The Crowns
Tumblr media
💎 1. MEADOWGLADE.
Oh, you undoubtedly recognized this elegant crown. The Topaz Crown is the symbol of power in Meadowglade. It is worn by its karhs, starting with Kargo himself. He commissioned a "crown that outshines the Stars" in desire to emphasize his greatness.
🌸 2. WOODLANDS.
As graceful and delicate as the spirits of the lynxes that wore it. Woodlands crown was stolen after the deaths of Bachwurt and Geoda, Iktina's parents. The animals saw this as a bad omen, but the little lynx was not upset at all. She wove herself a wreath of fresh flowers to replace the missing one. Where the crown is now, no one knows.
🌳 3. HERBAWAY.
Oak motifs, closely woven into the country's history, are of course reflected in the crown as well. Mainly the Acorn Wreath symbolizes Broskhadome itself - the capital of Herbaway, built in the branches of a huge oak. It was grown from an acorn by the first Aldreve, Odga-Trevva.
🗻 4. FOREFROST.
A one-horned Crown stretching to the sky like a snow-capped peak. Its foot is drenched in red to commemorate the sacrifice of the first Aldrekh Turg, who spilled his blood for Forefrost during the Great Biting.
☀ 5. BLUEDAWNING.
The waters of great Lake Vazhyan give off a mist, in which the Sun at dawn appears shining blue. This phenomenon  has become the symbol of the country. Bluedawning is famous for glass production, so their crown is also made of glass. It depicts the way the sun rises over Vazhyan, piercing the blue haze.
🍂 6. SLEEKGROVE.
Sleekgrove is ruled by Blueflare,  a she-wolf whose forehead is adorned with the Three-Leafed Wreath. The three autumn leaves symbolize the first aldrekh and his two children, with whom the history of the country began.
🌊 7. GALESALT AND EARTHENSALT.
These countries, though they have a border, used to be united and called Solevia. They are ruled by two sisters who commissioned these crowns.
They were given the names Amber Crown and Coral Crown, and the aldreves are also referred to by the commons as the Amber Aldreve and Coral Aldreve. There is also the Crown of Pearls, worn by their mother Ienidale while Solevia was still Solevia.

🌿 Herb Of The Day
Title: Acorn
Gender: Masculine
Element: Fire
Planet: Sun
Tumblr media
📜 Folklore & History 📜
The acorns are beginning to fall. They have a long history of use by witches as sacred and magical implements, and the ancient Celts valued them much along with their druid priests. Acorns represent the miracle of rebirth, and oaks are considered sacred by druids. Acorns are also mentioned in numerous tales and traditions, including those of Native Americans and the Nordic culture. The druids, according to Witchipedia, see acorns as a symbol of magic. Acorns were employed in various rites and customs, such as the Samhain Sabbath, in the oldest traditions.
During the witch hunts, it was customary to deliver an acorn to other witches to let them know you were one. I've gathered a lot, some of which I'll use to make altar wreaths and some of which I'll save in my pocket to give to other witches. I enjoy the concept of smiling and handing out acorns to others.
According to accounts of old English tales, acorns originally had significance in the world of witchcraft and magic. At a time when Celtic witches had to brew potions and cast charms in the shadows, it is thought that witches would exchange acorns in the woods to identify each other and to let the other know that they were in safe company, much like Christians the symbol of the Icthys.
In Greek mythology, the oak was a sacred tree associated with Zeus, the supreme god. To this day, Zeus’s oracle in Epirus has the sacred oak in the middle of the grove, and priests would try to uncover messages from the gods by interpreting the rustling of the oak’s leaves.
Norse mythology has its own history with the acorns. Tall oaks attracted lightning, and so the tree was thought to be sacred to Thor, the god of lightning. After riding out storms, druids would come and collect acorns, which were always miraculously spared from the god’s wrath.
With this legend in mind, Scandinavians would usually put an acorn on the windowsill whenever a huge storm would blow, as a gesture of respect to Thor, and to ask protection from destructive lightning. Of course, these were in the ancient days when people believed that lightning enters one’s home through the window.
Another Norse legend has it that the god, Odin, picked an oak tree to hang himself from, so he could gain the tree’s aged wisdom.
Indeed, some oak trees can live up to a thousand years old, and it’s both fascinating and amazing to think that such a strong, stable and old tree could spring up from a lowly little acorn. This is where the proverb great oaks from little acorns grow comes from to signify that great things can emerge from small and humble beginnings.
While other cultures content themselves with carrying acorns or using them as ornaments in order to recreate the wonderful legends of how oak trees carry the good graces of gods and witches, other cultures consume acorns both as a standalone delicacy and a tasty ingredient to more complex meals.
The first to do this were the druids, who believed that the fruit of the mighty oak tree contained prophetic qualities. In fact, historians are of the opinion that the word ‘druid’ literally comes from the Celtic word for acorn.

