Overwhelmed(Part 11 Vinny x Garmadon)

(You should check out parts 1-10 if you haven’t already, yea guys I’m uploading again I think it’ll be a little longer and hopefully better than part 10 cause like I had no idea what to write for that part and I was extremely busy but I care about ya’ll so I made time)

After that little outburst at Misako, Garmadon just stormed off to his room went in, “Garm..?What’s wrong..?”Vinny asked knowing something was off. There was no response instead Garmadon just stood there. Vinny placed his book to the side. “Sweetheart…come here…”Vinny said holding out his arms inviting Garmadon into a hug. The larger was hesitant but hugged his lover and hid his face in Vinnys’ chest. “Do you wanna talk about it…?”Vinny asked which Garmadon mumbled no.

Vinny held Garmadons’ hand which was repeated by the larger. “Did you get into a fight with someone…?”Vinny asked, the thought of what just happened stressed Garmadon out and he squeezed Vinny’s’ hand tightly. Since he isn’t necessarily human his grip was much tighter. It hurt Vinny and it didn’t help that it was the one that is burnt, Vinny thought his heart is pure he didn’t say anything not wanting his lover to be upset even more. Vinny used his left hand to stoke Garmadons’ sliver hair. “Was it Lloyd..?”He asked which Garmadon shook his head. “I won’t ask you anymore questions I don’t want to make you uncomfortable”Vinny added.

There was a knock at the door, it was Lloyd and Wu. The two had heard the whole argument between Garmadon and Misako, they both felt a sense of guilt. “May we come in?”Wu asked which Vinny nodded to. They both walked in and sat on the bed. Lloyd was staring at how Garmadon was holding onto Vinny he wanted to hate it but he couldn’t he has seen how the two act and can help but think the two make a good couple. “Do you know what happened..?”Vinny asked, Wu nodded in response. Vinny gently lifted Garmadons’ head, “Can they tell me what happened…?”He asked calmly if his lover didn’t want him know then he wouldn’t know no matter how curious he is. Garmadon nodded before nuzzling Vinnys’ chest. “Ok so what happened?who the fuck made him upset?”Vinny asked his whole attitude changed from aww my poor sweetheart to I’m gonna fucking kill someone. Lloyd and Wu could really tell Vinny was serious. “Ok so what happened is…” (I’m not explaining that go read the other parts and find out)

After they finished explaining Vinny looked flustered at the fact Garmadon said those things about him and pissed off he looked like he was gonna go kill Misako. Garmadon was quiet he didn’t want to think about it so he said nothing and continued to cling onto Vinny. “When I get my fucking hands on I’m gonna…”Vinny whispered looking away but clearly not quiet enough as all three of them heard him. Garmadon felt flustered at the thought of Vinny being protective of someone who could very much protect himself. “We understand you’re angry but please try to avoid Misako I don’t need anything else happening”Wu said.

Garmadon looked up at Vinny before gently kissing him and saying, “I love you..”then going back to snuggling him. Vinny turned this bright red and stared at Wu and Lloyd who were just as surprised as Vinny. “So I was right”Wu said causing Lloyd to turn to him. “What do you mean you were right?”He asked, “Did you not see their unusually close bond”Wu said, Lloyd was gonna say something else but said, “Fair enough”. “Well you know now, the only person that knew about it was Nya, she walked in on me showering Garm in kisses”Vinny said. “I’d appreciate it if you don’t tell anyone else”He added causing the two to nod in agreement. “I want to know everything, more so on the lines how the fuck did you confess”Lloyd said.

(ok I don’t have anymore time I think I’ll upload tomorrow I’m sorry for anyone wanting the redemption story to have a new part I’ll try to upload for both tomorrow there’s just so much family events and drama happening sorry for any spelling mistakes I hope you enjoy this chapter is longer but I don’t think it’s that great I think I like the other chapter more)

The Trouble with Dragoni Children Fanfic(Sneak Peak 2)

Uh so here have some fluff I think we could all need it, Survival Shipping Kiddos along with Misako and Wu Kiddos

BTW you might wonder what does an Oni Pup Look like and I've taken the liberty to draw Lucille,

Hope you all enjoy!

It was now 24 hours since the pups had been born, Garmadon sat on the couch one of the 3 squeaking and fussing, he cupped a hand around the pup as Vinny bustled around the Kitchen preparing their bottles.

He carefully unlocked the safe pulling out the dark matter they'd retrieved, he pulled on the gloves to carefully put a drop into the formula turning it a dark shade of purple, as he put the vial back, capping and shaking them as he walked to the living room,

"Here test since I can't, please" as he carefully took Lucille from him Garmadon taking the bottles and testing each,

"Yes, they work," he said offering one back to his husband for Lucille and then offering the two bottles to Christina and Fern,

The pups nuzzled them before latching on quick guzzling,

"Woah they eat fast" Garmadon heard Vinny say stupefied,

"Because Onis are a warring species you eat as quick and fast as possible or you starve, that starts from Birth," he responded blunt,

Vinny looked a bit saddened at this as Lucille kicked the empty bottle away he started carefully rubbing her back

"Yeah, but I wish they'd slow down. Hopefully they know it is safe here."

Fern kicked her bottle away, letting out a loud belch, making both parents stop before Garmadon actually started laughing Vinny soon followed

"Oh I think they know,"

Nobody in the Monestary had been allowed near the nest room after the eggs had been laid, Wu in dragon form sensing immediately when someone got within 500 feet, instantly going on the attack. His primal instincts kicked in, he didn't even recognize his students,

"It's been 4 months, how much longer until they hatch" Kai sighed nursing a bruise from being tail whipped by the angry Sensei wincing as Zane dabbed ointment on the nasty wound,

"Any day now, a few days after their hatched, he should revert back-" Misako stopped perking up as a soft crooning filled the Monestary "or right now excuse me"

Lloyd met her near the wing only family or the Partner in Misakos case had been allowed near, as the crooning announcement call continued it meant they were hatching

Misako took the lead, going into the sight of the dragon now stood off the nest eyeing the ornate eggs,

"Hello Wu, is it time?"

The dragon bowed his head, finally spotting Lloyd and nudging him closer

"I think he wants you to watch closely and be the first as their older sibling," She murmured Wu's strange purring seemingly confirmed her theory

He crept close his keen ears picking up chirping then the first pip, the green ninja felt like a little kid as the dragonlette smashed the ornate Egg to smithereens landing on their back

"Well hello there" he actually laughed, he could've sworn it smiled back they were a beautiful gold in color with a white mane

The second egg didn't make a sound, so they focused on the hatched Dragon, Misako looking to Wu, who allowed her to get close

" may I pick them up just to check them over and make sure they are healthy?" She asked and chuckled as he nudged her closer as if to say

" they are yours as well you have all rights to pick them up"

She carefully reached in and picked the serpant up looking them over

" looks like we got that daughter" She laughed" I think we settled on Yoko didn't we?"

He bobbed his head as Lloyd grinned gently petting her

"Hello, Yoko."

It was another about 5 hours before the second egg pipped however after 10 hours they grew worried it was well into the evening and even Lloyd eyed the egg with concern

"Mate I'm going to need to break the egg open all right?" She asked

He gave a huff and grabbing a butter knife using the blunt side she carefully cracked from the pip point, prying the top off

To their absolute astonishment the little dragon was asleep, they blearly blinked up at them looking annoyed she got a spit of smoke to her face Lloyd's snickering could be heard

" yeah little sibling I'm pretty sure that's how we all felt when we were dragged into this world" he joked as he peered in as his youngest sibling curled back up trying to go back to sleep

"He's not going to be too happy about this we can't keep carrying them around in their egg they have to come out" Misako snorted to Wus chortling laugh

She reached in and lifted the other who refused to unfurl out they just glared at her as she took a look saying

" another boy for the Garmadon family...explains the attitude"

Lloyd and Wu both gave her a look she just smiled as he furled himself around her shoulders she smiled as he went to sleep

"And this one will be Chikao"

Lloyd: *Sighs and shifts to human form* There. Happy? Wu: Lloyd, you have to be careful, especially in the city.

