Noa Van Rijn || Water Tribe

[Bender] Noa is a brave and caring individual with a deep sense of community.

She is peaceful, but wouldn't hesitate to fight if it comes down to it, and is always ready stand up for herself and others.

She would make a great addition to the Water Tribe, a community that values bravery and living in harmony with not just the people, but nature as well.

Nienke Martens || Water Tribe

[Bender] Courageous, caring, loyal, determined and just are some of the words that describe not just the Water Tribe members, but Nienke as well. She is the type of person who wouldn't think twice about sacrificing herself.

Nienke is willing to help anyone, even those that have wronged her before. She hates violence, but is ready to fight if necessary.

And although a kind soul, things can turn ugly quickly if you really anger her.

Mara Sabri || Water Tribe

[Bender] Water Tribe is the best fit for Mara, as her idealistic views and her commitment to the well-being of others is a defining feature of her character.

However, she wouldn't be out of place in the Earth Kingdom either, being diligent, diplomatic and steadfast when the situation asks for it.

Mick Zeelenberg || Water Tribe

[Non-bender] Mick was the most difficult to place, as I think of him as a cross between a Water Tribesman and Air Nomad, with some Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom sprinkled in. This doesn't come as much of a surprise, as he is easily one of the most layered characters of the series.

He is very loyal, reliable, well-organized and brave, but his Fire Nation-like ambitious side can sometimes put him in hot waters because of his "tunnel vision". He is also very fun-loving and naive. And contrary to popular believe, he is pretty open-minded and is very quick to forgive and forget.

Another thing I want to add is that his favorite sports involve water, like surfing and wakeboarding. He frequently goes on vacation to specific places just for that.

Joyce Van Bodegraven || Earth Kingdom

[Non-bender] Joyce is adaptive, dependable and diligent, which makes her an excellent fit for the Earth Kingdom.

She's also optimistic and lively, qualities that are ideal for an Air Nomad. Similar to Fabian, she is someone who naturally assumes the role of a mediator and settles disputes.

She also reminds me of Suki in many ways; sporty yet girly, sociable, just, kind and easy-going. She is also quick to call out sexism, but does this without showing much anger, and is rather prone to make a joking comment that makes the other sound like an idiot for his views.

Fabian Ruitenburg || Earth Kingdom

[Non-bender] Resilient, courageous, hardworking and diplomatic, Fabian is best suited for the Earth Kingdom. But his more analytical, passionate and creative side would make him a wonderful fit for the Fire Nation as well.

Despite his reputation as a soft-spoken guy who dislikes and avoids conflicts, he is assertive and outspoken; not afraid to call others, including his friends, out on their wrongdoings. He is also quick to take on the role of a leader and/or mediator.

Appie Tayibi || Air Nomad

[Bender] Appie is optimistic, charming, imaginative, forgiving and always willing to see the good in people.

The ambassador of peace, a near-perfect fit for the Air Nomads. He can also be impulsive, which gets him in trouble quite a lot, not just with authority figures, but also with his peers.

Despite his tendency to pull pranks and get into mischief, he is still very much loved by those around him, even by hard-cases like Jeroen and Patricia. His absence is always felt, as seen in season one when he landed in the hospital, and in season three when he "disappeared", both cases had put many of the characters in a bad mood, resulting in some arguments/fights.

Amber Rosenbergh || Fire Nation

[Non-bender] Creative, resourceful, assertive and ambitious, Amber would fare very well in the Fire Nation.

She also exhibits a variety of Air Nomad characteristics, as she is very imaginative, cheerful, sweet, fun-loving and energetic.

This makes her, in my opinion, very similar to the character Ty Lee, a non-bender from the Fire Nation with strong Air Nomad traits.

Patricia Soeters || Fire Nation

[Non-bender] Without doubt the most assertive character out of the bunch. A passionate, strong-willed girl who does things her own way. She is resourceful and works hard to achieve her goals. While her rebellious ways might get her in trouble sometimes with adults, she is still an excellent fit for the Fire Nation.

