Naruto is weird in many ways. Especially in terms of worldbuilding. speaking as someone who was into fanfiction from the 2000s, there was so much that changed in the elements of Naruto that people writing fanfiction were constantly having to change their frameworks, or have to put the rather ignoble looking tag of "non canon compliant" at some point. I have sat through so many author notes talking about "the manga/anime did this, so as of volume/chapter, my story is officially an AU". And there was a lot of it. And that's not talking about the shitload of retconning that Kishimoto just loves. Story stuck? Retcon. Need to escalate? Retcon. Anything at all? Retcon.

Remember when the Kyuubi was a demon? As in a full blown mythological demon rather than what it ended up as? Fanfiction went all in on playing with mythology. The whole Inari business, the Fox summoning contracts, the constant and surprisingly persistent use of "kit" as the pronoun of choice from inmate to warden...all of that was fairly ubiquitous. And back then naruto fanfics were much more imaginative too. The worst villain was Orochimaru, that terrifying amoral mad scientist who was willing to let the world burn for his immortality. He got nerfed.

Or Naruto's father? We all thought he was some guy named Arashi, because of that one panel with the name Arashi Kazama in the Toad summoning scroll. The Fourth Hokage was called that name for a long time, enough to have tons of fanfiction about it at a time when naruto being the Fourth Hokage's son was just a fan theory.

I will always find the idea that we all "knew" Tobi was Obito long before the official announcement funny.

The early speculation about what the other villages were like were rather interesting as well. I mean, consider what we learn about other villages from a manga release timeline. We hear about kiri through Zabuza and his posse. Kirigakure became this villainous, murderous place. We see Suna through the chuunin exams and they're basically this weak village which get owned. Hell, their Kage gets taken out by a random missing nin and they don't even realize! Grass is represented by a team that basically exists to give Orochimaru fleshsuits to infiltrate the Chunin exams with. Ame, they're assholes - like, Hanzo probably hadn't even been conceptualized as a character yet, so they are at this point one-dimensional assholes who exist to get beaten up by the Konoha troupe. We learn about Kumo through Neji's tragic backstory. And we learn that Kumo is a bunch of backstabbing honorless villains. And this shaped how the fans saw the other villages.

Like take Kumo. By the end, Kumo was basically Ninja USA. Militarized, aggressive, and expansionist. Outside of that they also had a lot of Black people, which is an interesting choice for a japanese ninja universe, if a welcome one. That kumo did not exist when Neji's backstory was being belted out to all and sundry. That was a much later invention when Kishimoto got baked(or whatever he does when he gets writers block). Yet, by the end, they seem to be Kishimoto's go to for ninja awesome. Oh, the other villages have badass characters? Hey, look at Kumo! They have lasers! and the stuff of original ninja Jesus! That do cool shit! and their leader is so badass he cuts off his hand without looking at explosions! Lots of Kumo wank in the fanfiction. Or maybe it's just where my searches led.

Or take Oto, sound village. I remember a time when Sound village being a Konoha copy because of Orochimaru being a Konoha missing nin was a thing. They had the whole village with tower in the middle and everything. Sadly, canon has forever robbed us of the classic scene of Orochimaru drowning under paperwork. Why Kishimoto why?

And remember when Itachi was a terrifying villain instead of a tragic hero? I remember reading fics that made Itachi a terrifying force of nature, a sadistic mofo that made satan look like a putz. And then Kishimoto was like "nah" and everyone was suddenly "I heart Itachi! UwU!" or something.

Akatsuki as a whole has gone through a wild ride. When Itachi showed up, there was so much speculation about what they were gonna use the jinchuuriki for. Tailed beast WMDs were fun reads, if terrifying to imagine. Zetsu was a grass nin. Deidara ended up Naruto's brother in so many fics. So many fics that are now forgotten because Akatsuki got a canon backstory.

It's kind of funny how the further we went along the Naruto timeline, the more restrictive fanfiction became. We all became collectively chained by canon. Plots became more streamlined, and frankly dull. The imagination just disappeared. It felt like every second fic was basically "Naruto has a bloodline" and after some very energetic academy time and wave mission the story disappears into the abyss of dead fanfics. I'm just saying, if fanfics rose up from the grave, kancolle style, because of grudges against their authors, we'd have a shitload of underdeveloped Narutos with all sorts of weird bloodlines.

