favorite relationship (non romantic or otherwise) in the hp canon? one thing I love about lionheart is Harry and hermione’s friendship - criminally overlooked in the books imo pidgeonholing hermione into only the “nagging mum” role for so much of it ! these two are siblings!

interesting parameters! my favorite non-romantic relationship in canon is ron and harry, actually. i think that hermione has great friendships with both of them, but the sheer intensity of the bond between ron and harry is unmatched anywhere outside romantic pairings in the books. harry latches onto him basically at first sight and imprints like a baby goose, and goes, "excellent, at last, a Friend; i will now spend all of my time and attention on you Forever." what's that? hungry you say? sad you say? i will buy you All The Food. then draco "definitely homeschooled" malfoy rocks up with his hilariously incompetent friend overtures and harry says right that's cool, but you threw shade at ron, so you can fuck right off forever. i've had this weird little ginger in my life for less than a day and if anything happens to him i'd kill myself. bye.

and ron drinks! it! up! because he's never had it! he's never been First for someone before, and he LOVES it! and he responds by becoming an instant ride-or-die for harry. that's not a reading, either, that's straight up text: in book 3, ron says, verbatim, "if you want to kill harry, you'll have to kill me." and he's thirteen!! takes him about five minutes to get there, too — in the ten weeks they've known each other before christmas break, eleven-year-old ron weasley tells his MOM about his new cool friend, and whatever he writes is so glowingly effusive that molly knits harry a goddamn family sweater (if you knit, you Know) without having stone cold met the kid! not to mention — ron (at eleven! eleven years old, ron weasley!) decides to pass up his only chance to see his parents until june, not to mention missing his family christmas, so he can stay at hogwarts and keep harry company! because harry potter will never be lonely if ron weasley can help it!!

basically. ron and harry are the original platonic soulmates. they ARE the catherine-heathcliff "he's more myself than i am" dig-up-his-grave-so-you-can-lie-in-it type of love. they are each other's destiny and each other's choice.

#i have always been surprised that harry/ron isn't a bigger ship #not so much in Classic fandom but nowadays #because their chemistry is so great #ron is the only person who consistently makes harry laugh #harry can get ron to do basically anything just by asking #they are deeply and utterly married #there are MULTIPLE instances in the books where ron's importance to harry is paralleled to others' romantic relationships #not just in the second task #but at the yule ball — harry wants to take *ron* before mcgonagall tells him he needs to take a girl #which is okay whatever these books were written in the nineties sure. but bi!harry has been a popular headcanon for years now #and for some reason that moment never comes up in the evidentiary showings #like... yes we all know harry thinks about sirius being handsome Way Too Much... but he also thinks about ron being tall a LOT #is it my ship? not personally. but do i think it's valid as hell? hell yes.

so a few select people know that i've been working on these bad boys for a few weeks now. this collection started because @mortimerlatrice had the audacity to try and tell me that fem!kinn wouldn't wear skirts and dresses and i pretty much broke my tablet pen in the rush to prove her wrong. also i felt like redesigning my fem!kinn and fem!porsche ideas. beneath the cut are my thoughts on these outfits plus the fashion collections they're inspired by/referencing.

fem!kinn businesswear looks

fem!kinn i feel like is the type of person who weaponises her gender expression. every part of how she presents herself is a carefully cultivated power play. she smokes cigars and drinks scotch and can talk at length about stocks and cryptocurrency, but she wears high heels even though she had to teach herself how to run in them, has long hair even though styling it is a nightmare, and is never seen without make-up, because every part of her must straddle a line of being masculine enough to be respected without being dismissed as butch, or a transgressor of gender norms. so: power suits and heels.

most of these are just riffs on the show's suits, so no real reference images, though hilarious @elnotwoods and i managed to parallel brain the exact same corset + suit look bc we are bloggers of TASTE.

