WOOBER ROCK CHAPTER 7
Boober stirred when he heard the sound of the breakfast bell. Once again he found himself wrapped in Wembley's embrace and his memories from the night before came flooding back. His face felt hot and he glanced to the fraggle next to him. Wembley was sleeping, surprisingly, the sound of the breakfast bell and the smell of syrup flooding the tunnels of the rock would usually be able to wake wembley from a coma. Boober shivered and pulled the blanket tighter around himself. Wembley hummed as his eyes fluttered open to look at boober through his eyelashes. "Its cold", He mumbled and pulled Boober closer. Boober held his breath and felt his tail start to thump against the bed. Wembley was practically asleep again but boober still whispered, "Wembley...I have extra blankets, let me get them" "mmmokay", was the blondes groggy response. But as soon as Boober lifted the blanket to grab them, wembley groaned and held him in place. Boober smiled and pried Wembleys paws from his waist, "Give me a minute wems"
Boober was back with the promised extra blankets quickly and tossed a couple over the bed before crawling back in next to a more awake Wembley. "Better?", Boober purred. Wembley hummed and shimmied down farther into the bed, embracing the warmth the new blankets offered, "Much better, thank you Boober" Boober smiled and closed his eyes again, thinking over everything Wembley had said to him the night prior and feeling his heart pick up.
"The breakfast bell rang",Boober turned to see wembley smiling at him the way he did last night, "I know, I can smell all the food", Wembley chuckled. Boober raised an eyebrow," dont you wanna rush to get some?". Wembley closed his eyes and spoke,"In a minute, I wanna stay here a little longer". The purring emanating from Boobers throat got louder and the tip of his tail started to glow under the covers. "o-oh", He gulped. Wembleys eyes shot open, afraid he had made the blue fraggle uncomfortable, "i-is that okay?" Boober couldnt help the nervous laugh as he said,"yes! of course!" Wembley relaxed but his eyes were still focused on Boober,"please tell me if I do something you don't like...its not always easy for me to tell when I've messed up". Boober found wembley's paw under the blankets and held it in his own,"I will. I promise you're doing perfect wems". Wembley tail wagged. "Boober I think-", Wembley was interrupted by the curtain of Boober's den being pulled open,"Wembley! Boober! Didn't you hear the- oh my god", Gobo marched over the bed and both fraggles pulled away from eachother. "What on earth is going on here", Gobo demanded. "n-nothing Gobo! I swear!",Wembley sputtered. Gobo snapped his eyes to Boober,"Boober I swear to God " Boobers breath caught in his throat as he made himself as small as possible. "Gobo please don't yell at him he didnt do anything!", Wembley pleaded and put his arm in front of the fraggle in bed with him. Gobo furrowed his eyebrows,"Wembley, you know he isn't a good influence. You already worry so much, he isn't going to help that! You do not need to bed all cuddled up next to him like this" Gobo growled and grabbed his brother's wrist. "Lets go.", Wembley was not anywhere near as strong as Gobo, he couldnt even try to fight as he was pulled away from the blue fraggle.
"Care to explain yourself?",Gobo snarled once they were back to their own den. "I dont have to, youre not my father", Wembley huffed and tried to look as intimidating as he could. Gobo rubbed his temple," Wembley I'm only trying to look out for you bud, I'm your brother, and I love Boober as much as I love our other friends but I'm telling you he is not the right guy for you to be with". Wembley couldnt speak. And if he could, he wouldn't know what to say. Part of him wanted to scream, yell, kick, bite, do anything that would show his brother how he felt. What was best right now? Clearly not telling the truth, not telling him he was in love with his best friend, not telling him they shared secrets with eachother and cuddled in bed and complimented eachother. Lie? Try to play off everything as platonic? Wembley wembled back and forth and felt his brain bouncing between every single thought that popped into his head until he felt dizzy and blurted out,"You don't know what you're talking about" Gobo rolled his eyes," Oh yeah sure, I dont know what IM talking about. Right. " Wembley felt trapped. It was too soon for Gobo to step into his and Boober's relationship. They weren't even together for crying out loud! Wembley thought...,"We aren't even together" Gobo put his hands on his hips," Then what do you call that? sharing a bed? missing breakfast? huh?" Wembley said his next words slow,"It was cold. We didn't know we were close cus we were s-sleeping. We slept through the bell. I was just waking up when you came in. We don't like eachother like that. Boober is just my friend"
Boober was curled up in the corner of his bed farthest from the door. His mind raced as he bit his lip and twisted his tail in his paws. What would he say if Gobo demanded answers. Clearly Gobo wasn't too fond of the idea of him and Wembley being together. What would they do? No more sleepovers? no more perfect quiet moments? no more morning cuddles or laundry watching hangouts or cooking their favorite foods for just the two of them? Boober let out a groan and dropped his head in his paws. "what did I do?"

