on the one hand i know the lans probably tried to keep lan sizhui sequestered away from the rest of the world for several years bc of wen yuan reasons on the other hand I think it would be very funny if lan wangji tried to teach him to hate jiang cheng, specifically, for petty reasons, and wee lan sizhui just. refused

wei wuxian should thank his lucky stars that lan wangji figured out how to withhold his flustered-ness if it meant making wei wuxian flustered bc otherwise this would be as far as they got

this guy is so funny. Jin Ling clearly has been fine all these years. "Jiang Cheng doesn't know how to raise kids", pls. I know you don't want to let go of a specific idea of your shidi but this is just so. Do you think Mr. Bully the kid was saving Jin Ling's ass all those years???? I'm.

One thing I love about Lan Wangji is that how the way he’s viewed by others changes with the progression of his arc.
When we meet him in the Cloud Recesses, he’s already well known in the cultivation world. He’s known for being one of the Twin Jades of Lan – for being a model disciple, for being perfectly skilled in everything you’d expect a young master to be proficient in, for perfectly encapsulating all the Lan Sect’s principles, including their immovable adherence to the rules. And that’s immensely impressive. But the thing is, he’s not really defined by himself – it’s not his own identity he’s carving out, but the identity of a perfect disciple of a clan. That’s even echoed in his title as one of the Lan’s Twin Jades. He’s known, first and foremost, for being a son of the Lan Clan’s Sect Leader.
But as he starts to develop, as he starts to grow, what he’s known for changes, and people begin to know him for who, not what, he is. He’s not famous, first and foremost, for being Lan Wangji, one of the Twin Jades – but for being Hanguang-Jun, the ‘light bearer’, the person who goes where the chaos is, and for a title and reputation he’s carved out of his own merits. Instead of being known for perfectly embodying rules and principles, he becomes known for being righteous*, fair, and for caring about the common people; for prioritising their safety over his own reputation in a way that no other important member of a clan did. And I think it’s important to note that although doing this doesn’t break any rules, it does stand in contrast to the actions of most cultivators (and is even look down upon by some people, like Jiang Cheng, though I’m not sure how much of that is due to their personal history). Instead of being famous for embodying the values of the cultivation world, he becomes known for what he does that sets him apart from it.
People begin to define him by his actions and by everything he does that shows who he is as a person; not as somebody defined by embodying the status and clan he was born into. His reputation given to him as a Twin Jade has been carved into a reputation he’s made for himself, as himself.
And I think that’s beautiful.

Moonshot: A Cheng'e Story

Part 4 of 5

Jiang Cheng delivers exposition.
In a past life, he stole immortality from Hou Yi!Wei Wuxian who had saved the world. This immortality was a trap though as it destroyed his mortal body. In order to continue existing he is completely dependent on the medicines made by the Jade Hares and so can never leave the moon. With Jiang Cheng as a patient, the Hares were able to develop the Elixir of Life which would fortify the body enough to take in the core without negative consequences, but it took too long. Hou Yi!Wei Wuxian had already died. Jiang Cheng has been holding onto hope that Wei Wuxian would come back and so kept himself (and the core) alive all this time.
The Lans run through the unraveling palace. Lan Wangji worries for Wei Wuxian. Lan Xichen is clutching a huge jar of wine, what is implied to be the wine Wei Wuxian was drinking as well as the Elixir of Life. He is crying…it seems Jiang Cheng would truly die without the core.
Wei Wuxian is not on board with Jiang Cheng’s plan…leaving him with an eternity alive without Jiang Cheng. In the chaos of the illusions ripping apart, reverting everyone to their normal state, he tells Jiang Cheng he loves him and just wants another chance together.

I was debating whether Jiang Cheng should go as far as admit he walked into Jin Guangshan's trap on purpose, but given how he behaves in canon I didn't think he should.
If you were wondering exactly what was premeditated, Jiang Cheng has long told the Hares that he needed to stick around to give the core with the safe way of receiving it to Wei Wuxian, but also couldn't actively seek him out nor did he tell the Hares to do so. They did that of their own initiative parent trap style, seeing how Jiang Cheng couldn't leave and all the waiting was deteriorating his mental health.
Now for a wholesome brother illustration as a palate cleanser.

The Lans here are not gentry like in MDZS but immortal pharmacists, so I wanted their clothes to be simpler as well, closer to monk-like than their canon counterparts. The bunny ears are a nod to stories like Journey to the West, where transformations often have a flaw that reveals the true nature of the supernatural.