fem!kinn occasionwear looks

the product launch -- upon rewatching clips from this episode i realised that the product launch apparently has a roaring 20s theme? which be wildin'. i spent so long looking at pictures of 20s style dresses until i found eliza jane howell who is a tiny british designer who has an entire collection of 20s inspired gowns. the inspo for kinn's dress was the miranda dress from her eveningwear collection.

the diamond auction -- i've drawn fem!kinn in this dress before, and i stand by it. this is a dress from ralph and russo's fall 2015 couture collection, specifically look 12. i first saw this dress months ago when i was looking for clothes for a project i was working on and it's lived in my brain rent free since.

date night i and date night ii -- both of these dresses i saw on pinterest somewhere and forget to save the link bc when i do art i usually have abt 50 billion tabs open. (i make firefox weep each time i open a new one.)

looks that almost made it in: michael cors rtw fall 2022 look 24; and schiaparelli couture spring 2022 look 24.

fem!kinn misc looks

okay so the theme for this one was actually "iconic kinn looks" and you know what? the towel was iconic. there i said it.

the sleepwear look -- *cries in detail work* yes all that lace is hand-drawn YES MY WRIST ACHED SO BAD AFTER FINISHING IT, this one is just conjured out of my head, no inspo look

the suspenders -- real ones know which kinn look this one is based off. just google kinn in suspenders or something i guess because we were ROBBED that it wasn't in the show. ROBBED.

the towel -- since drawing it multiple ppl have told me that they think fem!kinn would just wear the towel on her hips, tits out, no shame, and they are all so valid.

family portrait -- when i was drawing this, i got sent a look by siv that i initially discounted because it was a skirt suit and fem!kinn all about those power suits. and then i was looking for thai designers and i saw the same look and i was like, "okay but she'd only wear this in a family portrait," and then i was like hhrrrrnngngn family portrait outfits for all of them, so now it's a category. this is a recoloured version of poem bangkok's fall 2022 rtw collection look 19.

fem!porsche "pre-kinn" looks

okay so my thoughts on fem!porsche are as someone for whom gender is almost an afterthought, whose main friends are all guys, who drinks bear and kicks ass and cuts her own hair whenever it gets too annoying, who buys male toilettries because they're cheaper, who's made a career out of being rich girl's experimental whirl into lesbianism, and who can get them off real easy but isn't so good at getting herself off. she's hooked up with her fair share of guys, and considers herself more of a male-leaning bisexual. like, girls are fun and all, but she tends to have a better time when she hooks up with guys. (kinn's gonna blow that out of the water, hahaha.)

the fighter outfit -- originally this was going to be just a sports bra + jeans, but then i saw a pic of a cropped hoodie and my brain just sort of blanked out and when i was done the art was finished. porsche's abs are very important to me. as are her arms. and her thighs. she's an itty bitty titty committee member tho and i stand by that.

the bartender outfit -- i've drawn this one before, but yes! all the buttons undone! cheapest black shirt and slacks! converse!!! YESS

the casual outfit -- bike shorts, big t, big shirt? yes. fem!porsche sits somewhere between jock and gonna-fix-your-appliances on a fashion basis and i am here for it.

fem-porsche "kinn era" looks

one of the big ideas i had going into this project was the idea that porsche feels divorced from her femininity in a way that she's not altogether satisfied with and that kinn helps her reconnect with it. because, like, let's be real: porsche has no major feminine influences in her life growing up, and she's literally always got bigger concerns. she defo plays up the idea that she's above it all, whilst also completely lost as to how to get to there. kinn is probably both an object of envy and attraction for her.

