Reunion (Cloud Strife x Reader)
Characters: Cloud Strife, Zack Fair, Tifa Lockhart (feat. Jessie, Biggs, Wedge and others)
Fandom: Final Fantasy VII
Tags: Reunions, crossdressing, angst with a happy ending
Warnings: Mentions of death, spoilers for Crisis Core
Word Count: 4k words
Requested by anon: could you do a ficlet with a fem! reader for a Platonic!Cloud? my idea is where the reader was in SOLDIER (disguised as a guy) and when Hojo found out they kicked you out (quite violently). You were really close with Cloud and Zack, but once you were gone they thought they killed you. In other words I just want an angsty sweet reunion when he finds you working for avalanche back at the Seventh Heaven. (Points if you’re close with Tifa too). Thank you! I love your work so much! Ur a blessing ♡
A/N: I have never beat the original FFVII and I’m not sure what happens in canon with Cloud’s memories, so I took some artistic liberties to write this. Hope you enjoy!! Please please please give this some love, I worked so hard on it!!

Cloud Strife x Female Reader
_
[ B/N: Boy Name ]
.
Many terrors haunted Cloud. There were too many things he had lost, too many people he missed and too many burdens he carried. However, no matter how much he tried to forget them all or how tangled his mind was, one seemed to stand out: you. He had befriended you during his SOLDIER days, an unlikely friend in a strange place.
He vividly remembered you: the way your eyes twinkled when you spotted him, your shy smile and your gentle expression, the playfulness in your voice when you teased him. He thought of you fondly, one of the few things in his past that weren’t tainted by evil. Even then, you had still turned into a bad memory. Your mere existence made him sad because of your early demise. You had only ever been kind and still your fate was cruel and undeserved. Your only crime had been lying, and even that he wouldn’t blame you for. Others, however, found that sin to be unforgivable and punished you for it. With a sentence of death.
“Cloud?” Tifa called his name, bringing him back to reality. “Still with me?”
“Uh… yeah” He straightened up, surprised upon realizing how crestfallen he had made himself with his own thoughts. “Lead the way”
“I’m excited” His friend smiled, leading him to the Seventh Heaven. “We finally get to meet our new member. Everyone has been so secretive about them”
“Why?” Cloud focused on trying to follow the conversation, even if his thoughts pulled him back to the past.
“They’re Avalanche’s secret weapon”
“Hm…”
Tifa, not really catching his disinterest, continued talking.
“Apparently they have some serious military training”
“Uh-huh…”
Her voice became a dull background noise as his thoughts drifted without remedy. Even if she kept speaking, he had stopped listening.
He had dreamt about you again last night, and his mind betrayed him by dwelling on your memory. Inevitably, he drifted off to past thoughts, to his SOLDIER days when everything seemed exciting. He felt insecure and unworthy, but he was willing to improve. He was prepared to work hard and make his way to 1st Class. Zack was constantly by his side, taking Cloud under his wing. You completed the trio, and he couldn’t help but to think back to when he met you.
A tall boy with dark hair and sky blue eyes stood in the training room, crossing his arms and watching how the new recruits finished their exercise. He noticed how one of them struggled more than the rest and was more than happy to give him a little hand.
“Hey, newbie” He walked over to a specific soldier who just then finished with the squats. “Need some help there?”
You shook your head, completely breathless after the exercise, and leaned back on your butt until you were sitting down. Joining SOLDIER had been your dream for a long time, wanting to become strong enough to be able to help people. You knew it wouldn’t be easy, just didn’t imagine it would be this hard and exhausting.
“Come on” He held his hand out for you to take. “We all need help sometimes”
With a sigh, you took his hand in yours and let him pull you up. Once you were standing on your feet, you leaned your hands on your knees. It was hard to catch your breath. Despite how athletic you were, this was on a whole new level.
When you dared to look up at the boy, you found him showing you a wide friendly grin. Beside him now was a blond guy, with kind blue eyes that went along with his meek expression.
“It’s okay” The blond muttered. “It takes a bit to get used to”
You nodded your head, managing a tired smile in appreciation. The other one observed you in a mixture between amusement and sympathy and patted your back.
“You did well for the first day” He told you. “What’s your name?”
“Uh…. B/N” You carefully watched his reaction, and your heart began racing in anticipation.
“B/N? Nice to meet you” Unaware of your nervousness upon introducing yourself, he offered you his hand. “I’m Zack, this is Cloud”
You shook his hand, and waved with the other one at his blond friend. He timidly reciprocated with a small wave.
“Tell you what, kid” Zack put his arm over your shoulders, and you tensed up. “I’ll keep an eye on you and help you out”
An irrational fear took over you, as it was the first time someone got so close to you. Even if you had managed to push your way into SOLDIER without arising any suspicions over yourself, you were afraid they would know. Your secret was far too important to air it out, and it could get you in trouble. Big trouble.
While you appreciated Zack’s offer, you feared his friendship too much. What if he found out who you really were? How would he react? Would he still be friendly if he knew? Would he give you in to the authorities to have you punished for daring to deceive everyone?
“Don’t overwhelm him….” Cloud bashfully defended you, definitely noticing your awkwardness.
“No worries, Cloudy” Zack brushed it off. “B/N here just needs to get out of his shell”
“We…” The other one added. “We can help you train if you want”
“That would be nice” You replied, purposefully making your voice deeper.
“That’s the spirit!” The dark-haired boy chuckled. “And relax, man, you’re so tense!”
You lowered your shoulders, which were almost up to your ears. Still, even if you were trying to act natural you couldn’t relax, you couldn’t stop being tense. Because what would happen if anyone at SOLDIER realized you were a girl?
-
You nervously tapped your foot against the ground. Although you had joined Avalanche a bit ago and were starting to get used to it, you still got jittery. Even after the mission was over, the nerves still conquered your stomach.
“I swear, Y/N!” Jessie tugged at your hand, making you look at her instead of that far off point that you were staring at without seeing it. “You’re gonna love him!”
“Am I?” You smiled at her, pretending not to be restless still.
That recent mission reminded you too much of SOLDIER. It was ironic that Shinra, the very thing you once were a part of and now were trying to escape, had become what you were fighting against, confronting it head-on. It seemed to haunt you even as you adamantly tried to bring it down.
To make matters worse, Barret had announced to the group that they were calling their mercenary contact for the next mission. You hadn’t been with them long enough to have met him, because in those couple of days you had barely even grown accustomed to their company.
Barret didn’t talk to you more than necessary, even if you could tell he was a big softie, especially when you saw him with his daughter Marlene. Biggs and Wedge had been kind and welcoming while still trying to give you some space. Jessie was the most outspoken, and clearly the one more determined to make you feel at home. It painfully reminded you of someone else whose personality was bubbly and extroverted that you had met in the past.
“For sure!” Her very voice snapped you out of your nervous thoughts again. “Cloud is the best, even if he likes to pretend like he’s a tough guy”
You tried not to wince at the mention of his name. How cruel was it that you ran into someone else called Cloud? A part of you had hoped it was the same Cloud you befriended in SOLDIER, but it just wasn’t possible. He must have become a SOLDIER, 1st Class like he wanted to. Who knew? You might even have fought him with Avalanche without realizing, unaware that his spiky blond hair and kind blue eyes were hidden under one of those helmets.
You shook your head. No. It just so happened that there was another Cloud in Midgard. It was too painful to get your hopes up for a sweet reunion… even if you had daydreamed about it countless times. Cloud and Zack had been so important to you… Fondly looking back at them, you hoped they were doing okay.
Zack’s laughter was contagious, and you couldn’t suppress a smile as you triumphantly stood up and towered over Cloud. Pouting a bit, he averted his gaze and didn’t move from the spot, sitting on the ground and leaning an elbow on his propped up knee.
“And the winner is… B/N!” Zack took your arm and lifted it up. “I knew you had it in you, kid”
Cloud still didn’t speak. His cheeks were a deep shade of pink, and you couldn’t tell if it was because of the squats you had beat him at or because of the embarrassment. Maybe both.
“Okay, Zack” You playfully pushed him off you, moving towards Cloud. “Stop torturing him”
“I’m not torturing anyone, he did great” Zack leaned down to pat his friend’s shoulder. “You just did better”
Even if you wouldn’t admit it out loud, a sense of pride bubbled in your chest. Boys were generally stronger than girls, but you had bested one of them after training hard for weeks on end. Still, you felt bad for Cloud and offered him a hand.
“No hard feelings?”
“Sure”
He smiled at you as you pulled him up, wobbling because of all his weight. Zack chuckled as he put his hands on your back to stabilize you.
“Who would have known a skinny guy like you would become such a good SOLDIER?”
The comment might have offended you when you first met him, but you knew Zack meant it as a compliment. After all, you would never forget the day you first met. You had felt helpless and not capable of making it in SOLDIER. You were shorter and smaller, but you didn’t let that stop you. Now you were stronger and resilient, even more so than some of the boys there.
The three of you gasped, startled, when the door to the training room suddenly swung open. In came Sephiroth, Hojo and Lazard, seemingly very angry and determined.
“No…” You uttered, with a nasty feeling in the pit of your stomach. What if…?
No, you had been very careful. It was impossible. You had disguised yourself to the point that not even Cloud and Zack discovered you despite being so close, despite spending so much time together. You had even found a way to avoid Hojo’s tests, knowing he would discover your identity if you got too close. They had no way of finding out… right?
