Unavailable leans against the wall of the Pen Island bank. The crumbling quartz digs into his back, but he chooses not to mind it. He goes to run a hand through his hair, but stops; even now, years after... After everything, he still forgets this new body of his.
Most of the time, he enjoys his semi-corporeal form, this swirling, pastel, ectoplasmic mist. It's much easier to fight when you have no organs. It's easier to run away when you can seep into the ground. It was easier to infiltrate Shitty's base like this, and the room where it all went down, the dark blackstone splattered with Shitty's blood, the electric chair--
With trembling hands, disembodied from the rest of him, Unavailable lights a cigarette. Gaymer would bitch at him for it if they were here, Unavailable knows, but, well. Gaymer's not in a state to be telling anyone anything. Unavailable has the creeping suspicion that he'll never hear Gaymer's voice again.
So. This new body. It's nice. Yet, for all the advantages in a fight it grants him, Unavailable can't help but miss the feeling of sun on his skin, the mystery bruises on his shins, the volleyball calluses. He swallows with a pang in his chest where his heart used to be. He misses the way Shitty would tug on his hair, and pretend it wasn't him even though no one else was around. Unavailable wanted so badly to be the perfect weapon, and only now that he's succeeded does he realize what he threw away.
"You know Gaymer would be pissed if they could see you smoking," says a familiar smooth voice Unavailable knows too well.
He turns his head tiredly, extinguishing his cigarette on the bank's wall despite the fact that he just lit the damn thing. Internally, he winces at the black mark left on the crumbling bank, but reminds himself that it's not as if Milfboss will care. She hasn't been to the bank she built since Chonk bombed it.
"What do you want, Lunar Princess?" Unavailable bites out. "I thought I told you I'd kill you if you ever showed your ugly face in the SMP again. You're banished, remember?"
"And I thought I told you to just call me Lunar," she says softly, "but it seems neither of us are getting what we want."
Something ugly rears its head inside Unavailable. He scowls, kicking off of the wall he'd been leaning against.
"You will always be a princess, got that?" he snarls, stalking closer to her. "The stupid fucking spoiled princess that got me killed because she wouldn't listen to me. But no, I'm just a soldier, a tool, a weapon."
Lunar flinches back at the vitriol in her former servant's voice, fingers reaching for a braid which no longer exists-- not since her purple hair was shorn with her beheading. "...I thought you wanted to be a weapon."
"Because it's all I've ever known!" Unavailable howls, fuelled by the rage of his situation and the memories that haunt him and the curse which flows through his veins. He breathes heavily.
Lunar sniffs, wiping a tear from her eye before it can fall. "You're so... high energy," she says disdainfully.
"And you're a fuckin' bitch," Unavailable says. He crosses his arms over his chest at her gasp, and walks closer to her, heedless of the rocky terrain. "Now scram. You've got two lives left, don't make me make it one."
Lunar keeps her head held high, just like the day she was beheaded for her tyranny. She meets the place Unavailable's eyes used to be with her own gaze. With a tremor in her voice, she says, "You wouldn't."
Unavailable just stands there and says nothing. His arms remain crossed. Lunar feels herself grow woozy, feels a thick dripping liquid on her stomach. She looks down. Vibrant indigo blood is gushing like a fountain from the wound in her gut. Staggering forward, desperate for support, Lunar reaches out to Unavailable. He steps back, cruelly watching as she falls to the ground in a puddle of her own blood.
"I wouldn't, huh?" he finally says. "I already have."
Lunar sobs tears of pain and fear and regret. "I'm afraid to die," she whispers.
Unavailable, once Lunar's knight in shining armor, spits on her as she lay dying at his feet.
"You should be."
Lunar disappears into dust, respawning. Only a puddle of indigo remains as evidence to her presence. Unavailable sits down heavily, placing his head in his hands.
"I don't regret it," he tells himself. He doesn't regret it.
Why does he feel so awful?
