We love it when an injured character winces as they try (unsuccessfully) to sit up. It's a popular trope for a reason.
I would also like to draw your attention to when it hurts to lay down. Yes, they'll definitely be more comfortable lying down than sitting up, or maybe they're so exhausted they could barely stay upright even if they wanted to. But getting there? Maybe they have a friend there to help with an hand behind their back, maybe they have to lean on their arms and try to slowly ease themselves down without pulling or jarring anything too much. Either way though, there are winces and grimaces and sharp intakes of breath, and muscles shaking and tensing and maybe suddenly giving out on them. And at the end, finally sinking into the mattress or makeshift bed, their jaw is still clenched and eyes squeezed shut and breath coming in short gasps and body rigid for several moments afterward as they wait for the pain to fade away.

Whump Prompts 130: Lab Whump Aesthetic
CW: lab whump (obviously), blood, self-harm, psychological/emotional whump, magic whump
The lab rat uniform: loose, drab, hanging on whumpee's frame like it doesn't feel comfortable there
Bloodstained, soiled clothing, the result of experimentation
Whumpee left naked in their cell as their uniform is washed
Whumpee arriving at the lab facility as a new subject and realizing that whumper will be experimenting on them, not with tools and drugs, but with dark magic
Inhuman whumpees losing whatever shreds of humanity they might have had as time and experiments continue and they're treated more and more like animals
Or, conversely, inhuman whumpees that become more human and exhibit more human emotions as they're mistreated
Whumpee forgetting their own name because they're only referred to by a subject number
Disorientation from drugs/experiment aftermath
Whumpee's sleep, the only time they're alone, being disrupted by nightmares about what's been done to them
Or, a whumpee who's never left alone, always watched, always under observation of some kind
Whumpee's skin slowly turning into a scarred, chaotic mess from cuts/syringes/injections, etc.
Whumpee seeing their own distress and pain mirrored in the glimpsed faces of other lab rats in the facility
Whumpee learning to see themself as nothing but a test subject
Bandages, sterile gauze, sterile lights, sterile everything
Whumpee being overwhelmed when they catch a glimpse of life outside the lab when visitors arrive
Waking up after an experiment, seeing bloodied instruments and wondering groggily what terrible thing whumper could have done to them now
Learning to damage their own body to foil whumper's plans
Whumpee becoming desensitized to whumper's drugs and needing higher and higher doses for them to work
No longer recognizing their own body after recovering from whumper's last experiment
Whumper leading lab rat whumpee to a mirror, after intentionally keeping them away, and letting them see how pathetic they've become
Or, whumpee looking in a mirror and realizing that whumper has turned them into a monster
Whumpee deciding that it's too late for them and they might as well embrace what they've become
Feel free to reblog and add on!

GOd i fucking love it when they won't stay down
When the whumpee fights back and they know how it ends, blood, broken bones, restraints but they get back up again anyway because they won't, can't stay down. They're given an ultimatum and maybe it’s almost fair, they could take it, walk away with only shattered pride but they tear it up, put their fists up, because they won’t go down without a fight.
They’ve got a black eye, a split lip and their arm shouldn’t look like that but they’re taunting the whumper, make me, I dare you. Their knees buckle and they hit the ground but it doesn't stick. They’re begging but it’s a for another fight, another round.
Maybe there’s a loved one, maybe it’s for their team or maybe they just don’t know what’s good for them. But they’re back up, swaying, fists bunched, spitting blood, fiery eyes.
You want a fight? Come and get one

A fun whump aesthetic: a character being helped out of heavy plate armor
Is it done fast, blood-slick fingers pulling at straps and hastily undoing buckles, the pieces thrown carelessly aside to be picked up later, time is running out and they need to get all that metal out of the way to treat the wound underneath?
Or slowly, gently, telling the character that shh, they can rest now, they've done their part and done it well, others will take it from here?
Harshly, on a captured enemy knight, forcibly stripping them of first their weapons and then their armor as they're fighting back tooth and nail, to put them in chains afterwards, vulnerable without their armor in the light, sweat-drenched shirt and arming jacket and breeches they wear underneath?

Whump Vibe/Visual
Caretaker rescuing injured Whumpee from Whumper’s facility. Henchmen combing the halls as they try to sneak their way out. Caretaker pressing Whumpee up against a wall for a moment to hide.
Their injuries jostled in just the wrong way or another wave of pain hits them and Whumpee almost lets out a groan. Caretaker notices and clamps a hand over their mouth muffling the sound as much as they can — apologizing through their eyes.
After a moment Caretaker lets go and Whumpee pants silently. Before they can get moving another wave hits Whumpee and they pull themself close to Caretaker, tucking their face into their shoulder. A hand clutches their wounded side and the other reaches up to grab a fistful of Caretaker’s jacket holding on for dear life as they bury their pained gasps in the fabric.

that whump aesthetic when a character is impeccably dressed except for the marks of a recent battle. leather watches and silver rings against wrapped wrists and scars on palms. bandages peeking out of sharply ironed collars or under freshly starched sleeves.

random whump aesthetic: the rattle of a teacup against a saucer because whumpee is shivering so badly that they can’t hold it steady (whether it’s from fever, fear, shock, cold, you decide!!!)