Hell, until Dreaming of Sunshine came along, Self Inserts were just about done. Imagine that for a second. That the most self indulgent type of fanfiction ever, the one everyone at least imagines writing, was an endangered species! And DoS was one of the more canon restricted fics ever, carefully plotting out canon while having long introspective monologues. It was a wild time.

The crossovers and smut are a different topic entirely. I've not forgotten those, but not really something a random Tumblr post can touch reasonably well.

We have Boruto now, love it or hate it. And personally I hate it, though I don't begrudge those who don't. My personal issues stem from how they did the original characters dirty. In a Doylist sense, I understand why, considering that if the older generation was the terrifyingly competent bunch they had become, then Boruto would by necessity end up as slice of life with chakra. But the way they completely twisted their characterisation was just sad. That scene where those rookie nine jump in like chumps and get stomped in between frames? Who wrote that shit? And why?

And worst of all, Shino has a toaster of all things for a mask!

In the OG naruto series, the older generation then was shown as impressive people of their own. There was respect there. Anyone remember the Allied Moms? The younger generation had come up to the fore because they had grown into splendid shinobi, children who had grown to surpass their parents, not because their parents had become nerfed. Why does Boruto need to make the characters we love incompetent to make the new generation look better? But I digress

Naruto now is a different beast. It's had time to settle in, mature as a series. The sequel has made things different, but the fanfiction still exists online, showing a side of the fandom that saw it evolve. In the forgotten depths of the interweb are splendid stories of the past, prose written by dedicated and talented fans who crafted amazing tales. Who remembers those days? Who remembers those fics? Do we? Do their authors?

I'll still read Naruto fanfiction. It's a good chunk of my life I've invested there. Call it sunk cost fallacy if you must. But some part of me misses a different era, when Naruto was the frontier, and everyday was a new fanfic, a new adventure.

Would you ever write, a team Taka time travel fic, but instead it's every member of Team Taka except Sasuke.

You can do any time you want, but the scenario in my mind rn is adult Taka pre-Sarada, post-ending travels to during/pre-chunin exam so that not all of them are with Orochimaru and so that adult Karin has the opportunity to interact with genin Sasuke.

Hey, time travel taka anon here, i just realized i didn't explain some of the specifics and was originally gonna leave it there cuz i'd be funny

uh, so feel free to do whichever version pops into your head first/ whichever the more chaotic.

But uh, it was karin, suigestu and juugo accidentally waking up in their child/younger bodies.

None of them are aware that the other members of the team also time traveled and none of them are in a place where they can easily meet up, (well they could if they actively tried)

Hmmm most of this doesn't seem like something I'd write.

I think I would write a Team Taka time travel story, but I don't have a lot of headcanons about what Juugo and Suigetsu were doing pre-Orochimaru, so I'm not very interested in writing them waking up in their past bodies. I would write a quick oneshot of them as Chaos Young Adults ripping their way through the plot because they don't know WTF they're doing.

I also.... am kind of picky about how Sasuke and Karin interact in fic, if that makes sense? Like, I think Karin is her most interesting when Sasuke is not there or in some sort of AU where his presence doesn't shut down 90% of her decision making (same goes for Sakura). But at the same time, when things are Sasuke POV, I get kind of annoyed if he actively ignores Taka's existence in general...

So I think the pieces of this I might write are: Karin wakes up in her twelve year old body in Kusa. She goes, "Fuck this, my life was awful, I am getting OUT" and comes up with an elaborate plan to defect during her chunin exam. (Either trying to leverage her Uzumaki heritage to defect to Konoha itself, or else using the chaos of the Suna invasion to fake her death and flee... the former is a premise I'm found of, but honestly the latter seems more like something she'd actually plan instead of accidentally stumble into.)

The first bit of the fic is her inner monologue going DO NOT APPROACH SASUKE HIS TEAM IS TROUBLE followed immediately by OH NO I HAVE APPROACHED SASUKE. He's.... twelve, so very annoying. Karin promises herself she's not going to get too involved with team 7, just use them to pass her exam without anyone getting suspicious of her suddenly being 1000% more skilled than she should be, and then Orochimaru attacks and that plan goes completely out the window.

shikatema would do so well in a royal au!! i think royalty × bodygaurd fits them best, but there's so many ways to do it (royalty × commoner, an arranged marriage etc). somehow, i think they both would fit either role perfectly! also great job on your work!!! its literally so amazing!! anything written by you, no matter the length, is worth reading for me :) have a good day!