After Clouse found out Garmadon and Misako were having Lloyd he grew distant from the two of them. And for a while, they didn’t notice as they were focused on the baby, medicine, hospital visits, and general Oni shenanigans. After all, she could not longer party, go to illegal wrestling matches, and a lot of stuff she liked doing so she was stuck at home for most of the day. Stuck at home with a grumpy and distant Clouse while Garmaodn was off being a war general. Although one day she finally got to throw a party! Granted it was a baby shower but now she takes this as an opportunity to ask Clouse why he's been distant

Through the laughter and music of the baby shower, Misako couldn’t help but notice Clouse. Sitting on a chair, hunched over as he held a can of soda. He didn’t seem interested in the party at all and only stared at the ground. People passed by him or said hi but he didn’t so much as flinch. She sighed as she placed her cup of sparkling apple-grape juice.

“What’s the matter?” Maya asked, concerned.

“I just wanna say hi to Clouse,” Misako whispered to Maya. She nodded to her as she walked towards the grumpy man and pulled up a chair.

“Hey,” she cooed. Clouse didn’t take his eyes off the ground and nodded in acknowledgment. Now she knew something was definitely wrong. “Can you meet me outside on the balcony?”

“Why?” He sounded defensive.

“I just wanna to talk to you in private,”

“Why not right here? What do you want,” he turned to look at her.

“You’ve been tense lately and you never want to do anything with us anymore,” Misako could already feel tears build up but she knew she was overreacting. Or at least that's what she thought. Clouse looked up to see her wiping her eyes.

“Alright then, let’s go,” they both got up and they walked through the crowd of elemental soldiers as they congratulated Misako while others stared disapprovingly at Clouse. Misako could hear Wu’s heeding warning again.

It doesn’t help that Clouse is technically an elemental master but refuses to join the elemental alliance and has suspiciously snake-like tattoos. As they reached the doorway to the balcony Misako spoke again, “We we’re so excited to do this party but then Garmadon noticed you being distant and avoiding any involvement with the baby,” his expression turned to shame. Regret and shame as he fidget with the soda can. “We went shopping for clothes and all you did was stand there. We asked for name suggestions and you were the only person who didn’t say a name. What’s the matter with you?”

“I don’t feel like I have any say in that,” Clouse mumbled. Misako sighed, still tearing up.

“Why do you feel that way?”

“It doesn’t matter. You’re having that baby,”

“Well of course but that doesn’t mean I don’t care…does it?” Clouse grew even more awkward as he rubbed the back of his neck.

“Well you two went ahead and had a baby without telling me,” Misako nodded, “I get that it wasn’t intentional but I’m your husband too, we all live together. While there was that window of time where you guys weren’t sure about what to do. I felt like you two could have talked about it with me. I felt that if I had no say in having the baby or not, then I wouldn’t have any involvement in its life…Am I making sense?”

“Of course,” she nodded profusely. “We just assumed you’d be excited as well. Or at least I did. I remembered you telling me you wanted to have kids but couldn’t,”

“Yeah but I meant it like my own. I didn’t want to carry a baby and now that I'm on testosterone, I can’t. I wanted to be a father that same way Garmadon is a father—That still doesn’t change the fact that you two didn’t say anything,”

“I know, I just don’t want you to think I didn’t think about you at all,”

“Well that doesn’t change the fact that i’m angry,” Misako’s breath hitched.

“Oh,”

“I understand our relationship is weird and I’m still getting used to it but it’s my understanding that big changes like this prompts a discussion, no?”

“Of course. I understand I failed to bring up something that was very important to you,” Clouse stared at her. Confusion and frustration clouding his eyes.

“Then why didn’t you ask me?” Misako let out a shaky breath, “I want to have this child, yes; but I didn’t have any time to prepare or anything. Having a child is a scary thing,”

“I know,” Misako’s throat throbbed as her saliva thickened. She thought that the urge to sob would go away with a sip of soda. But then Clouse trailed his hand from her hand up to her shoulder and chuckled.

“Well, hold on, don’t cry. I’m not leaving you two just now,” Misako buried her face into his shoulder and broke out into an ugly sob, holding him tightly.

“I’m so sorry. I was just really, really excited and I got carried away,”

“Why are you apologizing?”

“I thought you were going to leave us and it would be my fault,” Clouse cupped her face, wiping her tears away with his thumbs.

“After everything you two put me through?” He joked. Misako deliriously laughed through her tears. “I get it. You find out you’re having a baby, you get excited and everything just gets hectic,” Misako wipes the snot from her nose, catching a deep breath.

“I’ve been alive for so many decades. I’ve probably been alive for a century or two. It’s been so many years that I’ve lost count. And despite all those years, I’ve never met anyone like you two. I enjoy your company. Garmadon will probably live as long as me so I felt happy that I could love him and have a child with him. A child I won’t outlive. So many times I've seen other Oni fall in love and have children but none of them stand the test of time. I didn’t want that so I never loved,”

“But you’ll outlive me, and so will Garmadon,”

“That doesn’t mean I see you as less of a husband,” he smiled as Misako placed her hand on his cheek, slightly stroking his long, bushy eyebrow. “So you just wanted to talk?” Her voice was quiet and smooth, Clouse felt his heart flutter.

“Yes. Granted I want to have a longer discussion with you and Garmadon but I’m glad we’re getting there,”

“Is it too much to ask that you’d be the uncle if you don’t want to be a dad,”

“That’s what I plan to do,”

“That relieves me,” she rested in between his arms, head tucked under his but staring out into the city. She sighed, staring at all of the city lights, “Y’know,” she started. Clouse hummed in curiosity.

“I didn’t understand. Garmadon was fully aware that he would outlive you and yet he didn’t care. He loved you so deeply, I saw the way his eyes would twinkle when he was talking to you or about you. It was honestly a little weird,” Clouse laughed.

“I didn't understand it either but then he told me that he has so much time and that he may as well try everything once. Even love. I suppose his love for me outweighs the fear he has of losing me to time eventually. It’s a little unsettling knowing I’ll be a fossil one day and maybe Garmadon won’t have a single wrinkle. Even more, the thought of him finding someone else to love once I'm gone but I knew that going into the relationship so I don’t complain,” Clouse rested his head on hers. “My only hope is that the three of us don’t outlive this baby,”

“That makes two of us,”

Here’s my next Ninjago design post we got the old Lego ppl!!

Okay so I have so many thoughts on these three.

So headcanon 1) Wu is actually an impulsive, hero type. He strives to do right and emulate his father, and even grew his hair out like his father because I said so. He definitely let “son of the fsm” go to his head when he was young. He’s usually wearing really airy and puffy clothes and usually covers his skin. Whilst I think he’s pretty friendly, he’s a lot like pilots Kai in that he rushes into things alone and has a hero complex. Also he’s a little stupid but yknow

Headcanon 2) Garmadon is probably the most thoughtful and introspective out of the three, when he’s on a good day. Mainly the devourers venom makes him really mad and spiteful, even though sometimes he’d snap back and try to restrain it. Garmadon’s pretty buff because he gets all his anger out in training, and he also goes sleeveless often because his biceps are on point and he knows it, also being angry all the time makes him hot. Also he has shortish fluffy hair that he cut once really messily as an f u to his dad. As a kid, he used to be the responsible older sibling to pair off Wu’s more rebellious and lax nature (as seen when he goes to get Wu’s sword, or when he tried to dissuade Wu from crossing into serpentine territory). He was generally a little jealous of the attention Wu got as the little brother, which although technically he was actually the centre of the fsm concern after being bitten, was an insecurity that still manifested itself later on. Despite his curse, he’s actually more competent than Wu, as he has more leadership skills and charisma (I mean mans was a great politician he managed to overthrow both the skeletons and the snakes with mostly just words), and he’s actually pretty good with people when he’s not evil. He also left his father on bad terms, before the fsm died, and he’s regretted it since, which is partially why he took his role as Lloyd’s father so very seriously.