“That’s her” Sephiroth pointed a finger at you, bearing no expression.
“Her?” Zack repeated, taking a step forward. “What’s going on?”
“B/N is an imposter!” Hojo accused, scowling at you. “She is a woman”
“What?” Your friend shook his head at them. “There must be a misunderstanding”
Terrified of what they might do, you took a few steps back. Cloud stood behind you, and you stepped right into him. His hands protectively fell on the small of your back, and when you looked up you found with his gentle blue eyes. They were so expressive. There was confusion in them, but also alarm and concern and fear all at once.
“Get her” Lazard said, and just then two soldiers appeared from behind him.
“No!” You screamed as they approached you. “Please!”
In your panic, you retreated more into Cloud and pressed yourself against his chest. You felt his fingers hold on to the fabric of your shirt.
“No, don’t touch him!” Zack insisted, helplessly watching as the soldiers reached you. “You’re making a mistake!”
You exclaimed as the soldiers reached you and took ahold of you. Cloud didn’t hesitate to hold on to you, tightly grabbing you by the arms.  The four of you struggled, but the soldiers were stronger.
“Stop that!” Zack begged them still, wincing at the sight of you.
Tears streamed down your face, knowing what awaited you if they took you. Now screaming, you were calling anyone for help. Cloud was your last hope as you tightly clung on to him, but they separated you from him.
“No!” He joined Zack in his attempts. “Stop it!”
“Lazard, please! I’m sure B/N isn’t-“ The brunette’s words were suddenly interrupted.
“Then what’s this?” Hojo showed them a picture, and everyone grew silent.
It was you in the photo, without a doubt. Before you cut your hair, before you hid your breasts and took all necessary precautions to pass as a boy.
The chaos that had erupted in the room suddenly came to a halt, replaced by a heavy awed atmosphere to replace the previously frantic one.
“What…?” Cloud uttered, watching you in astonishment.
“You’re a girl…” Zack said as well, even though is voice was a mixture of sadness and understanding.
“Don’t just stand there!” Hojo urged the soldiers, who came back to their senses.
“Take her” Lazard insisted when his subordinates turned to him for confirmation.
Shaking from head to toe, you let yourself be grabbed by them. Your mind was racing, frozen with the reminder of your friends faces. They weren’t angry, they didn’t feel betrayed. They were only surprised. You had been too scared to tell them, but now you realized you could have. How could you have doubted them?
“Wait…” Cloud stuttered as tears reached his eyes. “Wait, don’t… don’t hurt her!”
“Sephiroth…” Zack desperately called. “Sephiroth, do something! Don’t let them take her!”
The 1st Class Soldier didn’t say anything. He only turned around as you were dragged away from your friends. Sephiroth glanced down and faced his back to them.
You tensed up when you heard a cry full of rage, followed by Zack throwing himself to them. Cloud made to move, wanting to support his friend, but he was still too taken aback by the situation to act.
Obeying a gesture from Lazard, two more soldiers entered the room and intercepted Zack. He struggled against them, fighting to return by your side and save you.
“Don’t!” You pleaded, letting yourself use your natural voice for the first time in months. “Don’t do this, Zack”
“I don’t care if you’re a boy or a girl, I won’t let them-”
“Let me go” You shook your head, trying to put an end to his endeavor. “Don’t get hurt because of me”
You quickly glanced at Cloud behind him, noticing how his eyes were drowned in tears. He was still frozen in place, prey of an overwhelming shock and uncertainty. The sight made your own tears overflow, staining the track that the old ones left again.
“Take care…” You whispered to him, trying to memorize his face. A last comfort before you met your end.
Cloud parted his lips, but they only shook as no words left them. A tear rolled down his cheek, and it was too painful to keep looking at him. Glancing at Zack, you realized he was now just as heartbroken. He had given up, understood that it was impossible to fight for you.
Accepting your fate, you began moving. You exited the room and heard the door loudly closing behind you. A ruckus broke out inside it as Zack still fought against them. A second person had joined him in his outrage, and you sobbed knowing it was Cloud.
You walked directly behind Sephiroth, who walked beside Hojo and Lazard. As you were taken with them, Sephiroth’s long silver hair and his broad back was etched in your memory. It would be one of the last things you’d see. Just like the voices of your dear friends would be one of the last things you’d hear as they called out for you, by the fake name they knew you by but still begging for your life.
Even if you trusted them, you had been too afraid to completely expose yourself to them. What would have happened if you did? What would have happened if you told them you were a girl? A part of you had always known the answer: they would have protected you. Zack and Cloud cared about you, not because you were a boy or a girl or anything else… they cared about you because they were your friends... because you were their friend.
You hadn’t trusted them with your secret. You had been too afraid to tell them. And know they would have to live with your death.
-
Everything seemed oddly silent, as if the usual sounds had dimmed slightly. There was the murmur of voices inside the bar, but no loudness. Cloud’s boots seemed to echo as his feet moved over the wooden steps that led to the entrance. Even Tifa, who seemed so talkative, had grown quiet. Cloud brushed that feeling off, assuming it had more to do with his thoughtful mood. Everything was normal.
When he came in, there was nothing out of the ordinary. Barret played with Marlene, Biggs and Wedge talked and laughed, and Jessie was high-fiving someone she was talking to.
“Hello!” Tifa cheerfully greeted everyone, gathering their attention.
You looked up to find out who that mysterious merc was. The sun behind him shadowed his slim figure as well as the curvier one that accompanied him. Mildly curious, you kept your gaze glued to them as they walked in. Once the door closed behind them, your eyes grew used to the light and you could see them properly.
The woman was slightly familiar, but you didn’t pay mind to her as she walked behind the bar. It was the man who you were more interested in. When you took a good look at him, your heart skipped a beat.
That merc, that man allegedly called Cloud, walked in without noticing you. His eyes had fallen on you, but there was no recognition in them. Barret was telling the newcomer something, but you didn’t hear.
Surely, your mind was playing tricks on you, and that man looked more like Cloud to you than he actually did. Of course, it wasn’t him. It was an amazing coincidence that on top of the name he also had spiky blond hair, but that was the only similitude with your memory of Cloud. This man before you was cold and rough, nothing like the sweet, meek and shy boy you knew. His eyes were also greener than you remembered. Still, the more you stared at him, the more you realized… it was Cloud. Despite the change in his demeanor, in his eyes, in the way he carried himself, in his entire persona... it was Cloud, the one you knew years ago. The one whose face you had tried to memorize as you resigned yourself to your death.
Destiny was capricious. You had survived and you had escaped. He had too. And now you were together again. You both had followed similar paths.
“Y/N?” Biggs called you, gently shaking your shoulder. “You okay?”
“Yeah, you just got very pale” Wedge’s words seemed to alarm the rest as well.
Everyone turned to you, but you only had eyes for one of them. Your feet moved on their own as you approached Cloud with determination.
“What the hell?” He whispered, frowning as you directly went over to him.
“Cloud” You threw your arms around his neck, feeling too happy and relieved to see him to realize his reaction. “It’s so good to see you!”
“What’s going on?” He spoke up, his voice sounded annoyed as his arms lifted a little trying to avoid touching you. “Do I know you?”
“You…” Slowly pulling away, you stared into his eyes. “You don’t recognize me?”
Cloud hesitated, and so did you. His voice was so… deep, so irritated and so harsh. He really felt nothing like the boy you had known. What had happened? He changed so much…
Your vulnerable expression seemed to snap something in him, because his eyes suddenly grew wide. His mouth fell agape, staring at you as though you were a ghost.
“B/N?” He uttered, recognizing your features despite never having seen you as a girl. Except that one time in that picture, when he thought it would be the last. “You’re alive?”
“B/N, is that really you?” The woman who had walked in with him uttered from behind the bar. It finally clicked why she was so familiar. If that was indeed Cloud, that had to be…
“Tifa!” You ran to each other, colliding in a warm hug accompanied by breathless tearful chuckles.
Despite not being close, you had known Tifa through Cloud and Zack. She had always been kind and friendly and you were so glad to see her, comforted by her familiar face and warm demeanor.
“You look good as a girl” She joked, breaking away to take a good look at you.
“Thanks, I-“ You began to say, but were interrupted by a deep voice.
“B/N” Cloud said, staring at you as though you were the only person in the room. Despite the emotion in his eyes, his expression remained neutral. “That’s not your real name, is it?”
“No…” You whispered, suddenly feeling a lump in your throat. “It’s Y/N”
“Y/N…” He repeated, nodding his head in deep thought.
The temperature of the room seemed to fall drastically. Something in his tone was ice cold. The silence was absolute, only interrupted by the noise coming from the windows, a reminder that life went on outside of the bar.
“Um… you’ll explain everything later” Biggs muttered, standing next to the pinball machine. “Seems like you need a moment alone”
“Yup, leave you guys to it!” Jessie awkwardly said, sinking into the secret room. One by one, all of her friends followed until you were alone with Tifa and Cloud.
“We have a lot of catching up to do” Tifa sweetly smiled, returning behind the bar. “I’ll prepare some drinks”
You and Cloud stood before one another. His eyes never once left you, looking you up and down as though trying to make sure that you were actually there, that you were real and not one of his many dreams.
“Well…” You awkwardly said, needing to break that suffocating silence. “Where’s Zack?”
