Being a writer when the order of words does not make sense to me is infuriating. I know what I am saying but figuring out what the proper order of the words is so freaking hard. And because it makes sense to me my brain doesn't want to work on it to fix it so it makes sense to other people.
And then I spend an hour messing with the order of a sentence that logically shouldn't be this hard. Words have specific placements in a sentence why is it so hard to figure out.

reminder that the only reason the "ADHD is actually demigod BATTLE STRATEGIES" and "dyslexia is DEMIGOD BRAINS HARDWIRED FOR ANCIENT GREEK" things exist in the PJO universe is because it's a very direct reference to early 2000s teaching/parenting techniques for neurodiverse and disabled children, which aimed to frame childrens' disabilities and hardships as a "superpower" or strength so that the children would feel more positively about their disabilities or situations. This technique has fallen out of favor since then for the most part since more often than not it just results in kids feeling as though their struggles are not being seen or taken seriously.
Yes, demigods are adhd/dyslexic (and sometimes autistic-coded) in the series. This is extremely important and trying to remove it or not acknowledge it makes the entire series fall apart because it is such a core concept. Yes, canon claims that their adhd/dyslexia is tied to some innate abilities, which is based on an outdated methodology. It's important to acknowledge that and understand where it comes from! But please stop trying to apply it to other pantheons in the series like "oh, the romans have dyscalculia because of roman numerals!" or "the norse demigods have dysgraphia for reasons!" - it's distasteful at best.
A better option is to acknowledge the meta inspiration for why that exists in the series, such as explaining potentially that Chiron was utilizing that same teaching methodology to try and help demigods feel more comfortable with their disabilities and they aren't literal powers. In fact, especially given Frank, there's implication that being adhd/dyslexic isn't a guaranteed demigod trait, which means it's more likely to be normally inherited from their godly parent/divine ancestor as a general trait, not a power, and further supports the whole "ADHD is battle strategy" thing being non-literal. It also implies the entire greco-roman pantheon in their universe is canonically adhd/dyslexic - and that actually fits very well with the themes of the first series. The entire central conflict of the first series fits perfectly as an allegory about neurodiverse/disabled children and their relationships with their undiagnosed neurodiverse/disabled parents and trying to find solutions together with their shared disability/disabilities that the kid inherited instead of becoming distant from each other (and this makes claiming equivalent to getting a diagnosis which is a fascinating allegory! not to mention the symbolism of demigods inheriting legacies and legends and powers from their parents and everything that comes with that being equivalent to inheriting traits, neurodiversity, and disabilities from your parents).
anyways neurodiversity and disability and the contexts in which the series utilizes representation of those experiences particularly during the 2000s symbolically within the narrative is incredibly important to the first series and the understanding of what themes it means to represent. also if i see one more "the romans have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia" post in 2023 i'm gonna walk into the ocean.

