🐻🐤🐰🦊 just some thoughts on the fnaf movie

🐻the attention to detail that was put into it, with all it’s little details and easter eggs. the posters in the background, (and i haven’t seen anyone bring this up), the guy who got face-mauled by the cupcake wearing a midnight motorist t-shirt. the spring lock scene. the fact that scariest of all the jumpscares (of which there weren’t a lot but it’s kind of for the younger demographic ig they can’t make it too bad) was freaking balloon boy. the highest kill count going to MVP Carl the Cupcake. this is what i mean when i say movies from established franchises should be made by fans, for fans.

AND THE MATPAT CAMEO. HIS ACTING ISNT EVEN BAD AND EVEN IF IT WAS I EOULD STILL LOEV ITTT DVDNFB

🐤 you can tell they put a lot of thought into the child actors. abby is phenomenal. the five missing children? properly creepy and sad looking.

🐰 characters were all really well written and entertaining. the karen aunt, for all that she is an antagonist and very much hateable, still manages to be funny. even background characters are hilarious, like Doug for example, and don’t even get me started on the friggin matpat cameo i nearly screamed in the movie theater.

🦊 vanessa and mike are naturally each other’s narrative foils (and stand-ins for respectively Michael Afton/Elizabeth Afton (MichaElizabeth if you will) and Charlotte Emily imo), and them saying the same line, the “that’s two jobs”, mike at the beginning, and vanessa at the end, TO THE SAME CHARACTER?? TO THE BIG FUCKIN BAD HIMSELF??? WHO THEY BOTH HAVE DEEP HISTORY WITH???? literally this is good writing. i’m not saying the movie is perfect because it isn’t, but this is good writing.

🐻 and vanessa, as much as she kind of is, doesn’t feel like a coward because her worst fear does come true. her own father, the person who she thought the world of, tries to kill her as soon as she steps out of line. her fear wasn’t unjustified. she spent her entire life under his control — has literally never known anything else, and to still rebel after so long must’ve been the hardest, most terrifying thing in the world but she still did it because she’d grown to care for mike and abby.

and this is what i mean when i quote that one post: “strong female characters ≠ characters who are female and punch good, but strong female characters = well-written female characters” like yeah, vanessa’s an antagonist, or an anti-hero i suppose, but she’s still, once again, likeable and mysterious and funny. and the “bring her here again and i’ll fucking shoot you”?? that was probably her first act of true rebellion, aside from telling mike more than she should’ve about the pizzeria.

🐤 mikes arc is a very obvious “let go of the past and learn to cherish the present” which isn’t exactly revolutionary, but i think it’s done quite well though it could be improved a bit. and as much as you think he is an absolute cabbage head for telling them they could have abby for even a second, but you still, once again, get it.

our man’s running on like two hours of sleep and also meds, finally getting to see his baby brother up-close and even touch his face for the first time in probably more than a decade of blaming himself, and then getting told he could go back and see his parents again, the grief over who he probably hasn’t been able to process since he had to take care of abby when they died (possibly even took his own life in the father’s case if he’s supposed to be a henry stand-in like i think and doesn’t that just make it fifty times worse)

and it’s set up that he wants that perfect family back, the kind that he had during his childhood, that abby never got to experience.

and maybe he feels guilty for that. maybe he thinks, in his sleep-deprived and grief-ridden mind, for only a moment, that she would be better off, since she seems to like the animatronics and their ghost children better than him and he still feels like he doesn’t know how to raise a kid.

🐰 speaking of abby, for once Child Character in the horror movie isn’t just there to do some stupid shit for Plot Reasons (cough, The Curse of La Llorona, cough cough). i mean yes, she does go with them at the climax, but she has been given no reason not to trust them and considering the fact that they are other children, it would honestly be more suspicious if she didn’t trust them (also we’ve been shown she doesn’t really have friends before the end, so they’re also her first and only friends, no wonder she’s clinging to them) plus she’s been left alone with the aunt she does not like, possibly still believing mike is abandoning her. you get it.

she’s also very entertaining in her sassiness. like “are you here to arrest my brother?” or “yeah, love you too bro, kinda don’t wanna die tho, can we leave?” literally i can’t stand kids in general, but especially so in in horror movies, but i would give my life for abby.

🦊and the drawing thing? it’s beautiful and sad and really hammers home the fact that these monsters, however scary they have been made by their brutal and cruel deaths, they were, and are, just children who didn’t deserve to die and communicate the same way children like abby do. it also makes abby herself relevant to the plot and actually useful.

🐻and about abby; i have my own Theory there. we know she wasn’t in the picture during Garrett’s disappearance, which means she’s at least twelve years younger than mike. it’s actually quite common for couples who are going through a rough patch to have kids to try to fix it, which i think is what happened here, made even more possible if they also had her as a sort of replacement for Garrett. this, as i said earlier, makes mike’s indecision all the more understandable — if abby doesn’t just look a lot like Garrett, but was actually supposed to be him and would’ve never existed if not for the tragedy.

What would you say are your more controversial opinions about the hp characters?

ohhhh okayyy. i feel like my opinions on a lot of the characters aren’t controversial because i dont feel super strongly towards anyone in any negative light but here are some i could think of at the top of my head:

i’m glad the malfoys faced more extreme backlash after the second wizarding war. a lot of people in the fandom seem to be very sympathetic towards draco and scorpius for getting dogpiled with the brunt of it (which yeah, it sucks, especially for scorpius) but the prejudice makes complete make sense to me. if i was someone who didn’t know scorpius’ character, and had someone from my family get killed in the second war due to death eaters or something— seeing the malfoys still be wealthy and walk around freely without any jailtime, i would be bitter too. they’re hated on but they’re still one of the richest families ever, so they’ll live LOL

another anon has asked about this and i haven’t responded to them yet but when i do i will link it here for my reasons. basically: the best character in the cursed child is harry potter. i think the way they wrote his character and ptsd carried the play. it was def his story, not albus’.

i do think dumbledore has some aspects of him that may be considered morally gray, but mostly i dont think he is. he does everything for the good of the world, and his complete selflessness leads him to sacrifice anything for it— even himself and the people he loves, when necessary. i completely understand why people wouldn’t agree with his methods though.

pansy parkinson is racist and out of all the female side characters, developing HER is so questionable from fandom

harry had questionable descriptions about a lot of male characters to make people think he could be a little 🏳️‍🌈 there was bill, there was sirius, there was cedric. but draco is not a part of that list. harry was not feeling draco whatsoever throughout the series but drarry shippers cling to that one ‘obsessed’ line

furthermore, harry rejecting draco’s offer of friendship wasn’t a sad or a ‘what if’ scene. draco was being a classist piece of shit and harry didnt want to fuck with that, there isnt any way in any timeline he wouldve accepted draco’s friendship.

but he STILL has that lighting. because he isn’t being actually honest with will here. he’s downplaying the severity of his feelings A Lot. he’s hiding behind the guise of friendship in both scenes when his feelings run much, much deeper than what he’s showing.

