Hi there! I recently came across whump community and tags and I'm interested to contribute my writings here too. But I have no idea how to start, and if any idea of mine is original. I checked out a few upcoming whump events too and I think maybe I can participate in them?
Can you please provide any tips and information about this genre and help me out? Thank you.
hello! nice to meet you! it’s always lovely to hear from other people trying to start in the whump community.
honestly, i just kind of started posting my work. i gave my ocs tags, and released them into the wild. idk if you write for fandoms, ocs, or a mixture of both, but there’s always going to be an audience who’ll want to read your writing.
all whump is going to be similar or related somehow, but everyone writes slightly differently so you don’t need to worry about your work not being original, im sure it is. i think the most important thing about posting whump writing online is just making sure you’ve tagged properly, since we write about a lot of stuff that’s potentially triggering. past that, you just need the courage to go for it! i spend most of my time scrolling the whump tag, so im bound to come across writing by all sorts of people. if you posted your work id definitely see it (that being said, if you wanted to tag me when you post, id definitely love to see it).
im pretty sure the next upcoming whump events are the april ones, like whumpril? im planning on participating and ive got the first few days queued, so that might be a good time to get started? it’s pretty close tho so idk. that’s for you to decide.
so in conclusion, go for it! i’d love to be tagged if you don’t mind me seeing your work lmao
thank you so much for the ask!

Hello! Hope you are having a good new year. Do you have prompt suggestions for a Conditioned Whumpee learning how to be human again. It’s in a recovery center-like setting, if that helps
Thank You!
Of course, sorry this took a bit
I like the idea that a recovery center would be divided into sectors, based on the stage of recovery and initial conditioning. Like the really bad cases will go to one part, while the more mild or partially recovered would go to another
In the “bad cases” hallway, nothing sharp, ever. No hard dresser corners, no forks or knives, nothing that a Whumpee could accidentally or purposely hurt themself or anyone else with.
Lots of controlled aspects, but it’s designed to take on the guise of freedom. For example, “bedtime” isn’t an actual time, but a range. They’re allowed to go to sleep anywhere between eight and, say, ten. There’s a few options for meals, not enough to be overwhelming but enough to force them to choose.
With the bad cases, they try to do a one-on-one approach, where each Whumpee has a solid support system/caretaker they can learn to rely on and genuinely connect with.
I can imagine the rooms being small, not a claustrophobic kind but like, comfortable. Soft carpet, pastel walls, doors that can shut but don’t lock.
When they get a bit better, they’re allowed a few more liberties. They get moved to a more social wing, and are allowed things such as access to a common room where there’s games, a tv, just general “luxuries”. Same with a garden, almost entire day and night access to food/the kitchens. They slowly get rehabilitated into doing things that they lost the ability for, fine motor skills, reading, independence, what not
There’s “rules” and then there’s the rules. The “rules”, they are encouraged to break, which are just minor, insignificant things while the actual rules are similar to those that would be present in any public situation
Breaking the rules obviously have consequences, but it’s more so removing privileges, not actual consequences. Maybe they don’t get dessert one night, or maybe they get garden access revoked for a few days.
There will obviously be therapy, both mental and physical, but it’s designed in a way so it doesn’t seem like a professional setting.
Assuming this ask was based along some sort of pet-whump lines, I guess de-conditioning from restraints/collars will be a big thing. The slow transition from metal to leather, to cloth, to eventually nothing. Going at Whumpee’s pace, while still pressing them lightly for progress.
Yeah I really can’t think of anything else, without restating kinda the ideas I already put out. Hope this helps somewhat!

