There's a ton of analysis going on right now about what Fred's letter meant and whether Tubbo (and the audience) interpreted it correctly. No matter what, it was clearly more ambiguous than originally thought, but I want to caution people against assuming only one interpretation is possible. Fred's admin is not a native English speaker. That's a really important consideration when analysing where this miscommunication started, who caused for the misinterpretation, and what the letter was trying to say. Especially if you're a native English speaker consider that your interpretation might not be what the admin intended and that blaming them for the confusion can come off as unfriendly to non-native speakers! I think the main line causing the confusion is when Fred wrote: "For now, I don't think the...you know... mmm the letter exchange will be paused." A native English speaker's interpretation of this sentence would be to disregard the sentence fragment "I don't think think the..you know..mmm" (it reads as a unfinished thought) and conclude the only important part of that sentence are the lines: "For now, [...] the letter exchange will be paused." That said, I think the admin might have intended for only the middle part of the sentence to be ignored. In which case the sentence could be read as, "For now, I don't think [...] the letter exchange will be paused." This might explain why the admin was so confused Tubbo wasn't leaving letters (and seemingly "dropped" the lore). I don't know for sure that this is what they intended, but it makes sense to me with how confused/frustrated the admin seemed.

ok i’m watching millennium again and after reading @randomfoggytiger’s analysis placing the IVF arc between the unnatural and biogenesis, that scene where frank says to mulder “they claimed i was an unfit father… that i was obsessed with conspiracy, that my work meant more to me than my daughter…” just hits different, like mulder was totally ready to give scully a baby because that’s what she wanted, but this scene placed into an immediate post-ivf context now becomes even more of a turning point for mulder, because he’s being asked to confront the question he must have asked himself a million times while they were trying to conceive (do i deserve this? do i have the right to bring a child into the world? can i be a good father? is that something i can balance with my life’s work?), but now it’s been stripped of consequences because he can no longer have children (if scully can’t he can’t either because he only wants them with her), and yet he still feels compelled to change the outcome, to end up in a better/different place than frank has, hence why he chooses to kiss scully at the end of the episode and kick off the season of secret sex

It’s kinda funny. I enjoy Coby and Helmeppo as just #Besties as much as I like them as a ship. But as much as I’ve recently seen people call them brothers I can’t see them as brothers. In love? Sure. Queer platonic partners? Hell yeah. Besties that you’ve got to keep an eye on cause they are unstoppable together? Absolutely. Brothers? I don’t see it. To me they are not brothers they are In Cahoots.
That being said I think Tashigi and Helmeppo would absolutely be siblings they would roast the hell out of each others’ taste in people and also argue about swords. And also have each other’s back and share gossip.
Oh actually one more thing. I know I did Cobymeppo fic recs but people should let me know if they want me to rec some fics that are just Coby n Meppo as besties.

Jon: "Honestly, I panicked. Daisy's name came up first on my phone."
if that's because he went through his contacts in alphabetical order, that means he has Daisy in his phone as Alice. which i think is a v Jon thing to do
(Or his contacts came up based on the most recent, which would also make sense, but it could still be both!)
Basira: "None of us are who we were, Jon."
Jon: "No. I suppose not. In many ways it’s simpler now isn’t it? At least now our demons have names."
I wonder what demons of his own Jon's thinking about, that he didn't have a name for before the Institute
-
This statement on its own isn't the most flashy, but I really like how it puts the rest of this half of the season into stark contrast. Even though most people will be a lot more willing to forgive Jon for what he does than this statement giver, it still raises the question of, why exactly?
Is it just that she causes her victims to die, and he doesn't? How far does that go? How much suffering are you morally 'allowed' to cause other people if it saves your own life, if it saves other people?
How much does the 'good' these Avatars do in the world matter, compared to the pain they cause? Are they even doing good? The statement giver comes off as a conceited person too caught up in her own rationalisations to judge her actions clearly... though, might that not go for Jon as well? Now that he knows that you can quit the Institute, he can't even say that he has no choice but to take statements or he'll waste away - he has at least a chance to get out, too. A horrible one, but it IS an option. One that he explicitly decides not to try, at least not without Martin.
-
@a-mag-a-day last thought: Actually gouging an eye out with an awl isn't the hardest thing... Going through with gouging out the second one, is.

