Family dinners.
You either love them or hate them. Good food, people you love and drama all bottled up on a dining room table at around six thirty pm. An nightly event that could either ruin your night or make a beautiful memory for the future. There was no in between and by the looks of it, Y/n was getting the short end of the stick.
The past two weeks had been a living hell for the girl. Trying to balance her regular life with her superhero life was barely impossible the past weeks.  She had been Spiderman for years now and she had managed to balance both of her lives with ease but now, she was losing it. She couldn’t sleep, she couldn’t eat, she couldn’t focus. Y/n had never felt like this, even when her uncle died she didn’t feel as bad as she felt right now. Her spider senses didn’t have to tell her that something bad was going to happen at this dinner, her common sense already told her that. It wouldn’t surprise her if Doc Ock would enter through the door and make a big fiasco but she thought that it would be better than standing in this uncomfortable silence. No one dared to say anything which was rare with both of the families. They usually would fight to shut people up making even more ruckus but right now the only thing you could hear was the metal of the spoons scraping off the plates and the wall on the clock. No one said a word and that drove Y/n insane. She could feel her eyelids flutter shut as she thought of the last two weeks.
The Justice League had  been all up her ass making her work even more than usual. Not even the titans were working as much as her. Don’t get her wrong, she loved crime fighting but criminals in Palmera weren’t as scary as the ones in Gotham. She would prefer having to deal with people stealing a croissant  at a cafe than having to deal with one of the Joker's bombs. It was great that Batman trusted her with big missions but she needed a break.  Gotham wasn’t for her and quite frankly she didn’t understand how Jaime was capable of staying there for so long.  Gotham was hell and that drove her on the brick of insanity, maybe she would turn into the Joker of Palmera because at this point she was losing it as much as him. Y/n was starting to regret accepting the honorary position in the Justice League. She was in between cities Gotham, Metropolis and Palmera. Palmera, Metropolis, Gotham.
To make matters even worse, Villains in Palmera were multiplying by the minute thanks to Blue Beetle’s  appearance and to make her life even more difficult Blue Beetle was MIA. No one had heard a word from him. She hadn’t personally met him but ever since he had shown up her life got even more difficult, so long story short she wasn't the biggest Blue Beetle fan. Since he was MIA Spiderman had to fight her “arch nemesis” plus the ones Blue Beetle had managed to bring to Palmera. Y/n knew the media was against her but she also knew that the people of Palmera counted on her. People like her family needed to be protected, there  couldn’t be more deaths like Uncle Ben’s. She wouldn’t allow that, so even if she had to lose her sanity and her life, Y/ was going to do the impossible to keep Palmera safe.
Those problems were only the spiderman one’s. If her life as Spiderman was rough Y/n’s  life was ten feet underground. She was failing classes left and right, barely keeping up due to the fact that she was in between cities. She couldn’t talk to Jaime that night which made him completely ignore her. Aunt Marisol started acting weird around her, like she knew something she didn’t.  The Reyes family had to stop the construction due to some new laws that were happening and the tip of the iceberg, Milagro knew Y/n’s secret and she was eager to tell someone.
Y/n wasn’t okay. Well she never was. Even though she was an orphan, Aunt Marisol and Uncle Ben made her life good, they raised her as their own and gave her a good life. They worked hard for her to get to where she was at in life.  She was okay before she was bitten. Y/n had a normal life with aspirations. She had friends and family that loved her. She was doing well in highschool and she was on her way to get a degree. She was starting her relationship with her best friend and would fantasize about having a family with Jaime. And right now, at the age of twenty two she was losing everything she worked hard for with a blink of an eye. They were in depth, she was failing school, she was going insane, she didn’t know where she stood with Jaime and Uncle Ben was dead. All because she was bitten by a radioactive spider. Scratch that, all because she didn’t have the capability of balancing her two lives.
Before she could even go half way through her inner monologue her thoughts got broken by her head slamming against the hard wooden table waking her up immediately while also gaining everyone's attention. Her tired eyes scanned around the table straddle. Everyone was aware and used to the constant lack of sleep from her behalf but watching the dark eyebags and the food that was barely touched made them worry. Y/n noticed the multiple pair of pity eyes staring at her so she kept on looking around trying to see something different and that when she saw it. Milagros' eyes looked deep into her soul. It was worrying to Y/n already the fact that at any moment Milagro could spill the beans of her secret but the look on Y/n’s face made her scared. She was going to tell them, Y/n was dead.
After managing to avoid the family for the past two weeks, everything was going down while they were attempting to have a nice family dinner. If she survived this she was going to remember this as the downfall of family dinners.
Y/n glared  at Milagro  as she slowly shook her head not wanting for her to say a word. Y/n had hid her identity for years and she was successful. She never missed a beat and no one suspected a thing. But because she slipped one time, every secret she held was ruined.
“Okay! Since no one wants to address the elephant in the room I will…” Milagro started but before she could continue. Y/n slammed her hand on the table getting up quickly, gaining everyone's attention.
“This food is amazing. You guys really ate with this. Have I told you how good you have gotten at cooking? Nana and Rocio really have helped you a lot. We should all get cooking classes so we could all make really good food like this one. We could maybe even open a food store, because from the looks of it, I might drop out of grad school. I don’t know, cooking school would probably eat. See, I’m good at telling cooking jokes. Is it getting hot in here or is it just me? ” Y/n said quickly  as she picked up a glass of water gulping it down. Everyone stared at her with wide eyes trying to comprehend what was happening but before anyone could say a thing, her Aunt got up from her chair looking at her with angry eyes.
“ Que tu me estas tratando de decir, Y/n. After everything we’ve done for you, you are going to tell me that you are failing school?”
“No, tampoco así. Solo es que… I took two weeks off and now I’m a little behind on school but I can catch up on it now since I don’t have a job” She said quickly while closing her eyes not ready to see her aunt's face. Nana gasped as she heard the words escaping from her lips.
“What do you mean you don’t have a job? What happened to your job at the Daily Bugle.” Aunt May exclaimed, passing a hard roughly through her hair.
“Well, they didn’t like the fact that I took two weeks of work?” She said gulping hard not wanting to  dig herself a bigger grave.
“What? Do you think money grows on trees, Y/n! We are not rich. We can barely afford to pay rent let alone bring food to the table and you have the decency to tell me that you lost your job and that your failing school like it’s just a little game. This is real life and Ben and I risked a lot of things you could have the life you have right now. We took you in andmade you our own and this is how you repay us? These past few weeks I’ve seen a side of you I’ve never seen and Dios que feo es. I don’t know what’s going on with you, but it has to stop right  now. Disappearing to God knows where, ditching school, ignoring your family, ignoring Jaime. Have you looked at yourself for a minute in the mirror? I don’t recognize the women you’ve become and quite frankly this wasn’t the way I raised you and I bet Ben wouldn’t even recognize you too” Aunt Marisol yelled sternly as Y/n stared at her tears threatening to spill from her eyes. Y/n could feel her watch buzzing but all she could hear was her aunt's voice echoing through her head.
She screwed up and she screwed up big time. It didn’t take long for her to push her chair back and walk towards her room. As she went up the stairs she could hear hush voices talking at the table. Y/n could feel a lot of emotions right now, but most importantly she felt ashamed and embarrassed.  Y/n was fucking up her life by the minute and everyone could see it but her.  She tried her best to block it out as she entered her bed letting a loud cry onto her pillow.  She raised her head from the pillow tapping her hand against her nightstand to pick up a small compact mirror. She looked at the reflection not recognizing who was staring back at her. Aunt Marisol was right, she couldn’t even recognize herself.  She had lost herself and all her hard work.
Y/n felt once again her watch buzzing which made her angrily throw it against the wall. She let herself drown with tears as her head fell one again on her pillow. Lost in her thoughts she didn’t notice the tall frame enter her room and sit on the edge of the bed. Once his hands rubbed her back she felt her body tense up missing the familiar touch. She slowly raised her head from the pillow looking towards them, her eyes being completely swollen already. As she got up slowly sitting next to him, she played with her hands not daring to look  him in the eyes.
“Jaime, please listen to me when I say this. I know I’ve been acting weird and I know I’ve been a bad girlfriend. I’ve been ignoring you. But I really can’t lose you, you are the one person that keeps me sane and I know things are weird between us right now but trust me when I say this, I would never cheat on you. You are one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I would never risk losing that. I love you so much Jaime. I-I I swear that wasn’t a hic…” Y/n said in between cries, but before she could even continue Jaime pulled her into a tight hug, kissing the top of her head. Y/n cried into his chest as he rubbed her hair.
“Y/n, I trust you. I don’t know what you're going through right now. Pero te quiero ayudar. I love you so much and it hurts me to see you like this. Even though everyone is saying that they can't recognize you, I still see that beautiful girl I’ve been in love with since forever. You’re Y/n, the caring and loveable girl that would do anything for her family. The girl that is obsessed over romance books and loves to write.  You are Y/n L/n the light to this world, to my world” Jaime said as he pulled Y/n’s chin up placing a kiss on her lips. She missed this, she missed being this close with Jaime. She remembered why she started doing this in the first place, so that Palmera could be safe so they could live the life they deserved and worked for.
“Jaime, I wanted to tell you. I’m sp…” Before she could continue Milagros slammed the door open making the couple let go of themselves.
“Hey! I’m sorry to ruin your little moment but Doctor Octopus just came through our front door! And he got Aunt Marisol!”