Although shown to be mean and inconsiderate at times, she is the biggest sweetheart towards those she cares about. Patricia is willing to do anything to keep her loved ones safe, even if it means that she herself will be put in harm's way.

Jeroen Cornelissen || Fire Nation

[Bender] Mister Complex himself.

"The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will, and the energy and drive to achieve what they want."

This above quote by Iroh perfectly describes Jeroen. He has shown us this over and over again throughout the series. It's this very reason why I believe he is best fit for the Fire Nation. On top of that, he is very determined, resourceful, independent and analytical.

Jeroen doesn't know how to handle his emotions, and thus tends to lash out at others, even those he cares about. Very obviously irritable, doesn't even hide this, legit his one trait that stayed consistent. He is also sensitive and cares way more than he lets on, but pretends not to and resorts to acting like a jerk instead.

He can be selfish, but wouldn't hesitate to go through hell for his family and friends.

On the other hand, he is also a well-organized guy whom can be very empathetic and very fun to be around when he isn't in some bad mood.

There is just so much to unpack when it comes to this character.

To me, personally, he is very reminiscent of Zuko.

Ask time! How would your character(s) react to…

A tropical beach of the softest sand, warm waves gently lapping at the roots of verdant trees and flowers? Do they go swimming, or stick to the shade? Would they build a sand sculpture?

and/or

A dauntingly high mountain climb? Do they make it to the peak? Do they have trouble breathing with the air so thin? Are they scared of heights, or of the danger of the path? What's the view like?

These are great questions :D

BEACH

Bethany isn't the biggest fan of the beach, what with all the sand that gets everywhere an issue that doesn't bother her when it's glitter but she is a fan of her eency-wincy-teeny-weeny-icecream-patterned-string-bikini, so she'd make it work. Plus maybe there's a bar nearby?

Faith would be covered in sunscreen and hiding in the shade. She doesn't want a tan, that leads to skin cancer and no. Just no.

Blake prefers lakes to beaches as he wakeboards recreationally and the beach is too choppy. Plus these days he feels the need to wear a rashy to hide the fact he's hiding he's been branded. Which sucks because his tan has suffered. But being at the beach suggests the possibility of beach cricket, and he's always down for beach cricket.

Dominic loves to surf, so he's probably the one who suggested the beach in the first place.

Nyssa has a love/hate relationship with the beach. She loves the ocean. Loves watching it and listening to it and she finds it very soothing. But she won't go in the water, not after the time she fell off a ship. Nyssa never learned to swim because she's too dense to float, so it's best not to go in at all. Walking back along the ocean floor sucks.

MOUNTAIN

Bethany would hate it. Absolutely hate it. She'd complain the whole time. But if Blake is doing it then she's going too. And thanks to her invulnerability, she'd find it really easy.

Faith would laugh in the face of whoever suggested it. She's not going mountain climbing. You can't wear heels!

Blake would give it his best shot. He's active and does active things, and he wouldn't like to let it beat him. He's the one who would have actually trained for it too. But he's also the one most likely to fail, as he's mortal and vulnerable.

Dominic is probably the instigator again.

Nyssa would find it the easiest. She doesn't breath or get tired or need sleep, so she'd just keep going and going and going and going... At some point she's likely to end up carrying Blake.

muse a breaks into an abandoned hospital bc they like to get drunk and/or high and throw shit at the beaten down walls to let off some steam, muse b ghost hunts for fun and is basically sunshine in the form of an adrenaline junkie who’s there filming/streaming and hey ur kinda hot i’ve always wanted to do it somewhere creepy and abandoned