Cloud suddenly grimaced, groaning and clutching his head. Concerned, you were about to lean in and put a hand on his arm, but ultimately decided not to do it. You still weren’t sure he wasn’t mad at you. After all, you kept an important secret from him. You lied to him and pretended to be someone you were not. All of this was something you didn’t know he could forgive and you were too scared that he would push you away.
“B/N… I mean, Y/N?” Tifa called, and so you glanced at her. She only shook her head.
The air suddenly left your lungs as you understood what that somber gesture meant. A sob got caught in your throat at the realization. You had been lucky enough to reunite with Cloud, but you would never be able to see Zack again.
Turning back to the blond, you wondered the impact this had on him. After all, he and Zack had been very close and when you left, believing you were dead…
“Oh!” You gasped when a force suddenly made you stumble.
Confused, you paused to notice Cloud’s arms wrapped around you. They urgently pressed you against his chest. An invisible weight seemed to be lifted off your chest as you accepted and treasured his embrace with a sigh of relief.
“I’m glad you’re okay…” He whispered, and in his voice you recognized that softer tone you had been used to. The old Cloud seemed to be shining through the cracks as the new fake Cloud fell apart.
He was breathing heavily, squeezing you against him so tightly that he was hurting you. In spite of it all, you didn’t have the heart to complain. You almost couldn’t breathe, but it could have been because you were starting to sob.
“You too” You cried against his shoulder, now bawling your eyes out as you clung on to his shirt and he held you still.

What if... I save them? A KBTBB fanfic - Part 3
"Hey, Yui, we got a new shipment out back; get on it!" I nod to my boss and head out back to help unload the beer truck. It's been a month and life has not been easy since the escape.  I knew the bidders would be looking for me, so I decided to blend in to the Shinjuku district where they would have a hard time finding me.
I had very little money on me when I escaped, so I was in need of  a job. That fateful night I had wondered the streets of the district, which are safer than most. I headed into a bar that was hidden in one of the alleyways and ordered a drink with the last bit of money I had, I honestly was out of steam, out of luck and just needed something to relax me. A rather large Mexican man served me my drink and ended up conversing with me. He could tell I was having a hard time, but I couldn't tell him exactly why.
"So, you seem to be in trouble young lady." He told me after snuffing out his cigar and sighing. "You can stay here, but you will need to work. Time to put some muscle on those bones and change the way you look, if you're being hunted. That's what I did mija, I had to flee Mexico city... made it all the way over here to get away from some of the narcos."
He's an older gentleman with a fatherly figure aura about him. Don't get me wrong, he looks like he can snap a man in two being 6 foot tall, muscular and stocky, but for some reason I felt at ease with him. I remember crying that night and letting it all out after he closed the bar. He patted my back and told me "you'll work it out later. Go get some rest, I have a cot upstairs in a small room. You can stay there until you get your bearings back. Come on little one."
Thanks to Rafa, I feel like I'm slowly gaining some sort of stability again. A couple of times I have seen some of Soryu's men flashing pictures of me to people, but since my appearance has been altered, I've remained unnoticed. My once brown hair is now jet black; my eyes shine blue once again, I use to wear brown contact lenses for years to fit in more. My arms show signs of muscle forming thanks to helping Rafa unload items to storage and cleaning the bar. I have had to hide under the bar a couple of times just this week alone, thanks to that Inui guy that took a liking to the place, but I can't leave, not yet.
I go to the back of the bar and put on my glasses and gather my hair into a bun; the delivery man and I begin unloading boxes of beer. "Hi Yui! How's Rafa doing today?" He asks. "Same old, same old. He had a rough night last night with a couple of Chinpiras, damn Yakuza wannabe's." He shakes his head, "you know, you should go a few rounds with Rafa, he can teach you to defend yourself." That is actually not a bad idea; I need to learn to defend myself more. "Yeah, that might be something to look into." I wink at him. "Thanks for the idea Ren, I'll catch you around next time." We finish getting the shipment down and bid each other farewell.
As I start to lower the gate I notice a young woman down the alleyway being pushed by a guy in a suit against the wall. It's too early for this shit. "HEY! DICKHEAD! LEAVE HER ALONE!" I yell at him. He looks my way and laughs, "yeah, and what are you going to do about it sweetheart?" I walk towards the man and begin to ball my fists "call me that one more time, I dare you." The girl nervously shakes and cries as she stares at me and him, back and forth, anticipating the worst. "You're asking for it bitch!" He takes a swing at me, I evade and land a punch hard on his chin. The man falls back and on to the ground, the girl runs. My fist burns in protest and I shake it off. "YUI! Muchacha! what in the world are you doing?!" I hear Rafa yell as he comes out of the bar.
"This peace of crap was bothering another girl, I just stopped him." Rafa looks at the man who is starting to get back up. "Hey! you leave and go back to your boss. We want no problems here." The man spits out blood and recomposes himself. "You're both in deep shit. I work for the Ice Dragons, better watch your back, bitch!" He turns around and walks away. Rafa rushes me back inside the bar.
"Yui, I told you to be careful!" I place an icepack on my knuckles. "I know Rafa and I am sorry, but man did that feel good." Rafa laughs and then looks straight at my chest. "RAFA! What are you doing?" He quickly looks the other way and apologizes "sorry mija, your clothes got disheveled and I just noticed that scar on your chest. Where did you get it from?" I completely forgot about that. I fix my shirt and try and think back on it all... "I'm not sure Rafa. I just remember waking up in a small-town hospital; my chest was bandaged up due to burns that I could not recall, I couldn't even remember my real name, still can't."
Rafa's eyes grow wide. "Well, why don't you start there Yui? Go back to the hospital, find out about your past." I walk around cradling my hand with the icepack, thinking about it all, should I? I was adopted shortly after I left the hospital and was blessed with wonderful parents. "Think about mija. You owe it to yourself." I sigh. "You're right Rafa and I want to go and investigate, but maybe after things settle down." Just then we hear a loud bang as the front door is busted in. That man from the Ice Dragons, Inui, comes rushing in, holding his stomach with both hands which seems to be covered in blood. "HELP ME, please Rafa!"
I quickly drop the ice bag and rush to help him lay down. "Calm down, it's going to be okay. What happened?" Inui shakes in pain. "G...g...got st..tabbed! Guy we k...kicked out from drag...gons..." I feel bad for the guy, he seems so sweet and innocent. "Shhh, shhh, okay. Stay with me. Rafa went to get help." Inui quickly shakes his head. "Nnno, no, please, I can't go to a hosspital." Damn it all. Rafa rushes back in an instant, "Mija, here, use these towels and keep the pressure for a moment." He hands me things as he settles himself down to work and injects Inui with some morphine. "Okay, Yui, help me clean him with the vodka bottle I brought, I'm going to stitch him up."
Time passes by slowly for me, but in reality Rafa works quick in patching up Inui. After cleaning the bar and preparing it for tonight, we take turns to check on him. "Yui, mija, what do you think we should do?" Rafa asks me as we whisper to each other, trying to not wake up the uninvited patient passed out on my cot. "I don't know Raf, I'm scared he'll discover who I am and turn me in." He shakes his head and sighs. "Do me a favor, stay here with him. I'll work the bar tonight and think of something." Rafa pats me on the back as he passes by me and heads downstairs.
I close my eyes for a second and run my hands through my hair, just trying to focus and breathe. "Miss, you're Sara, aren't you?" I hear Inui say. I open my eyes in panic and quickly turn to face him. "Inui, please, please listen to me..." He weakly holds up one of his hands. "Shhh, it okay princes, I won't say a thing. You saved my life, and although I value my boss above everything, I owe you and Rafa." A wave of relief crashes over me and I kneel next to him.
"Look Inui, I didn't ask for any of what happened that night. I'm not property, I'm a human being and..." he raises his hand once again to stop me. "I understand, but boss was only trying to help you. He's not a bad man, none of them are. You see, you were going to be bought by some bad people, they all wanted to help you." He tries to sit up, but I push him back down.
"Thanks for telling me Inui. I just can't trust anyone that feels it is okay to treat someone the way they did to me that night. I mean, make me choose someone to buy me? Being taken to that auction? everything! Plus, your boss is in charge of dipshits like the guy I punched earlier." Inui's eyes widen. "Wait, did you punch a man that was wearing a black suit and grey tie?" How did he know? "Wait, how did you?" Inui shakes in anger. "That's the bastard that stabbed me. Boss was mad because he found out the douchebag was beating up his wife and hurting others all in the name of the Dragons and wanted him gone. I found him in the alleyway with a bloody mouth and delivered the news to him that he was no longer a part of our gang, he stabbed me quickly." Shit, this is a small town.
Inui's phone suddenly goes off and Soryu's name pop's up, he quickly answers the phone like the loyal man he is, "boss?" Inui pulls the phone a bit away from his ear as the sound of gunshots and other loud noises can be heard, even from where I am. "Get to the warehouse! We're surrounded and need backup, won't last much longer!" the line suddenly goes dead. Inui closes the phone and tries to stand. "No! You can't Inui, you won't make it!" He fights me and attempts to sit up. "But princess, if I don't go, they'll be taken out, I can't let that happen, Boss, he saved me many times too!"
Damn it all. I push Inui back down and take his gun. "Then I'll go!"

