[chapter 4 ||| chapter 6]
„Is he going to be okay, Hope?” Jungkook whispered, tears still spilling out of his eyes, as he watched his brothers injured upper body lying on the couch in Hope’s apartment.
Once the trio had arrived there, the girl immediately had taken off Jin’s shirt and tried to medicate his injuries. He had several bruises along his ribcage. Hope palpated over them, and finally came to the decision that luckily, that he had no inner bruises or broken bones.
But his scratched were another thing. Some were already starting to heal, but others were deep and looked infected. The girl carefully cleaned them all up with a wet clothe. Every time the wet fabric made contact with the open flesh, she would feel his muscles twitching under her touch. He must feel so much pain. When she was done, she opened her fits aid kid and covered all the deeper cuts up with fresh bandages, so they would catch other infections.
She soaked the cloth again with water, and drove it over the sleeping boy’s face, whipping off all the dust, sweat and dirt. Beside the scratches and bruises, Jin had a really beautiful face. With his plump lips slightly parted, and his deep brown eyes closed, he truly looked like a sleeping beauty.
“Yes, Kookie.” She sighed, as she threw her dirty cloth away. “He is going to be okay. We will keep an eyes on his injured so they won’t get infected again.”
She stood up from the ground, taking all the used supplied with her into the kitchen, where she disposed them in the trash can. For a short moment, she closed her eyes and leant forward onto the counter edge, trying to process the day.
Who could have told her almost three weeks ago, that her world would turn upside down from one second to another?
Studying law, she had read many cases from abused and misused Hybrids. She had read them back and forth, up and down, trying to imagine their how they must feel. But nothing she had read could compare with reality.
Reality had hit her hard since she had seen the real suffering in this world. In the past, she wanted to stand up for Hybrid law, because she thought that they were disadvantaged in this society. But now, now she wanted to stand up for them, because they were suffering in this society. Suffering from the species that called themselves human.
But right now, she could do nothing but being there for those two Hybrids. She had no other choice. She turned around and wated to go back into the living room, when the scenario she saw made her stop in her tracks.
Jin was still lying peacefully on the couch, his chest was rhythmically falling up and down. Jungkook kneeled in front of the couch, so he could be at the same level as the sleeping boy. His hand was still holding Jin’s, as he had pushed himself further up, with his head buried into the creak of Jin’s neck and shoulder. He was slowly moving and rubbing his head along the sensitive skin, spreading his scent all over his brother.
Among Hybrids, scenting was one of the most intimate ways of showing his affection to one another.
The girl stayed silence in the kitchen, just watching how carefully and lovely Jungkook was threatening his brother. She absolutely didn’t want to ruin that moment between those two.
Tumblr media
Jungkook spent the whole evening running around the apartment, making sure that Jin was okay. He got him some more blankets to cover his shaking body, pillows to make sure that he head was stable, he made him warm tea, that we always ended up drinking himself, because Jin was still sleeping.
It took the girl much to convince him to at least leave the couch and eat dinner with her at the table, but when his stomach growled loudly, he eventually showed insight and left the sofa.
“Jungkook, he is fine. “ He ripped his gaze away from his brother on the couch. “Come on, I bet Jin would want you to eat your food.”
Jungkook sighed loudly, ears hanging weakly at the side of his head. How could he eat peacefully, when he knew that his brother went through hell and back since his escape. If he just had stayed there, with is old owners, Jin would have never been treatened so badly. But he also would have never met Hope.
He looked up from his plate, just to see the girl looking at him worriedly. She seemed to be often concerned about him. He saw the way she would ask him if he was okay, or how she would tell him to eat enough when he said he wasn’t hungry, or how she would cry and try to conform him the night he broke down.
He didn’t mind though. Never, in his life someone had been worried about him. She gave him anything: a bed to sleep, foot to eat and just a place to feel safe and….home. Even though he had only known her for a little more than three weeks, he felt like this was the place where he belonged.
But even though he was happy she allowed him to live with her, there was also this other voice in his mind. The voice that always reminded him that he was only a guest in her house. And every guest had to leave at some point.
A shiver ran down his spine. He feared the day she would come to him and tell him that he and Jin had to leave. Where would they go? Would they have to go back to their old owners?
No, they were not their old owners. They still were their owners. And this meant that they would have to go back to them. He would never lay in his soft bed again. He would never read in his favourite book again, the one with this little daws and Hobbits. He would never look at the photo wall again, wishing that there was a phot of him and the girl, too.
“What is going on in your pretty little head?” Hope had carefully laid her hand on top of his, a small smirk played on her lips. “I can see your mind racing.”
“I just –“ He wanted to tell her his concerns, but he decided against it. Today was not the day he wanted to hear that they had to leave. “I just – thought about that Jin might be hungry. He looks pretty thin.”
“But he is asleep right now.” She squeezed his hands a little bit. “But as soon as he wakes up, he can eat as much as he wants, okay?”
The Hybrid forced out a small smile and nodded his head. He would just try to enjoy the time that he had left.
Tumblr media
After dinner, Jungkook had gone straight back to the couch, curling up beside his brother. Not once this day had done anything else, besides lying next to Jin and waiting for him to wake up. It was cute to watch though. Jungkook had a big heart, and the girl knew that he wished for nothing more than to just get the love back he gave to others.
Earlier, when the witch had told her, that they had given Jungkook up for adoption, Hope had felt a giant stone falling from her heart. She had feared that they would still be looking for him, wanting him back at all it costs.
But with he being free to be adopted, she could sign his papers while re-registering Jin. Even though she had his papers and deed of ownership, she needed to report her adoption to an authority. But she wanted to wait for Jin to fully wake up before she would do so. After all, she didn’t know if he or Jungkook even wanted to be adopted again.
She couldn’t offer them a luxury life. She would first had to make herself a name in the lawyer business, which will take a lot of time, because Hybrid lawyer often don’t get much appreciation. But don’t matter what the both of them will decide, she would have to accept their wishes, even though it would break her heart.
With the bunny Hybrid in her apartment, it was the first time in years that she felt truly happy again. Since her mother had died and her friend moving away for college, she had felt alone in her life. There had been no one to wait for her until she came home from college or work, or someone with whom she could talk at the dinner table.
She truly enjoyed the time with the Hybrid.
She sighed, as she looked over to the sofa, where Jungkook was still curled up next to Jin, reading his favourite book. She smiled when she thought about his fascination with the Hobbits. He had found that book a few weeks ago, while scanning through her book shelf.
He had told her every day what happened in the book, and though she knew the plot of the book back and forth, she listened to everything he told her. Once he had been done with reading through the book, he just read it from the start again, not even thinking about tying another one.
“I think I will go to bed earlier. “ She said, as she made her way over to the sofa, holding a mug with Jungkook’s favourite tea in her hands. “I am pretty tired.”
The bunny looked up from his book. He watched her putting the mug on front of him at the small table, before she took a seat next to him at the sofa.
“Can I – “ Jungkook hesitated for a moment, before he began to speak again. “Can I sleep on the sofa tonight with Jin Hyung. I don’t want to let him alone. What if he wakes up and don’t knows where he is. Or if he –“
“Jungkook.” The girl stopped him, smiling slightly. “Of course you can sleep here. Shall I get your blanket and pillow?”
He quickly nodded, as a small shade of red began to spread over his cheeks. Hope stood up and walked over into his room. Jungkook was a very tidy and organized Hybrid. He made his bed every morning, every piece of clothes in his drawer was exactly folded and stacked up and he even had managed to organize her storage room, the so called ‘Chamber of secrets’, which she had failed to clean up for several years.
(Do you know on which scene from TBBT I am referring to? I love it :D)
She made her way over to the bed, carefully taking the blanket and pillow into her arms, trying to not carry it to close to her body, so her scent wouldn’t be all over it. A smile played on her lips, as she remembered the day when Jungkook insisted on washing Brian’s clothes, because he didn’t like to smell another male on his clothes.
When she turned around to go back to the living room, her eyes caught something on the Hybrid’s desk. Next to desk lamp laid the notebook she gave to Jungkook a few weeks ago. It wasn’t closed like, the open page pointing upwards.
She didn’t want to invite his privacy, but when she saw the sketched lines from the distance, she got curious. She often had wondered whether he was writing or sketching in there, when she watched his hands sliding wildly over the pages.
Hope took a few steps closer, looking back at the door to make sure Jungkook wouldn’t catch her looking at his private things. When she bent over the small back, her heart skipped a beat.
Jungkook had indeed sketched something. The lines were soft and accurate, taking all the space the page could offer. The picture had been drawing from the perspective when sitting at the dining table, the place where the bunny sometimes sat while she worked on her computer.
In the background, she recognized her kitchen, with the white fridge and the small hatch, and in the font ground she saw herself sitting. She was amazed by the precision he had drawn her hair falling over her shoulder and the feature of her face looking concentrated at the laptop in front of her.
Next to the her in the picture, he had written 4 capital letters. The letters were messy and scrawly, but she could read them without problems: 卄口ㄗモ
The girl’s heart swell with love. He had drawn her into his notebook, the place where he kept the deepest thoughts of his mind.
With the proudest smile on her face, she made her way back into the living room. She carefully placed the blanket over and pillow next to Jungkook, before she made her way over to Jin one last time, checking if he was okay.
When she was sure that everything was fine, she made her way over to the front door to turn off the great light in the room. The small lamp next to the TV was now the only source diving the room with cosy and warm light, just enough that Jungkook could still read his book.
“Good night Jungkook. Don’t read too long, you need your sleep.” She walked up behind him and bent down.
With her all braveness bundled, she pressed a short kiss on the top of his fluffy hair, before bending back up. Luckily, the room was dark enough to hide her reddening cheeks, as Jungkook looked up. He closed his small book, laying it to the side.
“Thank you for saving my brother.” He whispered, as he took her hands in his bigger one, squeezing them slightly.
“Anytime.“
Tumblr media
When she woke up the next morning, the flat was unusually quiet. Normally, she was woken up by the dull tones of Jungkook’s boxing gloves hitting his punching bag. He would always wake up before her, already finishing his morning workout. She wondered every day, where he took his motivation from, but she didn’t mind though.
She changed into comfortable clothes, and carefully made her way up into the living room, trying to be as quiet as possible, in cases both Hybrids were still sleeping on the sofa. She tippy-toed through the hallway and peeked around the corner.
Jungkook was sprawled out on his back. He had his legs spread, and he blanket was only covering half his body, making his left leg stick out and hanging loosely off of the sofa. With his arms lying beside his head to either side, and his mouth slightly parted, and ears laying loosely on the sofa, he looked like someone had shot him.
Hope smiled at this scene in front of her, slightly shaking her head. It was nice to see how safe and comfortable he felt around here. She moved her gaze away from the bunny, and looked over to the other Hybrid lying on her couch. To her surprise, her eyes met big, brown orbs looking back at her.
“Good morning, Jin.” She said softly, as she went around the corner.
She tried to make her voice as smooth and warm as possible, showing him that she didn’t want to put any harm on him or Jungkook, after all, he didn’t know how happy Jungkook had been over the last weeks.
Jin, however, didn’t reply. His ears were pressed flat against his head, as he kept looking sceptically at the girl, before his gaze fell onto his naked upper body, that was half covered by a blanket.
“We had to take your shirt of yesterday.” The girl quickly said, knowing exactly what was going on in his head. “You have some pretty infected injures. I just wanted to wrap them up. I hope this was okay?”
He hesitated at first, but eventually nodded as a small shade of red covered his cheeks. He pulled the blanket, that had slide down his torso, up a little bit higher. It was obviously embarrassing for him to lay half naked on her couch.
“I think Jungkook wouldn’t mind borrowing you one of his shirts.” She quickly said. “I will get one for you.”
She turned around and got the shirt from Jungkook’s drawer, before going back and giving it to Jin. He carefully reached out and took the piece of hands out of her hands.
“I will just go and make some breakfast.” She was about to leave, before something came into her mind. “You can try waking up Jungkook. He wouldn’t want to miss eating his flakes.”
She made her way into the kitchen and started to prepare the breakfast as she always did each morning. Sometimes, she would hear some deep voices coming from the living room. Jungkook seemed to be awake by now.
“Kook, is it really safe here?” She heard Jin asking, as she was about to get the milk out of the fridge.