in my quick fantasy I’m spitballing rn, I /want/ her to be the bodyguard, but I think in reality I’d have the au where suna succeeded in trying to destroy konoha and they never met post-chunin exams, but he obvs knew all about her, etc. and he reluctantly ends up as her bodyguard and he HATES her. HATES her and what she stands for, etc. but she also hates her role and what they did, etc. she just didnt know it at the time. but he’s an asshole and she hates him too, but eventually they have to work together and bond. ugh, im so down.

won’t write this probably ever though (mostly just bc the thought is too daunting it’d have to be so long and end in some konoha-revolution…. OR they do that and temari helps the rebels basically execute her father, but then once they’re separated, stays with Suna to help rebuild bc they’re her people and he has to rebuild konoha and they’re separated….. and THEN full-circle, ends with them coming back together as diplomats bc that’s what their countries need, but this time they’re equals).

Okay I’m done that’s my morning shoot-fire fic idea.

I couldn’t so another arranged-marriage because i think, for me, it’d be beating a dead-horse. i’ve gone through so many iterations of their feelings around it, it’d be hard for me to tread back into that territory without being repetitive. okay im done thank you for listening to this talk.

Today I offer you, the fix-it au of sorts i have regarding shippuden/boruto and that, because i keep forgetting to write it down:

- this is kinda self indulgent and is the general canon(?) of some of my fics so this is for reference, too xd (though i don't focus on more detailed aspects so this is for that). i can't focus on all characters but there's mostly stuff for; naruto, hinata, sakura, team gai and kakashi.

long post ahead:

Naruto

(trans, bi & poly)

he always wanted to be hokage, but it was more about the respect the hokage gets– few people treated him well. but if he became the leader of the village, he would be finally respected by civilians and ninjas alike.

they would stop being so mean with him without apparent reason. and after the pain arc, he becomes a hero and they all finally start treating him with the respect he had wanted for so long. so i think he would be satisfied with that and become a jounin instead. maybe even an anbu.

he still gets married with hinata and the last happens, though neither of them feel like it's... genuine. they're friends and all, they still have himawari and boruto– but they're not really happy?

naruto still likes sasuke, and had been hanging out with gaara since he came back from his trip with jiraiya. hinata realizes that the kind of love he feels with sasuke is stronger than the one they both have.

the next time sasuke comes to the village, naruto and hinata separate– but they're both alright with that. Neither naruto nor sasuke have many ties with the village and naruto started kinda crushing on gaara after a while, so they both move to Suna with him and are very happy together(sasuke sometimes goes nomadic for his missions but always sends letters to his boyfriends).

without the responsibilities of naruto being hokage, he in turn becomes a more present dad with himawari and boruto and they're very happy :) they see each other on weekends and naruto doesn't miss any important dates anymore.

gaara still adopts shinki, who loves his siblings very much and is very protective of them.

Hinata

(non binary, grayro & bi)

They're known for doing very good medicinal balms since the first Chunin exam. i think she could just.. Straight up sell some, if she needs to. i think they like gardening so maybe she grows her own herbs and plants, and starts a mini store of natural remedies that are very good. and shampoos and soaps and they becomes actually popular with their crafts.

this started becoming more occurrent when she and naruto were about to go on their own ways. They move back to the hyuga compound with her kids for a while and works more on that, with boruto helping her on this and him finding out that's actually very relaxing. it becomes their shared hobby and they bond with that, too. himawari just likes drawing but helps from time to time too.

Hinata became friends with tenten because she was interested on the spiritual side of the plants, as she likes fortune-telling. i think tenten does witchcraft too, more as a family tradition thing but still being very passionate about it.

after a while hinata kind of started having a crush on tenten because, well. naruto was someone that always did his best to get what he wanted, and tenten is like that too– with her weapons shop and that.

so they just... told her. but tenten didn't like her that way, or anyone. still holds hinata very closely in her heart, but not in a romantic/sexual way– they move together some months before boruto's seventh birthday, and they may not be dating but they still make it work.

later, when they have been together for years and years and people still wonder the nature of their relationship, they discover the term 'queerplatonic' and they feel like that's the word for what they have.

Tenten

(trans, non sam aro)

she is very happy with her weapons shop. started getting closer to hinata, though it wasn't romantic love what she felt– it was stronger than friendship, but. didn't had a name.

after hinata confesses, tenten is very confused and turns her down. she doesn't feel the same way, but... the thought of living with them was really nice. they end up moving together after a while, and enjoy each other's company a lot.

tenten still does her fortune-telling and ends up teaching hinata, boruto and himawari too. its a thing from her family, so it made sense for her to teach to her partner and kids.