Nature has become my therapy

Throughout my life my parents have always encouraged a relationship with nature. This has never been explicitly talked about, but they consistently introduced me to so many new places and outdoor activities throughout my life. This started at my old cottage that my parents owned when I was born! There was beautiful clear water and high cliffs. Astonishing little islands were only a short boat ride away. In the winter we would still make our way up there for snowmobiling trips and other fun winter activities. I remember watching a huge brown bear walking gracefully outside of my bedroom window there. I watched him move in awe, and even though I was only three years old it is a sight I will never forget. My parents have taken me to various cottages with family friends and different countries where we rented different cottages and homes. During those times I learned to waterski, wakeboard, skii, snowboard, snorkel, and surf. When it has come to actually feeling connected to nature, my first experience was when I was young. I remember at our old cottage I was always so intrigued with the little forest that was out front. I would always go out there and play by myself, pretending I was in a movie. The foliage blocked any people walking down the street and my parents inside the cottage from seeing me. I would inspect big and small rocks, and a lot of them were covered in varying amounts of green fuzzy algae. The forest gave me a magical feeling, and at that age my imagination was going crazy in there! As I got a little bit older and technology became more and more integrated in my life, I went through a period where I was disconnected from nature. It became apparent that I was consistently not feeling good. I was not entirely sure why I was feeling this way. My parents were never this glued to their phones or computers at that age, so I don’t think they fully acknowledged or even understood why I was feeling this way, although they did still always encourage me to go outside. Constant use of my phone, computer and social media had me feeling tired and unwell. It triggered a lot of unhealthy habits including poor eating habits and outright laziness. It was in these times where my family trips really stood out to me. When I was engaging in various outdoor adventures on these trips, I always felt so great. I was breathing fresh air, I was listening to natural outdoor sounds, and I was eating much healthier. The importance of nature became evident. I would notice the tall trees, flowering plants. I would notice different noises. Crickets, birds chirping, owls hoo-ing. Suddenly now I’d find myself stopping, staring, and listening. I realized that being outside was actually the cure to my negative feelings. It took away my stress, sadness, and boredom. Even though I didn’t have an imagination as strong as it once was when I was younger, being in a forest or swimming over coral reefs gave me an indescribable feeling of happiness and excitement. As for who offered me a sense of place, my parents definitely gave me the guidance that I needed at my young age. They showed me how to utilize big hills to ski or snowboard on, how to swim in the ocean and observe the beautiful fish, stingrays or sea urchins in front of me without fear (although sometimes being in the ocean triggered my anxiety. Who doesn’t occasionally think of a shark attacking them?). I had lost the push I had to consistently immerse myself in nature every day for a while, but I was the one that found my way back. This time I was okay to just sit, listen, and observe what was going on around me. I did not need to be doing a fun activity outside to keep me out there, I could appreciate it for what it was (do not get me wrong though, fun outdoor activities are a very important part of my life). Between school and work, life became busy, but I made  a point to explore outside at least once a day. Now I hike, run, and observe. Nature alone never fails to make my day better. Luckily I live in the country so an abundance of trees, plants, and various wildlife are right out my doorstep. What I fear in the next few years is the industrialisation and urbanization that will be taking place right outside of my house. To me, it is a sacred place that I grew up in, exploring, imagining. I was making my own forts in the forested area of my backyard. I’d place big stones around the area I wanted to mark as my territory, using different sticks to make a fence. The entrance was surrounded with raspberry bushes with thorns. A little farther down there were trees with vine-like branches, some which I could use as swings. My brother and I loved climbing and playing on this one long and weird tree that was slanted and twisted around in a circle. Around it were also a bunch of vine-like branches which enclosed the area. Sadly that tree has now rot, but the rest of it is there. I still walk back there and reminisce about the times when I would play back there. My childhood truly reminds me of the movie “the bridge to terabithia”. Nothing is more beautiful than nature itself. Soon though the magic of it will be taken away from us and replaced with thousands of new houses and large warehouses. I also can’t help but think about where the coyotes, foxes, and deer will go. And what about the barn owls I’ve been going in the forest to see? It is something that pains me to think about, and I am not sure how it is so easy for companies to tear down beautiful habitats for their own benefit and profit.

No one was more excited when the tour bus pulled into Lisbon than Shawn. Not only did he love Portugal for the family history there - it’s where his dad grew up - but Shawn’s parents were coming to visit. He hadn’t seen them in almost a month, and he missed them more than he was ever prepared for.

