You Need To Know That You Are Enough
Tumblr media
I’m Enough; “You Feel Confident in Yourself and Your Abilities.”
One thing I have found myself repeating a whole lot this year is, “I’m Enough.” When you are no longer looking for validation from others, you are no longer feeling the need for collaboration because you used to believe that you needed others to succeed or be taken seriously, you fear failure is inevitable because you have never seen the level of success that you dream of happen for your family or friends. But there is another side of the coin to this, and that is “You Are Enough” for whatever it is you want to do.
It took a long time for me to realize and to say, “I’m Enough.” As a Black woman oftentimes we either weren’t taught or were raised to not even say this because it was perceived as being arrogant, not humble. But as old thought processes and habits are shed, you begin to realize that being enough doesn’t mean anything negative it’s a positive because it quickly notes that you have exactly what it takes to succeed, that you know who you are, you are powerful, smart, beautiful, loving, kind, soulful, oh you get my drift, don’t you? Do you see where I am going with this, I hope you do because for so long our culture has taught women that we need others to be deemed successful but there are other cultures where this is not taught, it’s the opposite, they are taught about being enough from young. This is generationally passed down and we are in a position to break these curses, and shout “I’m Enough.” But don’t think it will not come with pushback from every hotep, misogynistic, and pick-me societal woman. Who would rather remain the same and shame women for no longer bowing down to this disgusting patriarchal society. We see our fellow Black Sisters have risen up and it is time to join the ranks.
If you are hiding in the shadows because you are believing the lie that you are not enough, I am here to tell you that you are more than enough. Come out from under the cover of darkness, out from oppression and depression because of the lie you believed. It is time to take your position. Write it on sticky notes and post them all over your home, journal You are enough hundreds of times until you believe it, perform mirror work by watching yourself say it, get some merch made with “I’m Enough” on it, do whatever you need to do until it sinks into your spirit and blooms out of you every day.
And when you finally believe that you are enough, pull your fellow sisters along with you, this is not a walk for you alone, no, it is for you to make sure everyone is empowered and we are all standing shoulder to shoulder together.
Until My Next Post…We Are Enough!

drafting a game of poker, where the gamble secrets
Atrix seated herself at the table with the rest of the people.
Marietjie Recited the rules, almost bored.
"We changed the rules ever so slightly because gambling with secret works slightly different to gambling with money. You don't ask your question unless you win. If you fold in the first round, you can't ask a question, and you don't have to reveal your secret. Then the flop. Then, everyone reveals who they want to ask. Of course, you get the chance to fold first, but if you fold in this round, you still have to tell the truth, if asked, in private, under a vow of complete discretion. Then the turn. At this point, you can back out too. Or, you can hint at a theme: love, revenge, death... or you can check and keep silent. Then the river. Final chance to fold. If you do, you can postpone answering the question for an agreed amount of time, and there's no vow of discretion." She smiled at Atrix then. "Still want to play?"
"Of course."
"You sure?" She drawled. "It'll be a little awkward since you don't really know anyone here but..."
"I'll be fine, Marietjie. Don't concern yourself with my comfort, I'm playing."
"Believe me, I'm not.---Let's begin: Kese, you're dealing first-- Oh, that's another rule, the dealer is exempt from questioning."
The first round, Atrix folded. Her cards weren't bad, per se, but she wanted to see how the game played out. How Marietjie played the game.
"Folding so soon? Pity."
Three others followed suit. Leaving eight people to play. Kese laid out the flop: an eight of hearts, ten of spades and one of hearts. Here two more folded and Atrix learnt a few more names---Olivie, Anenyasha, and Berin among others. There were twelve at the table in total. The turn was played---the jack of clubs. And then things got interesting.
No one folded.
"Sleepovers," Marietjie announced. Berin paled.
"Exams."
"Employment."
And so on. It was interesting, but also terribly trivial. Child's play compared to the stakes Atrix had anticipated when Marietjie had said 'gambling.'
It was Olivie who won the round. "So, Kenai, why do your parents think we're staying at Ivory for an extra week?"
Kenai raised an eyebrow. "I told them I was going to be staying with you for an extra week at Ivory."
"Why?"
"I answered your question."
"Well, next time, I won't lie to cover your ass."
Kenai pursed their lips. "I booked a holiday near Strayavar."
"And you didn't invite me."
Kenai shrugged.
Next round. Kenai was the dealer. Atrix didn't want to go in for the kill just yet, but she had plenty of other questions she could ask Marietjie---and of course, it was only Marietjie she was interested in asking.
Her hand was interesting this round too. King of clubs. Three of diamonds. Kese folded in the first round, so did Olivie.
Kenai placed down the three cards and Atrix considered folding. One of hearts. Six of spades. Ace of hearts. Then Marietjie folded and Atrix decided against it. She was the only real threat. Not because the others couldn't be dangerous, but because Marietjie could not have had time to rally them against her.
Anenyasha had a question for her thought.
Neither of them won that round. So Atrix kept her question for the next round. Marietjie wasn't the most dangerous person in her family, neither was her father: it was Tancred. Her eldest brother was the most conniving, most underhand, lethal member of her immediate family. He didn't work in the family business like the rest of them---what he did was worse---but the only way to possibly keep tabs on him was through his family.
Atrix won the round.
"What's the latest news on Tancred?"
Marietjie sighed. "Postpone until we have a moment to ourselves?"
"As long as it's before camp ends."
Two more rounds went by where embarrassing secrets were imparted. One in secret. Another on full disclosure---though the exact contents had been enough to mark Atrix's cheeks.
"If anyone shares that..." Reeka hissed, glaring at Berin and Marietjie who were chortling.
"Oh, believe you me," Marietjie said, fanning her face, "I'm far more content keeping that a secret."
The game continued late into the night, Anenyasha and a few others left until there were only six left, including Kese, Marietjie and Atrix. Finally, Atrix got around to the question she wanted to ask.
"How is your father continuing to smuggle despite the crackdown?"
"Unsavoury means." Marietjie's lip curled. "He's not told me more than that he's not making much of a profit on it. I've been taken completely off transport duty."
"And it's not like you to snoop through his files?"
"He's employing help from someone who likes money a lot. Not human and I'm not inclined to believe their magician either---or if they are, they're part of the underground community. That's all, I presume?"
"Yes."
"So, one more round, just for fun?" Marietjie rested her cheek on her palm and smiled.
"Just for you." Atrix raised the glass of not alcohol---definitely not alcohol.
When it came to revealing who everyone was going to ask, Atrix knew she was being played.
"Atrix," Marietjie said.
"Marietjie," she returned. It was the only time she'd directed a question to Atrix the entire night. Atrix had one of diamond and queen of hearts. And one the table: jack and king of hearts and a nine of spades. Kese was the dealer and he looked away when Atrix turned to him; kept his head down as he placed the turn. Five of hearts. Marietjie smirked.
Berin and Reeka folded. She had a good hand, for now.
"Family," Marietjie whispered.
Atrix raised an eyebrow as she took another sip of her drink---definitely would have preferred for it to be alcohol. The evening air was warm and humid and she was just beginning to notice the uncomfortably warm blanket of air smothering her and the hum of insects in the dim light.
Kese played the final card (nine of clubs) and Atrix folded. Marietjie and Olivie were left playing.
They revealed their cards. Olivie could make four of a kind with the nines.
Marietjie could make a full house.
"Seems like I win. So, Atrix-" She laced her hands together- "I want to know what really happened to Heliar Maswalt."

