Rise of the TMNT Full Names of the Turtles Headcanon

So as I’m sure several of you are well aware, we got a new TMNT series on the block. It’s called Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which depicts our heroes in green starting out in their career as ninja vigilantes. There are a lot of new spins on the typical dynamics of everyone’s favorite band of mutant brothers. Such as Raph being the leader, Leo being more goofy, Mikey showing more maturity and Donnie being incredibly sassy.

Well when I think about that bit about Donnie being incredibly sassy isn’t all that new. Especially in his 2003 TMNT and Bayverse movie versions. But you all get the idea!

My point is that it’s a really cool new TMNT series and is definitely my favorite, second only to the 2003 - 2008 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show. I know a lot of people complain about Rise of the TMNT but they’re all haters. So don’t listen to them. I suggest you guys watch it and make opinions of your own! And remember that every show, even the masterpieces like Perry Mason or Justice League, have their faults. We still love them in spite of said faults. So please give Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles a chance.

Now that we got that bit of fan-based promotion out of the way, onto the headcanon. Faithful watchers of the series already know that thus far none of the turtles, with the exception of Raph, have been called by the names of the Renaissance men that they are typically named after. In fact they have only been called by their nicknames so far throughout the show. Not to mention in the first episode, Mystic Mayhem, Leo referred to himself in third person as “Leon”. And in the episode Repo Mantis Donnie referred to Mikey as “Michael” at least twice. So that leads me to believe that the heroes in green have slightly different names.

With that in mind, I thought I’d make a headcanon on what I think those slightly different names would be like. I will also include the meaning of each name, it's cultural origin and how each turtle got their name. I hope you guys enjoy this ~

💙Leo🐢 = Leon, as he so stated himself. This name is derived from the Greek word meaning "lion". During the Christian era the name was merged with the related Latin word "Leo". This resulted in the two forms being used in an interchangeable way across European countries. The name Leon was also common among Jewish people during the Middle Ages. Chose this name because it rhymed with neon and often called himself "Neon Leon" growing up, much to the annoyance of his brothers.

🧡Mikey🐢 = Michael, as so referred by his second oldest brother. This is a Hebrew name that means "who is like God?", rhetorical question that implies no one is like the Man Upstairs. This is also the name of one of the archangels(if you have any Supernatural jokes please make them now) who was the only one identified as such in the bible. And in the Book of Daniel, in the Old Testament, said archangel was named as a protector of Israel. Picked this name himself because it sounded the most aesthetic.

💗Raph🐢 = Raphael, the only one who keeps his original name as given throughout the franchise. Another Hebrew name that means "God heals". Also the name of another archangel(again, make the Supernatural jokes already and get it over with). The archangel Raphael appears in the Book of Tobit where he disguised himself as a man named Azarias to accompany Tobias and his dog on his journey to Media. At the end of the long journey Raphael cured Tobias's father of his blindness. He isn’t mentioned in the New Testament, though. His younger brothers picked this name for him because the benevolence of the archangel matches the similar kindness of their big bro.

💜Donnie🐢 = Donovan, which April discovered to be his full name when she saw one of his self addressed reminder notes in his lab. Donovan is an Irish baby name that means "brown-haired chieftain". It was originally derived from the Irish surname version meaning "dark brown". The word "chieftain" has two individual meanings. It can either mean the leader of a people or clan, or it can mean a powerful member of an organization. This name actually fits given that Donnie has eyebrows. And the hair of them could be dark brown in color even though they look black. Having brown hair that looks black myself I know it's within the realm of possibility. As for how the sassy soft shell got the name it depends on who you ask. Leo swears up and down that he picked it so he and Donnie could have "twin names" since they're the same age. Meanwhile Donnie vehemently denies this and says he named himself that as a reference to the character from the Dead or Alive franchise, which is one of his favorites.

And that concludes my headcanon for what I think the full names for Raph, Leo, Donnie and Mikey are in Rise of the TMNT. I hope this was fun for you guys to read. Oh hey there, here some ref I made. He's the character on my last post, I didn't even decided a name yet for him. Maybe the name is something related to courage, fire, and rage? Any name suggestion for him on the comments are appreciated^

Unlike his father, he's more like his grandmother; full of courage. Anyway, I have given a name for his grandmother and her name is Alya. For more stories about them, visit my wattpad (their story are still in progress too, tho-)!

