Don’t have any cool fanart for totk so here‘s a sprite edit instead! It was the next best thing I’ve got ^^ (and a transparent version)
The og sprite‘s from Etrian Odyssey 5. The wolf just gave too much wolf link vibes to not make this edit (and it’s also why the eye pattern‘s green here. It looks very fitting tho imo :3) Tried to keep the shading style as accurate as possible, though I‘m not sure how successful that attempt was .w.
The original and a low jpeg version of the sheikah slate are under the cut:

What if I told you I have never had an original idea ever
FLASH WARNING FOR SPEEDPAINT UNDER CUT SORRY
Speedpaint time !! Never uploaded a speedpaint. Ignore the canvas flipping, this is so so much less than I usually do.
Side note. Yes I changed Heart to be a jester, I'm very sorry, but his fucking lipstick was impossible to get right. Consider it a reference to my Jester!Heart drawing that one time.
I also added (or tried to) little straps on Soul's mask as a nod to a Soul design posted by the original artist of the cccc cover art. Reblogs appreciated

i adore your paintings so muchhh would you happen to have any other tips or tutorials for your process? anything from thumbnailing all the way to final render
Thank you 😭♥ I appreciate that a lot!! To start with I've got my advice tag (both new and veeery old stuff lol), & my youtube has a couple of speedpaints on it, one with commentary including process, brushes etc
In terms of general stuff about how I approach painting, I tend to tailor the method to the desired outcome. I talk about it more in depth on this post here, I also link to some references & tutorials that I really enjoy/recommend!
Besides that though, I guess I can do a little walkthrough of the Whisper & Tangle painting I uploaded a few months ago, since I tried something new with it that I pseudo integrated into my workflow & could be fun to talk about? 🤔
Tumblr media
SO yes, I do always thumbnail when I'm doing a bigger painting, and they're definitely not pretty LOL. I usually use the colour fill lasso just to block in basic shapes and values with a gradient map slapped on the top -- I ended up swapping the values around in the end because it let me use the fireflies as the sole light source, making it more character focused! Then it's the usual process of resketching it all & flatting in the base colours (I also added Whisper's wisps hehe), then adding shading:
Tumblr media
This is how I usually approach it, w/ all the shading layers clipped to the original flats to preserve editing. Multiply, screen & overlay are the most common layer modes I use while doing this, and if I'm ever struggling I'll sometimes add a gradient map too in order to unify awkward colours etc. The new thing I tried for this painting was doing what's often nicknamed as a 'clown pass' -- which is using hard edged shapes to create an easily-accessible selection mask for each part:
Tumblr media
It looks Super funny but I actually found it very helpful, and I ended up using it to select & cut out all of their body parts onto seperate layers, which were then alpha locked. It meant I could go ham w/ large or textured brushes, smudges etc without worrying about losing those edges, or accidentally over-rendering and screwing up the anatomy in the process!!
Tumblr media
I've kept doing something similar since, though it's a bit more dialed back; mainly using the lasso select to chop it up directly and preserve specific/necessary edges, grouping up similar body parts on a single layer etc.
After doing all that, I sat down and started rendering. The background was all blocked in & detailed with a hard round brush and these amazing brushes from Devin Elle Kurtz. There isn't anything super insightful that I think I could type on how I render, but I do have that speedpaint I mentioned earlier that'll probably shed more light. It's just a lot of eyedropping & painting, rinse and repeat
When rendering is done I usually add a concoction of adjustment layers, as well as an overlay w/ a noise texture on it. I also sharpen it all after doing so! These are the ones that I ended up adding for this painting:
Tumblr media
The dupe & blur is a fun thing that doesn't always work, but it looks super neat when the painting itself calls for it, especially when paired w/ that noise texture. It can make stuff look like an old/low quality photograph or recording -- here's another example w/ a shadow and amy doodle I posted a few months ago:
Tumblr media
That's about it for this painting, the majority of the time spent on it was honestly me rendering those damn leaves 🥲 Very tedious but worth it & it was a really good learning experience. I'm not sure if any of this will prove useful but thank you so much for sending in the ask, & if you (or anyone else reading this) wants a similar breakdown for a different painting of mine, please do let me know and I'll try my best to do one!! 🥺💞