Anyway. I'm thinking about how The Lonely's most well known avatars are literally a family and how family doesn't mean together and can be the most isolating thing that you push onto your kids when you have them and create a cycle of lonliness and I know that was probably the Point but I just got that and now I'm sad.

Comics I've Read pt 2
Okay let's jump in.
Future State: Gotham volume 1
Joshua Williamson and Dennis Culver
I am following every Robins story that is coming out right now and of course Jason is my favorite Robin so of course I'm going to like this series. Jason is working for the magistrate under the order of Bruce Wayne and he works with the new batman to find out what is really going on. It's a great little story and I'm so excited to read more. 5/5
Batman: Urban Legends #8
Assorted authors
I'd read these out of order but 8 has a few beginnings that make the stories easier to get into. I really loved Kate's story specifically but they were all great fun. 5/5
Batman: Urban Legends #9
Assorted authors
Bc I read these out of order, I was getting the beginning of stories that I'd already read the endings to in 10. I still had fun (and honestly I didn't notice that I didn't read the start) In 9 we see the end of the Outsider's story and Kate's and I loved those. Overall it was great fun. 5/5
Batman: Urban Legends #11
Assorted authors
I didn't like this one which usually I like every story and this one was just not it for me. 11 sets up the beginning of two six issue series and while there's a story there I feel like it's just a lot. Also it just leans into the fact that this issue in particular feels really sexist. We see Zatanna and Bruce have a connection previously unknown and they have to save the world from something they did as teenagers. Why does there have to be a romance? Even previously that feels weird. Why can't Zatanna have her own story? Why does the dog get a six issue series all about him but Zatanna has to be paired off with Bruce? (I know it's because it's a Batman anthology series but it's still gross) Eternity fridges a girl, she drowns in her bathtub. Why? What's the point? Wight Witch is literally just "she's connected to Bruce and also brutalized and brainwashed" The story about Ace is the best story but there's still like violence that I wouldn't like in my story about the fucking batdog. And these are just beginnings but not good ones, not ones that make me want to read more. I gave it a 2.25/5
Inferno volume 2
Valerio Schiti, Jonathan Hickman, and Stefano Caselli
Mystique gets Destiny back and automatically that would make this my favorite story, but also the way the story is told is just fun. The vote for the Quiet Council is specifically my favorite scene, just the way you see everyone's motivation and how everything plays out and how you got there it's so good. And not just that, how Mystique is one step ahead but Cypher is two steps ahead. It's very good. 5/5
Trial of Magneto volume 2
Leah Williams, Ryan Stegman
j I enjoyed a lot about this story but it wasn't perfect. Wanda is murdered and Magneto is suspected but was it really him? I do love how this story ends and what becomes of the world after. I do also love the way Wanda's relationship status to Magneto is resolved, but there are moments where characters are forgotten or only appear once for an emotional scene and then disappear for the rest of the story. I gave it a 4/5

Previously on My Updates
I am supposed to do these daily. At most I have fallen behind like a couple months. This previously on post is for 5/27/2021-1/19/2022. That's 237 days... that's almost two thirds of the year. AHHHHH.
Anywho, I'm just gonna give y'all the spark notes.
I wasn't updating because I wasn't writing. I did complete three works, but there was absolutely no consistency. The works were: Untether, Guardian, and For Them which are all posted here. I was busy with work and also had a shitty job that sucked so I didn't really have time to write plus Untether just took everything out of me. I was writing until the last possible second, and I haven't read it since I posted it. Probably needs some work. There are parts I love, scenes I love, but I haven't touched it in so long.
Guardian was just a short I wanted to post because it was the last Ekphrastic Writing Contest being held and that contest has done a lot for me so I wanted to write something, but December was really busy and I just didn't think about it until the last second. I do think my story is cute though. Most of the pieces I want to write are back catalogs for Contests I missed.
For Them is still a story I wrote close to the wire, but I gave myself a lot more room to breathe. It was very fun. It was for the Candlenights Exchange. I had a hard time coming up with a specific story but I figured it out.
I wanna get back into writing. I want to have fun with it again. That's like my main goal for 2022 is to write more consistently and I especially want to enjoy it.
I'm gonna do my Weekly Update on this too, just for funzies. I missed weeks 176 -this week 210. I have no goals for them as it's been months.
I don't think I've done a monthly post in a bit.
My Quarterly Goals also don't really mean anything right now. Again I missed 237 day which is seven almost eight months but also the last quarter I updated was Jan - Mar of 2021...
Yearly Goals are the only ones I can actually update.
~ clean more I feel like I was cleaning all the time. But probably not.