It would be a hectic day, and Manny and Karen wouldn’t arrive until later, so Shawn and the boys hit the gym immediately after deboarding the bus. Shawn looked forward to working out every day, but today he had a lot of nervous energy to burn off.

Maybe that’s why you were surprised to find Shawn’s reply to your note. You had expected him to be too busy and distracted to write back until a few more cities had passed by your bus window.

Shawn’s note wasn’t as long as yours, which was not surprising considering your question (What would you name your boat if you had one?), but you couldn’t help but be excited to read it. You allowed yourself to be momentarily distracted from your usual unpacking-Shawn’s-room duties and sat on the edge of the hotel bed to read.

Who says I don’t have a boat already? Shawn wrote. Well ok, I don’t. But now I kind of want one. I think watching the sun go down over Lake Ontario from the bow (yes, I looked that up) of my own sailboat would be kind of amazing. A sport boat, like the kind you could surf behind, would be cool, too. But there’s something about a sailboat that seems really - is romantic the right word? Not like love-romance, but the kind of romantic where everything just seems perfect and beautiful and a little bit magical. Although, come to think of it, watching the sunset on a sailboat could be pretty love-romantic, too.

Your breath caught in your throat as you read. Growing up so close to Lake Travis, you were practically raised on the water. Your mom’s best friend owned a small boat rental business, and you spent every free moment of the warm seasons wakeboarding behind one of his boats, learning to expertly drive the various sports boats he offered, or laying across the deck of Dave’s own Nautique to work on your tan. You’d turned your favorite pastime into a pretty lucrative high school job, working the counter at Dave’s shop and offering boating and wakeboarding lessons on the side. 

You’d always had a pretty romantic, to use Shawn’s word, view of sailboats, though. You often fantasized about sailing out to open sea, standing at the tip of the bow of a catamaran or a schooner, one hand on the jib as you leaned out over the water. That particular image may have come from an old Audrey Hepburn photo your mom had shown you (your mom had an obsession with old Hollywood starlets). 

Either way, you felt your heart race a little at Shawn’s words - especially the implication of a romantic sunset cruise. Was he flirting?

Maybe one day we’ll meet, and we can sail off into the sunset together - at this, you stopped breathing altogether; that definitely felt like flirting to you - on The Firebolt. Mischief Managed? Maybe I’d call it The Patronus. I’ve got some time to come up with the perfect name, but it’ll definitely be Harry Potter themed. 

We won’t be sailing anywhere before you answer my next question: What exactly is your job? I don’t think I’ve ever had a “handler” before.

You could have been reading and rereading Shawn’s notes for one minute or ten - you lost track of time until you heard the jiggle of a doorknob, and you practically jumped out of your skin. Someone was opening the door to Shawn’s room. For a fleeting second, you wondered whether you should hide. But you knew that idea was ridiculous the moment it crossed your mind - imagine if Shawn opened his closet to find you tucked down beneath his clothes? You would look like a crazy stalker. No, you had every right to be in his room - it was your job to be there - and it was bound to happen anyway. Eventually. You just weren’t ready for it to be today, right now, that you’d meet him.

The door opened before you had time to move, and in walked a tall blonde woman with a large tote bag slung over her shoulder. She was beautiful, and you knew instantly who she was. When her eyes connected with yours, a surprised expression crossed her features. You could see her calculating the situation - you, a woman not much older than her world-famous rockstar son, were sitting on the bed in that rockstar’s hotel room as though waiting for him - and you hastily wanted to correct the conclusion that seemed to settle itself awkwardly across her face.

“Mrs. Mendes!” you exclaimed, jumping up from the bed and stuffing Shawn’s note in your back pocket. You crossed the room quickly, reaching out a hand toward her - to shake her hand or take her bag, you weren’t sure.

“Hello,” she replied cautiously, still confused by your presence in her son’s hotel room. She wasn’t naive by any means, but she was still a mom being confronted by a strange woman in her son’s bedroom. She reached for your hand.

