sam kerr’s alleged racial harassment of a police officer that was stressing me out was apparently… calling him a “stupid white bastard.” i have to laugh
Hoping this post finds people of colour who follow women's football! Please like/reblog this post so I can follow you.
Since moving to the UK from India and suddenly getting access to the world of women's football here, it has been a bittersweet experience. I also play for my uni football team, where I am one of 2 people of colour. I absolutely love that I have been able to follow women's football closely and also play in a team after 8 years or so. To some extent, these are both opportunities I did not have in my home country.
But it's also been disappointing. Without going into much detail, I'm sick of the racism I've faced in my own team and the sad lack of racial diversity in women's football in the UK at large. The worst part about it all is how oblivious my white teammates are, and how talking to them has been of no use. There are so many professional players I look up to here, but I have never white players say a word about the lack of racial diversity or push for greater inclusion. (I'm happy to stand corrected, but it is true for the majority of them).
That's a simple explanation for why I would really like to know and follow people of colour in this corner of tumblr :)