but why would mike be downplaying his feelings in the shed scene if he’s unaware?? he WOULDNT. because he is AWARE. and it guides all his behavior from the snowball to literally his Whole Fucking Arc in s3 which is about Actively pushing will away and trying to fix himself and his feelings by growing up and “learning” to like girls. that arc didnt come out of nowhere. there was a trigger to those incredibly Conscious actions. mike wasnt blind to what he was doing when he made fun of will and projected his own inability to like girls onto him. he has a consciousness that does in fact guide his behavior when doing things Blatantly out of true character for him

Would LOVE that essay on combat in dnd because full agree. But not even just for people watching live play, like, combat is an essential feature of dnd as a game system and it endlessly frustrates me when i see dms be like “yeah combat is just too complicated and no fun so i dont do it in my game :)!” Like i guess thats your right, but any non-caster class is gonna be miserable in your game. I saw a video recently talking about how dnd has kind of become the default ttrpg and is marketed as the perfect system for everyone and any style of play which is just. So not true. Combat in dnd is equally as integral as roleplay is and theres really no argument otherwise. Very valid if you hate dnd combat, it sure isnt for everyone, but in that case maybe play a different ttrpg where the characters arent constructed around combat abilities, i promise you’ll have more fun.

So this is one of those things that touches on maybe 99% of my feelings on Experiencing Fiction in general and actual play in particular; I apologize in advance for the length and digressions within this response.

Here are the reasons I have seen or I surmise why people don’t like D&D combat, either in actual play or in home games:

It can get crunchy and involves a lot of rules

There are long stretches in which individuals do not necessarily act (not exclusive to combat but I think this is a factor)

It contains violence

There is a potential for character death

Now, it’s fine if you aren’t interested in D&D-style combat, for whatever reason, when you play ttrpgs. It’s just that this is a core feature of D&D. As you say, this is what the martial classes are structured around - and, frankly, no small number of casting classes/subclasses as well. By avoiding it when you play D&D, you’re avoiding the bulk of the game, and there are plenty of ttrpgs that permit open RP that aren’t combat focused that would probably fit your needs better (eg: PbtA and Savage Worlds are both generic systems that can support a heroic fantasy like D&D without the emphasis on combat skills). I happen to love and prefer D&D, but that is specifically because I love combat, and yeah, there are other games and people should seek out those games if they don’t like combat.

When it comes to D&D actual play though…skipping combat is just straight-up stupid. And to be clear I mean fully skipping it and not watching it at all; while this is piggybacking off my post about spoilers, it’s fine if you are the sort of person who needs to know how combat ends in order to enjoy it! That’s just a personal preference that I respect even if I don’t share it.

D&D combat isn’t just an inherent part of the game; it’s an inherent part of the story. The idea of D&D being split into combat and RP is a false dichotomy. There is RP and crucial story within combat scenes, and you simply do not achieve the same effects by reading an after-the-fact summary. To use examples from Critical Role, consider one of the most famous RP moments from Campaign 1, when Scanlan uses his 9th level counterspell in the Vecna fight. The weight of that moment derives from mechanics and from the fact that it is in the midst of combat and well into a climatic final battle. Or for lighter examples, there’s a ton of Beau/Yasha and Fjord/Jester mid-combat flirting running through much of Campaign 2 that informs those relationships. Molly’s death? Caleb going into a fugue state when he kills humanoids with fire? Yasha destroying Obann? Fjord dying mid-deep scion fight? Those are all moments that have deep character weight and meaning that are within the context of combat, and you cannot divorce them from that context and hope to retain the same effect.

This is what dovetails into a larger discussion of Experiencing Fiction which is a (in my opinion) worrying tendency among some people to truly believe that you can cut up media into the palatable bits and pieces and push all of what you see as icky vegetables to the side of your plate. I fucking hate this. I think it’s what drives a lot of things including a distaste for combat. This is how you get, for example, people who dislike combat because Violence And Death Bad, which, do I think that in the real world violence is most often a thing to be avoided? Do I think that in the real world death is heartbreaking? Yes, but this is fiction. There’s that great Brennan Lee Mulligan quote about how TTRPGs like D&D allow people who usually must be conflict-avoidant in real life to let out their anger and frustration in a place where it is safe and harmless, and I believe that whole-heartedly. I want stories about death because I want to know I'm not alone in how I feel about death. I want stories in which people can express their rage in ways both healthy and unhealthy, because big same. (I also think it’s absolutely not coincidental that people who believe they are ‘protecting’ people by circumscribing what is acceptable in fiction tend to be strongly associated with either bigoted, violent policies in real life, or harassment and doxxing online; maybe enjoy a fucked up movie, as John Waters once said, and you'll calm down.)

This idea that you can cut up media and only consume what you like is also what I think is behind some of the really ill-considered and overly granular timestamped content warnings I’ve mentioned previously. It is fine if there are things you don’t want to watch or which will be upsetting or even triggering to watch! It’s fine if you as an individual don’t like violence! But I think there’s a problem when people believe they are entitled to be able to watch whatever they want and have it mold to their exact wants and needs (and that it’s a failing if it doesn’t), rather than taking on the responsibility of seeking out media that already fits the bill. Actual Play D&D will nearly always have violent encounters. If this will be an issue this is not for you. It is not gatekeeping to say “you can come through this gate, but the gate is in fact here for your specifically requested protection"; and yet people think that instead, gates should be placed around everything else. So (to give an example) this is why the warnings for D20’s Neverafter strike me as a symptom of this larger problem - if you have discomfort with violence towards animals and children, that’s fine, but you are watching a D&D horror series in which over half the player characters are either animals or children. This is not something where you can skip a few seconds of a flashing gif that might be a migraine or seizure trigger, or a case where an exceptionally rough scene of gaslighting can be read instead of watched; this is inherent to the show, and if this is not for you, you need to go elsewhere.

To give one last example, I was looking for fanart for Worlds Beyond Number, and came across a picture of Suvi with a caption of “Suvi but without the imperialism” and like…Aabria has said in interviews that this engagement with the empire is extremely deliberate; that Suvi is intended to be tied into the political structures of this world as an intentional contrast with Eursulon’s status as an outsider and Ame’s role at the smaller, community level. Suvi without imperialism is not identifiable as the same character and it throws the entire story off-kilter; she is of this empire and that is the fucking point. Any story worth telling is not just items thrown haphazardly into a bowl; they are combined and mixed. Someone is giving you a plate of brownies and you are acting like it’s physically possible to take out the cocoa powder without fucking the end result, and buddy, it’s not.

(Truly, I was not joking when I said this is like, the load-bearing pillar of most of my complaints about fiction consumption patterns in general. This is about how people will deny the flaws in characters even though any reasonably intelligent ten-year-old, and I know because I fucking was one once, understands that person vs. themself is one of the core conflicts and overcoming one’s flaws is in many cases the entire story and if you start out perfect there is nothing to be said. Like…I think a lot of people genuinely just want to watch a nonstop Monterey Bay Otter Cam of their sufficiently sanitized, focus-group-tested blorbos baking cookies together, and are affronted when people with the tiniest sliver of empathy and/or curiosity want a story with plot and character growth, which in turn require conflict.)