writing-prompt-s:
One day, you lose your wallet, and it is found by a mob boss, who figures out that you aren’t in such a good place financially, and takes pity on you. So they start anonymously sending cash, clothes, and furniture to you in the mail, eventually, the mob boss sends you a letter to stating that they bought you a house, and it lists an adress. What do you do?
so here we go, doin this prompt bc it sparked a interesting scenario in my mind.
but im doin a twist on the mob boss so lets go
Today had already started off horribly for you, more so than the usual bouts of bad luck. It felt like everything that could of gone to hell had and did so with enthusiasm. You woke up late and barely made it on time to work, but you had to skip breakfast in order to do so. Thinking that was the end of it was a stupid mistake you found out later.
When your lunch break had finally rolled around you were practically running on empty and rushed out to make the most of your hour break..Which was ruined midway when your boss informed you that your hours were being cut again via text. He knew you needed all the hours you could get, your rent was due next week and you barely had enough as it was to pay for that let alone eat.
And now to top it all off, you had lost your wallet while storming back to work to try and plead your case to your boss to get your hours back. You only had ten or so minutes to find the damned thing before someone nabbed it and you lost everything else, which at the rate today was going wouldn’t surprise you. But still you scrambled to comb over every inch of ground between your work and the fast food joint you ducked into a while ago. Time was running out and with it your financial stability and ability to fight off the urge to break down into tears over how fucked you were about to be.
Just before the tears could start, you felt a heavy hand rest on your shoulder followed by what was the roughest voice you have ever heard physically. A chill set up your spine as you turned to look up at the speaker. And you had to really look up, which naturally gave you a good view of a very very finely tailored suit of heathered coal and blood red rust.
“ ‘Cuse me, but I think you dropped this back there a little while ago. Figured it was yours after seeing you just about crawl into traffic..”
A Demon..none of the demons you worked with or knew..looked as intimidating as this guy did now..It could of been thanks in part to the pair of thick horns curling out from under his hat..Or maybe the burning coals peering down at you from beneath the brim of his hat. This guy clearly ran with the Mob that you heard talked about in soft whispers. No one human or demon crossed them, if you ran into the wrong one you were guaranteed to be scrubbed from existence shortly after..You had been woken up one night to such a “scrub job” and promptly felt the fear of god enter your soul. The next day it was as if nothing happened, no one wanted to acknowledge it out of fear they’d be next. And here you were being directly addressed in public no less.....you were very suddenly aware of how quiet the streets had gotten.
You’re jogged from your fear induced daydream by a gentle tap on the forehead by something soft, your wallet no less. The Demon was grinning down at you softly, likely having a idea what was going through your head and finding it a bit funny.
“Relax, just felt like helping a poor soul out, just seeing you scramble about like that on the ground just felt like a cry for help..”
You nod and gently take your wallet out of his hand, giving a weak thank you in reply before getting up off the ground at last. Another thank you slips out before you remember the time..shit you’re going to be docked more time if your shitty boss catches you coming back in late...You let out one last hasty thank you and excuse yourself to get back to work before rushing off. The Demon gives you a wave and watches your flight back to safety, the soft grin slowly slipping back into a frown before he fishes a sleek phone out of his pockets and dials up a number.
“Hey, it’s me..yeah I got a job for you, nothin special just a info job for today..”
Out of his breast pocket he pulls out a small slip of paper..a receipt bearing a name. He quietly lists it off to his underlings and hums a soft tune, walking on his way towards his destination.
Back at work your boss unfortunately doesn’t care to hear your sob story about needing more hours..He threatened to outright fire you if you kept badgering him on the matter. You drag yourself back to work and soon forget the encounter, you’re still alive and hell he even helped you find your wallet..Maybe today was finally picking up? The rest of the day passes by thankfully without further incident and soon you come home to pass out, thanks to your boss you now had the day off tomorrow..So least you can sleep in right?
Elsewhere, in a rather stately but comfortable looking office a folder is handed over the desk to a pair of awaiting hands, the demon from before quietly flips through the papers contained within..Every bit of info about you from the last several years openly splayed out for his eyes to glean over..That same small frown deepens the more he reads..You were broke, and that was putting it very gently..How you were even able to eat let alone scramble like that was a surprise to him. He had seen dozens of other pitiable souls like you in this city and passed them by, but you for some reason had struck a chord with him, and that struck him as odd. He had gotten far in this business listening to that little voice in the back of his mind about things, something about you rang right with him..Setting your file on his gut he sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
“ Can’t believe I’m doing this..must be going soft or something.”
Picking up his phone once more, he began dialing a few more numbers, it’d had been a while since he had done some “charity” but something about what he was doing felt..nice. Could be the idea of helping a lost soul in need..or maybe he had taken a liking to you? He couldn’t quite tell just yet, but he’d be keeping a keen eye on you to see what happened next.
The day you had been dreading all month had finally come..you barely had enough money, actually scratch that, you had nowhere near enough now to pay this months rent. You were fucked and you knew it, your landlord was a jackass and hated tenants who didn’t have their money on time...You knew he hated you already, you’ve been late several times in the past and dreaded telling him you were going to be late...again. Gently knocking on the door you mentally braced yourself for the verbal attack that was about to happen. The door’s whipped open and a tall gnarled looking demon cranes his neck out to look at you.
“What are you doin here kid?”
“Ah..I’m here about the rent? Mine’s due today...and uh I need to tell you that I-”
“You’re already good for this month kid. You that sleep deprived that you forgot already paying me?”
“wh-What? I...already paid?”
“Yeah, just got the money this morning. You’re good this month, finally on time for once...Go get some sleep, you look like shit.”
Before you can question him further the door’s slammed shut, leaving you bewildered..but happy? How did you even get the money, hell how did you even manage to get up early to pay? You’d heard of sleep walking but this is something else..But you weren’t about to look a gifted horse in the mouth, you now had some spending money, which meant something to eat besides peanut butter sandwiches and ramen. Running back to get your wallet, you decided to make the most of your day off and get some actual food from the store down the block. That night you practically stuffed yourself on eggs, bacon and pancakes, even having some for tomorrow morning for a actual damn breakfast. Being full on something that wasn’t fried or 90% sugar and carbs you actually felt...human for once. You knew it likely wasn’t going to last but, you’d enjoy it for what you could.
The next day at work was quiet, not that you minded that at all, you got to chat with your coworkers about things and stupid stuff you overheard from customers while on job. It was nice, hell even your boss seemed to leave you alone today, he was usually on your ass about something, or one of the others about some menial task he didn’t think you were doing right..When you got home though you were met with a surprise waiting for you on your doorstep.. A hefty looking box was resting against the door with your name and address on it? You don’t remember ordering anything..maybe it was a package from your parents, which in of itself was rare these days..Dragging it in you searched for a return address and only found..nothing? Least nothing but the shipping company’s address.
Carefully checking the thing for anything dangerous you took the risk and opened it..Waiting a few minutes with the window open as a just in case you soon got over your fear of “death by mail” and rifled through the box’s contents...All of which were clothing? Nothing used, and all in your size strangely enough. Several brand new pairs of jeans, several cute looking shirts and even a nice jacket to boot! You searched the inside again more thoroughly to find any trace or reason behind this gift package..Who would be this nice?? All of this looked fairly expensive...then again you only ever bought clothes used or on sale..everything looked expensive to you nowadays. Shifting things around something in the jacket got your attention..hidden in one of the pockets was..a thick looking envelope?
“oh god please don’t let this be drugs...or something gross..”
Poised near the window again if it was indeed drugs..or something disturbing hidden within, you delicately peeled the letter open...Only to see several thick wads of cash crammed in..along with a note.
“Here’s some spending money. Use it wisely, and have some fun.”
It was hand written..elegant as hell and neat, you admit you stared at the note and cash for a good solid ten minutes as you internally blue screened at the brick of cash now in your hands. Was this reality?? Did you accidentally get hit by a bus and not notice and now this is the afterlife? A thousand explanations blurred through your head trying to make sense of why you now had all of this in your lap. It only got worse when you thumbed through the cash and found out you had been randomly given eight thousand dollars. Your bank account never held that much in years...and now you’re fucking holding it in your hands with no clear explanation as to why or how. Tears of joy and confusion slowly worked their way down your face as you sat on the ground taking it all in. You felt numb but excited all at the same time, you had no idea what the hell you were going to do with all of this...The rational part of your head said to save it and maybe spend a little, the note did say to have fun right?
The next day you went out and bought yourself some shoes, nothing fancy or stupid..but some durable sneakers you had been eyeing for months now, hell you bought two pairs in your favorite colors. Walking out with the bags in hand you felt elated somehow, you knew it was silly but it was something you’ve always wanted. After work you went out to treat yourself at a new eatery you heard some of your coworkers gushing about last week. The food was rich and hearty and good god you ate until you felt like you were about to burst inside. You even got some to take home and eat for lunch tomorrow it was so good..You tipped well, because why not? They were working as hard as you were after all, you went home in high spirits once again.
It went like that for close to a week, you spent close to a thousand or more on yourself getting some things you’d need but could never afford..and maybe a few things you just died wanting..The rest had been carefully deposited into your account, not all at one because you were ungodly afraid of being questioned about where the hell you were getting so much money. You felt nice knowing you’d have something of a decent living for a while. And just as your figured things were back to normal, during your day off you got a heavy set of knocks on your door.