“It is, Hyung. Hope is the nicest girl in the world. She even gave me my own room and…” He kept rambling about the most normal things in the world, which made the girl even sadder. He shouldn’t be this exited to have his own bed to sleep in. She sighed and turned her attention back to the fried egg in the pan, before she heard Jungkook’s cracking voice“…I – I really missed you, Hyung. I thought that – that they – “
“Shh. It’s okay, Kook.” Jin whispered back. “I only wanted you to be safe.”
Hope gulped in the kitchen. She knew how much it hurt to loose someone you love. But she didn’t want to imagine how it must feel to not know if someone you love is dead or barely alive and tortured to death.
She waited another 5 minutes, making sure that she would not interrupt the moment, before she carried the pan into the dining room. Jungkook was just pulling away from hugging Jin , before he stood up and stretched his arms into the air, as well as his ears.
“Did you sleep well, Kookie?” The girl asked amused, as she pulled her chair back and took a seat.
Jungkook helped Jin up from the sofa, and led him the way over to the table by holding his hand. He pulled himself his chair back and sat down as well, gesturing for Jin to sat down, too.
“It’s okay.” The bunny said, as he saw Jin’s hesitation. “You can sit down and eat with us.”
Jin’s eyes flicked from Jungkook over to the girl, waiting for her to give him permission. Hope smiled softly at him, as she placed her mug back down and nodded at the standing boy. Jin hesitated again, before he carefully took a seat beside Jungkook, eyes never left the girl to make sure he didn’t do anything wrong.
“Do you want to try those flakes?” Jungkook held his bowl directly under Jin’s nose.
The older boy was clearly overwhelmed by the whole situation. His ears kept wildly twitching around, as he sniffed at the bowl, looking confused and scared at the same time.
“No.” He whispered, sinking his head down.
“But you must be hungry, Hyung!” Jungkook had placed his bowl back down in front of himself.
He was asking Jin all over again if he wanted to eat something and why he refused to eat something, but Jin just shook his head every time.
“Jungkook, don’t force him to eat something.” Jungkook dropped his ears but nodded, turning his attention to his own bowl, while the girl spoke now into Jin’s direction. “Jin, you don’t have to eat something if you don’t want to, but you are free to eat whenever and whatever you like. You don’t need to ask for my permission either. Just – do what makes you happy.”
Jin looked at her with wide eyes, still trying to figure out if she was serious or not. He nodded shyly, before he looked at the munching bunny next to him. Jungkook smiled with his mouth closed, before reaching over towards his orange juice. He lifted the glass and gestured for Jin to take it.
Jin’s eyes flicked towards the girl once again, but she avoid his gaze on purpose, pretending to be busy with her toast. With the slowest movement, Jin reached out for the glass, taking it out of Jungkook’s hand. He looked at it, before placing it on his lips.
While he drank, his eyes kept flickering between his brother and the girl, watching every movement form both of them closely. After his glass was empty, he carefully sat it back down on the table. Though he kept his gaze down, Hope saw his eyes flickering over to slices of bread lying in the small basket.
“You can take the bread, Jin.” As soon as she spoke his head shot up, as if he was caught doing something bad. “There is more than enough for the three of us.”
Jungkook confirmed her offer with a quick nod, and eventually, Jin reached his hand out to take a slice of bread. Though he refused to put something onto his bread, Hope was glad he eat something after all.
Breakfast went over without any other incidents. Jin kept munching at his bread, while the girl carefully introduced herself, telling him about her life like she did when she met Jungkook. Jin didn’t reply, he nodded from time to time, but stayed silent.
The only time he actually responded, was when she mentored how she had found Jungkook and taken him in. His ears dropped down onto his head.
“Thank you for saving Jungkook.” He had whispered, before bowing his head slightly.
Once they were done eating, Hope told Jungkook to give Jin a small tour while she would do the dishes. The bunny was more than eager to show his older brother everything in the house. He grabbed his hand and pulled him away from the table.
Hope watched with shaking head, as Jungkook dragged the confused boy into his own room, where she could hear him rambling nonstop about every little detail.
She turned her attention back towards the dishes in the sink. Later that say, she would have to call the authority, to make an appointment for re-registering Jin and signing Jungkook’s adopting papers, of course only if both of them will agree.
She didn’t want to bring the topic up this early. Jin had been here for not even one day. It would be hard for him to decide if he wanted to stay or not, and Jungkook would probably make the same decision as his brother, because he didn’t want to be separated from him again.
This meant she would set the appointment in about 1 week. Hopefully, this would be enough time for Jin to at least trust her enough.
“….And this is the photo wall.” She turned around and looked at Jungkook, who was still holding Jin’s hand. “This is my favourite wall of the entire apartment. I look at the photos every morning or when I am bored….”
She watched as she took a step closer, looking interested at the different photos. Hope honestly didn’t know why Jungkook was so fascinated about the photos hanging on the wall. Sometimes, she would watch him how he sat in front of that wall for over 30 minutes, just staring at the photos.
It was adorable thought. The picture surprise for his birthday was a good idea.
“….And this is Hope at her graduation party. Look, she was one of the best students in her year. She is so smart. And this is Hope and her mom at her mom’s birthday. But her mom died a few years ago. Hope is very sad about this, because she said her mom was the best mom in the world. And this are Hope’s friends from High School…..” Jungkook kept rambling about every single picture, talking about them as if they were the most precious things in the world.
Jin was still staring at the pictures, giving Hope the chance to watch his profile. He was as tall as Jungkook, but definitely slimmer than him. He had shaggy brown hair, that fell smoothly over his forehead. At the top of his head set a pair of fluffy, black, brown and white ears, that twitched back and forth.
It was just now, that the girl actually saw Jin’s tail. Since he was a Leopard, his tail was much longer. It reached about the almost the middle of his calves. It was covered with fluffy fur and black stripes all over.
She broke her staring when she noticed Jungkook finishing his monologue, not wanting to make her new guest uncomfortable.
“Hope!” Jungkook came running up excitingly at the girl when he saw her standing in the doorway of the kitchen. Where did this boy take his energy from all the time? “Jin-Hyung likes my room very much. I thought that he might can share my room with me?”
Hope wasn’t surprise by this question. She could tell that both of them were really close, even if she hadn’t known both for long.
“I – ehm – I can also sleep on the fl – “ Jin’s cheeks were covered in red, as he stuttered about sleeping on the floor.
“It’s okay, Jin.” The girl quickly interrupted him. “You can sleep wherever you want to sleep. If you want to share a room with Jungkook, that’s fine by me. There are also 2 more empty bedrooms, so if you change your mind, you can also sleep in there. It’s your choice.”
“Please, share a room with me, yeah?” Jungkook was squeezing and tugging Jin’s hand, begging him to sleep in his room.
“Okay, I – I will share.”

“How about a collage, you like making collages, it could distract you.”
“I have made collages.” Mal replied as you came up to the Acorn tattoo parlor, “I doubt I could find enough collages to distract me.”
“Have you picked your clothes yet?” That snapped her eyes open wider and you said, “I found the major snag didn’t I?”
“I haven’t picked my clothes!”
“Please don’t freak out, just go simple, pants, blouse or a nice sweater. You could wear those heels you’ve been dying to wear with the bows on the top those look pretty professional. Just please don’t freak out.”
“I have that pink blouse and that tie up cardigan, I have some black skinny jeans, all my trousers are torn or missing buttons. My skirts are all a bit too, frisky, I have that pencil one but it’s got that zipper in the back that tends to scoot up and I wouldn’t want to flash anything.”
“You know you could use a safety pin to stop that, or a broach facing in.” She blinked looking at you and you said, “Tip for another time. I agree, not the best choice for now. You will be wonderful.”
When you parked she huffed and said, “I got to go tear through my closet. Thank you for reminding me.”
“Try to sleep too.” You called out as she darted out of the car and into the shop making you shake your head and look to your mirrors for a good time to turn around. Once you did however your mind instantly switched to how Thorin and Dwalin were taking to your gift. “Hope the Cuddle Monster wasn’t too much…” You murmured to yourself turning into the lot where you parked in the spot designated for you glancing out at the slowly breaking storm.
Parked and hurrying inside you barely got damp on your trot inside through the propped open door. Expecting to hear some excitement only to find Dwalin grinning at you like crazy, “Meal and tea is waiting for you.” Gesturing you inside the office lit by lanterns, hurrying off he went to join Balin in spectating as you saw Thorin starting to grin wider on his way to join you.
Stepping inside you brushed your bangs behind your ear setting your bag down to shrug out of your coat that was draped over the back of the chair and turned to realize you were in your matching sweaters. “Show went well, what I heard of it. Faded in and out a bit.”
“Yes, the twins have a hard copy to upload for the show, Mal said it wasn’t as bad as I assume dialog usually is taken. You look happy, good shift?”
Closing the distance once the door was shut he replied, “Very good shift, got your delivery.” Now he was smiling, “I can’t wait for our date on Saturday.” Cupping your cheek his lips planted on your other cheek and he lowered his hand to claim yours smiling brightly again, “Booked a table at Dushin-Mizim for after,”
“I doubt I could have even gotten a job there, let alone a table.”
“They would have been lucky to have hired you, for now I wanted the best for our first date, and we have a driver so we can just relax and focus on having a great time. What even had you thinking of Clustered Anchors? Have you seen it?”
“Well, I heard you and Dwalin talking about it, that you haven’t seen it. I’ve seen the film, which everyone says is nothing like the play. You really want to go with me? I know you said you wanted Dwalin to take you.”
“No!” he said and your brow inched up, “I want to go with you! I would love to go with you, Dwalin is merely my show buddy. Never liked going to films or anything alone really, part of our clan tradition, always partner up. Since courting Bilbo my partner has been spotty. But this is a fantastic idea for a date I do hope you enjoy it, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it sooner, it’s a perfect idea.” He wet his lips and said, “Come, eat, warm up storm is pretty bad.”
“It was worse.” You said to his thumb stroking across the back of your hand guiding you to the couch. Releasing your hand he watched you snap a picture of the tea as he unpacked the lunch trays, “I checked in with the greenhouse, Roac and Dot are on another round.”
“How is Darling doing?”
“Good, great really, she gave me permission to come close to her dwelling, let me weigh her. By my math at least four eggs, and she let me check her feet.”
“That’s incredible, glad the bonding is going well.”
“Also found out from Roac it was my place to tell her about his flock sending tokens,”
Thorin nodded as you took a sip of your tea, “Yes, those should be sent over by this weekend,” his hand settling on your leg. The conversation bled into more on what shows you had both seen with his focus shifting to taking hold of both your hands when the food was through to hear about Elven shows you had seen growing up. Cuddled up close he couldn’t take his eyes off you listening to all you could share until you said in your last few minutes, “So, I think I broke Ori and Shari.”
He smirked, humming back, “Compliments?”
You nodded, “Compliments.”
“Yes, they are two of the least susceptible to compliments out of their clans. Should be fine tomorrow. They are getting better with it.”
“I can relate to that.”
Your alarm went off and he said, “I will let you get to work, Dwalin has decided to help me find a suit for the night.” Again he was kissing your cheek and he helped you to your feet and into your jacket, showing you to the door as you shouldered your bag. Releasing your hand only at the back door, “Drive safe. Don’t worry about a thing our date is going to be fantastic.”
After a nod without being able to finding anything else to say you replied, “You drive safe too.” He nodded and you turned to head back to the car at the groaning of the women watching from over the counter who got to asking questions for the little bit of time him and his cousins waited for the next shift to arrive then piled together to go take Thorin suit shopping.
.

With a pair of suits in his hand Thorin said, “She thought I might want to take Dwalin instead.”
The brothers asked, “What?”
Thorin, “She heard us yesterday,”
Dwalin shook his head, “No, I can text her if you like.”
Thorin shook his head, “No, I clarified we go out in partners and that I have been adjusting to you having Bilbo now. I assured that I wanted it to be our date and that we have a driver and a nice table. In fact she made a comment she didn’t even think she could get hired there let alone eat there.”
Balin, “Surely things have changed, quite a reputation on her own already. Any thoughts on what you wanted?”
Thorin sighed, “I have a few suits already but those are more business related and I didn’t just want to pull something off the hanger. Or just another blue suit.”