Also I think it would be cool if Garmadon was also weirdly blonde like Wu, because I think the good blonde/bad brunette trope is tired and I really liked Garmadon’s white hair Oni form from the comics.

Speaking of hair, sometime around or after the serpentine wars, Wu and Garmadon had a fight (not that uncommon), but Garmadon sliced off Wu’s hair, because it symbolised their father. Garmadon then realised and felt awful and it was another mark of their crumbling brotherhood

When Garmadon was cured of his evil post s2, Wu was overjoyed to have him back. Because despite everything Wu had always looked up to and admired Garmadon. At this point Wu had been regrowing his hair and he thought that Garmadon should cut it again, but as a sign of peace, to replace the bad memory of the haircut with a nicer one.

Now let me talk about Misako.

First of all design points, I gave her Lloyd’s s8 to present eyebrows because I can :). Also she started wearing the green bandana after s2 to remind her of Lloyd on her travels.

So I am kinda mixed about her. Because she’s an awful awful parent and I’m mostly mad on behalf of the other parents of Ninjago like Ray and Maya. They would totally punt her for willingly abandoning her son.

But then I thought: what if this was really interesting though? So here’s my take on Misako. She’s a pretty eccentric woman who is obsessed with history, and honestly doesn’t know how to be a parent. That was gonna be Garmadon’s job. When she realises Lloyd was the green ninja, she ups and leaves because her immediate response was to research the prophecy more. She leaves Lloyd at an evil school because who knows? Maybe he’ll become evil and then won’t fight his dad anyways. And she really doesn’t seem to care all too much when she sees Lloyd again in s2, or at least she doesn’t notice that her actions had definitely hurt him. She also basically underestimates him, thinking he’s just a gullible kid. Until he proves himself a fighter and works with her to defeat the stone warrior and she realises she’s been kinda awful to him, and does try to work on it. They then continue to have a relationship a little similar to Movie!Lloyd and Garmadon, where Misako has no idea how to parent and it’s still very awkward but they try… mostly. Misako, every a wandering spirit, will often just freaking disappear into the blue on a wild treasure hunt, and show up on birthdays to gift Lloyd a random skull before taking off never to be seen again. It’d be cute if they write to each other though. They slowly build an actual relationship (not like the show where Misako is just kinda there, imediately forgiven by Lloyd).

So that’s my take on part of Misako’s character. The other part I actually have a hard time forgiving her for. It’s her relationships with the spinjitzu brothers. Ik it’s the misogyny writing but still it’s half her character. Like I get it, Garmadon was trying to take over the world but I’m not okay with her in s2 where she basically takes advantage of Garmadon’s trust and emotional vulnerability to betray him, because ouch. Don’t manipulate his feelings thats mean! I could live with it if the scene was just:

Misako: *shows up*

Garmadon: *stuttering like a middle school student in front of his crush*

Because like that would be funny, she wouldn’t be manipulating him, and it would show how he does actually like her and no one is betrayed, Garmadon just loves his wife so much he can’t function like a normal person.

Now for the whole Wu stuff, I rlly don’t like how she kinda flirts with Wu in s2 but goes back to Garmadon in s3-4. And the letter stuff is bs and we all know it. She’s a historian, she’s smart! She wouldn’t make a life altering decision solely based on a poem?? Part of her job is source checking, like I’d bet she’d probably be able to identify whether it was Wu or Garmadon’s handwriting. So like my main problem is wusako honestly (but all power to you if you do!), like I don’t care for garmasako, it’s not my favourite thing but it’s tolerable. The love triangle doesn’t make sense like at least Cole Jay Nya, they have the excuse of being young but the old Lego people? Nah they’re supposed to be better than this cmon.

So my solution is that Wu and Misako do not at ALL get along. Which is why Wu never knew that Lloyd was left at darkley’s. Because they weren’t on speaking terms. Which is why Misako didn’t think that Wu could take Lloyd in instead, or why she never told Wu that Lloyd was the green ninja. Because she hates him. When she appears in s2, they both have this ongoing rivalry that provides a bit of comedy, but they ultimately team up for Lloyd’s sake and also to save Garmadon. They continue to have this low key beef in s3 and s4 which is where it ramps up again, when Garmadon and Lloyd leave them for Chen’s island. That’s when we learn that the reason they hate each other, is actually Garmadon’s fault. Chen convinced Garmadon to forge an insulting letter from Wu to Misako (or some other divisive action that would lead to them hating and never forgiving each other), in order to gain some benefit in their fighting (like perhaps to stop from finding out that he was working with Chen, or to gain power idk). This parallels how Chen works, by making others fight for benefit. Then when Chen reveals this to Wu and Misako, they are obviously pissed. They do make peace with Garmadon and also each other. Then they rebuild their relationship properly in s5 (opening a tea shop together) and s7 where Misako is Wu’s closest confidant. I think they’d stay platonic tho.

-So here is an AU that I've been planning on making for months now and finally got around to making it, so here is my AU.

In my au Lloyd's oni powers are more easily accessed and he looks more oni like. He has a long thin dark tail (black with green spots at the tip) and he has pointed ears along with fangs. He has nightmares every now and then that are very vivid and realistic (the other ninja also get nightmares but not as often and they aren't as vivid). He also is more prone to to panic attacks along with being a bit more of a shy person.

Kai is also even more of a big brother to Lloyd in this au (because I live for their brother bonding). Lloyd usually likes to hide his tail when he's not in the monastery. In this au Lloyd's senses are heightened due to him being part oni and part dragon (the dragon part is where I got the tail idea from so don't attack me asking why he has a tail if oni dont have tails), his sense of smell, hearing, taste, ect. are just in general stronger than the normal persons.

If he gets angry or irritated for long periods of time his hands and feet might start turning black (due to his oni powers). It'll spread from his finger tips and toe tips up to his wrists and ankles. If he calms down enough the spreading will stop and dissapear.

Lloyd will hide his injuries from the others because he doesn't want them to worry about him and he doesn't want them to think he's weak, because of this the other ninja decided that they all have to be checked up on after missions by either zane or pixal (because they know the most about medical stuff). Zane and, sometimes pixal (depending on wether or not she went on the mission with them will get checked up on by either nya or zane (cuz they are good with tech stuff)

Lloyd in this au balanced being a ninja and online school ever since the "Tea Incident" (when lloyd got aged up cuz of mistakés funky tea). The other ninja did online school also but they finished it before lloyd cuz they are older and started before they met Lloyd (zane didn't do online school cuz he's a nindroid). Master wu was the one who forced them to do online school cuz education is needed and stuff.

Master wu also has Lloyd birth certificate (cuz misako kept on losing it in her large paper collection of history stuff). Master Wu also become one of Lloyd legal gaurdians (misako agreed to this) so that Wu could make decisions for him if he ever ended up in the hospital for some reason and they couldn't get ahold of misako.

-okay so that's my au I've created. It's took a while to gather all the details and I literally had all this on paper before typing it so I didn't forget all the details and stuff. Should I make fanfics and stuff off of this and if so what should I write about? Btw I love angst and then fluff in story's/fanfics (preferably Lloyd angst and fluff cuz he's my favorite character). Let me know what you think about this ninjago au and if I should write a fanfic on it.

Sensei Garmadon's birthday

"Tomorrow is Dad's birthday," Lloyd said to Misako.

"I know. I've been thinking for a long time about what to get him, but I just can't think of anything."Misako answered.

"I was thinking of throwing him a surprise party." Lloyd said.

"Just something small; you know he's not a fan of celebrations and surprises."

"I know, Mom. But it would be just me, you, Uncle Wu, and the team."

"Okay, should I make the cake or do you want to?"