Scarian Flirting and Fishing pt. 1
“Are you alright?” Raising his head Grian looked up to see a guy with brown hair and muddy green eyes examining at him.
“I’m fine.” He brushed off, going through the items he had acquired in the past hour. “Where did a put that flint and— ah!” Muttering to himself- trying to not pay any mind to the weird guy watching over him- he lit a fire and began to prepare his lunch.
“You don’t exactly seem fine.” Grian shot a look at him before rolling his eyes and going back to his cooking. The brunette cleared his throat before walking towards him.
“What are you doing?”
“Your logs seemed a little out of place. Wouldn’t want to burn yourself now, would you?”
“It’s fine, I can take care of myself. Why don’t you just mind your own business.” He scoffed, fixing the logs himself and shooing away the stranger.
“I’d love to, but sadly I’m cursed with wanting to help people. Especially wanderers who can take care of themselves.” The stranger shot Grian a wink to his disgust.
Deciding to ignore the man, he put is food to cook before going back to looking through his haul. Name tags, saddles, boots, bottles, fish, junk, junk and more junk. Nothing of interest and certainly not what he was hoping to find. After roaming the stream for an hour you’d think he’d find something of note, but nope! Just more trash he’d have to toss out once it had accumulated enough to be dragged instead of carried.
“So... what are you hoping to find.” A yelp came out of Grian, he stared daggers into the man hovering over him.
“What is wrong with you? Can’t you just leave me alone?”
“Sorry, you just seemed so lost in thought, you didn’t even realize your food was finished.” The stranger chuckled to himself as red painted Grian’s ears.
“You could’ve just said so.” He pouted, earning a grin from the man.
“Does this mean I can stick around?”
“I’d like it if you didn’t, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you won’t listen.”
“Ah, you already know me so well. I can already tell we’re going to get along.” Without another word, he went to sit down next to Grian. “I’m Scar by the way. What’s your name?”
“Grian” He spoke in between bites.
“That’s a bit of an odd name. It’s suits you.”
There was something about this guy that Grian couldn’t quite put his finger on. He didn’t know him, but every fiber of his being was telling him this man was going to cause him quite a bit of trouble. Then again, anyone who tried to openly flirt with the first person they see, is bound to bring trouble wherever they go.
“Now that we’re acquainted, do you mind telling me what you’re looking for?” Grian slowed his chewing, pausing to think about whether or not to tell him. They had just met afterall, there was really no point in telling him. It’s not like this guy was going to stick around for very long.
“Uhm… It’s a little personal—”
“I’m sorry I didn’t mean to pry. But I guess that’s what I get for being a little nosy.” Scar laughed it off. Even though it felt like he had messed up, Grian did appreciate him backing off.
“Well, I will say, it’s just a book. Nothing too special. Just something that I need.” This much should be fine right?
“A bit odd, but I guess it’s fitting.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing, I just... You seem a bit unusual? Not in a bad way! Just out of the ordinary. I don’t know what I’m saying half of the time, so don’t mind me.” Shaking his head, he drew himself forward. “I didn’t mean anything of it. I just wasn’t expecting that.”
Without another word, Grian packed away his things and grabbed his fishing rod. Returning to the river, he sighed hoping for something different to be caught on his line.
“Was that sigh for me or for you?”
“Me. Do you just never make any noise when you move?”
“I’m quick, and fast like a cat. Of course, I’m not going to make any noise—” He stumbled as Grian turned to him.
“Obviously not as graceful.” Grian smirked, “You might do with a couple of dancing lessons.”
“Oh, I don’t dance. That is unless you want to teach me?”
“You couldn’t pay me enough.” He reeled in his line after feeling a bite, already knowing it was just another fish.
“I’d think I’m better company than all these fish you’re catching.”
“At least they’re quieter than you are.”
“Ouch, sick of me already? It’s hardly been any time at all.”
“Feels like forever.” Grian whispered underneath his breath before casting his line again.
“Already talking about our future? You must be a man after my heart.”

omg i love painting my nails but i always end up chiping them because of ✨️ anxiety ✨️
RODRICK THINKS THAT'S THE CUTEST FUCKING THING EVER. There's tons of girls at your school with perfect manicures, but he likes the way yours chip as you use your hands, as you play his drums and help him study and pick at them. It looks more organic. It's like a comfy worn in pair of jeans, and he thinks it makes your hands look so pretty. plus it's an easy way for him to moniter how bad your anxiety has been recently. If you call him instead of texting because your nails are drying and by the end of the next day they're almost bare again, he knows to stay extra close to you. He knows to send you playlists and extra I love you texts throughout the day. He drives a little slower when you go places in his van and parks a little more carefully, and if you even look like you might want to talk, he's already so down. He'll blast your favorite album in an empty parking lot so you know no one can possibly overhear you, and lets you spill your guts. He'll hug you if you want, or kiss you, or just be a shoulder to cry on (literally and figuratively) and if you have any breathing exercises or coping strategies, he knows them like the back of his hand. He's always down to repeat affirmations to you and hype you up and ask what would Billie Joe Armstrong or Gerard Way do. He kisses the back of your hand while you drive and lets you pick the music and keeps the seat pushed all the way up for you, he'll stay up late texting you, even wake up from a dead sleep bc he has your ringtone and text tone set to the loudest one, just in case you need him. He knows people think he's a loser or a screw up, but the two things he's never going to half ass are music and being there for you. in spite of what people might think, he's a really good fucking boyfriend.

So I sometimes lose the ability to speak. Sometimes it happens when I wake up, but usually it happens due to overstimulation, exhaustion due to meltdown/shutdown, etc. I’ve been told by nonverbal autistics to not use the term nonverbal to describe these experiences, which I understand, so I would only ask would semiverbal be a better term to describe my hard time with speech? Speech does take actual work for me, I’ve had many people describe it as a “thoughtless action” but for me it is a conscious, deliberate action that takes work and if I use it too much, I will lose it for the rest of the day. But while it’s not as easy for me, I don’t want to step on the toes of those who it is impossible for. I thank any other autistics, especially those who are nonverbal, for their time.

