friendswithbenefits!Sukuna x reader. Your friend Yuuji sets you up on a date with his co-worker to help you get over your recent slump, not knowing that his dear older brother had ended it months ago.
cw: none really, some possessive behavior
"He's really great though, I swear!"
"What does 'really great' entail, exactly?"
"Well he's nice! Like, super nice."
You waited to see if there was any more information and when there didn't appear to be any forthcoming, pushed your friend. "Yuuji, I'm going to need a little bit more than that."
Yuuji seemed to think about this for a second and as he did you snuck some dumplings off his plate. He'd taken more than his fair share of the take out anyway.
You loved Yuuji, he was one of the most genuinely kind people you'd ever met. He just happened to have terrible taste in men, aside from his own boyfriend.
"Well, when I got lost the other day, he gave me directions and they were super helpful!"
"Wait, did you find this guy on the street? Are you setting me up with a stranger?" It wouldn't surprise you, Yuuji tended to adopt human beings the way a normal person might adopt stray cats. You couldn't complain too much since it's how the two of you had ended up being friends, but it didn't necessarily mean that whoever he'd picked up off the side of the road this time was your one true love.
"No, no, he works in the school too. He teaches like history or something. He just teaches in the upperclassmen building, so I don't see him that much."
"So he gave you directions after you got lost in your own place of work?"
Yuuji either doesn't hear your tone or he chooses to ignore it. "Yeah, really nice dude. He's also good friends with Maki, so you know he must respect women."
That was actually pretty persuasive. Maki would never put up with any man who was a piece of shit, maybe there was something here.
"Is he cute?"
Yuuji scratched his head and tried to take some dumplings off your plate while you blocked him with your chopsticks.
"I mean I guess, he always looks kind of sad but you're into that right?" You blocked his attempts at stealing your dumplings with a little more aggression than necessary at that.
"I am not!"
Yuuji hummed unimpressed, chewing on the dumpling he'd managed to snatch away while you argued. Thief.
"He's like a little taller than me, pretty eyes and he's stronger than he looks. He actually beat me in some sparring matches last year when the teachers competed." You listened even as you scowled at the way Yuuji said all this with his mouth still full of stolen food. He swallowed and gave you a mischievous smirk. "He has really nice hands too."
"Yuuji!"
"They're big and his fingers are long but not too skinny, they kind of remind me of Megumi's-"
"Who the fuck are you talking about?"
You stiffened as Yuuji's older brother walked in, scratching his bare midriff since he seemed to have once again forgot that wearing shirts was an expected human behavior. Even though he was only a few years older than you and Yuuji, he always seemed larger than life. Maybe because you had known him for so long.
"Yuuta, this guy I work with," Yuuji said, pouting when his brother stole some of the food off his plate. Served him right. "Hey! I asked you if you wanted anything before I ordered it."
"And I told you, I don't want any of this garbage. I'm just sampling," Sukuna said as he popped another piece of chicken in his mouth.
"Go eat your stupid healthy food then and leave our garbage alone," Yuuji protested pushing the plate out of Sukuna's reach. Naturally, this led to Sukuna shoving Yuuji's head into the table as he reached over and stole more food off the tray in the middle.
"So why are you talking about Yuuta's hands anyway. You and Fushiguro finally call it quits?" Sukuna's tone was casual but you had once seen him knock out a guy for groping Megumi in a club. If the day came where Yuuji and Megumi actually broke up, you think he might take turns knocking sense into both of them.
"Mnat mor me."
"Huh," Sukuna said even as he kept Yuuji's face pressed to the table. You rolled your eyes.
"He's saying that he's not the one interested, he's trying to set me up with him." You tried to push down the guilt you felt as you spoke after all you had nothing to be guilty about.
There was a flash of something in Sukuna's eyes but it was gone before you could identify it and with one last shove that had Yuuji groaning, he let him up.
"That hurt, you bastard!"
"Not an insult, I'm literally a bastard," Sukuna said and Yuuji rolled his eyes.
"Whatever, anyway, back to helping you get laid-"
"Hey!"
"-I'll let Yuuta know you'll meet him at six?"
"Can you make it eight, only old people eat at six." Yuuji nods and goes to type something in his phone. There's an awkward silence that he doesn't seem to notice and you can't help but look at Sukuna who hasn't taken his eyes off you.
"Didn't realize you were so desperate," Sukuna says and Yuuji doesn't look up from his phone before throwing a punch at him. Sukuna dodges, his eyes still on you.
"There's nothing wrong with going on a date," you say and you wonder who you're convincing. "It has been a while since a nice guy took me out."
"Ah right, I forgot you liked nice guys." His tone is too knowing and you feel yourself flush.
"Stop picking on her, Sukuna. Don't you need to be going to the gym, anyway?" Yuuji asks, finally putting down his phone. He seems to attribute the current tension for you and Sukuna's usual animosity. You wonder if that's all there is to it. Sukuna scoffs and walks back to his room. You still weren't sure why he'd even come out in the first place.
"Whatever, you two have fun planning the wedding," he says, his tone making your hackles rise.
"Say hi to Uraume for me," Yuuji calls back, oblivious. "Tell them I still want a rematch after last week."
Sukuna waves a hand before shutting the door to his room. Yuuji turns back to you and the two of you talk about other topics while your mind wanders.
You weren't doing anything wrong. Were you?
You and Yuuji decide to meet up with Megumi and Nobara for a movie before you need to get ready for your date. While Yuuji goes to his room to change, you head to the kitchen to clean up the remains of lunch.
You're putting some glasses in the sink when you feel a warm presence at your back. You can't hold back your sigh as a familiar pair of thick arms comes to wrap around your waist and a pair of lips presses gently against your neck.
"I haven't seen you in forever," Sukuna murmurs, the movement of his lips against your neck sending a familiar pulse of want to your core. You tell yourself not to let the soft gesture get to you. He never did shit like this without a purpose and his usual purpose isn't going to be fulfilled with Yuuji in the next room.
"You saw me last week, Sukuna," you remind him before leaning away from him to close the dishwasher. His hands slip down to your hips and you just know he's staring at your ass. You roll your eyes even as he pulls you back to him once you're standing. His hands pressing into the curve of your hips, putting pressure on them in that way that makes you melt.
"That's too long, princess. I was getting lonely," he teases and you feel him smirk against your cheek. "You must be lonely too."
"Actually I'm just fine," you tell him but you tilt your head so he can kiss the skin of your face, your neck, the parts of your shoulders revealed by the stretched collar of your old t-shirt. You let him lull you into a false sense of security before he reminds you why that's a bad idea.
"Really? I just assumed you felt lonely and that's why you were agreeing to go on dates with losers you've never even met."
There it was. This was why you couldn't let Sukuna get soft with you. He never did it without returning your vulnerability with malice.
"Sukuna," you say and you go to pull his arms off you but he pushes you into the counter, you wince as the cold stone presses against your body. "Let go of me." Your tone is calm even as emotions band their way across your throat.
"I would, but you seem to get lost when I let you out of my sights. I mean you're going to go on a date with some high school teacher?"
"Your brother literally has the same job?"
"Well, are you going to fuck my brother too?"
"For fuck's sake, Sukuna, get off me!"
Sukuna does let you go but only so he can turn you to face him.
Sukuna doesn't get mad the way normal people do. Usually he's just amused, maybe even mildly annoyed, but blatant rage isn't his thing. After your years of-acquaintanceship? light antagonism?-friendship, you recognized this as the stage where he was about to make his insults increasingly personal until you needed to go cry in the bathroom later.
"We are not dating," you tell him and he rolls his eyes.
"Obviously."
"Therefore, I can go on dates with other people."
"I don't give a fuck if you go on dates with other people."
"Great, because I'm going to go on this date tonight."
"Good for you."
"Yes, yes it is good for me!"
"You seem really happy with your choices," Sukuna goads in that tone of his. You hate that tone.
"I am. I don't plan on just accepting whatever scraps some loser will throw me when there are actually decent guys who want a real relationship."
Sukuna narrows his eyes at you. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"I wasn't being subtle," you tell him before leaning back against the counter. Going for casual, knowing you're not quite hitting it. "Don't worry, I don't hold it against you. You can't give what you don't have, you know?"
"No, I don't know," Sukuna bites out and if he was anyone else, you would think you'd hurt his feelings but this wasn't anyone else and there was no way something you said bother him.
"You're just not a relationship person and that's-that's fine, I knew that before we started this thing. It's just, sometimes I want more." You soften your tone from earlier but it doesn't do anything to relieve the tension between the two of you.
"And this, Yuka is going to give you that?" He sounds bitter and he's not touching you. You'd been the one to tell him to back off but you couldn't remember the last time he hadn't had his hands on you in some way when it was just the two of you.
"I think his name was Yuuta," you correct before his expression tells you this is the wrong step.
"Right, okay. You know what, you go on your date and have the best time with Yuuta. I got places to be."
He brushes past you and goes back to his room just as Yuuji opens the door to his.
"Geez, what's his problem?" He asks as he makes his way over to you. You shrug your shoulders and he takes your lack of response as just your normal discontent with his brother and wraps his arm around your shoulder. "Don't let him get to you, he's just a dick."
"I know," you tell him and you do. You know Sukuna's true nature better than most.
You two make your way out of the apartment so you can make your movie and you try to ignore the guilt you feel as Yuuji talks to you.
"You know, he's actually been in a better mood the past few months. I think he might actually be seeing someone. Can you imagine who would be crazy enough to actually date that asshole?"
new series? wrote this to get the rust off so we'll see.

