Is this why you told Dokja to prepare his heart? Was it actually because you were plotting to betray him?

Well, okay, betray is a bit of a hefty word considering the reason he did it and how it all ended, but still!

Oh man, and his reason. 😭 I actually thought quite a while back that maybe Dokja was (intentionally or not) preventing Joonghyuk from gathering enough stories to become a constellation by “stealing” all of his big moments but I never thought it’d end up like this. Yoo Joonghyuk of all people just completely losing all faith in himself and believing that he’s not the one to carry everyone to the end, Dokja is and Dokja keeps dying! (Who’s the sunfish now, huh?)

Dying and disappearing and who knows what else and Joonghyuk just wants it to stop. He wants to protect him from himself if necessary and is willing to make Dokja his slave and completely lose all future trust of his companions if that’s what it takes.

And he’s so concerned about their other companions! Oh man, he’s completely unwilling to express anything to anyone but the one place he can express himself is the silly little Midday Tryst that Dokja started all those years ago. He’s just been sending message after message off to Dokja about how worried he is about their companions. Messages that he doesn’t actually know will ever be read since he doesn’t even know if Dokja is still alive. Oh man, it's almost like he was speaking to Dokja's spirit all those years. 😭

"So you want the right over my life and death?" A calm anger flared in Yoo Joonghyuk's eyes. "At least this way, you won't be willing to sacrifice yourself again and the others… they won't do anything unnecessary."

Oh, Joonghyuk. Inside you are secretly the softest person in this whole dang novel, I swear. Ugh, and the Fourth Wall calling Dokja out on it all saying “you wanted this, you wanted to be Joonghyuk.” And now it’s completely screwed with Joonghyuk’s head because why do they even need Yoo Joonghyuk? They have Kim Dokja. He's a constellation, a demon king, and, most importantly of all, a ‘prophet’ who knows far more than Joonghyuk does, a man who’s able to weave his future knowledge into schemes that can neutralize opponents a thousand times his physical strength without losing a single party member. Ughhhh and even Dokja’s silly little “I am Yoo Joonghyuk” is probably screwing with his head because look! Kim Dokja can be Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk! The actual Joonghyuk is redundant! He’s a main character who has no story. 😭 The best he can do now is make everyone hate him by becoming a traitor and ensuring that Dokja doesn’t throw his life away. And it’s so extra painful because while Joonghyuk is thinking “it would've been better if I was like you” we have this on the other side: 「 On the other hand, Kim Dokja felt somewhat stronger. 」 「 It was a habit he had since his school days. In important moments of his life or in moments when his self-esteem fell, Kim Dokja would say, "I am Yoo Joonghyuk."」 (ch 197) Dokja started pretending to be Joonghyuk all those years ago because it made him feel stronger and gave him confidence and now the real Joonghyuk has lost complete faith in himself. 😭 At least, he’s lost complete faith in himself until Dokja shows him himself. I absolutely adored the fight and I really hope that this maybe leads to Dokja telling Joonghyuk more about how exactly his "prophecy" works. To help keep up his spirits if nothing else. Maybe not go into how he’s a character in a webnovel, but if Dokja can at least tell him that his future knowledge actually comes from Joonghyuk’s future efforts maybe it’ll help him?

He already knows that at least one version of himself took 1863 attempts so it's not like that information would cause any problems. Dokja can just tell him that he's been seeing that Joonghyuk's rounds this entire time or something. (Which is...not even really a lie. For once.) If nothing else, at least we got to see Dokja and Joonghyuk just laying on the floor exhausted after fighting, actually having a proper conversation. 😊

#fave spotting #peter wyngarde #jason king #the champions #the invisible man #itc #1968 #what's that? no‚ no‚ don't worry #I'm not rewatching the champions... yet... #one of my... shall we say less prudent purchases of recent months was getting my hands on a cheap copy of Network's retro action set #basically a sampler of single itc episodes in shiny HD; the intent was to attract customers to their burgeoning blu ray upgrades of #various itc serials. imprudent bc of course I've seen most of these episodes; i own a lot of them on dvd in fact (and cough some on blu ray #so yes not a wise investment perhaps... but with network gone (forever in our hearts) and their blu ray range finished (with little #chance of any other label picking up the mantle) this was my only chance to see certain things in brilliant high def... maybe highest on #the list was The Champions‚ a series I've always had an inordinate fondness for. it seems unlikely anyone will give it a blu ray release #so here it is‚ the one and only hd ep. sigh. part of me wished they'd gone for another ep tbh; this has never been a favourite‚ with #Richard and Sharron sidelined for most of the episode and a strangely underwhelming ending (the villains just sort of crash their vehicle #through no fault of the champions). but... it does look beautiful... and finally we can appreciate Peter's wonderful wardrobe as it always #deserved to be seen! he's always dressed in such a particular way that I'm half convinced he provided his own clothes for tv work #here he's... well im fairly certain he gets referred to as Dr but he seems more likely to be a surgeon‚ performing sinister operations on #unwitting stooges. his coconspirator is the lovely James Culliford‚ who like Wyngarde was a relatively out gay actor within the biz #i must admit it lends the episode an even deeper frisson of camp knowing the two actors were gay; Hallam and friend Charles do seem #and it makes the line 'Charles‚ use the vibrator!' utterly risible #still it's good fun. oh! and i finally got to see Tremayne's desk in hd! i always knew he had a bundle of crayons in a jar (a bizarre bit #of set dressing that was presumably an afterthought nobody was expected to see); what i didn't know and shiny blu ray revealed was that the #crayons are sitting on top of a bundle of marbles at the bottom of the jar... Tremayne what are you doing with your office time? #eta: half a tag got eaten‚ i meant to say Hallam and Charles seem remarkably close...