a few more prompts
This crime is going almost too well?
Can you play with my hair?
Of all the people to body swap with. Of all the days.
This is no time for cute cat pictures and heart emojis!!!
And ANOTHER THING. Zombies-
Hey. Honestly? [deep breath] [SCREAMS]
Nothing like yard sale drama and intrigue!
I did not see your text. Actually I can't read. It's very sad. Sudden onset adult illiteracy is very real-
Do not put it in your mouth!
I know I got in trouble for buying them a very cool toy last time, but hear me out.
Bite me. You gotta.
I am not eating this raw, actually. Nope.
How long did it take you to make that for me? NO I am not crying
You drive me insane. Obviously I would go to hell for you
What does this button do? I gotta know
Sword fighting is even more charged than I expected and I was not prepared
I know you grew up in a wet cardboard box all alone but I cannot believe you have not experienced this. I think we have to, right now,  immediately
We both showed up alone to the couples cake decorating class, so obviously-
Oops! Run
It hurts, but it rules
After a bad day, what we really need is some chocolate and violence.
Meow? Are you kidding me?
Oh don't even get me STARTED on monsters-
Pick your battles. As in let go of some of them please I swear you cannot fight it all
You know that object from the thrift store we thought was haunted? Haha so guess what,
Good chances we all die. Counterpoint, everyone who lives gets ice cream with sprinkles, so gear up!
I think I pretty explicitly said not to get it on the carpet.
So your mic wasn't off,
Please dress up with me? Please please please?
It isn't my blood. Don't get it twisted
Can we kiss behind the mini golf windmill one more time?
Magic is real, it just looks fake.
Quick! Propose to me! Also, what's your name?
We have to get you a new super costume.
You're enchanting. You're resplendent. You're a little bit on fire,
I gotta be honest. I have no idea what's going on and I think I waited too long to say so. Sorry?
Why do they have cat ears? They're supposed to be DEAD
I have normal feelings about this. And regular opinions. And I'm vibrating a reasonable amount.
Help, help, I'm not supposed to be in this universe!!
I will help you ruin your hair, obviously, but you have to tell me what's going on.
You wore that to the funeral??
Baking is science. Wizardry is science. You know what isn't science?
Tired, angry, and covered in spaghetti sauce, and here I am at your door. But I can explain?
Bear. Seriously
gonna destroy you and end your legacy forever xoxo <3
Nothing could possibly make me laugh right now. Don't you dare start doing silly voices at me.
You know what this giant fancy crystal is good for? Blunt force head trauma
I know it's super dangerous but when your eyes glow like that I can't focus on the battle at all…
Life finds a way?
Fighting? No, no, we're having a great time arguing about this.

5 must watch kdramas if you are in search of something unique
When it comes to Kdramas, you can expect a number of varieties in the plots. Some are plain rom-com, while others focus more on crime and thriller, some are painting ever-existing social issues in front of the audiences, while others are taking them to a trip of fantasia. All in all, you can get whatever you want here.
However, it can get quite monotonous after a while. Since there are now a lot of rom-coms based on Boss-employee relationships or fantasy dramas based on non-human leads falling in love with the human leads, nothing is hard to predict. In this scenario, you must crave to watch something that has a refreshment to offer. Something that is not so predictable and leaves you hooked on the drama for good. And if you are looking for something just like this, then you are at the right place because I am about to suggest 5 must watch kdramas if you are looking for something unique. So, let’s get into it.
1. Reborn Rich
Tumblr media
Trust me when I say Reborn Rich is nothing like the dramas we are used to watching even if it has that chaebol backdrop. This Song Joong Ki starrer is based on the revenge of an employee, who gets falsely accused and killed by his employers. Just on the moment he dies, he is reborn as the youngest son of the same employers but this time he goes back in time and starts from the start. Jin Do Jun now carefully plans his revenge as he claims his inheritance over the entire conglomerate. The twists and turns of the drama are really intriguing. In a moment Jin Do Jun is winning in the rat race and the next moment he is being interrogated by his girlfriend herself. But what is even more intriguing, is the ending of the drama! That unpredictable ending will keep you in a chokehold until you can’t comprehend what you have just watched. Additionally, if you have interest in business and finance then this one is a must watch for you.
2. Celebrity
Tumblr media
Do you crave to have the limelight upon you? If yes, then let me tell you it comes with a caution. You might have to sacrifice more than what you can gain and all of it is pictured perfectly in Celebrity. This drama is the story of Seo A Ri, who accidentally becomes an e-celeb and completely despises what it has to offer. But soon she discovers the brighter side of the glam life she is offered and makes the best out of it, nonetheless, soon she finds herself succumbing to the darkness once she used to hate. This drama shows the downside of having an overly luxurious life and being addicted to social media popularity, which ends up costing A Ri’s life. But there is more to unfold. Celebrity is certainly intriguing but Park Gyu Young’s praise-worthy performance and the high-voltage cameos make it even better. If you want to watch a bad-ass female lead and a lot of unpredictable cliff-hangers then this drama is certainly a must watch for you.
3. Remarriages and Desires
Tumblr media
From the title the drama may sound to be one of the typical kdramas dealing with melodramatic plot but no, it’s not. Remarriages and Desires have a much heavier plot than you might assume. This one again is a revenge drama, but this time more on a domestic level. The drama focuses on a matchmaking agency called Rex, which signs up some of the wealthiest personalities of South Korea in order to match them up with their better halves. Seo Hye Seung’s not-so-simple life gets even more complicated when her mother enrolls her in as one of the members of Rex. However, she takes the chance of remarriage upon her unexpected encounter with Jin Yoo Hee, played by Jung Yoo JIn, there. Jin Yoo Hee is the person with whom Hye Seung’s ex cum late husband cheated her on and opted for a divorce. There begins the petty game of revenge and things get more and more intriguing by the end of the drama. However, only 8 episodes don’t do justice to the intriguing plot that it has. Nevertheless, this is one of the best dramas you can binge watch within a span of 24 hours.
4. W - Two Worlds
Tumblr media
W is one of the most underrated suspense thrillers to ever be made, you can’t convince me otherwise. The plot of this drama focuses on two parallel words that are going on side by side and integrated by a door through a web novel. While Kang Chul, played by Lee Jong Suk, thinks he is pretty much real, Oh Yeon Joo’s sudden appearance in his life reveals that he is nothing but a character of a manga written by Yeon Joo’s father. Even though the backdrop of the drama hints at a rich guy falling for a random girl trope, it has a lot to offer. Your mind will go numb with all the predictions by the end. With an unexpected ending, an unexpected villain and an unexpected story development it becomes one of the must watches when you look for something unique.
5. Extraordinary You
Tumblr media
Now this might seem to be an unhinged suggestion but wait, this is different. Extraordinary You is not a typical highschool romance as it seems it be, there are more. The drama is set within a comic novel. Yes, you read it right, within a comic novel, where all the characters are highschoolers and totally unaware of the fact that they are not even real. Until one day Eun Dan Oh, played by Kim Hye Yoon, finds out the truth. She then tries to change her pre-written fate at all cost as she doesn’t want to die at an early age. Changing her fate becomes even easier when she meets Haru, played by Rowoon. But things are not at all easy as it seems. The drama has a very unique plot indeed but it also has massive cringe alerts. So, please proceed with caution if you are not into sweet talks and PDA. Nevertheless, the unpredictable ending of the drama makes it a good addition when you want to watch something unique.
So what are you waiting for, get your spicy chicken ready and start binge watching these dramas if you have not already. I will see you in another post, another day.

