I see people bringing up Nishiki slapping Reina so fucking often and I'm so fucking tired of it.
Let's get this out of the way first: was it good of Nishiki to hit Reina? Should he have done it? OF FUCKING COURSE NOT. While violence is the answer to a not negligible amount of problems, here, it WASN'T.
HOWEVER.
People tend to act as though Reina was a poor uwu victim who didn't do anything wrong. So lemme explain the situation here:
1) Nishiki just saw someone he cares about A LOT get sexually assaulted or even raped.
2) Nishiki just brutally killed his boss because of an emotional / trauma reaction to witnessing said assault and was very shaken up by it, having collapsed to his knees when Kiryu arrives.
3) His brother just took the fall for it and will have to go to prison for a very long time.
4) Sawamura disappears from the hospital, leaving Nishiki with most of his support network gone in the blink of a fucking eye.
5) He goes to update Reina on the situation and she starts screaming at him, accusing him of being weak and useless, of failing her by not being able to protect Sawamura and Kiryu.
Great fucking reaction on her part, isn't it? He's just lost two of his siblings at once and she is telling him that it's his fault. Yes, Reina probably didn't mean it like that, but she still says it. And when Nishiki interrogates her on it, she doesn't retract it.
It's not helping that Nishiki's mental stability is already shot to shit because of various pressures, such as an important surgery for Yuko coming up, Kazama's clear favouritism, Kashiwagi's distance.
I reiterate: NISHIKI GETTING VIOLENT WAS BAD. HE SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT.
And he apparently does slap her quite hard. But he also immediately regrets it, looking at his hand with shock. As someone who not only has a lot more physical strength than Reina and is in organised crime and is thus the stronger party in the power imbalance, it was his responsibility to try and counteract the power imbalance by restraining himself. And he failed at that.
My point is that Reina said what I consider to be unforgivable things, even if she didn't mean them. And she knows this because when Nishiki confronts her, she is scared. She knows she fucked up. Yet she doesn't try to retract her accusations or to reformulate what she feels.
They're both horrible in this interaction and this is why I don't like them as a pairing. Reina clearly is way over her head in the Yakuza world. Which is perfectly fine, not everyone can deal with it, in fact I'd wager that most people can't, yet she both involves herself in it and is involved in it by others. And then she deals with being exposed to the dark sides of the yakuza world by toxically unleashing it, here on Nishiki.
Another thing I don't like is the "he hit a woman because she hurt his feelings he isn't an uwu baby". Oh, so it would have been fine if Reina had been a man? No it wouldn't have. Why bring gender into this? Either say that no one deserves to be hurt or say that everyone deserves to get slapped every once in a while.
Let all genders be slapped and let all genders slap. All or nothing, cmon.

Thinking about the one line Daigo has in RGGO about how he's studying because he's considering getting a degree in business management. So happy to know he seems to have gotten his highschool diploma after all

You know, I’m a little worried that rgg is just planning on writing Yagami out of the next game
Mild spoilers under the cut
Given how popular the series was in Japan (due in no small part to who exactly portrayed Yagami), I don’t see them just hanging the series up in the event that Kimura Takuya’s agency refuses to come to the table. He was the initial draw, of course, but the series earned its own fan base in the west by having arguably the best writing and gameplay out of any Yakuza/RGG game to date. As much as I hate saying this, Kimura is not needed for another installment to be a success, especially given how viciously some folks seem to hate Yagami just in general, and Kimura’s agency is not giving rgg any reasons to believe that he’s not expendable
But from a canon point of view, LJ being set in Ijincho with Sugiura and Tsukumo’s shiny new detective agency is scary, actually, if you think about the implications, and the Kaito Files kinda confirmed it for me too. Sugiura, one of the main characters of both games, is now in Yokohama. Higashi, another main character in both games, opened another branch of Charles in Ijincho, as well (per the Kaito Files). The crew at Genda Law Office and Mafuyu’s roles in LJ were negligible, aside from Saori (who is technically a player character, and so a main character, and who stated in LJ that she felt like she was being underestimated by both her client and her coworkers)
Kaito, yet another main character, has a brand new family, and there is no way Mikiko actually agreed to move into Kaito’s shitty Kamurocho apartment with all her money and whatever money she got from her dirtbag husband’s estate. That leaves an opening for Kaito to just move to Yokohama with his family. And Yokohama 99 only has one field detective and a pretty high profile win under their belt, so honestly I don’t think it’s all that much of a stretch to see Kaito start working there instead because they need the manpower, and Kamurocho is now too far away to reasonably commute. It’s also pretty reasonable to assume that Jun already goes to school in Yokohama (hell he and Mikiko probably live there) because of his father’s connections with the city (that reunion being held at the Blu Marino every year). I don’t think it was ever explicitly stated that Sadamoto was based in Yokohama, but the implication is there
Not to mention, if the series moved to Ijincho full time, Yagami has stated that he likes working and living in Kamurocho, and his only remaining father figure is still there. I don’t see him leaving, even for Kaito
Idk it’s kinda scary honestly, because Yagami is far and away my favorite character (for more than just his looks I promise), and I love the other characters with all my heart, but I do not want to see Yagami just left behind in Kamurocho while the gang up and moves to Ijincho. And with the whole Saori being engaged to Hoshino angle, I could totally see that souring and Saori bailing to Yokohama as well, especially since she’s expressed quite a bit of discontent at being overlooked and underestimated already. If her relationship with Hoshino goes belly up, I could see her stepping back from Genda’s office entirely and moving to get a fresh start

