Negligent Hero
The sharp metal slipped under their chin, "Cheating, my love?" Villain murmured under their breath from behind them.
"What?" Hero flinched at the touch and turned around to face the enemy. The knife almost grazed them if it weren't for Villain's careful maneuvering. Their quiet gaze offered little information as to what they were implying; however, Hero did have their suspicions on what might be on their mind. "Is this about that other villain?"
Villain shrugged, "You should know better than to spend so much time with them." They hadn't suspected Villain might grow lonely without them, and although it made them fond that their opposition had such high demand to see them, it did also bring sympathy with their situation. However, Hero knew they were needed elsewhere, and their job had called them for a reason.
"It's only been a week."
"A lifetime for me." They hummed. Villain kept their unwavering smile, although they seemed more downcast.
"Plenty of other heroes should keep you entertained, my dear." They tilted their head in a teasing manner. They couldn't help but find humour in their lost expression; Villain's pride often got in the way of admitting their loneliness.
They saw Villain's hand softly skim against their cheek, and Hero leaned into it. "None of them are as entertaining as you," They whispered, nearly begging them to stay. "And I expect that other villain must be just as boring."
"Villain, they've been a threat lately. I have to do what I can."
They scoffed and let them go. A look of dissatisfaction colouring their face. Hero saw how the criminal twiddled with the edge of their gloves; they kept themselves composed, but Hero knew the evil genus was upset with the change.
"I'll still come to see you as often as possible." Hero looked back up to them. It was an unreadable mess of emotions, like telling a child no for the first time.
"You know how much I hate being treated as second place." Villain stared them up and down, "Aren't I the focus of those pretty little eyes of yours?"
Hero nodded, their eyes holding Villain's with the promise of their undying devotion to them. They wouldn't let another person interfere in their routine, and they couldn't afford to have Villain suspect they weren't loyal. "I only need a bit of your patience." They cupped their face with their hands and pulled them closer.
"Swear it to me then," Villain spoke gently between the aching sensations within their chest. Their desperation became clearer as they waited for Hero's voice.
Hero ran their fingers through their hair, "I swear to you."

I usually find myself using the same range of ages in my stories (young adults, teens), and just plotting a crime story, I realized how unrealistic it was to have almost every single character in early stages of adulthood, especially the team researching the case. Of course I have in mind a lack of experience in certain things for them and stuff but it's pretty hard for me to do older or much younger characters idk why 😭 what would u recommend? Is it somehow bad not to have a variety of ages or making it less realistic? It makes me feel like I'm doing a teen novel, sry for my english and uh ty <3
How to include a broader spectrum of ages in stories
Well, in fact, it's not necessarily bad to focus on a specific age range in your stories, as long as it serves the narrative and the themes you want to explore. If you find it difficult to write for a wide range of ages, you can certainly focus on teenagers. A story about young detectives can also be engaging and exciting, right? But if you want to incorporate a variety of ages to add depth and richness to your story, here are a few suggestions to help you:
Tip 1: Develop characters
Create well-rounded characters of different ages, each with their own distinct personalities, perspectives, and life experiences. Develop their backstories, motivations, and goals in a way that reflects the impact of their age on their thoughts and actions.
Then, explore how age can influence characters' motivations, goals, and challenges. Older characters may bring wisdom, life experiences, and a different perspective, while younger characters may have a sense of idealism, curiosity, and growth potential. By considering age-related motivations, you can create more dynamic and believable characters.
Tumblr media
Tip 2: Build relationships for characters
At different ages, people develop various types of relationships. For example, a 16-year-old girl may have relationships with peers, teachers, and family members, while an adult man may have relationships with family, coworkers, and friends in social settings.
Relationships between older mentors and younger proteges, or clashes between generations, can add depth and conflict to your story. These interactions can also provide opportunities for growth and learning for your characters.
Tumblr media
Tip 3: Pay attention to characters' dialogue and language
The vocabulary, tone, and communication styles of characters from different age groups are different. Younger characters may use contemporary slang or have a more informal way of speaking, while older characters may have a more formal or seasoned approach. You can observe closely how the elders around you communicate and make notes in a notebook.
Tumblr media
Tip 4: Research
If you find it challenging to write characters of different ages, consider conducting research or seeking firsthand experiences from people of those age groups. As mentioned above, you can make a small notebook to record the words, actions and behaviors of people around you in certain situations. Reality is always a great source of information if you know how to take advantage of it.
Tumblr media
Tip 5: Beta and feedback
You can share your work with beta readers or writing groups that include individuals from various age groups. Their feedback can offer valuable insights and help you refine the portrayal of different age groups in your story.
Tumblr media
Remember, storytelling is an art, and there are no set rules. Ultimately, it's about finding a balance that aligns with your creative vision while ensuring your story resonates with a diverse audience. Embracing a variety of ages can add depth and realism to your stories, expanding the scope of your narratives and making them more relatable to readers of different backgrounds and experiences.