mahiru. 12.
im expecting this to be an answer that requires a read more. go, autism boy, go. talk about mahiru and all the ways people sleep on her character
I LOVE YOU. YOU KNOW ME SO WELL. right. yeah here we go. i Do have thoughts. on this one.
12. what do you wish would be discussed more often about them in the fandom?
ok. well first off. i think we should just talk about mahiru more in general because i love her. but here is my biggest thought on What Exactly Some People, Especially Not On Milgramblr, Are Sleeping On About Mahiru: there's a lot of talk about her murder case, and that's great, but... i think a lot of the things that really draw me to her as a character and to her case tend to slip by people on account of the way milgram likes to- as kazui shows us in cat- keep it simple, victim and perpetrator. but i think trying to understand her better also gives a better understanding of where exactly things did go wrong in the relationship that put her in milgram.
the rest of this answer where i elaborate more will, in fact, be under a cut because you are right that i have an essay locked and loaded on this and actually this turned into a mahiru analysis/theory post by accident i meant to answer mostly normally but unfortunately i'm not normal about mahiru shiina.
let's talk about this is how to be in love with you. can we talk about this is how to be in love with you? i'm dying to talk about this is how to be in love with you. and god, its english name is a mouthful, i understand why some people just go with calling it ai nan desu yo.
obviously (hopefully) we all know mahiru getting guilty voted over this mv was absolutely fucked and unfair. i'm still mad about it. especially because i think that if you look at this is how to be in love with you (and her interrogation questions from its trial) in particular (as well as some other stuff), it says a lot about mahiru as a person, and in turn about her crime.
it's easy to miss underneath how friendly and cheerful she is with the other prisoners, how she seems like such a social butterfly, but... i don't think mahiru actually had a lot of connections other than her boyfriend, and i think this is a big factor in what happened with him. mahiru... seems lonely. like her life is... very empty. and i don't see people focus in on this fact a lot, despite how her first trial voicelines even say as much:
Tumblr media
there's nothing left without him, and at least if she's here she can talk to es and the other prisoners. mahiru's interrogation questions paint a picture of someone who doesn't really have a lot in their life. when asked in t1's interrogation if there's someone she can confide in, mahiru's answer is the lady who works at the beauty parlor she goes to. this doesn't seem like the answer of someone who has close friends to talk to instead, at least to me. like. that's not... you'd think if she had friends she felt she could talk to, she'd have mentioned that here, right? that'd be the place to mention any close friends?
in this is how to be in love with you we see her spending days off at cafes alone, and she tells us about having hobbies that are generally solitary, we see her reading in the mv and interrogation reveals that prior to milgram her hobby was watching dramas. she tells us in interrogation that growing up, she was a sheltered girl. she also appears (taken from this is how to be in love with you) to have recently arrived in tokyo, meaning she may not know a lot of people there and has probably moved away from most of her family (though she does mention attending a relative's wedding).
i think part of the problem is that when mahiru meets her boyfriend... she doesn't appear to have much in the way of anyone else. mahiru is social, mahiru loves talking to people, mahiru doesn't really know how to act without copying others... and her boyfriend is the only person she's close with. she appears to be relying on him for almost all of her social connection.
as i just mentioned, she also has the habit of copying others, incessantly. the infamous "i'd smoke if my lover did too" interrogation answer, and again, the text in this is how to be in love with you...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(transcriptions into english from here!)
see the things that jump out here? "even though i'm just copying everyone else in everything. is that the right thing to be doing?", "i thought to buy the same bread he did", "i wasn't really thinking when i blurted out "me too", so now we run together". you can see this in the lyrics too. "i'm going to start relying on you if you're kind to me, so please forgive me!"
i think these are key traits in why her relationship went the way it did. i don't think mahiru is uniquely "toxic" or too needy/clingy in a way that means she can never have a relationship (and god, don't get me started on how i've seen people say this). i think she's obviously a highly social person, and was in a situation where she was relying on one person (assumedly with lower social needs than her) to fulfill all of her need for that. i think she's horribly anxious about losing that connection and having to be alone again, and she doesn't know how to deal with it other than to constantly (and annoyingly, disruptively) ask for reassurance. i think she bases herself on others and ignores her own desires in order to imitate them and/or do what they want, and if her boyfriend also didn't have a particularly strong sense of identity and/or also wasn't the type to stand up for himself, it would be really easy to get sucked into this horrible loop where you're both trying to copy and please each other and now you're both constantly putting aside what you actually like for the other person and neither of you are happy.
except mahiru is happy, or... she thinks she is, because she's happy to give herself up for love. she says as much herself: "we fought sometimes, i was happy to get hurt." but... there's something else in the lyrics, isn't there? "i pretended to be a good girl, i don't want to be "ok"". my take is that mahiru isn't getting what she wants/needs out of the relationship, and knows it on some level. but she isn't going to leave him, either, because she's decided this is true love and also if she did that she'd be alone again. so she hopes something will just change instead, or convinces herself that she is satisfied. but she's not. near the opening of this is how to be in love with you: "i guess we can just say that this feeling is happiness, i can't stop feeling like there's something missing." so she keeps pushing, she keeps trying, and... well. we know how that ends.
so after all this rambling, what's my point, exactly? i don't think either mahiru OR her boyfriend were any sort of perpetrator. nor were either of them a victim. i don't think the relationship fits neatly into that framework, even though milgram judged mahiru a murderer and her boyfriend to be her victim. i think there's a reading that doesn't need any of that: two people who seemed to get along well and have similar interests who got into a relationship, and who were actually incompatible in their deeper needs in a relationship. mahiru clings to this relationship despite this, because she needs it. because she can't be alone again. because having a boyfriend who fails to fulfill what she wants/needs is better than having nothing.
neither of them are bad people, nor (from what we can see and from my opinion on it) did either of them do anything particularly wrong. what makes the most sense to me is a competing access needs sort of situation. mahiru needs reassurance and a lot of attention/interaction (especially from a romantic partner, something she idolizes having because of how special you're supposed to be to each other!), while her boyfriend needs more space than what she's giving him... but mahiru, at least, definitely doesn't want to break up. so eventually, they end up in a situation where he feels there's only one way out.
i think this lens can be supported by what we see in i love you, too! note lyrics like "this can't go on, something's got to give", "why won't you just accept me", "mon-mon-monstrous, cuz i love you so much". and...
here's something else she says in i love you: "i don't need anyone else, as long as i have you." but the truth is... mahiru does need other people. the truth is that one person can't fix the underlying issue that mahiru is desperately lonely and has very few connections in her life. the truth is that it's incredibly unfair to rely on one person to fulfill all of your needs and to desperately insist upon staying in a relationship just to avoid being alone, and mahiru realizes this too late.
so. um. i've never really seen anyone else talk in too much detail about an interpretation of the character/situation like this. i see a lot of "they were both toxic" but i think that's a kind of weak simplification of it, you know? what is "toxic". it's bad, obviously. do we think they're bad people doing bad things, or just that the relationship was bad? is that "toxicity" inherent to them as people, or could things have gone better in a different relationship? are they both "toxic" or are they just both stuck in an incompatible relationship where neither of them are wrong but they are unable to meet each others' needs?
i don't know. it's 4am and i've been writing this for two hours and i'm honestly not sure if it's coherent or not. but to end this here's another footnote of something i cant stand people sleeping on about mahiru: she is so stupid forgiving of literally everything and it kind of kills me and i dont really see anyone else point this out as being a bad thing that could get her really hurt. like. she forgives kotoko for almost killing her and says she doesn't resent anyone for anything. she puts up with anything, as seen by what i mentioned about her desire to stay in the relationship with her boyfriend even though it was obviously not giving her what she needed and it was hurting her too! i think if mahiru had ended up in a relationship with a different guy, it would be entirely possible for her to be in an abusive relationship and refuse to leave it because of this particular tendency. and i don't see this mentioned much. probably because, again... mahiru's framed as a perpetrator. she killed her boyfriend, right? so obviously she's not the one who'd be hurt in a relationship.
ok. i'm done now i promise i am so done with this for real. um. if you read this whole thing thank you. i'm sorry it's so long or if it's incoherent in places. i just have a lot of thoughts about mahiru shiina

Love reading the Donnie fallen for a villain , would it be ok to request Yandere Leo falling for a villain ? Maybe their laugh at his joke and one liners ? I’m fine with HCs if that’s ok ? 🌺
Tumblr media
I was working on another request but I hit a sudden block so I'll come back to it later. Anyway, if you read the request this is romantic
Time to feed the giraffes~ *grass confetti everywhere*
Tw: He's like super insecure in this but it's not explicitly stated, breaking in, maybe a tinsy weensy amount of manipulation at the end (I can't tell help)
Yandere Leo with Villain MC who laughs at his jokes Hcs
Another day, another attempt at trying not to be killed by your enemies. As per usual, Leo and his brothers are fighting crime.
While dodging the attacks thrown at him, he exclaims, "Someone really said tango of survival, am I right?!" Throwing in a comedic statement as a way to distract himself from his fear.
A few seconds later, a silent snort came from the enemy, seemingly amused by him.
Leo's brain shuts down for a moment, trying to process what occurred. Someone laughed at his joke? And a genuine one too?
Still stunned, he stands there and looks up at them, in a muddy daze. Unfortunately, he doesn't notice the series of attacks coming at him.
"Leo, look out!" Raph pounces on the blue schemed turtle, diving out of the way.
"They just laughed at my joke..." he pauses, finally regaining his focus, "They just laughed at my joke!" He grins, turning to the air to make a portal. He goes through the electric blue gateway, teleporting elsewhere.
"Only a New Jersian would do something as stupid as hosting a dinosaur magic show!" He arrives right beside the villain, his infamous smirk gleaming from the city's lights.
The villain, Y/n lets out a chuckle before destroying yet another building. A pleasing noise to Leo's nonexistent ears.
"Would you be saying that if I send you to New Jersey myself?" They yank his sword from his grasp and copy his actions, surprisingly making a portal underneath him. "Hahah, sure I- AHHH!" Leo yells in shock, the ground collapsing before him.
And before his siblings can confront the villain any longer, they disappear as well. Leaving the three to go rescue their 2nd eldest. "Someone who finds Leon's comedic drama appealing...I'm speechless." Donnie flatly comments, checking for Leo's tracker.
Meanwhile, in New Jersey, the blue turtle sighs in admiration. He knows they're a villain, but they appreciate his humor! They want to hear him!
And he would be damned if doesn't deliver more.
Within the next few months, with every encounter with the villain, he spews out jokes and comedy lines left and right. He wants to hear more laughs, he wants to see more smiles, and he wants to see more enjoyment.
He doesn't care if you're trying to destroy him, seeing you happy makes him feel more than alive.
Soon enough, he starts to plan his jokes. He does try to keep it relevant to the situation, but some of them can pass up as funny with or without context.
At night when he can't sleep, he silently recites all the lines you've laughed at before. Normally he wouldn't remember them word for word but with you, he does.
Progressing on, he tries to find your home/living space. Just so he can see you privately and give you your own stand-up comedy show. And when he does, all hell breaks loose.
He realizes with his teleportation ability he can visit you whenever he wants. So, he makes the best out of it. Any time his brothers aren't keeping him busy, he visits you or inspects your possessions to see what your interests are.
"Hm, I think I can make 5 new jokes out of this item here. They do seem to like it a lot."
If he finds anyone close to you, he's going to teleport them to an isolated place, a valley of nothingness. No one else will please you, and no one will make you laugh like he does.
He wants to entertain you. He wants to have you love him! He's never felt that his effort has been appreciated like this before!
So keeps your eyes on him, and let him be the star of the show.
——————————————————
He might be a little out of style from my usual version of Leo but I think it still makes sense.

