Willa is either dead or taken yet again. Can’t be sure whether she’ll come back or not. I hope so because she got a whole lot more interesting now we know she’s a double agent. Moral greyness matters people!

Hey for people who are not in the Discord Server, just thought i’d update you all! So apparently the company that produced Warrior Nun is Reality Distortion Field, that was co-founded by Simon Barry, the excecutive producer of Warrior Nun. So that means Netflix possibly doesn’t have all the rights to the show, so there is hope to get it to another platform.

People are mass cancelling their Netflix accounts, and posting a screenshot of their cancellation confirmation on Twitter with the hashtah “CancelNetflix”. There is a petition going around, i’m gonna put the link to that in the replies, along with the Discord link if people wanna join.

Also just as a little reminder, Manifest was cancelled, but Netflix gave it a last season cause fans were very vocal about it. One day at a time got saved by fans. Wynonna Earp too. Sense8 got a final 2 hours special after fan outrage at its cancellation. Lucifer was supposed to be cancelled too, and they got a chance at a last season to close their storyline. If you don’t want to fight it’s okay, you deserve to grieve in peace, but if you want to give Netflix shit and fight for it? There’s hope. We could have something.

Legend of Korra did more for Women of Color and Bisexual representation than Wynonna Earp EVER did. Sis needs to use her grown ass brains & finally understand korrasami was not random. It was hinted at since s3. They couldn’t show it because Nickelodeon was biphobic. Matter of fact, the creators wanted korrasami from the very beginning.

It's extremely problematic to see a white creator, come for the validity of Korrasami - the first WoC ship that changed the game for ALL of wlw representation; when the Wynonna Earp fandom is known for alienating fans of color because of its inherent racism.

3. Ava Sharpe & Sara Lance (Avalance from Legends of tomorrow) - their relationship was actually central to the show quite a bit, they made a lot of human mistakes and fixed them, got married, very nice.

4. Alex Vause & Piper Chapman (Vauseman from Orange is the new black) - super toxic, would not recommend this relationship irl BUT on tv it works. Pragmatic Morticia Adams x annoying golden retriever combo slaps.

7. Clarke Griffin & Lexa (Clexa from The 100) - what can I say, they were good but the show was bad.

What is the story they keep telling us all too often?

“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” because pain and suffering and trauma makes you strong and powerful. As if you’re somehow better or greater for having gone through it. It’s all bullshit. Being in pain for the sake of being strong or powerful destroys you from the inside out. All it ever successfully does is turn you into a monster. It IS much like being possessed.

Every strong female character I see in supernatural shows these days are empty vessels. They have no essence that truly belongs to them. No personality. It is like they’re possessed only you can never see their true character because they’re that one-dimensional you can’t know for sure what or who they are anyway. So what’s even the point in going through this possession arc with them? You wouldn’t even be able to tell if they were because you don’t or can’t know them even when they’re not. Like memory loss. What does it even matter when you can’t remember who you are or were? What’s really the difference? It’s just a replication of what it is really. A clone. But if you don’t know or can’t tell who that is in the first place… then the replication of that personality is pointless.

Possession is only ever a useful and successful character representation and development narrative vehicle to use when the character that gets possessed has so much about them that make them them that you and many other characters are able to tell the difference when they’re suddenly a lot not like them.

Emotionally strong characters are the characters you pick for a story arc of possession because it really hits. You see everything you know and love about them - everything you’re so familiar with and that makes you smile or laugh and be happy get taken away from them. It’s a process of cutting off what’s already there as part of them and then replacing it with something that violates it directly that looks and feels exactly like it at first glance. It’s so hard to watch that chipping away because what’s being chipped is something that hurts you to see happen to them because you care for them and you hurt even more that they’re only hurting themselves being this way - this inhumane, cruel way - because you know that it’s not like them to be at all.

That’s when a demonic possession arc works anyway because the lesson from it is that you don’t have to be stronger to fight it. You don’t have to force strength to happen through putting yourself through pain and suffering and trauma. Because doing that will do you no favours at all. It will only make you worse off. No, emotionally strong people are the true heroes and the hardest fighters because they’re not afraid of and going to stop being who they are even amidst all the turmoil that wrecks them from overcoming difficult situations. It is not because of the difficult traumatic situations at all what makes them stronger or more powerful because facing great adversity head on is a choice made from the strength that already exists from within. From the courage that is born, not made.

I absolutely hate the TV trope that strong women are strong women because they have to be strong women. I will argue against that dangerous philosophy until the day I die. That is never a good story to tell and it’s never the character that anyone should idolise.

Trust me. I know my shit. I learned it from the best.

I loved Wynonna Earp so much, but I think it set a dangerous precedent on accident.