also, i got to the part in jane eyre with the wedding and i am more gobsmacked than ever. NOT ONLY did this book suddenly increase a level in racism but rochester confessed to 1. making jane think he was gonna marry that other lady so she'd be jealous 2. secret attic wife and jane is like. reader i forgave him immediately. GIRL HIS WIFE WAS IN YOUR ROOM TEARING YOUR SHIT UP. wake up!!! get out of there!!!!! i mean she literally did decide to leave and good for her i was HOLLERING but oh my god every single thing he did in the month up to the wedding was a red flag.
i also just realized that had she not been lovesick fooling around with him in that time she might have gotten to meet her uncle before he kicked it??? like. i don't think a single good thing has happened to jane in this entire book that wasn't made worse later:
orphaned, child abuse
got sent away to school, but school sucked bad because of bullies and starvation and sickness etc
made a friend, but her friend died
got a job that wasn't at school, but there's a crazy lady in the house and there's also rochester, who might be worse
mrs reed finally died, but she kept the secret of the uncle from jane
proposed to by a rich guy, but he's already married
was able to contact her uncle, sort of, but he's gonna be dead before she can ever meet him
LIKE CAN WE HAVE ONE GOOD THING. can one single good thing happen to jane. if her happy ending is marrying that wackjob im gonna throw my phone against the wall

Some people: Kaeya’s bio father is an abusive monster who abandoned his son in order to achieve his own selfish goals. He is an evil man who deserves everything awful that might happen to him.
Other people: Kaeya’s bio father did the right thing and leaving Kaeya in Mondstadt was the only way to give him a halfway-decent life. He is a better father than he is given credit for and should not be as hated as he is.
Me: Kaeya’s bio father is integral to the general ‘war is hell and bad choices can reverberate across time’ thing that Genshin seems to be going for. He made unethical choices, but mostly because the ONLY OPTIONS HE HAD WERE UNETHICAL. If our understanding of the Alberich’s role in Khaenri’ah is accurate, General Alberich (my name for him until stated otherwise) was suddenly in charge of a hopeless and dead kingdom which begged to be saved. Assuming that there was a reason Kaeya specifically was chosen for this mission, General Alberich was forced into a position where he needed to choose between the lives/future of every Khaenri’an vs the life and future of his young son. Abandoning either is an awful thing to do and a horrible decision, but the bad decisions of Celestia and Rhinedottir have led to a scenario where General Alberich can only make bad decisions. In the end, he chose to prioritize his people and made his young son into a spy. We do not know the process for this, but knowing how much Hoyoverse loves to torment people (especially Khaenri’ans) we can assume that this process was horrific for Kaeya and could definitely be considered abuse. General Alberich is effectively making his son into a child soldier for a war that the majority of people never wanted or asked for, and one Kaeya was likely far too young to understand. At least, until he was forced to grow up far too quickly in order to fulfill his duty. General Alberich likely loathed everything about what was happening and even in his last moments with his son he asks for forgiveness. He knows that what he is doing is wrong, but to turn back now is to both abandon his subjects and make everything that happened to Kaeya in order to turn him into a child spy be for nothing. So yeah, General Alberich is a terrible person who made horrible choices. But war and the bad actions of others have created a situation where he has nothing BUT horrible choices and where being a terrible person is the only thing he can be. And that’s without considering how the curse/abyssal corruption could impact the scenario.
#idk#I just think that Kaeya's father is kinda an Asgore situation#where the only decisions he could possibly make were awful and unethical ones but choosing neither would create an even worse outcome#also I want to clarify that both of the other interpretations that I parroted before giving my own thoughts are valid#because we are working with such limited information and yeah no shit people are gonna have differing thoughts#people have differing beliefs and perspectives on things which are CANONICALLY CONFIRMED to be clear situations with lots of info about it#so of course people are going to go in like 80 different directions with his character#BECAUSE WE HAVE NEXT TO NOTHING TO GO OFF OF#and basically every interpretation of him I've seen is pretty reasonable#Like yeah man's son is a child spy who was abandoned in a far away country for the purpose of being a spy for Khaenri'ah's interests#thinking that he was an abusive asshole isn't exactly unreasonable#nor is it unreasonable to believe that he was actually a decent man who left his son in Mondstadt as the 'only hope' of Khaenri'ah#because he just wanted Kaeya to live on and have a life outside of the Abyss#and Kaeya was mistaken when he thought he was simply being left behind as a pawn#Genshin is no stranger to unreliable narrators and this wouldn't be the first time a character story wildly mischaracterizes something#so like...both of those interpretations are valid#and pretty fair ones as well#But I think that it really is like an Asgore situation where yeah this guy sucks and he is an awful person who made so many bad choices#But also was left with nothing BUT bad choices through war and grief and other factors that were genuinely outside of his control#Sacrifice your son's childhood and happiness by forcing him to be a child spy and abandoning him in the middle of a deadly storm#or let your people (including yourself) rot away into nothingness while facing a fate worse than death while they all but scream to be saved#there are no good options#kaeya's father#don't take this too seriously I just really liked Undertale when I was younger and I'm getting Asgore vibes from General Alberich