Hi hi, I was the one with a scenario. It is kinda long and it's a somewhat detailed but I like it. And I hope you do too. <3
So (somewhat defiant) Whumpee ends up in a secret lab run by Whumper. They are one of dozens of people trapped there and there are several doctors and nurses to help with the experiments (some volunteering, some being forced into it one way or another.)
Caretaker is Whumpee's doctor in the lab who is sympathetic and tries to comfort them when things are particularly tough. Caretaker doesn't seem to want to be there, they mention that Whumper has blackmail but doesn't really elaborate. Throughout the time that Caretaker and Whumpee spend with each other, Caretaker starts to develop romantic feelings for them, and bit by bit Whumpee starts to reciprocate. (Though they are generally hesitant in relationships.)
Whumper seems to notice, and pushes the two together so he can further manipulate both of them. If Caretaker has a partner that is an experiment then they might be willing to do things that they otherwise wouldn't, just to save their partner some suffering. If Whumpee has a partner that is a doctor then they might be a bit more cooperative to ensure that their partner doesn't suddenly become an experiment as well.
The twist though? Caretaker is actually Whumper. They are the ones in charge of everything. They took the role of Caretaker in order to get more information and to get Whumpee more reliant on someone they trust. Thing is... Whumper/Caretaker didn't expect to actually catch feelings...
Hello anon! I love this so much!!
I love the idea of a Whumper undercover trying to get more information. And maybe being able to see this other side of Whumpee through the lens of a caretaker is what made them realize they had feelings for Whumpee in the first place.
Maybe Whumpee starts making escape plans, and they try to convince Caretaker to run away with them and get out of here. And Caretaker/Whumper has to figure out if their feelings for Whumpee will win, or if they’ll keep them here forever. Or maybe their feelings make them want to keep Whumpee here for even longer...
I’m obsessed. So much potential! Also just, the sense of betrayal Whumpee gets when they inevitably discover Whumper’s secret. Maybe it’s an oversight on Whumper’s part, or maybe it’s something they dramatically reveal. Who knows. Maybe they even use it as a part of a experiment…

Friend needs cheering up?! *busts in your window with your favorite food and drinks*
So gush about your favorite whump tropes!!! 👀
-- @whumperofworlds
Thank you 🥹 you brought my favorites I see!
*slurping and munching noises*
So, my favorite whump tropes…
Well, I love an unequal power dynamic. Especially when it comes to the NSFW side of things. Rarely is consent asked in these circumstances, and if it is, does the disadvantaged party really have any choice but to say yes? Do they have the freedom to say no?
I love bondage because I am a human being with eyes and a working blood circulatory system. Idk how to fully explain it, but when I saw Aladdin at the impressionable age of …what, like four?… that was it for me. Just didn’t know what it was called or that I didn’t have to be embarrassed about it until semi-recently.
I also love culture whump, particularly as it pertains to language barriers. I haven’t published anything on this blog about it yet, but in my personal copy of Whumpee and Whumper’s stories (Khaled and Thomas), they can’t understand each other. One has limited English comprehension, the other doesn’t even know what language his pet is speaking. Of course, this changes as the story goes on, Khaled becomes fluent and forgets his natal tongue (with some encouragement), and that makes it all the harder on him when he’s eventually rescued and returned to his family.
Hang on to your hats, everyone, shit’s about to get real under the cut
My love of culture whump and language barriers probably stems from my long-underaddressed adoption trauma. I only just realized as I began seriously writing whump this last year that I also had my culture and my mother tongue ripped away from me without my consent, and, like my Whumpee, I may never be able to fully reclaim it in a way I would have if I had grown up within its framework my entire life. (No wonder I always write about it!) That is why, when my Whumpee recovers, he is never the same person he was before he was taken. But he is doing better than he was, even though his tongue stumbles clumsily around words his siblings could say in their sleep. He is happy enough. And that is enough.
Wow, making me emotional again. But it feels good to kind of lore dump/give backstory about the author now and again. And I do feel kinda better. So thanks!

im obsessed with waterboarding torture whump but i canNOT find much on it here on tumblr so i was wondering if i can have your twisted brilliant mind’s take on it……. /pos
Oh, YES! (and thank you 😈) this is gonna be a long one. I have some IDEAS.
Tw: waterboarding, panic, mentions of gasoline
Let's hit the ground running!
Waterboarding is fun, but it is so much better (in my opinion) when you go after someone who is especially susceptible to it. Someone who's afraid of the water, or has incompatible physical traits or powers.
Starting with water boarding the old fashioned way (we'll call it traditional) with the build up. The getting tied, or even better held, down on whumpee's back. I'm gonna lean into held down for how much more they can struggle. I think the amount of fear expressed can double if whumpee actually manages to get an arm free before it's grabbed back and pinned twice as rough.
You need to show that whumpee is desperate. They are convinced this is going to kill them. They are screaming, or growling, or maybe they snap (does your whumpee bite?). This just makes the whumpers laugh. "Damn, we got a live one."
Then the cloth goes over their face and and they feel like they're going to have a heart attack, whumpee is actually crying at this point, hyperventilating (which will only make it worse when the water arrives). The terror is so strong it hurts.
Let us recall that covering whumpee's eyes can make things exponentially worse. They can no longer predict and brace for whatever it is. It can come at any time and that kind of terror can do half the whumper's work for them. So keep things unpredictable.
From there it's a simple process for whumper. Half drown whumpee, demand information they cannot give, put the cloth back, rinse and repeat.
Whumpee feels like they are drowning and dying and being dragged back again. This is their own personal hell, and there is no escape. I like to wonder how much energy they'd have, and if eventually they'd fall limp. Whumpee no longer has the strength to fight back and now they're sobbing and just waiting to die.
I love when it's a fierce character who's breaking to this as well. They started out cursing everyone out and trying to claw at their captors and they've been reduced to begging and incoherent runs of "No no no no no no! Not again!! STOP! STOP-"
So I said before this was the traditional method, let's branch out a bit:
- I once read a very inspired whump post about using gasoline to waterboard someone, and holy shit I wanna write about that! (I was unfortunately unable to find the original post.) Just imagine how much more it burns. Choking on gas. Then whumper gets to threaten them by holding up a match.
- there's also holding someone under water. I don't prefer this necessarily, but it's a fun option if you don't have the means of restraining whumpee on their back. You could do this anywhere, and if you press their head down just right you can make sure they can still hear whumper as they make their demands.
- I could go on and on about water based whump, but for now I'll cut it here! Happy whumping!!!

