just posted something similar on main but i think i can explain better when i connect it to klaus so to my tua blog this thought goes.

bug like an angel (mitski) is so four "klaus" hargreeves coded

klaus is a lonely character. this is something that's true throughout all the seasons, and we can see how in each season he finds a new replacement for personal connections or worse; a replacement for the love he had lost with dave. in season one he had already been a drug addict (which i will touch on in another point), in season two he seeks solace in his "alternative spiritual community"/cult, and in season three he looks for (familial) love with his father.

going further on season three's replacement, i think that it is by far the most impactful (whilst not being particularly relavent to how he relates to the song, but i want to talk about it whilst i'm thinking of it). klaus looked for familial love with an alternate version of his father because, in part, i think he saw some of himself in that reginald. he saw someone who was constantly drugged and was treated as a joke by his family and was essentially discarded whenever he wasn't useful. sound familiar? of course, that reginald wasnt actually much like klaus, but it's easy to see how if you're desperate for someone, anyone, to connect to you'd strive hardest to find it in the father who never loved you. the father who's affections you've been starved of your whole life. anyways, moving on

i think the direction i'm taking this one is pretty obvious; dave.

throughout the show there's multiple (sometimes rather subtle) moments where klaus clearly wishes for nothing more than to be with dave again. in a cruel joke from fate, it's discovered that klaus cannot permanently die, which only makes it harder for him. i believe that part of why he has such a difficult time moving on is due to the fact that dave died. obvious point, i know, so let me explain further. with most relationships, they'll end mutually. be it a calm break up, cheating, a fight, family issues, etcetera; most relationships have something that can clearly be defined as an "ending point". klaus and dave never got this, especially since klaus can communicate with the dead. in theory, klaus could talk with dave whenever he wants (at least in season one he could), so it'd be hard to really consider the relationship as being over.

after dave dies (and before the slight time reset) klaus swears to go sober so that he can see dave. he finds during the torture scenes that the only way for him to speak with ghosts is to he sober, but he knows that (in that moment) he wouldn't be able to go through with it unless he's physically restrained. he made the conscious decision to reach out to diego for help, hoping he'd be able to go sober for dave. time is rewound slightly and his meeting with dave and the whole restraint thing is undone, causing klaus to make different decisions regarding his sobriety. he still tries, yes, but in the end he has to have the drugs physically slapped away from him. in season two he is also sober, albeit much more successfully. he, once more, comes horribly close to relapsing to drinking when he goes to the store and buys all manner of alcoholic beverages (although they are all dropped and promptly broken when he arrives at his home).

im choosing to interpret this lyric in the less literal way because i think thats more interesting to interpret with klaus. i've already touched on him seeking love in other forms, so i won't dwell on that, but it may be touched on.

klaus is at rock bottom, in season three we watch him lose basically everything. he lost his one and only love, he lost his cult (although the degree to which he wanted them is debatable), he misplaced his trust, and he lost all hope to see dave again. he knows that there's no use in it, yet he can't help but yearn to be with dave. deep down klaus knows that not only can he not die, but the dave in the new reality may very well be out there somewhere; along with the fact that he will never be klaus's dave no matter how much he wishes. he will never be truly happy again, no matter how much he wishes.

This first set already is just…WSHDMSMMF. The christianity symbolism. Canine symbolism. Saying she’ll destroy you as if she’s a god. One of the best part of timlex is that they both blame themselves for all the terrible things that happened. They both think that they will destroy the other.

Oh mu god. I think i hauve covid. This is the point in the song that i either zone out staring at the wall or start visibly tearing up. Again, could be taken from either point of view, cause theyre both just that miserable and in love.

These lines always distinctly reminded me of the end of the series. Where Alex and Tim are the only two left, and they know that no matter what, one of them will not be walking away from this alive. They both know its coming and that when it does theyll get their final judgement in the afterlife, something something religious references.

