Maya fanfic part 12!
sorry I haven’t posted in awhile, I just lost a bit of motivation and had a bit of a writers blank, but I have some more ideas now so the next chapter shouldn’t be as long of a wait. Thank you for your patience. 🫶
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next few days consisted of you doing viewings for your apartment and some one had made an offer.
Turning the key and opening Maya’s door you were greeted firstly by Mocha.
“How did it go?”. Maya asked, watching you bend down to pet him.
“Some one made an offer”. You replied, a smile displayed across your face.
“That’s great”. She said, bringing you into a hug as soon as you stood back up.
“Have you heard anything about the new apartment yet?”.
“No not yet”.
“I’m sure we will soon”.
“Hopefully”.
“Hopefully on your birthday tomorrow”. She said, with a big smile.
“That would be good”.
“It will oldie”. She teased.
“I’m only five months older than you”. You rolled your eyes.
“That’s a long time”. She chuckled.
You laughed and walked into the kitchen to get a snack as you were hungry.
“So what would you like to do tomorrow for your birthday?”. She asked.
“Hmm…we could go to the beach if you want?”. You knew Maya loved the beach and she hasn’t been yet since joining, you wanted to make the day enjoyable for both of you.
“Are you sure? what’s the weather going to be like?” She replied trying to not seem as excited as she really was.
“I think it’s meant to be sunny for a few hours, then it will go cloudy. If it’s too bad we can just walk around the shops for a bit, but it will probably be too cold to go in the sea”.
“Okay, but i’m use to going in the sea whatever temperature”.
“Oh sorry Guernsey girl”. You joked sarcastically. You’ve lived in Manchester your whole life so you only went to the beach if it was summer or if you were on holiday.
She laughed at you slightly pushing your back. This made you slightly hobble to the side due to your cut foot that was still healing.
“Heyy”.
“Have you been hobbling around all day for the viewings?”.
“Slightly”.
She laughed back at you.
“It’s my birthday tomorrow, don’t be mean”.
“I’m only joking”. She replied wrapping her arms around you and softly kissing your neck.
“Hmm”.
“I’ll make it up to you tomorrow”.
“Okay”. You smiled.
- The next day -
Slowly opening your eyes you realised it was your birthday. Usually you spent past birthday mornings with your family, however this year since you were going out with Maya to the beach earlier on, you were seeing them later for dinner.
Speaking of Maya you looked to the side of you and noticed she wasn’t there. Sighing you realised she was probably already downstairs so you would have to get out your nice warm bed. As soon as you got downstairs you saw Maya making breakfast.
“Good morning”. You said, with a tired smile.
“Morning…no, no I was going to give you this in bed, I didn’t know you were awake”.
“May it’s ok, i’ll just eat it now that i’m here”. You chuckled.
“Are you sure?”. She asked.
“Yes,i’m sure”.
“Alright then, I just thought since it was your birthday…happy birthday!”. She said eventually, too busy focused on preparing breakfast she forgot to say.
“Thank you”. You laughed as she brought you into a hug.
“I’ll give you your presents later”.
“You didn’t have to get me anything”.
“Of course I do, it’s your birthday”.
“Usually I just get bank transfers nowadays”.
“Oh..well not this year”. She smiled, handing you breakfast that she cooked.
“Hmm are you sure you made this, it actually looks nice”. You joked.
“Heyy, i’m an amazing cook”.
“Has anyone told you that?”.
“Well…no, but I think I am”.
You laughed back at her. “Well I think you’re an amazing cook”.
“Aww thanks”. She replied, slightly blushing.
“Do you still want to go to the beach in a few hours?”. You asked.
“Of course, i’ve been excited all day”.
“Aww how cute”.
“I’m not cute”.
“Yes you are”. You chuckled.
- A few hours later -
“I can’t find my bikini anywhere”. You groaned searching through every crevice of Maya’s bedroom and some boxes you haven’t fully unpacked when you said you were going to unpack them a week ago.
“Do you want to open your presents now or later?” Maya asked.
“I don’t care, i’m just trying to find my bikini first”.
“Oh…ok sorry”. She said disheartened.
You brushed a hand along your face. “Maya I didn’t mean it like that, i’m sorry of course I care about what you generously got me. I’m just stressed as we’re already half an hour behind because of me”.
“It’s fine, I understand I shouldn’t have asked you now”.
“No it’s not your fault”. You replied wrapping your arms around her and straddling her lap as she sat on the side of the bed, watching her bedroom become a mess.
“Well if you can’t find your bikini I guess you’ll have to swim naked”. Maya joked.
“I’m not sure if the other people on the beach will like that”.
“But I would”.
“Very funny Le tiss”. You replied, playfully pushing her head to the side.
“Hmm that’s a nickname you’ve not called me before”.
“Well i’ll call it you until we find my bikini”. You said getting off her.
“Well I like it”.
“Of course you do”. You chuckled. “Oh and i’ll open my presents at the beach as we won’t have time now”.
“That’s okay”. She grinned.
-
You were now in Maya’s car along with her and Mocha as you started your hour long drive to the beach. Eventually you managed to find your bikini that ended up at the pit of the box you typically last looked in.
Luckily the weather was on your side as the sun was creeping through the clouds but it was still quite windy and chilly.
There was a few people along the sandy beach but not many as it was November. Maya walked Mocha as well as carrying the bags as she insisted.
“It’s so nice here”. You said as you lay a blanket out for you both to sit on.
“Yes it is, reminds me of home”. She replied with a big smile. She then let Mocha off his lead as there wasn’t that many people around. He straight away made a break for the sea.
“I can tell someone loves the beach”. You said, watching him splash in the water.
“Yes, whenever I go back to Guernsey with my family we always take him there”. You then looked back to her and she was already undressed ready to go in.
“Someone’s eager”.
“I’ve just not been swimming for awhile”.
“Same to be fair”. You then started to get unchanged, however it was so cold you started shivering finding it hard to even take your t-shirt off.
“C’mon you get used to it after a bit”.
“I dunno it’s too cold, but i don’t want to get my shirt wet”.
She then rubbed both your arms. “It’ll be fine, just stay close to me..you can wear my shirt if you want”.