Anyway. I think the takeaways here are that there’s this awful entitlement people have in which they think that they can simply consume anything and it is the failure of that media if it doesn’t cater specifically to them, rather than a failure of them to seek out that which they would enjoy (and I could go on this rant indefinitely; it is truly the most constant theme among Takes I Think Are Dumb); and also I really want to bake something right now, given my choices of metaphor. Combat is part of D&D as a game and as a storytelling medium, and it is incumbent upon people who do not like combat to find something that doesn’t have D&D combat, rather than try to pull out the vital organs of the story.

thoughts on sonic’s rivals and sega’s usage of them

knuckles: has been relegated to a very friendly rival. sonic and him are not fighting near as much as they used to. i think sega could benefit from making knuckles a bit more antagonizing, at least in regards to when angel island is in danger, but otherwise after all these adventures together it doesn’t REALLY make sense for knuckles to actively be an antagonistic force. so i don’t think knuckles should be classified as a rival anymore really. that said knuckles is also a character that should be used in specific circumstances- as in he should really only be in games when the master emerald is relavent (ie, missing). so knuckles should be limited based on that alone, but his friendship with sonic has also impacted his “rivalry”. all that to say knuckles isnt really a rival anymore and he shouldn’t be used often as an antagonistic force given that he’s already been tricked 100 times and has spent the past 30 years with sonic.

metal sonic: honestly when sega wants “antagonistic force for no real good reason” metal sonic should be the first thing to pop up. he’s a great rival for both racing and actual boss fights. sega just needs to use him more he’s a great foil to sonic, he has no limitations on his personality or circumstance, so he should be an active, repeated rival in the sonic games but for some reason he keeps getting ignored

shadow: complicated feelings on him. shadow can’t act like his sa2 self which is what sega tends to want from him. shadow should be more of an ally to sonic than an outright antagonistic force given that shadow also wants to save humanity. the only source of conflict that works is when sonic and shadow have different opinions on what “saving” means. sonic battle is a great example of this. so shadow can be a rival but it has to be done well and meaningfully. additionally shadow’s a pretty powerhouse character so im inclined to think he shouldn’t be involved in games unless eggman is trying to like, blow up the planet again.

blaze: blaze went through a character arc and isn’t really a rival to sonic anymore. she’s a bit like knuckles in that they’re too friendly to actually be antagonistic to each other, unless there was some sort of misunderstanding; but again, blaze has worked with him enough to know that sonic’s a good guy here to help. so blaze is a great friend but she’s not really a “rival” anymore. that said she’s also severely limited in appearances since she lived in another dimension; as such she should only appear when a game threatens her dimension/emeralds.

jet: jets a pretty solid character that should still be reoccurring. like he’s a fantastic option for a racing rival, if sega makes more racing games. why the fuck he isn’t in any racing games after sonic riders series is beyond me. but i think jet works best as a racing rival so i can’t see him being used as a boss fight or anything. anyway sega should use him more but specifically for racing games

silver: kind of not a rival any more either? he would probably only fight sonic again based on a misunderstanding but again, he’s fought with sonic long enough by now that he knows sonic isn’t going to actively try to destroy the world. his motivation is probably similar to shadow; sonic and him will agree to save the world, but might disagree on how, and that can cause conflict. that said silver’s more of an ally now than a true antagonistic force. plus he’s from the future so his appearances should be limited to only immensely severe threats.

bonus- mighty (& ray): honestly they’re not really rivals. they work a lot better as friends. plus mighty is limited to the classic games at this point and if they did bring him to modern games, he should be a friend. he honestly doesn’t have any major conflicts with sonic.

bonus- fang the sniper: again, only in classic games. honestly i don’t think he’s interesting enough to be a reoccurring rival in the main games. he’d be fine for side missions or one off boss fights but he wouldn’t be interesting for being a full on antagonistic rival

i have honestly no idea how to ask this, but i'll try to put it into words. i feel like i agree with a lot of things related to being punk but at the same time im not sure if i even really comperhand what being punk means. i have no idea where to start the research.

i've seen people saying that punk is just rebelling, i saw others talking about how its related to many things from past and about standing up to the goverment, other ppl say that the fashion is important...

i feel like this is something i could connect to but i just have no idea how to discover which things are true and which are not.

This makes complete sense. Being ‘punk’ isn’t something that just has one definition. My proof:

And there are a lot of people who gatekeep the subculture, and a lot of people who claim to be a part of it, but don’t actually know the first thing about it.

So I’ll start with this: contrary to what you may think you don’t have to look ‘punk’ to be punk. Some of the most punk fuckers out there wear sweaters every day. So while the look is cool, fun, often cheap, and full of symbolism, it is absolutely not required to be punk.

My second point: you also don’t have to listen to punk/alternative/pop punk/metal/etc to be a punk. Sure, the music has a lot of historical importance to the subculture, and is still full of punk values, it also isnt required.

What makes someone ‘punk’ is limited only to their values and beliefs.

To go back to what you said anon, a lot of people do relate being ‘punk’ to understanding the past, and there is good reason for it. The punk subculture sprang up in the 70’s, so there is 50 years of history and symbolism there. A LOT of todays punk culture is deeply rooted in punk history. BUT, that doesn’t mean you have to be an expert on all things punk history - most people aren’t. Typically, you’ll naturally learn the history of what matters to you.

Another reason history tends to be important to punks is that politics and history are intertwined. Punk is a counter-culture, that means we are essentially ‘against the mainstream culture’. In today’s world, that is a bit murky and is instead typically thought of as ‘fighting for people’s rights and a better world’ which most of us can agree that in some way, shape, or form, mainstream culture and politics do not do.

So then, what does one have to believe and value to be considered a punk? I’ve mentioned this before in various posts on this blog, and my stance has stayed the same. Here are the 4 things I believe are the most important.

Learn how to think critically - it’s important to be able to come to your own conclusions rather than just blindly believing what others say is important

Learn about issues that are important to you - learning about issues is the first step to being able to understand the world and make it a better place

Be kind to the disadvantaged- one of my favorite quotes “In an age of performative cruelty, being kind is punk as fuck.”

Stay true to yourself and don’t let anyone compromise your values or sense of self

It’s important to remember too, that just like there are different types of punk music, there are also different ‘genres’ of punks. You have straight edge punks, you have anarchists, there are folk punks, crust punks are out there, you have rural punks, there are activists, you have skinheads (I recommend staying away from that group - though admittedly I don’t know much about modern skinhead groups). Each group is going to be unique and different, and may have their own ‘criteria’. For example, most skinheads will probably just cross out my third bullet point. This blog is more of a general punk blog because I want to use it to share punk culture with people.

All this being said, I think the best way to learn about punk culture and what it means to be punk, is to immerse yourself into the punk scenes. And if you like alternative music, its often full of ideology, especially the older stuff. But there is also no one correct way to be punk. If you don’t like mainstream culture, if you want to fight for a better world - you’re punk. I don’t care if you listen to country music and wear business casual, you’re still a punk in my book.

