i've seen actually a few different people/users leave comments or tags about wanting to check out scavenger's reign after seeing my glowing praise of it, but also being very nervous to do so, because they're excited for a lesbian who looks like them (azi), but despite my gushing, i keep mentioning how the show is full of body horror, brutal deaths and characters having a bad time;
this is a very valid concern to have, given how a character like azi might be treated in another show, i was going in with tempered caution as well
Tumblr media
without spoiling too much, you can lay those worries down. the show treats her very well.
if you'd like some more elaboration, i've put it under this readmore!
azi is put into stomach-churningly dire "an alien is about to eat you/do a big big body horror/assimilate you" situations the least of any of the characters, and not even because she's being given a lack of stuff to do/experience in the plot!
i think we only see her get "afflicted" by something the way sam does once, and its very mild compared to everyone else (basically she gets a really bad itchy rash after successfully prying some weird would-be paralytic puffballs that get stuck to her) and even this one instance is quickly resolved by other fauna, in a very nice sequence of scenes that is clearly a healing/relaxing experience for her.
while she is put into danger and is trying to survive like everyone else, she gets tossed about in action setpieces she makes it through with minimal injury, more than enduring The Horrors;
she gets to have better luck because more of her narrative screentime is, by design, already dedicated to emotionally bonding with her robot buddy, levi, as they suddenly and rapidly attain self-awareness, and levi encourages her to find the beauty and harmony in this nightmarish nature documentary they got marooned in.
this helps her lighten up just in time, too, because she is, very understandably, stressed almost to her breaking point by the point the show starts, having one of the better crash landing sites of any of the survivors, and i bet the other survivors all wish they had a robot tagging along to help, but being stranded and lonely and trying to not lose hope of rescue. she misses her girlfriend, and is feeling increasingly vulnerable (negative) and afraid, especially when situations occur where she gets reminded she does need help. azi starts the series being kind of mean to levi, and having to balance her confusion, worry, and then awe of levi's transformation, and let herself accept she does need that help.
azi is not the gruff grr nothing phases me nothing hurts me the writers dont have to try giving me depth i'm just the badass butch who exists to fill the death quota later so a lighter/more fem character can survive;
her vulnerability reveals itself without much fuss, and is eventually tended to both by herself and others. we get flashbacks that show she was naturally introverted, but clearly wanting to overcome that in order to socialize and get closer to someone (girls...)
she goes through it for other reasons, but i promise you, the show treats her very well, i feel. she and levi are probably-nah, definitely, my favorite characters in it, and the show would not have blown me away the way it did without them here
SR has 3 main story threads; Azi and Levi, Sam and Ursula, Kamen and The Hollow. of the three, Azi and Levi's is the heart, and is the most romantic, in multiple senses of the term. i might right a breakdown of what i love most about all three threads? but yeah
now, if you still need the "okay but does she or her gf die" y/n:
.
.
.
.
azi and her girlfriend both survive the events of the show, and reunite in one piece! they may or may not throuple up with the robot.
i sure hope they do.
you can't tease us with scenes like this and Not
Tumblr media
OH: also, when a new antagonist shows up later in the form of a lethally pragmatic blonde woman named Kris who tries to boss azi around, i did get nervous, but Azi soured to max on her and spoke exactly what i hoped was the intent at the exact moment i felt it was critical to avoid me going "hrrmmm don't like these Implications" (the Instant azi detects blondie is trying to haze her into being a new teammate to be bossed around, azi immediately gets rightfully pissed and rejects it, and schemes to get the tagalong kid to see this also and on azi's side in the long run, which plays out and kris gets rapidly shuttled out of the plot and then pretty damn well humbled in the only blatant Sequel Hook present. i Appreciated that. Would have loved to love you Kris I love evil women but then you pulled That Stunt and now you can go wither alone in the corner

ooough its punkitt thoughts on mlp season 5 wow!!
finished season 5 last night! putting Twlight in a position where she couldn't just DBZ laser beam her way out of the villain this time made for a much more thematically resonant resolution with the main baddy. Tirek was completely forgettable because the challenge was mostly just beating the shit out of him; cool animation for sure, but for a show based on its character interactions I think there could have been something a lil deeper. Putting Twilight in a spot where she straight-up cannot brute-force her way through the solution unless she and the villain come to an understanding was a smart choice on the writer's part to avoid that happening this time around.
seeing all those AUs with the apocalypses was kind of crazy and super fan-indulgent but I think after five seasons of normal horse stuff I think you deserve to get kind of wacky and fan-indulgent in some ways? like, yeah, even if it MAY have jumped the shark a lil in this season, there's still a solid 3 seasons of Lauren Faust-type beat stuff and Season 4 and 5 have some of my favorite episodes of the series so far. I get why people hopped ship around this point but as An Adult In My 20s Who Enjoys An Optimistic and Well-Written Cartoon (not the initial target audience) 4 and 5 are more up my alley in terms of situations to slap those equines in. Someone on the staff was DEFINITELY aware of the popularity of fan stories like Fallout Equestria and stuff and you could tell a lot of alternate timelines were mostly made with a "wouldn't that be a cool thing for fans to expand on?" mindset which might be offputting for some but honestly I'm a fan of Kingdom Hearts and One Piece and shit so doing things that are Cool For The Sake Of Cool is far from something i dislike on principle.
I also think that it's silly that folks felt like Starlight shouldn't have been redeemed and instead punished or something! She clearly didn't know what she was doing and, stepping outside the in-universe lore for a moment, this is once again still a show about rainbow horses aimed at kids called Friendship Is Magic. Having someone who caused an entire apocalypse because she had a friendship problem is like, ripe for the picking for Redeeming Their Ass. I felt like that montage of Starlight hanging out did leagues more for me in terms of redeeming a villain than all of Discord's post-redemption episodes combined because it actually showed The Mane 6 being charitable and kind and having fun with Starlight rather than us just being told. That's the power of a montage baby!
Honestly it felt like a series finale, in a sense, even tho I know we're far from that. I love a good wrapping bow on a good season, though, so even if it felt very ending-ish I still think it went out with a bang. good season and im very excited to see where we go next with starlight she's neat :]]]

20 Q's for Fic Writers
I got tagged by @dp-marvel94! Thank you!
1. How many works do you have on Ao3?
I've just posted my 22nd work a few days ago!
2. What's your total Ao3 word count?
37,763
3. What fandoms do you write for?
So far, all my published fics are for Danny Phantom. It's a fandom that's near and dear to my heart and my favorite to write for. I've written fanfiction for myself in a lot of different fandoms over the years. Miraculous Ladybug, Mega Man (Star Force, Battle Network) and Fire Emblem are a few. (Will these ever see the light of day? Probs not, lol)
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?  5. Frayed Ends - 37 kudos - Jazz and Maddie are fighting more often. Jack wants to reach out and help his family. 4. The Same Blood - 45 kudos - Maddie and Jack try to help a sick girl that collapsed in front of their house. They don't know what to make of her condition. Danny wants to help.
3. Returned Home - 49 kudos - Maddie finds Danny at home after he disappeared ten months ago.
2. The Broken Pieces Left Behind - 66 kudos (tie) - Maddie knew what the portal did to Danny. If she could create something that essentially turned him into a ghost, she could figure out a way to fix all of it. Even if she hasn't made any progress in the past two months, she'll keep trying. She didn't account for what Danny wanted. 1 . What's Out of Out Control - 66 kudos (tie) - Danny thought he had it under control. He thought he could finally hang out like they used to always do. Tucker could feel the rift between them widening. It wasn't getting smaller anytime soon.
5. Do you respond to comments?
I try to! There were a few comments from my two earlier fics that I never responded to and it's already been so long and I feel like I ended up putting it off too long to say anything now 😓But I'm so so thankful for all the comments I receive! I never thought anyone would read my work, let alone comment on it. I'm always between two modes of 'author commentary' and 'screaming thank you and running away'.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Lol, I love my angsty stuff and there are so many different flavors of angst, so it's hard to pick just one. I'd say the piece I aimed to write for Angst Fest, The Broken Pieces Left Behind, might be it. It ends on a rather hopeless note for the Fenton family that even I don't know how to make everything better for them
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Home for a Cat. It was for a Ectoberhaunt prompt that I was absolutely stumped on. So I decided someone was going to adopt a cat by the end of the fic.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Ahh, so I actually posted a fic on FFN wayyy back when I was in high school. I remember it being received pretty well but I got a really rude comment on a simple spelling mistake. Back then, I was just told I had dyslexia a few years prior and I had some really bad self-esteem issues tied in with that. So, yeah, that comment basically made me terrified to ever show my work to anyone ever.
It's been over ten years since then and I wanted to actually get over that fear. I impulsively decided to do Angst Fest with the mindset that no one would even look at what I posted. Not only did people look, everyone has been so kind!!!
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
lkdajldkf, nope. I get flustered trying to write basic romance and having two characters hold hands, lmao. Major props to those that can, it's definitely a skill that takes time to master just like any other genre.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I haven't.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Also haven't had this either.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Nope, but it seems like a lot of fun.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
Back when the show was airing, Amethyst Ocean (Danny/Sam) was my go to. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers tropes and it's really nostalgic for me. But, I don't really read a lot of shippy things for Danny Phantom, so ships don't make or break a fic for me.
If I'm looking to read romance, the whole Love Square (MariChat my beloved) with Miraculous Ladybug will always be great. Even if I jumped ship on the show around season 2 or 3 and I have no clue what they're doing now, lol.
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I honestly have so many WIPs that are unfinished on my computer from over the years. Maybe a super old one that I titled 'Phantoms in the Daylight'. Angst once more with Character Death as the main pain point. I like the beginning but oh boy, does it get sloppy and confusing real quick. I'd need serious outlining energy put into it if I'd ever want to salvage it and I just don't have it in me.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue! Give me two blorbos and I'll make them talk forever.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Scenery and description. I love the dialogue portion so much that I end up running into the floating heads in an empty room problem in the first drafts of my fics. My first round of edits are dedicated to making sure I have a scene and grounding characters into it. And then I have to go back later to make it not feel so robotic sounding.