“N-no i’ll just brave it”.
“You sure?”.
"Yep”. You replied not confidently at all.
Slowly you made it to the shore, dipping your toes in the freezing cold water. Maya quickly merged herself into the water as if it didn’t faze her at all. Cold water swimming is meant to be good for you.
“C’mon it’s not that bad”. She said, holding out a hand.
“Maybe for you”.
“I’ll ease you into it then”:
“Fine”. You replied, holding her hand then slowly going deeper, even though your body fought against it. But unexpectedly she then pulled you up to her quickly submerging your whole body. “Heyy”. You whined as you were in slight shock, however not long later you realised she was right, it wasn’t that bad.
She held your thighs as you wrapped your legs around her, still trying to gain as much heat as you could.
“How are you feeling?”. She asked.
“Well a lot better now i’m next to you”. You chuckled.
“Good”. She replied, however you noticed her eyes were starting to wonder down.
“My eyes are up here”.
“Y-yeah”. She replied, her face starting flush, she couldn’t be discreet at anything to save her life. Instead you lifted her chin up and brought her into a kiss, her hand moving to hold the back of your neck.
“Hmm”. She hummed after you broke the kiss. However not soon after your body started shivering again.
“Do you want to get out now?”.
“If that’s okay”.
“Of course, I don’t mind as long as you’re okay”. She replied, starting to carry you out the water, you still wrapped around her. Mocha then started following you back to your belongings.
“I need to leave in a few hours for my family dinner anyway”.
“Oh yeah, that’s fine”. She replied handing you a towel, but quickly looked you up and down one last time before your towel surrounded you. You just laughed at her, but couldn’t help but do the same.
Unfortunately there was nowhere for you to get changed so you thought you would have to uncomfortably wear your cold, wet swimwear under you clothes until you got home.
“Do you want me to shield you with the towel if you want to get changed, there’s no one else around”.
“Actually that would be good thanks”. Shortly you did the same for her and started packing some things away.
“I’ll give you one present now and the rest later”. Maya said with a big smile.
“Aww thank you, you really didn’t have to ge-“. She covered your mouth before you could finish the sentence.
“Here”. She replied handing it you. You then nervously opened it. She didn’t take her eyes off you, watching for your reaction.
It was a pandora necklace with a heart on it.
“Oh my God Maya this is so beautiful, but they’re so expensive”.
“That doesn’t matter, you deserve it”.
“Are you sure?”.
“Of course i’m sure, let me see it on you”. She clipped it on and as she lay eyes back on you her face lit up.
“You look incredible”.
“Thank you”. You replied, quickly wrapping your arms around her holding her body close. “I love you softie”.
“Love you too”. She replied trying to hide the tears that were nearly falling down her cheeks.
“Aww don’t, cos i’ll start crying now”.
“I-it’s because it’s windy”. She said unconvincingly.
“Yeah right”. You giggled.
She laughed at you whilst wiping her eyes, you doing the same.
“Let’s get some lunch then, i’m hungry”.
“Me too”. You replied, but couldn’t stop smiling.
The rest of the day consisted of you having lunch at a cute coffee shop and walking Mocha around the small village. Before you knew it you were already back at Maya’s.
“Here’s one last present before you leave”. Maya said, with a big grin.
“You’re too kind”. You replied, and starting unwrapping it expecting nothing much. It was a pandora ring that matched the necklace. “Oh my God, Maya I can’t take this, you’ve spent too much”. You said almost in tears again.
“I want you to have it”. She replied, putting it on your finger, it fitted perfectly.
“I don’t know what to say…thank you”. Bringing her into a hug once again.
“I didn’t want to give it to you earlier in case you lost it in the sea”.
“Yes knowing my luck i probably would have”. You laughed.
“Well I hope you have a nice time with your family”.
“Would you like to meet them?”.
“Oh um I dunno, i’ll have to look after Mocha, I do want to at some point though”. She said nervously.
“No it’s fine I understand, but i’m gonna miss you”. You said leaning towards her.
“I’ll miss you too”. She replied, moving her hands down the sides of your dress. You brought her into a kiss, trying to savour every second with her before you leave in a few minutes.
Pulling away your breath taken by her, you watched her face filled with love.
“I should actually go now, I don’t want to be late to my own party”.
“Fine, but promise you’ll come back later, I have something else for you”.
“You got another thing!”.
“Yes”. She smiled.
“Okay, I pinky promise”. You replied linking your little fingers together. She laughed back at you, watching you walk towards the door however you couldn’t help but kiss her goodbye one last time.
“See you later”. She grinned.
“Bye softie”. You hugged her and made your way to your car, she watched until your car had turned the corner and out of sight.

Book asks (pick and choose if you want): 1, 50, 51, 67, 77, 119, 121?
1. A book close to your heart
There are obviously a lot of books I could put here, some I've talked about before, some I haven't, and I've been mulling over which to choose and I'm going to go with The Witch Trade by Michael Molloy, which I read when was about 11 and which in which probably is in a lot of ways a fairly ordinary children's fantasy book but something about the world and its characters captured my imagination and have stayed with me ever since. It even inspired some of my own characters, and for that will always hold a special place in my heart.
50. A book that made you cry a LOT
Again, a number of books could go here - especially if I read tired I'm more likely to cry at anything! But Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers is definitely one that stands out in memory - it's a number of interweaving storylines and one of them in particular absolutely broke my heart and made me weep buckets. (If you've read it, I'm sure you know which one.)
51. A book that you found underwhelming
I recently read The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley - I'd seen so many glowing reviews and amazing things said about her writing and since it was a fantasy Victorian setting I thought it would be right up my street, so I was disappointed when I read it and found it okay at best. I was underwhelmed by the characters and found the plot meandering with several setups that fell flat like she didn't quite know what to do with them in the end, and I finished it feeling very "eh, was that it?".
67. Your favourite historical fiction novel
This should absolutely not be a surprise because it has to be The Secret Countess by Eva Ibbotson. I absolutely adore that book and have read it so many times, and sometimes just pick it up and read a random bit to get a fix of the characters and writing.