I saw your post about Tim and Jason and I’ve never agreed about something more. We need more fics where them getting closer is at least canon adjacent instead of the stuff we get in fanon. A lot of their fanon content really grosses me out because it sort of reads like Tim developing Stockholm syndrome for Jason who repeatedly abuses him but can’t be blamed for it because of “pit madness” 🤢. That might just be because of my personal experiences but it really grosses me out a lot of the time

YEAH NO I 100% AGREE. I think portraying Tim as automatically forgiving Jason for the awful things he does(TO TIM) and ohh Jason wants to hurt him but its not his faulltt. Is so fucking UEGH. I think its not only a disservice to both of their characters but a really weird dynamic to tag as “fluff” and “hurt/comfort”.

I especially dislike the Titan’s Tower stories not just because they misrepresent the actual scene(which is very ridiculous imo) but because having Jason beat the shit out of Tim and then WRITE ON THE WALLS WITH HIS BLOOD and then being like ohh no he’s his care taker now is so 😨. Like imagine someone beating you so bad THEY CAN WRITE WITH YOUR BLOOD and then them kidnapping you and “taking care of you” thats so fucked…

I think the fandom in general can turn Tim into a bit of a punching bag which… fair. Im not going to pretend like i dont like angst BUT when portraying these traumatic events or his interactions with the people around him they kinda make him… spineless? Which IS a valid trauma response but its not Tim. Tim can be literally on the verge of death and he’ll still probably be shit talking you y’know? He can be self sacrificing yeah but… come on.

IDK. Jason pre reboot is kinda not a great person and i think the fandom WANTS him to be and they want to twist it into “pit madness”(which isnt a long lasting thing) or “he protects women and kids”(does he?) when it just… isn’t true?

Fanon Jason as a whole is just kinda an OC with bits of current Jason mixed into him, he doesn’t exist outside the fandom. This is why i sometimes joke about being a “jason todd hater” when i dont really have much against the character(other than most his comics being shit 😔) but because i dislike some aspects of the fandom he represents.

I do think Tim and Jason have the POTENTIAL to get along. They’re both snarky bastards and that dynamic is fun to write and mess around with but there is A LOT of baggage to unpack. Titans tower stuff aside Tim broke Jason out of prison which resulted in Jason donning a batman suit and killing a bunch if people which Tim feels EXTREME guilt for. So even if pre reboot jason wants something to do with Tim(which i think he does as he continually reaches out to him) there is a lot they would need to work on. Which i admit would be interesting to read but sadly a lot of fics dont really follow the comics that well.

Anyhow closing this off i also want to mention again how the fandom prioritizes Tim’s largely fanon(or lobdell written so shouldnt be acknowledged ) relationship with jason over his long lasting canonical relationships with female characters( Cass and Helena[HELENA IS SUCH A VICTIM OF THIS OH MY GOD AND FANON JASON STEALS SO MANY OF HER TRAITS AN-]) 😔

But yeah fanon jason and tim is weird and i’d be interested to see an actual brotherhood develop between the two but i think it would take a lot of work from the both of them(which DC will definitely not put in 😔)

overall, when ranking the Z arcs, i unfortunately have to put cell arc at the bottom. THAT DOESN’T MEAN ITS BAD BY ANY MEANS THOUGH !!! i love the cell arc, i love cell, i love gohan, i love trunks, i love the androids. its just that when i compare it to the other arcs, it falls a little short lol..

i think the reason i rank it so low compared to other arcs largely has to do with goku and vegeta’s (separate) character arcs lol. it’s both of their WORST arcs by far. neither of them are ever present, and when they are present… theyre not making the best decisions lmfao specifically vegeta man i cannot STAND him in cell arc he really really gets on my nerves. goku is more understandable and requires a deeper explanation but vegeta simply just SUCKS in this arc lmfao

this is gohan’s best arc tho by far. and if ur a fan of side characters like piccolo and krillin then cell arc is a great arc for u ! this is basically everyone’s best arc but goku n vegeta lolol

all in all cell arc is rly great, theres constantly shit happening and everyone is in deep distress 100% of the time which is rly entertaining to watch lmao its also a great arc for a lot of characters, other z fighters who arent goku and vegeta get the chance to shine in this arc and thats epic. unfortunately tho vegeta is unbearable and goku is …. debatably questionable in this arc so it goes at the bottom for me 💔 still adore it tho

My Atsumu headcanons

a/n: some headcanons that have been on my mind of my favorite boy

growing up his dad often worked, so in turn he spent a lot of time with his mom (making him a true momma’s boy)

when him and Osamu were 5 they would hold “magic” shows for their mom. It mainly consisted of Atsumu going behind a wall and Osamu popping out of the other side.

Atsumu suffered from terrible nightmares as a kid,so when Osamu didn’t wake up he would go into his parents room and snuggle in right between him mom and dad. He felt safe there.

As they got older their mom got to busy to watch them all the time so she signed them up for volleyball and they immediately fell in love

The twins loved seeing their mom proud of them at games (especially Atsumu) which lead them to try and practice more tricks together

everyday in elementary school as soon as Atsumu was buckled in the car he wouldn’t shut up about Aran

Momma Miya and Aran’s mom are actually pretty close because of how obsessed the twins are with Aran

through out their first year in highschool Osamu was becoming uninterested in volleyball and preferred preparing dinner with momma miya, but Atsumu would drag him outside to practice sets

Atsumu is not a playboy as everyone fanons him to be

he actually sucks at talking to girls. He gets super in his head about what to say that he comes off as a jerk and feels bad for the rest of the day.

He would always try and help his classmates. He’s definitely a giver, and doesnt often get to be the receiver :(

going along with him being a giver. Thats why he cried when Kita left him food. He was extremely happy that he was thought about what it is like to be on the opposite end

After they lost nationals in their 2nd year. Atsumu became crazy about becoming stronger so much to the point he physically and mentally exhausted himself.

Because he had gotten so sick from exhaustion. he listened to him mom and took a small break from volleyball( obviously still went to practice just not 24/7)

during this break he met a girl who actually stuck around after his failed flirting attempts

and boy did he think he was in love

after a year of dating he had heard for suna and his brother that she cheated on him:(

this broke him. Since she was his first love, and he had given her so much. She was his first kiss, first date, and he lost his virginity to her. For the beginning of this third year he completely lost the light in his eyes.

During this time his nightmares resurfaced this time more realistic, and he caught himself doing the same thing he had done as a kid.

yes, yes He would never admit it but at 17- almost 18 years old- Miya Atsumu and begged his parents at 2 in the morning if he could sleep in between them.

Atsumu gets embarrassed everytime he thinks of it

luckily by nationals he was able to get over her (for the most part) and get ready for university

Surprising, Atsumu was all about grades at uni. He worked his ass off both at school and in the gym.

He had a few girls swoon over him but he wasn’t going to date and of them in fear they would break his heart

Also i see many people fanon that he’s a fuckboy and has a ton of sex but let me make this clear. Atsumu isnt exactly demisexual but he definitely wouldnt want to fuck someone he isn’t in love with or at least sees a future with

thats why i believe he very inexperienced when it comes to sex..so no he didn’t screw around at uni

now back to before uni when Osamu told Atsumu he wasn’t going to continue with volleyball he was really upset but in reality he was heartbroken again (please give him a break)

He yelled and screamed at Osamu and for the first time momma miya had to separate them when they weren’t even physically fighting

He slept on the couch for 3 nights because he refused to sleep in the same bedroom as Osamu.