(Also a weakness but more as in fic than writing. Summaries and Titles. I stare at my drafts on AO3's editor for at least half an hour trying to pull something together, lol)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I can probably talk about this for hours, lol. I absolutely love foreign languages, especially when it comes to linguistics. So, I'll try to be brief, lmao. Short answer: depends on the fic but normally no. I already spend so much time fussing over the word choice/slang/formality/dialect characters use in my native language. I don't have a good enough grasp on another language for it to sound natural to the reader. ("They would not fucking say that" is my internal monologue during dialogue edits, lol)
19. First fandom you wrote for?
It's a toss up between Pokemon and Danny Phantom. I first learned about fanfiction from a friend who showed me FFN for the Pokemon fics. I looked around the site and found all of the Danny Phantom fics soon after and got hooked on those. I started writing around then and it would have been for one of those two.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Hard to chose one! Writing technicality wise, I'm proud of how What Remains on the Table turned out. I consider description my weak point, so the original draft was 0 dialogue with very stiff descriptions. I was able to edit it to really practice my environmental storytelling. (Although, please mind the tags if you click the link as it does deal with the dissection topic)
I'm not sure who's been tagged and I'm not sure who writes fanfic, so @lavendarlily, @fangirlwriting-stories, @grub-xd, @nanaarchy and anyone else that wants to join!

user elekinetic do you have any tips to spare for outlining fics 😭 i feel like I word vomit any of the concept that I have in my head, and dialogue ,and build off that adding paragraphs as I go and I go so slow bc of it. But ive been trying hard lately to write a list of “scenes” and bullet point the story but yeah.
do you know anything that could help me have an idea of where to go start to finish instead of starting at the random spot I’ve come up with first? I waste so much writing time because I haven’t built a backstory for characters and things like that so i don’t always know how they start the story off, only the situation they’re in. Is that something that could help? Making a list for each character or something? Would love to hear your thoughts thank you! <3
hi! first of all i’m so flattered you asked! to be clear, i am a very slow writer too lmao and i’m relatively new to prose writing, and though in very confident in my understanding of what makes a good story (W screenwriting), i am still figuring out my outlining process. but hey! let’s learn together.
sorry in advance for how long this is. i love talking.
so i basically figure everything out in the outline and write after i feel very good about it. if you have a strong foundation, everything gets a hell of a lot easier. t kind of sounds like your process might be similar to mine, so i’m just gonna explain what i'm doing for my current project.
my key document is my “bible.” i split it up into a couple different sections using page breaks (page breaks my best friend ily page breaks):
pitch/word vomit summary
scene ideas
outline
notes
ok so wtf does that mean.
1. pitch/word vomit summary — explain your concept. bc i've got a film/tv background, im starting off with my logline. (e.g. "after robin learns will is gay, they have a heart to heart in an abandoned video store about insecurity and feeling alone. they learn they're not." sometimes i'll follow that up with a note to myself like, "this fic isn't robin finding out, this is what happens after. starts with her already knowing. will pov, focus on his perception of robin changing. subtly reference toward feelings about mike, dont come out (haha) and say it") then, i write as MUCH of the concept down as i can, like i'm explaining it to a friend. (sometimes i copy and paste rants from dms directly into the document). it can be totally out of order, non-sensical, contradictory. just get as many of your ideas down as possible. you want to be able to come back to this and be like, oh i totally forgot about that. vague chapter summaries, personal notes about themes, whatever you want. i have a list of beats that you find in romantic dramas for inspiration and a paragraph abt ways i want to parallel/subvert s3 of st. just. go ham. 2. scene ideas — this is pretty self explanatory. i take some of the stuff i have in the p/s and flesh it out, or put down new ideas. this is where i'm writing out dialogue in bullet points, or what i want them to be Really Saying. (e.g. "mike: [panics bc he feels seen, tries to flip it back on (redacted) and fails] ") this is for when i can see stuff more clearly or i get out of the shower with a whole exchange in my head. gonna be out of order, a little all over the place. 3. outline — so. this is where you start piecing it together. put the bullet points in order. figure out objective of each scene and what needs to happen to accomplish that goal. figure out pacing, what needs to happen when. this step is where im looking at dialogue and thinking "why does mike say that? why does he feel that way? what needs to happen to get him to this point emotionally?" or looking at scenes and thinking "these are two scenes with people arguing back to back. lets make sure they feel different and give the characters different tactics to get what they want (byler argument where mike is avoiding will vs max argument where max is avoiding lucas. i could use this to highlight similarities and differences in the relationships, but having two scenes with the same tactics back to back might feel repetitive. maybe i move the scenes farther apart or change circumstances. maybe mike and will are having a veiled argument while theyre with a group of friends in a public space and max and lucas' argument is outside max's house.) also asking if conflicts are resolved too quickly, if the miscommunications feel too convenient, if characters disappear or are only around as plot devices. write. troubleshoot. repeat. 4. random notes — everything else that doesnt fit. for me this is literally just taylor swift lyrics (writing the fic vaguely off of a Specific Song that SHOULD BE STREAMED MORE WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE anyway) and links to posts i use as character reference to make sure im staying true to the characters. (remembering will said "i was being a total jerk to el, i deserved it," AND "you're ruining everything, and for what!"/"i wasn't moping!")
i want it to be clear im doing all of this at the same time. im jumping around and pulling new ideas and rearranging as stuff changes. i think the thing that's really hard is that i want to be able to sit down, write the outline, and then move on. but for us scatterbrained writers, you're gonna have to re-outline and readjust like. a thousand times. and that's okay. that's good! it feels tedious as hell but the story is so much better for it.
take your time. let yourself be slow. keep finding holes in your story and fill the world in as you fix them.
here are some more questions i ask myself to make the story better:
What are you trying to accomplish over the course of the story? What is it about? (for the will&robin fic, it was something about feeling seen for the first time.) When you get lost in your story or aren't sure why a scene feels stale, come back to this. is the scene furthering that goal?
What is changing internally for each of your main characters? (yes theyre dating by the end but like. what do they learn.)
Are the side characters people or props? (will pov scene of a party-wide picnic where everyone's talking but will is focused on mike's hands.... where is max's head at in the scene? you don't have to have a super long backstory and she doesn't have to be a big part of the plot, but if she's saying something, figure out why she's saying it. if will is having a heart to heart with el, understand why el is responding the way she is. the scene's goal may be to get will through a breakthrough, but el's circumstances will change in the scene too. figure out how this conversation lands with her. oh, and remember the adults are people too!)
Why is this character saying this/why are they responding this way? (this should answer your "where do i start?" question. start in that random spot and figure out A) why they are there and B) why they are reacting the way they do (see last bullet point).
side note: some of the best advice i ever got was "enter the scene late, exit early." skip the prologue. try starting from that random spot. if it feels like something's missing, figure out exactly what that something is, and go from there
Do the stakes feel high enough?
What do i need to set up to make sure this scene/beat is satisfying as possible? (are will and mike going to have a big argument? oh, so we have to show tension before.... BAM you have another scene to write and your outline is fuller)
i could go on a lot longer but. basically.
i edit while i write. i'm someone who needs a very fucking strong outline and a very fucking clear idea of the story before i can start writing it. i'm putting probably 70-80% of the leg work in at the start so i can focus on making the prose (or script, most of the time) the best it can be.
THAT BEING SAID, this is just the way i do it and i have like. a fic and a half published. im taking my sweet time bc im creatively burned out and this is for fun first and foremost. like i said. i am a Very Slow Writer.
i highly, highly recommend hitting up the ask boxes of writers like @/strangeswift, @/wiseatom, @/astrobei, or @/andiwriteordie. no guarantees on responses bc they are busy ppl with busy lives but i really do think theyre some of the best writers out here right now, and im not just saying that bc they're my friends. abby (strangeswift) and i have been each other's sounding board through a lot of projects and she's almost done with one of her first Big Fics, so its worth asking her about that.
i hope this helps! ah!!

Hi! You seem quite knowledgeable in this, so I though you might be the right person to ask: I'm trying to find some nice heart pirates fics with them as family doing shenanigans/general stuff. Most of the fics I've found in the Heart Pirates tag in ao3 revolve around a ship involving law and the hearts are just background characters who barely do anything, which isn't what I'm looking for. Do you have any recommendations? (I've already read some of your works, but if you want to recommend those that's good too!)
Platonic Heart Pirates Fics Rec List
Wow! huge compliment.
Yeah, I wouldn't classify myself as a Hearts Pirates writer, but I do write them. I think my best characterisations of them are in my multi-chaptered works, but they're super dark, and the Hearts aren't the focus (but boy do they shine when they get the chance!).
You've probably come across my Bepo's one shots and drabble collection. There's a few shippy pieces in there, but they're clearly marked. Most are just the crew, although focus on the main four. This was also done for the Hearts' Pirates Week, so covers all named crew members (up to that point). This one shot is surprisingly popular: Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On), and you might have come across the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates crews intermingling in this fic featuring Bepo and Chopper. I'm also guessing that you probably saw the piece I wrote for the op summer festival zine: Sun Path Ozoni. An earlier version of that is in Bepo's collection! There's also Bepo's Beptober, which features everyone, but I wouldn't really say explores them in depth!
Okay, RECS!
Any of the fics with the Hearts Pirate tag by @op-sheepy Here's a link to their AO3 dash. There are quite a few Heart Pirate drabbles on their tumblr page too.
@itsxandy 's work, stormy weather, is criminally under-read. That's 22,2221 amazing words on Law's dynamic with the crew in the polar tang in close quarters. Not necessarily happy families, but, oof, it's good. Even a very plausible theory put forward for the recruitment of Clione, I think! Or maybe Uni.
Dragon_in_a_Cypress_swamp has 6 amazing Hearts & Trafalgar Law fics too. Really good (I haven't read all, but what I have read just blows me away).
This is not a place of honor by Hyperbolic Reverie (I'm not guaranteeing that all the fics are sweet). And you've probably come across
the devil knows how to row by fab_ia, is set in Law Novel land, but with flashbacks to Law's time with the Donquixote Family. It's a work in progress. But very good. The author is keats on twitter, and I think one of the guest writers for the up coming Hearts zine. Their AO3 actually has a few Hearts' fics I want to pick through.
Dunno if this counts, but the Scrubs AU with Penguin and Shachi as Law's interns, and Bepo as a trusty nurse is both hilarious and poignant. @thegrimshapeofyoursmile
Cal14's recently been uploading some of their tumblr pieces.
@slashseeker (not getting their blog come up) has some platonic stuff on their AO3 page (their slash is pretty good too though!).
And that's about all I know for now. I'm sure you've read / been pointed towards the big collection: Tales from the Heart.
