I have a Reddit account, mostly because I wanted feedback on my query letters for Ismene.
It's nice to browse on there and see that a lot of the experiences I have are experiences people share. Like the weirdness of social interactions.
I think that one of the things I enjoy about writing is that I can write stories that I understand--or, rather, stories that communicate themselves to the reader.
Social stuff isn't like that. Take "How are you?". Well, it's a question. I should answer those truthfully (it seems respectful to, and also, experience states that if a superior asks, you'd better). Briefly, since if someone's working, that'd be the way.
But when you're asked how you are doing, you're not meant to answer the question at all. There is a formula response: "Fine, thank you", or some thing--and that is often true as an answer! But you're expected to answer with something like that, without any explanation, and even when it is a lie. It's bizarre. You're supposed to disregard what someone (that you don't dislike) said, and respond as if they didn't ask that question; but they didn't ask it in malice either.
Politeness as a lie, as an expectation that you deliberately misinterpret what is said, is very surreal to me. I understand that social norms are the consensus that has come to be, for my given context, and that I have to deal with them, and even that they apparently come naturally to some people, but they're still weird.
I don't meant that IRL society is wrong, or that it's wrong for there to be people I do not understand. I mean that, when it comes to me alone, I enjoy that I can write people such that there's not so much guesswork about what they're trying to say. Or build text such that the implicit things are communicated explicitly. It's very satisfying.

i just hope that no matter how many times this world tries to harden me and turn me into a cold person, i hope i remain soft. may i still be compassionate. may i still be full of love. may i still be soft and sees hope in everything. and to never become something that once broke me.

does anyone else find people working -- poring over texts, focused, eyes locked, brains turning, passionate, dedicated -- incredibly attractive?

Please let me know that I am not the only one who has read [& continues to do so] fanfictions about the characters whom I know nothing about; I haven't seen the movie/series or read the books about them but I am crushing hard on them because one of their fanfictions landed on my "for you" page...