Balin, “Silver perhaps? Have you stolen a glimpse in her closet? To have a clue of what to wear?”
Thorin replied, “No dresses beyond the one from the festival and a couple summery ones. All pastel, might choose something similar. I would want to match, but not match.”
Dwalin, “Complimentary,”
Thorin, “Yes.”
Balin, “Perhaps charcoal then? Maybe pinstripes?”
Thorin, “Maybe checkered? She likes flannel.”
Dwalin, “Yes, Bilbo likes my checkered suit. They go over well when done subtly.”
Balin turned to another rack, “Aha, a contender,” causing the pair to watch him pull off a suit from the rack they put down their options to come inspect.

On your way in sight of Tili and Vili together with wide grins had you flashing one in return passing the glass conference room they were in matching the one that Dis gave you through another hallway on her way to an office. Turning forward you mentally muttered, ‘Definitely up to something.’ Once changed you got to work and nothing seemed to be amiss until you were exiting your last room hearing the freshly arrived kids being nestled into the bed you had just turned down for them by their parents with Dis on the other side of it. Grinning up at her you said, “Hi.”
Her smile split wider and she replied, “Hello, you are early again.”
“Yes, I tend to do that when I get distracted, somehow.” Making her chuckle and join you back to the workers lift, “Busy day?”
“Your comment a while back on the growling light up lion key chains we actually have found a company able to make them for us for a fair price and I think they are quite adorable.”
“Oh, that’s, cool.”
She chuckled saying, “I know you are fighting not to say we didn’t have to but it really is a great idea we had completely overlooked. We have the spinning logo ones but these are adorable for children especially.”
“I am trying to not say that people don’t have to. I am working on that.”
“You are doing wonderful so far, and,” once the doors closed she added, “I do have to say I cannot wait to read your book. Gorgo says it’s over halfway through printing enough to sell, and we listened to the recording of your show since it was spotty-,”
“I know, usually it’s fine in the storms.”
Dis, “We did hear they were working on lines near the radio towers, irritating but at least it was recorded as well. Ori and Shari shared you are onto dialog already for the commercial?”
“Yes, we don’t have the details to fill in the banner for when it’s to be put out yet, I am waiting on that, but at least we can send that over to play for them showing them a hint of what was playing in my mind for possible promotion. I know books aren’t really hyped up this way but I figure online it could just blow up and reach so many more people.”
“Absolutely, which is something that with a pen name publishing could change everything since there wouldn’t be book tours. And it could be easier as you could have a collection to sign then send out to people instead. We would do what we could to ensure that your privacy would be protected as long as possible. Plus with our clan alone already buzzing about the radio show there will be thousands minimum interested in reading it. Anything with Founding Fathers sells like hot cakes, good or bad, especially with Dwarves and the banter on the show appeals to Hobbits greatly.” She paused a moment asking, “Would you be needing time off if they would want an audio book version of it?”
“Oh, actually, I already recorded it,” the doors opened as her brows lifted up, “Before Mal I didn’t really have friends to do things with, so I stayed at home and worked. The first two are recorded already, I was working on the third, that’s why when the show started I could just jump in. Just been practicing on it my own, building that whole way of sharing it. Because it isn’t from the same point of view, or even voice so it wouldn’t be so obvious who was doing it.”
Tumblr media
Dis stepped out with you as you smiled at Tili waiting there who said, “Hello, I see Dis managed to find you first.”
Glancing between the pair you saw Dis say, “I merely shared the news on our key chains and that we listened to the recorded version of the show.”
Tili, “Oh good, then I haven’t missed the fun part.”
“Fun part?” You asked.
And Tili replied, “We were wondering if you had decided on Saturday yet.”
“Oh, I was, you’ve been to the theater before, no doubt you’ve heard from Thorin already about the tickets, but, what do you wear to that. Last time I went to a play I was a child and there is no chance of fitting into that dress.” Making them both chuckle.
The pair looked to one another and Tili said, “Tomorrow is no good,”
Dis nodded, “And we have that conference call Friday,”
Tili, “Saturday is good, morning?”
Dis nodded saying to you in the common tongue again, “Saturday morning we could get the gals together and help you shop.”
“That would be so helpful, because I got nothing. I mean I have one sequin mini, but I don’t think that would, fit the event.”
Tili, “We have been aching to have another get together with you, and it would be so good to help you get ready for the first official outing.”
Dis, “Are you nervous?”
“No, honestly I’m more nervous about tomorrow than anything,” their brows inched up and you said, “I don’t know if the boys told you that Mal has an interview for an internship this summer in Grey Havens and Lindon with a Shark Research Reserve and Rescue that turns out to be one my step dad’s twin brother runs.”
They both said, “Oh,”
And you nodded, “And she gave my address for the interview and I haven’t heard from my family because he likes to keep the process private, but it would be very good to see him again. And I don’t mean I’m not excited for Saturday-,”
They shook their heads and Tili said, “No we understand fully, your clan is so far away for so long. I schooled in the Blue Mountains so when my family came nearby I wasn’t able to keep on my seat for days beforehand, just buzzing.”
Walking with you they shared options of what they had worn to shows before and offering at a glance at your feet Dis said, “And do not worry we will ensure you have some incredible shoes for you.”
“I shouldn’t be trusted picking shoes.” You said parking the cart and facing them you said, “I have a pair from my friends who do my hair, this really nice black pair of glittery heels, worth about five months rent. Plus I have my heels from the festival still.”
Tili, “Well if you choose something not matching those we will find you a lovely pair of heels.”
“Thing is I don’t pick the lovely pair, the ones I usually want are crazy expensive.”
Dis chuckled saying in a side hug she claimed, “Don’t we all.”
Tili, “I know Mili bought a brand new car of a pair when she got cleared to make her own funds. Took her a step back for Adad, Amad however understood and helped her fix things when it turned out to be for her graduation and then loaned them to a cousin for their wedding, and four more after that.”
Making you giggle, “As long as you split it by wearers and their events it’s a fair deal.”
Tili, “Exactly.” Claiming a hug of her own.
Dis grinned saying, “We will let you change and contact the gals and text you the time. I will keep my ears peeled for word on the interview from the boys, that would be so incredible for her.”
“Yes, I think I calmed her down a tad and distracted her by reminding her she needed to pick her clothes for it, apparently like me for my first interview for my Masters degrees planned on going naked. So hopefully she won’t be panicked and end up almost going in a ball gown like me.”
Dis, “Even interviewing here, I almost went in a poofy gown myself.”
Tili asked, “You have Masters degrees?”
You nodded, “Five in engineering, there’s different divisions in Elven territories. But when I moved I chose to switch paths to not have to refer to those in my old name so they couldn’t be traced.”
Tili, “Do you miss it?”
“Um, not really. And it really isn’t unused qualifications because in the shows and stuff like that I actually know how to make things work for flying contraptions or gadgets. And I am very handy at home, even though I do prefer to hire builders just so other people won’t question stability and all that. It does stun people, I mean I work here and at the station but I don’t feel like I am settling or that being a maid is somehow beneath me, please don’t think I think that.”
Dis shook her head patting your arm, “Absolutely not, we were just wondering about it. Because we heard you were an engineer in the service and maybe assumed I guess that you had decided not to continue that after retiring.”
“That is part of it, plus with me this size no company for ships will hire someone my size for the jobs I was given in the service because there was shortages on qualified soldiers for the job. I mean I could work on designing toys or music boxes or something like that but it doesn’t pay very well or offer stability.”
Tili, “I get that, fully, several Durins were engineers and mechanics in the service, and I was a pilot but I doubt I would ever try to go commercial. It just got too heavy for me after I got out. No judgment on that at all, even miss explosives over here is way off her former task.”
You looked at Dis who grinned saying, “I am not at liberty to discuss my role, merely that it involved explosives.”
“Been there.”
Tili chuckled and said, “Let’s not hold you up, no doubt Thorin will be eager to have breakfast and discuss your plans some more.” She claimed Dis’ hand guiding her away and waved, “Goodnight.”
You giggled saying, “Goodnight.”
.
“Let’s go,” the ladies changing behind you all grouped up on their agreed path to get some late night meal at a diner nearby, wishing you well on their way out. With your leg propped up on the bench in front of you your fingers managed to tie your sneakers and up you stood shouldering your bag to head out to the garage.
Some more painting and repairs had you following the pathway mentioned in the afternoon meeting. Halfway lost to your thoughts the body stepping into your path was almost missed and in a step to your right to try and walk behind them had the Dwarf stepping back to block you. The move signaled a manager inside an office abandoning his meeting to try and diffuse the annoying game the man might be trying to play on you.
“Can I help you?” You asked shifting your hand on the strap of your bag.
“I just have a few questions,” in his palm you saw the notepad he read from, “I wanted to ask your show just got picked up by Bombadil Streaming Network, and the biggest question going around is why the hell it was cancelled in the first place. Now I’ve done some digging, and the only answer I can come up with is your family.”
“I have to go,” you said shifting on your feet only for his hand to extend.
“Look, my Lady,”
“I am not your Lady.”
“Listen, some may be fooled with your hair dye, name and career change but it’s there in black and white, not to mention purple. Lady Glawar Vingilótë Moe, daughter of now deceased Lord Luvailin Himring, Son of Mórilanta. Everyone’s read the story on those letters and some news outlets might not be so keen on holding that information to themselves and skip out on a juicy story.” He paused a moment and sighed, “The piece isn’t on them, it’s on the show and the gap between that and the Bunny Show.”
He said glancing at the approaching manager who said, “Sir, you’re going to have to leave.”
The reporter said, “Was your family behind the cancellations, can you tell me that? NDA’s dissolve after the other party is dead. You got the money, the property and ditched the name why not talk now? Tell your side. Do the Durins know at least?”
“I was sent to Ruun because of them. For 800 years since, anytime I had something profitable I would get a call with their clan demanding their 75% share. I would turn them down and the next day or even the next week, red tape galore. Luvailin sent my half brother to kill me, he got executed and I got drug through the press so he could make sure everyone knew my face. Since then one of my apartments was burned to the ground with me in it because of who my father was.” His lips parted, “The names in the tributes on that show are my neighbors hurt or dead from that fire. Yes, the Durins know, so do the Findis, they’ve been kind enough to name me by my Naneth’s clan. Each and every Dwarf company I applied to did a background search that got flagged from it. That name is poison, be careful when digging through my family tree, because I’m not the only bastard whose been attacked because of it.”
The Manager at your side now stepped between you saying, “Out, now,”
The reporter nodded saying to you with a pained look in his eye at your unrealized truth, “Thank you,” and walked with the manger leading him out of the guest entrance while you continued on catching him mouthing your words that surely he would write down making you shake your head once you rounded the corner. The manager however scolded him on bothering employees of the hotel and turned once a pair of guards finished escorting him out allowing the manager to head back to his meeting.
“You okay, Miss Pear?”
Turning around you nodded to another manager, “Ya, he’s just trying to figure out why my show on Bombadil got canceled. Not the best approach for it but it’s just about the show. A lot of people have been asking.”
“We can have security walk you out now if you like?”
You shook your head, “No, it’s okay, might just start up a social page or something for questions. Since this is one of the few places people know I’ll be. Maybe it would help.”
The manager smirks and nods, “I’ll let the people in the lobby know all the same for shift turnovers. Have to keep an eye out for our expecting Dams all the same.” You nodded and he said, “Good night. And we loved the show from this morning.”
Making you giggle and say, “Thank you. Goodnight.” Turning around as he did you walked the rest of the way to the garage hearing echoes of the radio calls from the security team who made another lap in the garage nodding to you passing you by along with the few others who rode the elevator with you.
.
Parked inside your garage you stood outside your car with your bag in hand simply sighing in a stroke of your hand over your forehead trying to think of what to do. You had your Bunny account but you supposed it wouldn’t hurt to have one for just you. Mafioso’s was on a picture app while Bunny’s mainly was for text, easily able to have a second there people could message you at. Inside an awkward squawking froze you in place a moment before you eased in removing your shoes left by the door you locked. Right to the kitchen you found Thorin who had music playing from his phone trying to distract himself from the noise coming from the greenhouse.
“That Roac and Dot?”