Almost forgot! If you go through @purplehairedwonder 's page, towards the start of beginning to write OP (so second page), there are about 5 fics that I'd classify as Heart centric, or the Hearts seen through Law's eyes. Not necessarily shenanigans though.
It is a ship fic, and it started before a lot of the Heart Pirates were named, but razbliuto's Methyl Nitrate Pirates really builds character and crew (and it's funny). @fablecore
Hope it helps! Sorry to anyone I've forgotten. Thanks for the ask! Let me know how they go.
Remember all, drop a kudos and comment if the fics strike your fancy❤️ Makes a Heart Pirates Heart loving Heart beat heartier.

Tumblr media
Still poking my way very slowly through Act 1 of BG3 with my half-elf pally girl, Aravyn, and just had the best series of quests/encounters that hit me a little in the feels.
So, long long ago, when WotC was starting to play test 5e, I started to attend some D&D Encounter sessions at a local comic/game shop, where we'd use some random pre-rolled character sheets to play. And I got handed the following:
Tumblr media
This randomized Paladin who, for some reason, was also a wandering minstrel. I got to play her for all of one session, and unfortunately never was able to attend any more sessions (for reasons). Yet this yodeling Paladin has lived rent-free in my head for years, but had never found a group to play with in the years following.
So when I realized that I might be able to bring a version of her to life in BG3, I leapt on the chance and gave her the Entertainer background, and despaired a little that I couldn't multiclass her into Bard in Explorer Mode (although there is a mod for that).
I found a lute on the beach, played it very badly in camp and got yelled at by Lae'zel for it. And then, I wandered a little bit outside of the Druid's camp, to find a Tiefling bard singing so badly a bunch of squirrels were wailing with despair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Having failed so spectacularly in serenading the camp, it would have been smart for poor Aravyn to just talk her way through this encounter. But here she was, being offered a lute and a chance to inspire someone with music.
And she knocked it out of the park -- being gifted the lute of the bard's deceased lover mentor as thanks for helping her break out of writer's block. (I mean, I get it. I feel that pain Alfira)
Tumblr media
Mood™
Right afterwards, because I refuse to take a long rest while still full up on spell slots, I kept the party exploring, and encountered the harpy ambush at the beach. And we died. A lot. Especially in a frontal assault. So finally as a last ditch effort before having to put off saving the tiny child being lured in as a harpy snack for a better leveled party, I just had Aravyn sneak up behind and yeet herself from the harpy nest straight at the beasty ladies on the rock where they were hiding.
As you do.
Anyway, Shadowheart joined her, because what else should a healer do but leap into the fray and harm's way? (there was no way this was going to work, so what did I have to lose but my pride, I told myself) And as both holy ladies started swinging away wildly while the warlock and wizard looked on from above, I found myself wishing I really had some levels in bard in order to use countersong* to nullify the crooning harpy below slowly luring a little tiefling child to his doom.
After exhausting all actions and bonus actions, and since I had Lihala's lute already equipped with nothing else to do in between rounds I was like "...fuck it, we rock", and started blasting a song.
My Paladin, apparently, while fighting a bunch of harpies.
Tumblr media
And I don't know if it was just a quirk of the dice rolls, but it worked. On his next round, the tiefling child immediately was able to break free of the song, which was the first time that had happened in all five tries and started running the fuck away. And I was like "...wait what?" and so after kicking ass on the next round, played again. And he was able to resist again and kept running further away while the harpies were distracted tearing the party to pieces.
No one in the party got charmed while Aravyn was playing her heart out, and by guzzling a lot of healing potions, they were able to just manage to squeak out a win. Bloodied and burning through all of their spell slots, they were victorious.
Uh, so yeah. Apparently I unintentionally recreated the end of season 4 of Stranger Things (with less tragedy!), and saved a little kid with the power of rock and roll while using the lute of slain bard. And damn, if that's not a true D&D experience I don't know what is. So I think it's safe to say that Larian has been able to somewhat recapture some of that lightning in a bottle feeling of playing a tabletop RPG in this game.
(even if that was all luck of dice rolls and playing the lute did nothing, I'm headcanoning Ari was channeling Lihala's spirit, because that's a far better story)

hi! i was wondering if you have any favorite novels or pieces of writing of all time?
yeah!!! i fucking love reading!! im sorry this got really long!!
the wheel of time series - this gets a mention for being THE fantasy series that made me go "oh my god, i want to write fantasy. i wanna write fantasy books so bad" the thing I will say about this series is that its not good. right? like its 14 books and it could have been maybe 10, 6 if we're being honest with ourselves. robert jordan cannot write women and it's cringe to read them, but i loved.....rand al'thor (the main character) so much it made me cry LMAOOOO i loved him with my whole tiny childish heart, i was convinced he was THE best main character of all time. its why my own oc, xavier is a tall red head with anger issues LOL
that being said, for some better fantasy
highly recommend 'the broken earth trilogy' by nk jemisin. one of THE best modern day writers i think i've ever come across. the first book in that series was so devastatingly good it ruined first books in series for me. like nothing lives up to that. but i will say look up trigger warnings for her work, that series is VERY dark and emotional but my god...some of the best writing i've ever read.
'the greenbone saga' by fonda lee is another urban fantasy series that i recommend to nearly everyone who comes near me. it has the LITERAL definition of morally grey characters and you genuinely do not know who you're rooting for sometimes in that series. the writing is fucking fantastic and the characters are like ingrained into my brain matter.
a horror novel i highly recommend is "the only good indians" by stephen graham jones. this had a scene in it that is so terrifying, so deeply horrific and brutal and unnerving and scary that i literally closed the book, put my hands over my mouth and stood up IRL LMAOOOOOOO i was so fucking stunned and terrified by what the author had written it was....impactful. fantastic read. cannot recommend highly enough.
'bunny' by mona awad is another favorite book of mine and a NECESSITY for everyone who has entrenched themselves into 'pretentious writing circles' LMAO i unfortunately relate to the main character a little too much. absolutely insane novel, though and a lot of people have mixed feelings on it
i have only read the first book in the locked tomb series by tamsyn muir, but gideon the ninth is one of my favorite books of all time. like the main character, gideon, lives inside me. i have read and annotated that book to the fucking death of its spine.
and since you said "writing" and not JUST novels, this lighthouse fic by my bff unknownangels is fucking amazing and i cannot recommend it enough
and THIS fic by them is also OVERWHELMINGLY fucking good
AHHH thank you for asking anon. i love talking about books so much.

LONG RANT: You can't fix Yandere Simulator. Let it die
Yeah there's no beating around the bush here. Everyone know what happened. Alex is a groomer. If this is your first time hearing about this, look Yandere Dev up for two minutes and you'll be up to date.
And yaddada I am feeling a lot of emotions, mostly anger and a shred of disappointment watching the thinnest sliver of hope I had for this game die. I'm guessing about 20k of you feel something similar, that or you're enjoying watching the shitshow unravel.
I guess if you've been on this subreddit, or twitter, or tumblr, you probably know what my title is referring to. For almost ten years now, Yandere Dev would get into a controversy and the fucked up aspects of his game are exposed and fanartists and writers and devs take it as an opportunity to 'fix' Yandere simulator. The most notable example I can think of is Love Letter from 2020 I think. It's a good idea in theory, literally separating the art from the artist by recreating his concept without the problematic stuff. There was a time when I agreed with this idea and even wanted to do something similar on my own.
But now with Alex's practically confirmed abuse, this concept I guess is leaving a bitter taste in my mouth, It has for a long time, but now I think It's time to address the concept of 'fixing' Yandere Simulator.
For starters, I believe it has gotten to the point where you can't separate the art from the artist with Yandere Simulator. Not after this. And I don't wanna get into an hour long discussion about how that works, but Yandere Simulator is different because the source material was never good in the first place. It was something people were *following in hopes of getting good*. So when fixing the game, the question isn't really what you should repair, (assuming you are up to date on Yandere Dev's controversies) but what you should even bother keeping. It's like trying to redesign a building accidentally built to make sure tall people can't get in. Yeah you can redesign the doors and the rooms, but when does it get to the point where you have to throw out the building and start from scratch. That's the problem with Yandere Simulator. It's not one or two flaws. It's basically the entire concept. It's this murder borderline porn game centered around Yandere Dev's barely disguised fetishes about an inaccurately portrayed underaged person with some mental illness killing other schoolchildren (and pedos, accidentally based Ayano???) for a mediocre audience self-insert where you have to take panty shots to get information and all the people your killing are offbrand anime characters and everyone's name is bad Japanese and, well you're in this subreddit, you know all the problems with Yandere Simulator. Putting heart clips in Ayano's hair or making Taro hot or Amai chubby or give Osana freckles and make the teachers minors or making any of the character different races blah blah blah, that doesn't actually change anything systemically wrong with the game, story, and concept. It's putting frosting on a moldy boot
(btw, I'm not actually against the Yandere Archetype. You can write problematic stuff so long as you give it respect. But this is part of a bigger issue.)
So You could remove all of that, but at what point are you just, making other piece of Yandere Simulator that has loose inspirational ties. Not that there is anything wrong with that--It's actually a good idea--but you can't reasonably say that you've 'fixed' Yandere Simulator after throwing out 70% of it. Yes, it may be true, but It's not good writing criticism when you're erasing the core of what make Yandere Simulator Yandere Simulator. Yandere Simulator is an anime fetish amalgamation made up of what Alex likes taking place in a pseudo-dating sim world gone wrong where sexy murder stuff happens. Once you start to remove that, you're removing its (admittedly cringe) soul. Not to mention, comparing some of the content in the game to his abuse, it gives the game itself a bitter taste. Is this something that you really want to reform? Is this something that *should* be reformed?
It's always "When will someone finally recreate Yandere Simulator" and not "Why should anyone recreate Yandere Simulator."
Additionally, whether you like it or not, when you keep posting fanart and rewrites and advertising your fangame as 'inspired' by Yandere Dev. You are giving him attention and free advertising. Even if you put 'Yandere Dev fans DNI' in your bio. I promise that all this time you are trying to spend 'fixing' this horrible game made by an abuser, you could be spending so much of that time making fanart for actual indie projects who deserve your attention who could use that exposure to grow or maintain a community.
