#y’all really jumped on the opportunity to tear Mackie apart huh
Text
Hey fellow Stucky shippers,
I’ve been in the Stucky tag for five minutes and I’ve seen Anthony Mackie be called so many insulting things over his recent interview where he openly expressed his concerns with toxic masculinity and how he wants to be able to show vulnerable close friendships between two men on screen.
Stop. He had completely valid points. He was not ‘dumb as fuck’ or ‘homophobic’ or anything else I’ve seen him be called in just the last five minutes. Poor wording isn’t an excuse to rip him apart. Just because he doesn’t enthusiastically agree with your ship, doesn’t mean you get to rip him to shreds. I ship Stucky. I support whoever ships SamBucky. I support all queer marvel ships! But he’s also right. Two men should be able to be close and vulnerable on screen together without being labeled queer for it.
I know, as a queer person, that we’re practically starved for representation (especially with Marvel continuously queer baiting), but he’s right. Let men be vulnerable and close. He isn’t trying to stop anyone from shipping Stucky, SamBucky, or any other queer ship. He’s pointing out a very real problem. Even if he did ship SamBucky or anything else, Marvel Studios wouldn’t care. They won’t make ships canon ‘because the actors like it/agree with it.’ If they did, Stucky and many other ships would have been canon already.
Stop looking for the first excuse to rip him apart and actually listen to what he’s saying. We’ve all made poorly worded points that were good, just...poorly worded. The same goes for him. He’s a person. Just like all of us are.