Turning around Thorin replied, “Yes. It’s not often, just, twice before bed.”
“Not often at all.”
Thorin wet his lips and said, “Got a message from Vili, about the hotel double checking security, something about a reporter?”
“Ya, it wasn’t bad. Just wanted to know why my show got cancelled.”
“That it?”
Your head tilted to the side, “He knew my old name. Asked if you all knew.” That had Thorin inhaling. “If he prints my name or not-,”
“We aren’t abandoning you. You aren’t them.”
“I know, I told them you gave me a chance by Naneth’s clan, not his. Gave him a good idea that they made it impossible to keep my name, or do anything to draw attention to myself and stay safe.” Moving closer his hand rested on your arm starting to smooth down it making you say, “If the full story gets out it does, if he buries it he buries it. I’m tired of hiding it. I just hope it won’t end badly for your family.”
Trying for a comforting smile he hummed back, “We are family, here to protect you. There are so many Durins and Findis here for you and your clan. And the Elders know, we won’t stand slander, not for you or any of your relatives.”
“I did have a thought, maybe having another social page people can send questions to, might keep people from ambushing me. Thought I’d run it by you if you thought it might work?”
Thorin, “Frerin tried that. It was a bit much, though we can send an email to our uncle, Fundin, Balin and Dwalin’s Adad, he started a web page, fan page really, that way it is more organized.”
You nodded saying, “Sounds better than having my phone blowing up nonstop.”
Thorin nodded, “I’ll message him tomorrow morning and get a list of what we might need for it. Might help with the letters as well, a duffel bag a week is a lot.”
“Oh, that reminds me, I have to put these in envelopes.” You said pulling out a stack of replies for schools, “I don’t think I have enough, I think I have three, maybe…”
He smirked saying, “I will get you more envelopes, and stamps, Gran heard about your letters and she sent a box of stamps. All coated in bunnies if you can believe it.” Making you giggle and join him at the table.
“How big a box we talking?”
“You could probably fit a head in it. I do mean sheets. It is absurdly heavy. I don’t know how much she spent-,”
“It sounds so expensive.”
“But apparently there’s a relative who designs the stamps and has a company and was hoping that if you used the stamps people might use their shop more.”
“Oh, so it’s like an endorsement?”
“In a way. There’s no contract, so far, if you were interested, merely, he had a twenty five pound box of bunny stamps he forwarded to you.” Again you giggled and he said, “But, it helps family.”
“What’s the company?” Thorin smirked seeing you pull out your phone opening your Bunny social page still racking up comments and notices of tags. Hitting the new post icon your notices seemed to freeze as people could see a triple dot icon by your username seeing that you were writing something.
“Gultalut Guises.” Leaning in he peered over your shoulder smirking at the message you drafted up.
‘Thanks to your lovely letters down at the station for me the Company and I, aloud I can admit I have never used this many stamps in my life. And quite eagerly can share I have a Stamp guy, Gultalut Guises, to add to my list of allies to keep you all up to date on the latest. Keep your eyes peeled, surprise, they have bunnies!’
Thorin chuckled as you nipped your lip and hit send starting a ricochet of responses saying they were looking them up now. “That is amazing, how many followers do you have?”
“1.5 million?” tapping the screen you found your info page and you said, “1.2, apparently my message on toast earlier did not go over well.”
“If they weren’t going to offer a contract they would be foolish not to now. One million potential customers.”
“Technically, I have stamps. An absurd amount of stamps I didn’t even ask for. I think we’re even.”
Thorin chuckled lowly saying, “I don’t think they will see it that way.”
“Well if they don’t like it, tough. What they get for sending me 25 pounds of stamps.”
Thorin hummed saying, “Who knows, maybe another relative has an envelope company.”
“You know, I have always wanted one of those wax stamp things. It is highly illogical with having to send out hundreds of letters,”
Thorin aimed a finger on the hand holding his fork, “That we can help with, Gloin’s Ada is a sculptor, he would jump at the chance, always replaces ours when we misplace them.”
“You have one?” You asked with a smirk.
“Yes, for official clan letters. It would also be used for our official engagement statement. In truth you would require one then anyways. We could get him on it early. He has been hinting at the tradition.”
“That would be very nice of him.”
Thorin chuckled, “More than nice, no longer a request but a demand on his part.”
A phone call parted you once dinner was cleared up, off to bed you went and curled up in bed once changed into a pair of shorts, keeping your sweater and socks on. Thorin however still in his sweats, shirtless took the call from Vili confirming you’d made it home and were well fed and off to bed, returning to his own when his freshly home brother in law and sister had hung up glad to be certain you weren’t upset.

Of Being Goosed And Peppered
I must have dozed off sometime in the night because Thorin was shaking me awake.     "Come on Kili, get up," He hissed. I peeled my eyes open and looked up at Thorin. "You and Fili need to get some ponies. Breakfast will be waiting for you when you get back." I sat up and slid my feet into my boots. As I strapped my sword to my belt I walked out into the main part of the hobbit hole. Fili was up already and was hiding all his weapons again. Bombur was in the kitchen, making breakfast, and Thorin was at the table penning something. Dawn was creeping over the horizon, revealing how late we slept in. Fili finished and smirked at me. I opened the large round door and stepped out into the cold spring air. Dew was making everything we stepped on slick. Fili actually landed in one of Bilbo's flowerbeds, smashing all of his petunias. I pulled him out of the dirt and we ran out of his yard.
"Do you think the hobbit will come," Fili asked.     "Maybe... He would need a good shove out the door though!" Fili smirked and looked sideways at me.     "We could give him that shove..."     "Nah, besides, Thorin wants to leave pretty soon. Any idea who we could get sixteen ponies from?" Fili shook his head.     "Not a clue. Why don't you ask that lass over there," He said, pointing to a fairly good looking hobbit lass letting out her family's chickens for the day. I stopped dead in my tracks and stared at her.     "Why can't you," I asked, shoving Fili towards her gate. He turned around, grabbed my arm, and held me in a chicken wing.     "Because you look less threatening." Fili shoved me through the gate and I thankfully didn't land in her flowers. She looked up from her task and smiled.     "Terribly sorry mum," I said, getting up and brushing myself off. I glared a dagger or two at Fili, who was smirking at me behind the gate. "I'm new to the area and I was wondering if you could tell me where I might be able to acquire some ponies." The lass set down her pail and set her hands on her hips.     "I might," She said.     "Where might that be," I asked, taking a step forward.     "Stop right there you rascal," Someone said from the hill- I mean hobbit hole. A rather large hobbit was staring at me, a shovel held in his hands offensively. "You take another step towards me daugh'er, and you'll get what's comin' towards ya!" I took a step towards him as I explained.     "I was just asking where I might find-"     "One more step and I'm calling Goosey," He yelled threateningly. I looked at him, confused.     "Goosey," I asked. "Who's that?" The hobbit frowned and took a deep breath.     "GOOSEY," He yelled. "COME HERE, I HAVES A TREAT FORS YA!!!" Something honked on top of the hill by the tree. A goose raised it's pure white head, a huge orange knob on it's head inbetween it's eyes bobbed in the pre dawn light. It stood up and looked right at me.     "Run KILI," Fili yelled from by the gate. I tripped over the grass I was standing on and fell on my rear again, but that didn't keep me from scrabbling backwards still. The pure white goose was running down the hill, it's wings flapping like mad, honking like mad too. I rolled over and jumped to my feet.     "Oh no ya don't," The hobbit yelled. He was in between myself and the gate. "Goosey's gonna have herself a snackie! That 'ill teach you to mess with me daugh'er! GET 'IM GOOSEY!" I rolled out of the way as the goose lunged towards me. It rolled into the hobbit's legs and righted it's self as I dashed over the hobbit's garden, making sure not to step on any plants. If there's one thing that a hobbit protects more then their daughter, it's their daisies. The goose was right behind me when I made the last effort to escape the garden of terror. I jumped over the fence and rolled to a stop on the path outside of the garden. The goose slid to a halt and honked one more time at me. The hobbit sniffed at me, turned to his daughter and lead her inside.     "That went well," Fili said. I looked towards the sky and saw his bright face, trying in vain to hide a big grin. I elbowed his foot and got myself up as he held his 'injured' foot.     "Quit being such a baby," I said as I brushed myself off. My stomach roared as I belched, Fili burst into a round of laughing.     "Let's get back to the hobbit hole," Fili said, punching my shoulder as he ran past. He turned around and bounced backwards. "Maybe Thorin made a decent meal for once!" I chuckled and followed Fili back to Bilbo's abode. We went inside to find everyone else awake, everyone but Bilbo, who was on the couch sound asleep.     "Did you find the ponies," Thorin asked as we sat down. I glanced at Fili and shoved some bread into my mouth. Neither of us had to answer.     "I bought sixteen ponies yesterday Thorin," Gandalf said from his normal spot on the wall. Thorin came into view with two large platters of food and set them down in front of Fili and I.     "You mean I had to get maimed by that goose for nothing," I hollered. Everyone cracked up, and even Thorin gave a little smirk. I tossed a thumb back at the hobbit snoring softly on the couch. "What are we going to do about him," I asked.     "I will stay behind and urge him one last time," Gandalf said before Thorin could say what he was going to. He growled and sunk into a chair. What ever his idea was, it must have been good!
"Welcome aboard, Master Hobbit," Balin said. Bilbo shifted uncomfortably next to the pony Balin was riding. Thorin turned back around in his saddle.     "Get him a pony," He shouted. Bilbo looked horrified at Thorin, then back at Balin. I looked over at Fili, who smirked back. We rode silently up near the hobbit as the company started to move again.     "That won't be necessary," Bilbo stammered. "I've had many a walking holiday before and- AH!" Fili and I lifted the surprisingly light hobbit up and set him on the spare pony we had. He sat stiff on the saddle and clutched the leather like it was a branch in a raging river. I laughed, scaring the hobbit.     "Don't worry, it won't eat the fuzz off your feet," I said, slapping him on the back. "Her name's Myrtle, by the way." I slowed my steed so Bilbo could ride ahead again and I could ride side by side with Fili. We hadn't even been moving for five minuets when the hobbit called out.     "Wait, stop! We must head back!"     "What's the matter now," Dwalin asked.     "I have forgotten my handkerchief," Bilbo mused. Bofur and Gloin shared a look, ripped off part of Bofur's tunic and threw it at the disgusted hobbit.     "Move on," Thorin called from ahead. As Bilbo looked at the cloth, he sneezed again. A few minuets later, Gandalf joined us on a horse, and had Bilbo's hankies.
