Emotional numbing in PTSD is associated with lower amygdala reactivity to pain | Neuropsychopharmacology
I feel like I already knew this. Then again I've been reading studies on CPTSD since like forever.

A cluster of neurons in the brain seem to change their activity after nerve injury, but this change is most pronounced during sleep.

My mom just sent me this and reminded me to get my sleep patterns in order. Between cerebral palsy, fibromyalgia, sensory processing disorder, ADHD, etc, I'm lucky if I know what my body is going to do today.
Husband, describing me to his gaming friends during a discussion in his Red Dead Redemption 2 group about medical marijuana: "See, she's got cerebral palsy, her brain beats up her body before she gets out of bed every day. So she's gonna get tired easily. And then there's all the other stuff, but the palsy is the cornerstone."
Which I also need to remember.

I think the thing that just happened was a seizure. The nature of the seizures changed as soon as I switched to the cannabis regimen last year. My house mates assure me that they're quicker, less scary, with easier recovery. I'm less concerned. It's still annoying.

"When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take your breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weigh out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Did someone break your heart inside? You're in ruins."

Well, I didn't expect to be slapped by my playlist so randomly while writing a fanfic about neurological disabilities and their physiological damages and smack in the middle of a really really difficult caregiver conversation.

Fascia: A Hidden Piece of the Puzzle of Fibromyalgia Pain - Fibromyalgia Resources
-
Accepting the role of fascia to fibromyalgia pain expands our treatment options. Surely pain from the fascia is not the whole story of fibromyalgia pain—a hypersensitive nervous system that over-reacts is also the problem, and we have to look into it. But in my understanding, tautness in the fascia is the flicker that lights the pain fire and needs to be treated in order to have effectual pain relief.
-
Fanfiction research. For, uh, reasons. Beyond just giving my characters fibromyalgia after heavy trauma. Also, this is stuff I really wish I'd known in 2006.

Me, remembering that in the newest chapter of the RP fic I made all the Bay Turtles Autistic and or ADHD:
I must share this on Tumblr!
-
"We're not even certain of reptile neurology regardless," Donnie smiled. "I can't imagine they have migraines for example. We only very recently realized what neurodevelopmental phenomena we all have. Mike with ADHD and Autism, Leo and I autistic, Raph potentially ADHD and an anxiety disorder that may or may not be intermittent explosive disorder."
Raph narrowed his eyes. "It's not that bad."
Don gave him a quiet and level look. "I only interpret data, admittedly with some bias."
Raph just lifted one eyebrow.
-
(Bay Raph's ADHD might be confirmed later anyway as more of a large cluster of related processing disorders depending on where I want to go)

Dear TMNT Fandom,
Remind me, please, who here is autistic and writes Imagines and requests? I have a request for anyone who wants to try in their style.
"What if: Mikey has a nervous breakdown in front of Donnie, who figures out Mikey has had depression for a while. Not to mention ADHD RSD and autistic burnout. Autistic ADHD Reader can be involved in whatever capacity."

My entire bed, all day: Sorry, you can't move. You're clinically depressed, your palsy damaged the tendons in your shoulders, there's bursitis in your hips, and this fibromyalgia flare broke your temperature regulation again. Please stand by for the maintenance crew with the bubblegum. They keep losing the soldering iron.

Re: TMNT Michelangelo having ADHD in canon and being autistic in fanfics.
I found this comment in an ADHD support group, and it describes Mikey perfectly.
"I can often tell by looking at a person that they have ADHD - that they are empathic, that they have high intuiton and are very "imaginative". Sometimes, a photo will catch it, too!"
More and more people in the fandom headcanon Mikey with ADHD, but they don't have to, it's already canon.
I've been nudging Mikey's Autistic traits for years, because Donnie was stereotyped as an autistic nerd since the late 2000s. In 2012, 2003, and 2016, I like to think Leo is also autistic. Rise Raph, too.
There are many ways to be autistic, not just Donatello.
See. As a spectrum we're a Mobius Strip, an Ouroboros, a color wheel, never a line. No mild or severe, no high or low, just varying traits and presentation.
(The autistic advocate community as a whole prefers " is autistic" to "has autism" since we see it as defining and identifying, how our brains are wired. It falls on the individual to say if they prefer Identity First Language or Person First Language.)

"When autistic people ask you to go the extra mile in learning about how we think differently, we're not asking for anything we haven't done for neurotypical people all our lives. It's just that you're the default so you didn't have to ask."