A couple things I've made lately
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what's pictured is half of a Ranchero sandwich with a little asparagus and a bowl of brown gray. The sandwich is roast beef and whole chili's with shreaded pepper jack on French bread. It's my favorite food besides steak and it's just really good.
Second is a bowl of ramen. It's just instant ramen cooked in chicken broth with a little soy sauce and mirin. I think those last two weren't good for the soup... But it's also got grated garlic and ginger which isn't fun to eat but it tastes nice. And a little green onions. Really yummy usually.
And third is midnight fried pickles. There was more but I ate on a paper plate. I mixed onion and garlic powder with lawrys seasoning salt, pepper, some Cajun seasoning and some paprika. I don't think I patted the pickles dry enough but they turned out pretty okay. A good midnight snack if not a messy one (though i did use less dishes than usual.
I don't quite know what to make next but I'm cooking steak tomorrow so... We have fun.

All the graphic novels I read while I was gone...
I forgot to put the intro to this post. Whoops. These are all the graphic novels I read between May and December I think. Including content warnings.
The Magic Fish by Trung Le Ngygen
This was a beautiful story. The art is fantastic, the way the colors emphasized the story. I read this a really long time ago and it still is just so beautiful and I definitely cried. The myths woven throughout the story is so nice. I'm crying right now and I don't remember that much about it. 50/5 stars
CW: Cannibalism (told in fairy tale), death, religious figure brought in to discourage LGBT youth, shame over sexual identity
Nubia: Real One by LL McKinney and Robyn Smith
PI do not like the DC Graphic Novel line. I think realistically they will be more detrimental than not, but Nubia was a really good introduction. After its release, DC did retcon Nubia's origin, but I loved this story all the same. I think it was cute and I couldn't ask for more. 5/5
CW: police brutality, racism, sexual harassment and gun violence
Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger and Sara Kiplin
This is the book that really started turning me against DC Graphic Novels. While the story isn't the worst, Pamela is treated weirdly by the story. Usually she becomes Poison Ivy in a lab, but here her father creates Poison Ivy. In the end there's no real resolution and also the romance only exists for this book. Pamela, to me, isn't represented in Poison Ivy: Thorns, which is a fault I find with most of DC's Graphic Novels. I wish they were true to the character. I gave it 4/5 originally but honestly I would give it a 3/5 now.
CW: bullying, sexual assault/harassment, abuse,
Fangs by Sarah Andersen
This was so cute. It's just a bunch of illustrations of a vampire and her werewolf boyfriend. It's so simple but so nice. 5/5
CW: blood, murder
Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Louise Simonson and Leigh Bardugo
This is my least favorite of the DC graphic novels. It's based off of the book by the same name which I will probably never read because I did not like this graphic novel that much. The original story came out a year after Diana was stated to be canonically bi, but this story goes out of its way to avoid naming Diana as bi but names everyone else queer. The romance is dumb, it didn't have to be there, it would have been fine if the betrayal just came from a friend but also in general, the story is impossible in any of Diana's main continuities. If you think you're getting a good jumping on point from this story, you're wrong. Also the best character in this book, Alia, will probably never see a comic and that's sad. She's great. If you wanted to read this book, do it for her. I gave it a 3/5 stars.
CW: betrayal, bombing, death, plane crash, possession, shipwreck, shootings, and sickness.
House of El: The Shadow Threat by Claudia Gray and Eric Zawadski
I think the best DC Graphic Novels are about characters you don't know, but also you won't know. The Shadow Threat follows two krytonian citizens who are working against Krypton because Krypton sucks. You'll probably never see these characters in the comics and that's a saving grace. You meet Superman's parents but they aren't front and center enough to ruin the story. It was just a fun time with no rage. 5/5
No CWs
Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle and Issac Goodhart
Again, when you know these characters, these graphic novels suck. This one was represented Selina and Bruce fairly well but the way the story was built around them wasn't good. Selina starts calling herself Catgirl, not as a secret identity, but as her name and it's very cringy, but in general the story feels unfinished. There are a lot of loose threads that just don't go anywhere or where they do go is another new beginning instead of an ending. It's just disappointing. 3/5
CW: child abuse, homelessness, animal abuse, cutting, homophobia, suicidal ideation, and violence. Also, there's a little vague cult stuff.
Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Sterle
I really liked Squad. It was a little too short for me. I definitely could've read more but just in regards to the main couple. I think overall the plot was really well paced. It was a fun read. I gave it 5/5.
CWs: murder, eating disorders, general gore, cannibalism, sexual assault, alcohol, racism, sexism, fatphobia, homophobia, toxic friendships, toxic relationships, vomit