I saw this one comment on a post about ao3 comments, and I can't find it anymore (see, this is why you like things, Nisile), but it's stuck in my mind. It was something like, this person had commented on a fic, and then one author blocked them, and another author was posting about how "nobody liked their work." So as a result of being blocked, and being called "nobody," there are now far more hesitant to comment.
And I thought, maaaan, it's sucks that this sort of thing happens. I mean, blocking someone who legitimately makes you uncomfortable, fine. But saying "no one" likes your work is hella invalidating to the people who do like it. It's very understandable to wish more people liked your work, but pushing away the people who do doesn't help things.
I understand the barriers to commenting, and I'll be the first to admit I don't do it enough myself. (I usually just like or kudos or reblog silently because I am 1) busy 2) tired 3) shy and generally allergic to strong public shows of emotion 4) I think someone else has said what I want to say already, not necessarily in that order). But I'm also here to say that I appreciate every read, every like, every kudos, every reblog, every comment, and every private message, and I probably don't say it enough. I am also not particularly good at thanking people for commenting, but I do try. So, uh, thanks again, everyone, who follows and engages with what I make, in whatever way. Your words and even your quiet gestures mean the world, and are the fuel that keeps me going.

List
• Part 2 > End >>
The villains in the city thought it would be hilarious to rank every hero by the level of beauty.
That’s right.
Not by skill or power, intelligence, speed, or strength at all, but beauty.
First place obviously went to Charisma. Their hero name was literally Charisma. There wasn’t anything more blatantly attractive than that. To top it off, Charisma was naturally photogenetic. Every angle captured of them was another magazine cover. Everyone downtown knew Charisma was certainly God’s favourite creation.
‘Fair enough.’ Hero thought as they stared at the screen in front of them. Their computer hummed quietly as they looked into the comments of civilians discussing their thoughts on the subject as well.
[I fucking love Charisma.]
[Congrats on first place!!😍]
[My favourite hero]
Moving on to the next one was Saturn Dust. Another gorgeous and close second place; it seemed like the villains knew what they were doing. They must’ve taken weeks or even months to prepare a list this detailed. Below each hero was a rating out of five for their other attributes like fighting style and general costume design. Saturn Dust even had a cute catchphrase, which earned them extra marks.
Hero shook their head grimly, “Why didn’t I think of that?”
Yet, all Hero was interested in was finding their position on the list. Their eyes wandered as the page scrolled for what seemed like forever.
Were they really that bad?
Before they could fully comprehend it, they’d reached the end of the page. Surely, they must’ve missed it.
Again, Hero scrolled up the page. Eyes now focused and leaning forward on their chair. Their finger paused every few seconds to count the numbers beside each name.
“43, 44, 45, 46…”
However, nothing came about. Bewildered, Hero rubbed their eyes and looked around at their empty apartment. The window let in a cool breeze from the night. Maybe they were tired, but the aching feeling of being forgotten was too painful.
Their fingers tapped on the keyboard.
Ctrl+F
A search bar popped up on the top right corner of the page. Hero quickly typed in their name, desperation getting to them.
Two results appeared, and they hurriedly pressed enter. The first that appeared was a comment mentioning them, equally as baffled at where Hero belonged on the list—the second displayed a small note underneath hero #33, citing Hero as a close friend but nothing more.