When we camped for the night, just outside of Hobbiton, Bilbo was frantic. He fell off the pony he was riding when she stopped, tripped over a rock that everyone else was able to avoid, and ran into a tree.     "The wild is out to get me," Bilbo yelled as he pulled the pine needles from his curly hair.     "Then maybe you should have first watch," Thorin growled by where we tied the ponies up for the night. I glanced at Fili, we had watch tonight. Maybe the hobbit could take it? "You and the lads can get acquainted. Bombur, when's that stew going to be ready?" My face fell, as did Fili's. Still stuck with watch.     "Any minuet now Thorin," Bombur called from the fire. He pulled a ladle up to his mouth and took a sip. "Correction, it's done now." Something rumbled by Thorin, I suspected it was his stomach. I chuckled as I pulled out my bowl from my sack. I walked over to the stew pot and dipped my bowl, scooping out a large portion. I sat on a large stone, the same that the hobbit tripped over, and tucked into my food. Fili walked over, saw me sitting on the stone, nudged me off with a kick and sat on the stone. I luckily didn't spill any of my food. Thorin looked over and frowned at us.     "You two behave," He growled.     "Yes Thorin," We mumbled. Bilbo looked over at us, confusion written in the furrowed brows and smirk on his face. He sat down in front of me and sighed.     "So, you two are trouble makers," He asked. I snorted into my stew, spraying my face with hot liquid.     "Not really," Fili said, playing with his mustache.     "More like trouble finds us," I said, remembering something we told someone a few years ago. "Why do you ask hobbit?" Bilbo shrugged and ate some of his stew.     "Just wanting to get to know who I will be traveling with," Bilbo said with another smirk on his face. "Remind me who everyone is please. Their names are avoiding me at the moment." Fili set down his empty bowl.     "Okay," He said with a toss of his head. "I'm Fili, he's Kili," He tossed his thumb at me. I smiled and raised my hand in greeting. Fili pointed to Bofur, who was sitting on a log with Bifur.     "The one with the floppy hat is Floppy," Fili continued. "That's his brother Shiny. Their cousin is the cook, Cracker."     "Is he the one with the chin showing through his beard," Bilbo asked. Fili nodded and cast a glance at me. I couldn't believe that the hobbit actually thought that we were telling him everyone's names! Fili looked around the makeshift camp, looking for everyone else. He spotted Dwalin and Balin talking on another log near the tree line.     "The one with the bald head is Baldi," Fili continued. I snorted, turned it into a cough, and the hobbit didn't know any wiser. "That's his brother with the long white beard that's forked at the end. His name's Balin." What, you thought that we would insult a dwarrow that we respect? Never! "The red head with the pointy hair, do you see him?" Bilbo looked around after putting down his food bowl, which was now empty.     "You mean the one with the three points on his head," Bilbo asked. Fili nodded again. How he could keep a straight face through out this, I would never find out. I was doing everything I could to keep from laughing my guts out.     "That's Pointy, his older brother with the braids all over his head, that's Henny. The other read head with the notebook and knitted gloves is...... What's his name again Kee?"     "Wasn't it Knitty," I asked, trying even harder to keep from laughing. I had an idiotic grin stuck to my face, but that was it thankfully. Fili nodded again.     "That's Knitty with the notebook. The last red head, over by the fire, that's Smithy, and his brother's the one with the ear trumpet. That's Eary. Are we missing anyone?" I looked up at Fili with a look that asked 'Aren't you forgetting something?' Fili snapped his fingers.     "Okay hobbit, the last of our company is the one over there," He said, pointing to the fire. Thorin was reading a map again, plotting our course no doubt.     "Right, he was a something Oakenshield," Bilbo said, waving his hand in a circle.     "Grumpin Oakenshield," Fili said, but that was it for me. I fell over in a fit of giggles. Bilbo thankfully paid me no mind. He looked at Fili in disbelief.     "Grumpin, who in their right mind would name someone Grumpin," Bilbo asked. Fili shrugged.     "Beats me," He said, his skin under his beard turning red, not just from the firelight. Huh, so he was having trouble holding back his laughter!     "Well, I'm going to get some more, if there's anything left," Bilbo said getting up. He turned around and walked towards Bombur, who was still at the stew pot. "Cracker, could you please let me have the ladle," Bilbo asked politely. Bombur paid him no mind. The hobbit shrugged and dipped his bowl into the pot, getting some more stew. As Bilbo walked past Thorin, he said a greeting.     " Good Evening Grumpin," He said kindly. Thorin frowned and looked up at the hobbit, who was walking back towards us without a worry on his mind.     "What did you call me," Thorin asked, getting up. Bilbo frowned and turned around.     "I just said Good Evening, Mr Oakenshield," Bilbo said, a little more then befuddled. I slapped Fili's arm.     "I think it's time to make ourselves scarce," I whispered. Fili nodded and we stood up. We were up the two pines quicker then a squirrel.     "No you called me something, what was it," Thorin pressed, wagging a finger at the frightened hobbit. Bilbo stammered.     "I-I c-called you by y-your name, Mr Oakenshield." Thorin frowned at Bilbo.     "My name isn't Grumpin," He growled. "Who told you-" Thorin let out a very noisy sigh and flexed his hands as if he were ringing something, or someone's neck.     "FILI AND KILI, MAKE YOUR SELVES SEEN BEFORE I MAKE YOU A PORCUPINE," He bellowed. I fell out of the tree laughing so hard, Fili was barely able to climb down he was laughing so hard. Bilbo was back on the rock, silently eating his stew, throwing a furious glance at us. Thorin was glaring ice at us.     "Yes Uncle Grumpin," I asked, cracking at the end. Thorin's glare intensified so Fili and I stood erect, silenced our giggles and attempted to look Thorin in the eye.     "Very funny," Thorin growled, ice and fury leaking out through his voice. Our giggles disappeared and all our attention was on Thorin. "If I didn't promise Dis that nothing would harm you, I would this second! You two have pony watch for the next week-"     "Thorin!" We shouted.     "Two weeks. Hop to it!" Thorin stalked back to the fire.     "Come now Thorin," Gandalf said from his stump. "That's a little harsh is it not?" Thorin sat back down.     "It's time they were Dwarrow, not dwarflings," Thorin growled. I growled and kicked a twig that was by my foot. It went flying through the air and stuck it's self in Thorin's hair. I sat down quicker then I though possible. Thorin didn't notice either, so I hoped I was safe. Nobody ratted on me, so I thankfully was. I crawled over to the pine tree that I had climbed up and leaned against it. It happened to be near Bilbo's rock. Bilbo set down his food and looked at me.     "Yes hobbit," I asked. Fili sat down in between Bilbo and I, glancing at both of us. Bilbo opened his mouth, shut it again, took a deep breath, opened his mouth again, growled and pointed at me.     "You had it coming," He growled at last. Fili and I chuckled.     "Don't regret it though, not one second of it!" Bilbo chuckled.
please ignore the Point of View change
"Are you sure hobbit," Kili asked. "Thorin's going to want everyone well rested so we can move-"     "I'm sure Kili," I said again. "I can't sleep, so I'll take watch with Floppy- I mean Bofur!" Fili and Kili smirked, but I guaranteed that they wouldn't be smirking for long. I actually needed Bofur's help to make that happen. They grabbed their bed rolls from their sacks and the blonde rolled them out. Kili walked over and kicked Bofur in the back, jostling him awake. They spoke a while in their stony language that sounded more like rocks on ice then anything, before Bofur sat up with a yawn and Kili went to his roll. Bofur got up and sat next to me.     " 'Ello hobbit, Kili said you couldn't sleep," Bofur said cheerfully. I shrugged. "Tha's alrigh', first time out on the road, correct?" I nodded and flexed my toes. Bofur stuck his pipe in his mouth and slapped my back. "You'll get used to it soon enough!" I looked up at him.     "Maybe," I said ruefully. "I need some help actually." Bofur looked at me, so I continued. "I need to get back at Fili and Kili, mostly Kili." Bofur smiled and shifted his pipe to one side of his mouth.     "Why mostly Kili," He asked. I shrugged and grabbed a stick by my toe.     "He made a fool of me and said he didn't regret one second of it," I growled. "Nobody makes a fool of a Baggins, or a Took for that matter. I want to get him back, but I don't know how." I wasn't sure why I felt I needed to get back at the poor dwarrow, maybe it was my Took coming out again. Bofur adjusted his hat and pursed his lips as he thought. Smoke poured out of his pipe and out of his mouth for a few minuets before Bofur spoke. Bofur scared the wits out of me as he chuckled.     "Pepper," He said at last. I frowned at him as I drove my stick into the ground.     "What good would that do," I asked, gripping the stick with my toes. Bofur chuckled again.     "Kili's very allergic to pepper. One time I-"     "Where does Cracker-BOMBUR! Where does Bombur keep his spices?"     "Where else," Bofur asked. With a shake of his head, he pointed to Bombur. It took a good long stare, but I found where Bombur kept his spices. On his belt, which he never took off.     "Ye know hobbit," Bofur started, but I held out a finger to him.     "I am going to get that pepper, and give Kili what he deserves. Don't. Make. A sound." I got to my feet and stepped around my sack. I crouched down next to Bombur and assessed my plan. It was to take off his belt, use what I needed and put it back on, but seeing that the spice containers were removable, that plan was abandoned. Also, upon closer examination, I wouldn't of been able to remove, much less put on, the belt.     "Hobbit," Bofur hissed, I paid him no mind. I heard him slap his pants as he gave up trying to get my attention. If it was important, he would have persisted. I searched his belt for the pepper, and found it almost underneath him. I just hoped he would roll over when I grabbed it. Then I realized something.     "Will he wake," I hissed back.     "What," Bofur hissed back.     "Will Bombur wake up when I pull on his belt," I hissed louder. Bofur snorted.     "He wouldn't wake up even if ye yelled in 'is ear!" I turned back to Bombur and reached for his belt again. "Ye really-" I glared at Bofur, who went silent. I snatched the pepper off Bombur's belt and tensed as he shifted. When he didn't' wake, I let out a sigh of relief. I slunk back over to Bofur, who was silently chuckling to himself. I chuckled and held up the pepper. Bofur's chuckles intensified as he held up his own pepper. My smirk disappeared and I stared blankly at Bofur.     "I tried to tell ye, but ye were so intent on grabbing Bombur's..." Bofur shook his head again with another chuckle. I threw the pepper in my hand over my shoulder and grabbed Bofur's pepper. I stood back up and went over to Kili bed roll. surprisingly, he wasn't in it, more like to the side of it. It didn't' bother me too much, seeing as it made my job more easy. If only Thorin hadn't slept right next to Kili. I didn't know how heavy a sleeper he was, and I didn't want to find out. I stepped onto Kili's bed roll, scurried over to his bags and grabbed the coat that was sitting on top. It was a very startling blue, hemmed with silver. I grabbed the hood, flipped it inside out and dumped the pepper all over it. When I felt my own nose tickle, I figured that would be enough incentive for Kili. I laid it back on his sack and crawled back to Bofur.     "Be sure not to keep anything on ye," Bofur reminded. I dropped the pepper container.     "Right." I yawned. Bofur chuckled again.     "Get some sleep. Ye might need to make a mad dash back to yer hole." I frowned at him.     "Why?"     "Durin's have a nasty temper. Kili as far as I know, doesn't have it, but he might." I blinked a few times with another yawn.     "Okay," I mumbled. I pulled out a blanket from my sack and laid it next to Bofur's empty roll. It happened to be on a huge tree root, but there wasn't another empty spot. Getting as comfortable as I could with the root digging into my back, I shut my eyes.