And getting to the elephant in the room when it comes to people 'fixing' Yandere Simulator. It's no secret that Yandere simulator fangames fail. Paper Will made a good video on this but oh boy do they fail hard. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRLCsWhiNTc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRLCsWhiNTc). But I don't think It's a curse problem--even though that theory is funny. Talking about why they fail outside a game perspective (young inexperience devs, reliant on volunteers, biting off more than they can chew, unrealistic expectations, drama etc.) Devoting years of your life to something you hate isn't sustainable. And most of these games DON'T last years, they last months. Because spite is a spice, it's awesome, hot, everyone loves it. But you can't serve a meal with spice alone. Making as something as difficult as a game out of spite is an absolute loaded task that requires the stamina of a God to achieve. And if you're thinking about doing this as an after school hobby. You're gonna get burned out fast. I don't have any data on this, but even though I don't do coding. Creating a project out of hate is so exhausting, because It just doesn't work as that good of a motivator down the line. Just investing all this time, resources and energy into constant hate, and to prove what? That you're better than possibly one of the worst indie game devs of the century? Who do you need to prove it to?
The heart of all art is love, love for something. Even satire and art made to criticize has love for something, even if it's just itself and the joke It's trying to tell or for the message It's trying to send. And spite isn't the worst motivator as long as it's not the *only* motivator. And that's really what these "Fan" (word used incredibly loosely) games fail at their most basic mechanics. It's not actually made for love for the source material, but to one up it and make a point, and the entire concept collapses in on itself.
And to finally addess why I made this post. Responding to Alex's grooming by posting about how you can 'fix' the story of his game and redesigning/claiming characters and stuff is downright insulting and inappropriate. Not every Yandere Simulator fixer does this so I'm not trying to lump everyone together. There was a time when Yandere Dev would do something embarrassing or whatever and posting about how his ideas could be fixed was insightful, but as a response to this situation, It's just bad. People are hurt, and making this about you and how you can redeisgn or rework the game is clout chasey and tone death. Please don't use grooming to one-up Yandere Dev for whatever reason. Nobody wants that. Not the victims, not the former staff and volunteers. Nobody. Just keep it to yourself.
I honestly am just tired. I hope anything I just said is even somewhat comprehensible. But if you as someone who thinks they can fix yandere simulator takes away anything from this, It's to just make your own original stuff. Enough with the fangames and redesigns towards a person who does not deserve even a spec of your effort. Stop giving this guy more publicity and trying to revive this dead horse that is Yandere Simulator. If you still like aspects of the game I beg you to just make your own yandere themed piece of media, webcomic, book, game whatever separate from yandere simulator. Post your ORIGINAL characters that are yours and not reskinned versions of whatever Alex made. And let's just let this goddamn game from by a groomer die. Don't try to fix it, don't touch it. Just give it the sad death it deserves.
Please.
Fuck.

writing.
things i've learned throughout the years
speaking from personal experience, writing, whether it's for a fic or an original work, is a process that comes to everyone very differently. which is also why it took me a WHILE to figure out what worked for me.
you've definitely heard this one before, but: 1. do not worry about making your first draft perfect. it will seem terrible, and that's ok.
it's the most common writing advice i've always heard as well, and i always understood what it meant, logically, but it was a piece of advice that was very hard to follow.
the second i gave myself permission to suck, though – the moment i said "i'm going to write trash," is when everything started flowing so much more easily.
it helps IMMENSELY to just push ahead and write whatever comes to you in the moment. do not start searching up synonyms. (yeah, i see you) and if you hate a word or phrase, put a *** next to it and come back later. chances are, you'll change your mind after seeing it from a new perspective, or be able to come up with something to replace it with.
it's always easier to edit than write from scratch, so give yourself material you can edit.
2. write for yourself. write what you love – what you would read.
it definitely draws people in more than any formula you think works or a piece you deliberately craft for a specific audience.
3. as long as your writing is comprehensible, grammar means little in front of the emotion your work conveys
i've read so many works that have left such a profound effect on me, solely because i could feel the amount of heart the author poured into it, it's always easy to look past minor mistakes, as long as what the writer says makes sense.
4. most importantly, when you're starting on that path of developing your writing skills, don't show your work to anybody. hear me out:
i've written about seven stories (for various fandoms) that will never see the light of day – not because i dislike them, but because i now realize, i had to write them for me.
and these stories (and the evident progress in my storytelling skils across all of them) are what give me the most confidence when i doubt my skills.
you can always share your works in the future, but the first couple of times you venture out with a vision in mind, make yourself your audience, it prevents you from diluting your ideas with expectations of other people's perceptions.
+ and finally, a bonus point:
a lot of the writing process, is just discovering yourself, in various ways
i always used to hear writers say:
"my characters did this on their own" or "the story just wrote itself like this"
and i never understood, because MY characters never did anything of their volition, in fact, they refused to do what i intended for them to and it would be a struggle to write a scene sometimes
and again recently i had that same problem, where i couldn't for the life of me, figure out how to describe a character performing a particular action. i waited for days for any sort of inspiration or logic to strike me, but it wasn't working.
i surprised even myself though, when i highlighted the whole section and deleted it.
but as soon as i let go of writing that one scene the way i'd planned it, a completely new option presented itself, and writing THAT scene was so much easier.
so no. my characters never tell me what to do, but they tell me what they don't want to do, and the realization that common experiences in writing will manifest differently in different people, really made me realize that writing is something you should follow your instincts in.
technicality-wise, you will always keep learning and improving. growth never stops.
so it's important to do what feels true to you, and do it in a way that makes YOU feel comfortable, whether that includes taking risks, being spontaneous, or starting small.
that's when some of the best things are created.

You can based it off the entire series or just a episode. Can you also make it fluffy and suggestive too? Thanks! 😊

Also I will never get over episode 6 of this show. How fucking dare this writer play with my heart like that? So many tears. So so many.
Tumblr media
You couldn’t help but be on edge in the unfamiliar house, even if you had been staying there for a few days now. Having grown up in and known nothing but poverty, you felt out of place and uncomfortable in the lavish home despite Mr. Choi’s constant reassurances that there was nothing for you to worry about and that it was his call to the doors to his home for you and Geonwoo’s mother after the incident.
A part of you couldn’t help but feel guilty about being the reason why the two of you had been attacked at their home in the first place. It hadn’t been long since you’d moved in with your boyfriend and his mom after having struggled to pay the rent for your small apartment due to being let go in the midst of the pandemic. You honestly thought that it was Geonwoo at the front door not remembering the passcode to the door for whatever reason - apart from being intoxicated, he never drank under any circumstances. If only you hadn’t opened the door that night, you could both be in the comfort of your own space. If only you had put up more of a fight that night maybe then none of this would be happening.
But it was happening. It had happened and there was nothing anyone could do to change it. Not even the drinks that were being passed around were helping with that. Geonwoo got up from beside you helping a very drunk Woojin up from the couch and taking him to his room promising to be back in no time. Yangjung and Dooyoung got up as well heading outside presumably for a smoke given the shoving and patting of their hands in their respective pockets, the latter being slightly more tipsy than the former.
You weren’t necessarily in the loop of whatever it was that had taken place for them to decide to celebrate with so much alcohol, but you had been awake and sitting in the kitchen waiting for them to arrive and were very much relieved to see all of them in one piece - especially Geonwoo.
“You should get some rest too,” Mr. Choi suggested warmly. “He’s here safe and sound and nothing’s going to happen to him.”
The old man had picked up on your constant worry for the young boxer. Not that he could blame you for it. Despite being more than capable of standing his ground, he had a soft heart and could sometimes be too kindhearted for his own good.
“Will you be alright on your own down here?” you asked, not wanting to leave him alone in case he needed something but wasn’t able to get it.
“I’ll be fine. I doubt it’ll be long before Geonwoo or one of the other two comes back anyhow. Go get some sleep.”
You nodded getting up and heading upstairs running into your boyfriend just as he was closing the door to his mother’s room. He smiled softly as he noticed you, instantly pulling you into a strong embrace which you returned. Both of your bodies seemed to relax in each other's arms, relishing in the moment the two of you got all to yourselves.
“Are you heading off to bed?” he asked quietly, not pulling away from you just yet.
You nodded your head against his chest listening to the steady rhythm of his heart, “Apparently I’m not as good at hiding my fatigue as I thought I was.”
“You were never really good at that.”
You lightly smacked his back, earning a soft laugh as he pulled away, walking you to your room but not going into it. Wishing you a goodnight, he pressed a loving kiss to your forehead, only walking away once you closed the door after doing the same - except you only managed a kiss to his cheek due to the height difference. Once you laid down on the lush mattress you were out within ten minutes, getting a goodnight’s rest for the first time in a while.
~~~
A soft knock to your door rustles you from your slumber before Geonwoo’s voice fills your ears, “Breakfast is ready downstairs in the kitchen. Hyunjoo and I are going to take Mom to the orphanage so we’ll be gone for about an hour. Woojin is still asleep and Yangjung just left, but Mr. Choi is awake and in his room, I think.” You mumbled something even you couldn’t comprehend turning over earning a soft chuckle from him as he neared bending down to press a kiss to your cheek, “I’ll take you to the train station so you can head to hospital in the countryside when we get back.”
Your eyes opened and your mind began working. That’s right. While his mom was going to the orphanage until everything got resolved you were going to a hospital Mr. Choi regularly donated to. He thought it’d be safe if the two of you were at different places to throw Myeonggil’s men off. While the orphanage was only an hour drive away, the hospital was even further away, making it illogical to simply drive you there and back, regardless of how much safer it would be to do so.
“Make sure you eat before I get back,” he said before leaving, closing the door as softly as he could.
You didn’t linger in bed for long before getting up and washing up quickly, packing the few things you had into a duffle bag and taking it with you to the living room, dropping it next to the doorway before making your way back to the kitchen. Woojin was also up by now eating happily as the soup that had been left for you helped with his hangover.
“I thought you said you were a good drinker,” you joked sitting across from him back to the windows.
“I am,” he defended. “I just-” His eyes widened as he looked past you and out the window near the sink. You turned to look at whatever it was that had caught his eye not seeing anything - or rather not being tall enough to see anything from where you were sitting. “Come with me. Now.” he stood up quickly, grabbing your arm as best as he could and dragging you with him to Mr. Choi’s room, closing the sliding door as quietly as possible.
“Kim Myeonggil’s thugs are here!” Woojin rushed out as he knelt beside the old man.
Mr. Choi looked as equally perplexed as you did before pulling out his phone and opening up the live security feed around the house revealing all of the men surrounding the home and main gate entrance. “Let’s go to the basement. There’s a gun.”