IMO the thing about Hoder is that her thoughts, feelings, motivations, and actions are left somewhat ambigious by the game, both due to how little screentime she gets and the open-ended nature of Kingdom Hearts' storytelling. Because of this, there are multiple ways that you could interpret her character, and I would argue that, for the most part, these various interpretations are all equally valid within the framework of what the game gives us (because after all, it's not like the game gives us a lot to work with in the first place.)
Is her professed belief in the inherent light of people's hearts a genuine representation of her thoughts, or something she said to ease the concerns of her bickering classmates, knowing full well that her declaration was overly-optimistic? When she snuck off to confront Maleficent by herself, did she have battle on the mind, or was she just planning to negotiate with her? Who instigated the fight, a righteous Hoder or an enraged Maleficent? When she tried to inform her friends that Baldr needed help as she died, was she aware that he had been possessed by darkness, or was it unclear to her what exactly was wrong with him? When she asked Xehanort to house her heart in his and transport her to Baldr, was it truly because she was worried about her brother, or because she felt it was her responsibility as his sister to put an end to his chaos? When she offered Baldr an olive branch upon reuniting with him at the end of the game, was she hoping that her kind words would convince him to stand down, or was it all just a ruse to get close enough to kill him? Who decided to turn on the other first? Or did they turn on each other simultaneously, both equally driven by distrust and paranoia? Heck, what was her sibling relationship to Baldr even like? Because the game certainly doesn't show it to us in any greater detail. And considering all the parallels the game draws between her and Eraqus, just how much of her personality and ideals can we glean from Eraqus'?
Personally, I love flawed and messy characters, especially if they're women. Extra especially if they're technically on the side of good. So while I do try to strike a balance with how I interpret her, I can't deny that I have a fondness for some of the darker possibilities, pun not intended.

shumika is canon to Me even if they never directly say they are Gay Dating In A Romantic Relationship... i dont think they have to say it or even Be dating for it to be canon. the new story has shown that the story of valkyrie, especially from now on, is a romance... at least that's how i interpreted it. and that is whats canon to me: that their story is one of romance. that makes their relationship inherently romantic to Me even if they aren't confirmed to be Dating..... that is my opinion and how I see it.......Personally...

