all i want for xmas is for more rpg games after this year to not be afraid of being relatively linear experiences. please let the open world game boom die so people can stop trying to capitalize on it bc It's The Popular Thing To Do. being linear is not a bad thing, i promise, your video game story is not being limited bc the game is linear. that's what we call a writing skill issue.

games being bigger in terms of sheer space does not make it better and is just resulting in so many more games releasing half-baked bc there is no realistic amount of resources that can go into those games in such shorts amount of time to make them release relatively issue free. even one of the poster children of the boom (botw->totk) had to be worked on for longer than anticipated to account for how much shit went into the game

please. i am a linear game enjoyer and i have been starving for Years for something story-driven that can keep my attention bc the things it wants me to do are clearly laid out and not inherently wishy-washy with how you go about playing it. it is absurdly fucking sad when the only thing that can keep my interest is a fuckin mmo, man

also pay game developers more and let game development cycles be longer. fuck the stupid-ass investors who don't know shit about the gaming climate and fuck merchandise-dependent scheduling

Last song: Unholy by Miley Cyrus. Been on a huge Miley kick lately, listening to a bunch of her newer stuff I hadn't kept up with.

Last Movie/Show: We're currently watching 'Falling Skies' -- a post-apocalyptic alien invasion sci-fi show from the 2010s. It's got Noah Wylie and Moon Bloodgood in it, and I'm very very bisexual. Also watched 'The Addams Family' (1991) this week because it's a forever comfort movie.

Favorite Color: Purple! Also hot pink.

Savory, sweet, or spicy: I have an insatiable sweet tooth, I choose the sweet option for every meal. That being said, I LOVE spicy foods too.

Last thing I searched: Well, I don't have saved search on so this is from memory, but I think it was a TOTK walk-through because I got stuck on a shrine quest the other night.

Current Obsession: Zelda is taking up most of my free-time lately. I've been chipping away at it slowly since I began playing TOTK in Jan. I think I surpassed 100 hours by now, but I'm in no rush to finish it. As my 400+ hours prove in BOTW, my favourite part of this series is just roaming around.

Last book: Can't remember the last time I had attention span long-enough to read a book. I started Cosmoknights v2 when I got it at xmas, but couldn't even finish it without getting distracted. I have a pile of TBR graphic novels right now -- I just have to wait for my brian to cooperate.

Last fic: Come From Behind Victory by @jenny-from-the-bau -- this was a commissioned fic and it couldn't be any more perfect! I love the way this author writes trans!Emily. The world could use more trans!Emily fics.

Looking forward to: Currently in time paralysis because I have an appointment later today, so naturally, all my brain is allowing me to do right now is stare at a clock until I need to get ready -- so, I'm very much looking forward to coming home after my appointment and (hopefully) having some executive function again.

So I'm seeing some fic authors get confused about botw Zelda's favourite cake. The confusion is understandable, but I felt like it needs to be clarified. Omg hi tysm for the ask @yumedanshi !! This is kinda long so I'm stashing it under a cut

1 - how did you discover your f/o's content?

This is a bit of a story lol. Basically, my sister got really into Genshin Impact and I thought it looked super cool but didn't want to get obsessed with the same game that she was, so I looked up games similar to Genshin Impact, and one of the most suggested games was LoZ: Breath of the Wild. I watched a few gameplay vids on youtube and thought it looked really really good, so asked for the game for Xmas that year and got it. And, well... it all went downhill from there XD

After playing and falling absolutely in LOVE with BOTW, I naturally checked out the online community for LoZ fans and gradually found out more about the other games in the series. In BOTW, you only see Calamity Ganon (a big monster thing), so when I learned about games like Ocarina of Time where Ganon, the monster, is actually Ganondorf, the dude, I was like !!!!!! I need to play this!!!!

SO, about 5 months later, I came across a Nintendo 2DS for ~£45 at a retro gaming market and bought it, plus a copy of OOT and a few other games. And thus, I met and fell in love with my beloved evil husband hehehe <3

5 - if your f/o is from a series, were you into the source content from the start or did you come in later? if you came in later, what was the most recent release when you got into it?

I kinda answered this one in the previous question but the latest game at the time (2021) was BOTW (2017) and the version of Ganondorf that I ship with is from OOT (1998) so I was... very late.

7 - are there any specific scenes/chapters/moments of your f/o that you find yourself going back to revisit more often than any other?

Hmm I'd say my favourite scene to rewatch is near the end of the game when Link comes to confront Ganondorf after scaling the tower. The reveal that the pipe organ music you've been hearing this whole time was actually being played by Ganondorf himself while he was waiting for Link never fails to give me chills. Plus the dramatic moment of him turning around and looking directly at the camera shortly before the boss fight begins!

(I always feel so bad having to fight him but he's the main villain and I really don't have a choice ;-;)

8 - are there any scenes/chapters/moments your f/o is in that you skip when you revisit their source content?

Not really tbh. We actually see so little of him in OOT that I tend to savour every moment lol

13 - do you have a favorite line your f/o has ever said?

Honestly most of my favourite dialogue from him comes from other versions, especially TOTK. But I do love the line in OOT right before the boss fight where he remarks that he didn't expect to find the other two triforce pieces hidden within Link and Zelda, and says that those 'toys' are too much for them. Because of course, only he is the rightful wielder of the triforce~

(if you're curious, this is a good video to show a lot of what I talked about here! It's the original N64 version of OOT tho, so the graphics are much much worse than the DS version LMAO)