Hello :) are there any bls or shows that you’re excited about watching this year?
I recently watched the pilot teaser for spare me your mercy (with Tor and JJ) and I’m super excited for that. I love shows with mystery and this seems to have that.
I saw some comments on YouTube saying this looks like a bromance rather than a bl. I think it’s still a bl but the main focus will be on the mystery element. Also since this is just the pilot teaser, probably they’re not revealing the romance part yet. I’m hoping this show releases this year though haha. Can’t wait!
Hi, anon 💜
and sorry for the belated reply. I had to at least pretend to catch up with my shows (I didn't) and get over the Playboyy finale (I also didn't).
I'm really excited for Spare Me Your Mercy too. It's my favourite Sammon novel, actually. And yeah, it's surprised me too that people think it won't be BL. When did (recent) Thai drama ever shy away from queer content? There's simply no need for it. I know there's people who don't consider genre shows like crime drama BL because it doesn't primarily revolve around romance, but I don't make that distinction myself. I actually prefer stories that are horror/mystery/fantasy/crime first and BL romance second.
There's also this weird notion that critically acclaimed actors like Jaylerr and Tor won't do (or return to) BL because it's somehow viewed as "lesser" than straight mainstream tv - which honestly says more about the people putting this thought out there than Thai entertainment as a whole. We seriously need to stop othering (Thai) BL or viewing it as less professional. It's silly. BL isn't a stepping stone, it's a genre as any other.
Uh, sorry for going a bit off-topic. It's just something that's been on my mind recently. 🙏
As for other shows I'm really looking forward to this year:
Tumblr media
Every You Every Me - because Mick Monthon is one of the most strikingly beautiful people I've ever seen, and I love him and Top together.
Tumblr media
Love Puzzle - which has been in limbo for a year already but Noh Phouluang deserves another show and I love the Chains of Heart universe (idk what else to call it and CoH came first).
Tumblr media
Wandee Goodday - because I've been ghostshipping Great and Inn forever and I'm ready to give gmmtv another chance.
Tumblr media
Zomvivor - because Mii2 and zombies. Will there be BL elements? I don't even know. I'm mostly here for Jimmy. 🤣
Tumblr media
Red Peafowl - because I love messy genre BL with a huge cast.
Tumblr media
Knock Knock Boys - because look at Best Vittawin and Seng Wichai. Look at them! 🥰
Tumblr media
And Monster Next Door - because finally FINALLY I get to see Big Thanakorn in the main role he deserves.🙏
But really, at this point I'm kind of looking forward to every Thai BL that's been announced because after three years I'm still not over the honeymoon phase of having discovered BL in the first place.
I'm also really looking forward to Deep Night starting next week to fill that Playboyy-shaped hole (oh no 🤡) in my life.

Pre DFF finale: brain churning, latching on to genre
I've nearly lost count of the number of genres Dead Friend Forever has pressed into service, but I'm trying to make a list, because I love this very good post on DFF and horror genres by @chaos0pikachu and that made me think about how much it's been throwing us around:
Tumblr media
slasher essentially a frolicsome and fun horror subgenre, if not for those who see little amusement in some characters terrifying and murdering others:
the first frenzy about the curse of the film, Por impaling himself spectacularly
the masked would-be killer chasing various characters, notably Phee and Jin having to hide in something that looks very much like a funerary box
mystery thriller trying to solve one or more puzzles:
is Non alive, where did he go?
possibly the mystery of who is the killer with the mask - but that's more of a slasher staple and less of a mystery to be solved, slashers don't necessarily reveal the murderers' identity
horror of personality the villain is human and technically normal, but is awfully murderous and/or sadistic etc.:
Fluke's descent into madness - I think him shooting Top goes here rather than into the slasher basket, because it's notably done in front of everyone and not by the/a masked killer
Tan-New's losses escalating his focus on revenge
Keng being subtly menacing underneath the friendliness
note that Non's descent into vengeful violence doesn't count towards this genre, as he's the main victim in all the genres DFF uses
erotic thriller what it says on the tin, it's suspenseful but there's sex:
Tee, White and The Hand
Keng's arc including his manipulation of Non
Phee having sex with Jin with the primary secondary purpose of getting closer to the friends group
social drama and how. Surely they didn't have to go this hard. School bullying, money trouble and debt all the way into inhuman terms for repaying, class divide and upper class suppression of lower class, police corruption, inadequate health care, power abuse, motherfucking organ trafficking, the list goes on and the shift from episode 4 to 5 left me reeling.
Most of the genres DFF makes use of are of the horror/thriller variety, and while social drama definitely can cross-pollinate with other genres, DFF injects some social commentary into the first four slasher episodes but then drops the horror/thriller entirely. Then it proceeds to do a very well crafted critique of a number of societal issues, with no hint of anything horror-y, until it picks the suspenseful genres up again in the later episodes. I was still reeling when they turned the social commentary back into those.
gangster this may be stretching it a little because DFF doesn't really tell any stories from the gang life POV and the organised crime is present mostly as a threat to the characters, but:
Tee is a (low-ranking and untried) member of a criminal gang, working for his gangster uncle, and part of the story is told from his POV
and there's even romance! sweet sweet passion, affection, wooing etc. etc. etc.:
Phee falling like a broken parachute for Non and proceeding to do all the cute things in the world with him
Tee and White with their meet-cute and not too unsettling relationship (White has some lines that hint about a dynamic that may not be all sweet)
I'm sure I've forgotten about ten genres and subgenres.
There's one episode left, and while I fully understand wanting it to turn slasher/vengeance thriller/etc. again and MURDER ALL THE ASSHOLES IN CREATIVE WAYS, I'm very curious about what genre notes they end this on.
Personally I'm still stuck in the social commentary and expect the finale to be Mike Leigh levels of unhappy, but with a Final Girl walking away, and I have no idea at all who that would be. It would depend on how many Sharpened Screwdrivers it gets on the Leigh Scale (probably fewer than I think, it's probably not supposed to end entirely unhappily. 4/10?).
(Side note 1: for terrific examples of social commentary horror, check out George A. Romero's films.)
(Side note 2: horror of personality is one of my favourite genres and my absolute favourite such film of all times is Michael Haneke's Funny Games. I love it, it nearly made me throw up and I don't know if I can recommend watching it.)