Ok we should talk more about sokka and aang because these two dumbasses are adorable together! Underrated relationship
The gag with Katara and blind Toph in season 3 is still the funniest scene in the series lol
yeah their friendship very cute. i like how when they're left to their own devices their respective adhd tendencies combine, that feels very true to my relationships with my friends who also have adhd lol. it's also just really adorable how through aang's sheer lovability, sokka learns to loosen up a little and appreciate life (somewhat, sometimes) in a more relaxed, content way. aang is a really good and highly valuable influence on everyone around him, especially as he counteracts the logic of war and its necessity for violence, which is an ideology sokka not only heavily subscribes to, but to which he attaches his very personhood. aang reminds sokka that he is still a child (he reminds katara of this too, but it happens in the literal pilot, whereas sokka's journey to literally enjoying himself ever is far more gradual and grueling). aang reminds sokka that he is human.
that said, i do think that people tend to be reductive when talking about the value of their relationship. not to single you out specifically, but i do kind of take umbrage with the notion (perhaps unintentional) that all their dynamic is good for is being adorable and funny. calling them "dumbasses" because they can be silly and goofy sometimes, or scatterbrained and absent-minded. i genuinely think that aang and sokka constitute one of the most interesting foils in the entire show. normally when we talk about character foils, we talk about characters who are positioned in opposition to each other, but aang and sokka are fascinating because they're allies (and friends) who nonetheless approach the same problem with the same intentions and the same goals but from completely different angles.
in many ways, sokka is aang's most distinct opposite. but first, to address their similarities: they're both victims of a genocidal imperialist project that has burdened them with a responsibility to their people that they are too young and barely equipped to handle; they are both expected to shoulder this burden easily by those around them due to their nature as "gifted" child prodigies with distinctly unique skillset and an unprecedented ability to absorb and apply new information that they learn at a genuinely abnormal rate (remember that aang is not just the avatar, but an incredibly prodigious avatar at that; he mastered all four elements within less than a year by the age of twelve, whereas most avatars take at least another four years to master their elements); they are both the "leaders" of their small guerrilla militia of child soldiers, and they take turns giving each other guidance and trusting and following the other's lead; they both consider katara the central figure in their lives and love her with an almost obsessive devotion; they both repress their grief and other unpalatable emotions through humor and constant distraction, and sometimes even depersonalize entirely when they feel that their goal is more important than retaining their humanity (sokka does this more frequently, but when aang does it, it's more blatant); and of course, they both harbor massive guilt complexes for the devastating tragedies (largely beyond their control) that have shaped their lives, and are constantly replaying those moments of "failure" as that of acute shame to motivate themselves as they strive to rectify and "atone" for their past errors.
so, as you can see, reducing their friendship to "adorable dumbasses" is already not very interesting. to me, the best aang and sokka scenes aren't the ones wherein they are playing and goofing around together. those scenes are sweet and charming, of course, but the best aang and sokka scenes are the ones wherein sokka is positioned as the logical consequence of aang's grief. wherein present-day sokka becomes the worst case scenario for a hypothetical future aang. in many ways, their friendship is incredibly bittersweet, because it is also punctuated by moments wherein sokka threatens aang's entire value system and quote-unquote "innocence" through attempting to mold him into a Man Of War the way he does those hapless toddlers in his village. for all that sokka is remarkably open-minded and receptive to new ideas, he cannot see past the limits of the world he was born into and the mechanisms and assumptions of violence he was forced to internalize and embody. aang is, of course, totally unique in his ability to not only envision a world beyond the war (i would argue that katara has the ability to do this as well), but also to have actually experienced it. and so it is truly a testament to aang's resilience that he is almost entirely impervious to sokka's ruthless, militaristic logic, even as sokka constantly attempts to enforce it.
i have a much longer post in my drafts about how aang and sokka are positioned in "the serpent's pass" (one of their best episodes in terms of their dynamic, also just a highly underrated episode in general), so i'm not gonna get too much into it here, but katara's relationship to aang as paralleled with suki's relationship to sokka is really fascinating in this episode for the ways in which it also positions katara's grief over witnessing aang's attempt to detach himself from his grief to focus on his goals and aang slipping into "sokkahood," and the absolutely devastating implications of what that must mean for katara. i think there's a strong case, in general, for the reading of katara attempting to replace her lost childhood (with sokka) through aang as he represents a vehicle for her overly idealized nostalgia (much like how zuko projects onto aang and views him as a vehicle to return to that site of his overly idealized childhood), and thus, quite literally, replacing sokka with aang. to katara, aang possesses what sokka has since lost, or perhaps something he never got the chance to have in the first place. and that isn't to say that katara views aang as a brother, but rather that katara longs for companionship in any form, and what is aang if not the ideal companion? so aang's grief and rage scares her not only because it pains her to see someone she loves so deeply in so much pain, but also because it reflects her own pain back at her, as someone who has lost so much, including family members (also including kanna and hakoda) who are, ostensibly (at least physically), still alive.
one of the most fascinating scenes between sokka and aang in the entire show is when sokka straight up attacks aang for burning katara in "the deserter." katara is very clearly affected by this beyond simply the physical pain; being burned by the weapon that killed her mother is explicitly triggering for her, and she retreats into herself and sobs like a child (she is a child, but you know what i mean. an even younger child). and sokka in turn is triggered by katara being triggered, because his entire existence revolves around his oath to protect her, and she was just hurt by the one person to whom she stakes all her hope and pride and joy and affection above all. aang obviously understands the gravity of this accident immediately; it of course wasn't intentional, but he nonetheless takes full accountability and apologizes sincerely. but sokka only calms down somewhat once he knows for certain that katara is okay. and instead of going to find katara as she sobs, he spends all his focus on yelling at aang, throwing him to the ground, more furious than we have ever seen him. and in a way, it's clear that he's also furious at himself, for having let his guard down around and trusted aang, and for his failure to perform his primary duty, protecting his sister. the fulcrum of aang and sokka's relationship is, necessarily, katara. she is the force that brings them together, and the person who is most important to either of them, but she also person who connects them in her mind, and so our perceptions of them as the audience are primarily informed by her perception of them as the narrator.
moreover, sokka's advocacy for killing zuko (in "the siege of the north") and ozai (in "sozin's comet") constitute two more fascinating scenes with aang, for the way in which sokka does not even find the act of killing something to flinch at, let alone an absolute betrayal of core principles and values the way aang does. killing is simply not something sokka feels guilty about, despite the fact that he seems to carry guilt over simply existing a lot of the time. and that juxtaposition, between aang and sokka playing together, of sokka learning how to have fun and entertain his little friend, versus sokka chastising aang for refusing to commit murder, is what makes their relationship so compelling. when people reduce their dynamic to its most comedic and innocent mode, they are reducing their roles as they embody two opposing relationships to violence, and how that reflects their ideological positions as someone who has subscribed to imperialist logic insofar as his values have been shaped by war, as opposed to someone who knows through his own experiences to refute that logic by any means necessary. when we talk about aang helping sokka to regain his humanity, it is crucial to understand specifically how sokka lost his humanity in the first place, but also why aang specifically is so crucial in counterbalancing his logic in a way no one else alive actually can.
ultimately, if sokka represents the voluntary auto-dehumanization of the colonized subject, then aang represents the potential of preservation and even reclamation of humanity and the imaginative potential of a world[view] beyond those colonial limits. their ideological conflict is not simply one of what it means to be human within a colonized paradigm, but what it means to exist at all.