Sakura

(demiromantic)

in part one, she was considered the best one out of her team. even sasuke said she was better than him, on genjutsu. she was smart until misogyny from kishimoto acted up, so we'll use the original concept without the misogyny.

smart, even better than an uchiha who even said to her that she was better... it's no wonder that she ended up being the hokage after kakashi. she was trained by a sannin, who was also hokage before kakashi... it makes sense if you really think of it!

well. she's the hokage and is living with ino, they have two kids- sarada, which sasuke helped conceive, and inojin. inojin was an orphan from the yamanaka clan that ino took in.

(sai is a father figure for him, and inojin even calls him dad– nobody minds, sai even smiles when that happens.)

back with sakura. she is a very strong and lovely woman, and is organized though she gets irritated easily so everyone knows to not mess stuff on purpose.

she has a long time as the leader of konoha, and is very loved and missed on the time of her retirement.

Kakashi

(trans, gay)

He pretty much spends most days with his husband after retirement– always made up excuses to cuddle with him instead of going to work when he was Hokage. Is more clingy than he lets show publicly.

He is very happy now than before. Takes a lot of photos as Suikea, and so far only Gai noticed it was him, but doesn't really mind.

Gai

(genderfluid, demisexual)

He moved in with kakashi after he recovered from the war. they were planning it since pain's invasion but life happens™ and they couldn't, then war started...

after everything is over, he makes sure to stay on contact with his team- they're his kids and he loves them with all his heart. makes sure to send them letters when they can't meet for a while for reasons. sometimes they all have dinner together and are very happy :)

Neji

(non binary, reciproro ace)

Neji almost dies in the war, but sakura managed to save him and that kind of started a friendship between the two. They get chronic pain because of all the injuries he suffered, but it's getting manageable with medicine and physical therapy. though sometimes its too bad to get up, but they go walking with hinata almost daily- she goes to his house and usually realizes something is wrong. either her, metal or lee realize and help him on the really bad days.

neji also has some birds and they all have silly names/names that rhyme– the older ones are called feather and heather, for example. they really love them.

Lee

(bi ace, sometime i write him as trans too)

He's still a jounin here and is very good at it. Sometimes he has to leave the village for entire months, but he always send his family and team stuff so they know he's alright.

Neji and him at first weren't going to have kids at all, but lee just saw metal and grew attached to him. They end up adopting him and the three are really happy, even if at first its complicated to adapt™ the two love their kid with all of their heart.

As always, this is all @depressedkakashihatake‘s fault! But I must say, I needed a small break from the insane shit I’m writing right now. So. About that Rogue Kakashi AU. And now I’m discovering a small love for Genma/Gai (I still love KakaGai more, but, I mean, I do appreciate them)

Anyway. I was saying? Ah, yes. Here’s a bit of angst.

No matter what.

“You still love him.” Genma’s voice is firm and his eyes hard. Gai knows that he’s not asking, he’s only stating the truth, and he finds himself looking away from his partner’s face. “After everything you went through because of him...” The tokubetsu’s hands close around Gai’s, his senbon kept between his clenched teeth.

Gai feels like a rock is stuck in his throat, and he has problems swallowing down the lump. “I’m sorry...” Is all he can say, his voice barely a whisper, so far from his usual boisterous self. He grips hard on Genma’s hands, almost afraid of letting go, lowering his head until it was resting on his lover’s shoulder.

The chunin exams where finished with almost no problems at all, aside from Oto’s shinobis trying to attack them, even if their attack was rather weak. It seemed that their boss, whoever they were, never showed up, and they went down easily. Suna’s Kage was missing and Lee’s leg was still in an uncertain condition after his fight with Gaara, but Gai couldn’t bring himself to care right now.

He feels bad for it, Lee is his adorable pupil, he’s like a son to him, but after seeing Sasuke using the chidori against Gaara he feels like his brain had stopped, reaching a screeching halt and erasing anything else around him, because that was Kakashi’s jutsu and no one but him could use it, and that meant that Kakashi was out there, somewhere, helping Sasuke with his training.

Genma doesn’t say anything, he just bring one hand Gai’s silky hair, massaging his scalp with tenderness. “I’m sorry...” Is all that Gai can whisper, but Genma is not mad at him. He’s mad, yes, but at Kakashi, who thought that he could reappear after more than ten years like it was nothing. Like he had any right to just teach something to a Konoha shinobi.