Scrambling after the second set of knocks you open the door to see a tired but gruff looking man standing in your doorway holding a clipboard and staring you down.
“Delivery’s here, you ordered a bed and couch set yea? Me and the boys are here to confirm your order and help set things up.”
“...wh....Who? Wait I never ordered anything like that...?”
“This your address though right?”
Seeing the bewildered look on your face he shows you the order form..it is your name and address. You decide you can’t really tell this guy no, judging by the steady tired glare he’s leveling your way. You confirm and he asks for a signature. Once that was taken care of he vanishes back down the stairs for several minutes, only to come back up with a few other strong looking men and women hefting up a mattress and what looks like a frame? You get out of the way and they slip in with practiced ease and one starts setting up the frame while your old mattress is stripped and taken out.
“Forgot to mention, paid for removal as well. Pretty good tip to boot..We’ll be back inna sec with the new couch..you want it in the main room right?”
“Y-yeah..thank you.”
The bed was set up in record timing and soon a brand new, very plush looking couch now stood in your front room..The old weather beaten couch you got off the curb long since gone with the old mattress you bought years ago as well..Both looked so soft and comfortable you almost felt wrong sleeping or sitting on either..It felt like you were in someone elses house almost now..Feeling a bit out of sorts you decide to head out for a little while and maybe get some air..possibly something to eat now that you had the spare cash for it.
Walking down the street you were slowly heading towards one of your old favorite places to eat, a old style burger diner sort of deal. The food was amazing and pretty cheap despite the quality of the food being so good. As you walked towards the doors you felt a heavy hand clap down on your shoulder, making you squawk out in surprise and turn to see a familiarly scary sight. He was donned in a sea blue and lavender suit this time, but those horns and eyes were still the same.
“Hey long time no see! Heh, sorry about scaring ya just now, bad habit of mine movin quietly like that..”
“N-no problem, just made me jump a little is all..but yeah it’s been a while huh? H-how’ve you been?”
“Busy as a bee these days, you know how it is. No rest for the wicked and all that. You know this place? Been running around all day and forgot to eat, now I’m paying for it big time and I’m dyin for something good.”
“Oh..yeah I love this place..it’s got some good burgers and fries..”
“Well then you’ve twisted my arm, let’s head in and find us a seat huh?”
Before you can ask him to clarify what he means by us, there’s a thick arm wrapped around your shoulders and gently herding you inside alongside its massive owner. The brief silence that meets your arrival is short lived but not unnoticed as you’re swept inside. Looking about your newfound friend peeks down at you for a second.
“Hey you wanna grab a booth together or you wanna do your own thing?”
You dwell on it for a second or two...honestly you were curious about this strange demon..for someone as big and damned terrifying they somehow also managed to look..friendly all in the span of a few seconds. And it wasn’t like he’d kill you or something in public...possibly.
“Sure I don’t mind a booth, lead the way?”
With that he resumes steering you towards a free booth and the both of you slip in to get comfortable. After a moment he slips his hat off and for the first time you notice he doesn’t look....well that damn scary, you’re blaming demon magic for the burning coal eyes possibly. Other than the long faded scar tracking over one eye and cheek he looked..nice even.
“There something on my face?”
...Course he caught you staring, you falter for a second but manage to catch yourself fast enough to not look stupid as hell.
“I was just thinking, I never caught your name from before..and I never told you mine..haha, I guess I was just a bit scatterbrained that day and more focused on not being late for work..’’
“Hey no worries, happens to all of us..And shame on me for not bothering to introduce myself sooner. Name’s Desmondias Neri, pleasure to meet you.”
He offers a large hand for you to shake over the table and you smile before shaking and introducing yourself in kind, you quietly notice how damn small your hand looks in his..Then again you’re fairly short to begin with..most demons were just unfairly tall.
Before you could dwell on it more the waitress comes to get your drink orders and tell you about specials, Desmondias flips through the menu a brief moment as you rattle off your usual order..A cheeseburger with bacon and plenty of fixings..along with onion rings and tots..Listening to your order he hummed softly, apparently interested at the choice enough to just about order the same only double the meat and with extra fries. The waitress walks off to put your orders in and he grins at your surprised face.
“What? Told you I haven’t eaten almost all day, I could practically eat a horse by now..and what you ordered sounded pretty good.”
“Well I can’t really argue that..they have good onion rings here, if I could I’d eat here every day but it’s a bit of a walk so I only go when I got the time..”
The next several minutes are spent with you both happily chatting about your lives and favorite past times..its strange how easy you find yourself talking to Desmondias..like a old friend you ran into after not seeing him for years. The food comes sometime later and you both dig in all the while still chattering away..He breaks it up briefly by asking if your day after the wallet incident got any better?
You pause to clear your throat and eagerly tell him about all the strange shit that had been going on to you since then, with so very few friends outside of work you had been dying to tell someone else about this strange occurrence. Desmondias looks about as shocked as you were when you first got the gifts.
“Really? All that happened? Jeeze someone must really like you then, you sure it’s not some secret admirer in your apartments helping you out or something?”
You let out a laugh at the thought of someone being smitten with you enough to give you eight thousand dollars along with other things..You don’t tell him that of course, instead you tell him you’d be surprised if someone who could afford to do all that was living in such a run down complex like that. It wasn’t much of a secret that the area you were in now was effectively the slums..Only dead broke or immigrants bothered living where you were..and you were deadass broke...well were deadass broke.
While you were going off about it all you failed to spot the thoughtful look pass over Desmondias’s face..The rest of the meal goes over fairly well and soon the two of you are heading back out the doors feeling happy and well fed. Your new friend has donned his spooky demon eyes hat as you’re now calling it once more, but that big grin ruins the evil look as he gently claps your shoulder.
“I think it was my lucky day running into you, haven’t had a cheeseburger that good in a long while..And you were right about those onion rings, I’ll have to remember this place if I’m ever hankering for more fast food.”
“No problem, was nice to be able to sit down and grab a bite with you, haven’t had this much fun inna while myself. Wouldn’t mind meeting up with you to do it again if you’re ever in the neighborhood...”
“Was that you asking me out on a date just now~?”
“Wh-!? No no! I just...I just meant if, if you know if you wanted to, that’s all!”
You could feel your face flush up as a deep well of laughter works its way out of Desmondias’s chest, somehow it sounds nice hearing him laugh, the thought’s immediately pushed aside however as he catches his breath.
“I know I know, I’m just teasing ya calm down..But yeah I’d love to do this again with you sometime, I could use the downtime to relax..I should probably give you my number right?”
“Yeah that might help..I can give you mine as well, I got my phone out so just put it in through here”
A few clicks later and a test text and now you both could call one another at your leisure.. Turning to head home after waving goodbye you hear Des, the nickname he put himself down as and told you he preferred it of all things, calling out to you as he walked the other way.
“See ya soon then for our next date! Hahaa!”
You feel your face blush hard as his laughter rings out over your indignant yelling, but the smile on your face stopped any forced venom from seeping into your angry cries at him as he fled homeward.
A month or two passes by, you and Des keep in contact with one another via texts and silly pictures off and on. You do meet up to eat at the diner more than once, Des has taken to calling it his “burger date” which after the first few times has grown on you. Your anonymous admirer has since then given you another eight thousand dollars..you’re still gobsmacked about whoever this is doing this out of the blue..You tell your demon pal about it and he’s as clueless as you are about the entire thing and wonders if the next installment’s going to include a ring. You nearly choke on your food and he apologizes through a fit of giggles over nearly killing you.
“Well I mean if someones givin me that sorta cash they must have a thing for me right?”
“Yeah but I’m not about to marry some stranger whos being my...well my sugar daddy..Or sugar momma if it’s a woman..Hell I’d just want to know who’s doing this so I could find out why and maybe thank them? Maybe get to know them and all that, I just wanna know why they’re doing all this for me..”
“You’ve got me man, I’m still surprised they’re keeping it up this long without dropping in to finally introduce themselves..maybe they’re shy?”
You shrug and pop another onion ring into your mouth...whoever this mysterious benefactor was, you dearly hoped they’d reveal themselves sooner or later.
Another week passes and one day as you come in from work, you find another thick envelope..it’s different from the ones you were used to seeing full of cash, it was a manilla one this time and it felt rather sturdy with whatever was inside. Taking it to open on the couch you dumped the contents into your lap. Inside was a very ornate looking letter and some official looking documents...
The letter itself simply said “Enjoy” in that same flourishing calligraphy you’ve come to know as your admirers handwriting. The documents themselves were what looked like.....a deed to a house somewhere uptown and statements saying it was paid for..Along with that was a letter of acceptance to a new job nearby that you could only dream of getting..
Your heart stopped beating..or was it beating so fast you couldn’t feel it anymore, with the level of shock you were now in it was hard to tell. That same numbness of disbelief was slowly setting in..A house, a actual literal fucking house was bought and paid for you..Along with a job that’d more than pay for its rent and everything..
Scrambling to find your phone you sent a alarmed text to Des explaining what just happened and advice for what to do..Several minutes pass by at a agonizing pace before he responds. He’s just as shocked, and asks if you want to go check it out? He even offers to come with in case it’s some shifty nonsense..and frankly you could almost kiss him for the offer. You were scared shitless of going to this place alone..but with Des beside you it should be fine..and hell you’d have a witness if they turned out to be creepy and murderous..