Sharing my review on Sodor Fallout
Disclaimer: I'm not a reviewer, I've never tried reviewing any games, stories or TV shows before so buckle up and enjoy my cringe review. Please do not witch hunt harass the creator of the story.
It's been the past two in a half years since the Sodor Fallout fandom has died down (sort of). Yes, I may have drawn one piece of fanart of the AU (Donald's boiler explosion of course). If you want to see it, then it is here on my account, or you can go to my channel to watch my speedpaint. But I still have thoughts I want to share about the story. This will be one time I review this AU so starting off with the story.
I have no issue with chapters from March 5th to July 7th. It all started great. But there is something I want to speak about in chapter March 5, 1973: So according to the entry, the writer of the journal writes about Sir Topham Hatt signing an agreement about the nuclear power plant. But I want to be real here, specifically when the nuclear power plant was first built and when it was finished. In my personal opinion, Topham should have signed the agreement years ago, and then the construction started afterward. From my research, a nuclear power plant takes 5-7 years to build. Because it was built on a tiny island on Brendam, I don’t think a conventional reactor would ever be suited.
Again, I am skipping the whole thing to July 8th because I want to talk about Toby. Dear God, where do I begin? He is awful and ridiculously out of character. By the time I first read about him in SF, I was so confused about why he was like this? I get where the writer is coming from: making him completely scared, tearful, and worried for Henrietta. But it was way too horribly executed. When he told the story about the blast, why didn't he return back to Tidmouth with her? He knew where he put Henrietta and went to her towards the blast, but the fact that he wasn't in Tidmouth without her is ridiculous, which makes him a terrible partner or friend to Henrietta About fireface, why didn't anyone do anything to stop it or kill it when it was tormenting Toby and encouraging him to game over himself? Sidney, Charlie, Leonard, Topham. They're all cowards for not doing anything to stop. Where was Toby's crew at? Did they run away after he went off trying to find Henrietta? Nowhere to be seen. Toby's death is really pathetic and really pointless when Henrietta is confirmed to be okay when, in this chapter, it mentions that engines made of wood are not affected by radiation. Trucks who are made of wood are affected by the blast, except Toby and Henrietta don't make any sense. Again, Toby's death is very pathetic and pointless , and it was so much wasted potential from him.
Skipping to the end of the chapter where Topham interrogated the person who was one of P.T Boomer's guys, the guy mentioned that the nuclear explosion was a hoax this whole time and the real truth was that bombs were placed around the power plant which creates explosions with injections that will mutate engines with grey faces: This plot twist right here, killed the whole plot and the title of this story as well as killing the reader's hype about the future chapters. This is what I hate everything about thThe hoax reveal. The reader wants to read the whole thing about Fallout. It's not “Sodor Mysterious Chemical” or “Injection.” It's “Sodor Fallout” is what the reader was reading about.
Stuff I want to point out: This story has a lack of emotions except for Edward’s reaction to Trevor's death and Topham mourning for Toby. But Edward and Henry’s reaction to Percy's demise is bland. When they found him suffering, they were like, “oh… okay.” Even nobody didn't inform Thomas and Topham that Percy was long gone. You know, Thomas' closest friend. I love how Thomas and Edward didn't get any reaction to Toby K wording himself except Topham. All of that was over when Mavis and Daisy arrived at Tidmouth and they had no time to grieve for Toby so forget him! They have shit to focus on next!
When the war on Brendam Docks happened before the blast, how come Donald (before he died) and BoCo were completely okay when there were chemicals around the area. When James and Gordon ran into the chemicals in the wrong direction, they got mutated, but Donald and BoCo also didn't make any sense at all. Speaking of Donald, I wonder how he survived the crash on July 4, then went to Brendam Docks with his boiler dry completely fine before he died. When BoCo saw James completely derailed, how did he pull him on the tracks without a breakdown crane? Magic I guess lmao. It's so funny how Edward and the beast never encountered each other. The beast only appeared once only to kill Fredrick, who we don't even know who he is. His name is just mentioned, and he dies. Never to be seen. Cedric and Jem Cole were never mentioned as well. Gordon speeds past by and never to be seen and probably dies from the crash. From the beginning of the July 4th chapter, how did the sky turn red when the power plant exploded? I have no clue.
Pros: Cons I dislike about Sodor Fallout aside, there are some pros that I really like.
The concept of the power plant seems good on paper, but it could have more potential. I love how in Topham’s story, he finds Thomas mutated in his shed and was beside him. He even cleared out the trucks from the turntable by using a breakdown crane for Thomas to let through. And I love and absolutely love how Topham was lying in his cab just shows how much he cared about him. On April 10th, I loved how Thomas felt comforted by his driver, Edward, and his crew, which was a touching moment! I heard there was Douglas’ sacrifice from the old SF videos I watched on YouTube, and even though that wasn't canon, I actually loved that. He was grieving over the death of his twin, and then he wanted to use fuel tankers to put an end to the beast. Not only that, Douglas wants to be with Donald, which was really heartbreaking, and I loved it from someone whose favorite characters are the Scottish twins!
Well that was my review. I don't like it. The first 6 chapters start off good until Toby's appearance on July 8th and the interrogation scene. The hoax plot twist is extremely stupid, defeating the whole title and plot of the story. The good ones I only liked were Thomas’ wholesome moments and Douglas' non canon sacrifice.
I would recommend reading Play Don't Pause: Writer’s Pen Review if you want to read his full review on SF
If you want to see great Sodor AUs, I would recommend checking out Square Station Studios channel. And I would recommend the stories listed here.