do you have any whump series recommendations?
I have a few, I'd say!! I don't dabble in the community all too often, since I'm scared I'm gonna clog up people's notifs in the process of going absolutely insane about their works n stuff. but I'll name a few I've taken a look at (most are made by mutuals) or have read from the top of my head!!!
The Last Lab Rat by @whumpy-wyrms is a really good option if you like lab whump, carewhumpers (?)and a bunch of failed escape attempts! Blood Runs Cold is made by xem as well, and it's just recently sprung into action, so I'd recommend that as well if you prefer vampires and immortal whumpees :3
The Angel of Death by @whumpninja is also a series that's recently begun, and it's really good! the underlying and vague jokes and puns are something I've never really read in the few whump series' I've taken a look at, but it's amazing nonetheless. if you like vampires and feral whumpees, along with a bit of institutionalized whump I think?? sorry if I got that wrong but anyway, I think this'd be down your lane :3
Spiderwebs by @toyybox next! the way she uses vocab is amazing and I'll never shut up about this! now, I haven't read all of Spiderwebs yet, so I'm kinda going in this blind, but if you like stoic whumpers and kind-of-equally as stoic whumpees (also an immortal whumpee who doesn't quite know about the immortal part), along also with lab whump — can you tell I like lab whump? — then I'd recommend this :3
hmmm okay so there's four series' there, so I'll keep it at that from the ones I can name from the top of my head :D!!! thank you for the ask!

🎹 - Do you utilize whump to sleep?
Yes! To the extent that every night I look forward to special imagination time where I can just think about characters AND if I fall asleep too quickly I am bummed the next night and try to correct haha. I live in a studio apartment and whenever people sleep over and I don’t get special imagination time I actively mourn it.

20: …it’s pain or nothing for me :) , but if the ‘comfort’ is actually filled with soul crushing recovery angst (or perhaps more whump)— I’ll absolutely be interested (reading a fic with that rn, it’s fantastic)