Hey I have a possibly another, better..? idea👀 it's a Slenderbeing reader! but they like to travel the world, a LOT. and usually in their human form. but they are so in depth with their magic's capabilities it's almost near impossible to detect any magic sauce from them, it's like they are truly a regular human being. until they reveal themselves and give everyone a heart attack😂
The slender reader is also like a runt, they hate the height difference compared to average Slenderbeings, but low-key likes the attention :P
Any characters! Have fun n take your time!! :D
Various characters with a slender-being reader!
Again so so so so sorry for taking so long to get to this :(
I've kinda been mostly checked out mentally this week and the past 4 days spiderverse has taken over my brain and
Sobs
Anyways! Most of these are platonic leaning, but that's mostly because I couldn't think of anything explicitly romantic <\3 these also may be
Short since I'm kinda
Dry brain
No gifs for each character since it lags my phone and I ain't dealing with that rn <\\3
Tumblr media
Slenderman:
Head tilt
Of course he knew he and his brothers weren't the only slender-like.. beings in this world
But he didnt expect to see another (that wasnt splendor or trender) enter his woods... that and he also. Never really left his woods save for a few occasions.. never really met another creature like him outside family
Huh
Hes curious, of course! He himself can only talk so much about his day to day life, being more or less binded to his forest.. so hes willing to let you talk his non existent ears off
Likes making crafts for you that remind him of your stories
Doesnt particularly favor one form over the other; though with that said he almost offed you when you first waltzed in, disguised as a human
Makes him realize he... doesn't know how to do that..
Splendorman:
Oooh how cute! You're so tiny!
On the flip side, hes met dozens of slender-beings, due to him bouncing around just about everywhere
Doesnt make fun of your height, bullying isnt cool!!
You both exchange stories about places you've been and things you've done
Sits down and looks at you with so much interest when its your turn to speak
Finds both of your forms adorable
Laughing Jack
"I didn't even know they made them this size!"
Ljs already a little shit, but hes going to be even more of a little shit around you being a runt
He'll try not to take it too far, but hes definitely got a problem with his filter
Due to him being bound to his box and being passed around Lj only has so much experience with different kinds of people
So even though he'll crack jokes and interrupt, he's willing to listen to a story or two
You can still be taller than him and he'll still tease about your runt status <\3
Eyeless Jack
"Oh.. huh.. you're like.. that one guy,"
In my au he lives in the same woods as slenderman but they hardly interact and when they do it's barely civil
Both are very possessive of their areas so... yeah
Asides slender you're the only slender-being hes met; he wont even know you're a runt unless you bring it up
If you do he'll just
Not care, I mean hes short too so??
Has a weird.. vicarious thing going on with your story
Hes condemned himself to being a hermit due to his curse, so he ends up naturally.. doing that with your stories and makes small suggestions on where you should go next
What having your normal life snatched away does to a mf
Masky & Hoodie
"Mini boss?" "Mini boss"/j
Masky is.. well my take on him hes a little.. funky.. bro is likely watching you from a distance and not really.
Interacting
Kinda freaks out when you reveal your true form
Hoodie is a little more tame and open than masky, kinda just
Signs and asks questions but he isnt too social
"Why are you so short??"/j
Honestly I feel like these two would take a long time to warm up; they're already distant enough with slender
Idk, I really dont have any ideas for these two 💔😔☝️

And I think the fact that sienna, the white fang civil rights leader who actually cared about the cause but was willing to use violence to achieve it gets killed off and her worldview barely gets acknowledge
Also I think crwby straight up compared the white fang to the black panther movement/organization?
Wether we want it to or not the show did initially frame the white fang subplot as violence vs non-violence
Plus ghira getting mad tgat adam killed a member of a lynch mob because “this is why they think they can” tells me ghira is on sone level focused in what humans think of Faunus,
Not helping that ghira gets put in charge again without having changed whatsoever
I hate to say it but intentionally or not, the idea that an oppressed minority need to “prove themselves” in any way to their oppressors is kinda racist, it’s at least problematic
Heck it’s a double standard “that we see in the real world as well” that Faunus can be branded like Adam or killed in mines like ilia’s parents to by humans like Jacques, yet humans as a whole don’t need to “prove” they aren’t him,
Because, quite frankly, most humans are entirely permissive of what Jacques and the SDC do
Yeah, Sienna's worldview is barely acknowledged. That's part of the failure to discuss racism and if responding to it with violence is justified or not.
Barbara Dunkleman, who is not a writer, said this
Barbara Dunkelman: So if anybody needs, like, a comparison for what the Faunus are in this world, it’s kind of like if you’re in the 1930s, or 1940s, whatever, and it’s like, the way African-American people were viewed.
Someone else (I can’t identify the voice): You mean like 50s and 60s, like Civil Rights Movement and stuff?
Barbara Dunkelman: Yeah.
Faunus are related to the American civil rights movement. They're certainly not viewed as poorly as African American people were viewed in the 50s and 60s, but they are still viewed and treated poorly and it is still based off of the American Civil Rights movement.
It's not 1:1 Black Panthers though. Sienna KINDA reminds me of them but not too much, Adam definitely doesn't.
The only time it was framed as violence vs nonviolence was in Blake's talk with Sun about why she left. As mentioned, that talk is about why she left, not what the White Fang is doing now. Even as early as Volume 1 and 2 it was clear that the White Fang wasn't fighting for equality.
Blake: The White Fang is hardly a bunch of psychopaths. They're a collection of misguided Faunus.
Weiss: Misguided? They want to wipe Humanity off the face of the planet!
Blake: So then they're very misguided. Either way, it doesn't explain why they would rob a Dust shop in the middle of downtown Vale!
Roman: I'm glad you asked, "Deery"! Now, I'll be the first to admit, humans... are the worst. Case in point. So, I understand why you would like to see us all locked away, or, better yet, killed!
So yeah, the White Fang was always an organization dedicated to just killing and hurting humans. In the past, it fought for equality, which is shown in Volume 1 through Blake's backstory, but it's never states that the White Fang currently fights for equality. The reason Blake left is that she didn't want to take part in the violence anymore (she never says they were wrong to resort to violence though, she just personally didn't want to be the one pulling the trigger), but the goal of the White Fang is no longer equality, as evidenced by Weiss and Roman.
You may say Weiss isn't well informed, which is true, but if she was wrong, why didn't Blake correct her? Roman is literally speaking at a White Fang rally when he says the line cited above, so he clearly knows what he's talking about.
Onto the next point...
Ghira wasn't upset that Adam fought back, he was upset when it got lethal. Ghira has a point, by killing humans, you're giving the humans an excuse to hate you more, regardless of how justified it was. It's something you wanna avoid at all costs. It's unfortunate, but it's the truth.
Ghira is put in charge of the White Fang again, only after he assembles an entire army to stop a terrorist attack in the making. I think it's pretty clear that he's past all the solely peaceful stuff.
The message is that the Faunus need to dispel racist ideas by proving them incorrect. I don't see how that's racist or problematic. Minorities should play a part in proving racist ideologies wrong.
Bear in mind that the Faunus aren't "proving themselves" as in repenting for past mistakes and whatnot, they're "proving themselves" as in "your racist idea that the Faunus are all murderers and terrorists is wrong." No Faunus apologizes for how the White Fang treats humanity. The whole thing is basically a big "you're blatantly wrong" to racist generalization that is extremely hard to ignore.
I don't see how it's racist to promote minorities proving racist ideologies wrong.
Humans in the show already prove that they aren't like Jacques by literally arresting him. They don't condone his exploitation. Hell, his own daughter doesn't condone it.
Most humans are, but by proving racist ideas wrong, the hope is that they will become less racist and ultimately oppose Jacques.