Hello, just wanna start this off by saying that I love your art. I've decided to ask my favourite artists for art tips as I wanna get into it, but no matter what I do it never looks right. So, any tips?
HELLO TYSM!!! ngl i dont think im the best 4 this question im also kinda in a rut rn where im not really satisfied w my art n craving more progress and improvement but im getting there somewhat but very slowly! (ive been this way for a rly long time naow) this might be long but im gna try n throw in the things ik, sorry if my thoughts r messy im not the best in articulating stuff :')
i think a good way to start off is to find out what skill you lack the most or what you want to improve the most on, say for ex: u wna focus on getting better at composition for illustrations, then a good way to improve them is to learn about the composition rules (ex: rule of 3rds, etc), look for any scenes in films/animation or photographies and storybooks , study them and recreate it! go crazy !! ive done a study on a friend's picture before, and have asked my friends if i can use their photographies as practice!
looking for inspiration will also improve ur visual library, they can help u find what u wna put in ur art ! like perhaps certain color palettes or styles, it's best to look at different mediums of art instead of focusing only on one, sometimes u can find techniques meant 4 u! (ex: of this is my friend who used to be a watercolor artist, ive observed them using watercolor techniques when they were still new to digital art! basically mix n match whatever feels good/convenient 4 u :] )
disciplining urself is also good to have more improvement! i have trouble w this the most ever since bc its hard 2 focus if no one is like there to monitor u (in my experience), if u rly wna make progress u have to squeeze in some art practice time in ur schedule, it can be around 15-30 mins or even 3 hrs, completely up to you! (rmb to take breaks!). you can give urself deadlines if that will help n maybe timers too!
my prof always said "Proper practice makes perfect", so it's also best to practice with a clear goal in mind, take notes on the things u lack and if ur watching any art tutorials/speedpaints, take notes of those too! it's good to have something specific in mind so u wont get lost n u wud know what u wna do! it helps u retain info as well so u can look back on stuff, to avoid overwhelming urself u can just focus on small bits first, ex: in anatomy, u can focus on the head area first, break it down to drawing eyes and noses, etc! then u can move onto the torso area!
USE REFS!!!! make use of pinterest or any other refs u can find, cannot stress this enuf go crazyyy w references, make a moodboard full of referencess n go crazzyy w them!! i used to not like doing this bc i just head straight in to drawing bc thats what i was used to but art college trained me 2 use refs bc they help so very much, theyre like ur guideline for what u wna make so u have a clear goal in mind, also photobashing seems like a great practice too never tried it but yes it can help when ur planning an illustration/concept art!
^above also applies to art styles! go crazy n experiment w them!! i think its so very fun to explore diff art styles n not stick to 1, again this depends on u but having a different range of artworks is rly fun, u can go from very pastel soft colors n style, to smth very vibrant n sharp, to smth like dark n chalky-sketchy kind of vibe if im making sense T__T, basically go wild!! go crazy!! dont let urself sit in 1 box! hop into other boxes !! or wear all of them!! or poke holes in the box n add stuff to the box or wear a circle!! trust me it looks so fun if u put different artworks uve made side by side n go wow i did that!!
also create small thumbnails 4 illustration! its really best to plan ahead art too, as i said i used to just head straight in n not plan but ive learned to absolutely enjoy planning making art! collecting refs n seeing what kind of composition goes n what colors wud work is so very fun actually! it rly helps a lot
theres also this one post i lost the link, but basically it shows how much progress u can make if u make loose sketches vs full on rendered illustrations vs a mix of both, again this depends entirely on u bc things r different for everyone! i think that post is really good for teaching abt art progress (if any1 knows where it is pls do link!), i think focusing on sketches n practice is better tho bc it helps u draw more freely n loosely! i think that speeds up ur process more as well n doesnt make u lose interest immediately compared 2 focusing on finishing 1 big rendered illust (talking from experience) but then again its different for every1 so honestly just experiment n see what feels right for u!
i wna say tho that although it is good to make sure ur drawing looks right its also good to just let yourself draw freely, i think what matters is that u understood the structures of something and as long as ur able to apply that in ur own way i think thats gud! i think drawing freely helps u draw more fluidly? like having more expression is what i mean. ive gotten into the "i have 2 make this look right" hole before n i noticed it made my art look stiff, so highlyy recommend doing gesture drawing n life studies! rmb to have fun when practicing n learning,
dont pressure urself too much! enjoy the experience :] ! messy sketches r good!! not everything has to look good or perfect! my sketchbooks from way back were just doodles, pencil sketches no color mostly, theres an occasional lined one w markers , ballpen, n some highlighters, n my drawings were either smth funny that happened w me n frens with our personas or making ocs for my faves or ocs for me in general!
ur sketchbook doesnt have to look pretty its like ur diary but its art ykno! ur thoughts in visual form for the day! (again all up to u as long as u have fun! its all different 4 everyone!)
anw tysm again!! sorry if this was all over the place HAHSAW i tried my best but these r the tips i keep in mind most of the time or the ones i hold closest to me n that i try to apply as much as i cud! if u need anything else clarified just lmk! not the best w words but hopefully it helps :'')! most of the stuff i mentioned here i also need to take into practice HAHWHAW so mb its gud 4 me to write this down so i can finally push myself to do stuff,