"Kai, Zane, Cole, Jay, Nya, and I were thinking of making it. Can you take him somewhere as a gift? You don't have much time for yourselves because of work and training. And it would give us time to prepare everything."

"I like the idea!" Misako said.

"Do you think he'll suspect anything?"Lloyd asked.

"No, he won't." Misako smiled. "He wouldn't even remember if we didn't remind him." They both laughed.

GARMADON'S BIRTHDAY:

"Garm."Misako gently shook Garmadon to wake him up. "Come on, dear, wake up."

"What's going on?It's not even dawn," Garmadon mumbled.

"I wanted to take you somewhere," she said, rubbing his neck gently.

He smiled sincerely. ""You know I would love to, but the training..."

"I arranged with Wu that today only he teaches." He smiled at her.

"Well, you're a real genius," he said, kissing her forehead. "Only now will the ninjas be deprived of a good lesson." She nudged him playfully.

"I have no doubt." She kissed his cheek, and then they went to get ready.

"So, what kind of cake are we going to make for him?" Cole asked the other ninjas gathered in the kitchen.

"I don't know, what kind of cakes does he like?" Nya asked.

"Well, I don't really know; you know him, the whole thing with the diet pill that doesn't work, so watching calories." Lloyd said.

"So, he won't eat cake?" Kai asked.

"If he won't, I will!" Cole interjected.

"He will." Lloyd said "Whenever mom makes some cakes, she criticizes the calories. And then later she eats half of the pan, and guess what his apology is?"

"Hmm, so Misako doesn't get angry?" Jay asked.

"Yeah," Lloyd said, and he started laughing.

"So what about making a diet cake?" Kai asked.

"No! That can't exist!" Jay yelled.

"A cake is a cake,!"Cole said.

"I found a recipe for a diet cake. It looks like it actually exists," Zane said.

"I don't think that's the best idea." Nya added.

"I totally agree." Lloyd said.

"fruitcake?" Kai suggested.

"Yes,that sounds good." Lloyd says.

"Let's get to work then; I found the recipe!" Zan said, and everyone started pushing each others.and working.

"Where were you planning to go?" Garmadon asked Misako as he rubbed her back with his hand as they walked.

"You'll see." Misako opened her eyes and took his hand. "We're close."

They walked for a while until they reached a small street in the suburbs of the city.

They passed it and came out on a beautiful beach.

"Wow," Garmadon said as they exited the street onto a deserted pier. "It's really beautiful here."

"It's really special," Misako said, resting her head on his shoulder.

"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else or with anyone else. It's really special."

"I agree," Misako said. "It's really special. Special places for special occasions."

"S-special occasion?" Garmadon's face suddenly became serious.

"Did you forget?" Misako said, trying to keep a stern expression while suppressing a laugh.

"It's not our anniversary, is it?"

Misako shook her head.

"It's not your, Lloyd's, or Wu's birthday... I know! Valentine's Day?"

"Valentine's Day is in six months. "

"One of the Ninja's birthday?" Garmadon started to panic.

"You got the birthday wrong." Misako said, unable to hold back her laughter. "Yours," she said after the laughter subsided.

"Happy birthday, dear!" She said that and kissed him on the cheek.

"How could I forget..." Garmadon said. "And you scared me so much..." He said that and started tickling her.

"GARMADON!" Misako yelled as she uncontrollably giggled while he tickled her and planted ticklish kisses on her neck.

"STOP! We're not kids!"

"I would take you seriously if you didn't say that with while laughting." Garmadon said, enjoying himself as he playfully tortured her.

"I'll throw you in the water!" Misako jokingly said when she wriggled out of his grasp.

"You can't, love; it's my birthday today, remember," he said confidently, teasing her.

"You're right," she said, pressing a kiss on his lips. "Then I'll kill you tomorrow."

"I have no doubt," Garmadon said, pulling her into his lap. "No doubt, my love." He gave her another kiss on the mouth and stroked her in his arms.

"Okay, guys, we've put the first layer of cake in the oven. Now we need to make the cream, spread it on the cake, and bake the second layer. It's not that difficult," Nya said.

"Not for you," Kai said. "You're a woman, and we all know that women can do anything."

"I agree with that," Lloyd said.

"Our Zane is the exception, though," Jay noticed.

"And where is the cream for the second layer?" Zane said, changing the subject.

"What second layer?" Cole asked, licking the last remnants of something from the bowl.

"This is second layer!" Kai exclaimed.

"I thought they were leftovera!" Cole defended himself.

"Cole!" Jay and Lloyd shouted.

"You know you'll have a stomachache and probably feel nauseous after eating so much of that." Nya noticed.

"It contains raw flour and eggs, which are really bad for the stomach," Zane added.

"I don't feel anything." Cole said.

"Just wait." Lloyd sadly said, "My mom told me I did something similar when I was little. At first, I felt nothing, but later I had serious cramps."

"Ouch!" Cole exclaimed.

"But guys, what are we going to do with the cake?" Kai asked.

"Obviously, we don't have a second layer." Nya said. "We'll just have to add more cream and whipped cream for decoration."

"What if we try making the cake again?" Kai suggested.

"We won't have time," Lloyd sadly said, shaking his head. "I told my mom to come back at noon."

"Great," Jay said gloomily.

"Wait!" Cole said. "Who's watching the cake?"

"Oh no!" Everyone shouted and ran to the oven.

"It's okay," Kai sighed. "It didn't burn."

"It's right on the edge of burning," Lloyd said.

"I'll add the cream, and you, Zane, make the whipped cream for decoration," Nya said.

"Here," she said when she and Zane finished the cake. "It's not the best, but it's something."

The cake looked good, despite being tilted to the right.

"There's still whipped cream left," Cole said excitedly.

"You know what that means?" Jay exclaimed happily.

"No," Kai said.

"FOOD FIGHT!" Jay grabbed and threw a handful of whipped cream at Kai, who looked confused. He quickly retaliated. Soon, it turned into a big food fight.

"KHM!" A voice said something at the entrance of the kitchen, and everyone turned around. Sensei Garmadon stood at the door.

"You have five seconds to explain this," he said, looking at the kitchen, which was now covered in remnants of whipped cream and cream.

"Happy birthday!" All the ninjas shouted in unison, not knowing how to get out of this situation.

"We made you cake, dad," Lloyd said, and he brought him the cake.

"Thank you," Sensei Garmadon cautiously said, skeptically looking at the cake.

"It's not the best, but we tried." Jay noticed.

"I know," Garmadon smiled. "Thank you. It means a lot to me."

"Happy birthday, brother," Sensei Wu came and hugged Garmadon. "I assume you didn't come up with this yourself but that they or Misako reminded you."

"You assume correctly," Garmadon smiled.

"And now, the cake." Cole happily said

"Wait," Misako said, and she brought a candle. "I thought you should blow this." She put a question-mark-shaped candle on the cake.

"Very funny, Misako," Garmadon said.

"We thought about buying a hat too, but we didn't have time," Kai sarcastically said, and everyone started laughing, even Garmadon.

"And now let's finally eat the cake," Cole said, taking a step towards them.

"Ugh!" He was hit by a sudden cramp and fell over the whipped cream on the floor, hitting his head on the cake and scattering it all over.

"COLE!" Everyone yelled.

"I'm sorry!" He quickly said "I think I need to go to the bathroom." He said that and ran off.

"And now what?" Zane asked.

"Now you guys clean up all this." Garmadon said pointimg into the mess they made.

"And then we go to the evening training." Wu added. Everyone grumbled, but no one said anything.

"How is Cole?" Sensei Garmadon asked his son when he returned from evening training.

"Not good. He's been on the toilet the whole time." Lloyd replied.

"What happened to him?" Garmadon asked.

"He ate a whole bowl of raw cake batter."

"Ouch! And you did that once too," Garmadon said, smiling.

"I know; mom told me," Lloyd added.