Interregum: writer tales
My two projects are vastly different. These are different styles. A deeply personal introspection on the world outside and the other one is exploring the world of the characters which aren't necessarily myself (although somewhat myself of course).
I have written a bit and yesterday i had to give myself the strength to look at the things that I have already written and published. Even as a blog, I still get scared about what I am going to put to my goblin persona. i had them sitting in my scrivener and I wasn't even sure that they were good enough. And they have to be good enough to update because there isn't anything else that is compelling it except the strange impetus of missing out on a couple of months while I had a break.
So if anyone reads and thinks that they have been creating stuff and it hasn't felt strong enough to publish or even that it needs more work please know that even though I have hit my my modest goal of getting better at writing I am still looking at my work and I am still having concerns about the validity of publishing it.
And I am comforted by my conversations with one of my friends that have the same issue with writers block because this person is one of the smartest and most skilled writers that I know and he can't even open a book or listen to audiobook or even write due to burnout. And that is a sobering thought. That our output doesn't have anything to do with our blocks in our brain. That person is still the smartest and most skilled writer even in their blocked state. And that is the trust you have to have in yourself.

Short Stories of Validia Iys
Joseph struggled to sleep that night, the unfamiliarity of the forest and the worries plaguing him prevented him from even drifting off. Even though Elya had done an incredible job healing his shoulder it still ached and he wishes he wasn’t trapped within the embrace of the werewolf that had caused all the harm. Elya insisted that Alexi hadn’t  intentionally hurt him and he tried to accept that, but it wasn’t what scared him the most, he worried for his sister and mother at home, he knew they would be worried sick and he feared even more that if he returned home tomorrow to see them that they would be repulsed by the fact that he was now a werewolf.
It was even a bit much for him to digest, but next time the moon was full, he would be out in the forest, running wildly, scuffling in the dirt, hunting. He shivered and forced the lump in his throat to disappear. He wouldn’t cry, he didn’t want to, he had cried enough tonight. The mass of fur behind him stiffened and he yelped. Alexi lifted her head and nudged him. Joseph complied timidly and settled down as best he could. She paused for a second and sniffed, he tensed again as she judged him. Then she nodded.
Pack. She seemed to say. You’re part of my pack now.
He didn’t know if he was comforted by that or not. He supposed, if he were to be a werewolf it was better to be part of a pack that all alone. With that thought in mind, he managed to find a bit more peace in the giant wolf next to him, just enough to get him to sleep.