al haithams thoughts (probably)
he can do anything half decently. he’s just like ‘it’s probably possible’ and then attempts it. and if he fails then he keeps attempting it
there’s like , very little point in lying to kids. there’s censoring for age appropriateness sure but he’s not going to be like ‘babies come from [insert children’s story]’. if they ask an honest question he will give an honest but age appropriate answer
the language of academia is exclusionary and it’s functionality lies in its exclusivity. he really only uses it when he has to perform in academia but otherwise will code switch to not talk like that
he tries really hard to not be pretentious. he doesn’t really want to be but he’s aware he can be a little bit that way sometimes. it comes with the job and also the confidence
kaveh once bit into an orange whole (w/o peeling it) just to see al haithams reaction. his instinct was to shove him off the port osmos docks and walk away. heathens get rights except when it’s kaveh
he has very specific taste in design. practical. functional. lots of storage. lots of natural light. light wood walls and a dark wood desk. he believes in setting up a good, clean space — even if he’s never in his office
he knows his dick is big. he doesn’t like, always say so bc it can sound weird. but he’s comfortably aware of his dick size
literally most things could be a letter instead of a meeting. he will just not go to meetings he considers a waste of time and drop off a notice to just send him the notes, he’ll follow up if he has questions
the consequences of your own actions is Real and if you don’t want consequences then you have to deal with the thing bothering you. this is to say al haitham is pretty direct. it’s what makes him competent, efficient and solution oriented
his CV is excellent. he volunteers with children in his free time and sets up educational programs through the university. his research is well written and specifically targeted. his theoretical work is unmatched in eloquence and genius. it’s a bit terrifying
he’s good with kids! not really surprisingly. he’s just honest with them and can carry them on his shoulders and is also unafraid to change babies diapers

Lan Wangji Goes To Lotus Pier AU: Part 4: Deranged Bedfellows
(Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.5)
#poorly drawn mdzs#mdzs#mdzs au#lan wangji#nie huaisang#Yungmeng Jiang training arc AU#This is the *first* part of what was supposed to be a much longer comic (LWJ's morning routine in full).#I'll finish the remaining part as a reblog to this post! I just think this is the funnier chunk.#Lan Wangji absolutely is the kind of person who has a perfect internal alarm clock for when it is time to get up.#He already has a dedicated sleep schedule. He is accurate within 10 seconds of 5am every day.#I think the Jiang disciples are most likely used to waking up around 6:00-7:00am#But the allure of having a guaranteed time keeper getting you up in the morning is worth the earlier hour.#I imagine they started outside lwj's door and slowly moved closer as the weeks went on.#Now LWJ has to cope with being way too warm in the night from all the extra body heat.#LWJ is not a fan of this but they scamper off immediately after he wakes up and they at least show initiative to follow routine.#NHS joins in only because he is a chronically heavy sleeper and needs this level of intervention to get up early.#His boldness would be a death sentence in the cloud recesses but here? Whole new game.#Yungmeng Jiang isn't a lawless land. It's just a land with different laws.#And one of those laws is to forcefully domesticate the catboy coded Lan boy through any means necessary.#Completely different tangent: I drew the thumbnail for this before I did comic 134. I then realized they had the same visual gag.#So I had to space this one out so it didn't seem like I repeated the waking up joke. That's my secret and all of you have to keep it.#And in my land the law is that snitches get itches (telepathically transfers hives onto your body)

all the other juniors in lan sizhui's generation are secretly very glad wei wuxian took 13 years to show up again bc if he had come back sooner, lan sizhui would've OWNED on the gusu lan sect playground. insult the guy once when you're eleven and suddenly you're sitting in a parent teacher conference next to one or more of the following: the younger brother of the sect leader, potentially the sect leader himself, the ghost general wen ning, the goddamn yiling patriarch,

I honestly feel like a huge majority of wangxian stans, especially the ones that are jc antis, don't actually like wwx all that much either. I've never gone out of my way to read a wangxian or anti jc fic, but sometimes they just get shoved in my face when I'm looking for other stuff to read (the time travel tag is a cesspool), and just by the synopses of those fics on ao3 (and by the wangxian/anti jc posts that i unwillingly see on tumblr) you can tell that their wwx...isn't actually wwx. It's a wwx who has never had any agency in his life, has never hurt anyone ever (on purpose or accidentally), and is always the victim in any and every scenario. Like I'm sorry, but the canon wei wuxian has one of the highest kill counts in the entire novel, and most of those kills happened within a few hours. Canon wwx was also, like, the Torture King, he saw torture as an art form, and tried to be as creative with it as possible 🤣🤣🤣. There are soo many other questionable things that wwx did, and wangxian fics seem to NEVER mention them, and instead they make everything someone elses (usually jc's) fault. It's like wangxian fics are written by lan wangji; someone who has probably never even fully accepted/acknowledged that wwx is lowkey a murderer, and instead feels like, in order for them to like wwx, he has to be pure (i could write a mini essay about this). And like...that's soo boring. Wangxian/Lan Wangji and wangxian shippers make Wei Wuxian boring. The only fics I've ever seen an authentic Wei Wuxian in is Chengxian, to be completely honest, and those fics are always soo compelling and interesting, because they don't shy away from the darker parts of Wei Wuxian's character (a huge part of his appeal), and aren't written from a 'woke' or righteous pov like soo many wangxian fics seem to be written from. And tbh, I'd take 'murder husbands' chengxian over whatever wangxian has going on any day🤷🏾‍♀️
nonny your brain…. you’re so right. and they project so much, constantly saying ‘oh jc stans don’t like the REAL jc’ but they’re the ones who don’t like the real wwx. please feel free to write that mini essay i’d actually read it lol. i find the characterization of wwx to be pretty accurate in the chengxian fics i’ve read as well, and though i haven’t read any wangxian fics i’ll trust you when you say they purify wwx considering they do the same in the wwx posts i’ve seen.