"Yes, the three of us made some cake; she left for a second, and I turned to do something else. When she came back, she found you eating the whole batter. She went crazy on me."

"I wouldn't want to be in your shoes," Lloyd said, and they both laughed.

"Well, I'm sorry I didn't get to taste your cake," Garmadon said.

"Me too," Lloyd said. "Although maybe it's a good thing since we didn't heat the cream like we were supposed to because of some ingredients..." Garmadon laughed.

"You guys are truly masters."

"I know. Happy birthday again, dad," Lloyd said, hugging Garmadon.

"Thank you, son. And now let's not be late for the evening games."

The evening's games went well, with only a minor argument. Garmadon was happy to be surrounded by the people he loved.

"What?" She aske challenging.

"You." He said and pulled her on top of him as he connected their lips

im actually kinda mad at how they made nya be the water ninja. she's strong as samurai x, and was capable of beating the ninja right up until they reveal its *gasp* a GIRL! and then ofc her element is water, and wu and misako's shit handling of the whole situation pisses me off. theyre such useless mentors imo - wu can't see past his own mysticism and very rarely deigns to help, and misako is Wu But A Woman And Slightly Weaker. (ninja-knox-ur-sox-off has a good theory/meta on why misako couldve been one of ninjagos greatest villians, check out their stuff) honestly they couldve been replaced with teapots and the plot wouldve had the same flow. anyways, ignoring ninjago's lackluster character wrangling, nya's critical moment of truth, where she needs to defeat the preeminent, just ends with her summoning a big wave and doing it in one hit. which is fine, whatever, but there's so much more they could have done with it!

in her water ninja training, nya's weakness is her perfectionism. she's very talented and picks up skills quickly, so not being able to have immediate control over her powers is frustrating. she gets angry and gives up (similar to kai) and it takes ronin of all people to show her that it's ok to fail.

nya's been surrounded by all these impossibly strong people - the ninja, born with elemental powers, lloyd who becomes incredibly powerful, wu who is their teacher, and even misako, who is smart and seasoned. they are constantly in high-stakes situations they barely make it out of alive. (sometimes they dont make it out alive.) of course she's going to struggle with the idea of perfection - she needs to be perfect and smart and seasoned and have elemental powers and battle experience so she can save not only lloyd, but the other ninja and the entirety of ninjago. that's a LOT of pressure to put on someone!!!! especially when they are newly awakened to their powers and suddenly they are the only one capable of helping.

but nya is the element of water, a powerful and versatile element. and like water, she must persist. each raindrop adds to the flood that can level towns. her final, massive wave against the preeminent is impressive, but i would have rather seen nya struggle to summon more than a few raindrops. she fails. she fails, and tries again. with ronin and kai behind her, supporting her. cheering her on. and nya tries again, makes small waves the preeminent doesn't even notice. so she gets back up and embraces the failure and tries again. one droplet can cleave mountains. nya tries and tries and tries and lets herself fail! and she forgets the pressure mounting, the scared people only she can protect, she just flows. lets the power move through her, with her, and feels her strength and understanding grow with every misstep. she isn't trying to grasp the water anymore - she *is* the water. waves of all sizes crash into the preeminent, chaos created by an elemental master who hasn't had years of experience with her element or a mother to guide her through her kata balanced on the mirror-surface of a pond.

the preeminent falls, worn and battered like a broken jetty, eroded away by the constant water. the preeminent falls because nya gave up on doing things perfectly - she just went with the flow.

s4 thoughts: okay honestly im really surprised the tournament arc came this early in the show because for some reason i thought it came a lot later. either i had. so much fun this was such a fun arc. i was also familiar with wayyy way more of this season than the other ones which was surprising so i mustve watched the bulk of it at least twice or something.

okay lets get the worst thing out of the way so that we can talk about things i really liked. the . euuuuuugh the garmadon / misako / wu love triangle that they still keep bringing up for some reason. actually im just going to take a snippet of one of my angry discord rants and leave it at that

number 2: THE RESOLUTION OF THE JAY/NAYA/COLE LOVE TRIANGLE!!!! thank GOODNESS im so glad that is done. i'm glad we're all friends again and dont have to bring that up in any sort of significant way going forward. hopefully. id like to see more friendship shenanigans please writers please

number 3: im obsessed with how absolutely and entirely confused i am about the timeline of ninjago. i understand nothing. i really dont and i think the writers are just as confused as i am

number 4: i think they did a better job w skylor/kai than any of the other ships so far but also half of that is because im pretty sure it being kind of shallow but having the potential to be an actually functional and mildly interesting relationship is the point instead of on accident this time. at least thats what i got out of it

number 5: speaking of skylor, who the heck is her mom. real question. this is always my question whenever any dude has a child with no mention of a mom especially because half the men in question i could not see anybody getting married to them in a million years.

number 6: i feel like the writing got significantly better this season. the plot was tighter and the jokes were a lot funnier and . yeah i dont know i had so much fun the fights were engaging without dragging on too much on characters we dont have any real investment in and i really like how they didnt just put everybody into the same stone pit and had them beat the snot out of each other. many points for creativity.

number 8: lloyd & garmadon continues to be the most interesting and compelling relationship in the show, which is great for me because im terribly invested in this. my curse in life is that the more invested i am in a character or relationship the more my brain locks up when i try to talk about it so trying to put something into words is like pulling teeth but !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY WERE SO GOOD THIS SEASONNNN im also really glad they let lloyd be mad for five minutes when garmadon decides to send himself to the spirit realm or whatever to save ninjago. thank you writers. also having lloyd be the one to send him off like 😭😭😭 wow yall really out here making him kill his dad Again but also YESSSSS yesss couldnt have chosen anybody better this was so good

number 9: some more miscellaneous things, but like. dude this season was so fun. the premise is "the ceo of this megacorp noodle company is actually is holding an underground fight ring between all the elemental masters so he can steal all their powers and use it to turn all his men into anacondri" is absolutely wack and i am 10000000% here for it. still not over how the prisoners built a jet to escape the underground noodle factory, btw. some other misc observations

also cannot believe they worked literally DARETH into this. incredible showstopping spectacular amazing this was so much fun. 9/10 (<- one point docked for subjecting me to more garmadon/misako/wu) arc

1) ah yes,, the misako frustration reigns eternal. i will never get over how interesting she had the potential to be (implied to be badass archaeologist adventurer who’s also setting the trend for deadbeat moms? at the very least she could be frustrating but fun) and the dedication to making her the good guy in all conceivable situations is ACTIVELY harming the narrative. i wish she could be shitty in a fun way so bad

2) hell yeah!!!! the love triangle is annoying but cole and jay’s dynamic through out this season is very dear to me. its stupid as hell but dear.

3) mhm mhm mhm. it gets so painfully clear that they grew out of the original plan for the series VERY quickly after s2 and over time it only gets funnier as they try harder and harder to justify each new season’s premise. personal fave is “fuck it video game”

4) skylor and kai is fun!!! i’m not usually a fan of those kinds of dynamics but they’re more convincingly attracted to each other and maybe have the momentum + desire to make it work than. pretty much every single other romantic relationship at this point

5) ahh… the villains inexplicable child dilemma. theoretically she had to be the previous master of amber but imo it’s much funnier if chen just yoinked skylor from somewhere. or she was just 100% down for evil machinations and skylor’s the weirdo in the family for being half decent. either way good fuckin question why is this so ridiculously common

6) yeah!! the fights and competitions are actually pretty creative and the structure did tie the whole season together well,, this seasons technically less exciting than the others but you can def tell they had a much clearly vision and plan for it. and the roller derby is funny as hell so

7) i could talk about zane for ages and ages.. the day i finally write the android-becomes-human trope fic about him and pixal (is probably never going to come bc i can’t decide When it should take place bc his opinions would be vastly different) is the day i win. i believe it’s canon that robin’s the one who turned them over? zane rebuilt himself, pixal found him and then they got captured (the ending of s3 was supposed to tease about zane’s new body but i think it didn’t get animated correctly). i very much could be wrong but i’m like 80% sure that’s canon