Share your fairytale AUs with the class bestie
(CRACKS KNUCKLES) alright where the hell do i even start with this
the main one i've been pretty fixated on lately is my little shop of horrors/little mermaid au with seymour and audrey. (did i make this au because howard ashman/alan menken wrote the songs for both little shop and disney's little mermaid? perhaps)
honestly i think you could put either seymour or audrey in the "mermaid" role but personally i prefer seymour as the mermaid in my au bc the plotline about sacrificing parts of yourself to a malevolent entity (sea witch or man-eating plant) in exchange for your dream life/getting to be with the person you love is a common thread in both stories (and in the original fairytale of the little mermaid AND the director's cut/stage musical ending of little shop, this deal winds up going wrong and leaves the protagonist dead by the end of the story). plus, seymour technically "rescued" audrey from orin by killing him, just like how the mermaid saves the prince.
now let's seeeeeee. i also have a majimako cinderella au that i'm pretty attached to. i read a post once about majima's plotline in yakuza 0 being almost a direct parallel to cinderella and it changed my brain chemistry honestly. it's also what birthed this au. plus he literally sings a song called 24 hour cinderella duh. so along with majima as cinderella (person forced to work for someone else who suddenly gets a chance to escape servitude) and makoto as the prince (who loses track of the person they formed a deep connection with...although makoto actually ends up finding him again in this story!!) there's also sagawa as the stepmother (but there are no stepsisters in this version bc i couldnt think of any), nishitani as the fairy godmother (because i got that idea and it was hilarious to me so it stuck) and yuki and the rest of the club sunshine crew as majima's mice friends.
uhhhhh beauty and the beast is one of my favorite fairy tales so ive made like a bajillion of those aus for various fandoms ive been in over the years. i have a majimako batb au that i like but haven't done a lot with (although im thinking to set it in the modern day rather than a more traditional fairy tale setting). i also wrote a sort of beauty and the beast-esque thing with seymour and audrey a few years ago but i reread it recently and it was cringe to me so if that idea ever comes back around it'll probably need more than a few plot tweaks.
i'd kill to have a little mermaid au with nishiki as the mermaid btw (bc helloooooooo koi imagery....pretty merman nishiki with a pretty koi tail <3) but i have no idea who his prince could be. maybe kiryu? maybe he doesn't even go up to the human world for romance at all maybe he just wants to prove a point or something idk.
anywayssss im sure i have more but i cant think of em right now and this mostly turned into rambling about half-baked ideas anyways lmao

Me, frantically rolladexing through blorbos trying to find one that I don't have to explain: uh...

Uhhhh...

UMMMMM... (;^ω^)

[ID: The first image portrays a screenshot of Kazuma Kiryu from the video game Yakuza 0 from the shoulders up, angrily glaring at a character who is off screen. The dialogue caption below his face reads: "Kiryu: You can't judge someone just because they don't confirm to society's standards of sexual normalcy!"
The second image is a panel from the manga Chainsaw Man depicting the character Power, seen from above, standing over her kill in a wide, unhinged victory pose while covered in blood. She is shouting to the sky maniacally, one eye wide and the other covered by her hair. Her speech bubbles read, respectively from right to left, "I DID IT! THE GLORY IS MINE!!" and "GA HA HA HA HA!!" in bold, rough text.
The third image is the standard character portrait for the character Misha from the erotic visual novel Hardcoded.