So, I added some 3 concepts on the ref. And for shading, I recommend you to use purple color tones. Coloring him was pretty fun by listening to Live For The Night by Krewella! And continued with other awesome songs^

I was also tagged by @tanithrea so I guess I gotta do this lol. But y’all idek if there’s even five things I like about myself lmao

1. I kinda like my eyes? Like I get a lot of comments/compliments that they’re pretty

2. I feel like this sounds really shallow but I really like my big boobs. Like they’ve become central to my sense of confidence and kind of a crutch? It’s really complicated but I don’t know if I’d be as confident as I’ve become (which honestly isn’t that much anyway) if I didn’t have them

3. I like my creativity, even if sometimes my brain frustrates me. I’m constantly getting new ideas for tons of different things. This is both a blessing and a curse

4. My strength. This probably sounds weird, and tbh I don’t normally think of myself as very strong, but…. When I think back on all of the things I’ve been through, and all of the times I’ve thought about and/or wanted to kill myself… I mean, when I was a teenager, I didn’t really think I’d make it this far in my life. I figured I would kill myself by like 30/35. I’m not that old yet, but I’ve got a lot of stuff I want to do now, and I want to stick around!

5. My enjoyment of learning, I suppose? If it’s something I find interesting or I really wanna learn about, I love learning! Like I’m having tons of fun learning Korean. My math class is still interesting when I step back and think about it, even though it confuses the shit out of me and I don’t really even like math. Learning is always good!

Opheliaverse

Been thinking about Oopher’s toofers lately 🥺 Unlike her siblings who are omnivorous creatures who sustain a vegetarian diet, Ophelia is completely carnivorous. Though she does fancy the occassional meat salad, picking out all the green stuff.

Oph’s set of teeth are a hybrid between equine and draconic; her front row being flat, cutting teeth alongside canid incisors and her back set being a mix similar to that of a wolf’s.

The ponies of Equestria have only recently welcomed in more species to their society, so luckily for Ophelia she can obtain the ingredients needed for her meaty diet from a local meat shop ran by Gilda and her niece Barbie. They have the freshest cuts around! Though it is undisclosed as to where the meat is sourced from.

The twins, Hodgepodge and Maelstrom, were Twilight’s last hurrah into the realm of motherhood! Once her two eldest daughters were in their teens, she had an unrelenting feeling of no longer being needed by her two draconequii offspring; and with this feeling of uselessness came a primal urge to bring life into Equestria once more. And with that urge, came an egg. A very large egg that the Alicorn laid, and thus introducing her two youngest children.

Hodgepodge Harmony and Maelstrom Miasma are placed into an unexpected situation, that of which they are competitive heirs alongside their older sisters for their parent’s royal titles; Princess of Friendship and King of Chaos. Discord’s magic seems to be equally split between Ophelia and Maelstrom, leaving them as two halves to a magical whole; the same to be said with Twilight’s magic between Hodgepodge and Persephone. This being the case, the siblings are constantly honing their magical capabilities, trying to overpower the other and impress their parents, urging them to choose the final heir.

Maelstrom is a major momma’s boy and Twilight eats this up. None of her children ever really clung to her the way her son does, and this created a very strong bond between the two. He of course feins disinterest for his mom when around his friends, but in private he loves for her to tuck him in and read chapters of Harry Trotter as he falls asleep.

While Maelstrom has evidence of being intellectually superior to most children his age, he doesn’t try his hardest when it comes to general education/critical thinking. He’s much more into the spontaneous happenings of chaos and fate. He looks up to his oldest sister, Ophelia, and the two of them making a fearsome chaotic storm of trouble in the Sparkle household. They often have to be separated, to each of their own dismay.

When not practicing his chaos magic or hosting tree frog treehouse renovations with his sister, Maelstrom can always be found stirring up trouble with his best friend Sheppard’s Pie.

Whereas Maelstrom clings to Twi, Hodgepodge shadows her father Discord. You’ve never seen a daddy’s girl like Hodge. She has the Calamity King wrapped tightly around her little finger (just like he is with all of his daughters). Discord can often be seen wearing a fresh face of makeup and set of acrylic claws after one of his daughter’s legendary makeovers that he of course allows himself to be exposed to from Hodge. He’s her number one (only) client!

Like her sister Percy, Hodgepodge has inherited Twilight’s ability to direct and control the power of friendship; thus placing her in a competitive position with her. Though Persephone doesn’t exactly desire to be the next princess of friendship, she doesn’t believe Hodge has what it takes and looks at the world through rose tinted glasses. Because of this belief, she does compete fairly liberally for her mother’s thrown. Hodge with her bubbly, sometimes overbearing personality and Persephone with her blunt and literal one.

Hodgepodge Harmony’s best friend is Buck Wild. The two get on great like best friends should! Hodge allows Buck to practice her rodeo stunts on her, and volunteers to be her rider due to her bipedal demeanor and small size. They’re a perfect match for rodeo bucking practice! When not roughhousing in the orchards, the pair is typically sharing hot chocolate at Coffee Cake’s cafe and listening to the mare’s advice they can’t/don’t want to get from home. This of course gives them the wrong impression of most things, but you live and learn, and Cake never means any harm!
