Continuing to make progress on my new bench. Got the legs finished and the stringers setup. Marked out and cut two of the mortises into the top. Gotta take a break and sharpen my chisels up before the next two.
Another workbench drawer fitted out. It’s incredible how many tools you can fit into a relatively small space. I had a very large tool cabinet that was pretty much filled over the past 20 years….thinning down the herd, putting the “go-to” tools at arms reach. It’s been a fun process and will hopefully inspire you to do something similar in your own work space. Maybe not n workbench drawers, but tool cabinets, cheers or wall shelves. Storage ideas to keep your tools safe, clean and organized! Not a bad thing to do. Mine is my standing desk, cleared of my MacBook and papers. I find that tinkering is satisfying; so far I’ve swapped the single coil neck pickup for a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates Humbucker on this ersatz Tele and replaced the pickguard.
Next up I’m upgrading the single coil P/ups on a made in Indonesia Jazzmaster.
In the corner of my office are a few vintage electric clocks that I’ll take apart, clean, and educate myself about.
None of these projects are particularly daunting and price of failure is low- the clocks and guitars are cheap.
But it’s fun. As is gardening, a passion I practice in other people’s yards now that I live in a condo.
My point being, some time away from our phones is healthy. Honing new skills that are removed from our jobs and that require tools like screwdrivers and pruners- ok not for the same tasks- is extremely satisfying.
Finished up the bench. Probably some gaps in the documentation because I'm bad at posting things anymore but looking forward to finally having something sturdy to work on.
Probably gonna add some holes for bench dogs to use with the vise, and one of these next times at the forge I'd like to make some hold fasts.
There's definitely gonna be a lot of rearranging coming up in the shop with the extra space this allots me. As much as I'd like to leave things open, my workshop has been condensed from my old home and shed, to one room.