(also i have in my head that the sauna conversation goes something like: porsche: do you have a boyfriend, then? kinn: i've never once found a man that truly wants a powerful woman. porsche: huh, that's weird. i've had no trouble finding guys who want me to hold the up against a wall.)

anyway it's important to me that kinn makes porsche feel dainty and feminine.

the bodyguard look -- hrrrrngngng waist. that is all.

clubbing with tankhun -- you know how i said somewhere between jock and owns a monkey wrench? meet porsche out clubbing. love it for her.

first public date with kinn -- so the background i had imagined for this outfit was that porsche and kinn are going public, and kinn sends her a box with a dress to wear plus heels, only porsche can literally not stand for more than two seconds in the heels and hates them, so she wears her converse instead. this is almost a direct copy of look 12 from monse's spring 2021 rtw collection.

black tie date with kinn -- obvs this is a dress that kinn picked out for her, so i thought long and hard about what kinn would choose. in the end, i figured kinn would probably want her to look regal. i looked at so many dresses for this one, esp bc there was a secret requirement where i wanted the skirt to be loose enough that kinn could eat her out in it. look, i just think it would be gender if kinn dressed porsche up in this dress and porsche felt all pretty and feminine and then kinn ate her out in the bathroom at the event or something. you know. girl things. this dress is look 6 from valdrin sahiti's spring 2022 bridal collection and i had to download a pdf to get a reference picture, so appreciate my work. also shoutout literally the only time porsche is wearing heels. kinn had to give her like three hours of walking lessons.

fem!porsche minor family head looks

michael kors collection saved my bacon here. i really struggled to figure out what fem!porsche's overall aesthetic would be for her minor family head position. i wanted something distinct from kinn, but didn't think she'd go full androgyny. in the end i settled on a well-tailored suits with a military flare in their cut.

first business look -- this one is based on look 19 from michael kors collection's fall 2022 rtw collection. dem arms.

second business look -- same song, different verse. same collection, but look 7. the thigh-high boots were added by me, though. i wasn't drawing lesbian kinnporsche without putting one of them in thigh-high boots.

visiting mum -- a couple of things. this one is based on this photo i found on pinterest, because i just really liked the neckline. details you might miss: this is arguably porsche's most femme outfit here, but she doesn't have the perfectly styled hair that she has when she's on mafia business, and she's still wearing her ratty beat-up converse. she's feminine, but trying to be authentic. it's a specific kind of messaging she's trying to get across to her mum. she probably agonised for hours over what to wear. kinn definitely really likes her in it.

family portrait -- again, plucked from my own imagination. the original inspiration for this look was look 9 from altuzarra pre-fall 2020 but if you click that link you'll probably be able to tell i went completely off-script. the more i drew it, basically, the more the altuzarra look looked too japanese, which is understandable, because that collection's whole thing was about blending modern and traditional japanese fashion. in the end, i pivoted, and brought it more in line with kinn's look, because i really did want them to have similar vibes. (couples outfits? couples outfits!!)

near misses -- these ones almost ended up involved: altuzarra pre-fall 2020 look 6 for the family portrait; michael kors fall 2020 look 60 also for the family portrait; michael kors fall 2020 look 30 for minor family mafia business; look 17 from alexander mcqueen's 2011 pre-fall collection also for mafia business; this look from pinterest for mafia business that got discounted bc i was going in a different direction; and this dress from rouba.g's spring 2019 rtw collection for the black tie dress which literally only avoided inclusion here because i couldn't make the sheer fabric look right.

anyway the takeaway here is don't get into an argument with me because i will bring receipts. mort learned their lesson, don't worry.

now let's actually get into my favorite part of this movie

I don't think you need a genius to figure out that these are black folks LIKE LOOK AT THEM AND LISTEN TO THE QUEEN ESSENCE

guys the vas of the royal funk family are all black. ik maybe doesn't mean anything BUT MAYBE IT DOES ALR

anyways no matter what race the funk trolls may be they still play such an important role in this movie and let me tell y'all why and how

thru their encounter with the funk trolls, our pop trolls duo (yeah biggie left) learn three important things :

- differences do matter, they're a part of our identity and it would be wrong to ignore them

- even with those differences and origins, trolls still can be multiple/different things (ex.: cooper who says that he's pop AND funk, prince d who identifies as a hip pop troll which is not on poppy's outdated ass map)

- yeah that story poppy heard from the pop trolls' perspective?? yeah no that's not how it actually happened

explained beautifully by anderson .paak's song, the pop trolls stole all the strings, used them to make their kind of music and cut out the other trolls from the music scene

she does get the message at the end of the movie after finally meeting barb and speaking of her....