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
July 1983 to October 1986. In 1983, DC lured Doug Moench away from Marvel and books like MASTER OF KUNG FU and MOON KNIGHT to take over BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS under the editorship of Len Wein. Their run, which lasted 40 months, was the final phase of the Bronze Age Batman continuity; although it continued for some months after the end of CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS, everything up to DETECTIVE COMICS #566 and BATMAN #400 is functionally part of pre-Crisis continuity, in particular most anything to do with Jason Todd becoming the second Robin. (Jason debuted during the end of Gerry Conway's run in early 1983, but it was Moench and Wein who oversaw Jason's actually becoming Robin.)
From 1981 to 1986, there was a tight continuity between BATMAN and DETECTIVE COMICS: a story begun in one book would continue in the other two weeks later. This was something new for Batman; there had been occasional multi-issue storylines for years, and Steve Englehart and Len Wein had introduced a certain amount of Marvel-style continuity in the late '70s, but having around 40 story pages per month allowed more room for character-focused stories, supporting characters, and subplots. When Doug Moench arrived, a central focus was on leading up to Jason Todd becoming Robin, but there were also numerous other major and minor subplots, from Alfred's attempts to connect with his adult daughter, Julia Remarque (introduced by Conway in 1981), to Gotham's messy city politics and power struggles in the underworld.
In MASTER OF KUNG FU, Moench's signature storytelling preoccupation had been "kinky weirdos hurting each other's feelings," and his initial run on the Bat-books also featured a series of messy, sometimes bloody romantic triangles, the most important of which involved Batman; the now-reformed Catwoman; Nocturna (Natalia Knight), a pretentious Goth burglar who attempted to adopt Jason Todd; and Nocturna's adoptive brother Anton, who became a cat burglar out of deranged obsession with Natalia and later tried to kill her so no one else could have her. It was all very grandiose and inevitably somewhat florid, but then expecting gritty, understated realism from a comic book about a man who fights crime dressed as a bat is itself pretty silly.
The strongest story in this run actually has little to do with that soap opera: "What Price the Prize?" in BATMAN #372, is an intelligent, grounded drama about an up-and-coming young Irish boxer maneuvering for a bout with a Black champion obviously inspired by Muhammad Ali, featuring some of Don Newton's finest Batman art; the conclusion in DETECTIVE #539 isn't quite as sharp, but is still one of Moench's best. Other highlights include a clash with Catman (BATMAN #371/DETECTIVE #538) in which Thomas Blake's determined belief in the magical power of his costume nearly gets both him and Batman killed over and over; a wistful story about the private life and hidden depths of boorish Harvey Bullock (DETECTIVE #549); a delightful one-shot (BATMAN #383) in which Batman repeatedly tries and fails to get some sleep; the debut of Black Mask (BATMAN #385–386 and DETECTIVE #553); a comedic tale of Batman and Catwoman on an actual date, in costume (BATMAN #392); and a distinctly '80s-Bondian espionage adventure reuniting Moench and artist Paul Gulacy (BATMAN #393–394).
Artistically, the run got off to a good start with Don Newton on BATMAN (inked by Alfredo Alcala) and Gene Colan on DETECTIVE (generally inked by Bob Smith). Newton's departure in 1984 hurt, leading to a period of artistic musical chairs and some really bad early Pat Broderick art, followed by Tom Mandrake taking over BATMAN. Mandrake gets a bad rap in some quarters, mostly because his style is looser (and about two steps further in the direction of Gene Colan) than many comics fans care to tolerate, but his work here is mostly fine, and certainly an improvement over Broderick's. The Annual has some very nice early Denys Cowan pencils, inked by Alcala, and BATMAN #400 is an all-star extravaganza art-wise.
Maddeningly, DC has never properly reprinted a lot of this material, which I think is badly overdue. If it's not as epochal as some more familiar periods both before and after, the median level of quality is pretty decent (and certainly no worse than the 1987–1991 period, which has now been reprinted in its entirety); its emphasis on characterization wouldn't be matched again in the Batman titles for many years. Denny O'Neil supposedly hated much of what Moench had done (Moench has said O'Neil especially loathed Nocturna, whom he flatly refused to revive in any form), but Denny is dead now, and in any case, his Batman stories include their share of stinkers as well as gems. I don't know that DC has any kind of real reprint strategy anymore, but I hope they won't wait until Doug Moench is dead to properly remaster and collect these issues. Doing them all (BATMAN #360–400 and Annual #10, DETECTIVE #527–567) in something akin to Marvel's Epic Collection format would probably take four volumes — there's around 1,800 pages of material, more if you include Moench's Superman/Batman stories from WORLD'S FINEST — but why not?

Huh, I haven't really seen any debate around voting Mikoto Innocent or Guilty. Even though his verdict has been steadily declining since the release of Double. It's really interesting. Mostly because I don't know if this is a common thing, even for those who are more active in the fandom tag than I am or if I'm just that disconnected from the discussion.
Either way here are some objective facts regarding his case that I feel may be going overlooked presently.
John stating that we can't punish them.
This is objectively false, and it's implied to be false during the second trial commencement notice by Jackalope who states,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jackalope never says Milgram cannot punish the other. In fact, Jackalope alludes to the idea that the only reason the other has not been restrained as of now is because he's just not out currently. Something that would be rectified if Mikoto was voted Guilty again to John's own admission in the voice drama.
So, stating that since we can't punish him, we shouldn't punish Mikoto is just blatantly untrue. The implication since trial two started has been hey if you keep punishing this guy, we're going to have to do something about this other personality. We were unaware of it at first, which is a mistake on our part, but we'll do something about it after this according to what is necessary based on the judgements you've made.
Can't do anything about it now though. So, regardless of which of them one personally believes committed the murder they both can still be punished for it. Then under this framing voting Mikoto forgiven would technically be voting for this other personality to remain unrestrained the same as he was first trial. I don't think this fact has gone over consistent voters' heads.
Innocent for Mikoto would mean him being out more but there's no guarantee it would equate to John vanishing entirely. Because as John has consistently stated he would do anything to defend himself. If Milgram restrains him due to a second Guilty verdict, he will not be able to do anything to defend himself.
It's more beneficial for him to say it was him, but the rules here haven't accounted for them so right now Milgram is just wrongfully punishing a completely innocent individual for nothing. Because few people would want to punish a person for a crime they simply did not commit and again Innocent equates to him remaining unrestrained which allows him to continue to do what he wants to do anyhow which is protect himself by any means if necessary.
That is literally one of their shared motivations. Protecting themselves either from physical or mental harm or just defending their social reputation.
"Come to know me as an honest man, eat your words, gulp them down."
Unlike Mikoto who seems to be far more interested in not looking like the bad guy. John's entire focus is on doing whatever is necessary to keep Mikoto safe. Even if that means making themselves into the bad guy in a last-ditch effort to get an Innocent verdict. Based on an idea that the audience has been shown is not the case from the beginning of the second trial. That John cannot be punished and ergo finding Mikoto Guilty is pointless and cruel.
This is just simply not true and more attentive viewers would probably recognize that faster than casual observers would.
Yet that leads into problem two
One of them is still Innocent though regardless.
Regardless of if one of them committed genuine murder or not the other is still an uninvolved or unwilling party. This concept can be circumvented by claiming that both committed the murders together. However, this doesn't seem to be the case.
It's still difficult for people to justify finding someone guilty if that means a completely uninvolved party must go down with that individual. A lot of people wouldn't find that idea fair.
Most people don't want to kill a civilian just to take down one bad guy. It's a natural reflex/response to want to extend forgiveness or attempt to deescalate a situation when that sort of thing occurs.
The situation was just really bad all around.
Now, I'm going to put my pettiness at Amane's trial aside for a moment. I hear you work abuse is bad. Mikoto's boss was bad and probably still is bad.
However, we never see Mikoto or John kill their boss. Unlike some people who very much did kill the root cause of their problems-
Tumblr media
Sorry, sorry- It was just right there. I'm so sorry I'll try to stop.
In fact the one person we see them attack in MeMe for certain is someone who looks to be around the same age as him and is a coworker at best,
Tumblr media
Or at worse some random uninvolved fucking party. This could just be some fucking guy who happened to be walking here for all we fucking know. Because Double doesn't follow up on this. This guy was just here one trial and gone the next.
So, given everything that happened with Mu's trials. I feel like I personally have every reason to be cautious about this. Mu being framed as the bullied in After Pain to go to the bully in It's Not My Fault. Even though I want Mikoto to be Innocent this round-
I'd really like to avoid the whole After Pain to It's Not My Fault turnaround they're clearly setting him up to have trial three. Because trial three is an all or nothing game. You fuck up trial three and that could mean you're done, done. Even more so given that Mikoto would literally only have one innocent verdict and one guilty verdict unlike the prisoners that have been Innocent twice in a row.
So, maybe just maybe we should talk about this full ass other human being we see in his first trial music video. Because it's not John. Like the dude is clearly wearing different clothes from both Mikoto and John. So- who the hell is this?
Even if he were just dreaming about killing this guy. That still doesn't tell us who the hell this guy is!
Like wild- Who fucking is this?! He doesn't seem old enough to be the boss of anything let alone Mikoto's boss. Who is this person? The situation is still bad and if you hate abuse of any kind I can fully understand why you'd vote him innocent. Just be careful because Milgram has a habit of making people look like victims to simply turn around and show you how they've turned others into victims.
I'm just saying best to prepare for that possibility. Because this is what not preparing for it looks like,
Tumblr media
Something that only gets funnier when you take into account they took down Amane's innocent verdict from the seventies day one to this,
Tumblr media
Like girl nobody wanted to help you- That's fucking sad!
When she was on trial and this Guilty, I was like man there's really no way to turn a verdict around huh? But no, she was just that hated like daily for three months. There was a way to turn it around ya'll really could have.
Instead, thousands of people woke up daily for three months and chose violence. I am truly flabbergasted it is impressive it ended that high. Fuck Kotoko may not even be as Guilty as her.
Yes, the situation was bad. All the prisoners' situations were bad to some extent. Everyone's situation can be bad. However, a bad situation doesn't excuse worse choices. It's important that while recognizing someone's life is shit that one also takes into account, they did not have to make other people's lives shit in response. It's important to recognize showing empathy towards others, and extending forgiveness is not an endorsement of what those people do after or did before that moment.
It's recognizing they made a mistake and affording them the opportunity to make up for it at one's own discretion. Sometimes in order to be able to give someone true forgiveness someone has to recognize that person may never change, that person may never be the person you need them to be or want them to be and be okay with that. If your forgiveness comes with conditions, it's not forgiveness. It's just an agreement.
So, it's important to me personally that everyone at least tries to accept that regardless of verdict the prisoners may just get worse. Because to be blunt about it being nice to someone doesn't guarantee they'll be nice to you in return and not everyone meets cruelty with cruelty. People aren't defined by the words they speak but the choices and actions they commit to.
Pretty words only go so far. At the point someone is left to clean up the messes, pick up the pieces, and try to live in the wake of the destruction someone else caused they become well acquainted with the phrase actions speak louder than words.
Until someone has reached the point that they've said with complete sincerity,
"Sorry, you're sorry? What does that do for me?"
It's hard for me to believe people understand what an apology is for and who it hurts just as well as helps. This is why it's difficult for me to think others understand what they're saying when they say we're extending Forgiveness not trying to prove guilt or innocence. Because saying it that way can come off as claiming that forgiving someone is easier than condemning them for what they did, that it's less objective and based more on one's personal feelings than Guilty and Innocent is.
When it's so much heavier of a thing. Forgiveness is sometimes the only thing a person has left to choose when the world has been endlessly cruel to them. The only thing that people have personal agency over. The choice whether they forgive someone for how they have wronged them is treated as something easier than just objectively admitting someone's behavior is bad.
Forgiveness isn't meant to be easy it's not supposed to make you feel good. It's hard and even if you forgive someone it doesn't mean they're going to stop behaving in the way that hurt you before. Because giving someone forgiveness comes with recognizing that they may hurt you again, they may mess up again, and it could be worse than the last time simply because they're a person and that's what people do whether they intend to or not.
So, forgiveness simply based on the idea that the situation was bad, and they won't do it again now isn't forgiveness to me. Because it doesn't account for the fact that life will continue to be hard, things will probably get difficult again, these people may not know how to healthily cope, it discounts the idea that people will offend again they will make mistakes again and that doesn't make them any less deserving of forgiveness within reason than anyone else.
Because people are bundles of mistakes waiting to happen but that doesn't mean when those mistakes inevitably do happen it's okay to rub anyone's nose in it. Because the mistake of your enemy today can just as easily become your mistake tomorrow. Regardless of how good or bad your life is going.
All that to say Mikoto's situation is incredibly complicated for numerous reasons. Not all mentioned here. However, for the time being I'm glad his Innocent verdict is pretty secure despite its consistent decline.