Genma is not able to explain all of this to Gai, and all he can do is letting his hands go to hug him, trying to keep him grounded. They stay like this for a long time, Gai murmuring apologizes and shaking in his arms, Genma embracing him with all the love he feels for him.

He always knew that Gai was never really able to forget Kakashi, even after the Hatake decided to run away from the village after the Yondaime’s death, at barely fourteen years old, leaving behind no one but Gai, who always cared way too much about him. It stings, but Genma knows that he can’t do anything about it, no matter how hard he tries.

“You’ll try to see him.” Is what Genma says after a long time in silence, and Gai goes rigid in his arms, before the first sob break free from his control, followed by many others. Gai’s not pretty when he cries, he’s loud and he has snot in his noise and his face becomes red and blotchy, but that never stopped him from breaking in front of Genma, who’s probably the only person in the whole village that saw him cry for real, and not his usual manly tears.

Gai cries, and Genma holds him while they sink to the ground, on the floor of his apartment.

Genma hates this, hates that just the idea of Kakashi being near the village can make Gai cry, he hates that Gai’s feelings are still so strong after all this time, even if he was able to make room in his heart for Genma as well, because Gai has enough love for two, even if Kakashi doesn’t deserves the tears of this wonderful, pure-hearted shinobi who never tried to kill his emotions just because the others says that it’s the right thing to do.

“I’m not going to stop you, Gai.” He murmurs, on of his hands never stopping stroking Gai’s hair, trying to make him relax just a bit. “But if you do want to see him, than I’m coming with you.” That gets him a reaction, and Gai’s suddenly looking at him through teary eyes, and Genma smiles. It’s a small smile, a bit pained, but still honest and full of affection. “I’m not letting you deal with this alone, Gai. I still love you.”

Gai’s lower lip tremble, and Genma can’t help himself. He takes his face in his hands, kissing his damp cheeks, and than his eyes, before kissing his lips with all the love he feels for him, and Gai is clutching at him like Genma’s the only things that can keep him afloat in his internal ocean of emotions.

“I still love you too...” He hiccups when Genma breaks the kiss, their foreheads one against the other, and Genma chuckles weakly, sweeping his thumbs on Gai’s cheeks to take away his tears.

“I know.” He says, looking at Gai’s bottomless eyes, his smile gentle and kind. “I know.”

ICTOAN’s Big ol’ Planned Fic Masterlist:

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while, but now’s as good a time as any, so; here’s a list of all the fics I’m currently working on and plan to write in the future! (I’ll keep this list updated any time I finish/start/think up something new and there’ll be a link to this page in my blog header)

I’m hoping that getting myself and other people excited for my planned fics will encourage me to crack on and finish my WIPs

Current WIPs:

Here are all the fics I am currently working on, I’m still trying to find a balance where I can update more regularly without sacrificing quality, I don’t know if I’d be able to work on more than 3-4 fics at a time, but I will probably be experimenting with having five or six on the go at some point – I do tend to get easily distracted and having more fics I can bounce between might actually be easier for me

My ideas for future fics (in order of when I will most likely start them), they’re mostly still in early stages of development and everything here can and probably will change by the time they actually come out

Next in the Gem AU –

· Sequel(s) to ATFC

· Pairings: NaruGaa, NaruHina, HinaGaa, NaruHinaGaa, SakuTema, SakuTemaTen, KakaIru, KankuKiba, InoShikaCho

· Follows directly off of ATFC, the second act of the overarching LTL plot, will be similar to ATFC but more action and plot oriented

· There will also be a third fic to follow, along with a few spin-off oneshots/collections

False Starts –

· Kase-san fic

· Pairings: KaseYama, Aroace!Mikawa, maybe others

· AU setting, the girls never met at school and thus led very different lives, Kase went on to become a star sprinter, but, with her entire life revolving around athletics, as she grows older and her star fades, she finds herself lacking motivation and teetering on the edge of depression, meanwhile Yamada has done exactly what was always expected of her, going to a local college, taking a course she liked but didn’t love and eventually becoming a teacher, never realising the option to follow her passion was even available

· Story follows Kase as she’s forced into a long-term ‘vacation’ back to her hometown to rehabilitate and rediscover her drive, while there she meets Yamada and they strike up a friendship and eventual romance, helping each other find out what kind of life they really want to live and realising that it’s not too late to try

· Mid-to-long fic, mostly fluffy, slice-of-life romance, but with exploration of things like depression and mid-life crises, the girls will be about 32-34 in this, possibly a little older