we need to talk about common comic opinion for the boys
so i read the comics.
was curious for a while, buddies wanted to do it, finally bit the bullet and MAN OH MAN~<3
there's common opinion that swirls around from people who *have not read the comics* need i remind, an opinion that they are merely *meaningless edgelord drivel* or the like.
i'm here to bust that misconception, smack it upside the head and drag it around the fuckin' town and kick it till it's caved in because it couldn't be more *wrong* if it tried.
first thing i'll say is that the comics *don't* compare in what you'd call 'gratuitous edginess' to the show. while they have their 'bit on the nose moments', they're drawings that go panel by panel. even what they *could* show wouldn't compare, and it honestly doesn't. (coming from someone who's also watched the show too many times over now and got a nice fresh read in)
robin's death is more brutal *in the show*. there is more blood and gore. *in the show*. the arguably edgiest thing between both of them is a guy exploding another guy from inside his urethra, which *only happens in the show*
and for those that have no clue about the big twist or comics homie and try to make blocks of analysis for a character they have zero actual information or decent research on.
homelander is worse. *in the SHOW*.
granted, both have similar enough structure with reversed character development/reveal, but i digress
butcher is just THE biggest fucking bottom by the way, lord satan i CAN NOT with that boi--
anywho~<3
the 'meaningless' part? well that's just a big fat lie and i'll say it up front. that shit needs to stop. this thing was definitely an emotional rollercoaster, and while it may be true that it's not for everyone, it was far from meaningless and actually brilliantly written and even researched.
it's raw, it feels real half the time, it teaches valuable lessons, and even when you're in the notion of 'okay, where is this going, it's sus', when you stick with it? you get rewarded fucking beautifully.
there are moments you'd disagree with the characters actions in a way that makes them feel humanly flawed. of course they might do the wrong thing or say the wrong thing, so do real life humans?? there are cross cultural miscommunication references and conversations that show ennis knew what he was doing and why he did it a certain way. and yeah, it can be too much to handle for some,
*but if you honestly feel that way you shouldn't be watching the show either*
and here's what it's not.
meaningless, ill-thought, pointless, edgelord drivel.
it *is* an intricate and well done, brutally *honest* creative critique of the *military industrial complex*, *corporate capitalism*, and a couple other things expertly squeezed in. even touching on *abuse* and hitting all the right spots for how it can psychologically fuck with people. the ending punches you in the fucking feels as you could appropriately expect it to with a hard side of begrudged satisfaction.
good fucking satan these things were an excellent read that compelled me to want moar from start to finish, and yeah, if you have watched the show then i *highly* recommend them because the important topics and themes touched on are presented much better in the comic, even with the sometimes wonky ass art in place of hawt actors to distract you, lmao
but seriously? the lot of you that keep spouting nonsense from your clenched up assholes without actually bothering to look at the source material need to stop. all you're doin' is actin' damn fools and showing off high and mighty opinions based on complete mis-education if not un-education.
and f.y.i.... also being the damn fools both the comics AND show make fun of.
so remember that line billy says?
'but the main reason you don't hear about it is cause the public don't want to know about it.'
that's y'all. legit, at this point. more specifically, y'all would be the 'public' that wants to live with rose tinted glasses instead of acknowledging that reality is more brutal than we often want to see or admit.
why else would you keep denouncing and dismissing the comics and source material of something you allegedly love?
because some other schmuck on the internet said a lie, gave you hearsay, or a rumor they heard through a grapevine on a game of telephone that said it wasn't worth looking into yourself?
well i'll call bullshit on that straight up but what are y'all so afraid of??
couple other things i will say, if you hate butcher for being the biggest worldclass cunt, you will absolutely feel vindicated and have your feelings or possibly lovehate boner (like mine~) completely validated with what happens in these comics (and if i'm being honest about the direction of the show, weeeeelllll...~<3 lemme not tho lmao<3 still def the biggest bottom, out bottoms hughie by far, i wanna see him get railed by vas/love sausage)
i will also say, billy is 100% wrong in the comic and the show is slowly but surely unraveling that truth there as well, if it's not clear enough by now. what he does isn't for becky/becca, and definitely not for ryan either. it never was.
it's for his father, no i will not elaborate cause read the damn comics. (but also, people need to stop fucking forgetting that HUGHIE is the *actual* good guy here, not billy... billy is a bad guy... billy is objectively worse than homelander in many MANY canon ways and remember that reverse character development i mentioned--.)
contrast, if you *love* butcher, you will likely be disappointed in the show, but the comics will help prepare you for it (they also make too many things CLEAR)
unfortunately, you do not get sweetheart noir in this and while i love his show counterpart, bearing with cunt 9000 noir is worth it. (it also sparked fic ideas for me cause why not both~<3)
LOVE SAUSAGE IS UNREAL AND PERFECT~<3<3<3 if nothing else, comics love sausage at least deserves your full attention.
homelander's as always is a fun boi, show homelander by comparison is basically *final stage* comics homie (full throttle evil berserk type shit/just before it hits) take everything you thought you knew about (comics) him, and throw it out the fuckin' window.
boi does some fucked up shit... and ALSO has fucking mental breakdowns and visceral reactions like throwing up to doing evil shit because he literally can't stomach it and is trying to convince himself that he is the bad guy because he's been gaslit--.
and i'ma stop there. read the fuckin' comic if you actually wanna know just how deep that homie rabbit hole goes.
and i will absolutely use the idea of him having legit *adverse reactions to doing evil shit* in a fic because FUCK. YES. that was a sad but lovely detail and would make for a perfect fuckin'a alibi<3
anywho~<3, if you recognize he's a victim in the show? the comics. read them cause OOOOOHHHH--.

3, 4, and 12 for Mashal and Astra
I answered three here, but yeah four and twelve!
How would they describe each other if asked? Physically? In personality?
Mashal describing Astra: "She's beautiful. Maybe not beautiful like a painting, but beautiful like a piece of street art that you know you'll never see the equal of again. She has long curly hair, the color of spilled ink. Her skin is a teakwood brown, with patches across her mouth and right eye the color of fresh snow. Likewise, one eyebrow and one lock of hair in the middle of her forehead are ivory white. Her eyes remind me of the color of a bluejay, probably because they're so bright and always moving. The right one is a bit paler and grayer than the left. Usually, she wears colorful makeup. She always has a smile or a scowl or a frown; she isn't coy with her feelings. Her stature is short and curvy. I could go on. As a person, she's loud about everything. She's loud about what she loves and hates, loud when she tinkers, loud when she tells stories to make me laugh. There's just so much spirit to her. Even if that, uh, gets us in trouble sometimes. No, I won't pretend she can't be a little much on occasion. But it's all done out of good intentions, and better too much than not enough, right? She's the greatest mage I know; not just for her skill, but for her compassion, her intensity.... Oh gods, I've been talking for too long, haven't I?"
Astra describing Mashal: "Well, it ain't exactly on the outside what matters, cause that ain't him, but I reckon an overview can't hurt none. He's damn tall. Taller than ya think, and broad too. A machine built for war. His platin' is bronze, and he usually keeps it at a pretty shine, only a little rust 'round the joints. Underneath, his chassis is steel, with runes and hydraulics beneath that. Now, he's had two faces in his time; the first that visionless bitch Vermir made, the second I got from a friend a' mine. Vermir's face was shoddy work - just two glass discs for eyes and a slit mouth. His new face is much perdier. It's got a nose and cheekbones and all the bell n' whistles. The eyelids, eyebrows, and corners a' the mouth even move! He usually wears some sorta head scarf on account a' I think he's embarrassed 'bout not havin' any hair. His clothes are pretty baggy too - metal joints snag somethin' fierce on tight fabric. He's always tryin' to hide all that shiny bronze, even though he takes such good care of it. Mashal hides lotsa things. Not exactly the sort you'd expect to do that, huh? He hides how much magic frightens 'im, how much being in this improper form hurts, hides how deep his hate runs. The one thing he never hides though, is how much he cares. If you mean somethin' to Mashal, he'll let ya know. He's an honest man and he trusts freely - maybe to freely. I mean, he trusts me and that one helluva gamble. Gods, he's a good man, though. The best. The best man I've ever known."
Do they have any affection for each other? How do they show it?
Mashal cared for Astra first as the person who saved his life and offered to help him fix it, then as the woman he fell secretly in love with. He has a deep affection towards her. Maybe some of that is just the fact that she was the only person who really talked to him when he woke up, but what love blooms separate from its particular circumstances, even if those are more normal ones? He shows his affection by listening to her stories, helping her with magic, and generally spending time with her. Very much a quality time guy.
Astra cared for Mashal at first due to nothing but basic human dignity. She found him on the side of the road half-dead; of course, she was going to help him. Later, as they spent time on the road and bonded over stories, he became her first real friend in the whole of her adult life. Astra was a very lonely person for a long time. Mashal broke her out of that, and she will forever love him for it, even if she hasn't realized the true direction of that love yet. Her shows of affection are very much gift-based. A new set of hand embroidered clothes, a movable face after she noticed he didn't like his old one, an awesome sword arm. Gifts are Astra's love language.
Thanks for the asks! These two are the only proper couple I've ever written, so I kinda gotta gush over them being cute <3

sorry but i'm so ILL over zhaolu like 😭😭 someone give the anon who started this a gold star because ohmy GOD they GET IT, the perfect partner for lucifer WOULD be a single father, ESPECIALLY one like zhao, GOD
abyway pls spare zhaolu hcs 🥲 🤲 (if u have time of course!!)
i will ALWAYS make time for my favourite silly men, please take these!!
they're both overworkers who hate seeing the other overwork themselves, so in the beginning they're both constantly reminding with each other to stop working so much, while simultaneously working too much
zhao thinks lucifer has it harder because he sucks at paperwork so he can't fathom having to do that much; lucifer thinks zhao has it harder because he cannot imagine doing all that housework while simultaneously wrangling his brothers, even if he's good at it
lucifer is always telling zhao off for doing all the household chores for his younger brothers, because they will absolutely take advantage of his willingness to help if they've got something else to be doing
the only exception is satan, who determinedly does his share of the chores and scolds the others when they try pawning theirs off on the poor guy
belphie does do it as well but he always feels super bad afterwards
(zhao acting as stepdad to satan and belphie especially has now become canon To Me if you haven't noticed yet)
one time they accidentally swapped glasses but somehow didn't notice, even though zhao's eyesight is significantly worse than lucifer's
zhao has this problem where his blood pressure drops like a ROCK if he goes too long without eating, but he's usually very good about managing it. keyword being usually: one time he lost track and passed out because he stood up too fast
this has never happened since because lucifer (though he was very good at hiding it at the time) panicked so hard that the incident is burnt into his memory and now he's hyper-vigilant about it
it's kind of ironic that this is lucifer's first relationship and zhao's second, given a demon vs human lifespan
lucifer's not really sure how to feel about it. on the one hand, the idea of ik's mother coming back into the picture does make him seethe a little bit, but on other, he trusts that zhao wouldn't be with him if he hadn't fully moved on
i've mentioned before that zhao doesn't realise he's bi until he's in the devildom - to elaborate on that, at first he was just like "woa...... handsome men" and thought it was a completely normal thing. you know, just appreciating good looks when you see it
then the handsome men started being good with his daughter and he was like "...wait a minute"
now zhao thinks his husband is the most beautiful man in the entire world, and while this is heightened by, yknow, love, it's also true that lucifer's just an objectively good-looking guy
meanwhile he considers himself very plain by comparison, and is he is indeed pretty average by societal standards
HOWEVER. if you're into the pathetic shabby dad look. which lucifer is, apparently. he might just be the hottest guy you've ever met
lucifer did not realise he had a type before this
particularly in the early stages of their relationship, the others learn not to let either of them talk for too long interrupted in council meetings because they just start staring at each other and not doing any work
zhao has a habit of accidentally doing something kind of suggestive without thinking of how they could be taken - one time he undid the first few buttons on lucifer's shirt because he was worried about him being uncomfortable in that formal getup, and lucifer thought about it for the ENTIRE rest of the day
i think lucifer in general is just so.... hang on i need to look some stuff up in urban dictionary
down bad? is that the term?? anyway we all know what he's like in-game so. yeah that's elevated here
anyway zhao's accidentally made a habit of calling him 'good boy' and lucifer has to physically restrain himself every time lol