“I’m (Y/N),” you said, shaking her hand. “We spoke on the phone last week.” Realization began to dawn on Mrs. Mendes’ features. “About Shawn? And his laundry?” 

“(Y/N), of course!” she beamed, understanding that you weren’t Shawn’s latest hookup but rather an employee. “You’re the one who’s been taking such good care of my son!” At this, she pulled you in for a warm hug, which you happily returned.

“I do what I can,” you said bashfully. “Let me take that for you,” you said, motioning toward the bag on her shoulder.

“Thank you,” she replied kindly. You took the bag and set it gently on the desk for her. She went to the bag and opened it, pulling from it a few objects you assumed were meant to make Shawn feel at home. “I couldn’t resist,” she said, indicating the device she had pulled from the bag. “I miss taking care of my boy,” she said in her charming Canadian/British accent. 

“I understand, Mrs. Mendes.”

“Please, (Y/N), call me Karen. We’re on the same team, after all.”

You beamed. “What is that?” you asked as Karen plugged in the device. 

“It’s a diffuser for essential oils,” she responded. “I live by my oils.” You thought you understood, now, where Shawn got his penchant for all things natural.

“I can see why,” you smiled. “I’m never doing laundry without lavender oil again.”

“You like it?” Karen asked, pleased.

“I love it! I couldn’t believe how good the laundry smelled when it came out of the dryer. I did Shawn’s and mine with lavender and I’ll never go back to regular dryer sheets.”

“So you really do Shawn’s laundry?” Karen seemed surprised. “He’s really getting the rockstar treatment now.”

You weren’t sure how to respond. Karen seemed disappointed by this information, and for some reason, the last thing you wanted to do was disappoint her. “Part of the job,” you muttered uncomfortably.

Karen sensed something was wrong. “Don’t get me wrong!” she said apologetically. “I often do Shawn’s laundry back home. I just worry about him,” she confessed. “This has been his life for so long,” she indicated the ritzy hotel room, “I worry about how we’re going to keep him grounded. You hear so much about the other child stars, I sometimes think that if they did their own laundry, they wouldn’t turn out so...” She trailed off, but you knew what she meant.

“I don’t think you have to worry about Shawn,” you replied in the most reassuring voice you could muster. “He seems really humble.”

Karen didn’t answer right away, distracted by the tiny bottles of oils she was pulling from her bag. You wondered what they were each supposed to do, and thought learning about essential oils might be the next task to keep you busy on a long bus ride. 

“Seems humble?” she finally asked. “What do you mean?” She looked up at the mirror above the desk to your reflection, and it felt, somehow, as though she were looking right through you.

“Well, I just mean,” you stammered, “that it always looks like he puts everyone else first. It doesn’t ever look like he thinks he’s the center of the universe. Which is pretty impressive, considering this tour is all about him, really.”

“Does he put you before himself?”

Your stomach did a flip. How could you explain your friendship-that-wasn’t-a-real-friendship to Shawn’s mom? 

“I think he would,” you replied uncomfortably, “if we ever talked to each other.” There. It wasn’t quite a lie - you’d never had a conversation with Shawn. Only notes written on scraps of hotel paper, passed back and forth between you via the pockets of jeans and the lining of bags. “I work sort of in the background,” you finished lamely. “I’ve never actually met Shawn.”

At this admission, Karen turned to face you. “I know,” she replied. “I just don’t know why.”

This would be harder to explain, but you found yourself trying anyway. “To be honest, I’m not sure there’s a really good reason anymore,” you started. “When we left for Amsterdam, I asked Andrew - he’s my boss - to hold off on introducing me to Shawn. I wanted to spend some time observing him to get to know him first. Shawn seemed like the type of guy who would go out of his way to take care of other people, and, well, it’s my job to take care of him. I think that would make him uncomfortable, and ultimately make my job harder.”

Karen nodded her head in understanding. “You’re right about that,” she admitted. “But what about now?”