77. A book so useless you could use it as a coaster
Ooh now you're asking. And okay, I may be biased because I was made to read it in school and that inevitably doesn't help but I think Cold Mountain is an utterly pointless book. So much so I cannot even remember the author off the top of my head because I've tried so hard to forget about it. I hated it, I hated studying it and the only reason I would ever want to see it again is to use it as a coaster.
119. Your favourite summer read
I have so many fond memories of buying second hand Nancy Drew books to read on holiday as a kid, but if I was picking a book now for a summer holiday or to take to a beach I think I'd probably grab The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows - it's such a wonderful breezy read but full of depth and wonderful characters, and despite dealing with serious topics it's so uplifting and the romance is top tier. Everything I'd want for summer.
121. A book that makes you feel nostalgic
Most of my favourite childhood books make me feel nostalgic these days but the Chrestomanci series by Diana Wynne Jones is definitely one that I vividly remember reading for the first time and that takes me back to when I would spend entire days just reading and doing nothing else, that always gets me thinking, "Why don't I do this any more?"

Hi lovely!! I'm sorry that you had a rough day, just remember that you're wonderful and amazing and we all love you so much!!! I'm sending you the absolute biggest hugs right now <33333
Anyway, some questions for you! Your ranking of the Midnights album (you decide if you want to include the 3 am tracks)? The 3 best books you've read recently? What's your favorite food? Your favorite thing to do during autumn? Sun, moon, or stars?
You are the sweetest angel ever thank you ♥️♥️
Ugghh ok legit like actually ranking midnights is SO HARD cause I love every single song and favour them basing on my mood?? Ok so: Maroon, Bejeweled, Lavender Haze, Mastermind, Snow On The Beach, Anti Hero, Midnight Rain, You're On Your Own Kid, The Great War, Karma, Labyrinth, Would've Could've Should've, Paris, Sweet Nothing, Dear Reader, Vigilante Shit, Question…?, Bigger Than The Whole Sky, High Infidelity, Glitch
Best books I've read recently … honestly ask me about the bad books I've read lmao I've actually read some Not Great ones this year but yay!! I reached my 2022 reading goal!!! I did enjoy quite a few books this year, and let me tell you I will not shut up about Pachinko.
Oh my gosh. Ugh. I just- THE THEMES!!! It's a story spanning generations because one naive woman refused to be bought! Who made her own decision and made her own fate! And the consequences of such! The only way I can describe that book is that it's like a piece of fruit I can keep peeling back, layer for layer, and new themes and motifs and symbolism I can discover and suck on and revel in the taste of. The tanglement of lust and love, of freedom, suffering (of women especially), familial love and duty, the struggle of identity and to belong to one specific place of being caught in the crossfire of history!! The show did not do it justice it's truly so fantastically written.
I also loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, ahhh it was so!!! I was not expecting to love it as much as I did, I'm not the biggest fan of letter format, but it was so!? Touching!? So sweet!? So wholesome!? I want to live inside that book I just adore it
I also read the Mistborn trilogy and. Oh man. Totally worth it. Listen the books are MASSIVE but it's ok!!! Because like the plot could be SO boring but it's not!? Like the entire second book is basically just waiting for the seige of Luthadel to happen, but you're there. You're invested. In the first book, you're there for every single meeting and step of the plan, for the journey. And it pays off!! The climaxes of each book are all freaking exhilarating! 200 pages of battle! I am on the edge of my seat! Not to mention like. One of the best magic systems I've ever seen written, every single character fleshed out and flawed (even the side characters), and twists and turns that just leave you going. what.
My favourite food is honestly anything Greek (hey Vasilia) but like I ADORE Mediterranean food it's my absolute jam
What I love to do in autumn is walk outside with the colourful leaves, the sound and smell is therapeutic <3
Stars!!! Moon ily girl but nothing will make me go insane quite like stars will

The French Riviera is known for its dreamy coastline, glitzy beach, and boardwalk. What about the Emerald Coast between #guernsey🇬🇬 and #saintmalo ? Now, Cannes (yes, the town known for its star-studded Cannes Film Festival) just added something magical to the shore—an underwater art museum. British artist Jason deCaires Taylor recently launched a new project in the Mediterranean Sea: a series of sculptures off the nearby island of Sainte-Marguerite. Made of pH-neutral cement, these six sculptures depict portraits of locals who live in Cannes, from children to senior citizens. #art #cooperation #benchmark #creativeisland (à La Vallette Bathing Pools) https://www.instagram.com/p/CoXhn6hrJKQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Take Me By The Hand
-
harry lewis x fem!reader
-
requested: Heyy, could you do the ‘take my hand’ concept that you did with JJ, but with Harry?? Love your writing sm! Xxx
please see my pinned post for masterlist and request info!
Tumblr media
One taking the others hand to help them up
You were 4 when you first met Harry properly. You’d been running around the playground, chasing after one of your friends when you’d taken a tumble and ended up in a small heap on the floor. Harry had come trotting over, sticking out a hand to help you up.
“Is your knee okay?”, he asked you.
“I don’t think so. It’s bleeding”, you told him sadly.
Harry kept hold of your hand, dragging you over to where the teachers on duty were standing. “She hurt her knee”, Harry said bluntly, poking one of the adults and then pointing to your knee.
Harry followed you and the teacher inside, sitting next to you as you had your knee cleaned and a plaster stuck on. The teacher left to fill in the accident book and write a note for you to take home. “I’m Harry”, the boy said as soon as she’d left.
“I’m Y/N”, you told him with a bright grin.
“Shall we be best friends?”, Harry asked with a toothy smile.
“Yes!”.
-
Holding hands whilst one walks on a small wall
You and Harry had stayed best friends from that day forward. There wasn’t anything that you didn’t do together. Harry would always be the first person you’d turn to whenever anything was wrong. He held your hand through every trip you took to the first aid room in your primary school and he shouldered his way through to sit next to you whenever you were in a classroom together.
Harry asked you out on your first date when you were both 15. You’d gone to his house after school, pestering him until he did his homework before you let him outside. He’d been pacing around the lawn in front of you, completely distracted from his kickaround with Josh, as you sat on the deck with Rosie.
