!!!WARNING: LONG POST!!!
I am certain Alucard would have called an end to their duel, had Anderson put down the nail. Because Alucard has no intention of pushing Anderson to the point he dies.
"An unlimited amount of chances" and Anderson's allowed to back out whenever he wants.
This is a consistency in all their duels.
From the first; in which Anderson takes his leave because he's not ready to face Alucard;
And Alucard doesn't loose an ounce of respect for him;
To the second; Where Anderson suggests they stop because it's not the right time or place.
And Alucard agrees all the same. Without question or judgment.
And third; when Anderson suddenly stops mid fight, Alucard pauses as well.
even when the reason for Anderson's pause is purely because he isn't there for a fight.
Every time they meet up with eager energy, followed by parting without ordeal. Not once does Alucard force Anderson to fight him.
And Anderson knows this, to the point he's comfortable asking Alucard to put their duel on hold. Or stop mid way with his back turned without explanation. He trusts Alucard, and in doing so acknowledges Alucard as more then a Monster.
Anderson has earned Alucard's respect and admiration. Alucard doesn't think any less of Anderson when he stops their duel, and has no reason to, because the next time they meet its with with weapons drawn and a fiery passion.
Their final duel is no different.
When Maxwell dies, Alucard's ghouls are subdued. Anderson walks through them and sits with Maxwell to mourn. Not once does Alucard fight him. Nor does Anderson draw his weapons on Alucard.
He could have left with the rest of the Vatican, and Alucard would have understood and accepted that.
Because come their duel? Alucard pauses. As though checking base with how Anderson's holding up. If he's still capable of continuing, or if he wants to flee.
But when Anderson tells him to stop pausing for his sake and actually fight him?
It isn't because he has to. They both know it. Which is why Alucard's once more struck by awe to such an extreme. Because Anderson's actively choosing to put extreme strain on himself for the sake of fulfilling Alucard's dream.
Alucard respects and admires Anderson. So when the Nail of Helena is drawn to Anderson's own heart. He panics. Because he doesn't want Anderson to suffer his fate, nor see his dream lost.
And Anderson does stop. He stops and lets Alucard speak. Lets his words hold weight without interruption. And in doing so treats Alucard as an equal with meaning and worth rather then a mere monster.
He acknowledges Alucard and he respect Alucard when he replies. Explaining himself with a softened pitying expression.
his explanation portrays two key things beyond what's said;
1) He explains that he isn't doing this to hurt Alucard. Against what Alucard persumed.
2) He's doing it for himself. He knows the consequences, he knows what he's doing, and its in his intrest. Not for Alucard. Not for religion.
But when paired with that softened expression; in which he meets Alucard's gaze. Listens and replies despite his heart already being set. 1 reads as an appology. And 2 reads as reassurance.
After all, its harder to pity a person who willingly desires and acts to become a monster. Even though its Anderson's personal understanding, directly paralleling Alucard, that is exactly why Anderson pities him.
There isn't a thing Alucard could say or do to convince Anderson with such an explanation in mind. Because its built upon a dilemma within Anderson himself. A monster impossible to escape, impossible to fight, and it becomes all consuming through time and expirience. The weight of a human life.
Their dynamic is built for death, but not with the intent to hurt.
If it hurts to keep fighting? If Anderson were to stop? To leave? Alucard would let him. He doesn't want Anderson to suffer, in the same way Anderson wishes to end Alucard's suffering.
So he could have left. He could have called it all off.
But he doesn't. Because at that point, fighting is the only thing that isn't painful. Maxwell forced him to question his role to church and his impact on the orphanage. But fighting Alucard is a familiar song and dance that's without question and is capable of providing comfort when all else is conflict. For their duels are conflict without conflict.

An idea I had, but I can't turn into an one-shot for now.
~
Alucard: Pray, can you repair these? *puts on Hector's table armor, sword and shielf worn by time*
Hector, looking at them: The craftmanship is incredible! The iron is pure, and look at the intricate detail of the hilt! Yes, they are not in bad conditions at all, it is only a matter of removing the rust...
Alucard: Thank you, Hector. This equipment belonged to my mother. She may have made no use of it, but as her heir, it's my responsibility now to take good care of it.
Hector: Lady Lisa? ... I see. I will make sure that they return to their rightful owner not a second too late.
Alucard: There is no need to rush on my account, Hector. I understand that you are under an undeserved amount of pressure.
Hector: It's no trouble at all. I owe it to Lady Lisa and how much she did for me... for all of us. *pause* I did care about her.
