I’m just a boy, standing in front of the world, asking you to love him...and to not feed me. We have a lot of new members to #TeamPublicLands this summer and we are so glad you're out there enjoying nature. Just remember, even if the critters look cute, never give them food. The wildlife at public land sites don’t need your powdered donuts or “real cheese” flavored crackers, in fact, our human food will give these critters health problems and lead to poor well-being. Giving the wildlife food will also lead to negative encounters like bites and attacks. If you don’t believe us, just listen to the wildlife. “Keep your donuts, We’ve got nature’s nuts.” - Squirrely McCheeks Photo of squirrel eating nature’s nuts, by Kristin Burrill. Photo description: A squirrel at a national park stands between two rocks and eats a nut while it holds it with both paws.

29/10/2021-Lakeside walks and home
I took the first picture in this photoset of lovely Goldfinches on the bird feeder in the garden just before my lunch time Lakeside walk a nice moment watching them. I took the second-sixth pictures in this photoset of views with smashing bits of autumnal colour at Lakeside once more and a nice green plant which looked interesting. I noticed this plant whilst enjoying the mallow still looking nice and pink which I noticed behind the visitor centre on yesterday’s walk.
I walked on as a shower came on and enjoyed getting another very intimate view of the Great Crested Grebe family on Concorde lake it was a precious few moments seeing them again. As I enjoyed taking in my surroundings as the last bits of this downpour fell I noticed the bright looking chamomile in the seventh picture in this photoset which looked lovely. On the way out down the central path between the fenced off areas I was thrilled to notice two more of my favourite birds and two more of the birds of the moment Green Woodpecker and Jay with lovely views of both flying and for the Jay on the ground a bit too as I drunk in the scene of it looking at it in the binoculars and thoroughly enjoying this. When home some fresh pink snapdragons were a nice sight to see growing at the front of the house these are found in the gaps in the paving around here quite a bit but I hadn’t seen one at this specific bit before so this was nice I tweeted a photo of these on Dans_Pictures tonight.
As I mentioned on Monday today was the last day I could do an evening walk which I try to do on Fridays with the clocks going back this weekend, a working week day immediately local evening walk for pleasure/with my camera and binoculars at least, until the lighter days next spring. It was a very enjoyable walk at twilight in which with mud on the ground and colour in the trees, it was every inch the Friday evening before the last day of British Summer Time. Whilst really making the most of it and taking in my surroundings again I also liked seeing oak leaves illuminated by the evening sunlight I have enjoyed focusing on these famous leaves a lot lately. Interestingly as I mentioned on Monday as I did another evening walk for this week to mark the final week of BST how some of my favourite evening walks this year were ones initially intended to view House Martins flying over the northern path at Lakeside but in the end I saw Purple Hairstreaks a monumental butterfly moment of my year, as I walked along the grass north of the site to go into Lakeside I found myself right beside two of the first few trees where I noticed the hairstreaks dancing along the tree tops but the green of midsummer was now replaced by some autumnal colour which also showed the turning of the year well.
I saw a nice Wren tonight and believe I saw one at lunch time too. I hope you all have a good weekend.
Wildlife Sightings Summary: Three of my favourite birds the Jay, Green Woodpecker and Great Crested Grebe, Mallard, Moorhen, Black-headed Gull, Goldfinch, Starling, House Sparrow, Wren, Woodpigeon, Collared Dove, Magpie, Jackdaw and Carrion Crow.

natgeo Video by @bertiegregory| Antarctic fur seals whizz about in the turquoise glacial waters of South Georgia Island in the South Atlantic Ocean. After Captain Cook put South Georgia on the map in 1775, he sent word back to England of enormous numbers of seals. A brutal massacre then followed peaking in 1800 when 112,000 pelts were taken in just a single season. This harvest continued until the seals were hunted down to just 400 individuals. Since then, they've had protection and have bounced back to over 3 million! It's so awesome to see a conservation success story in a world where wildlife really needs our help. Shot as part of a new online series for National Geographic coming soon. Follow @bertiegregoryfor more wildlife adventures!