“What’s wrong with him?”, she asked from beside you.
“I have no idea”, you told her. “You know what he’s like though”, you dismissed, all the while worrying about your best friend.
Rosie and Josh ran inside 20 minutes later to help set the table for dinner, leaving you and Harry alone in the back garden. “Are you gonna tell me what’s up with you?”, you asked him.
“Do you wanna go on a date?”, Harry blurted, leaving you stunned. The two of you were wide-eyed in surprise, both with words caught in your throat that you were desperately trying to say.
“Yeah”, you smiled.
A week later you met Harry by the beach. You’d seen each other through the week during school and spending the evenings after school together, but this evening felt different. This evening would be the one that potentially changed yours and Harry’s relationship forever.
You walked side by side down to the sea front, stopping and sitting on a small wall there. The two of you talked for hours, like you always did. Harry telling you about his family, about what happened in the few classes that you didn’t share together, telling you about his day and you returning the favour. You laughed well into the sunset, a soft silence falling over you as you watched the sun dip beneath the Guernsey horizon.
“It’s getting dark, and it’s cold. Let’s head back”, Harry suggested. As soon as you’d stood up, you stepped up onto the wall you’d just been sitting on, making you ever so slightly taller than Harry. With your arms held out for balance, you took a few tentative steps.
Harry reached out, grabbing your hand to keep you steady. You looked over to him, a shy smile on his face that you soon mirrored, paired with a rosy blush. Harry kept your hands entwined as you walked along the wall, matching his pace with yours so he didn’t rush you and cause you to stumble.
When you reached the end of the wall and jumped down, your hand didn’t leave Harry’s.
-
Holding hands whilst driving
Harry had never let whatever Youtube success he was gaining get in the way of the two of you. He always made time for you, always made you feel important. As soon as he’d learnt to drive and got a car, you and Harry would spend hours traversing the coastline, wind pouring into the window and billowing through your hair as you watched the cliffs and waves pass you by.
If you were in his car, Harry would insist on you being in the passenger seat, no matter who else was joining you. His hand would always rest on your thigh as he drove, only ever moving to change gear before quickly returning to its place.
Your fingers were wrapped loosely in his, making sure he was able to let go and reach for the gear stick whenever he needed to. The roads along the coastline were fairly straight, only ever bending slightly and no sharp turns in sight.
With the road empty bar from the two of you, Harry snuck a glance over to you. Your face was illuminated by the soft glow of the sun, hair windswept against the headrest and over your shoulders.
“I love you”, Harry said simply. It was no massive declaration, it didn’t have to be. You and Harry had been friends for 13 years, together for nearly 2. He’d loved you for as long as he could remember.
“I love you, too”.
-
Possessive hand holding
The first time you visited Harry in London was quite the nerve wracking experience. Aside from helping him move his stuff into his flat with Lux and Freezy, you’d barely seen him since he’d left the small island you both called home.
You waited by baggage claim, leg shaking with restless, nervous energy. It was just your luck that your suitcase was one of the last to make its way through and round the conveyor belt, the hall almost empty by the time you’d got your belongings.
Harry was waiting for you just outside arrivals, just as restless and nervous as you were. His eyes had been glued to the door from the minute you’d text him to let you know you’d reached baggage claim. Every person that walked out of the sliding doors that wasn’t you irritated him even further. It had only been a few weeks since he’d last seen you, and he was going mad.
At last, you trudged through the doors, looking a little worse for wear and incredibly pissed off. But you were there.
Harry wrapped his arms around you, holding you tight against his chest. “I’ve missed you so much”, he whispered into your hair. “The guys are already at my place, I hope that’s alright”, he told you. “They’re really excited to meet you”.
At Harry’s apartment building, he kept a tight hold on your hand as he led you upstairs. “Harry, it’s okay”, you assured him, squeezing his hand.
“Just nervous”, he told you.
Harry led you into the apartment, pausing for a second so you could drop your case by the door and kick your shoes off. His deathly tight grip on your hand never waned, like he was scared you were going to escape.
“Lads, Y/N”, Harry said awkwardly as he led you through the doorway. “Y/N, both of the Cals, Ethan, JJ, Simon, Josh, Tobi and Vik”, he introduced, pointing to each man in turn as he said their names.
“Nice to meet you”, you smiled happily.
You sat next to Harry on the sofa, squeezed up against his side. His hand was still gripping onto yours, squeezing tighter whenever any of the guys started to talk to you. “Harry”, you whispered, wiggling your fingers in his grip. “What’s wrong?”.
“Someone looks a little jealous if you ask me”, Freezy poked, wicked grin shooting across the living room.
“Oh, give over”, you scoffed, flicking Harry in the chest. “You buffoon. There’s nothing to worry about. Now ease up, you’re cutting off blood flow to my fingers”, you teased.
-
Rubbing their thumb over the other’s hand
“I don’t wanna leave”, you sighed, leaning further into Harry’s chest. “I miss you too much”, you whispered.
“I miss you, too”, he told you, wrapping both arms around your body and pulling you closer.
Harry watched over your shoulder as you opened your phone and pulled up flight times for a few weeks time, scrolling through them to find the cheapest option. Seeing Harry as often as possible was taking its toll on your finances and Harry knew you’d only accept so much help from him.
“What if this was the last time you flew home?”, Harry asked into your hair.
“What do you mean?”, you asked, thumb pausing over the screen.
“I spoke to Cal about it the other day, before you came”, Harry started. “How would you feel about moving to London?”, he asked.
You turned in his arms, facing Harry. “Are you being serious?”, you asked, a blossoming grin eager to bloom over your face.
“As I’ve ever been”, he whispered.
3 weeks later, you waited at the gate in Guernsey airport, surrounded by your family. “I’m so happy for you”, your mum whispered as she pulled you in for a tight hug. When she pulled back, you were both laughing through the tears that had begun to shed. “You and Harry deserve to be happy”, she told you.
They watched and waved as you walked towards the flight bridge, knowing that this would be the last time they’d see you for a while. You sat in your seat, watching as Guernsey got smaller and smaller below you. Although leaving home was never going to be an easy thing, you knew that you could build a home wherever Harry was.