On the 4th night Atsumu finally knocked on the door and talked out all his feelings with Osamu. And he cried. He cried a lot. Osamu knew better then to make fun of him. Because of this they two made a pack with one another that they would never fight like that again.

anyway enough of him getting hurt. Atsumu’s life turned around after he got recruited for MSBY

He walked into Miya Onigiri ready to tell Osamu the exciting news when he over heard you talking behind the counter to his brother (*wink wink* you see where i’m going with this) “I’m sorry but your brother is honestly-just i-i cant even put it into words. He’s so talented” And yep he tripped into the building.

luckily he did not fall but he managed to create a very dramatic scene.

Embarrassed to say the least he was getting ready to start heading to Osamu again when your Apron got stuck on a table and you tripped right into him spilling about $20 worth of onigiri.

he caught you…in a very odd way (cuz this is realistic) but he caught you

In short you guys started to get very close all because of that very embarrassing meet-cute, and a scolding from Osamu about how you should be more careful.

Finally at 24 Atsumu wasn’t only just a giver but he equally got to be a receiver from you. He wasn’t quite ready for a relationship just yet(and you knew that) but his heart was finally opening up

also on a more random note- one time him and Omi got blackout drunk and bought a bunny. Omi claims it never happened, but the cute, tiny, white bunny in the MSBY dorms says otherwise

You know, despite her railing against it (or perhaps because of, since we all know projection is the name of her game), as someone who has actually watched a playthrough of it, Lily actually reminds me of BOTH the title characters of The Coffin of Andy and Leyley. (Spoiler warning, just in case anyone wants to avoid them)

Ashley (Leyley) is the more obvious comparison. She’s manipulative, lacks compassion, sympathy, and empathy, does horrible things without regret, is quick to choose violence even when there are more pacifistic options, and of course has an incestuous obsession with her older brother, Andrew (Andy). But one route in the second chapter suggests it’s more than just the obvious romantic obsession; she wants him to be EVERY important figure in her life. Her boyfriend, but also her best friend, her brother, her father figure. If she had the chance to rewrite reality so that they were a normal, unrelated couple, she wouldn’t take it, because romance isn’t enough for her. She needs them both to be each other’s entire world.

Andrew’s similarities to Lily, however, are more subtle. At first glance, he seems like the pushover victim of Ashley’s bossiness and obsession, and to some extent he certainly is… except there’s also a strong indication that he uses her as an excuse. That he, on some level, has similar obsessive feelings towards her, but is more disgusted by them, and so uses her domineering, manipulative attitude as an excuse to convince himself that’s he’s a victim, not an accomplice. That he can’t leave her not because he wants to stay, but because something bad will happen if he does, because she will hurt him, herself, or others. And so he keeps doing horrible things because he can convince himself it’s not his fault.

Furthermore, it’s implied that despite her perverted jokes and comments, Ashley does draw a line at actually having sex with her brother, but Andrew secretly wants to. In a flashback, he asks his (ex) girlfriend to tie up her hair, which is how Ashley wears her hair. The girlfriend, Julia, says he’ll “tug on it again” and implies he’s asked her to do this before. She also looks somewhat similar to Ashley, although this may be in part due to the game’s semi-monochromatic art style. And in the previously mentioned route of chapter two, Ashley and Andrew are given a vision of a possible future that HEAVILY implies they had sex. When they wake up from the vision, Andrew looks more embarrassed than mortified. Ashley, on the other hand, says at least once in the game that sex is the one thing Julia (and any other girl who wants to date him) can give Andrew that Ashley can’t, and while she does consider it at the end of the route with the vision in chapter two, this is the ONLY time she actually seems serious about it, and she ONLY considers it in that specific route, plus her wording implies she’s considering it more as a means to keep her brother around and loyal than anything else.

So, yeah. This is much longer than I intended it to be, but what I’m saying, basically, is that not only is Lily more like Ashley than you could ever be, but if she tries comparing you to her again, just remember that that means she’s comparing herself to Andrew, a guy who’s implied to play the victim despite his crimes because he wants to bang his sister.

We’re gonna start with Erratum!!! The man, the legend, the OG, the absolute inspiration to many many alternates.

The whole point of Erratum’s story, HWHBB, is to show the end result of everything. To show how far he’s come, to show how many things he has tried, to show the true tragedy of how this is how it’s played out.

After everything he’s done and that’s happened to him, he’s tired. He was given a grand injustice, despite being good.

In fact, the pain reason why he can’t be healed isn’t because he’s pathetic or because he’s an Error, but rather just because how he’s been treated. He’s never had anyone to introduce healing magic to him, which is designated as an entirely different brand of normal magic. It’s the fact that it was introduced so much later that made it so that he couldn’t be healed. And even then, he could “heal” on his own. He was used to that method as well. He simply only went to “get healed” because the people in the new multiverse freaked out about it.

Because something to keep in mind is simply that Erratum never had a support system. Not a single one. Not at any point in his time as a god of destruction. He’s only ever truly gotten that after throwing himself into the void.

People might be angry at me about that one, but it’s true. No one supported himself, his work, or job. Some people might say it was Nightmare, but he never actually did that. In fact, Nightmare fought and beat him up many times due to Erratum simply not wanting to join. It states in HWHBB that Nightmare even tried to poison Erratum into joining and aiding him. Nightmare tried countless ones, and even took Error to a naturally poisonous AU.

Not long after that, Harrish explained that it “eventually became a bonding past time” in Erratum’s eyes. This isn’t Error developing a support system, even if people treated it as such. Because Nightmare still poisoned him. I hate to break it to you folks but if someone hurts you as they listen to you, even if they “listen”, they’re not an actual friend or person who can support you. Erratum might have claimed them as “his”, but they could never support him.

This is true for Dust, too. Dust has always tried to kill Erratum, and his attempts lead to “bonding time”. Not a true friendship, because if they REALLY were to become friends, it would have stopped.

But it never did.

They always tried. Even if they knew, even if they saw it happen a hundred times, they’d always keep trying.

As for the others, they relied on Erratum or looked up to him far too much to. The Chara’s, Killer, Horror, Cross- they never TRULY saw him. Never fully got to that point to do that. Erratum has always, ALWAYS done things for them. They have never done something for him. And for the most part, that was because they simply couldn’t. Their powers and knowledge- they could never be able to truly do something that would have ever helped Erratum.

There is only one person in HWHBB who could have supported Erratum. And that was Blue.

Blue was the one who brought Erratum out of his madness (which Nightmare had been upset about, mind you). Blue became his friend. Blue listened to Erratum and learned the truth. Never once did he raise a hand to Erratum. He greeted Erratum’s destruction with kindness and understanding.

He gave Erratum true mercy. The kind you give Asriel at the end of the game. The kind that’s given to Asgore.