Hotel/motel Whump
Escaped/on the run whumpee laying low in a shabby motel, hiding black eyes and bloody noses from the person at the front desk, praying they don’t get the cops called on them.
Whumpee tied up and gagged in a bathroom, hearing guests and staff passing by outside the paper-thin walls, oblivious to whumpee’s muffled cries for help.
Caretaker running to the ice-machine with paper cups and plastic buckets, frantically filling the containers and rushing back to the room where whumpee lays with a too-high fever.
Caretaker paying for a nice hotel room, leaving whumpee speechless at both caretaker’s kindness, and the ‘luxury’ of the place. Maybe they wrap themselves up in the clean white sheets, or finally take a warm shower, or relax their aching muscles in the hot tub/pool.
Whumper herding whumpee inside a motel, asking for a room while whumpee attempts to signal to the person at the desk that they’re being kidnapped. The person plays along for a minute, appearing horrified and concerned, before their mask cracks and they laugh along with whumper, joking about how much fun whumper is going to have breaking whumpee.
Paranoid whumpee barricading the door to their room with anything they can find, untrusting of the flimsy latch. Even then, maybe they stay awake the entire night, too anxious to sleep.

Another hurt/comfort aesthetic: half-closed eyes
Feverish from an infected injury, with glazed eyes rolling erratically under half-closed lids; they’re semi-conscious and barely coherent, moaning softly in pain, limbs writhing weakly, and they only quiet when Caretaker holds their hand / strokes their forehead / cradles their head in their lap.
Eyes narrowed, head bowed and shoulders hunched against the driving rain/snow, barely able to make out the way in front of them as they constantly blink precipitation out of their eyes, stumbling with pain/fatigue as they flee from danger or seek out safety/shelter.
Sinking down into the chair, letting their head fall back and their eyelids drift downwards and all the tension in their body melt away, just enjoying being warm and dry and safe after a harrowing journey or a difficult mission.
Exhausted caretaker who has stayed at whumpee’s side all night listening anxiously for each rasping breath, watching each shallow rise and fall of their torn and bloody chest; again and again caretaker feels their eyelids start to close and their head start to droop but each time they jerk themself awake...

Whump Prompts 80: Gothic Illness Aesthetic
Feel free to reblog and add on if you think of something :)
FAINTING
Whumpee examined by the doctor, listening to their lungs and checking their temperature
Whumpee stripped down so others can help them change their clothes, leaving whumpee bare and vulnerable and unable to sit up by themselves
Loose white nightgowns and white shirts
Pale, ashen skin, eyes ringed with dark circles, sunken cheeks
Long, damp hair plastered to a feverish forehead
A dim bedroom, curtains closed, a single candle or lamp burning
Whumpee lying on their back in a large, ornate bed, surrounded by white sheets
Feverish mumbling in their sleep, head jerking from side to side with delirium
BLOODLETTING
Being spoon-fed broth or gruel that they’re barely able to eat
Whumpee being bathed because they’re too weak to do it themselves
Various medicines perched on the sidetable
Hushed voices in the sickie’s bedroom, trying not to disturb them
Coughing fits, muffled by a white handkerchief
COUGHING UP BLOOD
Fevered nightmares
Whumpee lying silent and still under the bedclothes, while others keep vigil
Whumpee venturing out of their room for the first time, leaning on the banister as they try to get down the long staircase
Whumpee unable to sleep because they’re uncomfortable, wandering through the big house and empty rooms, slightly delirious
Slow meandering walks through the garden as they convalesce

I see the caretaker with their warm, damp compress on the whumpee's forehead a lot but rarely one over the eyes. Can confirm it's comforting

God, I love it when the whumpee falls...
It's the space between the ground and them, the seconds and the eternity it takes for them to fall.
What falls with them? Their pride, resistance, dignity?
What’s left by the time they hit the ground?
Pistolwhipped, Backhanded. Pain splits lips and they fall. Blood paints the ground before they hit it.
A shove from behind. Standing- kneeling- crumpled on the ground.
Maybe it's slow, careful. Put your hands up, kneel. "Slower!" Don’t slip, don’t make this your last move.
A bullet. Blood sprays and they crumple, hitting the ground, blood dripping down.
So easy to go down, can you get back up again?
Or a faint, the world spiralling black, "I think I’m gonna-". A soft landing's soft, a gentle crumple. Hands rush to steady them.
Maybe they fall hard. Something cracks. A boot slams into their ribs. (Kick your whumpee while they're down) That’s gonna leave a mark.
Go down (strike one)
Get back up (they’re depending on you),
Go down (you’re not going to win this)
Get back up.
Go down.
Stay down.