Woojin nodded, going back to the door and opening it as you pushed the wheelchair as quickly as you could without making much noise. It was no use because as soon as the three of you exited the room windows were being broken giving the thugs a chance to open the doors and enter the house.
“I’ll stay behind. Hurry and get the gun,” Woojin ordered as he rushed to get a chair, beginning to fend off some of the men to buy the two of you some time.
You put the wheelchair on the elevator sending Mr. Choi, down before moving to take the stairs only to rush back as the large windows near the elevator were shattered, glass flying everywhere. The men rushed at you blocking the path to the stairs and forcing you to walk backwards in order to keep some distance between you and them. Woojin came up behind you wielding a metal bat and swinging it but not landing a single hit at any of them.
“Go to a room!” he ordered but you couldn’t as the men formed a semicircle, cornering you next to the elevator without anywhere to go but down.
Noticing your situation, Woojin finally attacked, keeping himself between you and the thugs at all times in order to try and clear a path for at least you to get out of there and hide somewhere. A man larger than the rest came forward throwing a chair at the two of you as you stuck next to the railing. Woojin pushed you towards the kitchen entryway - as it was now free of any men urging you to run - before being kicked in the jaw by another man as he went to stand up to buy you time. All of the men turned their attention to the basement rushing down the stairs with gunshots beginning to ring.
Despite the constant yells from Woojin for you to run, you didn’t. You couldn’t leave him there alone to fight the guy even if he was a boxer. You wouldn’t be able to live with the guilt of knowing you could help but didn’t. You attacked the man from behind with a broken chair leg, the force strong enough to turn his attention away from Woojin but not knock him out. It was, however, enough for Woojin to get a number of hits in, before he was put in a choke hold by his opponent. His legs were wrapped for Woojin’s, but the boxer was able to strike him in his side repeatedly whilst you attempted to help him by prying at his arms, completely oblivious to the knife attached to his belt until it was too late and it stabbed into your side over and over again, sending you into shock as you were shoved off of him.
Your eyes remained on the scene before you watched as the same knife that had just wounded you was repeatedly forced into Woojin’s body before he too was thrown aside, eyes hazed over and looking up at the ceiling. You were fading in and out of consciousness struggling to stay awake, finally losing the battle. All you heard was Mr. Choi yelling both of your names over and over again before more shots rang out, followed by complete silence and darkness.
~~~
Geonwoo and Hyunjoo rushed into the house from different entry points, the former yelling both of your names as he entered from the back. He was quick to spot both of your bodies laying in the kitchen in puddles of your mixed blood. Clothing stained and soaked in the thick, red, metallic smelling liquid. Your body was closest to him, and he picked you up, struggling with the dead weight of your body to get you out of the house. Laying your body on the grass he rushed back to get Woojin struggling even more and practically dropping him beside you. He pressed his face near his friend’s, managing to feel soft, faint breaths leaving him. His hands pressed down onto his stomach as more blood spilled out, leaning over to see if you were breathing or not, feeling his heart break as the slow and even fainter breaths left your body.
He yelled over and over for Hyunjoo not wanting to leave either of you lest you both lose even more blood than you already had or stop breathing completely. She didn’t come and he was forced to leave the two of you, hoping you would still be alive when he came back as he went back inside looking for Hyunjoo and forcefully ripping her away from Mr. Choi’s broken and bloodied dead body before she too died there.
~~~
The force with which Geonwoo was trying to get the blood out of his jacket was immense. Giving up he rushed back out to the waiting room seeing a nurse speaking to Hyunjoo who was having a complete breakdown not being able to get words out of her lips.
“There’s not enough blood for them!” she sobbed out.
The nurse asked for his blood type before whisking him away to take some from but not before he reassured the sobbing girl who had just lost the only person she’d considered family and was close to losing two more that he would save both of you, no matter what it took.
“Is it enough for both of them?” Geonwoo asked as the nurse removed the needle from his arm after two bags were filled.
“No,” she replied. “We’ll need a couple more for each of them.”
“Let me fill up another one.”
The nurse looked at Geonwoo stoically, “We already took 320ml. If we take any more it’ll be dangerous for you.”
“I’m alright. I’m a boxer. It’ll take more than this to kill me.”
The nurse shook her head, reaching to remove the elastic band from his arm, stopping when he grabbed her arm, “Please I have to save them,” he cried out. “Please let me fill up another one. Please!” The nurse was conflicted seeing the agony the young man was in, but knowing that she couldn’t allow him to give any more lest he also end up in a similar state as his friend and girlfriend - sans stab wounds.
“You should eat these,” she said after having removed the needles again, having allowed him to donate another bag of blood after getting approval from a higher up, giving him two bags of crackers. “You have to eat well today.”
“Thank you,” Geonwoo responded, taking them in his hands.
“You’re welcome,” she said, patting his shoulder gently before walking away, letting him leave the room and go back to the waiting area.
Hyunjoo was gone, his bloodied jacket the only thing left in the seat she had been sitting in. He called and called for her looking everywhere around the hospital but not being able to find her eventually, going back to the waiting area hoping she’d come back, which she never did. He was drowsing off in his seat when a soft voice startled him out of his seat, a doctor standing before him.
“Are you Hong Woojin and (y/f/n)’s guardian?” she asked.
He nodded.
“Both surgeries went well. We’re currently monitoring their progress but as of right now we do believe they’ll both make a full recovery.”
Geonwoo was overwhelmed with emotions as he bowed over and over again thanking her with tears in his eyes. Relief filled his entire being as part of him finally relaxed knowing the two of you were going to be alright - that you were going to be alright.
“Hang in there,” the doctor said before walking away leaving Geonwoo to grapple with his emotions as he cried more.
It finally hit him that he wouldn’t know what to do with himself if you hadn’t lived. If you had died in the kitchen or on the operating table. If both of you had died…
He didn’t want to think of it. You were fine. Woojin was fine. Despite the fact that he was sure about anyone else, he found solace in the fact that the two of you were going to be fine. All he had to do was hang in there.
blood of the covenant (natasha “phoenix” trace)
a/n: there is criminally not enough fics for our dear nat. so i finally decided to try my hand at writing for her. as a bisexual woman, knowing i probably won’t be able to come out to my parents is disheartening and upsetting because all i’ve ever wanted is acceptance. so i decided to write some found family/chosen family fluff with nat because that’s what the world needs. cool? cool.
(also: @a-reader-and-a-writer-for-all wrote a very awesome coming out fic with phoenix that if you like this, should go read. or even if you don’t like mine. anyways.)
summary: (bisexual!reader) growing up in a military family, you know what will happen if the Iron Daggers find out about your relationship to their fellow pilot. she doesn’t seem to agree with you on the certain doom you’re expecting.
callsign: Ace
main masterlist | top gun: maverick masterlist
warnings: discussion of past experiences with homophobia from family members, outing as retaliation, mentions of being disowned, swearing, dear god please have mercy i am so in love with natasha, bob is bisexual and i stand by this, he’s also the best friend, Mav is the resident father figure i don’t make the rules, is it obvious i have the flirting skills of a rock, i’m not labelling Nat’s sexuality because everyone has different opinions on it, idk if this is clear but it takes place post-suicide mission, i have no idea if I got Nat’s character right
The feeling of Nat lightly moving her fingertips up and down your arm, the steadiness of her chest rising and falling, the muted sounds of the TV playing, all were slowly lulling you to sleep. Natasha gently shifted under you and you hummed, peeking an eye open at her. “Baby?” She asked softly.
"Yeah?”
“How do- how do you feel about telling the team?” She asked and you glanced up at her. “About us?” You shifted, moving to look at her fully and she moved to an upright position, keeping her arms wrapped loosely around your waist.
“I mean, I don’t know, it freaks me out a little bit to be honest.”
“Why honey?” She asked, moving a stray piece of hair behind your ear. You shrugged.
“I know how military folks are, and I know that they aren’t gonna be supportive so- why-”
“Baby, it’s okay. We don’t have to tell them right now, not if you don’t want to. But I don’t think they’re gonna be mean about it.”
“Nat-”
“Just think about it okay?” You nodded, the look of pure love in her eyes overwhelming you. “I love you.” She whispered, placing a soft kiss to your cheek.
“I love you.”
-
You giggled at your girlfriend as she approached the showers in the locker room. “You’re gross.” You said as she set her stuff down.
“Yeah, Hangman left Bob and I out to dry again and it cost us the game and my not-having-to-do-200-pushups-in-95-degree-heat.” You snickered.
“When will he learn?” You teased, admiring how your girlfriend managed to be exceptionally pretty even while sweaty and disgusting. She shot you a smirk, moving towards you, despite the fact that you had just gotten out of the shower yourself. “Oh, no, no, Phoenix, you’ll get me all gross too.” You groaned as she moved towards you.
“Oh no, guess you’ll have to shower with me then.” She said smirking as she placed her hands on your cheeks, pulling you in for a kiss. Your hands found her waist as she slowly deepened the kiss. Sweat be damned, you couldn’t get enough of her.
“Jesus Christ, you two!” Halo yelled and you leaped away from Phoenix, heart beating against your chest.
“Sorry Halo.” Phoenix apologized, a laugh gracing her features. You felt nauseous and put a hand out against the tile of one of the showers to steady yourself. Halo was still covering her eyes, making Nat laugh harder. “You’re fine Halo, I promise I won’t go back to making out with my girlfriend. Least not while you’re here.”
“Last time I forget my stuff.” She grumbled, moving towards one of the showers. “Wait- girlfriend? The two of you are-”
“Halo, you can’t tell anyone.” You found yourself saying, a pit of ice forming in your stomach at the sheer horror of the thought.
“You let the wrong person find out then.”
“Halo, I’m serious.” You said firmly. “No one can find out.” A flash of hurt crossed Phoenix’s face but almost as quickly as it arrived, it was gone. Halo raised her hands in surrender.
“Fine, I can keep my mouth shut about this one. But maybe the two of you should consider keeping your hands off of each other in public if you don’t want people knowing.” You flipped her off as she snickered, disappearing back into the rest of the locker room. You turned back to your girlfriend, still feeling slightly nauseous. She shook her head and turned on the water to the shower.
“Nat.” You groaned, already feeling that she was angry with you. You were greeted with the shower curtain shutting in your face and you sighed as you moved back to your locker.