Paul loves enjambments
Enjambment is the continuation of a sentence or clause across a line break. For example, the poet John Donne uses enjambment in his poem "The Good-Morrow" when he continues the opening sentence across the line break between the first and second lines: "I wonder, by my troth, what thou and I / Did, till we loved? Were we not weaned till then?"
These are the examples that I could think of right now of Paul hopping across lines (well, if you agree with where the cuts are placed, as lines in a song can be written in several ways, and if you agree that the breaks in syntax are unusual enough to be considered poetic/interesting enjambments) :
...
I've just seen a face I can't forget The time or place where we just met
...
I was alone, I took a ride I didn't know what I would find there Another road where maybe I Could see another kind of mind there
... Ooh, you were meant to be near me Ooh, and I want you to hear me Say we'll be together every day
...
And it really doesn't matter if I'm wrong, I'm right Where I belong, I'm right Where I belong
...
There beneath the blue suburban skies I sit and meanwhile back In Penny Lane there is a fireman with an hourglass
...
And when the broken hearted People living in the world agree There will be an answer Let it be
...
Mull of Kintyre Oh, mist rolling in from The sea, my desire Is always to be here Oh, Mull of Kintyre
Feel free to add more if you can recall any!

I asked for an animal plushie for Christmas based off of a familiar in a fanfiction I adore. I did not get it. However! I got an Appa plush and he's sooo soft. Also. I got a blue/peach moonstone kwagatama and some rope and bits to turn it into a necklace and I asked for just the stone like 6 months ago for my birthday for my félix cosplay but! With the blue colour and black leather like rope it would also double as the magical focus that blorbo from the fanfiction wears at all times. By complete coincidence. Love when u obtain an item that can fit with multiple characters, never taking this off.
Hope everyone else is having a happy holidays too!

something something about how the rings not just symbolised Yuuri and Victor's bond and was not just an omamori for them something something Victor was the first person Yuuri wanted to hold on to and share his dreams with and depend on after fighting for so long ALONE something something the rings symbolising this exact same thing something something about how Yuuri's arc still is wonderful even when he didn't win the gold because he finally learnt to actually depend on people, share his dreams and aims with them and not fight alone which is something he struggles with for the whole show
#yuri on ice ///#I am not sure about how to intrepret the whole of yuuri's arc but that's purely because I've watched the show only once#It always felt a bit off to me when the whole winning gold was a bit rushed in the last episode#And of course you could blame that on the pacing and you could say that there was flaws in the writing/the writers got confused#I've seen multiple posts about it and while I personally disagree I do think it is a valid interpretation#But I want to work with what DID happen in canon so I can be at peace with the episode lol#I choose to intrepret his arc as being one where he learns to not beat himself up over his failures (In lack of a better way to phrase it)#His anxiety plays a huge factor in it too though#One could argue that maybe winning gold would've given him that final push in believing that he is in fact extraordinary and not just#A dime a dozen skater (and I think that would have been wonderful too!)#And yeah they could have made him win gold AND have him not retire! But I don't think what we got in canon is inherently bad writing#(I mean excluding the scoring which from what I hear was inaccurate? But it doesn't bother me because Idk anything about scoring lmao)#Or maybe it's because this is a lesson I personally am struggling to learn and accept - that regardless of whether you win or not you#can and should strive to be better and better without losing hope#also a bit related to this but to me the emotional climax in the finale was actually Yuuri's free skate and him breaking the record#It was what further cemented my#thoughts about Yuuri's arc being about him and his need to be satisfied with his skating regardless of winning or losing#also fyi the takes I talked about aren't inherently ones I came across lol I just was thinking of various counter points#The whole reason I am writing this si because I want to understand this whole thing myself gdishsjshdh so writing it down seems like a good#thing#n rambles#Also hopefully this post doesn't show up in tags djsbdjbdjd