It’s his first taste of it. Of true, unstoppable and understanding, mercy.

And he felt so bad about it, so guilty for doing that to a soul as merciful and understanding as Blue’s, that he lets Blue go.

And what does Blue do?

He proves it wasn’t just an act. He proves that his words and actions were not empty. That he genuinely cared for Erratum, and you know what? It was perfect, because he was in a position to do something about it.

And he was banned from seeing Erratum again.

Not just from Ink and Dream, not just from the council- but from his entire AU too. From all his alternates. They’re all constantly keeping an eye on him, because they were never a true support for Blue either. Blue became isolated in almost every way imaginable, and he was only allowed back on the council when he stopped suffering from what they declared was “Stockholm syndrome”. And Blue did that in the hopes that he could still somehow help.

But Erratum wouldn’t let him, because he knows that if Blue did, he’d suffer even worse.

And so Erratum forbid himself to ever see the only one who could truly support him ever again, for their sole benefit.

Erratum is self-sacrificial, and depressed, and by the time we see him he has gone through ALL of this. He’s gone in and out of insanity, he’s found and pushed away support for their own sanity, he’s tried to kill himself in hundreds of thousands of ways, and of those ways he continued to try them many, MANY times.

Even though he knew they wouldn’t work. He did it anyway, because he hated his very existence to the point that the only reason he pushed on was for those he called “his”.

And yet none of them could help him.

HWHBB takes place at the end of Erratum’s story. He’s even pushed his will to keep going for what is his to the end of it’s rope. He’s run out of the will to keep that reason alive, to continue to truly care for it. Or even pretends that he still does.

And for everything that he’s been through? For the horrors that have been his life?

It’s not pathetic that he fell into the void. It’s not pathetic that he can’t heal.

It’s a tragedy.

And it’s a miracle that he was sent elsewhere. A miracle that he found a multiverse out of Fate’s reach that could support him. And I know it’s controversial in some circles that Null and Void were given to him because getting children absolutely doesn’t fix anything- but Erratum cared about them long enough that the support system found him. Null and Void were the ONLY reason he went to mobtale, that Mob was able to call Ink, that Erratum didn’t instantly run away and even allowed himself to be brought into the Omnivoid. That he allowed himself to stay there.

And now, he has a support system and he’s healing.

As his multiverse falls apart because he never had more than one supporting him, as Ink realizes his mistakes and everyone dies in a series of explosions, as various people face the horrors of what has happened and the fact that they drove the only thing keeping them alive…

Erratum finally obtains peace.

And it’ll be a while before he’s fully healed and before he allows himself to be treated right, for him to accept it, before he sees himself and believes that he truly deserves this, but… it’ll happen. It’s assured now.

And that’s the true beauty of OG FGOD. One that many don’t touch, due to various reasons. Wanting Nightmare’s gang to be a proper support, wanting to get him a lover, etc. the only one I can think of that also properly shows this is actually FGOD:AS.

Part of me wants more people to explore that side of things, but… a part of me feels like that’s what made OG FGOD, OG FGOD. The majority of people leaving that part of it be is almost like placing flowers at a memorial. It’s done out of respect and out of love, because OG FGOD does it in such a beautifully harrowing way. It’s why we all love it so much. It’s why it became so special to the point that it gained its own fandom.

As for FGOC Ink, he’s not pathetic for reasons that are the exact opposite Erratum’s.

And the whole point of why he was small was BECAUSE they were so opposite. OG FGOD was a poem and tribute to those who are hated and beaten and bullied, to those who aren’t given a thought because their whole existence is “wrong” and have embraced it.

FGOC’s is a nod to those who have gotten mixed responses, to those who have been sent hate by everyone but a few (justified or not), to those who are always seeking something positive from their peers and then have their hard work smacked out of their hands and tossed to the side. Who choose to not embrace that they are hated and try over and over again to prove that they are something.

Ink is soft spoken and his voice is hard to hear because Artist’s voices are, sadly, often unheard.

He’s small because that’s how you feel when everyone hates you.

He’s dressed in rags because he works so hard to please the voices of someone who is demanding to the point that they are never satisfied.

He’s a pacifist because he wants to be liked.

He made Dream and Nightmare because he didn’t want to be alone.

When he found out that what he created was real, he was horrified and tried to stop. Like how some artists are told to stop creating because it makes people uncomfortable, or because it’s a controversial topic, or because someone took it (or something That was said/done AGES ago) the wrong way and people hopped on that bandwagon.

He’s burnt out to the point that two people on Nightmare’s team (Outer and Cross) have been tasked to just hang out with and try to help inspire Ink.

Ink has a support system. But he doesn’t use it. He avoids it, even, because he’s supposed to do it by himself. Like how artists are “supposed” to “not use references” or how they’re “supposed” to “constantly make art” or how they’re “supposed” to make the “morally right things”.

Because none of that is how it is supposed to be. But he’s convinced himself that that’s the case. And they’re rules that he ONLY applies to himself. If someone were in his same position, he’d recommend doing things how it’s supposed to be done. With friends and support and breaks, doing whatever you want even if it’s gross and ugly. It’s for their enjoyment, they should do whatever they want. No one else should have a say in what they make- especially if it’s fictional. Especially if it doesn’t effect real people.

Like his does.

So not with himself.

No, never with himself.

And it’s not like it was SUPPOSED to be like this, either. Ink is Fate’s favorite child. That’s the only reason why he actually has a support system that he doesn’t use. Fate made the OG multiverse for Ink to have fun with, but since OG FGOD Ink destroyed that by chasing Erratum away, Fate needed to find a different way to keep it alive while still letting Ink have fun. Ink wasn’t supposed to have all that trouble. And then Error came along and cut everything down because he didn’t like it, and Fate had to throw Ink out there before Fate destroyed a second multiverse.

And Ink grew into the things that Fate had never wanted him to grow into, and believed things Fate never wanted him to believe, because Ink “deviated from what was normal and expected”.

It’s not pathetic. It’s a tragedy, one that’s just as tragic as Erratum’s. You can’t see it because FGOC started from the middle and not the end, but like Erratum Ink will snap one day. He’ll snap and it will break everything apart.

And there won’t be any stopping it, because the only people who could try to stop it are too upset with what he’s made and the “mess” that he creates TO actually care.

While jokingly both of them could be called “pathetic” and “weak”, they’re truly are anything but.

To properly and truly think that either are pathetic would be like looking back at a 13-14 y/o with greasy hair and B.O. and baggy shirts and pants at the back of the classroom and think that they shouldn’t be at school or a part of anything. That doesn’t do homework and is failing all their classes and passing out on their desk in the middle of first or second period. That just sits there tuping away on the borrowed Chromebook or writing in their notebook anything but notes.

Why should they when they CLEARLY don’t care and don’t want to be there? Why waste time on them? Why even care?