You had to think about this one. You had observed Shawn enough by now to be able to anticipate his needs and wants pretty well. He knew you existed, and he knew you were the one who followed him around, packing and unpacking his luggage, washing his clothes, shopping for him, prepping the green rooms at stadiums across Europe. He’d hinted in today’s note that he wanted to meet you. “I guess it just seems easier this way,” you said lamely, knowing this wasn’t a real answer. 

“He talks about you, you know,” Karen said, catching you completely off-guard. Your head snapped up to meet her eyes, the eyes you’d been avoiding as you answered her question. “He tells us about the things you’ve done for him.” You could feel your cheeks heat up. “You’ll have to give me that tea recipe, he went on and on about it. Said it was a miracle.”

“I can write it down for you,” you said, happy for the change in subject.

“Just text it to me,” she said. “You have my number, right?” You nodded. “I do hope you’ll use it.”

You knew why Shawn loved his mom so much. It was true that he probably couldn’t get away with anything around her; she was too smart, too observant. But despite the fact that she could apparently see right through you, she didn’t push. She told you just enough to let you know she knew there was more to your story, but didn’t pry or make you feel bad about holding back. You knew she would listen if - when - you wanted to talk.

Shawn was on a high unlike any other when he finally crashed in his hotel room that night. The show had been as perfect as a show could get, and his parents had been there to see it for the first time. Pain is simply only temporary.

Random but somehow surprising is even though Lawson doesn’t watch too much TV (He enjoys doing stuff outside way more), the man is a sucker for The Office. And even though he’ll never admit to it, he may or may have not had a crush on Pam. Which is quite the opposite of the women he goes for. The man can legitimately quote line by line on most episodes.

 Even though he’s lived in Miami all his life, one wish he does have is to see snow. He saw it once years ago and it was a life changing moment for him.

Let’s talk about the company’s back-story.

Anarchy and Angel were started about thirteen years ago with a mission to give the world a core lifestyle sunglass program for a great price. We were always priced below our competition and have always made great sunglasses.

That’s smart.  Other than pricing, what else do you do to better market your line to target consumers?

We try to be a part of our customers’ lives. I hate to say market because it sounds so formal. We make personal connections through bands, artists, and the sports our customers participate in. Essentially, we a large extended family and we promote the brands that way.

What key elements do you try to keep in mind during the design process?

The design process is so important because there are so many different tastes and styles out there. When designing, we try to keep a great balance of basics, trendier pieces, and some things on the edgier side so we have options for every customer.

Tell me about the materials and/or technologies that go into creating your eyewear?

All of our glasses are made from the highest quality nylons and incorporate steel hinges with crystal clear lenses.

What are some of the challenges you face with these materials or when it comes to developing a new product line?

The hardest challenge is creating fresh every season. Fresh takes creativity and it does not always mean new designs. It can mean creative collaborations, signature products, and interesting creative series.

Dish out some details for me about the new line of glasses Colleen from The Material is working on.

Colleen is a great person and a long time friend. She is so talented, not only with her voice, but with her artistic sense too. We are so stoked to have her on board. Details we have to keep silent on until it's all done!

I got ya.  So, what made you choose the name “Anarchy” anyway?

Anarchy is not just an anti-establishment term. It is also a statement about doing your own thing and being yourself. The key to Anarchy is not following the masses and just being you.

What is Anarchy’s connection to music, art, and fashion?

These are the three things that make the world go around. It is where we feel the most comfortable.

Same here.  However, you also mentioned sports as a big part of Anarchy as well.  Give me examples of your affiliations with different action sports.

We are big into snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, and wakeboarding and we tend to gravitate toward things we know and love. It is only natural we have an anchor point there. We have a tight team of riders in these areas that back our brands and are known for their unique styles and personalities.

So, I understand you also have a couple graphic tees in addition to eyewear. Any other plans for further expansion beyond what you currently have available?

Absolutely. I think that is a huge untapped area for us. It is something we are working on.