🔮 Metaphysical Properties
To harness the protective magickal properties of oak and acorns, tie 2 oak twigs into a cross with red thread and hang it in the home or wherever you need protection. This is a strong protective amulet and will keep any malevolent energy and negativity at bay. Placing acorns on window sills will help to keep lightning away from your home while carrying a piece of oak wood will protect your person from harm while also drawing luck to you.
Planting an acorn on the night of the new moon will ensure that abundance will grow in your life. Keeping an acorn on your person brings fertility. This doesn’t necessarily mean physical fertility but can also bring you fertility of ideas, creativity or abundance. Wearing an oak leaf close to your heart will ensure that that you aren’t misled.
To see if you are compatible with a possible love, place 2 acorn caps into a bowl of very still water while thinking about the person you are interested in. If the acorn caps come together then you are well-matched and if they float apart maybe the time for the 2 of you isn’t quite right. Since timing is everything, just because the timing isn’t perfect right now doesn’t mean that it might not be right in the future.
To cleanse a home where someone is sick, make a fire from oak wood (obviously only if you have a fire place) to draw the sickness out. Please don’t do this in place of visiting a trained medical professional though. If you don’t have a fireplace, you can burn some dried oak leaves in order to smoke cleanse your home. If you happen to catch a falling oak leaf, some people believe that you will be safe from winter colds and flu.

🍴⚕️ Culinary & Medicinal
Acorns are the nuts of oak trees, which grow abundantly across the globe. Once a staple food for various societies, acorns are not as frequently consumed today. Acorns have gained a bad reputation because they contain tannins — a group of bitter plant compounds that may be harmful when consumed in high amounts. Tannins are considered an antinutrient, which means that they reduce your body’s ability to absorb essential nutrients from food.
Additionally, consuming high amounts of tannins may lead to adverse health effects, such as severe liver damage and cancer. However, most of the tannins leach out of acorns when they’re prepared for consumption — often by soaking or boiling. While no studies exist on the toxicity of raw acorns in humans, these nuts are rarely eaten raw.
A 1-ounce (28-gram) serving of dried acorns contains the following nutrients
Calories: 144
Protein: 2 grams
Fat: 9 grams
Carbs: 15 grams
Fiber: 4 grams
Vitamin A: 44% of the Reference Daily Intake (RDI)
Vitamin E: 20% of the RDI
Iron: 19% of the RDI
Manganese: 19% of the RDI
Potassium: 12% of the RDI
Vitamin B6: 10% of the RDI
Folate: 8% of the RDI
Scientists have also identified over 60 beneficial plant compounds in acorns, including catechins, resveratrol, quercetin, and gallic acid — potent antioxidants that can help protect your cells from damage.
The bacteria in your gut play a key role in your overall health. An imbalance of these bacteria has been linked to obesity, diabetes, and bowel diseases. Acorns are a great source of fiber, which nourishes your beneficial gut bacteria. Additionally, acorns have long been used as an herbal remedy to treat stomach pain, bloating, nausea, diarrhea, and other common digestive complaints.
Antioxidants are compounds that defend your cells from damage caused by potentially harmful molecules called free radicals. Research suggests that diets high in antioxidants may help prevent chronic illnesses, such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. Acorns are rich in antioxidants like vitamins A and E, as well as numerous other plant compounds.
Collecting and preparing acorns can be time-consuming. Though abundant in the wild, they’re not commonly sold in grocery stores. You may need to order them online if you’re unable to forage your own. You also have to leach them of their tannins to reduce their bitterness and ensure that they are safe to eat. This can be done by boiling or soaking. Though this process is quite simple, it may feel cumbersome — especially since other nuts are readily available and much easier to eat.
Tumblr media
⚠️ WARNINGS ⚠️
Some people report nausea and constipation from raw acorns, though this has not been confirmed by research. What’s more, the tannins give these nuts a bitter flavor. Thus, is not recommended to eat raw acorns. You can easily remove the tannins by boiling or soaking your acorns. This process eliminates their bitterness and makes them safe to eat.
Acorns are a tree nut, which is one of the most common allergens worldwide. Allergic reactions to tree nuts range from mild itching, scratchy throat, and watery eyes to anaphylaxis — a potentially life-threatening response that can cause extreme difficulty breathing.