hi hunxi, just wondering if you have thoughts on the weibo blowup over the tgcf audio drama? from what i've read, people are upset about the following:
there's negativity surrounding both lead voice actors, but the majority consensus seems to be that 双儿's voice isn't suitable for xie lian. there's also a screenshot circulating of a comment in an anonymous discussion forum posted in march 2022, which accuses the production company of 内选 and of using the ip as a “捧人的垫脚石”. aside from the very loaded language, the predictions in the comment seem mostly to have come true (which has led some people to speculate that it was actually released by someone within the company itself, either as a "whistleblower" situation or to test out reactions beforehand).
fans of the book dislike the way that mentions of mxtx + new tgcf content were apparently dragged into the behind-the-scenes video to ... quell public outrage? i personally don't see a problem, but weibo posters put a lot of emphasis on the fact that 新修 chapters were underway BEFORE the audio drama and therefore not "exclusive" audio content or written for the express purpose of the audio drama's production.
there's a whole lot more that won't include here (hot search/rankings allegedly being bought, voice actor fans shading book fans, etc), but i really hope this isn't an insensitive or overly negative ask. i'm just surprised that chinese vs international fandoms are having such wildly different reactions.
hi anon! honestly, looks like you've summed it up pretty well — I came to the TGCF audiodrama to have a good time and was surprised by how much negativity there was in CN fan circles about it?
(post got long, throwing it under a cut)
I assume there's probably some history/drama surrounding these supposedly contentious aspects of the TGCF AD production, so I suppose qualifiers are in order: I've got legitimately no idea where the anti-729 sentiment is coming from (?? they do good work???), or about the history of nepotism/favoritism in voice actor circles (?????). truly, everything I know begins and ends with 《我是特优声》 and my misadventures on 猫耳, so I'm doubtlessly missing out on any drama from like, before 2021
that being said, I can't say I understand the anti-casting sentiment because, well... 苏尚勤 is a legitimately experienced and lauded voice actor who's familiar with MXTX's work, and while 陈张太康 is a somewhat newer face, anyone who's watched 《我是特优声》 or listened to his audiodramas knows that he's got an extremely impressive range that I personally think is very suited to the dynamic aspects of Hua Cheng's character. from the very little I've spotted on weibo/the 猫耳 评论区, it seems like people are taking issue with... how young 苏尚勤 sounds? which is like. fam. you know what voice actors do for a living, right? change their voices to embody different characters? you truly cannot judge how well a voice actor performs in an AD based on a five minute trailer alone. give it a few episodes/a season since they're apparently giving out the entire season for free for two months, and then we'll talk
I think a lot of the “声音不贴角色” complaints come from, well, fans of the book expecting these few lines we've heard so far to truly embody the breathtaking complexity of these characters all at once, which is rather impossible. the thing about Xie Lian and Hua Cheng is that they are young, and old, and tired, and passionate, and faithful, and trusting, and cruel, kind, but all at different times. so Xie Lian sounds young now? give the voice actor a chance to show how exhausted and jaded and tired he becomes later, in the flashback arcs. so Hua Cheng doesn't sound like the badass ghost king we know him for? that actually 100% makes sense, he's in San Lang mode right now, and if you watched 陈张太康's rendition of 《灵笼》, you KNOW he can do arrogant, vicious royalty when it comes to it
also, looking across the cast list for the AD, this doesn't seem to be 内选 unless it's like... 内选 within the 京圈 voice acting circle?? which to be fair is like. maybe 200 people total asldkfjadlsf (look if you want to diversify your voice acting cast then let's see some 沪圈 rep huh?? #give毛毛老师anotherbitroleagain). the voice actors in the TGCF AD cast come from a vast assortment of different voice acting studios, from 729 to 边工 to 翼之声 to 光合积木 to unaffiliated with professional studios at all, so I'm??? confused??? at allegations of unfairness in casting??
I also saw some of those 弹幕 complaining about how they kept bringing up the MDZS production in the 制作谈 and I'm spectacularly baffled as to why that's a problem considering that much of the production staff had worked on the MDZS AD and it's. by. the same. author. and anyway, much of their discussion of the MDZS AD in the TGCF 制作谈 was specifically about shortcomings in the MDZS AD that they were learning from and seeking to improve this time around, which feels relevant and not particularly 刷好感 to me
tl;dr I think the TGCF AD production team worked very hard on this and are genuinely trying their best, and that all judgment should be reserved until after the season airs. there really is no point in trying to offer a holistic critique based on five-minute trailer alone, and like, I don't know how many morality points one would get from boycotting an AD but tbh it seems kind of. negligible. so let's all just kick back and enjoy this absolutely stacked production while it's being generously offered for free, shall we?