Maverick had decided to reward the team with a day of dogfight football, given the San Diego heat wave happening and per usual, it turned into a day of utter chaos. You sat off to the side with Bob after a few hours, sipping beer as you watched Rooster and Hangman stand in a very heated debate about who had actually scored the point for their team. “Nix is mad at you.” He said softly as you watch Phoenix pull Rooster away from Hangman.
“I know.” Bob was the only one on the team who knew your relationship and the WSO had been sworn to secrecy, only being told after confessing his own bisexuality to you and Nat late one night.
“Are you gonna fix it?”
“Explain to me how I’m gonna fix it Bob.”
“You could start by telling them.” Before he’d even finished his sentence, you were shaking your head. “Why are you so against telling them?”
“Because it’s not safe. Because I know how this ends.”
“How does it end?”
“With me losing my friends and the only decent father figure I’ve ever had and I can’t- I can’t go through that again.” Bob took a sip of his drink, studying you carefully.
“Your family isn’t supportive, are they?”
“I’m living in sin. This isn’t what’s expected of me and until I start acting like I’m supposed to, there’s no place for me among the greats.” You whispered, repeating the words your Dad had said the night he’d kicked you out and cut off contact.
“What are we girlies gossiping about?” Coyote asked, placing himself in between you and Bob and you startled. Bob rolled his eyes at Coyote as Hangman, Rooster, and Phoenix made their way over, Fanboy and Payback not far behind them. Halo was currently trying throw Fritz into the ocean while Harvard and Yale cheered her on. Omaha was nowhere to be found and if you had to guess, he was probably down the beach talking to some girl who’d caught his attention. If you turned just slightly, Maverick was stood on the porch of the Hard Deck talking to Penny.
“You done already?” Bob called out, choosing to ignore Coyote’s question.
“You quit like halfway through, man.” Coyote said.
“Who won?” You called, also ignoring Coyote. Coyote threw his hands up in the air in exasperation as he grabbed a beer from the cooler. Phoenix chuckled.
“No one. Hangman and Rooster kept forgetting they were on the same team.”
“Will there ever be a day where we can live with peace and harmony between the two of you?” You asked as the group arrived. “I mean, the bickering was entertaining for like, the first 5 minutes, but now the two of you just sound like an old married couple.” The two boys immediately began protesting at your words as Phoenix sat down next to you. You shot her a smile and she returned it. Things had been weird ever since Halo had found out about your relationship and although she’d kept her word, you knew keeping the relationship from the team was tearing at your relationship. Ignoring the two men who had now devolved to bickering with one another and a muttered agreement from the team about throwing them in the ocean, Payback and Fanboy sat down with the group.
“What were you and Bob chatting about up here?” Fanboy asked as he popped his beer open.
“Man, y’all are so nosy.” You muttered and Phoenix shot you a side glance.
“Ace, you keep so many secrets from us, you never tell us anything.” Coyote groaned and you raised your eyebrows.
“Hey Ace, is your Dad Admiral Frank Roberts?” Maverick called as he and Penny moved towards the group. “Penny thinks so but I think she’s wrong.” You slowly nodded.
“I didn’t know you’re from a military family.” Rooster said, clearly having lost interest in his argument with Hangman as he grabbed a beer of his own, sitting down in the sand with the rest of the group. You shrugged.
“It doesn’t matter. I don’t talk to them.” You felt Nat’s eyes on you as the group turned to look at you.
“How come?” Coyote asked and you shrugged again, not loving all the attention.
“It’s complicated.” Rooster waved his hand, expecting you to continue and you shook your head.
“Nope, that’s all you’re getting Bradshaw.” Maverick made a face and almost gave half a laugh and you turned to look at him. “What?”
He shook his head. “Nothing, I’ve just never had that great of experiences with your Dad.”
“Yeah, well, that makes two of us.” He looked at you, studying for a minute.
“Well, despite that, you turned out pretty damn good kid.” Your cheeks burned, and you hoped everyone would think it was the beginning of a sunburn.
“Thanks Mav.” You whispered and he patted your shoulder. Maverick quickly changed the topic, telling a story from his early days as a pilot. Phoenix nudged your shoulder as you tried to blink back tears.
“You okay?” She whispered and you nodded, but quickly got up and walked away from the group. You couldn’t let them see you cry.
-
You stood in the kitchen of your apartment, quietly getting a glass of water. Natasha had come over that night but things had been awkward and she’d long since fallen asleep in your bed anyways. Your brain was too busy weighing the events of the day, the ghosts of your past, the dilemmas of the present, so no, sleep was not exactly an option. You hadn’t wanted to wake Natasha so you stood in the kitchen, arms keeping you upright against the sink as you looked out over your yard. After you had left the group, Bob had come and found you and urged to let Nat in, tell her about why you didn’t want to tell the team. She knew you didn’t talk to your family but not why. There was no reason to project onto her or upset her. It would merely cause problems.
But now this was causing problems. You knew that the two of you were at a standstill in your relationship and you knew, that on some level, Nat being able to be authentically herself with her friends was a top priority for her. And she couldn’t do that if she was in a relationship she was hiding. You swallowed, taking a sip of water as you thought about where the two of you would go from here. So lost in thought, you hadn’t heard your girlfriend come into the kitchen until her arms were wrapped around your waist and her head tucked up on your shoulder. “It’s late baby.” She muttered, still sleepy. “Why’re you up?” You shrugged.
“Couldn’t sleep.”
“Why baby?” She whispered and you thought about telling her the truth as you eyes burned with tears. You knew where this was headed.
“Are you going to break me up with me if we don’t tell them?” You whispered, keeping your attention on the garden. She startled up, blinking away the sleep on her face.
“Baby...”
“Answer the question.”
“Baby, I just wish you’d tell me why you don’t want them to know. Why you freaked out so bad when Halo found out.” You shook your head, moving away from her.
“You’re avoiding the question.” She sighed, biting her lip.
“Please don’t make me do this.” She whispered and you shook your head, trying to blink back the unshed tears.
“Nat, I can’t- I can’t tell them.” You said, the first few tears starting to fall. “I can’t.”
“Baby, what’s going on? Talk to me.”
“I love you Nat, I do, but I can’t lose my family again. I just finally got one.” She moved towards you and you didn’t stop her from wrapping her arms around your chest, bringing you to hers. Your head fell into the crook of her neck as you cried, shoulders heaving with sobs. She held you tightly, whispering soft nothings in your ears as you broke down. You chest ached with the pain of knowing you’d lose your second family over this, but also maybe that you’d lose Nat too. Being with you wasn’t easy, and you knew you gave the pilot a run for her money. Eventually, after what felt like hours but was probably only a few minutes, when it felt like you had no tears left to cry, you tried to pull away from Nat. She kept her grip firmly on your waist, not letting you go far.
“Darling, please tell me what’s going on. I’m worried about you.” She whispered, reaching up to tuck a piece of hair behind your ear.
“God, it’s so stupid.” You muttered, shaking your head.
“It’s not, sweetheart.” She assured and the use of the name she reserved for you and you only made your heart flutter, no matter the circumstances. You bit your lip, glancing away from her and reaching up to wipe away the remnants of your tears.
“Penny’s right, that my Dad is Admiral Frank Roberts. And he, uh, he’s very clear on how his children are expected to act. And uh, being bisexual is on the very long list of dishonorable ways to behave. According to him, it’s a sin and isn’t right, and below the standards we were raised. And, well, in my early 20′s, my sister and I were fighting about, god I don’t even remember what-” Your voice faltered as you thought back to the painful nigh that took everything from you.
The kitchen door slammed behind your sister and your heart sank. You knew what she was about to do and with a deep breath, you followed behind her. Your parents, who had been in the middle of eating dinner, paused, listening to her as she angrily told them she had something to tell them. You froze in the doorway, heart beating against your ribcage.
“(Y/N)’s bisexual. She’s got a girlfriend and everything.” Your sister spat and you briefly closed your eyes. You Dad dangerously lowered his fork to this plate, eyes narrowed.
“(Y/N), is this true?” He asked slowly, the venom clear in his eyes. You knew there was no point in lying, knew with one look through your phone, it would show the truth. You nodded slowly as your Dad rose from the table. He paused in front of you, dangerously close to your face. You willed yourself to remain firm, defiant. “You know how I feel about those kinds of people.” He hissed and you swallowed. “You know how I feel about my kids being associated with those kinds of people.” He took a step back. “You’re living in sin, what you’re doing. This isn’t what’s expected of you and as far as I’m concerned you are no daughter of mine. There is no place for people like you among the greats like me.”
“Dad-”
“You’re a disappointment and a disgrace to the Roberts name and legacy. You always will be.” You took a shallow breath as he took every shot at you that he could.
“Frank-” Your mom protested but he turned to her.
“Can you honestly say that that is the kid we raised?” He asked pointing to you. She shook her head slowly, a distance in her eyes. He turned back to you, anger radiating off of him.
“Get out of my house.”
“-well, to make a horrible story short, she outed me to my parents and my Dad disowned me.” Phoenix took in a sharp breath as you finished your sentence.
“Darling, I don’t-” She took a deep breath to steady herself and moved her hands up to grasp your face, forcing you to make eye contact with her. “Darling, there is nothing wrong with you, do you hear me? It’s not a sin, or dishonorable, or anything else that he might have said to you. You love who you love. You’re human. You’re so, so well-loved. By me, by Bob, by Mav, hell, even Hangman’s got a soft spot for you.” You snorted at that and she gave you a soft, albeit watery, chuckle. “I love you, and I’m so proud of you. I know your parents probably aren’t saying it. What your sister did, well-” She took a deep breath as a flicker of anger crossed her face. “Well, it was shitty and it was cruel and you didn’t deserve that. You didn’t deserve any of that.” You nodded, feeling the tears once again crawl up your throat again, but this time for a different reason. “I’m proud of you and I wake up grateful every day that you chose me to stick out life with and I want to shout it from the rooftops and rub it in our friends faces every goddamn day.” You chuckled and she smiled, rubbing your cheekbone with one of her thumbs. “We don’t have to ever tell the team if you don’t want to but they’re not going to react they way you think they’re going to, the way your family did. And if anybody dared to speak to you that way, hell, I’d be getting in my F18 getting ready to take a dishonorable discharge for crushing them.” You let an outright laugh at that, a warm feeling settling in your chest. You nodded, pulling Nat into a hug.
“Thank you.” You murmured into her shoulder. You weren’t sure what you were thanking her for specifically but you wanted her to know how grateful you were she was there with you. As if hearing your thoughts, she pressed a soft kiss to your neck.