Can we talk about Catwoman, Bruce Wayne and maybe a little about the concept of crime?
Just gonna get it out of the way: Yes Gotham war is bad for many clear, obvious reasons. It reads like like crack fic, though I personally believe that's more on editorial than Zdarsky, as this is perhaps one of the most clearly top-down, artificial, corporate plots since Civil War II.
But I'm not going to focus on the genuinely hilarious ideas here, and instead talk about the original sin: Selina's big idea.
Tumblr media
It immediately falls apart under any basic scrutiny: How is she convincing all of these wildly different people to become cat burglars? That's not an easy skill set to teach, especially at this scale. If the whole issue is as simple as a lack of work skills, why didn't she teach them anything else? Literally anything? If she has this level of reach and status to be able to convince 75%(!!!) of the underworld to throw in with her why would she use it this way?
On a level Catwoman has always had her nose closer to the ground that Batman could ever. She lives in the gray areas of Gotham. She gets, on a personal level, the ways that society fails the little people and she's been pretty consistent about going to the paint to help people in bad situations. So her wanting to really support people and get them a better shake is very in line with her character.
But she's never been dumb or blindly idealistic and certainly not naive. In fact if anyone should be able instantly suss out the logical problems with this concept, it would be the woman who probably understands Gotham's underbelly better than anyone else. She understands how the business works and would know that you can't support an entire criminal economy on stealing from the homes of the wealthy. Selina has been so successful because she's the BEST at what she does, and because her style is uncommon enough that most people aren't expecting to get hit by her. Suddenly there are what, thousands of cat burglars just running around every night? Then the rich just increase their security, and then what? The idea that it worked at all is such an assault on the suspension of disbelief. And it implies a fundamental misunderstanding of crime and what Bruce/Batman is even trying to do.
See there's an implicit suggestion here that Selina is trying to take care of people while Bruce only cares about penalizing offenders, and that's just...a really bad fanon take honestly. It stems partially from the problem of using "criminal" to describe a class of people. The idea that some people are just criminals to be stopped because all they can understand is crime. That's not a helpful or realistic way to look at crime. I think we understand that people turn to crime for many diverse reasons. We flatten their narratives because there's no time to go into the complex motivations of each Two-Face grunt, but in better written works it's implied to be there regardless.
On numerous occasions, it has been made very clear that Bruceman understands this. How could he not? He's one of the most intelligent creatures on the planet, and his autistic special interest is criminology. Like, he knows, he obviously knows, especially at this point in his career. A lot of damage has been done by the idea that Bruce Wayne and Batman are fundamentally separate people. there's plenty of drama in the discussion of being torn between a normal life and the obsession, but the obsession is always there, mask or not. Batman isn't supposed to be some bizarre divergent personality, and no I am not going to talk about Zur and you can't make me! He has historically used his money and influence to support less fortunate Gothamites since always. He's not some out of touch uber-wealthy person who thinks that beating poor people is the only answer. He's been written like that before by people who wish he was Rorschach instead, but that is not the overarching norm of his character. It's a sin comparable with forgetting that Clark Kent is an actual investigative reporter. Bruce Wayne works to counter the structural inequality that leads to common crime, and Batman steps in to protect people from violence, and uncommon, existentially different criminals. Penguin, Black Mask, Falcone--sure Batman will stop a mugging, but he really exists to punish the people who are benefiting off of the suffering of others. Even then, he'd still prefer if they redeemed themselves and moved on.
This is from the 2004 The Batman cartoon tie-in, but I think it illustrates the point really well.
Tumblr media
Like I've said before in other posts, violence is a tool in his belt, but he knows it's not the solution. Batman dissuades, Bruce Wayne offers support and options. Unfortunately, popular discussion on Bruceman has lost a lot of this plot, and focuses on the eye catching brutality that the movies and popular dark adaptations have championed. So what we get is this weird meta commentary that is supposed to make Batman look like a violent totalitarian punching down on people and missing the point when in reality, he gets the point! He super gets the point! The reason he doesn't kill is that he believes everyone deserves to try to be better, that concept makes no sense with a Batman who doesn't see criminals as people! Selina doesn't even have a point! She's supposed to represent a more socially conscious, compassionate, realistic perspective, but she's just not correct! It's an insane nothing-burger even before he completely loses his mind because of the plot. There are legitimate ideological issues to be pulled out between he and Selina. If she had become a crime boss like Jason tried to (and once did herself if I remember correctly) and used that to suppress the worse actors in a way he couldn't, you could really have them reckon with what they're willing to do to keep people safe and where the line actually is. Because they're all criminals in the end, what matters is where they draw the line. Batman works with plenty of dangerous and formally dangerous criminals actually, Harley and Ghost-Maker and Jason and Damian and--he's not some stupid inflexible hardliner cop. Stories where Batman is zealous about crime as like an amorphous concept are insane because they suggest that he doesn't recognize that his extrajudicial nature already complicates matters. That's another reason he doesn't kill by the way! He doesn't think he's the law! He's just a guy! Why should he get to decide the value of someone's life? But even then, the idea that the whole family would fall into civil war over Bruce and Selina having an ideological tiff is such an affront to all of them as individual characters. None of them are stupid enough to deal with things this way. It's not an exploration of character flaws if you're just making them stupid.
There's a problem about writers coming onto Batbooks and revealing that they have done no research into why people commit crimes and it creates narratives where Batman also doesn't understand the point, when he has and should!
Tldr,
Writers, stop pretending that Batman doesn't understand the social/systemic aspect of crime, and also maybe look into how it actually works yeah?