Self-Sacrifice
BET
(TW: mentions of past torture, manhandling, blood, broken bones, a little bit of throwing up)
Whumper 1 thinks it would have been smarter to leave with whumpee. Just remove his tie, leave his gun at the doorstep, and vanish without a trace. Leave the pulled-out teeth and rusted manacles behind.
But of course, everything comes at a price, and there is a huge price to pay when it comes to whumpee.
Anyone with half a brain cell would know to keep their distance from their captive. It's common sense. Whumper 1 thumps his closed fist on his forehead. Fucking common sense.
"What did you do?" whumper 2 yells. After realizing there's no way he can go after whumpee within the hour, his anger, like molten lava, spills out. "You've ruined everything." He throws the first thing he picks up. A hammer.
Whumper 1 flinches away. He'd been resting with his back against the locked garage door. He curses under his breath since cutting whumper 2's path also meant trapping himself in the garage.
Sweating and panting, he tastes oil in the back of his throat. There's no way out but through. He curls up to cover his head while keeping a wrench hidden inside his jacket.
Whumper 2 is already thumping around and finds a pair of pliers.
It hits its mark square on Whumper 1's shoulder, hard enough to rattle the metal door behind him. He screams. On all fours, his screams turn into gags and gasps as he holds his shoulder close. Adrenaline fueled by desperation makes his knees scrape across cement and move. As if there's anywhere to run.
Choking on spit and blood (and maybe both), whumper 1 is hauled up by the hair.
"I did not know you could be this damn stupid," whumper 2 says.
"It wasn't right," whumper 1 rasps. Stupid. He is damn stupid. Whumpee never even looked back. "You made me do it."
"Fell in love with him, did ya, lover boy?"
Whumper 1 shoots him a disgusted look. It morphs into pain when his throat is punched.
"Don't look at me like that. After what you did? Naww." Whumper 2 is quick to seize the wrench that he'd been trying to hide valiantly, blood making his hands slippery. "Is this what you used on whumpee? I'm guessing you want to keep it, as some trophy. Or maybe a future Valentine's day gift? Now, that's an idea."
"Maybe—" he coughs, much to whumper 2's amusement." Maybe I smash your—"
Whumper 2 hammers the wrench into his shoulder. "Couldn't catch what you're mumbling there, bud. Speak up."
Whumper 1's lungs constrict, shying away from the pain. His eyes flutter shut, but whumper 2 is having none of it.
"Hello?" he smacks his cheek. Then cringes at the blood smeared on his fingers. He shakes his head. "I shouldn't have let a moron like you be in charge of whumpee. That's my fault. But goddamn, you actually," he bangs whumpee 1's head on the door, "went ahead and," another shove, "let them escape." The bangs that followed could have killed whumper 1.
As soon as he is let go, whumper 1 cradles his head. The numbness spreading on his nape can't be good. And he's not stupid enough to lay there and wait for whumper 2 to keep going. He starts to crawl away the moment whumper 2 gets up.
"Where do you think you're going? Your little noble sacrifice cost me a lot," whumper 2 kicks him in the chest. "You're gonna fucking die here."

Thank you for the ask!!
🤕 : What's a physical whump scene/trope that you enjoy?
Cabbage, you want me to CHOOSE?? Well, if you insist...mm, probably semiconsciousness. If we're talking about an injury specifically, then I'll have to go with the thought of Caretaker accidentally seeing a brutal scar on Whumpee while treating another injury, and asking a very resistant Whumpee about its origin later.

Favorite lab whump tropes? 👀
Oh good lord, immediately going for the heart of it, huh?
Love it when whumpee is just treated coldly, almost like an object even, like they get thrown around, their begging goes wholly ignored, maybe a few annoyed glances or pitying looks. But no one makes a move to help.
I think for the most part its the fear of it, the helplessness. The sterile environment, professional in all ways except the screams and the crying, the sheer pain and emotion felt in a place many would describe as cold and emotionless.
Then the whumpers. All types of whumpers. There's the sadistic ones, the ones that enjoy torturing their human test subject. There's the most common ones, i think, who maintain a more or less professional demeanor, only have a lab whumpee because its required of them, and they're fine with that. It's for science, after all. I'm also fond of the cold scientific method whumper, who might as well just see whumpee as another fruit fly to experiment on. And they do the tests over and over and over again, because the scientific method requires it.
Then whumpee being led into the lab for the first time. They've been debriefed on their role here as a test subject and they already tried to escape, so now they've been bound and they're helpless as they're led through this shiny and pristine lab to an operating table with an absurd amount of straps on it. Scary machinery around it, the scientists are already there waiting for them. Some missed spots of blood staining the floor around the table, and suddenly the screams they heard earlier start to make sense.
OR OR whenever whumpee is fighting hard so the scientist(s) just sigh and pull out a syringe (or better yet a gas mask, or even better, a tube to plug into a cannula already implanted in whumpee's arm) and you get to see all the color drain from whumpee's face as they realize what's about to happen and they stumble backward but eventually there's nowhere left to go and the scientist is upon them, pressing whatever drug delivery method into their body, whumpee cringing and pressing against the wall trying to get away, maybe trying to hold their breath against the drugged gas or block the needle about to pierce their skin, but it doesn't work and soon their body betrays them and starts getting very tired and the already cold, bright setting of the lab around them starts to go colder and dark.
(I got carried away at the end there lol. I love lab whump, its so good. Had to cut myself off. Pretty sure I answered the question though, kinda just made some story ideas lmao.)

△ What is Foster’s most painful moment of existance? 👀
-Comet ☄️ (@untetheredsymphony)
"The whole.. fighting ring part of my life was the most physically painful. Nasty wounds every day, but I had to make money one way or another, y'know?"
Foster's eyes visibly darkened as they continued, "but the most psychologically — mentally? one or the other — painful was when my parents died. More so, when I found out my little captor's fucking father killed them. I uh, I was young when it happened, but... it still sticks with me.
"10 / 10 for the rating. If I could've, I wouldn't have answered. But I don't think my creator would've liked that."