You’d already shipped a lot of your stuff over to Harry, leaving you only to bring a large suitcase with you on your flight. You had no idea what to expect when you arrived, whether your stuff would be in Harry’s room or boxes strewn into whatever corner of the apartment they could fit into.
“Here”, Harry said as you sat in the car in the car park outside of the apartment building. He handed you a key on a keyring. “House keys”, he told you.
“Thank you”, you smiled
Harry pulled your case behind you as you walked up to the apartment. You stilled in front of the door, Harry pulling to a stop next to you. “Are you okay?”, Harry asked, voice filled with concern.
“Yeah”, you assured him quietly. “It’s just a lot, y’know”, you murmured.
“I know”. Harry’s thumb skimmed across the back of your hand in a soft, repetitive, soothing pattern. “I love you”, he reminded you, thumb never halting its soft reassurance against your skin.
“I know”, you smiled up at him. “But I love you more”.
-
Unconsciously searching for the other’s hand whilst asleep
If you were to ask Harry when he knew you’d be in his life forever, he’d have told you when the two of you were 5. Teasing from the other kids about you being best friends with each other was almost never-ending, but you and Harry always found a way to make light of it.
It wasn’t uncommon to see you and Harry playing with the dolls amongst the other little girls or racing around through the mud with the other boys. Everyone quickly learnt that where Harry went, you went and where you went, Harry went.
Harry knew you were going to be his bestest friend forever when he’d sat down on the grass to play and realised that there were no toys left. You’d come and sat down next to him and you’d played in the mud together, making daisy chains and mud pies and potions that you stirred with sticks, never caring about the dirt coating your pretty pinafore dress.
If you were to ask Harry when he knew that your relationship was meant to last, he would fumble and stumble over his words, not really knowing what to say. It was something that brought his friends great joy, asking what he saw in the future for the two of you. After all, you had been together since you were 15.
The night Harry realised you were his one great love was rather anti-climatic. There was no fireworks or mind-blowing kiss or Earth shattering sex. In fact, you were curled up asleep next to Harry, hair piled on top of your head and the hem of one of his Sidemen Clothing shirts riding up on your thigh.
He’d shut his computer down and gotten ready for bed, sliding in next to you as quietly as possible. Whilst he was lounging in bed next to you, attention focused on the screen of his phone, you’d started shifting beside him. Harry laid stock still, not wanting to wake you up with any movements.
Instead, you reached a hand across the bed, seemingly searching for something. When you couldn’t find whatever it was you were looking for, a frown settled itself onto your face. Harry was sure you were dreaming, but couldn’t resist closing the gap between your fingers and his.
The minute Harry hooked his fingers around yours, the frown on your face disappeared, replaced by a soft, blissful smile. Harry had known you long enough and knew you well enough to know that you were still fast asleep, the gentle sighs falling from your mouth being a dead giveaway.
So, if you asked Harry when he knew that your love was meant to last, he’d tell anyone that listened that it was the moment he realised you loved him even in your dreams.

Outnumbered - Harry Lewis
Requested: No - I’m just trying to improve my fluff skills, so apologies if this is not the best!
Tumblr media
Lockdown had been hard on your relationship with Harry, with his family in Guernsey he had opted to go and spend lockdown with them. Which left you in London, isolating on your own; as you didn’t want to leave where you felt most comfortable, especially with the increased anxiety of the pandemic. That left you with two options, end the relationship and hope that you were both ready to rekindle when the restrictions were lifted, or to try and attempt a long-distance relationship — with your only port of contact being FaceTime calls and texts. You had opted for the latter.
It had been fine for the first week or two. You had developed the mindset that he was just visiting family. The FaceTime calls were fun, you played untold quizzes and watched movies together; despite Harry having the attention span of a goldfish, it was rather enjoyable. You would also go on your permitted one walk a day together, you reminded him of the rustle and bustle of London, as you flipped the camera and showed him the insane traffic and the Thames when you crossed the Millenium bridge. He was also able to show you the scenic sights of Guernsey, the cliffs and beaches.
By the time that it had rolled around to a month, your faith in returning to normal any time soon was vastly diminishing. Your body ached for his touch. Even if it was something as small as holding your hand, or having a cuddle on the sofa. You really missed him. The FaceTime calls were nice, but they were few and far between now, as you didn’t really have anything to talk about. You lived alone, while he was living the typical family life. There’s only so many times that he could tell you about petty arguments he had with Josh, or, how he had pranked Rosie.
You knew that it was selfish, but you just needed a break. If he couldn’t be here with you and show you some sort of affection, things weren’t going to work. No matter how much you wanted them to.
As you dialled his phone number, you took a deep breath. You had no idea how he would react. Things were hard for everyone, yet here you were taking the easy way out.
“Y/N, hey!” Harry said, you could hear his smile from the other side of the phone. Which only made things that much harder.
“Hey.” You murmured weakly. The nervous knots in your stomach only intensified the longer you remained in silence.
“I need to get something off my chest, I’ve been thinking about it for a while now.” You continued, as you twirled a strand of hair nervously between your thumb and forefinger.
“Go ahead.” He promoted, his voice uneasy. Even with him being hundreds of miles away from you, he could still detect that something wasn’t right.
“This isn’t working… I can’t keep pretending that it is. Before this happened we spent almost every day together, but I haven’t been able to so much as touch you for over a month.” You explained, as you let out an exasperated sigh.
“No!” He protested, as his voice broke. “This can’t have all been for nothing. We promised each other that we’d have each other’s backs. That we’d be fine. You can’t just give up now.”
“What choice do we have? It could be months before we can see each other again.” You admitted, the sense of his defeat could be felt through the phone. As much as Harry didn’t want to admit it verbally, he knew that you were right. Who knew when the next time you could see each other would be?
“I love you.” He whispered weakly, before he hung up the phone.
It had been a few days since you had called things off with Harry. You had busied yourself with housework and trying to learn new skills. Including downloading duolingo, where you had been learning Spanish.