I was the first one up, and the only reason that I woke up was because Fili prodded me awake.     "Hobbit, please wake up," He urged. I opened my eyes and sat up. "Thank the stars. Thorin wants you to gather the ponies while Bombur makes some food." I rubbed my eyes and looked around. Bombur was up and at the stew pot again, Gandalf and Thorin talking quietly on the other side of the camp. Everyone else was snoring softly. Fili pulled me to my feet and slapped my shoulders. "Thorin said I had to help you, and I would rather not miss breakfast, so how about we get a move on, hum?" I yawned again as I rolled up my blanket. "Kili'll take care of that hobbit, we just need to take care of the ponies before- oh dear, here he comes." I looked up from rolling my blanket up to find Thorin stalking towards us, a glare on his face. He stopped three feet from Fili and looked at him, glancing every now and then at me.     "Why did you wake the hobbit," He asked, thoroughly annoyed. Fili looked at his boots, which were scuffing the dirt underneath him. "I told you to have Kili help you." Fili looked up and attempted to match Thorin's stare.     "He had another one last night, and it kept him up," Fili defended. "I figured that he could use the sleep more then anyone else. I rather like my limbs though, so I wouldn't dare wake anyone else." Thorin growled.     "I don't mind that you woke up the hobbit to let Kili sleep," Thorin said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Just next time, make sure that I know ahead of time." Thorin lowered his voice. "Do you know what it was about?"     "The usual, I think. Kee sort of mumbled it." Thorin sighed and looked Fili in the eye.     "Keep a close eye on him today." Thorin noticed that I was standing there, and scowled at me. "Don't you have something to do?" I dropped the blanket I had in my hand, the malice in his voice was terrifying.     "Er, yes," I stammered. "It's just that I erhm, was waiting for Fili to finish talking with you G-Thorin." Thorin glared at me a little longer then I would have liked and trudged back to Gandalf. How I was going to survive the next week, I had no idea. I picked up my blanket and rolled it back up. "Had another what," I asked Fili as I put the blanket into my sack.     "Humwhat," Fili asked.     "Kili had another what," I asked again. Fili cracked his knuckles and walked up next to me.     "Nightmare," He said in my ear, startling me. Have the dwarves ever heard of personal space?!  He smirked at me and gestured to my sack. "Why are you packing if you don't even have somewhere to stow that?" I looked down to my pack and nudged it with my foot.     "Well, we could have to go at a moments notice, and I don't want to be the reason for everyone being eaten alive because my things weren't packed." Someone growled behind me, it happened to be Dwalin.     "You could learn a few things from the hobbit Fili," He grumbled as he sat up. With another yawn and a shake of his head, Dwalin was up and tugging on Balin's beard, attempting to get him up. Balin, who was snoring two seconds ago, grabbed his sword and swung it towards Dwalin, who aptly jumped over it.     "Let go brother," Balin growled. Dwalin released the white beard and folded his arms. Balin sat up and frowned at Dwalin, but there was mirth in his eyes. Fili slapped my back again.     "Do you want on Thorin's bad side again," Fili asked. I shook my head and gestured for Fili to lead the way to...where ever we were going. Turns out, it wasn't far, and it wasn't too hard. Fili lead me over a few sleeping dwarrow the Ri family I believe, and I found myself in a small clearing. All the sixteen ponies were accounted for, and Gandalf's horse too. All the saddles were stacked by a large willow tree, and a small creek ran on the other side of the clearing. Fili walked over to Gandalf's horse and clapped his hands at him, shouting something. The horse looked at Fili and got up. Fili moved over to his head and rubbed his neck, scratched behind his ear and so forth.     "Hobbit, hand me the largest saddle, I think Kili put it on a branch," He said loudly over his shoulder. I walked over to the saddles and looked at them. They all looked the same...     "Hurry hobbit," Fili hissed again. On a rather high branch sat a saddle, one that had a larger seating area then the rest. I reached up and pulled it off the branch. It happened to be heaver then I thought it would be, so I dropped it...on my toes... I inhaled loudly and hissed, pulling out my foot and swinging it as I did so. I leaned down and picked up the saddle, this time prepared for it's weight. I waddled, yes waddled, over to Fili, who picked up the saddle with ease and flung it onto the horse.     "What took so long," Fili asked, looked sideways at me. I frowned at him.     "I'm short. That's heavy, and my toes are unprotected-something just hit my head!" Fili snorted and looked up as he pulled on the strap for the saddle.     "It's going to rain soon," He said absently. "I suggest that we hurry up." Thankfully, the rest of the saddles and ponies were much easier. We were done within the hour, I think. We lead the ponies and horse back to where we had slept and I found that everyone was up already. And they were eating without us. My stomach roared, and everyone looked at me.     "Someone's hungry," Kili said with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and tied up the pony's to a tree.     "You two can eat on the road," Thorin said, putting his bowl in his sack. He frowned and rifled through his sack a little more. "Where's my cloak," He asked, looking around the camp.     "Oh," Kili said, getting up suddenly. "I knew I was forgetting something." He went over to his own pack and pulled out the blue cloak I had dumped pepper on. My eyes widened and I looked at Bofur. He was equally surprised. I prayed that it wouldn't rain. "I borrowed it last night, got a little cold." Kili handed the cloak to Thorin, who was frowning at Kili, but you could see that he wasn't really mad at him, more annoyed. Thorin clasped the cloak to his neck and went to his pony, as did most everyone else. Bombur and Gandalf stayed by the stew pot.     "How do you get on," I asked. Everyone chuckled.     "Watch me hobbit," Kili said. He turned towards the pony and put his right foot in the hangy down thing, I think Fili said it was a stirrup earlier. He grabbed the horn like thing on top of the saddle and pulled himself up. "Okay, don't watch me," Kili said. He had gotten up backwards. Everyone chuckled. Kili slid back down and put his left foot in the stirrup. This time he pulled himself up the right way. I looked at the pony I was going to ride. She seemed fairly gentle. I grabbed the horn, put my left foot in the stirrup and pulled myself up. I flung my other leg over the saddle and sat on it.     "You did it," Fili shouted, almost in disbelief.     "Very nice job Bilbo," Gandalf said, handing me a bowl of food. It was cool, but still very good. We got in two lines, side by side, I happened to be next to Ori, behind Fili and Kili. We left the forest and found ourselves in a field, covered in fog. We trotted down the path for a while, until it started to rain. Everyone pulled up their hoods, I watched in horror as Thorin pulled his hood over his face. He sneezed once, twice, thrice, stopped and looked back at Fili and Kili, who were right behind him. He sneezed again as he turned his pony towards them.     "Kil*SNEEZE* Kili, what in *SNEEZE* Durin's name did yo*SNEEZE* you do to my *SNEEZE* cl*SNEEZE* cloak," He sneezed. Fili and Kili were laughing their heads off, I was surprised that they weren't falling off their ponies. I tried to hide in my coat, but I couldn't.     "I didn't do anything Thorin," Kili managed to chortle out. Thorin sneezed again, launching Fili and Kili into another round of laughter.     "Something *SNEEZE* is making me *SNEEZE* sneeze like this, *SNEEZE* if you don't *SNEEZE* find out what it *SNEEZE* is-"     "I did it," I yelled. "I thought it was Kili's cloak and dumped pepper in the hood. Look, I'm really sorry-" One sharp glare from Thorin shut me up. Thorin took off his hood and let his hair get drenched in the rain. A few more hours past, with Kili and Bofur re-enacting Thorin's sneezing. Everyone got bored with that, so we tossed around a fairly large apple Kili found.     "Hey hobbit," Bofur called. I turned around and got an apple to the face. It landed in my lap as everyone laughed.     "Hobbit, I'm open," Ori called.     "Over here hobbit," Nori called, farther back.     "Mr Boggins," Kili called. I turned towards Kili and threw the apple at his head. He ducked and it hit Thorin's back. He happened to be passing over a small hobbit bridge without rails, and must of been shifting in his seat or something, because he fell off the saddle, and into the creek. I stared at where Thorin disappeared into the fog. I heard the splash, the gasp, and a bunch of yelling. Thorin's head appeared in the fog, his hair was sticking to his face from the water. He spat the water out of his mouth and looked up at the company, specifically at me. He started yelling at me in his stony language, Fili and Kili who were laughing moments ago, where now flinching at what Thorin was saying.     "Hey, hobbit, you might want to start running," Fili said as Thorin's head disappeared in the fog again as he slipped in the water. I blinked at him.     "What did he say," I dared to ask.     "He's going to kill you with your own hair," Kili mumbled. "Something along the lines of that. Best to get going hobbit." I didn't even have to move a finger. Something grabbed my shoulders and lifted me out of my saddle. I watched as the ground dropped out from under me. Twenty feet, thirty feet, still climbing. I had climbed many trees in my youth, but never this high. I yelled out and kicked at the air, drawing eyes. Ori Kili and Fili looked up and gaped. They yelled out as they faded in the fog. My hands flew to whatever was holding my shoulders still, and I felt scales, like what I would find on a chicken's legs. I looked up and at first saw nothing. Then I saw feathers, white feathers. I yelled out again, and the beast that was carrying me looked down. The ceature's head was like an eagle's, only it was brown and huge. It's left eye was green, it's right blue. It had a beak, on it's chest was a leather strap that was starting to shred from age.     "Put me down," I screamed. The ceature's eyes narrowed and it opened it's maw. A shrill and cold shriek bellowed from it's maw, right into my face. It's talons let go and I dropped a few feet, I couldn't tell how far I dropped because of the fog. I screamed as I fell, twirling top over bottom as I fell. The creature grabbed my left foot, stopping my fall abruptly, also sending pain up my leg. We continued to descend until I could reach down and touch the ground. The creature reared up, landed, and set me down under it's paw, though it didn't squish me.     "What did you find there girl," Someone asked. It was a female someone, and her boots were right in front of my face. "Good grief, is it still alive?"     "Yes I'm alive," I yelled into the dirt. "Get this thing off me!" The female leaned down until I could see her knee. She rubbed my head and pulled at one of the talons on my back.     "Now now, there's no need to start calling names hobbit," The lady cooed. She stood up again, ruffling the creature's leg feathers on the way up. "Lakita, take him back where you found him. We don't catch hobbits, especially nicely dressed, soaking hobbits." The creature cooed at her. "Now I mean it girl, take the hobbit back where you found him, gently! We don't want another restraining order." I was picked up around my middle and lifted into the sky again. I curled into the fetal position, as much as I could with something holding my torso. I shut my eyes and held behind my knees, pulling them as close as I could. The creature let go of me and panic surged. I yelled out for a split second as I was dropped on the ground.     "There you are hobbit, we were getting worried," Someone called above me. A warm hand touched my shoulder, pulling me out of my protective ball to see who it was. Oh joy, it was Kili. Fili hopped down from his pony and joined Kili in crouching down next to me.     "What happened, we barely saw you get lifted," Fili said. I sat up and shook my self off as I got to my feet.     "Not entirely sure," I mumbled. Kili patted me on the back and smirked.     "Can't be too bad," He said with a cheeky grin.     "Has um....Has Thorin cooled down," I asked shyly. "I like my life a lot and would like to keep it." Kili chuckled and pushed me towards his pony.     "The thing is, Thorin doesn't cool down," Fili said, walking towards his pony. "He might simmer for a while but he doesn't forget things like that. Can't be too bad though..." I gulped as I climbed into Kili's saddle.