Alucard: ... And she did about you, as if you were her own son. *looks away, clearly in pain*
Hector: Forgive me, Young Master, I did not mean to upset you...
Alucard: You did not wrong me in the slightest. *looks at Hector* Hector. You are wasting away in this place. My father... is no longer a person worthy of admiration. He is barely a person anymore. He's using you and Isaac to trample over my mother's wishes. ... I cannot edge a word against Isaac, but you are not like him.
Hector, after a long pause: I... I owe my life to my Lord. But I must confess... I am not sure about what is asking of me. I had never imagined I would be tasked with slaying my own kind... That is not what...
Alucard: My mother's last words to me were a plead to leave humans be. "For theirs is already a hard lot". My father refused to listen to them, but I believe you to be a far better man than he is. *nods* I thank you again for taking care of my mother's equipment: I will make sure to pay you appropriately...
Hector: Are you jesting, Young Master?! No, I refuse. I will do it for Lady Lisa and for you, not any sort of reward.
Alucard: *smiles* This is why I trust you to do the right thing.

Have you seen The Amazing Digital Circus yet?
If so, what's your opinion on it?
I LOVE TADC! It’s my favorite indie show at the moment! There’s just so much I like about it but my main ones are
1. The setting and execution being unique.
A horror-like project taking place in an late 90s/early 2000s digital game is not a new idea and same goes with characters being stuck in a purgatory however it’s how the artists reinvent those idea that makes it new. The digital Circus made its own aesthetic that makes it stand out from other projects with similar concepts and designs. When I first watched the pilot, one of many things that stuck out to me was how new the story ideas felt. I couldn’t think of any other pieces of media similar to TADC beside for surface-level comparisons. The TADC created its own aesthetic and knows what it wants to be and I like it!
2. Soundtrack.
Speaks for itself, the soundtrack for the pilot is so good especially Your New Home. That song is very catchy and emotional too. It has such a unique melody, everytime you hear the first few notes you instantly recognize it. It does a great job highlighting the dread and existentialism crisis of Pomni’s situation. I recommend to give it a listen if you haven’t.
3. The characters dynamics.
I just love how the characters interact with each other. The majority of the jokes comes from characters’ interactions and dynamics and how well everyone plays off of each other. The best example is Jax with everyone, Jax is a funny jerk who likes bullying his peers. It’s funny to see what creative ways Jax will bully the other people whether it’s being sarcastic and making quips at them, or though goofy pranks and how the characters react because of their contrast in personality. Every character beside Jax is openly stressed or worried in someway while Jax, at first seem like a chill layback dude.
4. The characters differences.
I adored the differences between each character from how they talk to their poses. After watching HH and HB, I learned to have an appreciation for character differences. It’s just refreshing to see characters allowed to be different instead of the same tired reused tropes and repeating the same type of dialogue again for every character.
5. Mystery and lore.
There is so much to explore in the pilot, it’s make you wanting more. When going in to watch the pilot, I made the mistake of thinking the series will be predictable. I didn’t see how they could make this premise work because by the end of it, Pomni will go insane but then I watched the pilot and was speechless. The pilot does a good job setting up questions for the audience to ask. If Caine lied about the exit, what are other things did he lied about? How long has the cast been stuck in the circus? Who are these people? Are they previous game developers? Who were they in their previous lives? What is the company’s motivation to create the headset? What are the abstractions in game? Are they viruses to the game program? Who were the former cast? What horrors has Kinger seen to be as paranoid and easily frighten as he is now? Do the abstractions still have a consciousness? You just want to find out more about the lore to solve the many mysteries in the show. I find it impressive Gooseworx was able to stir up the theorists because they have admitted in an ask, there are already theories floating around that are almost right about the show.
One problem I did have for the pilot were the scenes containing the Gloink Queen. The pacing of the pilot was fine until we got to her then it was slow. I feel it dragged longer than it needed too but beside that, my issues for the pilot ends.
I can’t speak for the fandom on other platforms but the tumblr one is great! Most of the time everyone is being respectful towards each other and I love seeing what creative theories, AU, fanfics, and art the fans created. The only people causing drama are the anti-shippers, and it’s just dumb. All of the cast are adults, if age gaps ships makes people uncomfortable, that’s valid but they shouldn’t make it into other people’s problems. Gooseworx themselves admitted they don’t care for romance and they don’t want fans in the fandom getting harassed over shipping.
Overall despite what issues I had for the pilot and fandom, they’re overshadowed by the positives and I can’t wait to see the full show and the fandom’s growth.