A GREEK GOLD OAK WREATH
LATE CLASSICAL TO EARLY HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 4TH-3RD CENTURY B.C.
17 ½ in. (44.4 cm.) wide.
In ancient Greece, foliate wreaths fashioned from gold, mimicking natural forms such as laurel, myrtle, olive, ivy, and, as here, oak, were given as prizes, worn in processions or in the symposia, dedicated at sanctuaries and buried with the dead. Sanctuary dedications are mentioned in temple treasury lists from as early as the 5th century B.C., but surviving examples are few prior to the 4th century B.C. The meaning of the different plant species employed for these wreaths is uncertain, but in the case of oak, there is at least a clear association with Zeus.
Elaborate gold oak wreaths have been found in the Royal tombs at Vergina, including one placed within the gold larnax thought to have enclosed the remains of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, and another found in situ on the shoulders of a silver funerary hydria in the nearby so-called “Prince’s Tomb”. The large amount of gold that flowed into Macedonia and Greece following Alexander’s eastern campaigns led to a dramatic increase in jewelry production, and high quality works were now accessible to wider strata of society. As P. Adams-Veleni notes. “Indeed, rather than a privilege of the gods, such wreaths were common among wealthy mortals, whom they accompanied after death to the eternal symposium in the beyond.”
Oak wreaths dated to the later 4th century B.C. have been found throughout the Hellenistic world, east and west. Wreaths are also to be found on depictions of victorious athletes, including statues, coins and gems, although depending on the scale of the image, it is not always possible to identify the type of wreath intended.
The present example is composed of cut-out sheet-gold leaves, 104 in total, each on spiral-twisted wire and joined to ten stems radiating outward from a central ring. Four acorns are preserved on four of the stems.

Tarot Tuesday - Strength
A reindeer stands regally from within a wreath made of oak leaves and acorns rising on either side. Its large antlers frame a diamond, which is nestled between and uplifted by prongs. one’s self and fills the spirit with positive energies.
Oaks are hearty trees with long lifespans, they are commonly associated with longevity, wisdom, strength, and even divination. the diamond, in a similar fashion, represents the richness of one’s self and fills the spirit with positive energies.
The reindeer draws from these kindred forces to reinforce its wise spirit and unwavering endurance, both of which will be used during the journey of its life. Strength reminds us that sometimes our inner power can be a far greater force than anything physical.

He holds a flaming torch in his human left hand. Behind him is a pentacle drawn in blood.]

Tumblr media
[Image ID: Judgement. A bald-headed genasi woman with rich brown skin marked with golden energy lines stands with her left hip tilted and her right hand raised questioningly. She wears fine clothing of red and turquoise silks finished with gold thread, and a bandolier of potions hangs from her belts. She has a black staff with a serpent's head slung over a shoulder. In the background a mountain split into two halves down the middle looms. In the foreground are two tombstones: one reads 'Sinner' while the other reads 'Loser'.]
Tumblr media
[Image ID: The World. In the centre of the image a man in a black religious robe cowers, gazing fearfully at an unseen danger. His bald head is split by an angry red scar that runs from crown to chin, and a symbol of Demogorgon hangs from his belt. Twisting green tentacles form a rough circle around him. The word 'HA' is repeated in red several times across the background. The four corners are occupied by a demon each, one flying among clouds, one swimming with a fish tail, one perched on a rock, and one breathing fire.]