You get dressed and agree to meet Des at the nearby subway to head on over together, you’re clearly nervous and Des does his best to calm your nerves as you both make your way to the address. When you arrive you find out it looks...nice, beautiful even. The neighborhood is quiet and serene, you can even spot a park nearby as you both walk to the given address.
“This looks like the place...you ready to go in or do you need a moment?”
“Nah I’m fine..let’s check it out..maybe whoever’s behind all of this is inside waiting for me...”
“Well...only one way to find out right?”
You nod and the two of you walk for the stairs, Des placing a hand on your shoulder gently..a gesture that you’ve come to appreciate as his demonic warmth seeps into you. It helps shake off the chills of fear trying to set in as you reach for the door and undo the lock with the key the letter enclosed.
Beyond the door was...nothing, well nothing but a empty hall and living room. A few carpets littered the floor but it looked clear of anything else. You looked around to see if anyone was lurking about, anxiety growing as you couldn’t find another soul in the house. Des on the other hand remained in the living room, simply watching you run about searching.
“I don’t get it...Wouldn’t they be here if they’re giving me something like a damn house?? What the hell is going on...I thought..I thought they’d be here..”
Des..let out a long sigh before slipping his hat off and looking at you square in the face.
“They are here though...I uh, got something to tell you. It’s me..I’m the mysterious secret admirer.”
“ ...w...what? What? No it’s...It can’t be?”
“It is though, it is me..Remember that day I found your wallet? I found it half open in the hands of some shitty pickpocket who was just about to throw it away after seeing how little was in there..He tossed it at me after saying it was a waste of effort and took off..After I found you I might have done some digging and found out just how right he was..”
“You..you just somehow found out how poor I was and sent me shit..was this all out of pity???”
“Only the rent the first time was, I admit that..And maybe the clothes and cash but I saw you out later shopping and...and well..”
“Well what? What are you talking about?”
“You looked happy..something about seeing you smile like that struck me dead and I couldn’t stop thinking about it..about you..I know that sounds creepy I’m sorry. I was just planning on sending you the couch and bed and leaving it at that for good..But then I met you at the burger joint and thought it was fate telling me otherwise..I had fun that night..and getting to know you since then only made it more so...”
You felt what shock and anger that had set in slowly dissipate as he talked..Sure you were still pissed that most of this was a gift of pity..a gift that you really really needed but still.. But the bigger fact that you had apparently got a demon smitten with you doing nothing shoved that anger aside as your face flushed a bright pink..
“So..so all those times you kept asking me to go for burger dates were..were actual dates?? Wait wait...wait how the hell are you able to afford all this? All that money you gave me this whole time..How aren’t you broke Des??”
He gives you a small grin at the question before standing up straight, almost proudly so..
“Well..I mean I am..sort of the Head of the Demon Mob for this side of the city. That kinda helps out alot actually, what you got is pretty much pocket change for me in the long run..”
“wait..wiat you’re the..I’m dating the actual fuckin head of a mob??? The fucking Demon Mob???”
“Yeah, why else would I wear these suits? I know they make me look good but in summer they’re absolute hell to deal with..But yeah, I’m the head of the mob..and we’re kinda dating...If you want to that is.”
“...Well..I mean..I don’t mind it? You’ve been so sweet and fun, and who else out here is going to give me a damn house?? I got a house over taking a demon mobster out for burgers and stupid memes..”
“Hey that’s not all that..I like the way your face crinkles up when you laugh at some stupid joke I tell you..And the way your eyes light up when you’re talking about something good that happened to you that day..”
“Oh god..sh shut up..shut up you’re going to make me blush talking like that...jeeze Des, you’re a huge sap for a demon..”
“You’re already red enough in the face to be mistaken for a imp though..heheh..And what can I say? Can’t help it when I’ve found someone worth spoiling with affection and shit..”
“...pfft, alright fine..You win you big nerd, I’ll take the stupid awesome house..”
“Was hoping you’d say that~”
You couldn’t help but grin back at Des’s stupid happy look now plastered on his face. When you told him as such he snorted and moved to scoop you up into a hug as you squeaked at him in surprise, much to his delight.
The next week you were settled in at last, Des and a few of his helpers gladly assisted you moving in and getting some more things to fill the place out. They had all been dying to meet the person their boss had been gushing about for months now, much to Des’s dismay at them all telling you about it.
In the span of a few months your life had gone from hell to..well surprisingly comfortable. The job turned out to be working alongside Des’s men as a intern in the accounting department, it paid fairly well and you got along with everyone just fine. In a way you had joined the mob and life couldn’t have been better, you made sure to tell Des as much whenever the two of you went on a “Burger Date”.

The Great War New Years Special
D&D 5e Campaign The Great War
New Years Off As Wade looks around happy to be home everyone begins opening their gifts from Santa. As everyone looks over their gifts Rin and Ara try theirs out and suddenly they go into magical girl transformation sequences which changes their outfits. It is shortly after this that some black SUVs pull up along with a black Limo sporting american flags on it. Out walks an orange man in a suit. “Hello ladies, gentlemen, and other creatures. I’ve got an issue I need your help with. You see there is this covid thing that is causing a global pandemic to happen. It’s a yuge problem. I tried building a wall to keep it out and that didn’t help. I tried throwing money at it you know with the stimulus checks and things and still nothing. I was sure throwing it about tree fitty would cause it to go away. I digress though, Mr. Pool you and Venom if you will come down here, (Venom drops down out of a tree) due to your immunities to things. I need you to take care of this. All of the other heroes are in quarantine right now.” At that moment he is interrupted by a phone call and the ring tone sounds off ‘oompa, doompa, dupity, doo..’ He answers the call, “Yes, yes I will be back to the factory soon guys. I’ve only got a few more weeks and this job is over.” About this time a crazy old man pops out of the bushes, “Yeah finally you can stop things and I can do things because things are things and what were we talking about again? Oh yeah, I won and you are fired, wait… what did I win though? I can’t remember, where am I again? Are there any children that want their picture taken with the future president? Kids with pretty shoulders?” About that time a car pulls up and directs the old man back inside as they apologize for his interruption. About that time the orange one gets off the phone, “Anyway that is what I need you guys to do so good luck and make America great again.” He then walks back to his limo and pulls away. “Ok so let's split up and figure this shit out, because I’ve got a lady to see and this job is in the way. Everyone into the pimp sled, got to make this quick and this is faster than NY traffic.” Wade said as he rushed everyone on board. He flew around the city dropping the party off at different locations. He dropped Rooklus and Venom off at the arena where the WWE matches were being held.  He dropped Rin off at a church, Tinkerman at an internet cafe, Angra and JJJ were dropped off at St. Mary’s Bar. On his way to his last stop he takes a turn too sharp and Biska goes flying off and lands in Chinatown. After he makes sure she is ok, he tells her to just check around there. Wade then heads off with Ara and Baruch to a concert. Meanwhile back at the arena, Venom and Rooklus, unable to contain themselves with the promise of the thrill of battle, jump on into the ring. Rooklus starts to attempt to ask about where this covid source can be found however as soon as he hits the ring mat the announcer starts announcing the fighters. In this corner are champions the Flaming Brutor and Leo the Lion and the crowd goes wild. In the other corner we have The Hairy Man and, and that thing. They start wrestling each other and putting on a show for the crowd. In the end Rooklus and Venom manage to scare Leo and make him piss himself and run off the stage, saying he didn’t get paid enough for this. Then with the two on one advantage they managed to pin Brutor winning the fight and were awarded the Champion’s Belt. Rin tried to pray and got no response, it seems gods don’t respond in this realm. So she asked around about this covid pandemic. She heard everything from it started with some bad bat soup in China. Others were saying it was a  secret biological weapon that China was working on and it accidently got out. Still others said it was fake and completely made up. A few people said that it came from god and was a sign that the end was near. Rin suddenly formed an odd twitch in her eye from the stupidity and cluelessness she was hearing so she walked out to get some air and wait for Wade to return. She saw across the street what appeared to be a magical viewing screen pavilion like she remembered from Lunarias. She went inside to watch a double feature, an old Samurai film and Star Wars. She saw in both films projectiles being batted away and blocked by sword like weapons. Suddenly Rin had an epiphany, she could likely do this using her sword. In fact most warriors should be able to. Why had no one thought of this? Why was no one teaching this? Rin decided right there to learn it herself and make it a part of the Lunarias’ training regiment once she got back there. Tinkerman went into the internet cafe with the cord that Wade had given him and asked the clerk some questions before going to a computer. The entire time he was taking notes on the box he was looking at. Once online he started looking up info for covid and sadly found basically the same stupidity that Rin had found but he also found some blueprints of things that would aid him in making things. After he was finished, he asked the clerk where he could buy one of those handy talking devices that everyone was using. She directed him to a store down the street. Tinkerman walked down to the store and bought a smartphone and after a few minutes figured out how to operate it and started tracking Wade’s phone and headed out to his location. Angra and JJJ find pretty much the same random stories that everyone else has while at the bar. Biska helps a small child find her mother and as a reward the little girl hands her a panda backpack as thanks. Wade, Baruch, and Ara listen to “The Pretty Reckless” in concert. Towards the end Wade goes and takes a piss and Taylor the lead singer motions for Ara and Baruch to go backstage.  