8) GOD YEAH ITS SO GOOD. lloyd and garmadon carry the character dynamics for the entire show. utterly tragic. stunning. i also have nothing coherent to say about them but will never shut up about them. i want to stick s1 lloyd and current lloyd into a box and shake it until the emotions and complex feelings about their father come out

9) IT IS IT REALLY IS. ninjago at its core MUST be goofy as hell and s4 embraces it in SUCH a good way. later they get too good at angst i need stupid shit and stupid shit we get. (okay not really. what i mean is early goofiness fits with the established show, where later stuff is more. spontaneous and lol random wouldnt-it-be-funny-if stuff rather than part of the narrative’s status quo) agshdjfjfkf tysm for your reactions im never going to be able to watch it w/o those being in my head again.. ooohh there’s something there about ourboros but i don’t have words for it rn. the narrative is constantly eating itself to rewrite what was once canon so they can tell new stories. it’s crumbling under the weight of needing to tell more and more new and creative things in a world that was built for four ten minute glorified advertisements,, consuming itself and rewriting its own history by necessity…

Perspective (Ninjago Kai X Reader) Requested

Here you are anon! Sorry if it isn't a Ninja you prefer-

Might have some spoilers if you don't know who Misako is.

DEFINITE spoilers to the end of season 2.

"Your ability is powerful. But to gain people's trust you need to break their perspective about you. Some may see your gift as an ability capable of destruction and chaos which makes them fear you. Others, myself included, may see your gift as a way to help make the world a better place. So, sugar or cream?" This. The very words that convinced you to join the Ninjas side and the very words you desperately hold onto during your lowest moments.

It's all about perspective. No matter how many times you've helped the Ninja save the city, some people still don't trust you. Kai especially. The hot head and the "looks" of the team according to him.

He's always been one to jump into action and ask questions later. Always been the type of person to jump to conclusions and hold onto them for dear life.

While he may be the most skeptical of the group, doesn't mean most of the ninja didn't treat you with the same skepticism as Kai.

The only people that seem to trust you these days are Sensei Wu, Misako, Zane, and Lloyd.

Speaking of Misako, you were currently helping her with her latest archeological find while the Ninja were on a mission per her instruction.

"Tiny pickaxe,"

"Got it,"

"Fossil brush,"

"Here ya go,"

"Trowel,"

"Ace of spades, you win," Misako chuckled at the lame joke. You peer over her shoulder while she works.

"What do you think it is?"

"Well, if it's been stuck in the walls of a heavily guarded chamber for thousands of years, it has to either be something valuable, powerful, or both," You hum in acknowledgment before a loud thud echoed the room, making Misako jump and drop the tiny pickaxe. It fell to the floor as the two of you turned to the door to see the Ninja covered in soot and torn clothes.

"YOU! YOU TRICKED US!" Kai yells, storming into the room and pointing an accusing finger towards you.

"Huh?"

"Don't 'huh' us! You know exactly what you did!" Jay chipped in. Zane looked back and forth at his teammates.

"Perhaps it would be wise to freshen up and rest. A near-death experience can-"

"NOT NOW ZANE!" Kai yells. Cole grimaces, inhaling sharply through his teeth before backing out of the room.

"Kai please-"

"HOW CAN YOU ALL BE SO BLIND?! THEY TRICKED US INTO GOING INTO THAT DEATH TRAP AND YOU'RE TELLING ME TO CALM DOWN?!" Kai cuts Lloyd off, absolutely furious.

"Kai-"

"No! They PLANNED this! They wanted us to go in blind to get rid of us! They should've never been invited to the team in the first place and stay in their little evil lair! Once a demon, always a demon," The room went completely silent as Lloyd looked at Kai like he was the dumbest person alive.

"I… I'm… going to get some air," You mumbled before swiftly walking past them and onto the deck of the bounty.

"Kai. I get it, you're angry. But that was literally the DUMBEST thing that ever came out of your mouth," Lloyd grumbles.

"Wha-"

"Lloyd is right. Saying someone never changes is inaccurate. Lloyd is a perfect example of this," Zane chips in.

"And Garmadon. Well, he was originally good, then bad, then good again, but the point is he did change. Multiple times!" Jay points out, feeling a tad guilty for snapping at you.

"And Y/N wasn't the one who told us to go there, my mother did," Misako nods.

"He's right. And if I had known how dangerous it was, I wouldn't have sent you. Y/N as well, no matter how much you perceive them as the villain," Kai looked around and realized he was in the wrong and knew what he had to do.

"Fine, I messed up. I'll apologize," Kai grumbles, leaving the room. They then turned their attention to Jay who looked nervous.

"Okay! Fine! I messed up too! I'll go make an apology gift!" He scrambles out of the room while the trio looked at each other proudly.

You leaned on the bounty looking down at Ninjago city. You were contemplating if you should just pack your bags and leave if that's what they want. You didn't even consider joining till Sensei Wu said his piece.

Kai's words were the straw that broke the camel's back. While contemplating, you realized you did very little to help the team. Why did Wu want you again? For your potential?

Nodding to yourself, you turn around to start packing when you see Kai approaching you. You frown upon seeing his conflicted expression.

"Uh… hey?" -_- Really Kai? That's what made you so conflicted. Shaking your head, you begin walking.

"Hey, where are you going?" Kai asks, confused.

"Leaving," You respond curtly, Kai follows you with a raised brow.

"Well, can you at least hear me out?"

"I don't want to hear it," Kai was taken aback by how cold you were being. You're usually friendly and patient with everyone, even if they are skeptical. Kai's guilt started to swallow him whole, he caused this.

"Please?" It was a feeble attempt, one that was said just above a whisper and so upset that you'd think a child said it. You pause and sigh, turning around to face the hothead, a sign for him to get on with it.

"Look, I'm sorry for what I said and I have no excuse for it. It was… out of line..." Kai muttered, looking at his feet.

"Okay," You turn on your heel and continue walking while Kai stares at you in shock.

"Wait, where are you going?!" Kai asks, confused and a little scared.

"I already told you that I'm leaving, for good," Kai's eyes widened in realization, you were leaving the team.

"WHAT?! No, you can't!"

"First you want me to leave then you want me to stay, can't you make up your mind FOR ONCE?!" You snapped, turning to face him with tears brimming around your eyes.

"Hey, I said I was sorry, didn't I?!" Kai snaps back.

"An apology doesn't just fix everything! I'm done! I'm done being treated like I just murdered someone every day, no matter what I do to show that I'm not what people think I am! I'm done being defined by my abilities that I didn't even ask for! I'm done…" You couldn't stop the emotions and the tears from flooding, once you started you couldn't stop. You wipe at your eyes in a feeble attempt to stop the tears while Kai stared, his guilt consumed him and then some.

"Y/N," He called out, gaining your attention. He extended a hand, a small flame erupting from his palm and waving wildly, a symbol of both their current emotions.

"'Perspective is everything.' That's what Wu said. Some may see this fire as a cause for pain, destruction, and chaos. But to others it warms a house on a winter's night, it's a signal to let those know you need help.

It's more than just a little flame. And I should've been seeing you the same way. There are good and bad qualities in every person. I've been obsessing over the bad because of my perspective on you. When I should've been looking at both your good traits and flaws equally.

You said ‘an apology doesn't fix everything,’ right. Well, then what about a thank you? Thank you for being so patient. Thank you for putting up with this for so long even though you didn't deserve it. Thank you for being strong, brave, and kind. Thank you…" Kai trailed off, looking down at the ground in embarrassment while putting out the fire. You stared at him in amazement.

"Ah, that got… long," He muttered. You snicker and then start laughing.

"Th-That's the most thoughtful thing since I got here… and the smartest," You half-joked, earning a playful glare while he smirked.