Y6, Haruka, and “Flawed” People
I am still whittling away at my draft that goes a bit more in-depth about it, but I really like Yakuza 6. I think it’s great. I think it sucks. I think it’s the best and worst Yakuza game.
Today I saw a post about Haruka and how the series treats her, specifically levying some major gripes with her treatment in Yakuza 6. I’d like to talk about her presence in the game a bit, and why her (lack of) presence in 6 speaks to me.
This is a series that is bad at handling women. If I sit here talking about series-wide misogyny, even if I focus on Haruka, I will be here all week. But in spite of being shoved into the background, I think that Y6 is actually Haruka at her most developed and most well-rounded, especially coming off of the events of Yakuza 5.
This isn’t formal, I’m just rambling again.
In the beginning scenes of Yakuza 6, Haruka keeps her problems to herself. She bears the burden of being yet again thrust into a position of parental figure responsibility with none of the support or experience. She assumes, foolishly, that she can handle things on her own, and she does not allow anyone else to share in her burdens. She runs away from those she loves after their safety is potentially jeopardised when her past catches up with her.
Haruka’s disappearance is a parallel to Kiryu’s situation throughout Yakuza 5, and this is something that persists throughout the game. The more we find out about her actions prior to her coma, the more we know that she is her father’s daughter. She flees to somewhere distant. She tries to make it alone. She doesn’t open up about her past. Her companions’ knowledge of her past is only incidental, and again solely due to it catching up with her.
None of her actions in this game are out of line or out of character for Haruka. Specifically, none of the actions Haruka makes in this game are out of character for a character who we know, blood or not, is Kiryu’s daughter.
A lot of people get very incensed thinking about Haruka’s pregnancy. This includes anything from
Haruka being an adult
the pregnancy’s existence
the baby’s father
that this doesn’t make sense culturally, somehow
Haruka’s perceived previous responsibility and the perceived lack thereof because she has gotten pregnant
a general lack of understanding of young mothers & unplanned pregnancy
the idea that this would “only happen for the plot”
Discussing these in no real order:
Haruka entering a relationship, being an adult with her own responsibilities is not the end of the world, and having a child is not the end of her world. The series shoving her off screen even when the game centres mostly around her circumstances is.
To suggest that something like getting pregnant is out of character for a runaway teenager, regardless of her background, suggests ignorance about young women, about pregnancy, and the stark difference between responsibility for others and responsibility for oneself. Young mothers are stigmatized, judged and disrespected worldwide, facing complex forms of misogyny and wider societal discrimination, and the way some fans discuss Haruka’s situation only emphasizes this. The way some people talk about the series’ female characters in general (thinking of Park here) really shows their ass, and it’s not like the series treats them any better!
Culturally, Haruka’s existence is ripe for predatory tabloid journalism that those in Onomichi protect her from. This is something that Mirei instils in her in Yakuza 5, specifically in the context of being an idol: her past is told as a cautionary tale, the fall from grace that getting involved with yakuza and a young pregnancy can set off. Haruka does not get pregnant within the context of the idol industry, sparing her from the wider public eye. But Haruka’s decisions also come in the context of having been in the industry, of having to reign in her own expression to be someone that is looked to and looked up to, and having ended her place in it with an emotional send-off.
This is a series that beats you over the head with themes of failure and “mistakes” repeating across generations. There are so many angles it can be approached from. Are you inevitably doomed to repeat the actions of those before you? Are you deciding the fates of those that come after you? Do you make your own fate? Yuta’s entire character arc embodies this. Y6, as flawed as it was, emphasized this theme more than any of the others.
Everything that is put in this game is put in for the sake of the plot. Not every action exists for the sake of furthering said plot, but the main story exists to tell a narrative.
Haruka has been portrayed as responsible (overly so, in Y1) with few faults (thinking of the Y3 substory here) since her debut in the first game. I think that Y5 - and Y6, even with how little screen time she is allowed - are the peak of her being in-character, because she is allowed do things that can be considered mistakes. Her on-screen childhood is mostly spent being put into the role of an eldest daughter, and her position as an idol only compounds on her perceived responsibilities. It feels refreshing to see her allowed to be someone whole, imperfect, doing the best that she can in her circumstances and with what knowledge she has.
Again, if I were to sit here and talk about the series’ complex history of misogyny and poor characterisation of its female characters, I would be here all week. All of the information we have on Haruka’s own experiences is told either in flashbacks or by other people, because for a game that ultimately centres around her & her child so heavily, she appears on screen for a good five or so minutes. The series isn’t good with women. I think we all know that.
I have a lot of gripes with Y6. It’s a flawed game. It’s a good game. It’s made me feel more conflicted than any other Yakuza game, which is why it’s one of my favourites. And while I’ll stay here wishing endlessly that I got more of her on screen, speaking, talking, telling her own story, I think that the Haruka we got in Yakuza 6 is the Haruka that’s been built up to in six amazing games. There’s no doubt that she is Kiryu’s daughter.
What a fucked up last line to tell your daughter at the end though, Kiryu can fuck off.
Let me know what you guys think!