Them both feeling like theyre each the most to blame and hesitating to put any blame on the others like Jay or Brian or even Alex/Tim (depending on who’s pov). Back in an instance where theyre in love, i picture them completely devoted and especially in alex’s case, unwilling to think of tim as having done anything wrong. Alex sees all of his own actions as a betrayal of Tim trusting Alex to be around him.

Anyway yep 10/10 good song. Definitely makes me feel very normal and sane

Alex wiped his sweaty palms on his pants. Why was he nervous? The answer was right in front of him: you.

He watched as you began to play, the crowd applauding. He didn't care how much his ears rang from the volume of the excited crowd.

All he cared about was you.

"In the rearview mirror, I saw the setting sun on your neck.."

Your voice was so majestic, he swore he fell in love with you all over again. He listened to each lyric, head tilted.

He couldn't help but feel.. strange.

The way you glanced at him. The way your cheeks turned an obvious shade darker when you two made eye contact. The way his heart leaped to his throat and silenced his thoughts.

It all clicked.

That song was for him.

Alex's palms grew sweaty. His heart raced in his chest. His eyes nervously darted away. His cheeks grew red. A little voice in the back of his mind screamed at him to just say or do something. But, boy.. he took note of how many people there were. He needed to wait until the two of you were alone.

Eventually, the song came to an end and the crowd roared in absolute amazement. Alex pushed his way through the crowd until he reached the backstage area. He saw you, and his mind went blank.

It was now or never.

He approached you, anxiously fidgeting with his fingers. "Hey." He spoke up, catching your attention.

"Hi."

One simple word and gosh he wanted to just sweep you off your feet and hold you and kiss you.

"You were really good." Was all he could manage. You looked away bashfully, smiling. "Thank you. It took some practice, but I'm glad I actually got it. Was it obvious I was nervous?"

Alex chuckled. "No. You.. you looked really good. I-I mean, you-- you sounded really good."

You chuckled, running a hand through your hair. "..Nice save. And.. thank you. I.. uh.. actually sang that for you."

Alex could've sworn his heart melted right there and then and his mind went blank again. His suspicions were right.

"..really?"

You nod. Alex grew quiet, rubbing the back of his neck. "..Mitski, huh?" You chuckled, fidgeting with your fingers. Alex took a deep breath.

"I like you. A lot, actually."

You looked up at him. You thought, if you died right there and then you'd die elated.

"I like you too. Hence the song."

Alex chuckled. He rubbed his arm, then offered you his hand, which you gladly took.

Ah yes Shin, We love shin <3

He actually has a playlist! So that makes it easier for me! (sorry in advance for spelling or grammar mistakes as I am far to lazy to spell check this.)

Little pistol - Mother Mother

I think this song fits for a multitude of reasons. It states feeling scared, and afraid. Also the parts talking about brimstones and Roses reminds me of Kanna’s death! Also Gun terminology with Shin just feels right to me; considering the scene in the blue room where he asks for the gun, is a very important part of his character.

My Alcoholic Friends - The Dresden Dolls

This song I feel really reflects his relationship with the real Sou Hiyori/Midori, specifically the ending. “Should I choose a noble occupation? If I did i’d only show up late and sick.” He’s self employed. “And they would stare at me with hatred” He constantly assumes the other participants hate him. “Plus my only natural talents wasted on my alcoholic friends” His only natural talent being, well hacking. He wasted lots of time hacking with Sou.

The Stand - Mother Mother

I see this as conversations he’s had with Kanna. Just, the calmer ones. The way the reactions are fit him really well, kinda fast but explaining his thoughts fairly well. (Not much to say about this one really)

Be Nice To Me - The Front Bottoms

Another song that I associate with him & Sou! “But your a killer, and I’m your best friend” feels perfect. As Sou is a killer and Shin did see him as a best friend. Most of the song is about how the singer feels as though he gave everything to his friend to get very little in return. “Can we talk about this later, your voice is driving me insane” is a lyric thats used multiple times and that just fits how Shin feels about Sou really well I feel.
