Thinking about how Aziraphale invented lying.

Because Crowley did not lie when he tempted Eve— he told her exactly what would happen, if she took a bite of the fruit of knowledge. She would know the difference between good and evil. He did not lie about that.

But Aziraphale gave away the sword appointed to him by God Herself, and then spun the very first lie to protect himself from her wrath.

Regardless of whether it was a small lie, it was a lie all the same, and a lie directly to God. He, an angel, told the very first lie, thereby inventing the act of lying.

Wouldn’t it be funny if I did the good thing and you did the bad one?

As someone who values Honesty above nearly all else- #-the question posed here about whether honesty is truly the correct course of action really gets to me #Lying is a form of kindness in here. And in a story about rumours and manipulations of truth- #its a good parallel to what we see in the main story! #we see the harm caused by trying to lie to be kind. The harm in realizing youve been lied to #there are a lot of plot points around kind lies in mdzs and it facinates me!

#fave spotting #lalla ward #doctor who #a ghost story for christmas #the ash tree #1975 #romana #romana ii #spoilers for the ash tree ig???? #i mean it's pretty obvious from the outset that Ed Petherbridge's aristo is not in for a good time #i mean he's a Jamesian protagonist for one thing.... #lalla had been acting since the beginning of the decade‚ with a fair number of one off appearances on tv and the odd film to her name #(most notably Hammer's Vampire Circus). she was still a few years off DW and genre immortality at this point #it isn't the most rewarding role; James (who i don't think many would argue that he wasn't a bit of a chauvinist) rarely featured #significant women characters in his work (a large number of them being academical in setting didn't help). actually the ash tree #is something of an outlier in that regard‚ as it does feature a significant female character in Mrs. Mothersole‚ but we can hardly consider #her a positive feminine presence... actually one of Lawrence Gordon Clark's regrets about this particular entry in the Ghost Story for #Christmas canon is the failure of him and writer David Rudkin to make a true villain of Mothersile; Clark felt that their shared sympathies #for the historical victims of witchhunting prevented them from capturing the 'evil' of the character (tho it's debatable how much James #himself intended her to be truly evil; this is just Clark's opinion after all‚ and fwiw i think Rudkin's greater complexity of the #character is more interesting‚ more believable and more appropriate) #i rambled. anyway yes‚ not a meaty role perhaps‚ but Lalla sinks her teeth in all the same and in just a few brief scenes successfully #creates a vivid and fully realised character‚ a charming and flirtatious fiancée with something of a rebellious streak #no ash tree post bc i made one the last time i watched it a couple of years ago

its honestly really disappointing to me at least that Adam is just gonna end up as a Mammon reskin. Like, I dunno I saw his design and I had some interesting thoughts about the first Man, yknow? I found it interesting that they have him demon like features, suggesting that maybe underneath his holier-than-thou appearance and attitude, he really isn't that different from the sinners he kills. But he hides that part away, acting formal and polite and as much of a good little Christian boy under the eyes of God. When God isn't looking though? He would show his true colours instantly....

But no. They just made the angel say fuck.

#I have no qualms about him being an angel it's an interesting interpretation! (No offense to religions ofc) #butttt it does suck that he really is just a second mammon #From what we've seen #And like. I think mammon is a good villain because of how cartoonishly evil he is - the lack of depth adds to his character #And the fact that greed is commonly perceived as the one truly bad irredeemable sin #But that cartoony evilness only works for mammon. #not for a literal angel-- I'm not saying I want Adam to be a good guy I just want him to have more depth #than apparently just ''i hate demons and sinners and my wife who doesn't let me beat her fuck BOOM EPIC ROCK SOLO'' #the show hasn't released yet which is why I added apparently #But I don't have high hopes... watched berserk (97) on a whim after reading someone's tags on a writing advice post on how to justify Big Fucking Swords in stories. have started reading the manga. there's a lot of triggering visuals to me so i imagine this is what it's like to be lactose intolerant and decide to eat so so so much ice cream

do you ever think about the fact that throughout the entirety of stranger things we’ve always seen mike practically shout his love for will from the rooftops by throwing his everything into believing, protecting, and helping will no matter the stakes, and how a majority of byler moments are initiated by him, and how will has always loved him back quietly despite being the one canonically confirmed to be in love, and how will is almost always on the viewer’s right in iconic byler moments but in season four we find him on the left in what used to be mike’s spot because their “roles” have switched AND when we’re taken out of the viewer’s pov and put in jonathan’s pov we see jonathan Come To A Realization here because while mike has always made it clear how special will is to him and how different their relationship is, will has always managed to keep the true depth of his feelings a little closer to his chest and it’s only when he publicly takes up that support role that mike has played for him previously that the audience is purposely made to realize, too, how romantic it truly is, because coming from mike everyone might have thought it was his usual overzealous theatrics but when the same tenderness and earnest love comes from will they realize oh. this is... this is actually something more. this is how they are this is mike and will like nothing has changed and no time has passed but it’s now that we realize just what it is, and now that will is starting to slowly but surely come out from this curtain he’s hid behind his whole life and voice that yes he loves mike of course he does he’s always loved him and loves him in precisely the way that mike expresses he needs to be loved there is simply NO conceivable way that they can come out of this hellish slow burn miscommunication trope not in full acknowledgement and eager acceptance of this love they have for each other and have always had and always will !!!!!!!!