Do you have any art or writing wips you could share? :D
I’ve got both! 💛✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Me and @nixoon-again have been cooking a lil Galaxy au over the last few days so this is a very rough lil concept doodle I did of Tails design! (Star Tails supremacy!💫). Not sure if, when and how we’ll post about it and it’s mainly just been us screaming at eachother, but maybe one day when it’s more planned out!
Anddd, a lil wip from the drowning angst fic I mentioned before that I’m dabbling with! I’m still really insecure about my writing and very rusty so am still not 100% I’ll share it, but if enough people are interested and it’s semi readable ig there’s no harm in dumping it out there at somepoint! 💛✨

Could you write a Josie Saltzman with fem reader where they’re working on a project but readers struggling with the assignment because they have dyslexia
Dead Beat Essays
Tumblr media
Female witch reader x Josie Saltzman
Warnings: talk of dyslexia
A/n: this is the first time I wrote a fic like this, so I'm open to any constructive criticism
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"you good there, babe?" Josie looks across the table to you.
You look up at your best friend, a frown edged on your face. "Nothing, I'm just apparently stupid," You say, stress clear in your voice. You go back to reading the instructions for the essay you need to write for the Aztec witchcraft class you are taking.
All the paragraphs on the page have different sizes and font lettering. It's all getting jumbled in your mind while trying to read it. There are also little points in a really tiny font that just mess you up more than it has before you notice, not knowing what points they're defining.
"Hey, don't overwork yourself. Can I take a look at it?" She asks you.
You nod and hand the sheet of paper over to her. She reads it over, making mental notes about it.
"Okay, how about we work on this together, is that okay?" She looks back up from the paper.
"Ughh, I should be able to do this on my own" You groan. "No, no, some things are harder for different people and that's okay. Let's work on it together, okay?" She stands up and walks over to sit beside you.
She goes through it with you, making it easier for your mind to understand. She knows you have never been on good terms with being dyslexic. But she tries to take those thoughts from you with help. She has been since you opened up about it a couple years ago.
She helps you with making the first paragraph with the help of the outline, getting you into the groove of it. By half way through the third paragraph you've got the hang of it, knowing what is needed by the outline paper and Josie being there when you need help. Anything to do with English essays and assignments like that has never been your strong suit. But you try the best you can.
Josie has been a life saver for the past couple years and you couldn't be more grateful.
"Finally!" You say after finishing the conclusion paragraph. You raise your arms up, excitedly. "Thank you for helping" You look over to Josie.
"No problem. I'm always here if you need help" She hugs you.
Laughes in I still haven't read the books, but this au is surviving solely on spoilers, so please continue enjoying this while I procrastinate reading the first book.
Part 1, part 2
I think in this au Apollo would try and keep the fact that he is Apollo slightly more on the down low, as he can't have people knowing that the great Apollo as not only been turned into a mortal but also lost his hearing and voice. I headcanon that he'd only tell Chiron and Dionysos that he is in fact Apollo at the start, because he is a little embrassed by the whole being a mortal thing.
I think Apollo has slightly more demigod traits in this au as slight compensation for being deaf and mute, meaning that he can eat Ambrosia but has a very low tolerance for it compared to other demigods.
Despite not being able to hear Apollo is still very good at playing instruments, but he is very sad he can't actually hear it himself.
I imagen the infirmary scene is just Apollo nodding or shaking his head at Will a lot because of the whole mute thing and I doubt every character automatically know sign lanuage (well expect the children of Hermes since he is the god of lanuage)
I imagen when Meg is done poking people in the eyes and kicking people in the crotch when she arrives at camp she'll go hunting for a notepad and pen, since at this point she is well aware Lester can't talk or at the very least doesn't know how to (since not all deaf people know how) and that it will be super helpful if he has a reliable way of communicating with people. Meg probably also basically drags Lester around camp most of the time as she at the start is the only person who knows he is deaf and her bringing him a notepad and pen could just be for the whole being mute thing.
Also Apollo might not be able to swear of the river styx since he can't talk.