Do you ever post speedpaints to youtube? Using CSP’s timelapse feature, I bet your art would do well on YouTube shorts.
Oh yes! I actually have tried the timelapse feature every now and then in CSP, but I never thought my art timelapse would be attractive enough for Youtube Shorts or Tiktoks.
This really got me thinking though, so thank you very much! I'll think about how to go on about it. Funny enough you mentioned it since I've been thinking about how to go on about making art Tiktoks the past weeks or so. haha
Here's a sample of a timelapse of one of my latest art, I'll let everyone know when I finally gather enough courage to upload!

Hello, yes, Hi, hummm
Have you, as an artist, ever been scared of ruining a sketch with your line art?
Because at the moment, I have this fear...
Help? Pleasy?
An anonymous artist. (;U;)
yeah sometimes its scary but i started enjoying lineart lately after getting some good pens
now, if you're doing digital art i suggest:
you just use the sketch and clean it up a bit and use it as lineart instead of making lineart
or just make the sketch layer opacity very very low so that you really use it just as guides because i noticed your brain tries to make the lineart so that matches the sketch and it creates the final image with the combination of the sketch layer and lineart layer and so it looks awful without the sketch layer underneath...
or- you could do a messier, more loose sketch so that you can go into details with the lineart,
or you can do more stages of sketches so that you have a more precise guide to know better what you want from the lineart
when it comes to traditional art, i think that you can practice by
using pens to do your sketching and get used to making mistakes. maybe you can first start with lighter colours and then build up your art with darker colours. if you know you can't erase the mistakes you learn how to draw the correct line and learn how to draw the shapes in just one stroke.
another solution is that you use a light pad/light table or just put the paper on window, really and tape it together and draw the lineart on a separate paper
now these methods work for me, it might not be for other people so i suggest watching other people's speedpaints a lot and learn techniques, copy them and try yourself and find your own favourite method.

do you have any progress pics or tutorials on how you draw? i've never tried working with paint and the lack of layers and pen pressure seems so freeing yet daunting at the same time....
yes actually I did do a speedpaint here! other than that my "progress pics" are basically this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AKA massive messes. basically I use the canvas space to keep different progress points in case I screw something up later. I mainly use the eraser tool and SOMETIMES the pencil tool.