• barb is awful and that's what makes her a great character

as we all know barb's plan is so "unite" all troll nations under the rule of hard rock which is not uniting that's just assimilation

where poppy's desire for every troll to live together in harmony all united by music, barb's comes from a sense of superiority and maybe even pity

evident by every moment she steals a string, barb comments on the other trolls' music with insults which justifies why their music isn't real music while hers is

what's funny is that barb and poppy are very similar

they both really want to prove themselves as good queens, they desire for all trolls to be united and, even if poppy won't admit it, they both see their music as superior tho that degree of superiority is very different

where the similarities end are that barb doesn't want everyone around her to say what she wants to hear, she wants ppl to be real to her, meanwhile poppy refuses to hear anyone else's voice because it's different from hers

which leads to another difference between the two, poppy learns to listen to others because

"A real queen listens." (both said by her and branch)

Gideon Nav’s enthusiasm was not contagious, exactly, but it did strange things to her stomach. More importantly, Nav’s muscles seemed more suited to a gym than a classroom, and Harrow almost blurted out something stupid. Instead what came out was, “Are you sure you can teach math?"

It's Harrow's first day as a science teacher at Canaan Middle School, and already she's managed to alienate the (excpetionally attractive) math teacher.

Harrow stood with her back to the door, surveying her work appraisingly. It would do for now.

The bulletin board was mostly empty, but had been plastered over with dark-red-magenta paper. A bold black heading at the top read “Student Work.” Harrow had been advised early on that her classroom could not be decorated solely in black, grey, and bones, and she was attempting to give it a muted-rainbow aesthetic to compensate for her own style. Perhaps some middle schoolers would appreciate darkness, but she had learned that the majority of them did not. They felt safe and comfortable with soft fabrics and bright colors. Wimps.

In the back of her head was the voice of Harrow’s therapist: Have you considered that you look down on those who prefer softness because you wish you had been allowed to be soft growing up? As if Harrow had ever wanted to be soft! As if she wished she could have been vulnerable growing up! As if she had become a science teacher – as opposed to the orthopedic surgeon that had been expected of her – because she had wanted to protect children the way she had never been protected herself. As if!

A throat cleared before her, and she turned to find the soft gaze of Teacher, the principal of Canaan Middle School. He had another name, which she tried to remember out of some sort of decorum, and began to form on her lips – “Mr.–” but he seemed to catch her gaze and she broke off. “Ms. Nonagesimus, please, call me Teacher.”

Harrow nodded stiffly. “Teacher.”

The older man’s eyes turned to survey her classroom. “A fine job you’ve done with the room.” He turned and seemed to notice the small display of bones she’d created against the radiators, and an eyebrow upturned minutely. “Very educational, my dear. I anticipate our students will have many questions for you.” Harrow held back a slight upturn of her lips.

“Well done, well done,” he concluded, just as a voice called from behind him, “Teach!”

A large shadow loomed in the doorway behind teacher, and a large (impossibly large and toned) arm draped across the man’s thin frame. Following the arm came a ginger head, dark sunglasses, and an easy smile. Harrow’s breath caught in her throat, and she remembered the breathing exercises she’d practiced: four counts in, hold, four counts out, hold…

The tanned figure was saying something, and Harrow caught the end of it as she steadied her breathing: “… new science teacher? All right!” Teacher smiled, waved, and gracefully exited – traitor.

Suddenly a hand was thrust in her direction.

Harrow wanted desperately, more than anything in the world, to hold that hand. She was on count two of her exhale – three, four. Hold, two, three, four… She stared at the outstretched hand, willing herself to grab onto it. Her hand didn’t move. Breathe in, two, three, four…

It was too late. Gideon’s hand dropped back down to her side, and her face fell minutely. She put on a large, robust smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes, and ploughed on. “I’m Gideon – Ms. Nav, for the students, though gosh that seems so formal! – and I teach math. I’ll be your co-teacher, so we’ll share the same kids!”