Working on some Sandman stuff and I realized that Dream loves so deeply (like throws his whole being into a romance that literally just started days ago; the type of guy who'd most definitely say "I love you" in a week, and the type of guy who'd try to make a paramour the regent to the Dreaming in less than a year).

All because his own parents never gave him love and affection. You can't exactly have your own ideal of what a healthy (romantic and familial) relationship looks like when your parents had a bunch of kids, but called quits on their relationship immediately after and can't stand to be in each other's presence. You also can't have the basis of what a healthy relationship looks like when your father has blatant favoritism toward your elder brother. And your mom? Somehow worse, in the regard that she heavily favors Dream and isn't bothered to keep up with her other children, much less remember the smallest details about them.

woah, maybe it's a cultural thing? that's so cool to me! i love learning about jargon specific to a certain country or etc. normally, that's what i think of a haircut too but once i started living with my stepdad, that definition became more broad. also not to switch topics too much if you wanted to keep it in the tags but i feel you about achieving that one sweet spot of where you want to be appearance-wise. it is hard but i hope that makes it worth it when you succeed, even when it isn't in the way you initially envisioned or planned. even though you haven't felt good about it in that timeframe, it appears that you've recognized the problem now, having self-reflected, and that in of itself is the first step to fixing it like you said with ur inner peace! sorry if this isnt all that clear, im not someone who struggles with dysphoria or is trans but i try to speak from a place of empathy. maybe to you, that's a great idea. but to me, i'm not sure.... what if you did something while i couldn't see? i can almost picture it now like... just taking one of your hands out of my grasp and letting them wander or putting a collar (!!) around my neck. but you wouldn't do that, not while i'm giving my all to clean your fingers, right? i mean, i'm doing my absolute best and focusing my attention on you to make sure i do the job correctly. even if you are staring down at me with a look in your eyes.. but i mean, if you want me to close my eyes, maybe it's for the best! yeah! but i cant help feeling nervous now 😖

Things had been hectic as of late around the Pale Moon Circus, ever since Asaka had decided to do a revamp of the entire show. After all, what was being performed prior had not been good enough for Ren. She could see from the brief glimpses she would get as she dazzled the stage with her beauty and tricks that he was becoming bored with the acts they'd perform each night. So, she had decided to incorporate changes, a lot of changes, to hopefully draw his attention back to her show and not the thoughts he'd continue to have about that runaway dragon.

Constantly competing with someone who was more like a ghost at this point was beyond irritating. Ren has told her that he hasn't seen Kai in his visions in years. On top of that, their group had not yet managed to capture that beast despite several attempts over the years. It was clear Kai didn't want to return to the circus, and while he was certainly powerful, Asaka had managed to acquire many powerful dragons to suit the circus' needs. They no longer needed him.

At least, she thought that. The director disagreed with that statement, saying Kai was needed to fulfill the visions he had been seeing. Asaka wasn't the type to doubt or disagree with Ren. She was devoted to him and had been since he saved her when they were younger. But this? She thinks his obsession with a dragon who abandoned him is doing more harm than good, especially when she sees the negative effects of his gifted eyes late into the night, when no one else can see.

There was no stopping him at this point, though. Ren would only stop this hunt once Kai was captured. As much as she doesn't want that lizard to return and once again take the spotlight from her, she cares more about Ren's own happiness. If having Kai under their thumb and performing alongside herself made the man she loved happy, then she'd do her best to try and make that image a reality, even if it's not what she wants.

Until that day came, she'd just have to continue working hard to satisfy him with what she had available to her. The Ringmistress had been putting together new acts for the show, putting people in different arrangements, incorporating the new beasts that were captured, and even changing the order of performances. She was trying something fresh, something to catch Ren's eye this time. Asaka couldn't bear to see him fall asleep again during one of her shows. It hurt too much...

With all the changes, however, came commotion in the form of everyone coming up to Ren to see if he approved of everything. Asaka had explicitly instructed everyone to bother her, and not him, for Ren was recovering from yet another spell from the lights which gave him visions of the future. He was in no place to be giving feedback right now. She also wanted the changes to be a surprise for the show tomorrow night. Looks like she was going to have to have a little talk with everyone for not listening to her instructions.

Before she can even go and arrange such a meeting, the voice of Ren grabs her attention completely. He was seeking a break from everything around him, just as he often had done, by seeking sanctuary with her and her alone. Who was she to deny his request?

"Consider it done. Please, give me a few minutes."

Asaka then gives a quick bow at her waist before leaving, slipping into that formal routine she's used to displaying when they're anywhere but the safety of her room. Out here, they both had roles to play. She was the tough and elegant Ringmistress and he was the charismatic Director. Only could they truly be Asaka and Ren when alone in their dark, dimly lit sanctuary, the place she intends to bring him to in order to relax.

The crowds of performers and staff all disperse at Asaka's command. They had all been practicing for hours and taking breaks was necessary to ensure everyone would be in peak condition for the upcoming show. Though, she was more concerned with following Ren's request. He was always her first priority, even over herself.

After returning to his side upon completing his request, the Ringmistress slips her hand to grab his own gently. Carefully, she leads him back to their shared room, far away from the prying eyes of the circus. The only people who had clearance to enter this area of their camp were Tetsu or that Psyqualia know-it-all Rekka, but Asaka is certain her pets guarding the door will do a good job keeping anyone from bothering them.

She closes the curtains, dims the lights, and then finally rests her head on his chest while wrapping her arms around him. They were alone together at long last. Even though it's only been a few hours since they were last in this room, to her it's felt like an eternity. That's how it always feels when she's apart from him, the very man she loved more than anything in this world or any other.

"You can stay with me, like this, for as long as you like. My chambers are always open to you, Ren."