Much Colder - Heading into Winter
Tumblr media
A morning sunrise showing the old windmill in Sandhurst, Cranbrook - as contributed by Maggie M to the local Next Door app
Isn’t that a glorious image, it could be a still life painting.
Tumblr media
To stave off the chilly air we’ve been lighting the stove in the early afternoon: this is what it looks like when it first gets going and then we turn it down to a low burn.
Tumblr media
The walking stick you can see at the side of the fireplace is one of my late Dad’s, he had a few. He liked to collect the little metal shields from places my parents visited on their travels and they are down both sides of the stick. I think my favourites are from Dawlish in Devon and a very similar one from Cornwall. Those two are much more elaborate than the others, taking the form of stags’ heads with wreaths of leaves below and a small coloured shield set in the middle.
Most of the trees on this side of the garden have lost their leaves now, except for the beech, which is turning from a deep aubergine to the bronze you can see here and the hazel opposite the side window. ‘Doug’ the Christmas tree is sheltering - should have moved him there much sooner as his compost is very soggy.
Tumblr media
The oak, below, still clings on to its golden orange display, but the high trees in the woods are pretty skeletal now and all the birds’ nests have been revealed again.
Tumblr media
There’s a slightly different view from a bathroom window, the big trees in the woods look much closer than they really are.
Tumblr media
A couple of other sights through the window, that I really wouldn’t have expected to see in December, are pink flowers still on the roses at the side, just along from the hazel and on a fuchsia in one of the tubs. Amazing, especially when you consider the monsoon weather they’ve withstood.
Tumblr media
Apologies for the lack of clarity - must be window cleaning time again
Tumblr media
I’ve heard other people say numbers are down at their feeders and while I’ve got to be honest and say that we haven’t been spending much time in the kitchen like we usually do, so we haven’t been observing, the food is certainly being replenished frequently and this morning I saw a great variety of visitors.
Tumblr media
blue tits sharing nicely with a house sparrow
Tumblr media
Both male (above) and female  (below) great spotted woodpeckers are enjoying the suet balls. They often come at the same time although not actually interacting as a pair at all
Tumblr media
We also seem to have more grey squirrels again and they’ve been extremely busy burying acorns in the lawn, no doubt a fair few of them will make a reappearance eventually.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inspector Pritchard is still coming every day, but not spending so much time hanging around. He’s apparently set up camp in K’s greenhouse, but he does like a little variety in diet, so he makes his rounds. I tried to get a decent photo of how his tail feathers are growing in, but he wasn’t being very cooperative. They’re definitely touching the ground again though, so doing well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We had chaffinches, quite a few long tailed tits, a solitary magpie, starlings and blackbirds and of course, our little robin friend. I don’t know if this is the same one who visited us in the front porch yesterday. We were stood talking to two guys who’d made a delivery here and the robin flew to the wisteria and sat there serenading us for quite a long time. It was just like having a personal performance and a really lovely experience.

{Art by Julia Nikita}
The sabbats are holidays celebrated throughout the year on solstices, equinoxes, and the midpoints between them. These sabbats form the Wheel of the year.
There is a controversy surrounding the dates of these holidays, as people celebrate them all over the earth, not only in the northen hemisphere but in the southern too.
One viewpoint is that the Sabbats should be celebrated as they were originally created to be... in other words, Samhain is October 31st, regardless of where you live. In the Southern Hemisphere, even though you are just gearing up to summer on October 31st, this perspective says that you celebrate the cleansing and releasing, the honouring of the dead just as you would if you lived in the Northern Hemisphere. The other viewpoint (the one I personally agree with) is that you should celebrate when you feel like the season corresponds with the holiday, in other words, your craft, your rules. So if you live in the southern hemisphere, you have the choice.
I’ll be writing the dates for each holiday starting with the northen hemisphere and then the dates that many people celebrate them in the southern hemisphere

I made an autumn wreath for my door!
The 5yo helped me pick out the silk leaves and millet(?) as well as the grapevine wreath. Then he helped me collect the acorns and sweet gum balls (which I spray painted without help).