Listen I told my self that I wasn't going to get invested enough in Person of Interest to talk about here but here I am anyway. It was chugging along being a good background show with Some really fun, if a little trope-y, cop characters and watching Harold Finch and John Reese act kinda gay and stop crime. I'm a big Amy Acker fan ( that's actually why I even started the show) so I wasn't upset about the shift in focus towards Root and Shaw a little bit as I entered season 3.
The problem I have actually run into is fucking season 3 episode 9: The Crossing. It just made me angry at a show's choices in a way I haven't felt in a while - please note I haven't watched past that episode as of writing this but I will eventually do so.
An the assumption that she really is dead( that looked pretty fucking fatal) I will miss Joss Carter a lot but that's not necessarily what made me angry. It seemed to me that the writers knew that the actor wanted out of the show from the start of the season as the whole season 3 arc was a seemingly slow moving suicide. It wasn't poorly written but it was obvious that this was a different type of Joss Carter than season 1 & 2.
No my problem wasn't necessarily her death. It's the "romantic" declarations of the episode. Now before you look back at the start of this and post and think I'm just mad because it wasn't my very unlikely to ever be a cannon ship that got confirmed, well you're only partially right.
Yes I'm a Rinch shipper( if follow my blog at all you've probably put together that I often root if the queer ships) but I genuinely would have been fine resigning myself to fanfiction while they get hopelessly paired up with some unsuspecting women. I understand that's how crime drama TV operates. And you know I actually like John and Zoe as a ship, if they were developed a bit more I think they could've been a lot of fun.
My problem is not that the whole you "saved me from commiting suicide" speech John gives Carter is equally, if not more, applicable to his relationship with Finch. Well, okay my problem is not only that. My problem is where was any of the romantic build up between Carter and John, like literally anything? They work great as narrative foils when Carter was still on the "the law is the only law" train. And they work great as friends as Carter steps more into the "some minor crime for the greater good is okay" camp. But not once did I think " oh these two are about to fall in love". Not even when Shaw asked about it earlier in season 3 did I think the show was going to actually pair them up like this. Now I hear you when you say that there are examples of characters with less chemistry have become couples. It's just, I'm not sure what the narrative gain is here. They had to know they were killing off Carter that same episode and this "revelation" doesn't add anything to the character. If anything it doesn't make sense with the revenge for Cal Becher (Beacher? Beecher?- You know who I'm talking about) angle that the writers have been using all season. And if it's about furthering John's character that's just dumb. I wouldn't consider it fridgeing as I'm pretty sure this is an actor who wants an out of contract situation(feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), but that doesn't excuse it as a narrative choice. John unequivocally cares about Carter and would be upset about her death regardless or romantic inclinations, as would Lionel and Finch. They already have an in on the revenge story line (which is where I assume they are going with this). Why bother with the romance especially when John already has the lost love story in his background. Like what Jessica isn't enough of a dead romance they needed to shoe in Joss as well.
Anyway I also wish this was like a mid season finale not episode like 9. Like bro why are you putting away one of your biggest villains so far and this is only a third of the way in the season.
And I wish that Lionel wasn't just suddenly back in the plot, like I know you have a bigger cast now and I m glad he's here but build the guy up a little bit better please.
I also think the Root in a cage thing is a little weird like I know all of these people are chugging the " the ends justify the means" juice but it still seems like there are other options Finch would choose. ( that being said Root and Finch's conversation about the machine somehow come off like " I had sex with your daughter, and I don't care if you know” which was hilarious to me)
Anyway sorry for the rant thanks for listening and I do hope the show gets back into a groove.

Most JUDGMENTAL Signs of the Zodiac
We all have firmly rooted opinions and beliefs of how the world should be and how people should react like. These opinions are informed by things such as experience, education, culture, faith, etc.
When someone we know does something, we all judge them based on our own experiences. It's just part of life.
While some people will keep their opinions to themselves and move on, others will fixate on it and will turn the whole situation into a thing.
They'll bring it up repeatedly, they'll make it other people's business and they'll be unable to let it go.
Those are the kinds of people we consider judgmental, and the following 4 zodiac signs are the most judgmental of them all.
#1. Cancer
Cancers are known for being sensitive and caring souls that pay a lot of attention to what their loved ones are doing.
Unfortunately, both their sensitivity and caring attitude can make them judgmental of what other people are doing.
Their caring side makes them judgmental because they want the best for their loved ones, but "the best" is based on what Cancer thinks is best, rather than what their loved ones want.
While Cancer might feel like they're being supportive and caring, it's not uncommon for those on the receiving end to perceive the whole situation as a lack of acceptance.
As for the sensitivity, Cancers often assume that the world is out to get them, and while they're great at giving unwanted advice when they receive it, they do it in the worst way possible.
Cancers aren't afraid of dishing out judgment because they feel is for the best, but when someone does it to them, they feel like they're being persecuted.
Hypocritical much?
#2. Virgo
Virgos, live to be judgmental.
As one of the most observant and –let's face it– obsessive Zodiac signs out there, Virgos tends to be very nitpicky and overly critical, which often leads to all kinds of unfavorable judgments.
While this wouldn't be as bad if they kept those judgments to themselves, Virgos are also incredibly honest, and more often than not they'll share their opinions with others.
Every once in a while, this will lead to a positive resolution, but since Virgos don't really ask for permission before dishing out their judgment, more often than not it will end in a confrontation.
People don't like to be constantly reminded that they're not good enough, and while that may not be Virgo's intention, it's definitely how most people take unsolicited advice.
This should come as no surprise, as Virgos react terribly when people try to give them unsolicited advice, yet for some mysterious reason, it rarely stops them from doing the same to others.
If that wasn't enough, Virgos are also downright obsessive with things, so not only will they nitpick about things, they'll also nag about it, all while feeling that they're in the right the whole time.
#3. Libra
You'd think that, as a sign that abhors confrontation and drama, Libra would be one of the least judgmental signs in the Zodiac, but the reality is very different.
Libras are passionate about things such as justice and equality, and they often consider their own approach to life as The Best One.
Their developed conscience and sense of justice can be admirable, sure, but it also gives them a holier-than-thou attitude that, if left unchecked, few people will stomach.
Whether they say something or not, Libras are always judging what other people say and do and comparing it against what they think is righteous.
They'll fixate on things such as a person's eating or shopping habits, and since they usually prefer to avoid confrontations, they'll stew on their feelings more and more until, eventually, it all spills over.
If there's anyone capable of extrapolating hate crimes from a stranger's restaurant order, that someone is almost definitely a Libra.
#4. Capricorn
Capricorns are loners who prefer to keep their head down and focus on their own work, but they're also control freaks who want others to work just as efficiently and with as much dedication as them.
They might not pay a lot of attention to what others are doing, but when they do pay attention, they'll obsess over everything the other person is doing wrong.
The more they pay attention to what someone is doing, the more they'll fixate on the other person's "mistakes" and while they may or may not say something about it, they will most certainly resent it.
If you've ever met someone who dislikes someone else because of trivial things such as "how they chew" or "their handwriting," chances are that person is a Capricorn.
Luckily, Capricorns don't actually pay that much attention to what other people are doing, since they prefer to focus on their own work, but if you're a Capricorn reading this, keep this in mind.
The way you do things may work for you, but it might not work for other people. We all lead different lives, and it's absurd to expect your way to work every single time for every single person.

Heyo, i've got a game rec request for you! In a couple weeks i'm going to be a summer camp counselor for a cabin of teen boys (around 14-15 years old), and i'm on the hunt for some ttrpgs that i could bring to camp and try out with them! ideally something good for hour long pick-up-and-play sessions, more focused on getting into silly shenanigans than deep introspection. so far i've picked out Honey Heist, Galaxy Goons, and To Serve, but i'll take any other suggestions you can offer! tysm!
THEME: Quick Funny Camp Games
Hello friend, I’ve got a few silly games for you but I also included some games that are quick to run that have a little more focus to them in case your campers want to get their teeth into some plot.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cryptid TV, by yanahn.
A plague of Reality TV stars has descended upon the sleepy town of Mountain Lake ready to hunt down (and capture on camera) anything that looks even remotely like a cryptid - your crew is among them to cause drama, fake hoaxes, and enact sabotage beyond all reckoning.
If the game uses the same rules as Honey Heist, then picking up and playing will be even easier! And Cryptid TV is one of those games. As a reality tv crew invades your hometown, your job is to infiltrate the film crew and sabotage the show - while trying to hide the fact that you’re one of the cryptids they’d want to get on camera! This game is set up for exactly the wacky hi-jinx that you might expect, and I feel like the vibe really goes well with a bunch of campers playing in a cabin somewhere. You should definitely check it out!
1400 Planes, by Unknown Dungeon.
The multiverse roils with boundless existence. For many, the infinite planes of creation drift past at an immeasurable distance, their alien secrets perpetually out of reach. However those who break their mortal shackles and cross that liminal space, wander such exotic spheres on an eternal pilgrimage.
If the group wants to jump into something a little less silly or just wants a chance to feel powerful, the character options in 1400 Planes included Clockforged, Birdfolk, Jotuun, and Merfolk (to name a few). You are hopping through a multiverse, and while the different planes are dangerous, your characters have gear and skills at their behest to help them face danger head-on.
The biggest obstacle that might stand in the way of this and the other 1400 games released by this designer is the dice requirement - 1400 Planes requires at least one d6, one d4, one d8, one d10 and possibly also one d12. If you want a great tactile experience though, the different dice shapes certainly deliver.
Bro Hunters, by The Other Tracy.
Bro. Ghosts, Bro. The stories are true. We've got our gear and we're gonna get famous, Bro.  Bro? Bro.
Ghost stories feel like a great match for camp, so pulling out a quick game of ghost-wrangling or other supernatural tomfoolery just feels right. Bro Hunters has a built-in goofy element in that all of the characters will probably refer to each-other as “bro” - and the game also comes with structured scenes to bring you from point A to point B. This game also gives the players a chance to contribute to the narrative - if their character dies, they will narrate the creepy stuff going on in the house.
What I enjoy about this game is the number of tactile elements. You’ll need something to act as a speaking totem - or Brotem - as well as some tokens to help you change the narrative (also called Bro-kens!). This game is much more free-form and allows the players a greater amount of narrative control than the other items on this list - it's a great introduction to roleplaying if your group is familiar with telling ghost stories together.
Crime Wizards, by pewter bee.
You are the Fox Club, a magical crew of thieves and criminals. Your mission is to take what you want, work with clients to fulfill their needs, and uphold your crew’s reputation. Your leader, Juliet Thrice, is in hiding due to heat from a recent job she conducted, leaving you to act on your own until her return.
Lasers & Feelings is another system with quick character creation and only 2 stats to worry about, although it can be decidedly more serious than Honey Heist. In these kinds of games, you are typically skilled individuals with a job to do, with the challenge of operating without a key figure or resource. You’ll choose a single number and roll a d6 to attempt to roll over or under that number, with an exact roll giving you something special! In Crime Wizards, you’ll be on a fantasy heist - perfect for cool scenes while also providing moments for some fun along the way.