You were in the middle of a Spanish lesson, when a knock at the door jilted your attention from your phone to the door. You weren’t expecting anyone, especially considering you were supposed to be self-isolating. Cautiously, you went and answered the door.
Harry stood on the other side, his eyes red and blotchy. Without a second thought, you went in for the hug. A familiar warmth overtaking your body, as you nuzzled your face into his shoulder. He rested his chin on your head, as he wrapped his arms around you.
“What’re you doing here?” You asked, almost in disbelief.
“I made you a promise at the beginning of our relationship. That no matter how far apart we are, that I will always come back to you. I figured it was time to fulfil that promise.” He explained, as he placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
You took him by the hand and led him into the flat. The house, instantly feeling more like home now that he was back. You cuddled up on the sofa, resting your head on his chest as you selected a movie to watch. You settled on Interstellar, and ordered a pizza.
You were back in domestic bliss, a lot happier. You were finally in your favourite place — with him.
“This is so much better than doing this on FaceTime.” He commented. A broad smile plastered on his face.
“Why’s that?” You questioned, as you looked up at him.
“Because I can do this.” He said, as he cupped your face and pulled you closer to him. He planted a soft kiss on your lips, his breath tasted like pizza.
“Yeah, you’re right this is so much better.” You agreed, as you pulled him in for another kiss.

ALRIGHT some book recs coming up, straight from my shelves to yours <3
first of all, i've never read anything bad by holly bourne or sophie kinsella ever. they're mostly quick and fun reads, though holly bourne's books usually center around more serious issues, too.
cemetery boys by aiden thomas. lgbt+ urban fantasy set around el día de muertos, need i say more?
howl's moving castle by diana wynne jones. i've been told this is somewhat different from the ghibli movie, but i didn't grow up with it and so i don't actually know. i went into this without knowing anything but the main characters' names and absolutely loved it.
the guernsey literary and potato peel pie society by mary ann shaffer and annie barrows. one of my all time faves, an epistolary novel set after ww2 in which a bunch of people really love books and it's also sad and beautiful. the movie's great, too!
the school for good and evil by soman chainani. this is a series that they're making into a netflix show next year and kit young will be in it and it's gonna be great. set in a fairy tale universe, two young girls are sent to the titulary school to be main fairy tale characters, essentially. this has some of the most buckwild plot twists i've ever read, and i'm not even joking.
beach read by emily henry. a romance novel between two writers who make a bet to write their next novel in the other one's preferred genre. i'm going to put an 18+ warning on that one though since i don't actually know how old you are and this does get spicy!
wicked by gregory maguire. yes there's a musical. (i had to) this is a retelling of the wonderful wizard of oz, but make it darker and add a dash of political commentary.
invisible women by caroline criado pérez. if you wanna get upset about the patriarchal society we all live in, this is the book for you.
ninth house by leigh bardugo. i know you're familiar with the grishaverse, but i also really liked her other fantasy novel! it's considerably darker, but it has those gritty urban fantasy dark academia vibes that i think are very seasonal.
written in the stars by alexandria bellefleur. i'm currently reading this and i'm all kinds of in love with it. it's got lesbian fake dating, the characters are named after pride and prejudice characters, and there are lots of astrology references. it's glorious.
i also said i wouldn't start reading the marvel comics, but they literally had a falcon and the winter soldier collection at my library sooo if you wanna see alpine and read some very out of context comic excerpts i can highly recommend. i'm very confused and entertained 😂 hope this helps x
YOU ANGEL THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!! i'm adding all of these to my list rn
also i just ordered ninth house, how did you like it? i read kinda mixed reviews so i really dont know what to expect?

Idk if you still want recs but my go to fluff movies are Disney channel original movies, they're (imo) terrible in the best way. My favorites are probs Teen Beach Movie and Geek Charming (cw for a character grieving her mom in that one). Totally get it if that's not up your alley ofc. ALSO if you haven't read it I highly highly recommend reading the Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society or if you like audiobooks even better is listening. I did think the movie was p good though! (1/2)
(2/2) HOWEVER if you didn't already watch Guernsey, warning for that one being extremely sad. It has a happy ending and is really hopeful, but it hits hard.
Yeah I ended up not watching Guernsey because I was warned that it got pretty sad in places and I am looking for the lightest of the light right now. I wound up watching Music and Lyrics, then The Hating Game, then I fell asleep watching Hitch. Not sure what I'm watch tonight because my brother's on his way here from the airport on a train so idk, we might end up watching an old wrestling PPV or something.

Double Trouble
Tumblr media
Bastien’s foster parents come to meet the twins, and he receives a gift that brings back painful memories...
Word count 2774
A/N You may need a tissue at hand for this one, Bastien is reduced to tears himself. There are a few Greek words here, but I’ve tried to make them obvious or translated immediately afterwards. My favourite was the word for grandmother, which is pronounced ‘ya ya’. You may notice I’ve chickened out from writing a chapter devoted to their wedding - at least for now...
5 Parents, old and new...
‘They’re here – the guards at the gate just rang through’ Bastien announced. Sophia cast an eye around the apartment to check all was spick and span.
‘Does it look right?’ she queried. ‘If it’s too tidy it will look like we’re not taking enough time with the twins, but if it’s untidy it looks like we can’t cope.’ Bastien walked over to her and kissed her forehead.
‘Don’t worry, theà mou’ he soothed ‘Althea will understand. She’s fostered plenty of babies as well as older children. She knows a little disorder isn’t a bad sign’
‘Did you ever get drafted in to looking after any younger ones?’ she asked.
‘One or two, but she never left me alone with them. Being totally responsible for small babies is a task for an adult.’ He went to the door just as a wail started up on the baby monitor. Sophia grimaced.
‘They certainly have a good sense of timing’ she said ‘I’ll go and see who it is and what they need.’
‘I’ll go down and greet our visitors. Don’t be worried about feeding them, they wouldn’t bat an eyelid, but if you want to stay private, stay in the nursery and I’ll check with you.’ He kissed her again and went to greet his foster parents, there to see the twins for the first time.