A TRAP || @zankokukami
it was as if his whole life was falling apart as he got the mysterious phone call, on the other end, he heard orihime's panicked voice, she stated that some men that claimed to be part of the shibata family had captured, & were holding her hostage. those fuckers ... the family that took so much from him, & yet, they still wanted to fuck around with him despite how powerful he had became in the yakuza. sure, he was still under shimano, but he had started his own family within his recently.
majima had to get on the move. now. this was the family that was responsible for taking his left eye, he would not allow orihime to be subjected to the same fate ... for them to ruin her beautiful face ...
jumping into a car, not even waiting for one of his men to assist driving him there, foot was on the pedal, & engine was started, he started to drive to the location he suspected her to be kept at, the place he was held hostage himself all those years ago. majima was seeing red as he drove there, & parked the car off quickly ... blocking the road with how he did so.
he walked at a very fast pace, towards the door which he kicked open, alerting the men inside, armed with weaponry, it would seem majima was at a clear disadvantage having came empty handed, but he didn't need weapons, he would tear these men apart with his bare hands. turn their weapons against them even. one came at him with a sword which he managed to dodge but catch between his teeth, punching the man making him release his grip upon the weapon as he flipped around, & punched the hilt of the sword out of his mouth as he released it from his teeth, managing to get the man by the center of his chest.
the other was now quivering in fear, but majima didn't care, he walked toward him silently as the other bled out, this one had a handgun, but he was too terrified to even point it at majima. his hand holding the gun upon the ground, majima took advantage of that, & stood upon the man's hand with the intention to hear all his bones cracking, & then gave him a rough kick to the head ... with his steel toe caps of his boots, it was definitely fatal.
done with the guards, majima walked on into the rest of the warehouse, & found one other man with orihime tied up in chains ... if he was not seeing enough red, he was now as this was the exact same fucker that took his left eye.
Tumblr media
❝ get away from her, you sick fuck ! ❞
dropping the accent that he usually put on, when situations got serious, the put-on accent was dropped.
oooh, majima-san, it's been some time has it not ? how about i give your girl a matching eye patch ? she'll look quite nice in one along with you, won't she ?
the knife in the other's hand did not go unnoticed as he made his threat, majima was however on him without a moment's notice, he was basically straddling the other as he started to punch the hell out of him, the man's face was becoming nothing more than mush, as the blood splashed upon majima's face as he let out multiple obscenities. he did eventually tire out, the man below him was long dead as he took a breather from his violent outburst.
turning his head, he looked upwards to orihime who was barely conscious ... she had saw him, at his worst. he wouldn't be surprised if she didn't ever want to see him again, she just watched him punch a man to his death with his bare hands. standing up, he found a bolt cutter sitting near by to cut orihime free of the thick chains that held her, multiple bruises were upon her usually soft clear skin ; there was even some blood. he held her as he gently sat down upon his knees, allowing her to rest her legs from having been forced to stand up for so long in the one position.
❝ orihime ... ❞
he took the hold of her hand.

❝ ... i swear, i'm gonna make shibata n' his men pay fer this ! they'll learn what happens when they decide to mess with me ! ❞

★ What fandom do you consider welcoming?
hella sweet munday // accepting ! // @seeasunset

i've had a nice time in the yakuza one so far, i thought i'll had hardly no interactions with majima, but the fandom seems bigger than it is considering how many i had interact with me that have some kind of yakuza verse to go with. fact i'm kind of dragging tasha ( @chosenbythecrystal ) into it as well, she hasn't played the games yet so she's hearing everything of majima from me, i nearly expect she'll pick up a muse from it when she gets into playing the games ( they're on game pass/ps plus guys ... get playing them >> ).
but even before i joined this one, a raid group i was in on ffxiv also talked about how good 0 was to me, & pressured me to play it, & one of my friends from that was like "i bet you'll like majima, better stream it when you reach his chapters". first off though, 0 was not my first time playing yakuza, i played the og on ps2 years ago, & tried to play 3 back on ps3, but since i couldn't find a copy of yakuza 2, i couldn't get into 3 back then, felt like i was missing valuable information. xd but yea, when i started into the yakuza series & got all excited about it among ffxiv friends, the lot of us just waffled on about it, until the point we got reminded that we were in a ffxiv server. xd

my friend following this blog but also being in the process of playing all the yakuza games and being on 2 is so funny cause i technically have to tag even some of the most innocuous stuff as spoilers so every so often she’s scrolling tumblr she sees like five ‘spoilers’ posts in a row thinking it’s some deep-discussion shit but then it’s probably actually just me talking about daigo’s gradual babygirl status or something

Wouldnt it be so epic to have Tanimura play a role in Judgement 3??
Like he's Kaito's age, he used to be (is?) a police detective, he has a strong sense of justice AND mysterious circumstances (where tf did he go after Y4).
Just Tanimura is so babygirl and I want him back </3
I feel like he might mesh well with the Judge Eyes gang considering his sense of justice and willingness to participate in less than legal activities so ye
Theres also a good thematic to explore about the power and dangerous misuse of power in the context of the police force and whether the system can be fixed

What is it with the Warhammer and Yakuza fan bases being packed to the brim with people who don't actually engage with the media in any meaningful way?????