But the reality is that they’re struggling. Struggling because their family is so hard in poverty that they get shoes from school for Christmas. That their family brings them whenever they find a place handing out free lunches, because they can’t afford any more food because they can’t get any more food stamps. That their mom is going through chemo therapy and college at the same time in the hopes that she can make things better for the future. That their dad is technically unemployed because substitute teaching jobs only pop up once a week and that’s all he can get because everywhere else he could go considers him overqualified. Because he tried to become a doctor but no one wants to accept him into residency and all that school debt just kept growing and growing.

Because they have to care for their siblings and partially raise them because their mom was too tired and their dad was always out because he never stopped searching or trying for that other job, even if it wouldn’t happen for years. That they were just a little kid who happened to be the eldest child, because the only reason they weren’t out on the streets begging for money and struggling day to day was because their extended family loved them.

That they knew what everyone at school thought of them and hated themselves for it to the point that the only reason they were still living was because their siblings and parents looked up to and depended on them. Because they NEEDED to be there and live or everything else would fall apart, and they couldn’t let it fall apart. Not for them, but because they couldn’t stand the thought of letting people down.

And that the only reason why they were in school was because it made their parents happy. And because the only reason why they were always writing on their notebook or typing on the computer was because it was the only thing that they had managed to find in the dark depressing spiral that was their life was writing stories. Stories about the shows they watched for both theirs and their siblings pleasure and happiness, because it was their escape.

You can joke about them being pathetic if you want. I don’t mind. I joke about it to myself too. They’re fictional after all.

But i don’t joke about myself.

Not anymore.

Because that 13-14 y/o kid sitting in baggy clothes, greasy hair and horrible B.O. lived through that. And they didn’t go through all that pain and suffering just for their older self to call them pathetic. They weren’t put through professional therapy outside of school even though their parents could barely afford any other pleasantries for that.

So as long as it’s a joke, and it stays fictional, I’ll laugh along.

But only so long as you know that it isn’t true. And that they were never pathetic to begin with.

analysing the fuck out of byler rn (this took like 3 hours and also was done on google docs sorry for the random ass punctuation and grammar inconsistencies)

first we are gonna touch on the Byer’s phone line always being used so Mike only gets to call Will sometimes. But from what Dustin said, Mike was complaining about it constantly. We also know that Mike and El spoke through letters and the radio because of the government listening in on phone calls (and El is supposed to be dead). So Mike and Will’s primary way to communicate is via phone calls, but Mike was unable to reach Will most of the time.

Let’s just hammer in this very important piece of the puzzle: Will believes Mike is deeply in love with El.

Will thinks Mike is not calling and ignoring him because he’s more focused on El. He believes Mike just doesn’t care about their friendship anymore. However, because of this, Will also didn’t try calling Mike. This creates distance and tension between the two, but they also are completely unaware of the actual issue at hand...

...thats a mega miscommunication moment. Now it’s also Mike who thinks Will is ignoring him. The difference is, Will doesnt have a significant other to be focused on. Mike just thinks Will is ignoring him or pushing him away (Will mentions “el” (he’s talking about his own actions but under the guise of El) pushing mike away in the van scene. But i’ll talk about this in the van scene part). This makes Mike act passive aggressive. Not only does he ignore Will at Rink o Mania, he picks a fight with him too

When Will says “Oh no” when El is with Angela, Mike immediately stands up beside him. He has no idea that angela is picking on el. The reason he stands up SO QUICKLY is because hes alone with Will and Will said something. Look at mikes face after will says ‘oh no’. Like……… ??????

The rink o mania fight (going to tie this to the van scene)

“You should have told me she was having trouble”

“I didnt know she was lying to you.” 

Being a douche and ruining an entire day out apparently entails “rolling your eyes, moping and barely talking”. Not the fact his gf just got publicly harassed and is now unable to be found. Mike is focused on Will, the guy he was “ignoring” all day. He had his attention on Will the entire time instead of El. HE NOTICED HIM ROLL HIS EYES???? BRUH

“Shes being lying to you all day” “i feel like a total third wheel”

“What about us?” Will does not mean this romantically. He thinks Mike is in love with El. He has absolutely zero idea that Mike likes him back.

Mike, however, takes this romantically. We can see it in his face, the soft expression even though they were just fighting.

“We’re friends! We’re friends.”

“We used to be best friends”

Which is true. These two were inseparable

“Maybe you should have reached out more, i dont know. Why is this on me? Why am i the bad guy?” this line hurts because he isn’t the bad guy. He’s having his own issues and he also thought Will was ignoring him out of spite

Now, the first bit tells Will that Mike wanted Will to reach out more, but Will still isnt aware that Mike was trying to call him. A lot.

OKAY mike and el fight now

Mike made her eggos. He sits on her bed (parallels with that byler scene in dear billy).

“So, um, are we just gonna not talk about it?” he says this kinda rudely tbh

Mike doesnt understand why El is lying to him

El says shes different and does not belong

Also this whole fight scene??? Hes so insincere. He doesnt know how to comfort her. He also cant take the blame or admit that he doesnt love her. “I care for you.” Hes not trying to be malicious, hes just stupid

“You dont love me anymore?”

“Who said that I didnt?” YOU DID MICHAEL

This is important, as it explains some of mike’s actions and words later on

Will sits next to him. Mike has a gay panic

“Me and el had a bad fight. This one felt adult. Felt more real. Like its a fight you cant come back from (a break up). Maybe i should have said something. Maybe if i had said that thing (i love you), she would want me there with her”

“We’re going to find her, and whatever you didnt say, you can say it to her then”

Mike is still having a gay moment. Bro is mesmerized. Now here comes the flirty part

“Shes going to be ok. Shes not in hawkins, thats what we should be worried about”

“You dont trust owens?”

“That was you guys who saved me. You guys.” AND MIKE LOOKS SO SMUGGGG ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!@?@#!@!&#@ even will’s reaction is sus. They are gay

“Look like its going to be up to us again” hes not looking at will here. I also think hes flirting here too. He looks back once will replies,

“It always is, isnt it?” and then michael has that big ass grin after a little chuckle. Homosexual

In will’s eyes, this is him fixing mike and el’s relationship. He doesnt know the real reason why they were fighting. To him, the words “i love you” are just “something mike didnt say to her during the fight”. Perhaps he just thinks its an apology that mike needs to say

But he didnt fix their relationship, because the issue is much bigger than some random thing Mike didnt say. Because its not a random thing. Hes not in love with her. Will thinks Mike is in love with her, and Mike still thinks him and el are probably going to breakup

NEXT BYLER SCENE!!!!

may i mention and yes ive already said this on tumblr but mike thinks his relationship with el is pretty much over. and then he goes and starts flirting with will… gay!

Mike enters. He closes the door behind him this time. Probably because he starts FLIRTING RIGHT OFF THE BAT

He checks out will and licks his lips like ok 

“Thanks, by the way. (“for what?”) For knocking some sense into me, i mean, i was being a total self pitying idiot”

Self-pity: ‘When you feel sorry for yourself, or overly sad about the difficulties you face’. His self-pitying was being ignored by Will and acting like it was the end of the world

“I didnt say it” SLY SMIRK

“You didnt have to” FLIRTING!!!!! WILL BLUSHES AND TURNS AWAY

Then mike is like ‘ok stop flirting go back to what u originally wanted to say’ and he shakes his head and talks in a different tone…

“About the last two days..” the airport scene, ignoring will at rink o mania and fighting with him, and then mike staring at the letter in the last byler scene.