They lived only a few hours drive away in Greece but said they’d wait until the couple had settled into parenthood. Sophia’s parents had booked their flight from the Channel Islands and would be there the next month. If it hadn’t been for various video calls, her mother might well have demanded that she and Bob move lock stock and barrel to Cordonia, but Sophia had told them they weren’t sure they would be staying in the tiny European country for good. She had received a job offer from Edinburgh and had deferred it until the twins were older, and there was a lot of support at the Palace. They didn’t have to worry about cooking, laundry or cleaning, and Hana had volunteered to help too. She had experience with Savannah’s children, and would most likely go on to help the Queen when she gave birth to the heir.
She went into the nursery to discover that Theo needed a nappy change, and she was in time to get that done before his wailing woke his sister, who was a determined and deep sleeper. Changing him was an easy task compared to his sisters indignation at being messed around.
As she worked, she remembered that the last time she’d seen her own parents was at their wedding. It was a small affair, and her mind went further back to when they’d discussed getting married, some time after Bastien had proposed. They were taking a break at the villa in Greece that Costa and Althea owned, this time entirely on their own. They lay out in the sun after a swim in the clear blue sea.
‘Mum asked me when we’re getting married.’ Sophia said, reaching for a cool drink.
‘Then we should probably set a date’ Bastien replied. ‘That is, if you think we should do it’
‘It’s odd’ she said ‘I like the idea, but we’ve made our commitment to each other already. I don’t need a ceremony to know we intend to be together for the rest of our lives’
‘But perhaps other people have to acknowledge it’ Bastien pointed out ‘Plus it’s better legally, if anything should happen to one of us’
‘I could never understand my friends who started planning their weddings when they were teens’ she had said. ‘My best friend had a scrapbook and she’d collect pictures of dresses, think about venues and colour schemes and so on. I don’t think she cared who she married, and she expected it to happen before she was twenty’
‘How did that turn out?’
‘She did actually find a really nice guy to marry, but she was the original Bridezilla. He got fed up with her tantrums and stood her up at the altar – or in her case, at the beach. In Jamaica. He’d never even got on the plane to go there. Her family and friends had a wonderful holiday, but she spent the whole time crying and cursing him until one of the waiters caught her eye’ Bastien sucked his breath in between his teeth.
‘Did that put you off, theà mou?’
‘Just a little. But my wedding day wasn’t the apex of my expectations. I wanted to find someone to share my life with – and I have’
‘So what do you think we should do? What do you want?’
‘I don’t want a big wedding. A registry office would do – and a minimum of guests. In fact, just you, me and a witness would be enough. But my mother would never forgive me’
‘May I make a suggestion, then?’
‘’Of course, Bas. Fire away’
‘Why don’t we get married in Guernsey? That would please Edith, and it would keep the guest list down. We could always have a reception back here after a short honeymoon’
‘That might work. Wouldn’t Costa and Althea want to come to the wedding though?’
‘Hmmm. They’d understand if I told them we’d want to keep it small’
‘We, Bas? Are you happy with that?’
‘I think the same as you. It’s a formality – a legal piece of paper. It doesn’t compare to what we already have together. I’m happy to do whatever you want’
‘Well aren’t we a pair’ she had laughed ‘The reluctant bride and groom’
‘But enthusiastic lovers’ he joked, and swooped down on her, kissing her and picking her up to carry her inside.
So it was that they travelled to the tiny island where they had a small ceremony at the registry office with a reception at a four star hotel, arranged by her father. Some of his work colleagues attended as many of them had been impromptu Uncles when she was growing up, and a few of her school friends went too. Drake went as Bastien’s best man and representative of the Crown, being the third party in King Brad’s Cordonian marriage. It had been decided that he and Lucy would not attend, to keep the wedding low key. They had a short honeymoon on one of the smaller islands, and on their return King Brad had insisted on a lavish reception party in the Palace Ballroom. He had flown the happy couple back for the occasion in the Royal jet along with Bob and Edith.
After that, they had briefly discussed having children and decided to try as soon as they could, due to their age. Bastien had visited a sperm bank when he had a vasectomy on joining the Guard, and they were advised to try using that whilst waiting for his medical procedure to heal and his count to go up. Despite being told it would most likely take a few tries, the very first treatment worked, and Sophia had to defer taking up a job offer at Edinburgh University.
As she buttoned up Theo’s romper suit she heard the apartment door close and there was the babble of conversation in the main room.
‘You don’t look hungry, little man’ she cooed to the baby ‘Come and meet your pappous and giagià’ She picked him up, peeking into Beatrice’s cot, but she slept soundly. She resolved to come back for her, to keep the twins in synch with their naps. She had barely entered the lounge before Althea had plucked Theo from her arms with cries of delight.
‘Oh, mikros’ little one she gushed ‘I giagiá sou eínai edó’ your grandmother is here ‘Aren’t you such a delicious creature, I could eat you all up’ She turned to her husband ‘See how he looks like his father’ Costa nodded gravely, pursing his lips.
‘He does’ he said shortly, leaning over to appraise the baby. He looked up at Sophia.
‘And here is his mitera’ he smiled, and walked over to kiss her cheek. Althea only had eyes for Theo, rocking him and speaking in rapid Greek. Theo was mesmerised and gazed at her, entranced. ‘You look well, Sophia’ he said ‘I hope our Antras is looking after you and his mikra’
‘He’s very attentive. It’s good to see you, Costa. I hope the journey was okay’
‘It was very quiet – when Althea fell asleep’ he said, dropping his voice to a stage whisper.
‘You think I don’t hear you, old man?’ Althea cried ‘You’re lucky I’m holding our foster grandson. And where is his sister?’
‘I’ll get her’ Sophia said.
‘Let me come with you.’ Costa offered, and she led the way.
‘I’m sorry you can’t stay with us’ Sophia said as they went. ‘As you see, our spare room is occupied.’
‘Don’t worry my dear’ Costa boomed in his deep voice. ‘I know better than anyone how tiring Althea is to have around. We won’t stay long, we have friends to visit in the Capitol.’ As they entered the nursery Beatrice was stirring. Costa made a cooing noise as soon as he saw her.