"Thank you, Kai," He merely shrugged.

"Yeah, yeah. What are friends for?" You perked up at his words.

"I'm your friend?"

"Well, now you are. Only if you want to though," You smiled.

"I'd love to be your friend Kai,"

"Aww, maaaaan! How am I gonna top that?!" You and Kai turn to see Jay holding a box while muttering to himself. The two of you burst out laughing. It'll take time to repair/make the bonds of friendship, but with a new friend by your side, you're sure to gain the rest of the team's trust.

Five times others noticed something off about Cole + one time it was explained

Something was wrong with her son.

Lilly couldn’t pinpoint the exact moment she realized it, but something had changed since that disaster of a boating trip. Cole had been more quiet, lately, had been listless and almost eerily pensive at times.

Lilly didn’t like it. It was unnerving.

They never should have gone. It was supposed to be a fun outing for the three of them, a four-hour tour off the west coast alongside some other passengers.

It ended up being a ten-day stay on an uncharted island. It ended up being Lilly in charge of a group of people not quite accustomed to wilderness survival as they waited for rescue to stumble upon them. It ended up being exhausting, and draining, and the exact opposite of a fun outing.

And then they’d finally been found, and finally arrived home—

And now something was wrong with Cole.

It wasn’t what one would expect in this situation, either. Cole wasn’t sick, wasn’t running a fever, nor was he injured—no, it was none of that.

But there had been a drastic change in his behavior, and Lilly didn’t like it. It felt like there was something in her home, something that never should have been let in but had come in anyway, and that something was pitter-patting down the halls with steps eerily similar to her son but just so slightly off.

“Mama?”

Lilly jumped at her son's voice, caught off guard. She was in the kitchen getting herself water and trying to sort through this awful feeling she had. Her seven year old son was standing in the doorway, hand gripping the frame.

Despite the moonlight streaming in through the window onto his face—or maybe because of it—he didn’t seem quite real. Something about the way Cole was holding himself was just… off.

“Yeah?” Lilly shifted uncomfortably under her son’s stare. Something was definitely wrong with this child. Just him standing there in the doorway had the hairs on the back of her neck standing up.

Cole took a step forward. “Had a bad dream.” He murmured.

Lilly set her water on the counter and crossed the kitchen, wrapping her arms around her son despite her instincts telling her to be wary. “Oh, baby, it’s okay,” she lifted him up, bracing him against her hip to hold him more easily. “Do you wanna tell me about it?”

Cole buried his face in Lilly’s shoulder. “Don’t remember.” He mumbled.

Lilly hated that her first instinct here was to set Cole back down again. Hated that, for all that her son was right here and seeking comfort, part of her was convinced it wasn’t him.

Cole was still clinging to her, though, so she returned to the counter to finish her water, holding him close the entire time.

She’d have to tell Wu about all of this, about this unsettled feeling she had, but—

That could wait until the morning.

Cole had a really weird presence.

Jay didn’t really mind that Cole could sometimes be a little… off. Cole was Cole. Besides, Zane was also weird, but he was no less their brother; the same applied to Cole.

But for how sweet Cole could be, there was still something… unsettling about him. Something that had Jay’s arms erupt into goosebumps whenever Cole was around. And that was after several months of knowing the guy—when they’d first met, Jay couldn’t even look at Cole without his stomach tying up in knots.

It probably wasn’t really anything to worry about, but Jay couldn’t help but wonder why Cole had such disconcerting vibes. And it wasn’t the same as Zane’s uncanniness, because at least when Zane acted uncanny it didn’t put Jay on edge the way Cole sometimes did.

Jay knew Cole… or maybe he only thought he knew Cole. He was probably just being paranoid, but he couldn’t help but wonder sometimes.

He really hoped he was just being paranoid.

Cole was certainly… odd.

But that was fine. Zane was odd, too. They were both a little odd, but their family still loved them for it.

Sure, Cole’s tendency to occasionally stare westward was unusual, but Cole was Cole. It was when Zane started keeping track of it that things got… interesting.

As they traveled around searching for the Fang Blades, Zane noticed that Cole didn’t stare exactly westward. Rather, it seemed that the angle changed depending on the latitude, as though Cole was looking towards a certain location in particular rather than just out west in general.

So Zane conducted an experiment. Whenever he noticed Cole zoning out to stare west, he tracked the location and angle as best as he could.

Zane collected this data over the course of several days. When he was finally satisfied and had the free time to do so, he found himself a map, a ruler, a marker, and a compass.

It was time to record the data.

“Hey, Zane,” Jay greeted as he came into the room, “Watcha doing?”

“Recording data.” Zane responded, another crisp line appearing under his steady hand.

Jay came over to look at the map over Zane’s shoulder. “Kinda looks like you’re just drawing lines on a map, buddy.”

“That is what I am doing, yes.” Zane drew another line, extending it out until it intersected with the first. Since Jay was still watching, Zane elaborated, “I am marking down the directions of Cole’s… ‘trances’, as it were.”

Jay hummed consideringly. “Looks like they all converge at a certain point.”

Zane nodded. “Yes, it seems they do.” He added the final line, then capped the marker and set it and the ruler aside to survey his work.

Ten lines, crisp and neat, from ten different starting positions. Ten lines that all converged on the same point off the west coast.

There was nothing at those coordinates other than ocean, at least, there was nothing on the map. It was very puzzling.

“Wait.” Jay pointed at a small island just a few degrees north of the intersection. “What’s that?”

It was the only charted island for miles. Small, nondescript, and uninhabited. But it was also the closest thing to the intersection, and probably their best bet for answers outside of directly asking Cole.

“I’ll have to look into it.” Zane made a mental note to do just that as he stood up and began to fold the map.

Jay grabbed everything else. “Here, I’ll help.”

Zane nodded. “Thank you.”

Nya liked to think she was good at noticing the little details.

And she was! Whether it be the small details of her mech’s innards or the little things her brother did when he was stressed, Nya was really good at noticing small details.

Which was probably why she had noticed so many odd things about Cole. To be fair, a lot of things Cole did or said were just plain odd—and there was nothing wrong with that—but there were some things he did that just… felt off, sometimes.

So yeah. Nya noticed the small things, paid close attention to the boys and their habits and their moods. Paid attention to the small details of their faces, like the way Jay’d stick out his tongue when he was concentrating, or how Zane’s brow would furrow when he was deep in thought; how Kai’s eyes crinkled when he smiled—

And how Cole’s eyes seemingly changed color every so often, for seemingly no reason. How that dusty, tawny brown that looked so much like the sunbaked earth around the shop could suddenly shift into a deep violet. How sometimes it almost looked like his eyes were glowing in certain lighting. How it definitely wasn’t a trick of the light, no, his eyes definitely changed color.

Which was probably not normal.

Then again, their sensei was technically part dragon and had slitted pupils, so maybe Cole’s magical color-changing eyes weren’t that out there.

It was just a little unnerving, to look at Cole expecting those gentle eyes and see foreboding violet. Almost like there was something else there, something lurking behind those eyes. Something that shouldn’t be trusted.

But Nya didn’t like to think that way about Cole, so she just noted that his eyes changed color sometimes and moved on with her day.

She had more important things to stress about.

Kai didn’t like this.

There were a lot of things about this island that Kai didn’t like, but the way Cole had been acting since it rose was most definitely on the top of the list.

Cole was always pretty weird. And that was fine! What was unsettling was that he was acting differently from how he usually did.

First, they sail out to this random little island in the middle of the ocean because Garmadon somehow managed to get himself marooned out here, and was demanding they come and pick him up. Then, Cole disappears into the jungle with Jay and they trigger something that makes the island rise, revealing it to be some big evil mega island from Misako’s old texts. It didn’t help that Cole didn’t seem at all bothered by this.