Liquor Bottles and Ukuleles –

· Pairings: ChoGaa, ShikaTema, SakuKarui, InoTen, ex-LeeGaa, ex-ChoKarui, Aro!Kank

· Long-ish fic, college AU, Chouji is a happy but lonely student, who has accepted that he’ll never meet ‘The One’, until his best friends shove a cute redhead in his direction, mostly a fluffy romance fic, though there will be some drama

· Blind!Gaara

· Lots of close friendships (InoShikaCho, ChoKarui, ChoOmoi, ChoKaruOmoi, InoTema, Sand Sibs)

College AU –

· Pairings: NaruGaa, HinaMatsu, possible others

· Short fic, each chap split into two sections, one following Naru/Gaa and one following Hina/Matsu, though they will sometimes intersect, both pairs will be getting equal billing, mostly a sweet and fluffy fic, it might (Might) have some smut (mIGHT)

Ghost Hunter AU –

· Another series, made up of short stories following a particular character/pairing

· Pairings: NaruGaa, SakuIno, KakaGai, TemaTen, HinaOmoiCho, ShikaShino, KankFuu, possible others

· Each fic will be standalone, but will reference other fics in the series (first in series will likely be NaruGaa, then SakuIno), Team 7 are a gang of ghost hunters who travel the country dealing with paranormal activities, meeting all sorts of new people and strange situations along the way

YodoChou Fic –

· Pairings: YodoChou, probable others

· Canon-verse, next gen, I’m thinking this fic will be much more similar to the Naruto manga than my other fics with an action adventure story that has ninjas doing ninja stuff, though that doesn’t mean I’m not going to just ignore Everything that happens in Boruto, it’ll be more like the first few arcs of Naruto where the conflicts/stakes are relatively small scale and it’s more about the characters than any big world-shaking events

NaruGaa Gym AU –

· Pairings: NaruGaa, SakuTema, probable others

· Short fic, modern AU, Gaara is the sickly noodle boy who is roped into going to the gym with his big sis, where he meets the chipper, chubby gym-bunny Naruto, who peptalks him onto a treadmill and then laughs for ten hours when he Immediately trips over literally nothing and sprains his ankle (and then buys him a coffee to apologise), meanwhile Temari has managed to get into a weightlifting competition with buff lesbian Sakura and it all gets a bit out of hand

InoHina Modern AU –

· Pairings: InoHina, NaruHina (kinda), probable others

· Based on this post

Post-college AU, Ino owns and runs a small boutique, when one day a shy, modest-looking woman comes in and starts browsing the more ‘scanty’ range, quickly picking up on her uncertainty and discomfort as she brings a miniskirt and low-cut tank top to the counter, Ino decides to help her get the guy she’s been mooning over for years (Naruto) by giving her a makeover that works with Hinata’s style, before realizing that she’s totally fallen for her somewhere along the way and now has no idea what to do about it

SakuKarui Modern AU –

· Continuation of this drabble

· Pairings: SakuKarui, HinaTema, KankuShino, SaiFuu, Aro!Gaa, InoCho, NejiLee, OmoiNaru, possible others

Short fic, post-college, Karui is a struggling artist trying to make a living as a recent grad, Sakura is her loving, but delinquent, girlfriend, a med-school dropout, who somehow always manages to get into fights, both dealing with quarter life crises and trying to build a life together

Mythology AU –

· Pairings: TemaRui, SakuInoHina, Aro!Ten, KarinFuu, KurotsuFuu, KureKonan, Aro!Yugito, ShizuRin, KaruraKushiMei, ChiyoNade, possible others

Not entirely sure what I want to do for this, but I just really like the idea of exploring the ‘all the nart girls as goddesses of war’ idea somehow, will probably be a short drabble collection, each chap focusing on different characters/relationships, I’d like to keep this to only the girls (though some will be nb in this)

Hospital AU –

Short fic, real-world setting, most of the gang works at a hospital, centres on surgeon!Sakura and administrative manager!Temari’s mutual unrequited love, and the scheming of their friends who’re trying to get them both to realise how head-over-heels the other is for them, a fluffy comedy with some Sad

Sci-fi AU –

· Pairings: HinaMatsu, ShikaNaru, InoChoTema, LeeGaa, NejiTen, KibaRui, ShinoOmoi, KakaGai, AsuKure, Aro!Saku, Aro!Sasu

· Continuation of this drabble

· Long-ish fic, (light) sci-fi setting, a team of scientists from all fields is on a (likely one-way) expedition, hoping to push the boundaries of human knowledge and discover more about the galaxy and potential life outside the solar system (without disrupting it if at all possible, I’m really keen to try and keep any colonial themes out of this) sending any knowledge back to Earth to help humanity improve itself, while trapped on a ship with little to no hope of ever returning, the crew build new lives and relationships slowly develop, will probably be a slice-of-life fic with the space stuff just as a background

Will definitely have alien life, but I’m not sure if I want sentient aliens who’re as developed/more developed than humanity, I’d like to keep this to the more “realistic” end of the genre and the focus to be mainly on the crew and their friendships, but thoughts would be welcome!