I poked at the fire with a charred stick. Thorin had given me another night of watch with Fili and Kili. They were watching a bird twitter in a tree, talking to them selves in  their language, chuckling every now and then. The darkened sky was darker then ever with clouds, but when the cloud barrier did break, more stars then I could count filled the night sky, giving off a beautiful light. Slowly, everyone fell asleep, starting with Ori, ending with Gandalf, possibly Thorin. I picked up Bombur's frying pan and scrapped the burned on food into the fire again, then set it back by my foot. The forest behind me and fields in front were full of bird's twittering, and other animal noises. Suddenly, they all stopped. Fili and Kili looked up and frowned.     "Did you hear that," Kili asked. I looked up from the fire and frowned at him.     "Hear what," I asked.     "Exactly," Fili said. They stood up and drew their swords. "If anything happens hobbit, sound the alarm." I stood up and looked at them.     "What is the alarm," I asked.     "Loudly yelling that something's up," Kili said as he rolled his eyes. They stocked into the fields, leaving me to guard the camp. I sat back down and waited for a few minuets. Something started to make my neck itch, so I lifted my hand up to it. I was yanked backwards off the log I was sitting on by my neck, thanks to a very strong arm.     "ACK," I yelled. I pulled at the arm around my neck as a hand pushed on the top of my forehead. My foot kicked upwards, throwing the frying pan into the air. It landed in my arm's reach, so I grabbed for it. The owner of the arm turned me so I couldn't get to the frying pan with my arm, but my feet still could. I grabbed it with my toes, lifted it to my hand and pulled my head out of the person's grip. I turned around, grabbed the frying pan with both hands and took a step back from the attacker. Fili and Kili yelled out and tackled the person that attacked me, or Kili did. They fought on the ground, abandoning their weapons. I took a few deep breaths as I lowered the frying pan.     "Are they wrestling," I asked. Twice now, Kili had a chance to knock out who ever that was, and he didn't.     "More like an extreme wrestling," Thorin said behind me, startling me. He was up and looked at the two rolling on the ground, a miffed expression on his face.     "GET OFF ME," Kili yelled, waking everyone else up. The figure was sitting on top of Kili, a smug smile on her face.     "Not until you apologize for knocking me over," She yelled. Kili squirmed under her, until she rocked back and forth on him.     "OKAY, I'M SORRY FOR KNOCKING YOU OVER," Kili yelled, waking up Oin and Bombur. The person got off Kili and helped him up, then embraced him with a huge hug. Kili wiggled out and the person looked around.     "Well," She said. "That was rather unexpected."     "What was unexpected was that you choked me," I yelled. "How is that a way to greet someone?!" Fili and Kili chuckled.     "That's her special way of greeting," Fili said, throwing an arm around the lady.     "What is she doing here," Dwalin growled, right behind me. Sensing that an argument was coming, I backed away and watched from over by Gandalf. The lady smirked and set her hands on her hips.     "I'm here, the same reason as you Dwalin," She growled. Dwalin snorted. I leaned over to Gandalf.     "Do you know who she is," I asked. Gandalf shook his head.     "Not a clue, but they have some familiarity with her," He said, pointing to the Durins with his pipe.     "Come now Dwalin, Myrin won't do any harm," Balin said standing next to Dwalin. Gandalf stiffened.     "Besides, I would have come if I didn't have that accident," Myrin said. She turned to Thorin, her gaze turning steely. "You have some explaining to do," She growled at him. Thorin frowned at her.     "What do I have to explain," He asked, matching her tone. She reached into her satchel and pulled out a letter with a Phoenix. She frowned and dug farther into her bag. She pulled out what looked like a wanted poster, but it didn't have a face on it. On it were words in some form of elvish, but I couldn't tell what they said. Dwalin, Balin, Gloin, Oin, Dori, Bofur, Bifur and Bombur hissed as she held it out for everyone to see. Dwalin muttered something in his stony language, supposedly directed at Thorin. Thorin shrugged and said something back. Myrin yelled at him, Fili and Kili watching the exchange with confusion. Everyone else was trying to stay out of it, Balin adding a few things now and then. Myrin walked over and poked Thorin in the chest, threateningly, saying something very slowly. She backed up, gave one more glare at him, and turned around.     "There was a hobbit around here," She said. She spotted me and smiled brightly. "There he is! Come here so I can have a look see!" I glanced at Gandalf, hoping he would help me get out of this, but he nodded towards the person. I took a deep breath and walked towards her with my hand out.     "Bilbo Baggins-"     "Give it a twirl," She said, moving her finger in a circle. I stopped and frowned at her.     "What," I asked. She rolled her eyes and smirked.     "Give it a twirl hobbit, or do I need to circle you?"     "Just do it hobbit, we all had to," Kili said. I glanced over at him, frowned back at Myrin, and gave a twirl.     "Not that fast," Myrin yelled. "Try it slower!" I stopped, and started to spin slowly. "Okay, a little faster then that." I spun a little faster. She suddenly grabbed my chin and looked at my face, her purple eyes staring into the depths of mine. One eye squinted at me as she turned my head to the left, then to the right. She let go and backed up, her hand moving to her own chin. Fili and Kili were laughing, so I glared at them.     "What's so funny," I asked.     "You twirled," Fili said.     "You did to," I countered.     "No they didn't hobbit," Myrin said, still staring at me. "They did that to make you twirl. Thanks, by the way." Kili nodded and smirked at me. I frowned further at him, making future plans to get back at him.     "Your, not quite pot belly, and your strong back suggests that you like to garden, but seeing as your fingers are unnaturally clean, you haven't done it in a while," Myrin began. I stared at her, wondering where she was going with this. "The paper cut on your left index finger indicates that you like to read, along with the other scars from paper cuts on your hands." I shoved my hands into my pockets. "You don't like to be laughed at because you were laughed at when in your youth, possibly an un hobbit young one?" I felt myself nodded, even though I didn't want to tell her anything more. "The dark circles indicates that you haven't slept in a while, or that you have been finding it hard to sleep the past few days, no more then a week without adequate sleep. The wrinkles on your face show that you haven't smiled in a while, so you don't have any young ones of your own, and you don't contact your parents, if they are still alive. Sorry to hear that. Your forearm strength is low, so you haven't held an axe before, unless it was to shop down your yearly wood supply, yet your belt loops are stretched out. Either you have many young hobbits in the Shire that like you, or you tug at them when nervous. The latter, as I see now. Seeing your coat, you are better off then some, but are content with your things. All in all, a fairly good, typical hobbit, though I doubt most would consider traveling with dwarves typical." Myrin smiled at me and held out her hand. "Myrin Flambard, at your service Master Hobbit." I looked up from studying my feet and looked at Myrin. The name couldn't be a coincidence. I took her hand.     "You already know my name, but I'm curious at yours," I said. "I know a Flambard, and I'm wondering if he's-"     "Named after me," Myrin finished. She let go of my hand and rubbed the back of her head. "Yeah, I saved old Took when Flambard's Da was little, so when he grew up he named his first born after me, but he couldn't quite remember it correctly."     "That's all fine and dandy Myrin," Fili said. "But does he have a chance for becoming a Burglar?" Myrin smiled at me, her eye squinting slightly.     "That remains to be seen."     "Miss Flambard," Gandalf said behind me, once again startling me.     "Flamebird," Myrin corrected. "I must of mispronounced it again. It's Flamebird mister..."     "Gandalf the Grey. I was simply curious as to where you got yoru first name."     "My Amad, where else?" Gandalf's bushy eye brows furrowed as he nodded.     "Well, Myrin, it's a beautiful name."     "Not that I have a grudge against pleasantries," Bombur interrupted. "But it's almost moon high, and we have to be up at dawn again. I would LIKE to get some sleep!" Bombur curled over in his bed roll. Soon his snores joined the crickets and other wild life.     "Well, some people don't change," Myrin said with a bright smile.     "Indeed," Dwalin hissed. Myrin glared at Dwalin, Dwalin glared back. This journey just became a whole lot more interesting...

Two weeks, barely, that was all Tom’s attention hovered on you before his noticing the slimmer far more interesting female having much more scenes with him. You only had five weeks to film what shockingly few scenes you both as the lead couple had together. Thankfully you remained quite private, and never went past a peck on the cheek in public, holding the relationship between you as old friends to the world protecting what little pride you had left as the gaping hole in your chest bled just a little harder from his repeated abandoning of you.
All this through Lee’s sparce emails and texts wishing to start any sort of communications with you again. Alone and stoic you sat as usual on your sets, focusing on the script and notes from the director and writer wishing for you to get the role just right, sealing your reputation as dependable and dedicated in their minds. Though in all honesty it took all you had to not constantly be in tears on the set like you normally were in your newest b&b room making you feel like a giant at your need to hunch in several of the rooms.
In your third month a knock drew you from your bed, a low groan left you as you stood, reaching up to meet the roof reminding yourself not to hit it once again in the shifting roof height in the small office/mini apartment you had rented. Through the paned glass on the door to it you blinked adjusting to the bright sunlight soon dimmed by the giant body in front of it as they ruffled their hand through their hair after pulling off a cap. Under your breath you mumbled, “This, cannot be happening…Haven’t even had toast yet…”
Forcing a weak smile you unlocked and opened the door spotting Lee in his turn as he grinned at you anxiously. “Jaqi. Um.” His hand rose to rub the back of his neck unable to find the words.
“Your flight’s a bit early.”
“I caught a sooner one.” You nodded and he added, “I woke you up.”
You nodded, “After dark scenes yesterday.”
“Shit. Um.” His head tilted curiously as he asked, “After dark as in night time, or romance scenes?”
“Night time. Some firework car chase monstrosity. Had to sprint through alleys and a park for hours to time it just right on all the angles.”
“Ah. I feel even worse for waking you now.”
You shrugged, “I’m the only one to last the night without wheezing. You start up in three days still?”
He nodded, “Yes.” His eyes scanned over your shoulder towards the still packed suitcases stacked at the foot of your awkwardly small daybed in the opposite corner of the room across from the small couch and table across from the tiny imitation kitchen the room had offered. “If you have the supplies I could come in and make you breakfast, if you wanted.”
“I really don’t think that’s a good idea.”
He nodded, “Of course. Ya. I understand.” Wetting his lips he struggled against the urge to turn away only to glance back when you said his name.
“Lee.” His eyes met yours in a pleading expression only to narrow curiously as your hand rose and planted on the ceiling causing his lips to part and for him to lean down and peer inside seeing the other dips at the switching of areas in the apartment. “I have to duck in the toilet and bed area. Your role’s an actiony thing. I can’t have you hurting yourself.”
“Who did you rent this from, a Hobbit?”
You chuckled weakly, “Mrs Tilden is really nice. Barely four feet, but really nice. I’ve only got it another night anyways.”
His brows rose, “Then where are you going?”
You shrugged, “Saw some adds yesterday, but they’re not fond of the cameras. Had some troubles with actors before.”
“I,” He wet his lips again, “I’m renting a house, few blocks over, three spare beds. And it would give me a chance to apologize, and try and make it up to you. Your filming’s four months right?”
“Another three, actually. We managed to get a fair bit done already and something about flooding cut some of the travel scenes.”
He nodded again, “Well I’m here for four, so,”
With a sigh you turned, “I’m gonna get my shoes.”
A smile spread on his face and he crouched down with a chuckle and squeezed inside the doorway to get a better look of his place only making you giggle when you joined him again. “This, it is very homey.”
You rolled your eyes, “There was a lot of care put into it.” Missing his eyes scanning over the tight t shirt and jeans he loved on you then met your eyes with a more sullen expression.
“When I started acting I jumped on what I could. I had to focus on it. I know it’s a terrible excuse, but I really wanted to give you plenty of space to focus on it properly.”
“Not even five minutes a day, or even a week? You couldn’t just give me that?”
After a disappointed sigh aimed at himself he replied, “We were busy is such a pitiful reason to use. But it’s all I have.”
You nodded, “You could have texted me on the toilet if you had to.”
He couldn’t help it but his brow rose playfully, “You, wanted me to text you on the toilet?”
“It would have guaranteed me time.”
A smirk spread across his face, as he struggled to hold back a chuckle, “Yes it would have.” After a nip at his lip he said, “I promise, should, I win your trust, and possibly, just possibly get you to like me, even just a little again, I will promise you to always text you,” a chuckle left him as you rolled your eyes, “When I’m on the toilet.”
You giggled softly and nudged him towards the door. “Come on, you woke me, now you have to feed me.”
Lee chuckled leading the path to the door, “I feel like I should be recording these. For any future vows.” Making you giggle again, “No, I’m serious. Those are incredible vows. To always feed you when woken and to always text you on the toilet.” His smile grew when he was upright again outside watching you lock the door.
“I can imagine the looks of shame on your friend’s and family’s faces.”
“I think my Dad and Brother would be jealous not to have thought of them first.”
All together, since your first step towards dating after your fumble in the airport seven years had passed. Tears warmly still streamed down your cheeks through another sob you failed to contain as you packed your long since used duffel and large gym bag. On the message machine in the house once again Lee’s unnoticed recorded drunken conversation clicked off and saved when the machine went back to sleep until the next call would come in. Word after slurred word flowed freely from the man who’d so greatly changed since your first try together, one who’d hinted countless times at nearing popping a certain question. The hint of reluctance in your heart still lingered knowing just how poorly it would stand up against your first proposal, but you did truly love him, something his message paid no mind to at all.
Overall your pleasing personality and willingness to aid and support him through anything was a bit of an issue for him apparently, ‘too perfect’, was mentioned more than once. The sealing factor of his stated idea to simply ‘end it already’ was your pause in renewing your contacts with your agent and modeling agency. He simply didn’t understand why it would matter that when you had mentioned a feeling of not being safe in that modeling agency without any hard reasons not to, simply stating it was a decision a simple gut feeling shouldn’t stand in the way of when it came to the doubling of your salary and exposure.
He did, however find aiding in the hunt for a new acting agent a bit enjoyable for him as yours didn’t like your being with Lee. But the final stab was that he simply didn’t wish to be the guy having to follow up to your ‘supposedly perfect former fiancé’ one again the pit in your chest bled and pulsed painfully at the following cursing recounting of the proposal you had shared with him in confidence when you’d first gotten together.
Wiping your cheek you eyed the giant replica weapons encased in cloth that you shouldered out of some deep draw to take it with you as the voices of Richard, Martin and Graham had seemingly egged on stung in your mind’s replaying of the message. Somehow your greatest friends had thought it healing or helpful, in whatever way, to allow their drunken friend to spill all of this, obviously without realizing you had been listening in when he seemingly pocket dialed you. Yes you’d forgiven him, but not this time. Not when he’d been so cruel and they had so cheerfully egged him on, even adding in their own reasons to the list.
But as your hand settled on the doorknob your eyes clamped shut as you thought about martin’s first comment, “I told you, from the first time she had just fallen asleep in my home without so much as an invitation, she wasn’t the respectful sort.”
Not once had you ever been to Martin’s house, and Richard’s after being, “And those cakes she made. Whoever told that woman she could bake was painfully obtuse.”
Graham fired in not a moment after, “Then she just assumed she was free to claim my rum that once. Honestly, the jam bags on that one.”
Over your shoulder your ponytail swung drawing a faint jungle from the bell you’d woven back into your hair in your decision to leave. As it fell silent your eyes opened through a soft gasp as it clicked in your mind, It wasn’t a trail guide you’d lost but a King, in a world you were so painfully torn from.