Some BSG finale thoughts from me regarding Lee and Kara (spoilers ahead after cut!)
I didn't mind the ending for the most part, but I am and will always be upset about Lee's ending. Like, at the end once they're on that new planet he ends up having no one left he cares about, which is so sad. Like he wants to explore the planet and all but I know that's something he'd probably like/want to experience with someone else or at least have someone to tell his experiences to. But no, Kara is dead, his father left with Laura, and Dee is also dead.
I wonder what his father did after Laura died because then he'd be alone too. He probably built that cabin she always talked about but he'd be lonely too, I'm sure.
Just like idk, your son has no one left, go back to him. Y'all both lost the loves of your life, bond over it, keep each other company while you grieve. Build a cabin together to commemorate both of them. That's just something I wish they would have done.
But yeah, it just makes me so sad to know that Lee has no one left he really cares about to be with on this new planet. No one to experience this new life with.
And that's part of why I'm so upset about Kara. I would be less upset about her ending if his father had stayed or even if Dee was still alive, but since neither was true, she was the last person he had left that he cared about and she had to leave him too. She was the last to leave him, which hurts so much, especially since I thought it was pretty obvious neither of them wanted that. While yes, she completed her journey by leading the humans to the planet, I don't think she wanted to leave. I think she wanted to stay to experience a fresh start too, I don't think she wanted to leave Lee behind, especially when they had also finally gotten to a point where they could have gotten together with no one standing in their way.
It also gets me when I watch the scene where she's saying goodbye to him, because despite her saying how she's completeled her journey and it feels good, she looks emotional, like she's going to cry, like she doesn't want to be telling him that she's leaving him too.
And while Lee accepts her disappearance and assures she won't be forgotten, memories of her will probably always stick with him and remind him of how he wishes she was still there. I can imagine he maybe makes a grave for her or some sort of memorial, and that he probably often speaks to the sky as if hoping to speak to her, that she can somehow hear him, sharing all his adventures he has to do alone.
He would definitely miss her and I'm sure if he could've had a choice he would have had her stay, for more than one reason. I can just imagine them flying raptors (or vipers, I'm not sure how many of those ships they kept on the planet) side by side as they explore the planet's surface, crossing oceans and forests as they chase each other and mess around, laughing over the radio.
But yeah, that is my BSG rant for the day. And don't get me wrong, I'm not unbearably upset about Kara's ending, just only because of how it affected Lee's. I do wish that she could have stayed and that they could have finally been happy together, or that at least his dad came back to comfort him for a while before he was just left alone with his grief. Like not only was he left alone, but he gets stuck alone with his grief and has to try and cope and comfort himself because he has no one to comfort him, no one to turn to that he knows well anymore.
It just makes me depressed everytime I think about his ending and how it could have been better for him by multiple different ways.

Archon war anon
I'm fairly certain that canon implies that Xiao didn't have too many masters, but I'm just having fun with it. I haven't hot potatoed him too much in what I have written, but I'm planning to pass him off for a bit to a bunch of Sumeru tribes who don't actually know what to do with an adeptus, and so just keep trading him off for benefits based on the idea that he's definitely got value, but they don't know what to do with him. I'm also doing this so that Morax later names him after himself? Like, "Xiao" is pretty Chinese sounding, and it would be weird for another land to have used it as a name. That in itself means nothing, bu I was like, "A perfect opportunity to make things weird!"
I did go check Cuijue architecture before I wrote the last ask and was all suspicious about it since I noticed that circle out front had that same square pattern as Guili stuff, but the pillars were very distracting!
We actually do know of gods to do with dreams - the Sumer Companion gods! But, they're obviously not in Liyue, and also not in Chenyu. The most I could find for the god of Chenyu Vale was the line "she made many dreams come true" in An Ancient Sacrifice of Sacred Brocade. Fujin and the others betrayed their god because they wanted to keep the humans safe, and the god was going to flood Chenyu Vale as a last ditch attempt to fight Morax.
The Dunyu-star connection comes from the Records of Jueyun book. The book also says "the redoubts of the Dunyu Valley stood tall and maintained prosperous relations with Liyue Harbor up till 500 years ago"
Very fair about thinking that the stone ruins all have to be old, but at the same time, given what I know about how ruins tend to work, they seem way too intact to be as old as all that? Like, people would have take all of that nice, preworked stone, because that's what people do. Like sure, some of them are kind of far, but then any quarries are also probably pretty far. Especially since Guili looks so much more ruined?
Tianqiu does look pretty temple-like, but also they kind of remind me of this documentary I saw talking about shitty Roman apartments? Like windowless and damp and all that because you spent basically all your time away. And even if it was a temple, temples need like staff to take care of them and priests? It looks big enough that it would probably need a proportionately big staff. I don't know, I'm not actually invested in this theory, it's just kind of fun to think about/argue.
As for when Guizhong died, yeah no confirmation on exactly when, but still at least 1700 years before the war ended.
What I could find on the move to the harbour was mostly referring back to one of the books - Stone Tablet Compilations - which was pretty vague, saying the war killed Guizhong, and "thereupon" Morax took their people to the harbor. And then the event that talked about the flood doesn't mention Guizhong dying, but in it Madame Ping does seem fairly specific about the actual move only taking a dozen days? Like, longer than you'd expect for that short distance, but not a "have to re-gather everyone" type situation (but honestly re-gathering would be really interesting to explore? and I want to see where you got that impression from) The teaser Echoes of the Heart mentions Guizhong's death and implies it was early in the war, but not how it happened or what was going on with their people after. And that's all I could find referring to her death specifically, so yeah, we know nothing. :(
I'm glad it wasn't too much!
no worries, it wasn't too much!
yeah i'm also fairly certain xiao only had one master before morax, but the concept is really interesting (and kinda funny). the idea of him winding up in sumeru and the gods there being like: "you want this magic kid?" "what does he do?" "idk but he's magic so he must be valuable" "you're right, i'll take him" .... "you want this magic kid?" fucking hilarious ngl
my only point of contention (that sounds ultra serious what) with the roman appartment point is that this is liyue? so i'm not sure they'd have a random ruin with no explanation be something that we wouldn't expect from a completely different culture? i guess it could always just be an adaptation though. but yeah, if it was a temple, there'd deffinitely be people living there. if not there, then in the surroundings – i'm just not sure if that would qualify as an entire town, more than just a temple complex. anyway, i've not no smoking gun on tianqiu valley either, we just know so little, but it is fun to throw things at the wall hahah
i have to be honest in that i completely forgot about madame ping's dialogue in moonlight merriment. like i had done the research on this mess for cyanide before that event came out? and since i wasn't even going to get to the founding of liyue harbor in the fic, i didn't bother changing my notes. but yeah, if madame ping says it took more than ten days (original chinese text), then yeah they probably migrated as soon as the flood took over. thankfully the cinematic specifies it was the guili assembly – knowing mihoyo they could've just left it as 'a flood destroyed their home' and never clarified LMAO like even then obviously it would've been the assembly, but still. unless i'm just missing stuff from the original chinese text, it doesn't, however, specify that it took them over ten days to get to the harbor. like it says the adepti stayed with them for ten days, but not how long their journey actually was? it was probably ten days, the harbor isn't all that far from the assembly and it'd be weird for the adepti to just... leave them halfway through the journey, but still. this is what i mean by the lack of clarification being a pain in the ass ToT
the scattering and gathering part actually comes from the guili plains' viewpont. it says "those who gathered here were once again scattered" in reference to the war destroying it. 'scattered' doesn't sound to me like a term you'd use for "there was a flood and so they fled together in a group with the adepti". it sounds more like "everyone fled to different places during the chaos, and then either morax gathered all of them back together to then migrate as a group immediately after it happened (like as soon as the flood settled morax was like "ok where's everyone"), or he took longer to gather them (like longer than ten days)". there's also the issue of the geo travel diaries? which like- i know morax being the god of the stove was disproven, but i'm not sure if that disproves the entire legend? which implies that people had to re-learn how to fucking cook when they first settled in the harbor. that might just be weird wording though, and since it's a word-of-mouth legend, also exaggeration.
the worst offender here i think is zhongli's dialogue during his first story quest. we know he's a little shit sometimes, but he's not known to outright lie when it comes to debating the history of liyue – he even goes out of his way to debate things that have become twisted by time if he finds himself in the conversation (because for some reason he also sometimes just lets the misconceptions be? which- i mean sure, he probably realizes it's an impossible task to try and fix every single erroneous tale in liyue). but when the scholars he's arguing with ask him if it's true that the lord of geo taught the people how to build houses when liyue harbor was being constructed (and how the model he used was made from mora), zhongli just says that yeah that's true. like ????? this either implies that the people didn't know how to build houses by the time they got to the harbor? as though they had been separated for so long that they had to re-learn it (which would make no sense if less than two weeks ago they'd been living in this advanced civilization that they'd built)?? like entire generations had passed??? or like- this could also be that zhongli taught them a new style of houses, going by the fact the architecture is not like the one in the assembly. given we now have madame ping saying it was more than ten days between the fall and the harbor, my only guess is that morax went 'hey i think we should try a new building style, how about this?' and made a harbor house as we know them entirely out of mora, and the people went 'ooo teach us how'. i guess there's always the possibility that, since the way it's worded in the dialogue (i don't have the originla chinese for this i'm afraid), that zhongli is saying that the fact the model house was made of mora is true, and not that he had to teach everyone how to make houses from scratch all over again. it could be that?? it's still weird.
it could always also be a case of all these things are from very early in the game, and since madame ping in moonlight merriment is the latest data we have, hers is probably more accurate? like they hadn't yet quite decided how long it was before the fall and the harbor, and that's why all the sources say different things.
still weird, though.

