Darkest London Couple Power Rankings Part I
Because I am actually kind of obsessed with this series, 3/7 books in.
Winston and Poppy Lane, Winterblaze. Perfect disaster marriage, giving HARD Rick and Evie teas if Rick had been physically and psychologically scarred until he cracked and Evie put her job before her relationship. They're pissed at each other while also wanting to rip each other's clothes off for half the book. Maybe the worst detectives I've ever read, but passionately about each other and achingly intimate in a way that's only earned through a 14-yer relationship. They have a huge fight and then he pops into the carriage and is like "lemme massage your feet". 10/10 "now there's a good wife" stars.
Ian Ranulf and Daisy Craigmore, Moonglow. Big snarky wounded werewolf guy chasing around bouncy, defiant widow who all of society sees as a big ol' slut because she's hot and likes to have fun. Has one of the funniest interrupted sex scenes I've ever read (Kristen Callihan loves a "he's BALLS DEEP" interrupted sex scene, where the only thing interrupted is his orgasm). But also, a couple of the most emotional scenes I've ever read? Only inched below Poppy and Winston by a hair. This is empirically a perfect couple.
Benjamin Archer and Miranda Ellis, Firelight. Honestly? A great pairing, especially for those who love a super sweeping romance. Archer sobbing in Miranda's arms is a banger. Miranda following Archer around their palatial mansion while he bleeds out until he lets her help him, only to reveal she doesn't actually know how to give someone stitches? Also a banger. Very Gothic, much drama, always surprisingly sweet.

Note
What are the names of these “girl what are you wearing” books? For science?
Whether for science or for funsies, the books are part of the Darkest London series by Kristen Callihan. The ones I’ve read so far are:
Firelight
Moonglow
Winterblaze (reading in progress)
I don’t recall Firelight having a “girl what are you wearing” moment but it did have a “this is the weirdest thing I’ve heard from a romance novel so far do people actually do this” moment. It was a not-kiss kiss. Or something. Listen, you’ll know it when you get to it.
If you read them, Anonymous, I hope you enjoy them!

❄️🌹Winterblaze🌹❄️
Tumblr media
I'm happy that you here with me, I'm sorry if I tear up
When me and you were younger, you would always make me cheer up
Taking goofy videos and walking through the park
You would jump into my arms every time you heard a bark
Cuddle in your sheets, sing me sound asleep
And sneak out through your kitchen at exactly 1:03
Sundays, went to church, on Mondays, watched a movie
Soon you'll be alone, sorry that you have to lose me
Don't stay awake for too long, don't go to bed
I'll make a cup of coffee for your head
It'll get you up and going out of bed
Faber Drive - Death Bed (coffee for your head)

🎄Romance Advent🎄 Day 15: Moonglow by Kristen Callihan
Tumblr media
One-sentence summary: Happily widowed and ready to hit the town, Daisy finds herself in the midst of supernatural chaos when she's rescued from a werewolf attack by another, much hotter werewolf/newfound sworn protector, the rakish Ian Ranulf.
Why read it: First off, the world in Kristen Callihan's Darkest London series is just fabulous. It feels like a Gothic Victorian Era, the supernatural underground doesn't totally disrupt the restrictions we love about historical romance, and it's full to the brim of action and passion. This one is a great entry point to the series (though the preceding book is also fab) and it leads into the gorgeous Winterblaze. But it's so heightened itself--Daisy and Ian are a perfect match, yet both (especially Daisy) remain too emotionally damaged to admit. Ian is in full denial of his true self; and Daisy is just discovering who she really is beyond secrets and a horrible marriage. I just really love a book where two people help each other become what they were always meant to be.
Lives rent-free in my brain: The first time Ian calls Daisy "Daisy-Meg" is a winner. So is the scene when they finally give in to their passions and he's getting her off in a carriage and then her sister (who HATES him) is banging on the carriage door like "GET A JOB!!!! LEAVE HER ALONE!!!!!"
