BBC sitcom.
U2 included a thank you to The Mighty Boosh in the No Line on the Horizon liner notes, but at the time I didn't know what that meant. I only discovered them about a year later when the show turned up on Adult Swim.
I have heard Noel talking about U2, but I have never heard U2 talk about The Mighty Boosh until like 15 minutes ago, when a Twitter friend posted the above clip. What makes it even better is that they were talking about an episode called "The Priest and the Beast," in which (this is really complicated, sorry) a musical duo called the Bongo Brothers (still Noel & Julian but as different characters) hits a creative block and goes wandering through a mystical desert in search of "The New Sound." I have rarely watched this episode without thinking, "Did Bono and Edge watch this one? Did they watch it together? Did they assign each other roles?" Due to reasons.
This clip does not provide a full explanation, but it is GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME and left me with a brief feeling that the universe makes sense. As if a tossed coin had landed briefly on its, uh, edge.
Edge's astronaut talk is nice too.