More merman/merfolk Bakugou head cannons because I honestly have so many.
The first time your 'relationship' progressed (you two had to consider for a long time how it would be possible), it was like watching fireworks with other people. So romantic, so emotionally infused.
He purposely spent several weeks away from you after that because he was unsure and confused of himself, but would still watch you, his head peaking out the water slightly, when you came to his beach, hoping he was there.
He would keep everything you gave him. And I mean everything. Didn't matter what it was, he would keep it in a little organized stash in a wooden box.
Makes things for you all the time. Often he would find things and give them to you, but he would also make stuff and give it to you. The things were ultimately useless things, but since they held emotional value, you kept them.
Definitely had a dream where you were a mermaid/merfolk like him (this was also one of his many wet dreams of you)
Usually 'sex' is either oral/fingering, but one time he forgot you were a human and tried to drag you in the water (he apologized immediately after)
Had the 'love' talk with his parents because they were concerned/thought he was confused. They tried to convince him that he wasn't actually in love (kinda sad moment)
Rants to you sometimes(but it would take a lot of convincing).
Full on trusts you. Not just foolish, skimpy trust, like he would take his own life rather than believe you would manipulate him.
you are singlehandedly fuelling my brain rot for merman/merfolk bakugou, you're amazing.
I'm so :(( this is exactly what he'd be like. He's so confused, isn't he meant to prefer his own kind? How can he fall in love with a human? Aren't they bad? But he can't see how that is true because whenever you smile it's like watching the sunrise on the horizon, it's like when he gets to swim alongside a pod of dolphins, it's just... pure joy, it's love, he realises.
Oh my god, the stashing thing reminded me of Little Mermaid, you know with the cave full of human things that are just random? He totally does that with you, he admires it all. He even kept the spoon you handed to him when you showed him what ice cream was one day (No, he does not like it. It's too cold and makes his tail hurt, somehow.)
He totally gives you things that have fallen overboard on passing boats and ships, they could range from things like a paper clip (how he spotted that in the water, you don't know) all the way to a diamond necklace. He loved to watch the way you'd appreciate every single gift no matter what, he loved how you were accepting his courting attempts.
Aw, the wet dream :( Imagine the pain he woke up in when he realises that it's not true, that he'll never get to take you so deep into the water that the light hardly touches the bottom and show you all the different creatures that lurk down there. Can't show you the way some of the fishes actually glow when you spook them a little. He wishes he could hear your bubbling laugh under the water.
THE DRAGGING, LMFAOO. Yeah, I see that, he's got you on the wet sand where the ocean continues to lap at your legs and his tail, he's hovering over you and his mind is completely gone. He has to have you, he has to take you back to that pretty coral reef and have his way with you there, it's so beautiful you'd love it! Doesn't realise he's dragging you under the waves until you're trying to thrash your way out of his hands.
Oh, I totally see the parent thing happening, it just slipped out one day that he found someone—a human, it immediately has his parents stiffening and worrying about their son. "A human? T-They must be tricking you!" his mother panics, watching her son's face crumple at the realisation that they're rejecting his mate. He spent a lot of time away from them after that, opting to sleep in the cave closest to you, and spent most, if not all his time waiting for you. He rants about his life beneath the sea to you, how his parents are stuck in the olden days when humans did hunt merfolk for sport. But he knows you're not like that, you never could be! He saw you cry over a crab being washed out to sea when it was trying to climb the rock, for Poseidon's sake.
He knows it's true love, he knows you actually love him, you opened your soul to him and he did the same in return. He may be inexperienced in the world of courting and mating but he knows for a fact that this is what the mermaids sing about when they're in love.

Why I like Adam
Tumblr media
"It's alright... Don't cry... Your dad is here to protect you!"
I don't really know what other word I can use to describe it but to me, "Records of Ragnarok" is a manga with probably the biggest "Chad" energy that I have ever seen.
This ridiculous premise of a bunch of popular male historical figures banding together to fight against the gods of several different cultures in a tournament where the fate of humanity is at stake as they get paired up with the valkyries to unleash a hidden power that represents their personalities manifested as a super powerful weapon is so freaking stupid but at the same time so freaking awesome that I can't help but love it!
The fights themselves vary in quality depending on who is fighting who and how much you care about the backstory of the competitors, and for me, no fight has gotten me more invested than Adam's fight.
(spoilers for Records of Ragnarok)
Tumblr media
When I talked about Makima I mentioned that one of the character traits I tend to hate the most is entitlement and I mostly prefer it when it's used on villains to show how bad of a trait it is.
Meanwhile, one of my favorite character traits is by far "confidence."
Confidence is, I feel, one of the most attractive, appealing, inspiring, and overall just enjoyable quality that you can give any character. You can be doing the most mundane of things like, walking your dog, doing grocery, paying your bills, or whatever... But when you do it while exhibiting a lot of confidence it instantly makes you look 10 times more badass somehow. It's why so many people love Escanor. A character that shows confidence just makes you believe that they're born to lead, that they'll keep you safe, and makes you want to follow them no matter where they go.
And like I said, Records of Ragnarok just radiates a ton of that "Chadly" confident energy. Every character goes into a fight fully believing that they're going to win, constantly smiling, laughing, relaxed, and just having a ton of fun with their fights, even though it's their lives and the lives of every human on the planet hanging on the balance as they face off absurd monsters like Hercules, Thor, and Belzebub.
Of course, the biggest Chad of all these Chads ends up being Adam, who's facing none other than Zeus himself with nothing but a knuckle duster.
Tumblr media
Just from a visual standpoint, this setup alone would already be amazing. The father of the greek gods versus a skinny man using nothing but his fists to fight. These are such absurdly ridiculous odds that you can't help but want to root for our apple-eating underdog.
But the actual true core of what makes me like Adam so much is the why. Confidence is only effective when it feels earned, when you have a good motivation behind it. Why is he doing all that, why is he fighting these crazy odds, why is he risking his life, and why is he still so calm while doing it??
Because he wants to protect his family... And that's it.
Tumblr media
That's his entire motivation, and if you saw my Rachel post, you know I love it when a character's motivation is reflected in their actions. It's such a straightforward reason but he goes to such lengths for it. Kinda reminds me of Denji from Chainsawman. Yeah, his motivation is simple but he's trying so hard for it that you just start rooting for him, because you see how much it means to the guy.
Even while Adam's getting the hell beaten out of him, slowly going blind, and painting the ground in red with his blood, the only thing on his mind is whether or not his wife and kids will be safe, and he does it all with such a relaxed set of eyes.
The way Adam's eyes are drawn is simply perfect as they show there is no hesitation or doubt in his heart. Yeah, he's fighting freaking Zeus, the god of lightning and one of the most powerful things on the universe but... He has a family to protect, man.
Tumblr media
Adam just awakens a very primitive and animalistic feeling of "fight for what you believe" in me, because I really get behind what he's trying to achieve as I feel how passionate he is about it and get really inspired by how hard he's trying to reach it.
He's a man with a simple goal, but also a man that's giving 150% of himself to achieve said goal, and it's a goal anyone can relate to.
Very basic but still very noble and very awesome!