“I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else baby.”
-
You took a deep breath as the two of you entered the Hard Deck, holding her hand. You had made the decision to tell the team tonight and you were willing to brave any reaction they had, so long as Phoenix was by your side. You appeared at the pool table, where everyone was located, minus Mav. Phoenix squeezed your hand gently as the two of you stopped and attention turned to the two of you. “Alright fuckers, listen up. Ace and I are dating and we love each other very much. If anybody has a problem this, you can take it up with me.” The table stared back at her in shock as you gripped onto her hand, sure your knuckles were going white.
“You all owe me so much money.” Rooster said finally, turning back to the group. Nat raised an eyebrow.
“Bradshaw, you bet on my relationship?”
“Oh, hell yeah. You two were not exactly subtle. We just placed bets on when you’d tell us.” Nat cocked her head as you spluttered.
“Halo, you promised!” The team looked over to her, curious.
“You knew?” Coyote asked incredulously. She shrugged her shoulders.
“I walked in on them making out.”
“But she was sworn to secrecy.” Phoenix reassured, watching as Rosoter’s eyes went wide.
“As was I.” Bob said from his seat on the side. The team swiveled to him.
“Trace, I can not believe you didn’t tell me!” Rooster exclaimed and she chuckled.
“Rooster, don’t blame her, it was my decision.” You protested as he stared in shock at Nat. After a few minutes, when the shock wore off, the table picked up it’s normal chatter as Bob hugged you.
“Proud of you Ace.” He whispered and you squeezed him.
“Thanks Bob.” You pulled away and glanced over to the bar, seeing Maverick talking to Penny.
“Does he know?” He asked and you shook your head. You took a deep breath and turned back to Phoenix.
“Hey, I’m gonna go talk to Maverick real quick.” She nodded, pressing a chaste kiss to your lips.
“I love you.” She whispered, and you smiled.
“I love you too.” You shook out your nerves as you walked over to the bar and towards Penny and Maverick. They smiled at you and you had to remind yourself that this was Maverick. “Hey Mav.” You said and he greeted you. “Could I possibly- could we go talk outside for a moment?” His eyes flickered over to Penny but he nodded. He grabbed his beer and the two you left the relatively busy Hard Deck and out to the beach. He sat down on the bench and you sat next to him, taking a deep breath. You felt his eyes watch you carefully as you fiddled with the rings on your hand.
“You okay, kiddo?” You shook your head, feeling on the verge of an anxiety attack. He shifted as his position went from casual to concerned. “What’s wrong?”
“Well, nothing really, I’ve just- just got something to tell you and I’m scared.” He took a sip of his beer, nodding slowly.
“Well kid, I’m ready to hear it whenever you want to say it.”
“Um, well, okay, here goes nothing I guess. Um, I’m bisexual. Phoenix and I are dating, have been for the past few months.” He was silent for a minute.
“You worried I’m gonna get the two of you in trouble? Cause I won’t-” You cut him off with a shake of your head.
“No, um, it’s kind of embarrassing actually. Um, well, you’re kind of like my father figure, uhm, especially because I don’t talk to mine, and uh, well this is the reason why I don’t.” Maverick took in your words.
“I don’t think that’s embarrassing at all.” He said finally and you let out a watery laugh, not realizing you were close to tears. “I love you all, and yeah, I guess I’ve kind of taken on the role of Dad figure, haven’t I?” You nodded as he pulled you into a side-hug. “Kiddo, if we’re being honest, I’ve known about you and Phoenix since she ripped Coyote a new one for screwing you over during training.” You gave a small laugh and he shook your shoulders. “But, uh, being in the military for as long as I have, I’ve heard a thing or two about your Dad.”
“Oh yeah?” He grimaced, nodding.
“Yeah, you- you hear a thing or two about how he treats his kids too.” You looked over at Mav.
“Does, he- does he talk about what he did?” Mav nodded slowly.
“He’s very proud of how he treated you. And, uh, when I first met you, I thought ‘There’s no way this kid is his.’ Because Ace, you are an outstanding pilot and an even better woman and in no way compare to the vileness that is your father.” You sniffed.
“Thanks Mav.” He smiled at you.
“I love you kid, and I’m happy that you’re happy. I’m happy that Phoenix make you happy because you deserve it. And I know that the Navy loves to tout it’s diversity, but I also know you know how it really is. So thank you for trusting me with this, because I know it’s not easy.” Maverick squeezed your shoulder. “What the saying, blood is thicker than water?”
“The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb.” You corrected and he laughed.
“Of course you know that. Anyways, my point is, you’ve got a pretty good group of friends in there, who really care about you and Trace. And, uh, your family might not have been supportive but they sure as hell will be.” You smiled, not realizing how badly you needed to hear those words.
“Thank you, Maverick. You really- really don’t understand how much this means to me.”
“Of course, kid. Your family’s always gonna be here for you. Never gonna lose them again.”
Summer Rain: Storm-Given Flu 1
Tumblr media
Writer: Beanosei
Season: Spring
Characters: Niki, Kohaku, Himeru, Rinne
Niki: (Why do I have a bad feeling about this…)
A week before, Cafe Cinnamon
Niki: Thank you for waiting! Here’s the lunch set for Kohaku-chan~ Niki: And a coffee for Himeru-kun! Kohaku: Thanks Niki-han. Wait, what’s this?
Kohaku: Did you order this parfait, Himeru-han? Himeru: No, Himeru did not. Himeru only ordered a coffee.
Niki: Nahaha~ It’s mine! I’m testing out a recipe for Valentine’s Day~ Niki: My manager came up with the name though…Which I really hate! Kohaku: Oh? Kohkohkoh, Niki-han, what’s the name? Himeru: Shiina seems to have quieted down. Shiina should know he can’t just say things without meaning to say them.
Niki:...(small voice) Love-Love Heart-Kyun I love You Parfait.
Kohaku: What? I didn’t catch that, did you, Himeru-han? Himeru: Nope, Oukawa is right, Shiina. Speak up.
Niki: Agh! Geez! (louder voice) Love-Love Heart-Kyun I Love You Parfait! Rinne: Awww, my heart is beating so fast, dokidoki. I love you too, Niki~Kyun~
Niki: GWAH! Rinne-kun where did you come from?!
Rinne: Through the front door, obviously. Niki’s stupid~ Right, Merumeru? Kohaku-chan?
Kohaku: (Ignores to eat his meal)
Himeru: (Also ignores)
Niki: You- You know what I mean!
Niki: Weren’t you off at a meeting? Why are you here?! Are you messing around again?!
Rinne: Boohoo…Rinne-kun is hurt that you’d think that!
Rinne: While you three are off here sitting on your lazy asses, your leader is working so~ hard.
Himeru: No he’s not. Amagi is here right now.
Rinne: Gyahaha ☆ That doesn’t mean I haven’t worked hard for you! Right, Kohaku-chan?
Kohaku: (Busy eating)
Niki: …
Niki: Rinne-kun. What are you planning?
Niki: Please don’t tell me it’s another sudden offer to be on a variety show. I think for now we’ve about had it with those~
Rinne: Nope~ Even better!
Himeru: Amagi. Himeru hopes you haven’t taken on something ridiculous. For Himeru’s and everyone else’s sanity.
Rinne: Oh shut up and let your leader speak! Ya know how we’ve been getting good jobs lately? All because of your great leader?
Niki: Nahaha Rinne-kun, they weren’t all because of yo-MPHGHH
Rinne: (covering his mouth with his hand) Well, this one’s gonna blow your tiny minds!
Rinne: We’re gonna be in a movie, boys! Gyahaha☆
Rinne: Finally, our screen debut!
Himeru: Himeru has already been in a movie. So has Oukawa.
Rinne: Yeah, but that’s all shuffle work~ We as Crazy:B are gonna be in one together!
Rinne: Look, Kohaku-chan can barely contain his excitement~ Typing up a storm over there.
Kohaku: No- I’m just helping Rabu-han with somethin’
Niki: (Breathing heavily as Rinne releases him) But I’m a chef…not an actor…
Rinne: Yeah? But you’re also an idol, and now you got an opportunity you just can’t refuse!
Himeru: Himeru is suspicious. There must be a catch.
Rinne: Oi oi, Rinne-kun is heartbroken boohoo my heart is breaking into pieces~
Rinne: No one in my damn unit has any enthusiasm…what must I do to be recognized around here~
Rinne: Well, except Kohaku-chan. He looks very excited.
Kohaku: (puts his phone down) I am not!
Rinne: Excuses excuses, all I hear are excuses.
Rinne: Any~ways, here Merumeru, Kohaku-chan. Got your scripts already! We start filming in a week, so be prepared.
Niki: What about me, Rinne-kun?
Rinne: Don’t worry about it Niki~kyun~ Yours is special.
Rinne: Ah! Forgot to mention, I’m one of the leads~ I’ll be counting on Niki~kyun to help me rehearse!
Niki: ?
Niki: Sure, I guess?
Niki: (No script for me?)
Niki: (Why do I have a bad feeling about this…)
Present day, a changing room in the studio
Niki: (I should’ve trusted my gut!!!! Why did I let Rinne-kun push me around like this!!!)
Niki: (Thinking that I only had a minor role compared to the others, which I was fine about because really, I’m a chef, not an actor!)
Niki: (I helped Rinne-kun rehearse his lines by playing the second lead-)
Niki: Ughhh! Why did I let this happen!!
Niki: (Don’t tell me- He planned for this since the very start?!)
Niki: (slamming his head against a wall)
Kohaku: Niki-han…Are you okay?
Himeru: Leave him alone, Oukawa. Come here, let Himeru straighten your jacket. Niki: (AGHHHH. And It’s not like I can just. Quit either.)
Niki: (This is so frustrating! But everyone’s counting on me…)
Niki: (We ended up having to scrap that first scene…leaving it to another time.)
Niki: (Director-san and the crew were so understanding…I guess to give me more time to actually get used to this.)
Niki: (You’re the worst, Rinne-kun! The absolute worst! I can’t believe I thought nothing would go wrong!)
Kohaku: … Niki-han you’re actually gonna hurt yourself if you keep doing that.
Himeru: Director-san is calling. We’ll be going now, Shiina. Please maintain at least some sense so that we can successfully complete this movie.
Niki: UGH
Niki: (I guess they’re right, though. I’m here and stuck with this role.)