“You dont have to say anything. I was being a total jerk to El, i deserved it”

“No, no, you didnt deserve anything.” mike is saying will didnt deserve to be ignored and yelled at by mike. Mike knows hes in the wrong, but he couldnt admit he was in the wrong when he was fighting with el? okay!

Now Mike has Will’s attention,

“It’s hawkins. It’s not the same without you. And I feel like maybe I was worrying too much about El and.. i dont know, maybe i feel like i lost you or something. Does that make sense?”

In the script, it tells us that it makes total sense to will. He feels the exact same way that Mike does. Mike feels the exact same way that Will does, and we know that Will loves Mike. do u see where im getting at

“I have no idea whats going to happen next” hes either talking about his relationship with El or the actual events occurring (the upside down, reaching el, etc)

Mike and Will lock eyes

Mike is trying to fix what had been damaged since they were separated a year ago. He wants them to work as a team, and be best friends again, since they had been accidently avoiding one another

Ah… episode 5. The on top of the car scene where they are literally talking about confessing to each other. No, they arent actually just talking about argyle and the agent dude not saying the number. Mike is talking about the fight with el again, saying he should have explained himself, and then maybe El would have taken him with her and things would be different, but he didn’t know what to say.

He did know what to say. “I love you”. But he didnt, because he doesnt love her

Then Will starts talking about confessing feelings, “Sometimes I think its just scary to open up like that, to say how you really feel. Especially to the people you care about the most.”

The camera is on Mike now. His expression is soft and hes watching Will intently

“What if they dont like the truth?” Mike looks down and nods. Ah, the truth. And whats the truth? That Mike doesn’t love El. Hes too scared to tell her the truth. Maybe hes too scared to admit the truth to himself, too

Their moment is seized by argyle speaking

Every moment from here to ep 8 isnt any deep or intimate conversations so ill ignore them

AND NOW

THE VAN SCENE. Which is exactly why i rewatched every other scene so i could link them to whats being said. Here goes

Will brings up El and going to Vegas with her to use her powers to win money. He’s also saying it excitedly, which is mentioned in the script. This is when hes being lit with sunlight like a disco ball, and when Mike is looking at him like hes the most beautiful boy hes ever seen

Then Will mentions playing D&D and Nintendo for the rest of their lives. A direct callback to their fight in s3 that hasnt been brought up SINCE it happened. Makes sense for them to finally mention it

But thats why Mike’s mood changes. The motive behind the vibe change is the fight being brought up. Will thinks it's because he was being childish and made it awkward, and he also thinks it's because of El (which is why he starts talking about her again, but more on that in a bit).

Will believes Mike loves El. Mike and Will’s fight was because of Mike spending too much time with El and ignoring Will and the rest of the party (because Mike was trying to get rid of his gay thoughts). Mike is the one who brings up playing games together for the rest of their lives. And then Will, always having loved Mike, says “Yeah. I guess I did.” ouch

Will isnt going to think Mike is upset because of the garage fight. But of course Mike is upset about it, because Mike is gay too. Mike regrets the fight. he regretted it WHEN the fight happened!! 

So will brings up el again because he must be upset about el, right? 

“We’re gonna make it, mike. Shes going to be okay”

[nervously] “Yeah, i know. I know she is.” He wasn’t worrying about El being in trouble, which is what will thinks the issue is

[contemplatively] “but what if after all this is over, she doesn’t need me anymore?” 

We’ve been over this before.

Will is always trying to fix his and El’s relationship. Why would they break up if they are both in love? In jonathan’s bedroom, he tried fixing their relationship: “Whatever you didnt say then, you can say after we save her.” but its not that easy, because Mike literally cannot say “i love you”, and he definitely can’t say it in a genuine way, either

So yes. They have been over this before, and will can’t seem to understand why Mike needs to keep talking about it because ‘isnt it just something you want to say to her?’

Mike’s rant is pretty just him saying that him and el are going to breakup because they didn’t meet because of ‘fate’ or ‘destiny’ and theres no greater reason for them to stay together or be in love. No higher power has told them to be in love. Hes just some nerd that got lucky that superman came to his aid when he lost Will.

his rant, at its core, is mike trying to convince will that him and el arent working out, and that mike might not love her anymore, or maybe never did. he wants will to agree with him, but he doesn't, because will thinks mike loves el. hes not going to try and sabotage their relationship because he respects them both

also mike is sus af for regarding himself as lois lane (a woman) and his GIRLFRIEND as superman (A MAN)

Will doesn’t get what Mike is saying. He doesn’t understand what the issue is because he wouldn't think Mike doesn't love El. i mean, mike hasn't actually shown any disinterest in El to other characters. we only know hes queer because we see private moments between el and mike and how not in love he acts and how IN LOVE he acts with will. mike is TRYING to admit he doesn't love el but will misunderstands completely

Mike sees Will’s reaction and immediately apologises

Then we have “You’re scared of losing her.” i think we should all know by now that its MIKE who was talking about losing will in the dear billy scene. And ive always thought that in this part, when will said that, mike wasn’t thinking of el. He was thinking of will. The way they are looking at each other here… why would they both react like that when will is talking about mike’s girlfriend? Perhaps its because MIKE ISNT THINKING ABOUT EL

They lock eyes. A BEAT; then: Mike nods

he’s scared of losing Will. but he goes along with what will is saying, because hes too scared to actually continue with the confession he was originally going to make. He wasnt expecting will to say that, was he? He must have had more to say, but then will changed the subject

When Will lies about the painting, not only is it the first time he ever lies to mike, but it creates that miscommunication again. They dont understand what the other is saying

(Will tries to get what Mike is saying) and (Now its Mike who doesn’t get it)

These ones are the killers. We know exactly what Will is talking about during his confession. He’s confessing his feelings under the guise of El. Mike doesn’t get that Will is talking about himself!

But if Will didnt get what mike was trying to say then mike wasn't actually "scared of losing her", bringing me back to my point about his rant: He was trying to admit he didn’t love El and he was under the impression that he was going to inevitably break up with her. They aren’t meant for each other, they aren’t fate or destiny.

Mike doesn’t get it, though. He really does believe Will is talking about El’s feelings. I mean, that is what will was trying to do, anyway; fix mike and el’s relationship. but mike is in love with will, and mike feels the exact same way that will does (Mike also feels different, hes been ostracized and bullied, he’s scared of losing will), so it makes sense that Will's speech gives Mike the desire to try and salvage his relationship with El. Mike doesnt fully comprehend his falling out of love with El, obviously. His attempt to fix everything with a shitty monologue backfires when it fails miserably. His monologue wasnt genuine because he doesnt love her. Will gave Mike his feelings, not El’s. and mike and will are soulmates , so yes, hes going to think that the relationship advice is going to solve everything, and will even brought up points mike didnt think about! and now hes like damn ok will doesn't like me and maybe i could make it work with el

ok now im just ranting sorry