Previously on Disaster
So this is my make up post for the past 237 days. I didn't update but I was reading. I did much better on this front than with writing so Yay!
Biggest update that is a continuation of my last one, I dropped Guards! Guards!. Not bc I didn't want to read it. I just wasn't in the right headspace and also it wasn't the book I was actually told to start with so.
Since the last time I've updated and reviewed books, I've read: The Magic Fish by Tung Le Ngygen, Batman: Urban Legends 1-7 and 10, The Desolation of Devil's Acre by Ransom Riggs, Fence volume 1-4 by CS Pacat, The Vision Omnibus by Tom King, Nubia: Real One by LL McKinney and Robyn Smith, Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger and Sara Kiplin, Fangs by Sarah Andersen, The Miraculous by Jess Redman, Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Louise Simonson and Leigh Bardugo, Doom Patrol Vol 1 and 2, House of El: The Shadow Threat by Claudia Gray and Eric Zawadski, Nightwing Vol 1, Harley Quinn Vol 1, Robin vol 1, The United States of Captain America vol 1, Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by Lauren Myracle and Issac Goodhart, Squad by Maggie Tokuda-Hall and Lisa Sterle, America Chavez: Made in the USA vol 1, and Batman: Year One. Roughly 30 books 👍😬 I'll make posts for them. Probably grouped.
My main goal for 2022 and reading is to read fifty books again. I still love reading even if it takes some time or it's few and far between. I should definitely get through most of my physical books because I keep buying them and then not reading them. So Yeah. Thanks for Reading.
NEW GOALS:
Daily: 1634 and 1635 20 Jan 2022 and 21 Jan 2022
~ read
~ unpack my books.

More Happy Than Not
by Adam Silvera
oof. That's the summary of my feelings for this book. It's so good but it is also so painful. I do think I liked this book more bc of the deluxe ending bc I don't think I would've been able to breathe if the original ending was the only ending I got. I cried for most of the book but it was very good and I wanted to keep reading. I gave it five stars. If you want to read this book please look up trigger warnings but other wise it's very good.

I was thinking about this the other night before I fell asleep and just. I hated the finale for a multitude of reasons, the queerbaiting being the biggest part but also Dean dies! He died with a whimper and Chuck didn’t. I know there was supposed to be a message in letting Chuck live but the fact of the matter is they put more care in Chuck’s ending than they did Dean’s. Dean who thought he was only worth the fight. Dean who deserved a family and a happy ending. Like screw the fact that they queerbaited the shit outta everyone and having Cas not be the love interest would’ve been hated but at least he would’ve been alive and had a family. Dean would’ve been a great father and I’m so fucking sad that Sam got that and Dean didn’t.

Artemis Fowl
by Eoin Colfer
So I remembered nothing about this book. I had been read it in middle school and I remember really liking it, but this time around most of it was really surprising. It’s so graphic for a children’s book. Like jeez man. I really loved the parts where Colfer made it clear that Artemis was still a child, even if he is the villain technically. I could’ve done without the blatant police brutality but um... I don’t think that was the point of those scenes. I gave it 4/5 stars.

Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident
By Eoin Colfer
I had a lot of fun with this book. Like the little details of Artemis doing kid things? It’s been a second since I’ve read this, but I do remember loving the details. Again, when Colfer treats Artemis as if he’s a child it is fantastic. It was a fantastic heist story I just really loved the adventure in this book. 5/5 stars.

What’s your favorite thing about writing your WIP(s)?
When I actually get somewhere. Really anywhere. In high school my final project for my creative writing glass what I believe the first 16 chapters of a story I was writing. I haven't written a concrete chapter since. So, when something clicks and it's nice (and also a distraction from like the amount of shows that hate their queer audience) it feels really rewarding. Writing my piece for the monthly writing prompt thing held by @tcstu was a joy and the fact that it was so queer and it won? Gosh I love that.