Balsam Fir, Black-Eyed Susan, Candytufts, Carnation, Coneflower, False Goat’s Beard, Glory-of-the-snow, Lupine and Primrose!
Balsam Fir: Have you ever been in love?
Yes I have. I use to be a bit of a hopeless romantic, but in recent years I tried to shake that off. I’m in love again now though, and it’s wonderful💕✨
Black-Eyed Susan: If you could be any animal for a day, what would it be?
Cat. Gimme scritches
Candytufts: When do you feel most loved?
In someone’s arms. Held close. When someone wants me close.
Carnation: What are you currently wearing?
A floral pajama set. If I’m not going anywhere I stay in pjs. I need to change tho, these shorts border on booty shorts and I’m cold
Coneflower: Dream job?
Self-employed. I write and draw whatever I want. I’m publishing books and making money off my drawings through prints and speedpaints. I work with other artists on cool projects too.
False Goat’s Beard: What is something you are good at?
Mmmmmm idk. I suppose I’m p good at critical analysis :3
Glory-of-the-Snow: What are ten things that make you happy/you’re grateful to have in your life?
Uuuuuuuuuuhhhhhh man I’m bad at doing listsfndndndn I genuinely have a hard time thinking of many things
1) you 2) game night friends 3) server buddies 4) French toast sticks 5) my little brother 6) sitting in the park reading 7) tumblr + fandom 8) the internet in general ig 9) chocolate 10) good media to consume
Lupine: What does your name mean? Why is that your name?
My name is my birth name, it’s the one my mother gave me. It means warrior or fighter in Celtic. I’ve kept it despite coming out as nonbinary because I do like the idea of having a strong name like that. I’d love to fight for a good cause and help people yknow? It’s also fairly gender-neutral. There are different spellings but it’s all pronounced the same.
Primrose: Describe your ideal life.
I wake up at a decent hour, eight or nine, in bed with my beloved. I cuddle and kiss my beloved and then get up for my day. I eat a good breakfast and I’m not worried about having enough food/money/whatever. I live in a house I (at least partially) designed. And I know what I’m doing for the day. I get to write and draw and be apart of cool projects that people enjoy and talk about. I get to talk to people daily, friends and coworkers in cool things. I always have something to work on but I also get to be lazy and do nothing if I want. I hang out with friends at game nights, visiting others far away. People like and respect the work I do. I kiss my beloved. I feel loved. I don’t have to stress.

Yae Miko!
Made with @huiontablet! ↓
@huiontablet sent me their HUION Kamvas 13 to review! I drew this Yae Miko with it and I really enjoyed it! Here are my thoughts and experiences...
Overview -: ✧ :-゜・.
Tumblr media
The Kamvas 13 is a pen display tablet. What appealed to me most about the tablet was its portability. Not only is it lightweight, weighing just under a kilogram, it is small enough to fit in any regular bag! What's more, you don't need to bring a huge cable or even a charger for your computer - all you need is the 3 in 1 cable, your laptop and the Kamvas 13! As a student who has to move from place to place frequently, bringing my art with me wouldn't be a spatial or heavy ordeal, compared to some display tablets.
The tablet came with the 3 in 1 cable and an extender, an adjustable tablet stand, the pen and the pen stand (there are spare pen nibs inside!) and gloves! I got the Violet Purple tablet, and I'm glad I did because black is boring/j
My experience -: ✧ :-゜・.
Mini disclaimer: I've never used a drawing tablet before, and I also don't use a computer frequently I am a tech dino
I had to get an adapter for my tablet as it didn't have a hdmi cable, and I was a bit disappointed that the mobile compatabilities were quite limited!
Tumblr media
I was worried that I wouldn't get used to drawing on a display, but it turned out to be quite easy! Once I calibrated my shortcuts, everything went smoothly. Using the shortcuts definitely makes everything easier, and it's pretty comfy! The tablet and it's calibration functions are certainly beginner-friendly
Heres a quick speedpaint of me drawing...
(Yes, I do not hold a pen correctly. No, I've never tried to fix it. Yes, it's because I am double jointed in the worst of places.)
I had several gripes and hiccups along the way, but honestly it was just me trying to wrestle with Medibang and crying over the lack of a windows version of ibisPaint X.
Overall, this has been a very exciting new experience - learning to use a display tablet as well as using computer art software... Also the staff were so nice I'm going to cry, so I'd like to thank @ huiontablette (Huion France) for reaching out to me and doing the most for me ily ily ily

The first SpeedPaint on the channel
Yes, I was away for a long time on YouTube, but now I'm trying to somehow get back on it, because school has started. And in the summer I was terribly lazy, although I tried to do something.
Well, enjoy, and I went to create a video about GlitchTechs. I hope I can finish it at least by the end of November :')
/the quality of the video went with Wheatley into space. I don’t know what affected it, but I will try to fix it/