Frustration clawed at them after being left out. How hard was it for those villains to give up some recognition here? Should they throw fireworks next time? Or was someone purposely messing with them?
Hero crossed their arms as they thought about their next step. It was impossible that they could’ve gone so unnoticed for this long. Their contributions weren’t like the others, but it wasn’t as if they didn’t do anything at all.
Looking at the page in its entirety, Hero noticed a small grey font underneath the title page.
Each hero listed was ranked based on villains who fought them in battle. This meant all information was first-hand account to keep it as accurate as possible.
Hero slapped their forehead.
It made so much more sense now. Hero only ever fought Villain. They never or hardly ever interacted with the rest of the villains in the city as frequently as they ran into Villain.
They pressed their lips together.
“But that doesn’t make any sense.” They grumbled. Unlike them, Villain did fight multiple heroes at a time. Why would they purposely leave them out? Unless they forgot about them.
Their stomach turned as an aching grew within them. There’s no way Villain could’ve forgotten them but given so much valuable input to the other heroes. Hero scratched their head and glanced at the clock, their thoughts tumbling out of them by the second in search of answers. Then again, they could’ve just never approached the list and dismissed it entirely. It’s not like Villain was the only one asked for their opinion.
Hero tapped their foot, their eyes still blankly staring at the computer screen and then back at the clock. The depths of their consciousness begged them to go out and make a fuss to catch some attention. The other half of their mind demanded that they quit immediately. If not even their enemy could notice them, they might as well not participate at all.
They sighed and shut down the computer.
All this nonsense was getting to their head. It was best to be left in the dark about it anyway. What was that saying again?
Ignorance is bliss.
Hero settled into bed and tucked themselves in. Their eyes closed. ‘Besides, what am I even going to confront Villain with? You don’t think I’m attractive enough to get on the list?’ Hero blushed. Maybe they wouldn’t say it like that. Or— did Villain find them attractive?
Their memories passed them in their past interactions. Hero’s face grew warm. What if Villain was very protective of them and didn’t appreciate the chances Hero might have at getting admirers? What if they got jealous easily?
No. That’s all too ridiculous. Realistically, Villain was unlike that at all. They were manipulative and sadistic. That’s why they had those underlings of theirs always kissing at their feet. Hero frowned as their brows furrowed. No one as self-centred as them could care about some low-level hero.
That didn’t matter to them, though, because Hero didn’t need this. It was below them. A stupid list running around the internet wouldn’t affect them for life. If anything, it was pathetic that anyone would want to be on there. They should be happy that it didn’t get to them.
For about 20 minutes, the reassurance did the trick, but even Hero couldn’t be fooled for too long.
They shot up in bed, fist slamming onto the headboard, “Dammit! Why aren’t I on that list!?”

Nobody knows me as well as you do,
Indulging my every pleasure,
Knowing every trace of my body,
Every mark, every scar,
Taking your time to find my weaknesses,
Filling me with light feathered kisses,
Undressing me, oh, so slowly,
Allowing me to enjoy every second of this moment,
Accepting my every dark hidden desire,
Playing with your hands on every inch of my curves,
Full exposure of all that you want to see,
Licking your dry lips from the thirst,
You feel for wanting me desperately so...

i cannot, for the life of me, do seamless transitions
so my thoughts on writing transitions is pretty straightforward: if the scene doesn't make me yell "CUT!" like a director at the end, then we gotta revamp the rhythm until it does
i'm tapping into some weirdass flow and that's about it