Olympic Lesbian Shenanigans – ***

· Pairings: uh, idk actually…… Every Girl x Every Other Girl?

· Loosely based on Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

· Short-mid length fic, modern au/period setting, a pair of girls (leaning towards Ino and Karin but could go any way at this point) end up on a multi-week cruise ship with the Konoha Ladies Olympic Team (which will somehow include any non-Konoha girls too)……. things get very Gay

· Possibly smutty?

· …Probably smutty

· Purely me-pandering ngl

· Oh god what am I doing

Spy AU –

· Pairings: NaruGaa, InoTema, ShikaCho, HinaTen, NejiLee, possible others

· Long fic, plot-focused action thriller, will likely end up exploring dark themes, but also I might change my mind and go for a more fun 70s spy-thriller type vibe (I’m thinking about making Gaa a trans woman in this one but I’m still kinda unsure? Feedback would be welcome)

Sand Sib Fic –

· Possible implied NaruGaa and ShikaTema, but the focus will be on the sibs

· Will probably be similar in style to BTC, following the sand sibs and their relationship as it changes over the years (not sure if I’ll go right from the beginning, or just from the chunin exam arc up to the end of the war arc), going into much more detail about their development since Kishi dgaf about them, especially Gaara’s struggle to change himself after the exams, how and why he got Suna to accept him, Kank and Tem and their very complex relationship with Gaara (and each other) and Gaara’s long recovery from.. y’know. death. I’ll probably diverge from canon in some places (like the Rasa/Gaa reunion during the war)

Samurai AU –

· Pairings: NaruGaa, SakuHina, TemaTen, KibaIno, ChoKarui, possible others

· Similar to SITS but more plot-focused, long fic, historical drama, set in Sengoku era Japan (or more likely a version of the Naruto world based heavily on it), no fantasy elements, might get dark in places, the story will mostly be focusing on Naruto, so it might be split into a series or have short spinoff fics focusing on other characters

Jinchuriki Fic –

· No pairings planned thus far

· Canon-divergent, after the chunin exams, instead of deciding to become Kazekage, Gaara instead wants to be for the other jinchuriki what Naruto was to him, follows the time-skip with Gaara traveling the continent and inadvertently starting a nomadic jinchuriki tribe, will probably be slice-of-life, though I might also just run with the idea and rewrite the whole Naruto plot based on this (and other) changes, for example:

· Temari takes the position of Kazekage and her and Kankuro are taking steps to change their village for the better (they’re in regular contact with Gaara and constantly send letters to his new friends reminding them to make sure he eats)

· Hinata and Neji are both much more active in their goal to destroy their clan’s caste system

· Sasuke returns to Konoha earlier and him and the other rookies do their own investigating into their village’s long history of reprehensible actions

· Cut the entire war arc. All of it.

· Make the conflict less about big grand battles against ultimate evil mcbadguys and more about actually revolutionising the ninja world at its very core

Model AU –

· Possible pairings: NaruGaa, probable others, it’s all very uncertain

· ……. Look idk the idea just won’t leave me alone ok?

Narugaa, based on this post, Naruto trips over at a train station one day and ends up cackling uncontrollably on the floor, even as a cute redhead helps him up, the next day a friend shows him a craigslist ad from someone who helped up a laughing man at the train station and was too shy to ask his name at the time but was hoping that he was alright

Narugaa, based on this post, Naruto lives in the same apartment building as The Most Beautiful Man In The World, unfortunately they only ever cross paths when Naruto happens to have horribly embarrassed himself in some way, meanwhile The Most Beautiful Man In The World has been quietly trying to find excuses to see his cute blond neighbor, who must be really confident to not care about that giant salsa stain down the front of his shirt and wow he wished he could be so free and self-assured

If there’re any fics I’ve spoken about here that you’d really love to see, then do let me know! I can push the stories with more interest to the top of my agenda, keep in mind though, that I won’t be starting anything new until I’ve at least finished ATFC (possibly SITS too) and that my more ambitious fics will require a lot of pre-production before I’m willing to start them – I spent a good six months doing research for SITS – so fics like the spy au and the samurai au will need a lot more time to get started than, say, a college au