Chapter 102-2 thoughts
Considering how eventful this chapter was, I'm surprised I didn't catch wind of any spoilers beforehand. That said, spoilers to follow~
The thing I wanna start with is Yato talking about Hiyori summoning him back from Yomi, but the way he remembers it is as "Yato" rather than "Yaboku" like she actually said. Thus, he's finally mentally broken free of that control Father held over him.
He follows that up by reminding trash dad he's been the one hurting him this whole time, only showing up with crocodile tears and bandages as a way to excuse all he's done.
The pages of the brief fight between Chiki and Rekki, and the one of Yato slicing trash dad's neck open, are so goddamn cool. So satisfying. I will be looking at these pages whenever I need a pick-me-up. My boy finally got 'em :')
Before I get to that, though, I have to laugh at Ebisu this chapter. Man strolls into the gravekeeper's home, almost destroys the shrine, then pauses and asks for the sorcerer's name. Once it's given to him, he lets the guy die and strolls back out, presumably with the name intact. King shit, I love you little businessman boy.
ngl, I didn't really see it coming that all those people with the gravekeeper were dead, too. That's definitely one way to go about receiving the name without having to kill children. And the way they reincorporated that plot detail from Hiyori's grandma was lovely. The writing in this manga is beautiful.
That said, I still don't think we're quite out of the woods. Like I've mentioned before, they told us this place is very, very dangerous and we haven't seen that, still. While my first instinct was to celebrate that Father's finally bitten the dust, there's probably something still yet required to defeat him. idk. it's nagging at me, though. Ebisu's statement "I've already devoted plenty of lives to this" combined with his realization that he's died here in the past almost makes me want to say he has been the gravekeeper in several cycles, but...there was still a line of humans carrying out this duty. He wouldn't have passed the duty back to them, right?
What happened to kill the gravekeeper's family? Why was he left alive, and they were all killed young? The answer to this is probably the same "danger" on this island.
HOWEVER I'm still going to celebrate Father's death. We deserve it. Watching him bleed out while begging for Yato to understand had me like YESSSSSSSS DIE A MISERABLE DEATH.
So yeah let's go back to that. Yato did clarify "Yaboku dies with you" means the version of himself that's tied to his dad will die, like was frantically speculated when he first said that, and he'll be free to live a happy life with his friends.
As much as I want to believe that was really Hiyori and Yukine appearing there at the end, it probably isn't. Yukine is still having a meltdown, and Hiyori is stuck outside of her body with no way to return. Plus we saw Yato's hands just before, and they were stained with blight.
So Father's dying, the gravekeeper did die, Ebisu (presumably) knows his true name, Yato's not in great shape, and Hiyori is running after Mizuchi. What do I think will happen next?
As usual, I have several ideas: Father will reincarnate into a different body. Fujisaki himself will probably either die or wake up in a panic (remember, Father's spirit is outside of the physical body at the moment. I don't know that getting his throat cut would necessarily kill him, if his spirit is still alive). Since Amaterasu has seen Father, she'll be able to track his new body. From there, I would like to say she'll obliterate him for good, but there's still also the nagging question of Heaven's corruption. What if they wanna trap him so they can study him like a bug? What if they kill Amaterasu? What if Father reincarnates as a really young kid, and there's the ethical question of killing children again? What's going to happen to Ebisu and Take, now that they're the ones with the knowledge of his name? The final arc only just started. It wouldn't wrap up after 3 chapters, right? Something else has gotta happen, but what?
I'm definitely going to think more on this and see if I can come up with a more solid idea before next month. We're definitely in the denouement of the series, but as always Adachitoka is staying two steps ahead of all of us. Outfoxed again!

OMG THAT'S SUCH A FUN CHAPTER I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT AHHHH
Tumblr media
(also this makes me feels like the organization is indeed under kishibe, something like an anti-makima squad but this time it's just a small team to make sure denji didn't do anything stupid)
Tumblr media
also, is this one of kobeni's siblings? i feel like maybe he(?) is...
Tumblr media
look at these losers, i love them 😂💓
Tumblr media
even yoshida can't handle the secondhand embarrassment from seeing asa fumbled so hard lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also this panel and the last 2 pages are giving me... "we're gonna discuss bullying and conformity today" vibe
but honestly, i love how fujimoto showed just how... different denji and asa is. they're both outsiders, but denji has already accepted that status of him, and live his life how he wants. not only because he had experienced such... isolation from humans around him, but also because he had experienced love that was given to him unconditionally in a form of pochita, aki and power.
asa though, she's an outsider hiding in the shadows. she tried so hard to be accepted by her peers, and if that means pretending to get along with everyone? she will do just that. if that means ridiculing another person just to get away from being ridiculed? then she will do just that. which is exactly what she did to denji.
so... when iseumi (that mfing bitch) talked down to her like that... she might realized there's really nothing she can do to be accepted. no matter how much effort she do to conform to the standard of normalcy... she might still be hated for not performing it enough to make others comfortable.
but yeah i hope in this journey... asa gets to learn from denji on how to live in your truest sense. yes, denji's a bit of a goof, he took the money that he found in an empty building, he walk away and do his own things. but he doesn't pretend to play nice. i hope they can work together, but also i love seeing them be such a bitch to each other, it reminds me of hayakawa family dynamic... 😭💔
anyway, love this chapter! i wanna see more of asa's adventure to become a person who can be true to herself...

Steddie vampire!Eddie request. Fluff. Steve and Eddie cuddling when Eddie starts to get hungry. Steve offers his wrist as a snack.
Ah yes, definitely!
Warnings: blood and tooth rotting fluff ^-^
___________
It's calm, a dull but rhythmic thudding in the air.
Eddie smiles at the wall in front of him, enjoying the weight of hands on his waist. A thumb rubbing circles into the skin his pulled up shirt reveals. He'd almost be certain Steve were doing the motion in his sleep if it wasn't for the soft kisses he feels press to his neck and shoulder every so often. "You good back there Harrington?" Eddie chuckles at the soft sleepy hum he receives in answer.
Eddie likes days like this, the two of them curled up on Steve's bed after a fruitless attempt to explain the rules of D'n'D to the ex-jock. Steve had cleaned the books and notes off of his bed much to Eddie's dismay and once he himself had hopped back onto the bed, he pushed Eddie back, pinning the metal head to his bed with a grin. Eddie had acted disgruntled and fought back (with no true strength behind the actions, they both knew if Eddie wanted to fight back Steve would stand no chance against him) but Steve keeps him down, peppering kisses across his face, Eddie's heart flutters full to the brim with love. They're both laughing and trading kisses.
They had settled down to cuddle soon after, both exhausted and craving each others warmth, that's how they stay for the next hour or two with Eddie's back pressed into Steve's front.
Eddie doesn't know what they are. After coming back from the upside down, Steve had patched him up and they had gone for a few beers here and there and eventually settled into a rhythm. Never giving their situation a concrete name, never talking about the light touches, hurried kisses and mornings spent with delicate hands and shy smiles both too scared that talking about it might break their fragile bond.
Steve shifts behind him, the thumb on his hip stilling before renewing it's movements albeit slower this time around. Eddie can tell that he wants to say something and so he stays quiet, waiting for him to pluck up his courage. Eddie places his own hand over the one steve has rubbing patterns into his hip, silently giving him the go ahead.
Seemingly finding his voice Steve shifts to lean up on his free arm so he can look down at Eddie who rolls onto his back, their hands threading together over his abdomen. "Are you feeling...y'know..." Steve trails off and Eddie can't help but chuckle at the bashful reaction.
Ever since they had accidentally discovered how it was that Eddie had managed to survive, Steve had offered his help. Although the first time had not been willing, the two silently agreed not to bring that incident up it seemed. The guilt still ate Eddie up inside sometimes. When he was left alone those memories would creep up from the depths of his mind and whisper cruelty to him. Convincing him of the monster he had become, reminding him of the pain he had inflicted upon his friends.
"Yeah, I'm a little hungry"
But it's different when he's here, the little moments he gets to share with Steve make him feel so human. Steve doesn't view him as a monster. He's just Eddie. The weird freak who plays D'n'D, enjoys metal music and watching horror movies. The guy who let's Steve run his hands through his hair and over his waist. The man he had kissed when they were supposed to being watching a movie. To Steve he's just Eddie.
"Here, let me" Eddie watches as Steve shifts, lifting him up slightly so he can sit behind the metal head with his legs caging him in at either side. He loves when they sit like this, his head resting on Steve's chest so close to his heart.
Steve holds his wrist up to Eddie's face and he takes it gently in his hands. It feels like years ago they were discussing this as a possibility when in reality it had only been a few months. He huffs a soft laugh at the memory, he had been so against the idea of letting Steve be his personal blood bag. But now with how close it's gotten them, he wishes they had thought of it sooner.
Eddie presses a kiss to Steve's wrist who in turn presses one into his hair and then he's biting down. Skin parting beneath his sharpened canines, Steve grunts behind him.
Eddie had been scared back then that he had been putting his friend through so much pain just so he can eat, but after a long vulnerable conversation between the two Steve had explained that it felt oddly nice. Robin has a theory that it might be some kind of vampire trick to keep prey calm.
Eddie hadn't liked hearing Steve be referred to as prey.
Eddie makes a noise in the back of his throat as the sweet taste of Steve's blood coats his tastebuds. He has only ever fed on steve but he just knows, almost like it's pure instinct, that nothing will ever be able to compare to his blood.
Of course it was inevitable that thee king Steve would be perfect in every possible way. Handsome, kind, funny, brave and oh so delicious. Just the sound of his heartbeat made Eddie positively ravenous.
Steve is patient with him as he feeds, leaning his head back against the headboard, combing his free hand through Eddie's hair. He felt calm and warm. The pain from the initial bite never lasted long and the light almost floaty feeling that follows makes the experience a little bit addictive. Couple that with the excuse of having to have Eddie close by and well steve would never say no to an excuse to hold Eddie more than he already does.
Eddie takes a deep breath as he pulls back from Steve's arm, licking the residual blood from his lips as he eyes the still leaking bite. "How are you feeling?" Eddie asks as he leans back in to lap at the wound, catching every drop possible so as not to let any go to waste. "I feel good, I could go for a nap though" Steve replies in a sleepy hum and Eddie chuckles fondly at the reply as he pulls back watching Steve's skin knit itself back together till only smooth skin remains, as if nothing had even happened. That had definitely freaked them both out at first too.
Eddie plays with Steve's fingers as he speaks, a nervous habit "do you want to cuddle?" He asks still unsure as to what is okay and what isn't.
Steve doesn't reply, removing his hand from Eddie's touch and the metal head can't help but feel disheartened at the silent rejection. However it doesn't last long as Steve's wrapping his arms around Eddie's waist and twisting, rolling them both onto their sides with steve once again pressing himself into Eddie's back. "Cuddling sounds perfect right now" he mumbles, lips brushing the outer shell of Eddie's ear. He's speechless for a moment, still confused at what just happened before allowing a smile to break onto his faces as he moves his hands to cover Steve's own.
"Yeah, cool. We can cuddle for awhile"