Niki: (Nahaha…everyone’s counting on me. Guess I’ll do my best.)
Niki:...
Niki: (Not for Rinne-kun, though!)
My friend
One of my fav things about WCIL is that they each had this journey of not being true to themselves. She was punishing herself - a self imposed thing forcing herself to believe that good things can't happen because they'll all end and he was punishing himself because... Well the pervasive Rich Dick dad card. Living your life for someone else vs not living your life for anything. Both of these paths are honestly so relatable. And I think it just goes to show that fighting things to meet expectations you put on yourself or others put on you just ... Don't work. Punishing yourself because of what others want from you or you think you deserve....totally whack....but WE do it ALL the time. Sell ourselves short. Think *this is the best I'm gonna get so this is how it is* Even if it's not love... Reader didn't owe her life and love in exchange for her parents and neither did Steve. Their respective "debt" to their parents needed to be kicked to the curb to do what they need to do for themselves.
Also, I don't think I blabbed about this part but one of my absolute favorite character traits about Steve is how observant he is. He is so smart because he pays attention. And I think it's probably a trauma response from his childhood or a result of boredom growing up being toted around ... Like what else was he gonna do? He knew all the old rich person gossip I just know it. And he probably was so observant because he tried so hard to find things to get his parents approval - like maybe if I do this thing that I noticed my mom likes she's love me more. Maybe if I do that thing I noticed they liked they'll stay home with me this summer. That's why he's "charismatic" because he is adaptive and knows what people are looking for from him. I think that helps him in the ST story and his problem solving and seeing patterns (S3 and the carousel music, etc). He notices the small things and they're so small most people write him off quickly about it. So I think that any AU that really puts that into his character is just beautiful. Because i can imagine the way his heart would swell when he realizes he can store that tiny piece of information away, or when he immediately had an idea because someone said something and it will pay off. Because I bet so much of that observant nature in his life was never appreciated by anyone. His HS friends took advantage, his parents didn't care...it never really made a difference. But when they DO make a difference to someone oh my god. And they made such sweet moments in your story that are subtle (the food orders, pickles, the well timed balcony sex, the Christmas dish, grilled cheese, I mean... So many things you hid in there) and yeah they're all cute Easter eggs for your story that really took a lot of thought and intention as you wrote those callbacks later but... It's also such a perfect ode to Steve as a character. That's how he IS. So I love that for you and your story as a writer because that brings me so much joy as a reader to recognize those little treats, but also so much joy as a Steve lover because its so *him*
I also love love the arcade chapter. Just running into him in that hat having the sweetest day/not date. Like they both really needed that moment together because they were in their feels respectively just... quietly. And god were they misunderstanding each other in such a real way. Id give my left tit to know what was going on his his brain that day. He was probably SO angsty knowing what we know now was going on for him at that point.
Ok I'm done. Bye. 📣
I don't even know how to respond to this...I am SO emotional...I read this hours ago and I literally just started sobbing. I was literally, in the middle of something semi-big involving WCIL (an announcement for future taylor to share on Tumblr MAYBE) and then, I went into my kitchen, started cooking dinner and put on When Harry Met Sally. And as I was drinking a glass of white wine and thinking about how I desperately want to write a movie or a book or a show that someone loves so much that one day they're in their kitchen, drinking wine, cooking dinner and playing it or thinking about it...I opened Tumblr and saw this.
Now, I can't even begin to tell you how much an analysis like this means to me. How much you sharing this with me will literally be a moment I remember for the rest of my life. I wish I could say thank you and address key things more eloquently and dive into the insanely amazing things you pointed out and sent but I'm truly at a loss for words. I can't believe you felt and got all of this out of the story and I'm just incredibly touched.
Thank you for sending this, and thank you again to anyone who's sent anything about WCIL the past few days when I asked. You've made a sad girl who's been Going Through It ™️ be able to say "It's okay. You're doing this and it's scary and it's gonna be okay."
I can't say thank you enough 💛
P. S: I am *literally* demanding we meet one day so I can kiss you and also give you a handmade mix tape which feels far too small of a way to say thank you but it is our shared love language and I'll tape it to a bottle of champagne 💛
Fuck sorting characters into hogwarts houses. Sorting Stranger Things characters into Taylor Swift albums instead
Now to begin, there are ten Taylor Albums(taylor swift/debut, fearless, speak now, red, 1989, reputation, lover, folklore, evermore, midnights)
All of these are my opinion and you don’t have to agree. This is all for fun
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dustin Henderson as Taylor Swift/Debut
Dustin is very energetic, speaks his mind, and can be very blunt like Taylor’s first album. It aligns with his tendency to be left out of things and left behind by his friends.
Lyric : “Oh I’m just a girl, tryna find a place in this world”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joyce Byers as Fearless (Taylor’s Version)
Joyce is sweet, caring, and passionate like the themes in Fearless. She is also extremely protective over the ones she loves, and often underestimated. Her relationship with Hopper has many parallels to songs within the album.
Lyric : “These walls that they put up to hold us back will fall down”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mike Wheeler as Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)
There are so many reasons why these two go together. Mike is a writer, Speak Now is Taylor’s only completely self written album. Mike is passionate about DnD, Speak Now has many fairytale elements and themes. It is an album of love, regret, anger, and heartbreak, all of which are major parts of Mike’s character.
Lyric : “Long Live all the mountains we moved, I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Max Mayfield as Red (Taylor’s Version)
This one was a no brainer as Sadie Sink, the actress behind Max starred in the short film for All Too Well(10 minutes version). But also Max is passionate, hotheaded, and caring. She’s been through some shit but is trying to make the best of it.
Lyric : “We learn to live with the pain, mosaic broken hearts”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steve Harrington as 1989 (Taylor’s Version)
This one was also obvious to me. 1989 is about having fun and living your life without caring what others think. But it’s also about being brave and trying to be yourself, much like Steve’s character arc through the series.
Lyric : “The rest of the world was black and white, but we were in screaming color”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nancy Wheeler as Reputation
Nancy begins the series your stereotypical suburban good girl, but things happen and she essentially kills the old her. Nancy is vengeful and powerful, both in mind and strength. But she uses this to protect those she loves and holds dear. She’s still badass, but she’s also a big sweetheart.
Lyric : “My reputations never been worse so, you must like me for me”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lucas Sinclair as Lover
This one was also easy. Lucas is kind, thoughtful and determined. He does so much for those he loves and is constantly supportive of them.
Lyric : “It’s you and me, that’s my whole world. They whisper in the hallway she’s a bad bad girl. The whole school is rolling fake dice, you play your stupid games you win stupid prizes”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will Byers as Folklore
Will does everything for his friends and family. He’s reserved but will speak his mind if his friends are being hurt , or hurting each other.
Lyric : “And when I break, it’s in a million pieces”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin Buckley as Evermore
Robin is smart, thoughtful, and analytical. She figures out things before the rest. She can be anxious and overthink things
Lyric : “Long story short it was a bad time. Long story short I survived”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jane/El Hopper as Midnights
Say what you want, but El is Midnights. Midnights is a collection of sleepless nights, some from anxiety, or anger, some are for fun and enjoying yourself.
Lyric : “You’re on your own kid. Yeah you can face this. You’re on your own kid, you always have been”
Thank you for reading the entirety of my extensive brain rot. Someone save me.
2023 Fic Writer Year In Review (Part 1)
These came from this ask post here, but I felt like answering them in chunks on my own, similar to what I did in 2022. I was a lot happier this year. :D
Answers 1-10 under the cut!
What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?
Messing with formatting and POV in "An Act of Husbandry" (Virche Evermore, Scien/Ceres)! I think it turned out great, thanks to the Despair Ending that inspired it having a lot to work with. I definitely want to try it again!
2. How many fics did you work on this year? (They don’t have to be finished or published!)
...I have no idea, actually. ^^; A lot? Let's go with that, yeah.
3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?
Being honest with what I want to write makes the act of writing go so much easier. Also a lot of things I thought I'd never consider writing I absolutely would if given the right characters.
4. What piece of media inspired you the most?
A lot of media, not even ones that I wrote fic for! Cupid Parasite wound up being a huge inspiration just for how it handled the different "love types" in each route so effectively. Baldur's Gate 3 has helped me put into context how I want to write Legato in Ligature. Virche Evermore has made me adore visual novels as a medium more than ever. Anne Rice's books once again reminded me of why I write in the first place...I could go on. XD
5. What fandom(s) did you write for this year?
Alphabetically: Berserk, Death Note, Granblue Fantasy, Trigun ('98 and Stampede), Touken Ranbu, What in Hell is Bad?, and Virche Evermore.
6. What ship(s) captured your heart?
This was the year of Legato x A Good Chunk of Trigun's Cast, with special mention going to Legato x Vash, Legato x Meryl and Legato x Knives x Vash. Allan x Lynette from Cupid Parasite also occupied my thoughts a lot, but I didn't feel the need to write fic for them. ^^; Also, coming in at the end of the year: is that Scien x Ceres from Virtue Evermore with a steel chair?! Yes it is, and I've never been happier to be bludgeoned.
7. What character(s) captured your heart?
Legato waited 10+ years before setting up shop in my heart and I still don't know what happened. Later, Scien kicked down the door and Ceres apologized before also stepping in too.
...Also, I feel it's worth mentioning, but good lord was this ever Belial's year as well, even more so than the last five. Confound this man and his ability to make anything sexy as long as he's involved!!
8. Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year?
With the exception of Berserk, GBF and Touken Ranbu, they were all new this year! (And even GBF had new faces, like Lodi.) In general I let myself run wild.
9. What fic meant the most to you to write?
...Hmm. It says something that there are so many contenders this year, doesn't it? Every time I think I have an answer, two more options appear. In general, there were points where I really felt characters' emotions as I wrote, and I hope readers felt the same.
10. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?
Again, a really hard question! XD But I do have an easy answer for that: Baby Princess Training Diary (GBF, Belial x Lyria and Belial x Lyria x Djeeta, rated E). It's a combo of being happy that I finally knew what I wanted out of it, and also just...I love Lyria so much and wanted her to have the best possible time, "even" in a kinky, dubcon story like this one. For whatever reason, she brings out Belial's most Dangerously-Caring Boyfriend Energy, and there are moments in this where I had to look away because they were so cute together! And adding Djeeta into the mix made it all the sweeter. It just wouldn't stop, even when it was time to edit. The fic itself isn't going to be to everyone's tastes, and I knew that, but still. It was just so fun...