Once backstage she tells them both how they can sense some mad musician aura coming off of them. Ara especially has a very distinct aura. After talking with them a bit and telling them about her college friend in London, England who has a professor that is onto something with the whole covid mess. They also talked about how amazing it is to be a musician. She hands Baruch her old acoustic guitar and tells him it was what she learned to play on and it should help him learn to play just like it did for her. She then tells Ara that she had a premonition about their meeting so she picked up this Pyroguitar for her from her home realm. She explains to her that it is much like the guitar she used on stage but it runs on magical fire instead of electricity. She then tells Baruch he should go find the idiot that came with otherwise he would leave without them for sure. Baruch left to go find Wade. Taylor then dropped her illusion spell and showed that she was a succubus too. She told her to just hold on this might tingle a bit and then she locked lips with Ara downloading centuries of succubus history and lore into her brain teaching her how to properly seduce as only a succubus can. Ara being the slut she is decided to go ahead and test it out on Taylor. Taylor wasn’t really resisting so it was rather easy and the ended up naked back stage. Once done, they both got dressed and winked at each other before Ara walked out to go find Baruch and Wade who were both waiting just outside the room both of them pretending they didn’t just listen to what they listened to for the past 30 mins. The trio stepped outside and saw Tinkerman waiting for them, he had managed to find his way all the way there. Together they all took the sled around and picked everyone back up and flew over to London, England. Once there they find the professor in a museum and begin to ask him questions. As the group asks him questions Baruch is distracted by the magic Aura he sees coming off a skull on the table. He makes a comment that the skull is rather interesting. The professor says he finished studying it a few months ago and had nothing left of importance to find dealing with it. Told Baruch if he wanted to take it he could have it, it was just going to be cremated later anyway. Baruch gladly accepted it. The professor then took them down to the lab in the basement of the museum and  there he showed them his findings. It appears to be from some creature living in China.  Where the creature came from he wasn’t sure but it was for sure over there. While in the lab Angra spies some poisons on the counter that he hadn’t ever seen before. Angra’s desire for new poisons to use causes him to lose all sense and he manages to quickly steal them without anyone noticing. The party then loads up and heads off to Hong Kong, China. There Wade speaks in a language that no one else can understand and manages to workout there has been a really foul smell coming from a mountain for over a year and instead of doing anything about it everyone just avoids that area. Wade drops the party off at the peak and says he has something he needs to take care of and takes off. At the peak they find this disease infested tentacle creature. This was clearly the source of all this; it was too disgusting not to be. The group engages in battle with the creature and together with the parties overwhelming otherworldly powers they are able to take it down and avoid getting sick. Tinkerman then calls Wade to ask him what’s next, they beat this creature. Wade responded “Oh you did? Cool, I totally didn’t shove that off onto you because I didn’t feel like messing with it. So I take it everyone is ready to go home?” Tinkerman responded yes.  Wade then said “Cool because I finally got a thing from a certain genius that will stabilize my portals so bye.” Upon hanging up the party are sucked into a portal and put back into their beds at the Inn.

The Misadventures of Prince Kim - chapter 36
This one was already ready but I told myself to stop procrastinating on other stuff before posting it... and then ignored myself and decided to post it anyway because if there is one person who is a bigger fool than Kim, it is me. Anyway, here be lots of Kimax :D
And also on AO3, as always
Marinette and Adrien took almost a week to travel all the way back to Cheng, having to take the carriage since the trains were still not running, as always. Ever since Agreste had started taking over territory deep into Asia, all the rail lines had “mysteriously” been stopped with no sign of starting up again, even for royalty. It was no secret that the empire was using them to transport mined goods back to their capital and preventing anyone else from sharing.
“Marinette, it’s so good to see you!” Queen Sabine exclaimed when they arrived, rushing forwards hug her daughter. Formal royal customs and protocol were rarely followed in Marinette’s tight-knit family. “I’m so glad you made it here safely.”
“What do you mean?” Marinette asked.
“Nothing in particular,” King Tom said, joining the hug. “It’s just that the state of the world has been a bit… tense, lately. Like anything could go wrong at any point. But don’t worry – you’ll always be safe here at home!”
“Where’s Kim?” Sabine asked, looking at the carriage, frowning. “And who’s this?”
“This is, um, Felix,” Marinette said, grabbing Adrien’s hand and pulling him over. “He’s a noble, a refugee fleeing from the Agreste Empire when they took his homeland. I said he could stay here with us for the holidays.”
“It is nice to meet you, Felix,” Sabine said. “You can always feel free to come here whenever you need to. Our kingdoms do not support the Agreste Empire at all.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Adrien said, bowing. “It is an honour to be here.”
“And where is Kim?” Tom asked. “I thought he would be staying here with us too. The more guests, the merrier!”
“He went to stay with Max,” Marinette said, trying not to smile too much. She could guess perfectly well why Kim had wanted to stay with Max so much. She had been suspecting it right since she saw how much Kim missed Max during the summer holidays, and her suspicions were practically confirmed when Kim had quickly dashed into her room to let her know he wouldn’t need to stay in Cheng this time. His eyes had practically been glowing.
“Oh, well that’s nice for him!” Tom continued. “It’s good to explore and make friends with leaders from all over the world. Having allies will be very important for him.”
Friends… allies… neither of those quite captured it. Marinette tried not to grin again.
“Speaking of which,” Sabine said, “his grandmother, the Queen-Regent of Lê Chiến, has been corresponding with us again and has a proposition, though of course we won’t decide on anything without your input. You and Kim are close in age and good friends, and our countries would certainly be stronger with a formal alliance between them – especially considering everything that’s going on with Agreste right now. So what do you say to a betrothal?”
“W-what?” Marinette could feel the blood rushing away from her face.
“You don’t have to decide straightaway! It’s just an option.”
“Me? Betrothed to Kim?” She shook her head. “He’s… he’s great and all, but… but…”
“Remember, marriages between royals are usually for necessity and politics, not love. At least Kim is someone you get along with. If you agree to this now, you won’t have to worry that later you’ll end up engaged to someone much worse.”
Marinette gulped. How to explain to her parents that she was already in love with Adrien, the heir to the throne of the empire that was her sworn enemy? How to explain that Kim was clearly already interested in someone else?
“And didn’t you used to have a crush on Kim?” Tom asked, winking at her.
“What? That was like 10 years ago!” She blushed just remembering it. Alright, she had once had a bit of a soft spot for Kim when they were little kids. But she was long over that! Kim was more like a brother to her these days.
“Well just have a think about it, alright? We won’t force you into anything, we promise. We just want safety and stability for our countries, and happiness for our wonderful daughter and her good friend. It would be a good match.”
“I’m in love with Felix!” Marinette blurted out, gripping Adrien’s hand tightly in her own. “Felix and I, we’re… we’re a couple.”
Her parents blinked, silent for a few seconds, taken aback. They recovered quickly.
“In that case we will have to tell Kim’s grandmother that you will be rejecting the proposal,” Sabine said, smiling. “It would be quite unfair for you to have to marry someone else when you’re already together with someone who would be a perfectly appropriate match.”
“I’m so happy for you two!” Tom said, giving them both a clap on the back. “Say, Felix, where did you say you were from again?”
“An area near the 1st region,” Adrien mumbled. Marinette could feel his hand shaking and sweating. Well, he wasn’t exactly lying – his home palace really was near the 1st region.
“And what title are you? We need to know how to formally address you.”
“Um… Duke of the Alpine,” he replied. That wasn’t entirely a lie either – one of Adrien’s many titles included Duke of the Alpine. Thank goodness Cheng was so far away that it would be hard for her parents to verify his claim. She really did not like having to lie to them, but it was necessary for Adrien’s safety. No one could know he was here.
“Wonderful! Well, Duke Felix, we look forward to getting to know you. Come on inside and we’ll show you around!”
“Thank you,” Adrien mumbled, moving to follow them.
Marinette breathed a sigh of relief. At least Adrien was safe for now. How long was he going to have to stay undercover for? There was no end in sight to the tyranny of the Agreste Empire, nor its enmity with Lê Chiến. What would happen if war broke out? What if Adrien was discovered, and forced to return home? Nothing boded well. Marinette had no idea how her relationship with him was going to survive.
But at least he was okay for the time being. That was the most important thing.
Meanwhile, over on another part of the planet, Kim had already spent a week with Max in Kanté. Things were quite similar to how they had been last year, and yet… something was different, too. Kim couldn’t help wondering if somehow the sun was shining more brightly, or perhaps the air was fresher, or maybe everything had been cleaned thoroughly enough to sparkle.
“Kim, slow down!” Max called, half-laughing, as Kim pulled him along by the hand. “We’ve got plenty of time!”
“But it’s more fun to run!”
Within a few more seconds they had reached where they were running to – the top of the large grassy dome overlooking the capital city. It was one of the places Max had taken him while sightseeing last year. Kim remembered how magical it had felt here last time, seeing the bustling metropolis beneath them, almost too futuristic to believe, with aeroplanes zooming through the sky above them…
And yes, there it was again! This time it looked so magical it felt like being in a dream, or in some other world entirely. There were maglev train tracks stretching off into the desert, colourful skyscrapers for miles around, thousands and thousands of cars driving along the immaculate roads! Everything was amazing!