‘Oh mikros – little princess.’ he clucked ‘Here, come to Pappous.’ and leaned over the cot, tenderly picking her up. Sophia held her breath, not knowing how she would react. She made little squeaking noises as she woke, her eyes opening to an unfamiliar face. She squinted and opened her mouth to protest but the sound of his voice lulled her as he crooned to her. He turned to Sophia.
‘They are both so dark.’ he said, referring to the shock of black hair that both children sported. ‘Your lovely blonde hair has not come through.’
‘It’s only natural.’ she smiled ‘We knew they would probably take after Bastien.’ They returned to the lounge, where Althea declared she would have to split in two in order to make the most of the babies. Costa stood facing her, and they rocked and sang to them together, doing a little dance. Bastien looked over at Sophia, whose face had lit up with joy to see the charming interaction. Theo gazed at his entertainers with fascination while Beatrice made odd little expressions and noises, waving her little starfish fingers randomly.
‘This one is musical, see?’ Althea said ‘She has a sense of rhythm. She will be a great singer or a concert pianist, just you see.’ Costa laughed.
‘Theodore is quiet and stoic like his father. Perhaps he too will be Captain of the Guard’
‘It’s a dangerous job, Pateràs. I wouldn’t wish it on him.’ Bastien commented. At that moment Beatrice decided she’d had enough of being joggled about and started to grizzle.
‘Your little princess needs her materà.’ Costa said, handing her over carefully. She made a face as if she was searching for a nipple.
‘Do you mind…?’ Sophia asked.
‘Go right ahead, I may never have fed one myself, but I would have if I could.’ Althea replied, so Sophia settled down to nurse. Theo remained in Althea’s arms, sucking his fingers and gazing back at her. ‘You need your strength, Sophia, so I brought some food for you.’ Althea sat close to her. ‘I know the palace kitchens cook for you, but I don’t think they make proper Greek food. It’s like medicine – my pastitsio will cure anything, and my moussaka would satisfy a giant.’ She nodded toward Bastien’s broad frame ‘Even our àntras there. How do you think he grew to be such a mountain of a man?’ Bastien rolled his eyes.
‘I think we might have to get a freezer of our own to store all the food Althea brought for us.’ he said drily. She turned toward him.
‘Look in the cooler bag – there’s Greek salad and dolmades and olives, and bread I baked this morning.’ Bastien shook his head, smiling.
‘You shouldn’t have, Althea’ he laughed ‘But it’s very welcome’
Before too long the dining table was set with a Greek feast, and Costa sat with Beatrice resting on his chest, making little circles on her back to bring up any wind, and Bastien had given him a napkin in case of accidents. Sophia sat nursing Theo, and Althea hovered over her with a plate full of finger food.
‘Eat, eat’ Althea urged her ‘The babies will grow fast. Start getting bigger clothes for them, you will see’ Soon it was Bastien holding Beatrice to wind her while Sophia sat at the table to eat, and Althea fussed with plates and food as if she was the host, not her foster son and partner.
At last they had done justice to the food, and Costa was the one to wash the plates while Althea played with Theo.
‘Oh, I almost forgot.’ she said suddenly, addressing Bastien. ‘I brought you something.’
‘Althea…’ he protested, but she had already handed the baby to Sophia and was rummaging in a bag. She brought out a small package and handed it over. Bastien took it curiously, and carefully unwrapped it. It was a small piece of fabric – a flowered pattern with a satin edge. He stared at it for a moment, and Sophia was shocked to see his eyes watering, hand resting on his cheek in shock.
‘Materà.’ he said, choking with emotion, struggling to keep his composure ‘I didn’t know you still had this.’ Althea went to him and put her hand on his arm. He grabbed it and kissed her fingers, tears running down his cheeks.
‘We found it when we cleared out some old boxes. I knew you’d want it.’ Her usual brusque tone was soft and tender.
‘I thought – I thought it was lost’ Bastien choked. Sophia was baffled, and she suddenly found Costa at her elbow, patting her arm. She put her hand on his, looking up in query. He spoke quietly as Bastien covered his face, shoulders shaking with silent sobs.
‘It’s from a dress that his mother wore.’ he said in a low tone. ‘He kept it under his pillow until it got lost – we’re not sure exactly when. It’s the only thing that belonged to her that he had.’ Sophia already knew that Bastien had been fostered when his mother had become a drug addict and died tragically when he was a teenager.
Bastien got to his feet and shakily left the room. Costa went on to tell her that Althea had made the keepsake for him and quietly left it in his room when he was a surly and unruly teenager. They had noticed an improvement in his behaviour soon after, even though he had never acknowledged her kind action.
‘Go, he needs you.’ Althea said softly ‘The twins will be fine with us.’ Sophia handed Beatrice to her and got to her feet to follow him to the bedroom, where he sat holding the piece of fabric, tears still silently flowing down his cheeks. She sat next to him and handed him a tissue. He slowly calmed and mopped his eyes, taking a shaky breath.
‘I hated her when I was younger.’ he said hoarsely ‘But later on I realised it was a sickness that changed her, bad people who made her make the wrong choices. She never meant to hurt me.’ He turned the fabric over in his hands. ‘I wish every day she’d been stronger, been around to meet you. Now I feel as if she’s here.’ She took his hand and squeezed it.
‘She’d have been proud of you, I’m sure. I’m only just starting to understand what it’s like being a mother. I know if anyone tried to hurt our babies, I’d go out of my mind.’ He nodded.
‘Not everyone can cope with being a parent, even with the best intentions.’
‘You never had any doubt about whether you’d be a good father?’ she asked gently.
‘Of course I did, but I had Costa and Jackson to emulate’ He blew his nose. ‘And you had good examples, so I never had any doubt about you.’
‘Althea should have been more sensitive.’ Bastien smiled weakly, his eyes red but dry.
‘It’s okay Sophia, it needed to be done. They’re here to look after the twins while I process it’ He took her hand and squeezed it ‘and while you support me. It was a good time to do it’ He got up and held out his hand. ‘Speaking of which, we should get back before they need a nappy change’
‘Something tells me that wouldn’t phase either of them’ she smiled, and rose to embrace him and kiss his cheek.
