Me: The goal of a good book is to use interesting events to fully lay bare the depths of the souls of people who represent the weirdest little fuckers the world has to offer.

Just noticed that in Astarion's little corner in Elfsong Tavern, he has a mirror on the wall (behind the training dumby beside his bed), and no one else has one in their little nook, just him. The one person who can't use it.

currently reading Camp Sylvania by Julie Murphy and it’s making me realize i need to take more chances on middle grade books because i’m loving it so much. i’m only like 80 pages in but i’m enjoying it just as much as any other book. it really is just as complex and well written as a lot of the ya and adult books i read, it’s just written in a way that younger kids can also understand.

Why is that YA can get away with so much in comparison to Adult fiction?? Like, aside from "no graphic sex" (tho there's been some pretty spicy scenes in some I read during my youth), the only hard line that cannot be crossed is "protag can't be older than 18" (tho New Adult pushes that to 20/22, I believe). You can have the most fucked of body horror, the most gruesome deaths, and gratuitous amount of gore and it's all good for an age-range of 13 to 18. Some of these "extreme Adult horror" books wish they can be on this level.

YA and not MG as i originally thought.#knocking on Scott's door like 'dude lemme write one i can do it i can write YA horror i promise to keep the homoeroticism at bay'#'unless.'#i can't even be like 'bad stuff only happens to the adults' because it DOESN'T.#it was really funny being an elementary after-school teacher during the 'golden era of fnaf' because it was a constant whiplash #of kids fighting over who the best animatronic was while parents continuously lost their minds that their kids wouldn't shut up about it.#there were two camps: fnaf and bendy #but i also worked at the most BORING center because fun was not allowed but i would let them check out the books at the library #much to my co-teacher's dismay.#'you're gonna get us in trouble' THE KIDS ARE /READING/. whatever it fucking takes buddy.#foxy was very popular btw #people on the clock app: omg this is so nostalgic i remember being 12 when i first played the games #me having been a teacher at the time: haha yeah.... my joints are killing me