Kim pulled out of his pocket a little camera he had bought from a tourist shop earlier. He lifted it up to take a picture of the view…
Hmm, something was missing. It wasn’t possible to get the scope of the city without something in the foreground to contrast it.
“Max, can you just stand there for a second?” Kim asked, pointing at the very top of the hill.
“You want to take a picture of me?”
“Yeah! This picture would look awesome with you in it!”
Max went and stood on the very top of the summit. “How’s this?”
“That’s perfect!” Kim had to stop himself from saying “You’re perfect”. He looked through the lens and took the photo. This was going to look amazing!
“Thanks!” Max said, coming back over to him. “I can’t wait to see what these look like when we get the film developed.”
“Me too!” Kim put the camera back in his pocket. “Hey, do you think I could cartwheel all the way down this hill? How many cartwheels would it take?”
Max frowned. “My guess is about 8, but I would also guess that broken wrists or ankles would be a likely outcome, so I would advise against it.”
That was so sweet! Max was concerned for his wellbeing! Wait, of course he was – he was Kim’s best friend. Duh. Kim knew he needed to stop taking every little interaction as romantic in nature. He was too sappy and lovesick for his own good.
“You’re right,” he said. “Anyway Max, today was another awesome day, so uh… thanks for showing me around again. I hope you’re not getting tired.”
“Don’t worry, I’m definitely not! It’s not every day I get to show my favourite city in the world to one of my best friends in the world.”
The way Max was standing there beaming at him, in front of the beautiful landscape, the wind ruffling his hair...
“Kim? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine!” Kim said quickly. “Fine. Just, uh, tired. Maybe we should go back to the palace now and get some rest. After all, we’ve got that yuletide diplomatic ball thing to attend tomorrow, right?”
Max’s kingdom was hosting this year’s Peace Ball that took place every December, with leaders from every country in the International Alliance attending. It was probably going to be posh and formal and boring, but at least Max would be there too. Hopefully it wouldn’t be too bad.
“Yes, we need to prepare for that,” Max said, nodding. “In fact, I’ve got a surprise in store for you about that.”
“Ooh, really? What?”
“You’ll see very soon!”
He chuckled and began walking back down the hill, towards where the guards were waiting. Kim just took his hand again and ran, pulling him down behind him. He could hear Max laughing away so happily. It was so cute!
They arrived back at the palace soon enough, and Kim went back to his room to rest. He lay on the bed and stared up at the ceiling fan above him, the blades spinning so fast they merged into a blur. Almost like his own heartbeat. He couldn’t get this stupid grin off his face. One thought kept running through his mind:
Thank goodness for Max.
He was serious. Not just because he was in love with him, but in general. Thank goodness Max was around. Everything recently had been going so wrong – the flu pandemic, the looming war between Agreste and Lê Chiến, his grandfather’s suspicious death, the fact that he was going to soon be responsible for an entire country, just everything being so confusing he could barely sort out his own emotions or even tell up from down.
But here, with Max by his side, were a few weeks of respite. It was like being in a blissful bubble of peace and happiness. Being able to spend time with Max, no school to get in the way, just forgetting about all his worries for a little while. This was exactly what he needed in his life right now. It was almost no wonder he had fallen in love with Max – how could he resist someone who was just this perfect for him?
That being said, he still wasn’t sure whether or not Max loved him back like that. Of course Max cared about him, that much was certain. But romantically? That was another matter.
When should he tell him? This sort of thing should not be rushed, that had already caused him enough trouble in the past. Asking out Chloé on a whim had been a disaster, kissing Adrien at the winter party in first year had made things awkward between them, and running away immediately after confessing to Alix had caused him a lot more stress than he needed. This time he needed to think it through properly.
What about the Cupid Festival? A day like that would be perfect for confessing his true feelings! And anyway, Max was his best friend. Even if he didn’t love Kim back like that, he wouldn’t be weirded out or anything. Things would still go well. Yes, the Cupid Festival seemed like a good day to do it. He had made up his mind.
Until then, though…
He covered his face with his hands, knowing he was blushing, not entirely caring. Spending time with Max was so much fun! It always had been, but something was just so different now. And Kim had had plenty of crushes before, too many to count, and he had been so head over heels for people he didn’t think he would be able to get over it, and yet…
This still felt different somehow. Never before had he fallen in love so slowly, so gently. Usually he just met someone cute for the first time and that was it, he would be smitten. But not this time. The fact that he loved Max now just seemed like an extension of their close friendship. That they had grown closer and closer over the years, and at some point Kim’s feelings for him slipped from platonic to romantic without him even realizing. He was sure that hadn’t happened with anyone else before.
With Chloé, he’d just talked to her a little at her birthday banquet, feeling so flustered at how pretty and powerful she was, and then decided to ask her out when he saw her again at school. There had been nothing slow about it. With Adrien, he hadn’t realized what he was feeling at the time was a crush, since he didn’t know that was possible, but he definitely had strong feelings for him right from the beginning. It only hit him at the winter party. And as for Alix, well… Kim could easily pinpoint the moment he realized he liked her. But his crush on her had always felt very separate from their friendship, almost like it was oddly superficial despite how strong it did indeed get.
But Max! Kim thought back over the past few months, trying to recall everything. He had missed Max’s company so much over the summer holidays, more than he had expected to… he had been so grateful to see Max go into quarantine just for him… he felt so oddly happy waking up every day and knowing Max was there with him… and he won arm wrestles just by hearing Max laugh… cuddled with him after the earthquake… cried into his arms after receiving that letter from home… not wanted to put him down after the spider incident–
There was a knock on the door. Kim sat up, wondering if that was Max. It must be – who else could it be? No one else here really bothered talking to him.
His brain felt strangely reckless all of a sudden. In the spring holidays, when he had answered the door without a shirt on, Max had run away with a nosebleed, right? What if he did it again? Just to see if Max still liked him, or was he over him now? Wait, was that even a good idea? Oh – who cared!
He pulled his shirt off and scrunched it up in his hand, really not thinking about it properly, then ran towards the door and opened it to see–
ALIX?!
What was she doing here?!
She took one look up at him and burst into laughter. “Kim, what the… did you think I was Max or something, were you like… trying to impress him or what…?!” She wiped a few tears out of her eyes, she was laughing so much. Even her snake looked like it was laughing somehow.
“Don’t tell him,” Kim muttered, grumpily putting his shirt back on. Why did the shirt thing never freaking work, darn it?!
“Don’t worry, I won’t,” she said, still grinning rather annoyingly. “But I don’t think you need to worry about impressing Max like that, he already knows perfectly well how shredded you are. You know, because of the spring holidays? When you did this exact same thing except you were trying to impress me instead? Which wouldn’t have worked because–”
“So what are you doing here?” Kim asked quickly. He didn’t want to think about the spring holidays.
“Setting you up with Max, of course. And also I have to attend the Peace Ball since I’m a pharaoh and my kingdom practically founded the International Alliance, so yeah. At least it won’t be so boring this year with you two here. Posh events like these can be very romantic, I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. So you and Max have to get together.”
“I was thinking maybe the Cupid Festival might be better…”
“What, really? That overrated festival day where people use it as an excuse to be all mushy in public and act like romance is the only kind of love there is, or all that matters? No thanks, I am far too aromantic for that – which reminds me of another reason I’m here. I have to get that science journal off Max. Don’t ask. Oh, and one more reason – to give you this.”
She handed him a little box-like thing with an electric screen and buttons on it.
“Is this a phone?” he asked. It looked a bit like one, but the ones he had usually seen had wires connecting them to the electricity lines. The only portable ones he had seen were Max’s phone and Alix’s sceptre-phone-thing, whatever it was.
“Yep, it’s a phone, and it’s yours now. Special gift from my kingdom.”
What? An expensive portable phone… just for him?
“You really didn’t have to,” he mumbled, trying to ignore the fact that his eyes were suddenly watering.
“Oh shush, you have to keep it. Anyway, you can use it to properly keep in touch with your family once they’ve fixed the telecommunication lines, without having to send letters! And also this phone has an update with the very latest technology, where you can send people messages by typing them in using the buttons. Kind of like sending a letter, except instantaneous. Look.”
She grabbed it off him and selected the little letter icon from the menu, then showed him the two phone numbers already stored in his phone – hers and Max’s. All you had to do was type in any message, then select who to send it to, then press enter and – voila! It was simple.
“That’s actually really cool,” he said, taking the phone back. “Seriously, thank you so much!”
“Hey, it’s no problem. You deserve some good things to happen to you now. Your year has been pretty sucky so far.”
Without even needing to think, he bent down and hugged her. “Thanks for being the coolest best friend ever. And your year hasn’t exactly been the greatest so far either, with all the like… timeline nonsense and stuff, so…”
“Oh man, don’t even bring up those stupid timelines,” she said.
“Why, what happened now?”
“You don’t wanna know. Like trust me, you really, really, do not wanna know.”
“Are you sure?” He grinned. “What, is it too ‘embarrassing’ to tell me about again?”
She whacked his arm with her sceptre. “It’s embarrassing for you too, you dolt. Anyway, I’ve got a science journal to be reading, so I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah, bye.”
She left, and Kim closed the door. He looked down at his new phone. This thing… could it really be used to send messages to people thousands of miles away? All the way on the other side of the earth? And she had just given it to him like it was no big deal?
Those telecommunication lines had to be fixed soon. And he had to talk to his family properly.