5. What techniques do you use to create believable dialogue?
I don't know who said not to include stuttering in their dialogue because the simple fact of the matter is that humans trip over their words all the time. Especially when they're caught off guard or frustrated.
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 26
Like I'm sure they meant "w-w-when a c-character talks l-like this" in casual situations (ie not shivering/overwhelmed) but doesn't have like, A "Real"(?) Stutter (ie Bill from IT), but like... humans say um, and like, and take pauses to think over their words, and say things like "how do I phrase this."
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 4
We bail out on sentences partway through because we realize we wanna say something else.
Tumblr media
Humans don't know how to talk!! Maybe they'll phrase something in a way that isn't technically grammatically correct, but feels smoother to say. ("Weird's not" instead of "weird isn't")
Tumblr media
We elongate words
Tumblr media
—What a Waste (of a Lovely Night)
We (sometimes) drop the g in -ing words. We speak in a series of small sentences instead of stringing them into one, either for emphasis or because we realize that we have more to say.
Tumblr media
We interrupt ourselves to give further context
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 4
Be serious. Do you actually say "wouldn't have" as two separate words in casual conversation, or do you slur it into "wouldn't've" because that's smoother than taking that slight pause between "wouldn't" and "have?" We'll more often say "dunno" or "wanna" instead of "don't know" or "want to," because we're lazy and just wanna (ha) get the words out. Unless we really want to emphasize that we "do not want to do this." Things like that ya know? Just like. Write the words as we actually say them and not how they're "meant" to be said.
22. What role does humor play in your writing? Do you enjoy adding comedic elements to your fics?
Sometimes it serves as a break from angst and tension so that things don't get stale. (See, the reason ppl think the original Teen Titans cartoon was more serious than it was was BECAUSE of all the comedy to make the more serious moments hit harder.) The first (non prologue) chapter of L2C starts very.. almost parody-ish? Where characters are very self aware of "wow zombie apocalypse, who would've thought" before suckerpunching you with character death in Chapter 3 to remind you that "yeah this isn't gonna be fun."
But without graffiti spread about locations and characters messing around with each other and contributing to The Human Condition, the dreariness and misery gets old and you need some kind of respite.
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 26
Other times it's to show/strengthen the relationship between characters. This particular ✨️flashback✨️ also serves to emphasize that Jeremy 1. hasn't been the same since before Michael kicked it, and 2. really isn't trying to bond with his team in the way he did with Michael.
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 26
With Jake in particular, a common catalyst for humor for me, it shows how he uses humor both to distract from the horrors that come with living in the apocalypse and to seek out approval from those around him. I mean, what better way to get someone to like you than to make them laugh?
Tumblr media
—Left 2 Chill // Chapter 17
(Note: the braille remark was made by Jared, but like the drinking joke, the "error" of associating braille with Deaf people and drinking with pregnancy shows that the person making the joke that has to know that what they're saying isn't accurate or absolutely is not advice that should be followed. Jake isn't actually dumb. You have to know the correct answers on a test in order to get every single true/false question wrong. Hi spiderverse reference.)
So short answer. Love incorporating humor for a multitude of reasons.
27. What two (or more) fandoms would you like to see a crossover for? Would you ever write it?
I mean there are about a million different BMC/DEH crossovers under the sun, and I'm a firm believer in Heathers taking place on the same timeline (1989 vs. 2010s, putting Heathers teens in their 40s). And I've already made the L4D au that consumed my mind in the infancy of the pandemic, sooo...
I don't know!! I don't really know what other characters I want to have meet each other. (Sure the L2C crew didn't meet any Survivors from the source material, but they sure as hell met their specific brand of Infected.)

OKAY WAIT YOU REMINDING ME OF THE SPECIAL ONE- theory time again lets gooo: yellow is aro/ace to me and never wont be and its super weird to me that people glorify his partnership with his coworker because that just feels like a failure state unambiguously to me where you have a empty small talk lover- like remember the fucking retirement card where she repeats the same unfunny joke like. imagine a loveless marriage like that. i think i remember yellow saying something critical of the word "love" to that worm too so its not just in the cult episode where he "rejects love" BUT he wants community and family and basic human dignity. i have no idea how dhmis could keep making episodes but if they do i REALLY HOPE they expand on more non traditional relationships and all the diverse ways people can love each other and enrich their lives because FUCK thats so important and theres ENDLESS ways to do it ehehehe
So true so true so true. I've always found that a lot of emphasis has been placed on Yellow's relationship in the jobs episode as 'proof' of something, either his canon age, or sexuality or whatever. But there's a post floating around on here that I CANNOT find again about Yellow's 'relationships' always having hidden meanings behind them or being a type of manipulation from the simulation they're trapped in!
He and Special One don't have any 'relationship' other than it being a cohesion from Shrignolds cult in an attempt to trap him in the religion with the promise of true love. Honestly it's not even clear if she 'exists' or not, she didn't show up in person, she was more of a hallucination/vision of a person that Yellow could potentially meet in the cult. So yeah, no go there.
As for him and Claire, I don't think Becky and Joe would really plop a healthy relationship dynamic down in the middle of an episode about the horrific nature of capitalism and how a job will suck the life out of you until you're too old to be useful and then you're tossed aside. Like. It was clearly commentary about all the wonderful potential jobs you could have and instead getting stuck in a mindlessly monotonous position that doesn't pay you enough, doesn't give you any free time, limits the relationships you can have, and basically wastes your life. Yellow and Claire (while being kind of cute I can't lie, I'd love them to be friends) are an example of the way people will settle for the easiest available option, after all it's easy to 'fall in love' with a person you see every day. And Claire/Andy/Dunkin really don't have personalities outside of their job! Like they're representation of those who make their jobs their lives, so of course Claires gonna echo the same phrase over and over, it's all she knows! (I also love that the workers that represent being lost to your job are like. sentient tools at a factory that makes nuts and bolts and things. Literally the job is PART OF THEM)
So yeah, I also see Yellow as being Aro/Ace, and the 'relationships' he has in the show really strike me as a manipulation tactic by whichever teacher they're dealing with on any given day, not something real!