A ring from your dusted off flip phone sounded signaling you to draw it out, in a glance at the scene your chest clenched seeing Martin’s name. After a momentary pause you hit talk and raised it to your ear hearing the echoing whispers of the shielded Hobbit currently hiding in the bathroom at Lee’s. “Jaqi, I, is this thing working?”
“I’m here.” Your voice wavered out.
“Oh, good! Well, it’s Bilbo. I’ve only a few moments left, Gandalf mentioned something about a time limit, Thorin and Dwalin were already pulled back.”
“Bil-.”
“Jaqi, I need you to know, Gandalf said something about returning to the crack. I’m not certain he knew where he was referring to, but, he said head to the crack and you’ll find the door there.”
“Crack?”
In an anxious glance around Bilbo stole a quizzical look at himself in the mirror before shaking his head and repeating, “It has to do with a memory about a hawk, one of your first you mentioned to Gandalf about your lost childhood.” A tingle went through his fingers as he felt himself starting to be pulled back again, “I have to go, he’s pulling me. We promised not to let you go back, come home.” A click on his screen later he’d set the phone down on the counter and felt his vision go blurry before his eyes opened to his room in Erebor again and he sat up first feeling his face then his hair and ears with a relieved sigh.
His eyes locked with Gandalf’s as he asked, “You told her where?”
Bilbo nodded, “Yes.”
Gandalf nodded with a soft smile, “Now the hardest part is up to her. To find this crack again.” His eyes met Thorin and Dwalin’s sullen figures slumped at the base of their chairs instantly feeling the hateful words they had urged out of the man poorly imitating your heart broken Husband still locked in his self imprisonment. Their eyes rose to meet the Wizard’s as he tapped their curled legs to say, “It is painful. But the ties had to be broken, or she would have stayed for any ties to him and you through the excruciating years time would grant her.”
They nodded and wiped their cheeks only to have Dwalin mumble, “Doesn’t make it feel any better. Breaking her heart like that.”
Gandalf, “I know. But, it will be worth it, to have her home again. Where she belongs.”
Closing your phone you looked to the door and exited, locking up and dropping the keys through the mail slot before you turned and eyed the taxi you’d called. One short ride after another you sat on a crowded bus staring out the window as it neared the next pit stop along the way to Arizona as you once again mumbled, “The crack. Really Gandalf…” with a sigh your mind wandered back to the first memory you had recounted to Gandalf on your prior trip to Middle Earth, one with your Cousins where you had befriended a hawk in the week long trip centered around the Grand Canyon. Softly again you mumbled, “I suppose it is rather small after seeing Moria and those tunnels.”
As the green around the long stretch of highway still lingered your mind wandered back to that first night in the King’s arms as you laid across his bed clinging to each other and peering out at the stars through his wall of windows. Against your neck Thranduil purred, “Which one do you wish for tonight?”
In a giggling reply you said, “When you word it like that it sounds like you’re gifting me the star Dew Drop.”
A smile spread across his lips as his head rose allowing yours to turn and face his, “What if I was?”
Your borrow rose, “I doubt the Valar would allow such a gift.”
He chuckled coolly and replied, “All the same, I humbly beg Eru, should you ever leave me, the stars are yours.” Your brow rose, “For I never wish to see them again in your absence.”
Warmly a tear streamed down your cheek as you could almost feel his lips on yours with his warm arms circling you tightly, drawing you to his chest once again. Shielding your sniffle you wiped your cheek and eyed the indent from the golden ring formerly on your finger, now zipped safely into your boot pocket again, wondering how it hadn’t affected you here after wearing it for so long.
.
With a sigh you were looking over the small rest stop around you before glancing at the small diner here only to snicker as your foot landed on the skateboard rolled in front of you through a pained ‘oof’ from the tall man having collapsed in a try at jumping the curb behind you. With a giggle you said, “Lio, you really are out of practice aren’t you?”
In an instant he leapt up to his feet softly saying, “Echo.”
The familiar voice drawing your eyes to the towering man with long curly raven hair down to his navel nearly with striking purple silver flecked eyes and small fangs identical to yours you recognized at once, “Ecthelion.”
A relieved chuckle stirred from him through tugging you into a tight yet brief hug then pulled back as he eyed you fully before curiously looking over the lands around you and asking in Ancient Elvish, “Where are we?”
“Just outside of California.” His brow rose, “It’s a bit of a long story. But Gandalf’s holding a door to get us back to Middle Earth.”
“Gandalf?”
“Oh, Olorin.” His face lit up, “One of the Isitari.”
As he glanced at the diner he wet his lips at the wafting scent of the food inside, “Are we stopping here to eat?”
You nodded and guided him inside as he bent to claim his skateboard, curious of why he was gifted the strange contraption. “So, how did you get here?”
He grinned at you, “I won the right to return to you from Namo.”
“How is that?”
His grin grew, “Chess.”
“But, it’s been Ages.”
He nodded and rubbed the back of his neck with an embarrassed chuckle, “Well, it did take me quite a time to master the game.”
“So for ages you just kept playing him until you won?”
He nodded, opening the diner door for you and following you to the free one sided corner table with two small chairs on the sides along the walls granting him both closeness to you and room for anything he wished for. “How much do we have for food and expenses?”
“I’m quite wealthy here, order what you care to try.”
With a quizzical brow he eyed the menu unable to distinguish what anything was past the pictures and relented to asking what you enjoyed and requested a match to your order. His smile only grew as he accepted the spare hair tie you had offered to him to pull his hair into a large bun while you gave your orders to the waitress smirking at him before his eyes shifted to the glimmer of silver tucked in your curls resting against your back. Gently he gripped the bell and held it over your shoulder asking, “Who are you courting? I cannot read these runes.”
“King Thranduil.”
His lips parted under his focused furrowing brows before he said, “I know of no King Thranduil.”
“Son of King Oropher, of the Great Greenwood in Middle Earth.” He blinked at you still unable to retrace those names, “Well, Greenwood is barely touching the borders of Lothlorien, which used to be called, Lindórinand, King Amroth, I can’t remember his Father’s name. Um,”
“I know the lands, I believed they were under the care of Silvan Elves.”
“They were, see, King Opherion wasn’t a King. He and his family lived in Doriath, when that fell they fled and were chosen to lead those Elves and joined with the Silvan Elves in Greenwood, who also accepted him as their King.”
“Glorfindel approved of this match?”
“Well,” You both turned to smile at the waitress bringing your food and thank her before you eyed him in his pleased inspection of the grilled chicken and baked veggies you had picked for you both before he claimed a sip of the iced peach tea you had also chosen with a pleased hum then glanced at you again. “At first, the gap between when I was taken from Gondolin and when I woke up in Middle Earth after, Olorin, had brought be there from this world, I couldn’t remember nearly all of it, or any of my former life in Valinor.” His expression shifted seriously as your words sank in. “For months I was on a journey to reclaim the homeland of my close friends, the Company of Thorin Oakenshield, where I met Thranduil. It wasn’t until we traveled to Moria after reclaiming Erebor that we passed Lolthorien, where Glorfindel spotted me, just a couple days before I was drug back here again.”
“Why here?”
You lowered your glass from the sip you’d taken and raised your fork in your hand, “Lady Galadriel, from Finwe’s line,” he nodded understanding the line you were referring to, “She got a ring of power, one of the Elven three, which she traded, certain people, to increase her power and beauty.”
“People, what people?”
“Gondolin.” His lips parted, “She traded the secret barriers, and me to gain power.”
“What right does she imagine she has to barter for your place so carelessly?!” He asked in a hushed whisper.
“I wasn’t the last. I’ve seen Aredhel here.” His brow rose, “Though her time here has done nothing towards her manners or cares for others.”
“Who else?”
“I’m not certain how many. I did hear from the Dragon that stole me she also was ordered to hand over her own Daughter as well.”
“When we return remind me to behead this so called Lady.”
“She’s trapped here. Followed be back after I destroyed her ring, tried to drag me back again. Eventually had to release control over her double’s body when the last of her strength faded.”
A proud smirk eased on his lips as he eyed his baby Sister and her new found strength he hated you had to find on your own, somehow seeing the pain this world had inflicted on you in your eyes. “I am glad to hear it. I cannot wait to see this Middle Earth and especially this King of yours.”
.
That night you guided your Brother to the motel near the bus stop and booked a room, accepting the last single bed room that he inspected curiously before taking his turn to bathe after you had, then smiled softly and joined you on the bed eyeing the food you had ordered and set there. Happily he sunk into sleep, full from the pizzas and smiling as he held you in his arms after your nestling there. The following morning with your bags and his on your shoulders he walked beside you on the street you were following that took you straight to the Grand Canyon national park. In awe he looked over these lands following after you, all through the park you followed the same paths you had all those years ago before your lips parted as you remembered exactly where you had found that hawk.
It took a few days but you had wandered your way back onto the same path you’d had to get lost all those years back to find. Peacefully you both shared all your times and pains the separating ages had left you to face through your near three week long hike. By the start of the fourth all those paths and rivers you had to cross had found you located outside a familiar crack in the rocky wall far too high to glimpse the sunlight over when you stood in its shadow. A smile slid onto your lips as you could feel a tingling in your fingers and wove your fingers with your Brother’s, who smiled against his nerves at the strange sensation, and followed you inside.

Seated along the wall of his bedroom Thranduil lost in his stoic silent pit of despair his eyes wandered from the bed again back to the doors of his balcony as his Son, who he’d somehow missed entering, had opened allowing a fresh breeze inside the room, nice and warm in the early night air as the first signs of spring were nearing. With a glance back at his Father’s blood shot eyes Legolas said, “Ada, you need some fresh air.”
Against his control his body rose at the notice of the time as interim King having left an exhausting weighty stoic expression on the once constantly smiling and soft, pleased by the simplest of things now unable to stir the smile it once did at his and his Father’s shared pain. Stiffly he walked to the balcony doors asking with his eyes aimed at the gardens below, unable to bear the pain of not seeing the stars you loved so dearly yet again, “The Niphredil constellation, is it shining brightly tonight?”
Under curiously furrowed brows Legolas once again eyed the sky confirming the presence of one of your favorites that had claimed its yearly chance to shine brighter, “Yes Ada. Just over the eastern tower.”
The King nodded, “Exactly where it’s meant to be. I hope she’s enjoying it, to ease her pain, at least.”
“Ada, Mithrandir gave his word, and Bilbo sent word, they had made contact and given her the instructions to the doorway.”
After a deep sigh Thranduil replied, clenching his fists on the thick marble railing, “Three months she’s been gone. And all the peace he can offer is to wait.” In a pained groan he turned to go back inside only to pause in the doorway at a soft flicker he caught in the corner of his eye. Slowly his eyes shifted to the glass reflecting small dots he got a clearer view of by shifting the door closer to him before he eyed the sky with parted lips. The small speckled reflected in his eyes, formerly absent since your parting drew a gasp from the Prince now growing an elated smile.
“Ada.”
A tear streamed down the King’s cheek as he whispered, “Thank Eru, our stars have returned.”
His eyes lowered to his beaming Son with a tear of his own streaking down his face, only to turn at the ghostly whisper signaling the appearance of the King of Dunharrow who bowed his head to the pair, “The Queen is nearly to Gondor.” The ghostly eyes scanned over them both, “I will pass the word to the Dwarves, she is calling to us.” Before questions could be asked the ghost King vanished leaving the pair to glance at one another before darting to the King’s closet to dress him quickly.
Deep in the Elven halls and the nearby green marble kingdom shouts for the preparations for marching to aid the stolen Queen filled each corner as all able and willing, except by direct order to remain behind for order or protecting the keep, the men readied to march. Though for all their eagerness the Dwarves could spare few, leaving simply the King and two advising Cousins, Balin and Dwalin alongside Bilbo readied to ride along with the Elf King and Prince leading their small legion of Elves ready to encounter anything. Nearly doubling when Lord Celeborn and Glorfindel joined them with even more protection for the Lords and Kings among them.
All watching the stars for the truest path as the Elf King relished the chance to see his most precious gift to you, once again promising his chance to hold you under them the first night he was able to share with you wherever he would find you. No matter what, his Queen was home.