Do you think any of the ghouls are like, super into anime or a book series or some drama? Like, I wanna know what you think the ghouls do as hobbies and how they entertain themselves when they're not on tour or fucking each other's brains out
I have so many thoughts about ghoul hobbies! I think I've probably posted about them before? But I don't remember and my brain changes my own ghoul lore from moment to moment. But here are some quick words about what hobbies I think they have. Cumulus: Crochet and knitting. Always making something. Does it a lot on tour during free time, but also in the winter. Watches a lot of movies/tv shows too--but always has a craft in her hands while she is. Mountain: Plants, which I guess is obvious. But to be more specific tea making. Loves trying out new combinations with different effects. Sunshine: Makes tea with Mountain. Crochets with Cumulus. Reads with Dew and Rain. Watches a lot of TV. Doesn't have a singular solo hobby as much as she has adopted everyone else's in order to spend more time with them. Swiss: The movie guy. Watches a lot of movies. Knows them all. Resident movie chooser. Also very knowledgeable about TV. Just gets really into it, easily absorbed in a story line. Not snobby about it either, just genuinely likes visual media. Always trust Swiss' recommendations. Dew: Collector of knowledge of all things horror and underground rock/metal. Extensive vinyl and DVD collection. Knows more about bands and bad movies than anyone else. Always playing something weird on his record player. Also, really loves to read but shhh don't tell anyone. Rain: Abbey bookworm. Will read anything and everything. Has read half the books in the library (especially the ones he isn't supposed to). Cirrus: Occasional knitter and cross stitcher (mostly just in the winter). Watches and listens to A LOT of true crime. Is maybe a little too into it. Aurora: Anime and Manga. Always reading something. Always in the middle of an extensive anime series. Despite having been topside for a short time knows more than anyone else about any of it. Swiss recommended a few to her and it was over for her after that. Aeon: Music guy, like Dew. But more varied. Doesn't focus on collecting a certain genre like Dew, just loves to find new music. Is always listening to something no one else has ever heard of. Not into vinyl, but always has earbuds in. Also, really into succulents. Aether: Visual art. Loves to draw and paint. Spends a lot of free time sketching. Has full sketchbooks full of scenes from tour buses and venues. Likes to keep his hands busy and loves being able to capture a moment in time.

Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes - Number 20
Welcome to A Gathering of the Greatest Gumshoes! During this month-long event, I’ll be counting my Top 31 Favorite Fictional Detectives, from movies, television, literature, video games, and more! Today, the countdown enters the Top 20!
SLEUTH-OF-THE-DAY’S QUOTE: “Kill me if you can!”
Number 20 is…L, from Death Note.
Tumblr media
So far, all of the detectives on this list have been protagonist figures. Not all of them have been the MAIN protagonists (although the grand majority have been), but the focus in every situation up till now has been on the detectives trying to solve the cases. This, of course, is not always the case: not every protagonist is a hero, not every antagonist is a villain, and there are two sides to every story. While antagonistic detectives are somewhat rare, they do exist, and in various forms. Most I didn’t feel deserved placement on this countdown, however, due to one or more of the rules I established at the start. This character, however, is an exception.
“Death Note” is a highly-acclaimed anime and manga franchise, which sort of toes the line between crime/mystery drama and supernatural horror. The plot focuses on a Villain Protagonist: Light Yagami, a.k.a. Kira. Light is a precocious young man with a lot of high ideals: he sees the world as a corrupt place, and wishes there was a way to right the wrongs and bring true justice to the people. This desire gets twisted and warped when he comes into possession of the titular Death Note: a notebook with a very dark and dangerous magical ability. Whenever someone’s name is written in the Death Note…they die. And the person who writes the name down can even choose how and when they die, if they so wish. Light realizes the book has the power to grant him the justice he craves so much; consumed by the Death Note’s power, he goes mad and becomes the serial killer “Kira,” using its power to destroy anybody he deems unfit of living in the world he wants to create…or just anybody who gets in his way.
Light does not go unchallenged in the series, and this is where our contender for today comes into play: a mysterious private investigator known simply as “L.” This young fellow is a foil to Light, in a lot of ways: Light is seemingly normal, well-spoken, clean-cut, and conventionally attractive. L, in contrast, is a reclusive little hobgoblin obsessed with computers and candy. What both share is the fact they are each geniuses, both wiser and more clever than their youthful years would indicate. L becomes determined to solve the case of Kira, and it’s his actions and choices that create much of the conflict Light must face on his self-righteous and deadly quest.
Much of the show revolves around the concept of a single word I’ve used here already: “justice.” All of the major characters have their own philosophies and outlooks on what “true justice” really is. Light believes justice is as simple as punishing the guilty; as he is corrupted by the power the Death Note brings to him, he comes to think that the only way one can achieve true justice is to eliminate all of one’s enemies, so that those you care about can be rewarded and saved. L believes much the same, but he sees it from a different point of view: he believes Kira should be punished for his crimes, because that is what “true justice” is, regardless of his motivations. However, L is not a pure and simple hero in this story; he does things that are legally and ethically questionable in his pursuit of putting Kira behind bars. His ideal of justice is set up by the precedent that murder is wrong, and therefore catching murderers is just; how one actually goes about doing that is not something he really cares about on the whole.
Another thing that makes L interesting is his relationship with Light: while the two are dead serious about destroying one another, each comes to see the other as probably the closest thing either has ever had to a real, true friend. Indeed, there are, one could argue, subtle implications of romance between the pair. This makes what happens to L later in the manga and the anime even more tragic, because – SPOILER ALERT – in both, L does not survive the entire series. However, even after he dies, he’s far from done with Light Yagami, as things L did before his destruction ultimately do lead to Kira’s downfall. In the words of a different story, “Neither can live while the other survives.” Their twin paths ultimately result in mutual destruction, which is wonderfully poetic. I would argue the musical of Death Note (yes, there IS a musical, and it’s actually pretty good) does this even better than either the anime OR the manga…but that’s another story for another time.
Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 19!
CLUE: “Everyone has thought about killing someone, one way or another.”

Preliminary Poll
Jin Kazama
Tumblr media
Submission reason:
Straight up assassinated and derailed my man's entire personality by making him contradict his entire character in the previous games, war crimes, lying to Eddy that he'll save his master, murdered some poor Spanish lady, probably killed some other people, and also made him mean to his friends (Hwoarang and Xiaoyu). The creators fucking screwed him over so badly and destroyed his reputation amongst fans just to hype up this new character named Lars who turns out be Heihachi's son. Then they also sidelined him in Tekken 7 to focus more on Heihachi and Kazuya, Jin had almost no screen time. Jin spends the entire game in a come and he also needs to be saved by Hwoarang like a damsel in distress. Jin was the Princess Peach of Tekken 7. So many Tekken characters in general got done dirty (Asuka and Xiaoyu being sidelined so other characters like Lars, Alisa, and Lee could shine). I just think they did Jin the dirtiest. It was so bad that most Tekken fanfiction I read is canon divergent because some of the fans including me pretty much embraced that the creators screwed him over. It's sad how fanfiction and Netflix potray the Tekken characters especially Jin better than the recent games. The Tekken series in general really fell from grace after Tekken 5.
Propaganda:
They didn't have to ruin Jin's character to hype up Lars. Just have Jin leave the Zaibatsu after Tekken 5 to go find his mother and learn about his Kazama powers. Jin wanted to move on from his family drama and he wants to stop desiring revenge. Which leads to Heihachi conquering the Mishima Zaibatsu and starting a war with Kazuya's G Corporation. Kazuya and Heihachi unknowingly unleash Azazel by causing despair, and now they want to get Azazel's power. Lars leaves the Zaibatsu disgusted by Heihachi's actions. Eventually Jin finds his mother, only to watch in horror as society goes to shit. Lars gets Jin to join his rebel army to stop Heihachi. Jin joins Lars's side out of guilt for not stopping Heihachi sooner. Sometimes, all it takes to fix the lore is simply replace one or two characters so the events fit in better with the established personalities and storylines of these characters.