When it was cancelled, we lit up Time Square for WEEKS. We campaigned and petitioned and made so much noise.

And we won.

We got a final season, lovingly crafted by the creators that loved it.

But now it feels like every good show, especially any shows that are similar in theme or are headlined by a wlw couple are cancelled extremely early, regardless of views or critical success. And networks are excusing it as being unpopular, because the fandom simply can't provide the monetary expression of their love that they did with WE.

Starting my Wynonna Earp rewatch — cannot wait for the special!

There is a common conversation that OFMD cured people from queerbaiting. And I feel that way as well — the show is unabashedly queer and never plays around with the audience. It was refreshing to watch a show where queer people existed and their sexuality is just a part of their character not the only trait.

Before OFMD, Wynonna Earp offered this same relief for me — it also treats it's queer characters and audience well, no queerbaiting!

Having come from the spn world, this was such a relief. Especially because Wynonna and spn have many, many common elements but Wynonna cares about healing their characters rather than giving into the trauma porn. (Spn finale you will always be infamous.)

I'm only four episodes in and am reminded how well this show balances the camp, horror, western, fantasy/scifi tones so well.

Hear me out: Henrietta says to Ichabod that “[his] grandmother, and those that came before her, carried the guilt of the Storms name”. No mention of whichever parent was the grandmother’s kid, so Henrietta must not have approached them. If we assume that Ick’s parents were adults when they had him, then we can also assume that Henrietta does not approach the Crane line as soon as they reach adulthood.

My theory is a Wynonna Earp sort of thing: that the heir comes “of age” at 27. This also makes sense from a “your brain has finally finished developing” perspective. So Henrietta would, unknowingly bc no memories, seek out the next in the Crane line once they turned 27. (My personal headcanon is that Ick’s actually 28 - to Brom’s canon 27 and Matilda and Kat’s headcanon 26 - in the show, but he wasn’t in Sleepy Hollow, so Henrietta never approached. This is why she approached him almost immediately after he got to town. In line with this, I like to think that Ick’s grandmother stubbornly held on to life until Ick was 28 in the hopes that she could keep him away from Sleepy Hollow until he was “safe” from the Headless Horseman!)

Anyway, since Ick’s parents died when he was young, I believe they died before reaching 27. (OR better yet, they died after turning 27 but before Henrietta found them and the grandmother believed Henrietta to be responsible for their deaths, which is why she took Ick away from Sleepy Hollow!)

I'm a bit surprised how many people are against the UK billboard! I did donate, but I never expected this billboard to have the same effect or visibility as the Times Square one... And of course, I also don't expect it to have real impact on whether we get picked up or not. I thought we might get a few news articles about it in the UK and a morale boost from it.

I understand the concerns about the fundraiser transparency, of course. I don't know how other fandoms have done these fundraisers, whether they've been better at organizing them... There's certainly a lot to learn!

I've seen some people suggest that we shouldn't buy another billboard because... we already had one? I was just reading about the Wynonna Earp campaign and apparently they bought over 250 billboards between s3 and s4 when the show ran out of funding (I also found a Twitter thread with pics of 100 Times Square billboards they bought). If they had that many, then how is 2 billboards for OFMD overkill?

This fandom gets hate for the campaign no matter what we do, even for just tweeting about the show... Isn't visibility exactly what our campaign needs, though? Are we going to tone down the campaign just so we don't get harassed? I don't really see the point in trying to protect the fandom, when the only way to really do that is to completely shut up about the show. And I certainly won't be shutting up about it :D

Anyway. These are just my thoughts on the subject. I'm very curious to see the new billboard! We'll probably learn a lot from it, from how it affects the fandom and how the press reacts to it (if they do)... And of course, how DJ reacts to it.

I'm with you-- I'm sure there is always something more to learn! I had read the transparency policy a few times right before it was announced (cause I was asked to put it up on my repository), and it seemed like it was pretty straight forward-- but obviously some things needed to be clarified! From what I've seen on the Save OFMD Crew Discord since then, they're working on taking feedback and are going to be updating it to make it more clear.

I also saw that there was a vote going on about leaving the website the same, and I think that passed, but dont quote me on that.

HOLLLY SHIT 250 billboards!? WOW. Well I'm glad they found some funding, jeez! And hey-- it worked right? I think they got their renewal, or at least they're getting a finale.

I respect your thoughts on the subject and I really apreciate you reaching out and expressing them! It's good to hear multiple points of view on it. I definitely agree that there's always going to be someone mad about the fandom. It's just hard I think for our friends who have been around and probably have PTSD from all the hate by this point. I think that means we, the folks still able to do it, should be the front liners on all this and help fight that hate back.