As always, I’m open to requests and if anyone has thoughts on anything I’ve already got planned that they’d like to share, then I’m open to chatting! Almost all of these fics (apart from everything in the LTL series) are still very early in development, so things can change a little, or a lot! I reserve the right to reject ideas that I don’t feel comfortable writing/don’t fit my vision, of course, but I’m pretty opened minded about this stuff, so don’t be afraid to gimme a shout

ok, so obkkweek ‘s theme for today si ‘roleswap’. For the fourth time, i still haven’t maanegd to get to the kaakobi part of the prompt. damn.

still that’s. a weird AU. i’m not sure where it’s going, let me brainstorm here a little.

so what happened is that kakashi and obito had reverse reaction to rin’s death. obito went ‘rin said she will always be watching, i will go back to konoha and keep my propmise to be hokage’ (while a part of hil is still howling inside because’ he’s still an uchiha and so he’s always going to have a part of him going ‘this world is fake and i refuse to accept rin’s detah or kakashi’s failure HOW ABOUT AN ETERNAL DREAM - no this is not what rin wanted to see she is always watching me’ and also being worried about kakashi who left the site of her death in tears wth her corpse and hasn’t been seen since)

since he told the whole story to minato, madara’s dead. zetsu escaped, but he needs to try again, and minato heard a few things that don’t make much sense. also he pointed out how suspicious the timing was to obito, and taht certainly helps the whole ‘YES BUT MOON EYE’ thing since he knows madara manipulated him into it.

meanwhile kakashi went ‘this wrold where i live and obito and rin die IS WRONG I WILL CRUSH IT’ his solution is to divide tpeople into two categories: people like him, who deserve death, and people like rin and obito, who deserve to never suffer any hardship and for their own sake should be kept away from the first type of people. to achieve this, he’s now looking for people like him to direct towards otehr people like him and kill them all.

(kakashi is. incredibly loyal. there’s a reason his summons are dogs; kakashi is a great follower and very loyal, and his saving grace is that he’s got top notch taste in people. yes i include obito in that. (one day ‘ill write an au where guy is hokage and kaakshi his adviser. it works great) anyway my point is that he ends up more less creating akatsuki and those are absolutely his teammates and he’s not going to let them die. even if his plans include killing them ll at the end. after all he’s very good at killing friends! this is. not a healthy kakashi AT ALL)

anyway the kyuubi attack? didn’t happen. the uchiha massacre is delayed, maybe avoided. maybe not.

anyway somehow kakashi manage to miss obito’s survival until wave, and taht’s when he goes back to konoha - because those are ninjas near obito. kids? yes maybe. THEY NEED TO BE JUDGED. this is absolutely going to end with danzo’s dead, a confrontation bewteen obito and kakashi, minato is going to be here since he’s not dead.

anyway kaakshi might not be entirely healthy, and has been killing since way too young, but also. i can’t imagine any kakashi in any universe under any circumstances hurting any of sasuke sakura or naruto. despite that he did manage to convince himself to eliminate sasuke in canon. just. i can’t imagine that happening.

anyway since he’s going to konoha post wave he’s here for the chunin exams. this, for now, a mianto lives-no massacre AU, so orochimaru is probably not here? if he wants an uchiha there’s a lot more choices. also maybe he is a memeber of kakashi’s akatsuki. or mayeb kaakshi killed him. or tried to. given how low this kaakshi esteems the value of his survival he probably did not give a fuck if he died if he took orochimaru with him.

ai think nagato ‘let’s hold everyone hostages via overwhelming power’ plan does talk to him. he just has objection to killing jinchuriki if tehre are the good people.

anyway maybe no orochimaru but i’m sure suna can decide to invade without his manipulation, so the gaara arc probably goes teh same way. or tries to! ah no naruto is not a jinchuriki in this au. so this. is going to be A MESS

anyway this kaakshi is taking orochimaru’s place this arc. possibly including the ‘manipulate suna into invading konoha’ part. he’s certainly testing the kids in the forest like oro did.

is he going to turn on his suna allies becuase he decides konoha is better. is he going to start a five-ways shinobi wars to get as many of the killers dead while kidnapping the good ones and stashing them somewhere. he is isn’t he. well he’s always been faster than obito. that’s probably why he gets a war going on three years ahead of schedule.