I love that Death Stranding’s core message is essentially, “life is worth living and people are worth loving.” It’s easy to get lost in the details of its universe + characters and thus lose sight of that.

Death Stranding argues that life is worthwhile to fight for even if the world will inevitably end, because we’re still here. That people are worthy of empathy even if they’ve done horrible things, because it was their own suffering and moral efforts that led them there.

Die-Hardman was complicit in the murder of Cliff Unger and the causes of the Last Stranding. He can be forgiven because he loved Cliff and Bridget, never forgave himself, and dedicated his life to trying to make the world better, the only ways he knew how.

Higgs killed thousands and tried to end the world. He can be forgiven because he wasn’t of sound mind and is an abuse victim who never had a real opportunity to be better than he was.

Amelie sacrificed mothers and children for her own ends, and abused the two men who loved her the most. She can be forgiven because she can’t connect with human experience and made the selfless choice to be the sacrifice so humanity could have another chance.

Coffin was a terrorist that abandoned her daughter and radicalized a desperate, lonely young man into a life of violence. She can be forgiven because she believed it was necessary for the greater good, she took accountability for the harm she caused, and she loved those two kids more than anything else in the world.

The game doesn’t require you to forgive its characters, but it invites you to. It provides you with the reasons every given character became the way they are, and leaves it open to the player’s judgment. It asks, “maybe it wasn’t right, but can you understand?” It says, yes, this character did some very bad things, but can you love them anyway? Will you try?

DS argues that disconnection and isolation comes from a shortage of fellow empathy. That’s probably why Kojima went out of his way to retcon Higgs’ story and make his tragedy even more empathetic than it originally was. DS’s answer to social problems isn’t “be better,” it’s “learn how to forgive.”

Hell is other people. Heaven is each other.

If you had to make filler episode for aki I yugioh 5ds what would it be about?

Now I know she has had some filler episodes to her, but not much so I figure I ask

Assuming I would get only one filler episode, this is actually a pretty tough question—mostly because one-off filler episodes in 5Ds, especially those containing duels, usually can’t fit too much plot in them. If I could make just one filler episode for Aki (and if canon rewrites were not on the table), there’d be several candidates, topic-wise:

Aki’s first day back at the academy (show her actually reintegrating into normal society, possibly make her deal with the consequences of her actions as the Black Rose Witch by duelling an old classmate)

An actual, pre-finale duel between her and Sherry (win or lose, doesn’t matter, just actually use the setup their dynamic has for something god damn it)

Perhaps something to tie up the conflict with her parents nicely (this family has a lot of issues to work through and I wish canon had interacted more with that. Also, maybe let Aki duel her dad? Throwback to her childhood + opportunity to show she can now control her powers)

Literally any kind of episode that addresses how Aki figured out how to control her powers and/or an episode that digs into how she feels about them post DS arc (anything. Literally anything to make her reaction to losing them make more sense later. I beg you.)

An Iliaster encounter similar to Yusei’s run-in with Ghost and Jack’s face-off against fake Jack would have been nice for her. Not entirely sure on what kind would have suited her best, though.

If canon rewrites were on the table, I’d have one very, very obvious idea: Make the episode with the fussy vice principal at the academy about her, not about Yusei. Good opportunity to show how her academy peers feel about her, to let her show off her duelling skills, and to show the audience early that she can now control her powers. Bam. We could have had it all.

Now, if I had several episodes at my disposal though, Crashtown-mini-arc-style, my answer would also be very simple again: I’d do pretty much what I did with my fic To Bloom or To Wilt. Aki gets to find out Divine’s alive and faces him one more time. Perfect to show her character growth and to tie up the loose end that is the Arcadia Movement.