Ever since then, Misako and Wu and Garmadon had been furiously discussing whether to stay and explore or leave immediately, and Kai was pretty sure Misako still had her weird grudge against Cole because he’d overheard her calling him a “problem” again, so Kai was staying away from that argument.

And so the ninja were cautiously poking around the edges of the jungle after having moved the Bounty back out to the new coast, and Cole—

He wasn’t acting like Cole.

He’d been muttering, too quiet to make out any of the words, and he’d go silent if you came closer. He stared into the jungle a lot, sometimes zoning out so bad that not even Jay’s bad jokes could snap him out of it.

All in all, Kai was very unnerved. And an unnerved Kai was an angry one, snapping at anyone who came near.

His stress levels weren’t helped by the fact that last he’d seen Cole, he and Lloyd had been wandering into the jungle. Kai had followed, but he’d lost track of them what seemed like hours ago.

So now the whole group was on an island Misako didn’t want to be anywhere near, Cole was acting like he was possessed and had disappeared with Lloyd for unknown reasons, and Kai was lost in the jungle.

“Amazing! Incredible!” Kai kicked at the dirt at his feet, “Oh, this is just perfect!” He had no idea how to get back. Great. Fucking wonderful.

The jungle had no response for his tantrum, just a few faint bird calls and wind rustling the leaves.

Kai huffed. He wasn’t going to be finding Cole and Lloyd anytime soon, so he should probably try to get back to the beach and tell everyone else what he knew. Of course, being lost would put a damper on it, but Kai was reasonably sure he could figure out where he was.

He looked at the trees surrounding him.

He just needed a little more height.

Lloyd was pretty sure they were lost.

When he voiced this concern, however, Cole just replied with a chipper “oh no, we’re definitely getting closer!” that wasn’t reassuring in the least. So Lloyd continued to trudge through the jungle after Cole, hoping he’d at least get an explanation for why Cole felt the need to drag him along to… wherever they were heading.

Another leaf smacked Lloyd in the face. “Are you certain we’re not lost?” He asked once more. “Because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen the same tree more than four times already.”

Cole didn’t say anything, just took Lloyd’s hand to help him up a small ledge. They continued their little trek, the jungle slowly thinning out and becoming a mountain.

“It’s just up here.” Cole said. He’d been unusually quiet up until this point.

Lloyd looked up at the rock face that Cole was suggesting he climb and groaned. But Cole was already ascending, so Lloyd swallowed his complaints and got to climbing. It was strenuous and sweaty and exhausting and if Cole was only dragging him up here to show him a killer view or some shit then Lloyd was going to scream, but he’d let himself be led out this far so he was going to climb all the way to the top, dammit.

Gasping and aching in ways that shouldn’t be possible, Lloyd hauled himself up onto the top, flopping over onto his back to catch his breath. Why did killer views have to be so hard to get to?

Cole was already moving, striding towards whatever he’d wanted to show Lloyd. Lloyd blearily turned his head towards Cole, not prepared to see anything in particular—

Oh.

That was definitely… something.

A big metal… thing sat proudly atop the stone, with a whole bunch of gears and rings and big metal balls on the end of rods like some mad scientist’s evil machine or something.

Lloyd pushed himself up into a sitting position while Cole approached the metal abomination. “Am I gonna get an explanation, or… ?”

Cole stopped, still facing towards the Big Metal Thing. “It’s the Celestial Clock.” He said quietly. “It’s supposed to count down to the final battle.” Now that he said it, Lloyd could see something that looked vaguely clock-like near the center of the rings.

Lloyd frowned. “It doesn’t seem to be doing a whole lot of counting down.” Which was a relief. Lloyd would like the final battle to maybe just not happen, please and thanks.

“Yeah.” Cole stepped forwards, tracing his hand gently along one of the rings as he moved towards the center of it. “Because it hasn’t been activated yet.” He stopped at the center and put his hands on a helmet Lloyd hadn’t noticed before. “But if you remove the Helmet of Shadows…”

Lloyd stood up very fast. “Uh, Cole, what—”

“Do you trust me?” Cole’s voice cut through the air like a knife. Lloyd stopped where he stood.

“Lloyd.” Cole still didn’t turn around, “Do you trust me?”

“I—” What was the right answer here? What was Lloyd supposed to do?

“Yeah, I—I trust you.”

Cole picked up the helmet and stepped back, his back still to Lloyd. With a grind and a groan, the clock started moving. “Then you won’t worry about this.”

“But the final battle—”

“Isn’t happening.” Cole snarled. “The clock is going to run down and nothing will happen because there isn’t going to be a final battle. We are not fighting.”

Lloyd took a step back. Okay, this was definitely starting to cross the line into Not Okay. “Cole?”

All the tenseness in Cole’s shoulders dissolved. “I’m sorry.” He murmured. “You’re not talking to Cole right now.”

At that, Cole—or rather, Not-Cole?—turned around, helmet still cradled in his hands. His eyes were a brilliant, glowing violet—no iris, no pupil, just pure, deep violet that had Lloyd’s instincts screaming at him to flee from.

Immediately, Lloyd assumed a defensive stance. “What are you? What did you do to Cole?” He demanded, green lighting in his hands.

Not-Cole laughed, an eerie, broken sound. “Relax, Lloyd, I don’t intend to hurt you.” It took a step forward, but stopped when Lloyd stepped back. “Or did you not hear me when I declared that there would be no final battle?”

“You better start explaining,” Lloyd snarled, “Right now.”

Not-Cole nodded. “That is why I brought you up here, yes.” He sat down, helmet still in his lap, and gestured for Lloyd to do the same.

Lloyd dropped the stance, but stayed standing.

Not-Cole sighed. “Alright, let’s start with an introduction. I am the being known as the Overlord. I came about not long after the First Master created Ninjago, as a counterbalance to his light and order.”

Lloyd processed this, turning it over in his head. “Okay.”

The Overlord nodded, then continued. “The First Master and I engaged in a battle for control of Ninjago. What was going to be a stalemate turned in my favor when I created the Stone Army, so the First Master split Ninjago in half and sunk my half, leaving me bound to it.” It traced Cole’s hands along the edges of the helmet, gaze fixed on Lloyd.

Lloyd frowned. “So, what, you possessed Cole when we got here? Is that it?”

It chuckled. “You’re correct, but your timing is off. My vessel first arrived on this island years and years ago, when a freak stroke of luck resulted in a ship washing up here.” Cole—no, the Overlord—sighed wistfully. “I wanted off this island. My vessel was sympathetic enough to let me in.”

Lloyd tensed. “So you’ve been controlling Cole for years, then.”

“No.” Cole said, eyes suddenly back to their normal brown. “We share this body.”

“Cole.” Lloyd put his hands on Cole’s shoulders. “Are you really, truly okay with this?”

Cole nodded, sincerity in his eyes. “Made It promise not to fight you.” He muttered.

And then his eyes were violet, though not the fully obvious, solid violet of moments before. Just the irises.

“There won’t be a final battle.” It said, “That clock will count down to nothing.” It stood up, still holding the helmet. “And nothing will happen.”

Lloyd walked over, standing beside It. “How can you be so sure?”

“My vessel was never supposed to end up on this island. I was never supposed to leave it. And look at us now, sharing a single body.” It strode forwards, Cole’s arms spreading out to the sides in an sweeping gesture as It stared out into the landscape below them. “Destiny has been defied once.” It turned towards Lloyd, extending a hand. “So why bow to such a shitty destiny if you don’t have to? Why submit yourself to a fight none of us want when it’s not even necessary?”

It gestured towards the clock, which was still ticking down. “Just wait. Nothing will happen when the clock hits zero, because there won’t be a final battle. Destiny has no power over us.”

Lloyd watched the clock tick down for a moment, processing what the Overlord was telling him. Could he really trust it?

But then he remembered his father telling him that he was proud of Lloyd, as well as all the things his dad tried in order to stop the prophecy from coming true.

“Alright.” Lloyd made his decision.

“Let’s defy destiny.”
